my niche leviathan pet peeve is when fanfic writers say alek is an ex-prince because he renounced his claim to the throne and all his fathers titles but!! he was prince of hohenberg through his mother, and just like franz and sophie’s irl children he would hold that title his whole life, regardless of the collapse of the austrian monarchy as well

Those with royal blood can't go to war. They have generals for that. Prince Aleksander of Hohenberg has been forbidden to go to war. Women can't go to war. They are too soft, apparently. Deryn Sharp had been forbidden to go to war.

So of course Alek and Dylan meet up in a war camp and spend three years fighting side by side, each knowing the other has secrets. when the war was over, they go back to the capital and try to live their lives. they stay in contact with each other through letters.

that works of course until Alek needs a woman to be his bride before he can take the throne.

cannot stop thinking about my leviathan reread and noticing that the reason deryn doesn’t tell alek her secret later in the series isn’t because she thinks he’ll get mad at her for lying or look down on her for being a girl, but it’s because she had not a single doubt in her head he would fall in love with her

deryn being like, everything else he’ll get mad at me for but once that’s over he will fall in love with me i know that for FACT

to her the only reason that they have not become anything else is bc he thinks she’s a boy but once that’s no longer a problem he will fall in love but have to leave her because of her common background.

“the moment she could be anything more than a friend, she would be” is such an insane line to me, she knew exactly were she stood in his life and knew where their relationship would lead once he found out.

in conclusion: deryn is a girl boss who knows her worth
