ok but it's so homophobic that of all the champions' powers, revali's is the only one that when you use it, he doesn't say anything. like mipha says "it is my pleasure," daruk and urbosa both make like a "ha!" sound, but revali literally says nothing 🙁
i opened up the game just to prove you wrong because revali actually says "hmph!" when his gale is activated 🤓🤓🤓🤓 SO. KJDHFKJSDF
but you're technically right that revali actually doesn't say any actual words, so i'd either attribute it to his pride or his gay panic. the pretty boy you were in love with back then and is also your sworn rival with whom you have an emotionally intimate but complicated relationship with calls upon your help and they expect you to SPEAK? nawww but revali has too many things he'd want to say and none of it would fit within the few seconds he has with link when his gale is called upon. i also imagine that if the gale was something that revali was barely able to perform consistently when he and link met, maybe activating the gale still takes a lot of effort on revali? especially because he has to produce enough wind to carry link, a heavy hylian in comparison to the hollow-boned rito, skywards, thus no words when he's called upon because he's too busy concentrating. but he's also dead so maybe it's not difficult and revali himself is just being a difficult shithead.
imagine link bringing it up when he visits revali's ghost on medoh again and he's like Mipha always says it's her pleasure how come you never say anything like that to me 🙁 and revali's just like. You called up on my gale to get onto someone's roof. What the hell would be pleasurable about that.

Hi it's slate anon your surnames post/the replies had me cackling and i love the idea of revali having a very Rito-sounding last name. on a more angsty note I do like to imagine he would pick his own last name (as per your orphaned hc for him) for one related to flight/archery. Writing his own destiny or something
For Hylians maybe because of Rhoam I imagine their names are just (Chosen name) (Middle name only royals can afford) (Place of birth). The royal family gets the surname Hyrule because they're meant to represent all of Hyrule and it's hard to convince the kingdom you serve them all equally if your name is literally Tabantha
So Links government name is Link Hateno. And with Hateno being a major settlement and Link being by far the most common name (as the name of the biggest cultural figure that's not sacred (ie hylia) or for royals (zelda)) he has the most basic combination of names ever it's laughable. there were 4 other Link Hatenos in his division only. If Revali writes a letter to his Link Hateno in the royal guard he gets a request back from the post office like "specify address rank and date of birth please". Being named Link he naturally had a number of nicknames but after he pulled the sword he just became Link. THE Link. But you already know who's taking whose last name in the marriage anyway
And good luck with your exam!🫡
(referencing this post)
HI SLATE ANON!!! 🫶🫶 thank you for the luck, i hope it rings true when i get my exam back 😭 come here and say hi @cryiling @iridescentgleam my anon thinks u guys are funny 😽
revali choosing his own last name because he was orphaned makes me so sad 😭💔 what if there's a rito traditional ritual where the family name is like. "given" to the child to formally recognize them as part of the family in a spiritual sense (connecting the child to all their spiritual ancestors of generations past). and revali's parents were killed before they could give revali their family name so he doesn't have one 😭 even though the other rito are allowed to tell revali what his family name would have been, he's not allowed to claim it as his last name because it wasn't given traditionally to him through the ritual and thus can't be "his" last name anymore and it ostracizes him even more from the rest of the kids. imagine getting bullied because you don't have a last name 😭
idk like the rito seem like a people of tradition, spirituality, and familial bonds like family is everything to them, therefore the concept of a family name is an extremely important identifying marker of each rito and where they come from. choosing your own last name isn't something that's common among the rito at all, because choosing a different last name than the one that was given to you as a child signifies that you have disinherited and detached yourself from your family. even people whose families have already passed don't just change their last names like that, because it would mean that their family spiritually would not have anymore descendents after that point.
in revali's case, his family is dead and he also wasn't given a last name so technically there's nothing wrong with him choosing his own last name, but the rito would have still been weird about it. when revali is chosen as a champion, he finally decides to choose his own last name and he chooses one that essentially means "one who perseveres." i'm spitballing a little here but maybe in rito script, it's basically like. a stylized way of writing the word "arrow." archery and the usage of arrows are important symbols of rito culture, because they're weapons and tools they use to hunt and protect themselves. they represent the rito's actual lives because of this and so became a symbol of vitality and perseverance. so in a sense, revali knows if he knocks his bow and his arrow always flies true, he will always persevere and make it out of a tough situation.
i like your idea about the hylian naming scheme! rhoam really is the only character in botw that has a proper full name, but since he's rich and royal he's not really hashtag Relatable ✋😒 it is pretty much the same naming scheme of the king in wind waker, king daphnes nohansen hyrule and i just found this reddit thread that gives possible etymological explanations for both daphnes and rhoam's names (daphnes = "person who was turned into a wooden boat of hyrule" and rhoam = "roaming shepherd of hyrule"), but i wonder what the narrative reasons they were named as such were. like are bosphoramus and nohansen the names of older family members or ancestors? do they have inherently royal meanings to them?
LINK BEING A COMMON NAME JUST GETS ME like you're absolutely right, of course everyone is naming their kid after a legendary hero in hopes that their kid will be Thee Link of the century but idk it's just so funny to me 😹😹😹 like "four other Link Hatenos in his division" YOU DKJFHDJKFHDHFKD link was NOT special until that fucking sword this fits in perfectly with his vibe of just being Some Guy.
ok but consider that rito don't really understand the idea of taking their spouse's last name when marrying because they have such a complex understanding of family names, spirituality, and their ancestors, so link trying to explain to revali that he wants to take revali's last name when they marry and revali is like ...? what the fuck are you talking about
link being like, "i wanna be a family with you 🥺" and revali being like "but what about your family???? you would abandon them so easily???" and link is just like. revali my family has been dead for a hundred years and my last name is literally hateno. DKFJDHJFKJD

all im saying is that since the paraglider is in totk with an updated revali's logo, revali should also be in totk (preferably alive this time) ✋
Tumblr media Tumblr media
idk if i would say it's truly an updated "revali's logo" ykwim because now it has four feathers on each wing instead of three :o but i'm very interested to see what the narrative reason for why link's paraglider was updated and if there will be an explanation as to why he has one in the first place.
imo as someone with so much revalink brainrot, regardless of whether or not link regained memories of his past life, he probably recognized that the paraglider had some significant sentimental value to him back then, and hopefully recognized that it must have belonged to revali previously as per revali's symbol on his main landing in rito village and flight range landing. maybe then he realized that he needed to maintain it to, at the very least, honor revali's memory, even if it seemed that revali didn't like him very much. after all, revali was a great warrior revered by his people, one who sacrificed his life in an attempt to save hyrule, and someone who must have mattered to link if the paraglider fatefully fell in his hands. he feels a great need to maintain it and be respectful of one of the remainders of revali's legacy. but give me back the botw paraglider design, it's charming and it's definitely revali!
now. this might be an unpopular opinion but it's one that i stand staunchly by because i talked about it a bit in this post. to be honest, i want to see the champions revived in totk. i'm sure plenty of you would disagree and play the card that the death of the champions was meant to teach link about loss, despair, the effects of war, sacrifice, and all those morals etc. but imo, the problem with teaching link those lessons is that it doesn't feel like much was lost in the first place. maybe this is a personal perception of botw on my end, but to me, there weren't enough of the champions' presence in botw to warrant this idea that it taught link about loss. if you were to go by the idea that link retained all his previous memories, then sure, but it doesn't work if you go the route where he doesn't and everything in the past is just flickers of memories he can't ever really recall. how can you tell a story about grief and loss and sacrifice if your main character, and by extension, your players who are connected to the story via that main character, can't feel a profound enough loss of those characters to understand the moral of the story? the presence of the champions in botw only made me want to see more of them because it felt like their time in the little sliver of spotlight they got was too short. and you could include age of calamity! but that's a non-canon prequel so it can't even really count 😭 i haven't played the champions' ballad dlc, so maybe there could be a change of mind if i did but why would you put a paywall if you want to teach a solid story about loss and sacrifice? what a shit way to tell a story 🥸
but i digress. yeah i do want revali and the rest of the champions back in totk, for all types of shenanigans and interactions. give them back to me nintendo ☝️😐

y'all are gonna laugh at me for this one but i do think link takes food safety very seriously. he's all about that Wash your hands before you touch the food, clean and sterilize your cooking utensils, etc. link would be the gordon ramsey of botw, idc.
the reason i think so is because imo link really does love cooking and enjoys the experience of eating good food, he cherishes it very much and it's like a sacred ritual to him. he canonically can't resist a good meal according to zelda's diary and gets very excited in-game when a meal or elixir gets a buff. link loves food fr.
i def think that link was still a really good cook pre-calamity, so when he wakes up post-calamity he just has like. instincts that kick in when he stands over a cooking pot and it's kind of like relearning his knowledge of cooking. so of course he'll still have plenty of mishaps; he's had his fair share of dubious food, alright, and he's eaten a lot of weird shit from and on a lot of weird places, and that's why he values food safety so much. he's experienced firsthand what getting food poisoning is like, or what happens when you try to cut open raw prime meat with a knife that's still wet with monster gut juice. link's been through it all and he did not have the best time doing all of it! so for link, in order to have the best experience enjoying good food, you have to make it right and do it with the right tools, in a clean sterile and safe environment.
he for sure wears a little apron in the kitchen and will yell at revali to wash his hands. "i don't need to wash my hands, i'm covered in feathers." "yes you fucking do, your feathers can still get shit on them." "are you insinuating i don't keep myself clean?" "yes now go wash your fucking hands." cue bickering that leads to link spoonfeeding revali because revali refuses to "wash his hands."

do you guys ever think about how the hebra region is literally hanging off of hyrule by a thread
Tumblr media
like what if we just sliced off those two bits of land at the ends of the tanagar canyon like it was a piece of cake. that would be so crazy. and also the fact that the entirety of hyrule is also geographically isolated by another huge canyon, the implication that there is far more land beyond the canyon is so insane to me. the world of botw could be so much bigger were it not for the limitations of technology.

Finally! Someone who thinks it wouldn't be a narrative mistake to bring back the champions!!
I've always seen people say that bringing them back takes away from the tragedy of their deaths, but we never got to know them enough for that to feel like a proper tragedy.
Like, they gave us one of the coolest concepts for a Zelda game story wise (Link having an actual team who are supposed to fight alongside him against Ganon instad of just people helping him along the way) and they kill them off before the game starts???
Bringing them back not only helps us to know them better but can actually improve on the tragedy thing. All of the champions have been dead for 100 years, a lot of stuff has changed and seeing their reactions to that change would be more interesting than them staying dead.
welcome to the party anon!!! i'm just selfish and i want the champions back!!!
honestly, the way the champions' presence was handled in botw in itself is a narrative mistake lol. if the point was teach link about loss and sacrifice, nintendo sure did a great job of showcasing that by. giving us absolutely nothing about the champions' importance in their respective societies. /s
ok that's a lie, i think they showed that profound impact of loss and sacrifice at least somewhat well with mipha and the zoras actually. since the zora live a long time, plenty of them are still alive from the time of the calamity such as muzu, who still held a lot of resentment and blame towards link for mipha's death, or sidon, who is always looking at mipha's statue when you interact with him at the zora's domain. the cutscene after you defeat waterblight, talk to mipha's spirit, and then position ruta to point at the castle has got to be one of the most heart-wrenching moments in the entire game. LIKE HELLOOOOO THIS PART RIGHT HERE MAKES ME FUCKING BAWL MY EYES OUT 😭😭😭 so even though we only get to know mipha for a short period of time, we could at least see and feel the effect of her death in her people and how she felt the effect her death on her people. this is a good example of portraying loss and sacrifice, for me at least.
but i can't say the same for the other champions, they don't seem to be as wrecked about their champion as the zora do. and that probably has to do with the fact that the other races don't live as long as the zora, so unlike them, the characters of other races that you interact with weren't there when their champions died. girl like kaneli probably wasn't even born yet when revali got his ass kicked ☝️😒 so for the other races of hyrule, all they get are legends and stories of these really cool people who died a hundred years prior. i know you guys aren't crying ur asses off everyday about errrr.. president theodore roosevelt dying a hundred years ago! you didn't know him like that, get out of your parasocial relationship with him!!! so in that regard, i understand the way that nintendo chose to handle the relationship between the other champions and the descendents of their people.
but ur so incredibly true for that anon. the zelda team chose to break so many traditional conventions in botw, and the addition of a group of chosen champions to pilot these technological marvels of mechanisms to fight an evil so intense that the hero actually needs that assistance for even a sliver of success has so much potential. i wish we got to know the champions of 10,000 years ago and the champions of 100 years ago. if i really got to know and love them, i would probably understand what it would be like to lose them and feel it.

y'all ever think about how many rito names have "—li" at the end? revali. kaneli. amali. genli. bedoli. medli. komali. i mean even saki's name at least ends in an "—i" and tulin has a "li" in there as well.

some of my thoughts on link, zelda, and the champions
this post actually started off with me trying to answer the last part of this anon's ask, and then it spiraled into something else, so i'm going to have to make another post about the actual idea 😭 for now, you can have this long-ass fucking thinkpiece i typed up because i love the champions dearly and i wanted a much larger presence from them as i played botw. this post is really long so if you want to read it, please sit down and have a snack while you read.
so the last part of anon's original ask was about the champions singing together and the idea of a found family—
anonymous asked:
Also: imagine all champions, Link and Zelda hanging out on one of the Divine Beasts and singing a song together (i am very weak to champions being a found family)
like you're so #real for this anon. i honestly do hope we get more champions content in TOTK because nintendo completely missed on not expanding on a found family dynamic between link, zelda, and the champions. sure there's the champion's ballad DLC and age of calamity (i haven't played either of these. sorry. i will soon!), but that's not.. they're still dead in the DLC and AoC isn't considered canon i think it's more of an alternative timeline? so that doesn't really count.
me personally i think daruk and urbosa are very mother and father, and they probably were if riju and yunobo are their direct descendants (which is a whole other rabbit hole in itself; urbosa and daruk died most likely leaving little children and spouses behind ㅠㅠ). and maybe that is the point; daruk is the rock (because he's a goron lol) that keeps the family together and in the botw memories is seen to be taking initiative to lead and tell the other champions to get to their divine beasts when the calamity awakens. he’s steadfast and encouraging and jovial and that’s very father of him! as for urbosa, she straight up mothers zelda and link in-game, she's basically zelda's maternal figure after zelda's mom dies. she's not a stepmom, she's the mother that stepped up 💪❤️
mipha bears the Eldest Daughter Curse™ and revali is the moody teenager who’s Not going through a phase, it’s a LIFESTYLE MOM!!!1!1!1!1 and imo link and zelda kinda give goofy twin siblings (imagine like the pine twins) vibes to me
i like the headcanon that link had a younger sister pre-calamity, but i’d like to add my own twist to that. assuming that link used to live in hateno village, what if link's parents split after the birth of his younger sister, with his father taking link and moving closer to hyrule castle to fulfill his duty as a knight, and his mother not wanting to get involved with the war against the calamity and taking his sister to stay in hateno? link must have been really young at the time and barely remembers being able to play with his little sister :( so even if he had a sibling, he was basically raised alone for most of his life. and if his father was a knight of hyrule, i doubt that he could have been the most present father to link either... with zelda's mother dying when she was young and her father being a complete dick, that makes both link and zelda the "only child" kids that were raised in less than desirable familial conditions. and so, i think link and zelda would have their own difficulties integrating into this found family dynamic with the champions.
now i'm not an only child (i have demons for siblings tbh), but i think both link and zelda are very independent people who feel like they can only rely and trust themselves with the way they've been raised. it takes a lot for both of them to learn to be vulnerable and trust others, and they're very much not used to the mismatched deck of personalities they have to deal with within the champions, that being jolly father daruk, very cutthroat mother urbosa, sweet and soft-spoken mipha, and dickhead ass bitch bird revali. how can they navigate through these relationships with their lonely childhoods swept up in prophecies of old? it's much easier than you think and it has to do with anon's idea: strengthening rapport with each other by singing together atop a divine beast >:]
ok i'm joking, i think that's more the apex of the roadmap to becoming a found family, but it's a very cute idea 🥺 after link and zelda are finally cool with each other, there are so many opportunities for each of them to bond with the other champions individually. there's of course zelda falling asleep on mama urbosa in vah naboris, link and daruk have their father-son bonding time by daruk protecting link from getting smashed to a pulp by volcanic boulders, etc etc, but what about mipha taking zelda to all the monuments that detail zora history throughout the domain so that zelda can study them? what about revali teaching link how to use the paraglider so that he can actually hit targets at the flight range and get a chance to finally settle the score between him and link? i actually like that idea a lot, because then we could get an explanation as to why the paraglider even exists in the botw universe (revalink for the win ehehe). nintendo, my dear friend, there could be so much more to this world that you've introduced to us.
on one hand, of course botw is narratively focused on link and zelda and calamity ganon, and mechanically about the open-world map, shrines/divine beasts, etc, that break free from traditional zelda conventions. but it leaves the champions to only be side characters that, though they played critical roles in handling the divine beasts, are nothing more than ghostly figures with a handful of one-dimensional character traits that only create a further disconnect between the current world of hyrule vs. its pre-calamity past. which is why we get champion's ballad and age of calamity, which both somewhat expands on the champions as characters, but never more than giving them a few more traits and interactions that, to me personally, feel empty and inadequate. i want to have these intimate interactions with the champions as characters in the botw map, ones that i can walk up to chat with as though they were sidon or beedle or a random npc traveler. i want to feel close to the champions, and nintendo, though with weak attempts, doesn't give me that.
Tumblr media
the picture that purah takes of the champions is so important to me. this right here is peak found family, a group of the most mismatched individuals that somehow meld perfectly together and balance each other out, and we only receive it through the DLC. that's so stupid. sorry nintendo, i want more than three minute long memories of a singular moment in a past life, i want more than npcs telling me who i used to be. i want king dorephan to tell us about the time zelda fell off of a waterfall and mipha immediately jumped after her to save her clumsy ass. i want to look through historical records of the gerudo and find one about urbosa launching daruk at the mouth of a molduking and daruk chewing her out for it later. i want elder kaneli gossip with me about an old rumor about how revali and the hylian champion of the past used to be found asleep together on the floor of the flight range's hut after a long night of training. i want the world of botw to give me signs and stories about how close the champions were with each other and to make my heart ache, to wish desperately to have known them, instead of like, 20 memories that only serve the plot, or honestly don't at all. but i digress!
i know for some people, the presence of the champions were meant to teach link about tragedy and loss and the effect of war and ruin and evil and cherishing your loved ones or whatever, but i simply did not get that message. that was not what i perceived the champions to be, because to me, the game lacked showing the relationships link and zelda had with the champions. like okay, you died and you also happened to know me. what if link doesn't really remember them at all? then what?
you receive twenty or so memories about the champions when including the DLC, and yes i do concede it gives us some more insight about their characters, but it doesn't do much more than that. the cutscene where mipha moves vah ruta to ready its lasers at the castle, where she wishes to see her father and sidon one more time, especially is an excellent example of emphasizing their significance to the people around them, to us as players and spectators to this hyrule... i want more of that.
i could be wrong about some of the stuff i've said, so disclaimer again that i haven't played the DLC or age of calamity, and maybe you do feel closer to the champions when you play those games! fanmade fic and art and headcanons have been really great ways of helping me view them in a multi-dimensional way, but going off the game's content itself, the champions feel like hollow spectres of people we never truly remember or get to know. maybe that's what they're supposed to feel like, but i don't want to feel that way about them. i'm too attached to them now, and i want to get to know them! curse you nintendo!!!

Link is peak older brother energy I feel that is essential to his character. But the odd thing is that he's equally likely to be evil to his sister or the Perfect Role Model (he seems to be good with kids in botw too) and I think that entirely depends on how big the age gap between him and his sister is (bc link probably matured way too fast after he pulled the sword, not that he had no morals before but any mischievousness disappeared after that)
But either way can you imagine being links sister whether you're close or not like😭 And your brother is literally the divinely chosen champion of your nation. how do you live up to that i know those family dinners were tense. Links dad is out here like so proud of my son who just bested a swordsman many years his senior to become the sovereign royal princess' head chosen guard. and also my daughter for getting a C+ in her sheikah basic history exam. 🙂
What do you think revalis family situation is like. Because I have no clue but I know that guy must have Issues
anon i'm so sorry it took so long to answer this but i've been excited about this question since i saw it in my inbox. the "my daughter getting a c+ in sheikah history" bit had me rolling like here's my kid who is prophesied to save the world vs. my kid who gets into fights with cuccos. giving very much gay son or thot daughter
you're absolutely correct that link is very much Older Brother, but because pulling the master sword made him mature too fast and bear the burdens of the world as its adolescent savior, he's an Eldest Daughter by default (more under the keep-reading because i failed again in making this short)
i honestly like both ideas of link's little sister either adoring him and looking up to him like a role model, or despising him and spitting at him every time they saw each other, but it would depend a lot on whether or not link's parents splitting was amicable or not. my original headcanon kind of implied that after link's parents split, they never saw each other ever again because link and his dad were at hyrule castle and link's mother and sister stayed in hateno, but it would be cool if link's parents shared custody and had each kid go travel to see their other parent and sibling lol. i think that link would definitely write letters to his mother and sister, even if they resented him.
from here i'm just gonna refer to link's little sister as aryll until i solidify her character (i'm stuck between two names for her right now) and because it's just easier LOL but the idea of aryll being like a teeny baby 5-6 years younger than link who thinks her big brother is so cool and wants to become a knight just like him, carrying around fake wooden swords with her, wearing an oversized soldier's helm, and telling her mother like "i'll protect you, mama!" is so cute. vs. aryll being a year or two younger and resenting link for being better at everything than her and how no one seems to acknowledge her accomplishments when link's cast a tall shadow over hers. aryll, who does everything to prove that she's just as good of a fighter as her brother is, but her father still brushes her aside for link.
i think the reaction that either version of aryll would have if link slowly went quiet and stopped sending letters or coming to see her after pulling the master sword would be devastating. for teeny baby adoring aryll, she would wonder why link hasn't sent any letters recently and rationalizes it as being busy with being the champion now. as time goes by, link doesn't send any more letters at all and he doesn't ever visit despite there being sightings of the hylian champion everywhere but the necluda region and aryll would slowly become heartbroken and distraught that her big brother isn't talking to her anymore, that he seems to have forgotten about her.
but for resentful aryll, it further proves that link never cared about her and her mother at all and that all he cares about is prestige and status and fulfilling his stupid destiny as the wielder of the sword that seals the darkness (she rereads link's old letters in the middle of the night with nothing but a tiny flame, and cries silently wondering if things would be different if their parents never split or if link was never chosen as a champion).
sorry i made it sad LMAO but yes it would be funny if they still had family dinners with their father being like "today, link bested five men in hand-to-hand combat all at once, fought off ten monster hordes alone, and deflected a guardian beam with a pot lid saving someone's life! how did your day fare, aryll?" and aryll is just like. i fell off my horse shooting 20 bullseyes during practice. their father is just like Hm. That's nice. Your brother can do 50 while standing on Epona's back. cue aryll staring murderously at link, meanwhile link does not give a single shit about this conversation, he's busy shoving his face full of the food that aryll cooked because aryll is a good cook :)
it's would be such a funny perspective, aryll plotting to murder link in his sleep vs. link who is oblivious to aryll's resentment and still thinks that's his little sister who fights well and cooks a great meal. now i'm thinking about link and aryll who used to cook dinners together and learned how to cook from their mother... :(
now revali, my poor dear sweet revali... i've seen a couple fics here and there that mention revali's family situation, but i personally am in favor of the idea that revali was either abandoned or orphaned as a fledgling, and was raised by the elder and the whole of rito village in general. since nintendo gives us no indication of revali's family but implies that revali is around the same age as link, zelda, and mipha as per urbosa's diary, there's a lot of potential and flexibility with this idea.
if revali was abandoned, i think the rito would shun his parents because i like the idea that family and bonds are very important in their culture, and what kind of parents would abandon their baby like that? who even knows why revali's parents would do that but i think there are still no indications of revali's family in age of calamity, so perhaps they fled the village when revali was born and abandoned his egg in the nest. fuck them fr! this could be a good explanation for his motivation as to why he pushes himself so hard to be better as per the DLC champion revali's song memory. his parents didn't want him enough to keep him and even fled the entire village so that they wouldn't be held responsible to care for him anymore, and that stings. it would be a deep-seated insecurity for revali, a sense of betrayal, loss, and desperation to be loved, to be wanted by someone. so he trains to be better, he pushes himself until he collapses, because if his parents didn't want him as he was, then maybe no one else will.
now if revali was orphaned, i would assume that both his parents were revered, formidable warriors who died in battle but most importantly, that they did love and want revali. revali might have already been hatched at this time and present at his parents' funerals, which is actually the saddest thing ever. a tiny orphaned little hatchling who being the one to send his parents off, to honor them for dying a warrior's death. it might be a good origin story and another really good motivation behind revali's character, why he pushes himself so hard to be better. do you think baby revali thought it was his fault that his parents died in battle, that he wasn't strong enough to protect them and that's why he needs to be the strongest warrior there ever was among the rito to make sure he can protect the people he cares and loves for the most? now imagine this version of revali cradling a dying link in his arms lmao
both are good backgrounds for revali but i think at the moment i'm leaning towards the orphaned storyline. it's only thing to be unloved and unwanted, but to know you were loved and wanted but to lose those people so soon is incredibly tragic. to know those people for a short window of time and lose them so soon must tear revali apart everyday. do you think he sits alone in the flight range in the quiet of the night after hours of training, trying desperately to remember his father and mother's faces, how they must have felt to see their son hatch, how they thought they would return home safely to him that day? he's loved and respected by the village and the elder treats him as their own, but it's not the same as knowing you had a mother and father who wanted you as their own too. he's honestly also the village's biggest tragedy. i'm imagining him as a fledgling, fresh out of the funeral, walking past some rito mothers cooking meals for their kids or some shit, openly talking about how tragic it was to lose some of their best warriors and to leave behind a son in their wake. it's too much for baby revali and he runs down the platforms of rito village and hides in a tree in one of the island spires connecting the village to the mainland, crying his eyes out.
my poor blorbo revali, please treat him and link kindly everyone. they're always going through some shit whether it's family trauma or their weird gay courting 😔

consider: a drawing of corrupted revali covered in malice eyes with a haunted dead look on his face with the caption "biblically accurate revali"
i wish i could copy-paste the image in my head onto paper or some sort of drawing software because ugh. i love the concept of corrupted champions SO MUCH. the blights r cool or whatever but it would have been so much cooler if (1) we were given more opportunities to become more attached to the champions in-game and then (2) we fought a corrupted version of the champions instead of just the blights so that the entire boss fights would be 10x more heartbreaking. nintendo should have me on their team fr
are you going to draw this because i would love to see it ☝️😃 revali emerging from the main terminal only to reveal himself in his malice-corrupted state. revali's malice eyes all train themselves to look at link once he fully emerges and link shudders in fear, ready to throw up because it's honestly just horrifying to look at
and also @john---baptist get in here the #1 corrupted champions au enthusiast

my favorite part about the hebra region is how a lot of the names are based off of types of birds, because of the presence of the rito there. dronoc's pass = condor. lake kilsie = silkie chickens. sturnida hot spring = sturnidae, starling birds. tickles me pink or something like that.

OKAY I FINALLY GOT TO WATCH THE TOTK TRAILER HERE ARE SOME OF MY THOUGHTS
the more stuff that comes out about totk, the more interested and emotionally invested i become in the lore. where did these floating islands come from? who were the zonai and why are they back? do they have some sort of connection to ganon or hylia, or other races in hyrule (e.g. the sheikah)? how does the presence and existence of the zonai connect back with the rest of the zelda timeline?
like since there's at least? 10,000 years since the previous links and zeldas to botw/totk link and zelda, did the zonai exist in that 10,000 time period or way before and they were just never seen in previous games (for narrative purposes?)
do you think the presence of the zonai will give us some insight to the hero and princess of 10,000 years prior when the divine beasts were first used against ganon + all the ancient sheikah technology was still used? do you think the zonai had some sort of hand in helping shape that tech?
i know that during the development of botw, some of the things that inspired some of link's "abilities" were from hobbies of people on the zelda development team, e.g. the master cycle zero exists in the dlc because eiji aonuma is a motorcyclist in his free time. do you think someone on the team skydives for fun and that's why they added link falling through the sky and shit lol
they NEVER explained the paraglider in botw. you know me as your local revalink brainrot provider and what i think about the existence of the paraglider if you've been following me long enough. since the paraglider gets a little design update in totk (and unfortunately kind of loses revali's symbol in it
what the HELL are these glowing spires coming out of the ground everywhere. will they function the same as sheikah towers. what the fuck happened to the sheikah towers bc i'm either blind or they're gone. do shrines still exist in this game
hateno village (and other settlements) seems to have gotten updated! what new things do you guys think will be added in villages that weren't there before? also idk if it's just me but why do the three trees on mount lanayru look closer to the village??? i don't remember them being that close idk lol
DO YOU THINK WE'LL GET NEW NPCS IN THE SETTLEMENTS <33
THERE ARE LITTLE CAMPS IN CASTLE TOWN RUINS IM GOING TO CRYYYY they have the hylian crest on them so they have to be related to the royal family (in a business way) somehow? are these the construction folk who are going to rebuild castle town? do you guys think we'll get to see castle town completely rebuilt by the end of totk? DO YOU THINK WE'LL GET TO REBUILD EVERY RUINED SETTLEMENT TARREY TOWN STYLE??????? <3333
i know some people hated the fact that the botw map was reused and imo it's Nawt that serious girl calm down lmao. in fact i think reusing the map is an excellent challenge for the zelda team; how can you rework this familiar world into a fresh one the players can enjoy and explore again? with all the literal changes in the geographical markers of botw and the addition of new little thingie ma bobbies all throughout the map, i'm excited to see how the zelda team has approached this sort of challenge by reusing botw assets
THE THYPHLO RUINS AREN'T DARK ANYMOREEEE tbh i never finished that shrine quest LMFAOKDJFHJKD the not being able to see part always stressed me out and the fact that you had to fight a hinox in the dark 😭😭😭 IM SAWRYYY IM THE MOST ANXIOUS PLAYER EVER but i can't wait to explore it in the light????? i think someone mentioned how it also had zonai architecture; i'm just so invested in how the presence of the zonai shaped the now-world of botw/totk hyrule
so i wasn't able to see it in the trailers because i'm sooo blind, but did you guys ever see the divine beasts at all in the clips? i mean i wouldn't want to do a divine beast dungeon again LOL, but where do you guys think they are? are they just chilling in their respective regions? did they bury the beasts again? do you think we'd be able to actually go inside and explore the beasts for funsies now that they're not corrupted/in position lasered onto the castle?
WHAT IS OUT IN THE GERUDO DESERT. INSERT CARDI B MEME WHAT WAS THAT????? IS IT A SECRET DIVINE BEAST. FUCK. WHAT IS IT
the zonai have got to have some connection to time i know we could probably figure that out from the totk gameplay video from a couple weeks ago BUT STILL. let's have a twilight princess ancient hero comeback and just have old man ocarina bones sit in, or maybe multiple previous links spiderman no way home-style or whatever that movie was called. i didn't watch it sorry KDJHFJDK
ZELDA FALLING IN AND LINK JUMPING IN AFTER HER WITH HIS MALICE CORRUPTED ARM 😭💔 WHEN WILL MY BABIES BE FREE FROM THEIR FATES
THERE ARE FLYING PIRATE SHIPS TEEHEE. COME ON TREASURE PLANETTTTTT link but he's jim hawkins asf
water bubbles as transport like come on vesicles. come on transport cells. ANYWAYS THE LASERS link is a spy girl fr come on kim possible
WHO IS THAT. i can't take pictures i'm watching the trailer and pausing and unpausing on my switch while typing this on my laptop IS THAT A NEW HYRULEAN RACE. do you think it's like a fe3h ashen wolves moment where they've just been living underneath the ground because they were banished by hylia and no one knew lol
THE SANCTUM WAS RESTORED KSJDHFKJSDHFJKSDHF HOW DID THEY FIX IT SO FASTTTT what if link actually went back in time. the room is all sparkly so i'm like. did u fix it with magic or likeeeeee WHAT IS IT ASF
WHERE THE FUCK IS ZELDA. what do you guys MEAN you rely on link and the master sword. WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE??????? IS THAT THE ZONAI KING OR SOMETHING.
historically the hylians have believed in this like. pantheon of gods comprised of the golden goddesses + hylia, and i've always been under the assumption that other races just coexisted their faiths e.g. zora mainly believing in jabu-jabu, ww!rito believing in valoo, etc. what if there was like a pantheon of zonai gods but it's like greek vs roman style. what if hylia had a zonaian (?) counterpart. idk i'm spitballing out of my ass rn but i think it would be cool
re:WHO IS THAT. bulletpoint: WHAT IF THAT'S HYLIA'S ZONAIAN COUNTERPART. LOL
seeing all these flat little creatures floating in the sky makes me miss vah medoh and revali
WAS THAT TULIN. GO BACK HOME TO YOUR MOTHER?????????? WHERE IS TEBA.
link pulling people in wagon it's giving skyrim "oh you're finally awake" PAUSE WHAT ARE THOSE GREEN THINGS ON THE WHEEL. IS THAT ZONAI TECH/MAGIC
how the HELL did they build those shits on top of the talus. the bokos were really like It's Free Real Estate
link making himself a fully functioning tank rn. my brother in christ that is a vertical stone block with a cannon fused to its edge on wheels. i love it.
i kinda wanna know what happened to the elemental arrows. like in botw they tell you that rubies innately have the power of fire, but how does that differ from a regular fire arrow? does it do more damage?
HOLD ON TULIN WAS ABOUT TO GET EATEN BY THAT ICE MONSTER THING GO HOME??
what the FUCK is zelda cradling in her hands. is that a seed or life or something. it looks like an embryo lol. divine beast embryo
WAIT IS THAT HYLIA???? WHOAAAA
riju 🥺🥺🥺 the champion descendants 🥺🥺 doofus with a bucket on his head... SIDON WAIT HE HAS THE CROWN ON HIS HEAD
"link! you must find me!" WHERE ARE YOU GIRLLLL
i didn't realize there was a word limit. i just kept typing. ok those are my thoughts so far IM SO EXCITED

i know you made a post of links singing voice but since you write link with dialogue what do you imagine his normal speaking voice to sound like? as a whole seeing how different people write link speaking is so fun, do you think link is more witty or stoic, rambly or to the point, loud or quiet, vulgar or formal.. 🤔
you're right this is a very fun ask anon let me kiss u /p. after ingesting this ask, i of course started having a flood of ideas in my brain so i wrote . a lot . again. so get comfy, sit down, and have a snack!
i can't remember where i saw this or if it's even considered canon, but i remember seeing something about botw link being from the country, and as you might have guessed from reading one of my recent previous posts, i am very much a link's-hometown-was-hateno-village truther. i believe in-game bolson's text about the house in hateno pretty much implied that link might have been the previous owner prior to the calamity, but my take on it is that it was link's family home and the guy who left it behind was actually link's father, who sold the house and took link with him to hyrule castle. anyways regarding link's voice as a kid, besides probably sounding like a high-pitched little brat, i like to imagine that kiddie link probably had a heavy country accent. i'm clutching my stomach in laughter as i type this, but i thought about that topher kid from that one tiktok as what kid!link would sound like. god this topher kid is so fucking funny sdkjfjdkfkj i bet this paragraph didn't end how you thought it was going to
from here on, we know that pre-calamity link somehow got a hold of the master sword when he was like 12 or something, and sometime between then and being chosen as zelda's knight, he chose to remain silent because he knew the entirety of hyrule had their eyes on him, which is a very nerve-wracking situation to be in. since moving to closer to hyrule castle town with his father to join the knights, link's country accent slowly faded since the noble kids would make fun of him and call him farmboy and that he was dirt poor :/ so link carefully trained himself to talk in the standard dialect, but his accent slips if he gets too emotional or upset. when he got a hold of the master sword, the nobles were real fucking mad, saying stuff like The Master Sword is meant for legends, not a pathetic farmboy born in a pigsty like you. yeah i do not like these fake hylian nobles i just made up very much lol...
i like to think that when he felt more comfortable with the champions and zelda, he started talking a little more with them but mostly stayed quiet and communicated nonverbally. my first instinct was to say that link's voice would probably be rough and dry from disuse since he wasn't speaking very much, but i remembered my roots as a singer!link supporter and now i'm thinking about him humming to himself as he cooks himself a pumpkin stew like he does in-game, or whistling whatever notes come to mind, or (get this) singing quietly to zelda's batch of silent princess flowers in her private greenhouse in the castle gardens as he tends to them because he think that will make them grow stronger and healthier. he has never spoken to the king because he outright refuses to, tbh, but if he had to, i think link would do his best to sound stoic and formal. i doubt that he ever received like. "noble linguistics" training or some more classist bullshit like that, but when he and zelda get closer, link actually makes fun of her royal accent once or twice. he'd be doing shit like this video of bts namjoon's british accent and zelda is facedown on the floor laughing her ass off.
overall, i think pre-calamity link is very quiet and soft-spoken when he feels comfortable enough to talk, so quiet that daruk feels like he has to stop breathing to try to listen to what link is saying. don't get me wrong though, link isn't meek or shy (unless he's around revali teehee it's like his brain gets rewired around the rito). he simply just doesn't feel the need to broadcast his voice to everyone in hyrule. i also really like the idea of link knowing sign language, but he only likes to use it with zelda when he prefers to communicate nonverbally and later on, with the other champions (revali takes extra care to study as much hylian sign language so that he can understand link :> ).
now post-calamity/resurrection link... whew! it's pretty clear in the game that link has some method of communicating with everyone else in hyrule since we're given dialogue options despite link not having an actual VA saying words. i have chosen to believe that link becomes a vocal menace when he gets resurrected. since he wakes up with no memories, he obviously doesn't remember his whole History Has Its Eyes On You mentality (sorry for the h*milton reference) and goes apeshit on his own vocal chords. mf is running around the great plateau screaming and shouting and cursing (that's the one part of his memory that was kept intact). he also ends up talking to himself a lot, because for a lot of botw, you're alone. yes, you go to villages and meet travelers along the way, but for like 80% of the game you are . alone. so link has to keep himself entertained one way or another, to make sure he doesn't go completely crazy, and yeah you know what? he does get rambly sometimes, because he doesn't spend a lot of time with people as he traverses through hyrule so he doesn't really know the best times to start or stop talking. he gets a hang of it though! he told a random traveler once who was interested in getting up into the great plateau that he woke up on the plateau, an old man made him go get these dumb purple balls in those shrine things for the paraglider that he just knew needed to be with him, turns out the guy was the ghost of KING RHOAM BOSPHORAMUS HYRULE, and then he jumped off of the plateau using the paraglider. the traveler dude looked at him like he was insane, so link was like yeah i'm never talking about this to anyone else ever again.
now when link remembers memories of the past as he travels... he goes unnaturally silent for a while. of course, if he gained this memory while talking to someone, he still continues to talk to them, just... with less words. but when he's out there in the wilderness by himself get psychologically assaulted by shattered and frayed images of people he can hardly remember, memories getting replayed in his head and tattooed behind his eyes, all because this neat alcove under a tree in the rain looked kinda cool... his throat locks up and his mouth dries and he remembers even for a sliver of a moment, what his past self must have felt like, choosing to stay silent despite all the pressure trying to crack his ribcage open like a tree nut. those memories are on replay in the forefront of his mind for a couple days and he can't sleep. it was even worse when he went to rito village to fight windblight ganon, and link started have full body pains as he received memories of revali all at once, collapsing in pained sobs in saki and teba's roost. why did his heart so much? it didn't hurt like this when he remembered daruk, or even mipha...
also from the in-game dialogue options, link is very sassy and that's so #real of him. some of those options really spoke to me, like the dumb puns he makes ("Let's seal the deal!" oh you think you're funny huh?) or when he demands the paraglider from the old man ("Hand it over!" #throwback to my post about the paraglider). idk sometimes i can only imagine link with crossed arms and a hip cocked out and an eyebrow raised like yass come on mean girls! imagine meeting the hylian champion and you call him pretty and he's like awh thanks you too! and you're like omg thank you :D and he's like. so you agree. you think you're pretty? so yes link is a little bitch sometimes LMAO
i also think it would be funny if link came up with his own curses as he travels and when he curses in front of others, they're standing there like. what just came out of your mouth????? because link is out here saying shit like Suck my lynel guts you fuckheaded shitshroom Like dude is just stringing words together from what the hyrule compendium told him when he took pictures of the ingredients and items he was finding. just making shit up and saying whatever words he wants based on vibes and whatever feels right. impa takes him aside and gives him a list of proper/modern curse words, but link will still fight bokos and be like I'm gonna shove this ancient core up your ass and roast you on a spit shroomfucker. his accent definitely bleeds back into his voice when he does his weird version of cursing too, so link will save random travelers from monsters and sometimes yell at them while he's fighting them off if his emotions are running high, and the travelers are just like Who is this guy and what is he even saying
i think that link would still retain his soft-spokenness after some time, especially post-calamity fight when the champions are revived. like a lot of what i just said are more kind of special cases; screaming on the great plateau is a perfectly normal response to waking up with amnesia and then there's these red little pig-faced guys trying to bite you. and of course i'm not saying link is always talking to himself as he travels across the map. his horse would have kicked him off long ago from being irritated. but when he stops to rest and make food for himself and his horse in the wilds, he hums or sings quietly as he cooks, because it's comforting to him even if he doesn't remember why. sometimes he'll take a nap in some random cave or just sit quietly under a tree listening to the sounds of the rain falling around him. (link calms down considerably when the champions are revived, and he gets revali back, because now he's able to properly deal with his memories and eventually regains most of them peacefully. revali is horrified though when link stubs his toe and link starts hissing like Ah fuck this you keese-faced gutfucker Like HUH? EXCUSE ME?)
overall, post-resurrection link is just a traumatized little guy with no inhibitions and lets some his impulsive thoughts win. he's a chatty, charismatic prettyboy who also will go completely silent and stare with dead eyes and definitely jumpscared beedle like that once.
