Putting this here even though I’ll likely repost it later with some others but… look who got a redesign!
My old siren/pirate AU is currently undergoing some major revisions as I work out a different direction to take it in (as I no longer really want it to be an Alexmis story, I’m afraid)- the first up to get redesigned, however, was this bastard.
Notes:
- Dark sclera, tongue, flesh and blood. Not quite black, but close enough.
- Very long body, almost snake-like. Sirens never fully stop growing, much like reptiles- it just stagnates past a certain point.
- Teeth are akin to those of a shark’s- broad, even, and interlocking. They are strong enough to snap a bone in two without much effort.

Even as time would wear on, and Alex would lose interest in the tales of old, he could never quite bring himself to forget Ian’s quiet warnings- warnings to stay away from the water in the dead of the night, because you never really knew what might be lurking out there in the darkness.
The ocean was a wild thing.
Alex makes a friend.

Could we hear a bit about the alexmis pirate/siren au? Thanks so much!
Gladly! Since I’ve already gone over the generic information regarding the AU, I’m gonna list some other things regarding it that I didn’t get to explain before (I’ll put the original explanation here though)
- Artemis actually has a pretty convincing ‘human’ form- gotta love that selkie heritage! The only thing that marks him as a siren are his sharp teeth, slit pupils, and blue, freckle-like scales. He can technically maintain this form as long as he needs to, though past a certain point he will begin to sicken without access to water, and shifting between the two takes a lot of energy- if he’s injured, for example, he’s stuck in whatever form he was wounded in until he recovers.
- Alex suffers from a bit of bullying on the ship. Not everyone wants him there, as his age makes him a target for those who see him as just a useless kid to protect. He tries to keep his head down, though anyone who bothers him too much will often find they’re ‘cursed’ with bad luck- in reality, it’s just Artemis punishing them for hurting Alex.
- Artemis’s song is significantly weaker than his father’s, but that doesn’t mean it’s not dangerous- he can’t freeze someone in place the way Fowl Senior can, but his voice is still strong enough to lure people into the water- he just chooses not to, as he’s not a violent person.
- Alex fights with a calvary saber- Ian’s weapon, given to him after his uncle’s death. Artemis uses two daggers that were gifted to him by Alex- though, if he must use a sword, he’d use a rapier.
- Julius exists in this AU! He’s another siren, though a different kind- more akin to a harpy with shapeshifting abilities! According to Artemis, humans just miscatagorize anything that uses magical manipulation as a ‘siren’, even though it’s a fairly common form of magic among mythological creatures. He tries to fool Artemis at one point by taking the form of Alex, though he ultimately fails when, upon attacking Alex, he actually enrages Artemis enough that Artemis attacks + throws him into the sea and kills him (at least, he thinks).
- Mrs. Jones and Smithers are aware of Artemis’s presence on board, but don’t rat him out- Smithers out of wanting Alex to have a friend on board, and Mrs. Jones out of belief that Artemis may have a use in battle.
- Yassen is a selkie, though his seal form is that of a leopard seal- very, very dangerous. Unfortunately, Scorpia keeps his coat most of the time unless the mission calls for him swimming, so he’s stuck with them for the time being.

Alexmis pirate/ siren AU?? Yes!!
Please continue...
Gladly!
Okay, so, Alex was originally training to be a fisherman with his uncle in this little coastal town- but then tragedy strikes when his uncle is killed in a pirate raid. Next thing he knows, he’s recruited kidnapped by another crew, the same his uncle used to work with. They are led by Captain Alan Blunt, with Mrs. Jones being first mate, and Smithers being the Quartermaster.
Alex hates it. He’s being trained in cool stuff like combat, sure, but it’s clear no one on board cares that he was kidnapped from his home simply because his uncle was a ‘scourge’ on enemy pirates (except Smithers, who tries his best to look after Alex). In short, he is deeply unhappy, but cannot do anything now that he is on the ocean- they won’t even teach him navigation, for fear of him attempting to flee.
And then, he meets Artemis.
I’ve talked more about/drawn Artemis here, but in summary, he’s a young siren/selkie who lives off the coast with his family unit, consisting of the Fowls and Butlers. He’s fascinated by humans, but holds a healthy apprehension for them (humans and sirens do not get along)- this is exacerbated by his father, who destroys every ship + human that dares to enter the realm of his cliffside territory due to previous experiences.
One day, there’s a disturbance off their coast, and both Artemis and his father go to investigate. It turns out to be a ship, though not Alex’s- he’s been, unfortunately, taken hostage as usual- at some point, for some reason or another, Alex gets thrown over.
Fowl Senior tells Artemis to ‘leave it’, and swims off to complete his usual task of destroying any ships that enter his realm. But Artemis doesn’t really feel right letting someone drown, so he helps Alex make it back to shore while his father is too busy to notice. Thankfully, Blunt soon arrives to pick him up, and Alex has once again escaped by the skin of his teeth.
A couple of months later, Alex is given the chance to return the favor, when he finds Artemis locked up in the lower decks of an enemy ship. He’s not in the best shape, and very wary of Alex, but each does remember the other, and Alex frees him as quick as he can, since Blunt and Co. have already begun sinking the doomed vessel. Artemis swims off into the water, and Alex is sure that is the last time they’ll meet-
Except it isn’t. Shortly after he returns to his own ship, he goes belowdeck to find Artemis curled up amongst spare coils of rope and sailcloth. The siren confesses that he has no idea where he is, but it’s not his home- the water is colder and he doesn’t know the way back to the cliffs, but he doesn’t fancy his chances trying to swim back on his own. So he snuck inside while everyone was focused on treating injuries/putting out fires/loading stolen goods. Alex is reluctant to let him stay at first, since he doesn’t want to get in trouble and he doesn’t know what Blunt will do to Artemis if he finds him, but eventually agrees to help keep him hidden, sympathizing with this other boy ripped from his home by forces out of his control.
Artemis, to his credit, refuses to be a useless stowaway- once he adjusts to the cold water, he’s able to provide for himself fairly well, now that he has a place to roost at night. His injuries begin to heal, and he soon starts catching fish for Alex/teaching him to navigate too, in an effort to ‘make up’ for putting him at risk. Alex soon begins writing down the things Artemis tells him about sirens, their culture, and some of the other creatures that inhabit the oceans, such as selkies and merfolk and krakens, and Alex unknowingly begins correcting centuries of misinformation.
It’s not ideal circumstances for either of them, and they both miss their respective families fiercely, but it’s a little easier when there’s someone to share the weight with, and they quickly grow to be close friends.

Haven’t made much art this week, but here’s some concept art for an AF (and probably Alexmis) AU I’m playing around with!
It’s Siren Artemis!
(notes/lore/design stuff/etc):
- I use the term ‘siren’ loosely because technically Artemis is a siren/selkie hybrid! I read a fic once ft. Angeline as a selkie (it’s by @orangerosebush go check it out here)- the idea was fantastic and I wanted to incorporate that somehow? So his mother is a selkie and his father is a siren.
- Artemis primarily takes after his father in appearance, though there are a few minor differences- his sclera are normally white, for example, and unlike Fowl Senior’s striped pattern (resembling a tiger shark), Artemis inherited his mother’s mottled spots. He also can take a human guise, though it’s not as foolproof as his mother’s.
- However, Artemis does have a striped pattern under certain conditions- almost all sirens have some variety of glowing markings, like those of deep sea fish, that appear when it’s too dark to see. These help members of the group find each other in the darkness, and also aid in underwater communication.
- Artemis has a curious fascination with humans... their technology, specifically (he finds the creatures themselves to be rather stressful to be around). He often hovers around beaches or sifts through shipwrecks in order to find more information, This annoys his father to no end, as Fowl Senior has a particular hatred for humanity- he’s the reason for local legends of a sea monster sinking the ships that travel through the narrow patch of cliffside the Fowls + Butlers call home.
- Artemis did inherit the sirens’ song from his father, though it’s magic is weak from lack of use. It’s remarkably similar to the mesmer, actually.

What The Water Gave Me
(Siren Alexmis AU)
Artemis is a young siren/selkie living off the coast of a seaside town, along the cliffs. He is incredibly curious about humanity, despite the fact that he has been told that sirens and humans are natural enemies and should stay far apart. As a result, he uses his ability to take a human form (as all sirens and selkies can) to explore when his father isn’t looking.
Fowl Sr. is a cruel, ruthless siren who is known in the area to destroy any ship or human that dares to enter his lands. He is a poor parent to Artemis, but insanely controlling, with a grudge against humanity due to his own history. As a result, he and Artemis do not get along well.
One day, Artemis meets Alex, a brave-hearted and adventurous boy from town. The two immediately befriend the other, with each curious about their new friend’s world. At first, Alex doesn’t realize that Artemis is a siren- years later, however, when he is rescued by a mysterious creature from the sea, and finding his friend washed up on the beach with the scales of a fish, the pieces fall into place.
However, both are quickly forced into action when Fowl Sr. takes note of Alex and decides that he needs to be ‘dealt with’. With Alex deciding to take to the ocean alongside his uncles, Ian and Yassen, he begs Artemis to come with him and see the world beyond the cliffs- and to learn to be something better than the next leviathan haunting the waters. Artemis, conflicted, nevertheless agrees. They set out across the waves together.
Along the way, they encounter both friend and enemy alike- Artemis’s childhood friends back on land, Holly and Foaly, as well as the dangerous corsair captain, Spiro (with his own grudge against sirenkind) and the terrifying fairy witch, Opal.
There is drama! And angst! And adventure! And much sappy, sappy pining between these two lovestruck fools!

Hi there! First off, I want to say that your art+writing styles are spectacular, thank you for making my day so much better with everything you create :) I'm particularly intrigued by your alexmis Siren AU- I was wondering, would that au ever include the twins, or would they not exist because (presumably) Artemis never disappeared? Make sure to drink water + prioritize your mental health, stay safe fellow human :)
Yep! The twins already exist, actually!
By the end of ‘what the water gave me’ Artemis and Alex are roughly 16-ish? So it’s actually past the point where the twins would have appeared in canon anyways!
But yes, Myles and Beckett are around- they just stay in the Fowls’ ‘lair’ (a massive underwater cave + gap in the cliffs) for right now, since they’re very young. Artemis loves them dearly, even if they can be quite the handful sometimes.
Thank you for all of your kind words, btw! Make sure you drink some water yourself, and I hope you’re having a great day!
