Theo isn’t a lover of the camera, this being associated with his fears, but today I suppose he was too tired to argue. As a result we get to see his handsome face. Thank you for the blessing, sweet boy. 🥰 Theo continues to learn of the good things in life, ever so slowly conquering his fears. For example, he no longer lowers and hides his head when I bring his food bowl to him; he holds it up normally. This is big! It took a long time to happen but we are so proud of him for this milestone! Things like this in a dog so fearful is exciting, as little as it may seem. Theo continues to make baby steps with his fears. I was so proud of him for his flea/tick/heartworm prevention this month b/c he let me walk up to him and apply it without running away from me. Funny as it seems, it was like we’d climbed a mountain, and I was thrilled. 🥰 With special needs, it takes time, patience, consistency and love. We realize when we pull these emotionally special needs dogs that this is the case and that we’ll be responsible for their care for a significant amount of time. We’re willing to do that when it means that a dog who has lived a life of torment and fear, such Theo, will ultimately become stronger, more confident, able to recognize genuine love and companionship, understand that things can be safe and fun, as well as understand that there IS life without cruelty. Theo dove his head and body into the corners of the room, horrified of what was to become of someone walking up to him, trembling as if he were in 100 below temps. It makes you physically ache to see this in an animal, never able to comprehend exactly why and what they went through. But now he is on the road to ridding the heartworms and no longer has the other parasites. He plays and plays hard. He’s remembered that he’s a mighty Anatolian. He has friends who adore him, his best bud and mentor, a girlfriend, bones and toys, his favorite spot in the house, comfortable beds, delicious food and treats, and he receives hugs and kisses. Let me repeat…he receives hugs and kisses without running. That, my friends, is magnificent. Just think…you’ve been a big part of that with your support. ❤️ We hope before too long he’ll be ready for adoption and someone with a compassionate, loving and dedicated heart will commit that heart to this incredibly handsome and kind soul.
