Idk what it is that makes me fixate so hard on one specific thing for years at a time, but I need it to chill out 😭 DnDads has been my only long-term media interest for like 1 and 1/2 years now, and it’s BORING to only like one thing ever lol I’m BORED!!! I need other things to be interested in, but I struggle with getting into new stuff (other than video games) sooo bad :(
That said, if you have DnD podcast recs that have interesting characters……… GIMME 👀 Also where the early episodes aren’t a nightmare to listen to 🙏 I have never listened to any other DnD podcasts, and I think it’s mostly bc the earlier seasons are always poor audio quality or like 3 hours long 😭 I’m also good with any type of narrative podcast. I just want compelling characters and platonic/familial dynamics pls. Stuff I can write sad shit about!! But also not TOO sad the whole time… maybe a little bit silly idk
So far, ones I’ve written down to listen to are Cast Party and Friends at the Table? I don’t know anything about either of them, though so? Also I keep seeing my mutuals posting Oxventure and Woe.Begone (although the latter isn’t a DnD podcast.. I think?) sooooo let me know your thoughts. And recommendations! Send me your propaganda! Tell me about your blorbos

Hello! Could you maybe tell what laptop/computer you use? The one I have can handle the sims 2 but there's some lag (probably because I have 8gb worth of cc lol) and my graphics card isn't the best, so I was wondering if you had any suggestions? :) thanks in advance!
Hii!
The laptop I use is pretty outdated, imo! But here are my specs <3. It’s a Samsung laptop, Windows 7, i3 2.50 GHZ, intel(R) HD Graphics 4000, with a 8.00 GB RAM and 500 GB of space divided between drives (C:) and (D:)
Despite some outdated specs, I think it works relatively well! It hardly ever lags, despite huge downloads folders. But, it does take hours to load, lol. figures. My old downloads folder was 50+ GB and would take 2.5 hours to load, while my newly restarted downloads folder is just about 30 GB and takes an 45 mins-hour. My gameplay downloads folder is also around 10 and takes 20 mins.
That’s it for specs! Hope it helps.
If you’re a sims 2 director who’s struggling to film, I shared some tips on how to avoid a lagging game, from a director’s perspective under the cut c:
OK. So here is a couple of things I do to avoid my game lagging while I try to film:
1 - The newest thing I’ve been doing that I’ve found helps A LOT is something that people have been doing since like the beginning of sims lol and it’s separating your downloads into folders, or, at the very least, body shop CC + buy/build mode CC. What I do is, after using that approach, I load the body shop with my body shop CC only, and make the sims I need for the episode. Then, I place the buy and build mode CC and take out the body shop CC, and package the sims I dressed up earlier in body shop. That way, I would load my game with all the buy/build CC i need, and the body shop CC I need for that specific episode (so, I’d end up with, let’s say, 8 hairs instead of 100). (P.S. don’t forget to include the accessories CC alongside the buy and build mode CC, tho, since they dont package with the sims!).
2 - I avoid heavily decorated neighborhoods!!! Whenever I try and decorate the a neighborhood to look all nice and pretty in the windows of sets while I film, the neighborhood doesnt survive a couple of scenes. Now, I just decorate one (1!) spot in the entire neighborhood and strategically place every lot i need in that same spot thats surrounded by building decorations and trees lol.
3 - Unless I absolutely need to, I always avoid having more than 8 sims in one lot. I feel like my game tends to lag/crash a lot when I do. Alternatives I use: If you need to make it look like the room is crowded (i.e. party), try and move the 5-6 sims you’re working with to fit in the angle you’re currently using. It may get hectic moving the sims from one angle to the other, but it beats your game crashing/lagging every 5 mins. :’) And you can always use deco sims, though I try my best to always avoid that because I don’t like how still they are vs. the sims that are being filmed
4 - I never use full sets. lol. that shit lags and crashes my game soooooo often, especially with how heavily decorated my lots usually are. Instead, I make every room I need a set independent from any other room. For example, if I have a scene in the main kitchen, that’ll be a lot by itself. When my sims move from the kitchen to the living room, I log them out from the “kitchen” lot, and into the “living room” lot. I know it sounds like a lot of work, but trust me, it has saved me from so much unnecessary lagging and crashing when you go from a 2-story heavily decorated home to one (maybe two, if im feeling dangerous) rooms. Back in 2017, I shared four sets that showcase how my sets usually look like in series (skip to 5:55). Think of the lots as....sets from tv shows. Where the actors go from one cluster of a room to another lol. P.S. I build the exterior as a separate lot as well, and shoot however many shots i need of it before I move on to the interior sets to start filming
5 - Don’t overwork your laptop/computer. Now, this has nothing to do with CC, but i’ve found that the game usually lags while I film (With Fraps, sometimes dropping the framerate to 2 frames per minute), because I have other programs on like Sony Vegas or Photoshop. Try and have the sims 2 and fraps being the only programs you have open when you film, and see if that helps.
Hope you found any of these tips helpful!! <3 Good luck with your game!

Race Report: Greater Nashua Sprint Triathlon
My first triathlon of 2019 was a sprint distance race held in southern New Hampshire, called the Greater Nashua Sprint Triathlon. I settled on this race in particular after several months of research, trying to find a race that was both within driving distance and lined up with my training schedule for my 70.3 race. I didn’t know anything about it other than what I found on the website and Facebook page, but it was the 10th annual running of the event, so it seemed likely to be a well-organized race.
Pre-Race
An added bonus to this race was that my wife’s parents and brother live just an hour away from the race location, so we were all able to stay with them and combine it into a family visit. It’s a huge benefit to race day preparations to be in a comfortable location with family before an event, so I’m grateful we were able to have that opportunity. I went to bed at the same time as my kids, and actually managed to sleep through most of the night. I only woke up once, at about 3 AM, and then drifted in and out until about 5, when I got up.
Breakfast was my customary bowl of oatmeal flavored with maple syrup with a coffee. While I had the syrup out, I took the opportunity to fill my gel bottle. I still wasn’t sure if I would even use fuel during the race, because it was so short, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to have it along.

Nice morning view
I had everything pretty much ready to go the night before, so all I had to do in the morning was load my bike, put my transition bag in the car, and head out. The drive was uneventful. As I got close to Nashua, I started to see more and more cars carrying bikes. It wasn’t long before I saw a fully decked out Quintana Roo on the back of a pickup. Welcome to New Hampshire.
Parking was an absolute nightmare. There was a lot designated for racers, which was the entire area around a local school, but it was already packed to the gills by the time I arrived. I ended up having to park underneath a swing set. I checked the air in my tires at my car, put my transition bag on my bag and rode to the transition area.
Transition was pretty well organized, with everyone having a marked spot on the racks. Once again my bike was too tall to fit very well on the rack. The saddle was too high to easily get it under the bar, and then there wasn’t enough of a hang to keep it on there securely. Not much I could do about it, so I set up my transition stuff and went to get body-marked, check out the transition routes, and wander down to the water.
My transition setup. My rear wheel is basically on the ground.
There were about 15 minutes of announcements before the race, which felt like they took forever. I tried to keep my arms moving, doing some arm circles and such, but mostly just stood around feeling my springs coil. Finally, they started calling waves. Everyone had an assigned wave number, and when your wave was called, you went down to a dock area to check-in and queue up for the start.
Swim
This was my first race wearing a wetsuit. It was also my first race with a wave start. It cheated everyone out of some time, because the timing mat was on the dock and the waves treaded water for a minute or two before actually starting. But at least everyone lost the same amount of time, so it didn’t really matter.
I put some water on the back of my neck just before jumping in, but it felt like a warm bath. I was prepared for a cold shock when stepped off the dock, but it was just balmy. I grabbed the start line rope and floated until the starter gave us the go signal, then I was off.
One of the first waves heading out
Almost immediately, I felt like something was wrong. I wasn’t more than 30 seconds into it and I felt absolutely awful. I thought I might be getting sick. Was I even moving? I couldn’t really tell. My line was way off, too, and I kept veering to the right. I tried to focus on my technique and things got a little better. I decided that whatever I was feeling, it wasn’t getting any worse, so I would just push through it. I had done enough swim training to know that I wouldn’t suddenly drown or anything, especially while wearing a buoyant wetsuit. The worst case was that my arm strength would just give out, and it hadn’t yet. So there was no reason to stop. On I went.
About halfway through the loop, I started catching some people. I have no idea if they were in my wave or the wave before mine, or possibly the wave after mine, having gotten ahead of me at the start. I didn’t try to swim over anyone but I didn’t really seem them coming, either, so some contact was inevitable.
I hadn’t set a goal time for the swim, but from experience I expected something between 10-15 minutes in the back of my mind. When I finally stood up to exit, it felt like it had been twice that, but I figured realistically it was maybe 12 minutes.
I looked at my watch and saw an 8. Suddenly things made a little more sense. I had been going faster — much faster — than I thought. No wonder I felt like my chest was going to explode.
Official Swim Time: 8:49 (.3 mi) – 1:41/100 yd 7/32 in age group; 34/414 overall
T1
T1 sent us up a sandy path through the woods to the grassy area where the bikes were. There were wetsuit strippers waiting for us, which was awesome. I pulled my wetsuit down below my waist, slid into home on the tarp, and my suit was popped off before I even knew what was happening. I thanked the volunteers and headed to my bike.
About to get stripped
I had toyed a bit with leaving my shoes on my bike with rubber bands, but ultimately couldn’t really figure out how to do it so it worked properly, and I was worried about the rubber bands getting caught in my gears, so I decided to just put my shoes on in transition, run the bike out, and clip in. I certainly wasn’t going to try a flying mount, so this was a reasonable option for me. At the last second I grabbed my maple syrup bottle and slid it into my tri suit pocket.
Official T1 time: 3:13 – 91/414 overall
Bike
The bike route was very short, and very flat. I’d only done three previous races before this one, but this was the shortest and flattest by far. I had been doing a lot of mental gymnastics about the bike leg in the days leading up to the race, debating my approach. Overall, I wanted this race to be something of a practice session for my 70.3 — transition logistics, using a wetsuit, etc. I thought about also extending that to pacing, to practice the mental and emotional control required to slow myself down at the start of the bike leg so that I would be able to hold the right pace throughout, and then have enough left over for the run. But as soon as I was clipped in, that decision was made. It was go time.
Because I didn’t have any pacing or power targets, I ended up watching my heart rate most of all while out on the course, followed by my speed. My heart rate was shockingly high compared to the levels I was used to seeing during my training, which is predominantly spent in zone 2. But I knew that wasn’t necessarily a problem. The race was short enough that I could work at or above threshold for the whole thing. They call it a sprint for a reason, after all.
The other fun thing about a sprint is that passing someone on the bike leg is usually permanent. In a longer race, it can often be just the first of two meetings, the second of which being when they come back and smoke you on the run. But in a sprint, they are more likely to run out of road if you go full throttle on the bike. Since it was a wave start, I knew that passing people was not an entirely accurate representation of my place in the field. But it was motivating anyway. So I reeled in as many people as I could, and made sure that nobody passed me. The best part was passing those $6,000 tri bikes on my gravel bike with regular old drop bars.
As it turned out, I was glad to have my maple syrup on board. I took a couple hits, one partway through and one just before T2. It felt helpful, and made me realize that I would probably need more fuel than I had been thinking during my longer race in July.
The bike course covered, I had a clean dismount just at the line, and ran my bike in to the transition area again.
Official Bike Time: 25:45 (9.6 mi) – 22.4/mph 4/32 in age group; 18/414 overall
T2
T2 was my slowest performance on the day, relative to the field. I didn’t deliberately go slow, but I wasn’t rushing, either. I’m pretty particular about how my shoe lace-up feels, and that combined with the socks I use (which are not super easy to get on) probably accounted for my slow time. But I made it out on the run with everything I needed and feeling pretty good, so I wasn’t too worried about blitzing through T2.
Official time: 1:51 – 313/414 overall
Run
I expected to be running fast out of transition, having experienced that phenomenon before. Adrenaline is high and you are excited to just get going, and before you know it you’re running way faster than you expected. I checked my watch after a couple hundred yards and saw I was running close to 7:30 min/mi, which is very fast for me. For reference, I ran all of my sprints last year at around 9:00 min/mi. My first reaction was to feel like I needed to back off, slow down and find a more conservative pace, but then I remembered it was only 3.1 miles. I was able to hold a strong pace through the swim and bike, why not the run? Might as well go for it, and see how long I could hold it before I slowed down. The worst case was that my pace would slow for the back half of the race, but I knew I would finish no matter what. Go time continued.
I focused on my cadence through most of the run, trying to keep the rhythm even and high. That seems to be my key to running fast (such that “fast” is, for me), when I need to. If I think about ‘running fast,’ it’s harder to do, but if I just focus on my cadence, it’s easier for some reason.
The run was also a very flat course, with only a couple slight inclines, when my pace dipped closer to 8:00 min/mi. I was able to hold my cadence pretty well throughout. Two or three people passed me, including a 60+ year old woman and a kid, wearing the race t-shirt. Sigh. But overall I held my pace and I felt strong throughout.
By the time the last half-mile came around, I was starting to feel it, particularly in my hips and my abdominals. I was definitely on the edge, pushing to maintain the pace. There wasn’t much of anything left for a late surge, all I could do was hold what I had through the chute and over the finish line.
Official Run Time: 24:19 (3.1 mi) – 7:50/mi 11/32 in age group; 65/414 overall
Overall Results: Time: 1:03:55 5/32 in age group; 34/219 by gender; 36/414 overall
Post Race & Summary
The race venue had a lot of activities for kids, which was great for when my family arrived. There were at least three bouncy houses, plus a clown making balloon animals, and kid-friendly food. The food was great, and there was tons of it, all of it free as far as I could tell, at least for racers. It wasn’t just bananas and bagels, there was an entire sandwich buffet, flatbread pizza, Italian ice, all kinds of things. The only real negatives for me about the race organization and venue were parking and the lack of a professional race photographer (there were only official volunteers, who took substandard photos and whose coverage was incomplete). Otherwise, it was a well-organized and fun race on a decent course.
As far as my performance goes, I came away a little surprised and with a lot to think about. I had definitely underestimated my potential in the water and on the run. I really didn’t have any idea that I could swim or run that fast over any distance. Almost immediately, I started thinking ahead to July, and trying to sort out what that means for my 70.3. Obviously I won’t be racing at these speeds at that distance. But my personal bar has been raised, there’s no getting around that. Now I have the task of handling that knowledge without it infiltrating my head in a negative way. Expectations for a race are not usually helpful.
I tried to examine whether I could have gone any faster, any harder, improved in any area in order to jump to the 1st-3rd place podium from my 5th place spot. I would have had to be about 6 mins faster to do that. Certainly I was maxed on the swim. I don’t think I was at maximum capacity on the bike, but I was fairly close. The run didn’t have a whole lot of room to give, either. When I look at the actual times between 5th (me) and 3rd, here’s what I find:
PlaceSwimT1BikeT2RunTotal3rd8:202:2525:390:3521:0958:065th (me)8:493:1325:561:5124:191:03:55Difference:0:290:480:171:163:105:49
Clearly the majority of time lost was on the run. That isn’t surprising to me, since I’ve never been a fast runner. But I’m encouraged, because I’m way faster than I used to be. The next biggest deficit was T2, followed relatively closely by T1. The differences on the swim and the bike combined could be easily surmounted by improving just my transitions alone. Or I could have pushed a bit harder on the climbs (such as they were) on the bike and probably wiped out a lot of that time. But most of the improvement work to be done is clearly in my run.
Is this a microcosm of what I can expect at longer distance? It will be interesting to see how the ratios play out there. I’d also be interested in comparing these relative results to my results from last year’s sprints. That is, how much slower — relative to the field — was I in transition vs. the bike leg, or run leg. Maybe that will be a good subject for a future post. You can’t compare races 1:1, but I think you can get a sense of how the relative balance of everything plays out, and what that means for your skill set and fitness level. If nothing else, it’s an interesting diversion.

Velo-Schils BMCR Double Circuit Races
2 x Cat ABCD races 9 May 2021 Northern Gateway Sports Park, Colchester
Tumblr media
The Northern Gateway Sports Park is a rubbish name for a really good brand new facility on the edge of Colchester. It features a one-mile cycle circuit loop. The Velo-Schils BMCR races there caught my eye as it was a chance to check it out.
Tumblr media
This would be my first BMCR race and partly a plan to focus more and more on veteran’s racing, with a view to having a good go at some of the Vet 50+ races next year. The 30 spaces filled up pretty fast and I scanned the start list beforehand and did a crude calculation of who I might be able to get the best of, and who was better than me. My slide rule suggested I would be 14th.
Tumblr media
I packed well in advance. It’s nice to feel prepared. However, with 48 hrs to go, my rear wheel decided to fail. It is on its last legs. Or maybe even finished. Luckily, a word out through Strava and I had several offers of a spare wheel. I also found time to see Richard in Ashwell for some TLC on the wheel to patch it up as best as could be done.
The drive over is quite long, but it’s very easy and I’m there without fuss. The facility is really new. It reminds me of Lee Valley Velodrome in some ways: layout and general buzz. The circuit has a similar vibe too.
The loop is really quite straightforward, making it fast. The bends are mostly gentle, it’s as good as flat, so every corner is attacked at speed. It is a flatter version of the Lee Valley circuit, without the dead-ish corner at the far end. An MK Bowl-Lee Valley lovechild. It does have an oddly sketchy chicane - near the finish line too. In itself not a bad challenge, but the run off is into chunky gravel and pretty certain disaster if you need to ride into it. I would recommend they fringe it with some safer rideable edges. Like they have at Lee Valley.
Tumblr media
I arrive in good time, register and pin up and get a good 20 minutes easy rollering in. Mostly to wake the driving legs up. It’s warm with a light breeze for the first race. This would be a double race event. Each half-hour race, half an hour apart. I have brief chats with CC Luton’s Matt who I met at the Ashwell chaingang a few weeks ago. And I get to congratulate Valentino on his great 6th place at last weekend’s Hog Hill race. I twiddle away in the car park whilst watching the 60+ age category race and hope I’ll be as fit and fast as those guys one day in the future.
Tumblr media
We set off on a neutralised lap. We’re going clockwise. I hear later that British Cycling won’t approve the course to go anti-clockwise. But can’t work out why. Going clockwise means hitting the chicane hard near the finish line and adds considerable drama.
We glide over the start line, the flag goes and we’re off and full gas. As I’ve literally never raced a millimetre of the nice tarmac, I choose to tuck inside the bunch for the first few laps to try and figure out the best lines. It’s a northerly wind and I get into a gliding rhythm of drifting from one side of the bunch line to the other in search of shade from the breeze. At times, the bunch seem indifferent to the optimal protection from the wind, which is good news to me. I find out that the first left bend is too tricky to try and jump on the inside. It’s too tight and you lose all your speed. The far bend that brings on the return leg is gentle and swooping and quite easy to find the right line except for when you get over the rise where you need to be careful not to clip off the left edge of the track. There’s a significant drop in height to the left. If you come off the track here, it would be interesting to see if you could claw back on OK.
Tumblr media
The return leg of the lap is gentle in curve. This will most often be a headwind and possibly where a break would most commonly be made or consolidated.
Then, turning to the lap start/finish, there’s a chicane. If you’re not being observant, it will catch you out and you’re off into the heavy gravel stuff. Past here and it’s a dash to the line. Really short.
Tumblr media
After a short while I’m conscious of the burn I’m making being at the back. Too much braking and surging. Wasted watts. I try and climb higher into the bunch and have an easier time. I notice many riders are not carrying a bottle but I do - to keep the airways clear and cool and to swig and signal when you want to communicate you’re not going to push hard on the front.
There are some great riders in the mix and I am aware my chances of any success lies in keeping it a bunch and going long at the end. There are some brave moves at a breakaway. But everyone is too fresh to let anything go. Having said that, in to the last lap and one rider has a certain gap while we others chase down the rest of the places. I have a good go at things with half a lap to go and find myself in a decent position where there’s good momentum. It seems it won’t be a slow - then manic surging - finish. My least favourite race finish. We swoop the final corner and everyone is pretty locked into their position. I have a clean run in and am happy to come in 10th, 4th in Age Category (B, 45-49).
Tumblr media
We clear the course, there’s a bit of banter and I make my way back to the rollers for 10 minutes to keep the legs turning ahead of race 2. It’s now hotter. The bike computer is saying 26 degrees, with heat bouncing off the tarmac. It’s also significantly windier.
Fresh energy drink. Another gel. A little chewy bar. An apple. We’re off into race 2. I can feel the lack of freshness this time but also know that others will feel it too. It’s a relaxed start and one guy goes rogue over the chicane and cuts across the course, to prove his cyclo-cross skills and maybe to make a point on this pokey-out bit. Laughter over, it dials up. Soon, it’s hot wattage again. I feel like I’m in the Ashwell chaingang, “lap 3”, where it’s biting but doable. I can feel we’re dropping riders here and soon start to see some on the opposing part of the track. But I’m doing OK and enjoying learning the curves. At one point I see Valentino and a few others consolidate a break and think that looks good. I breathe in a make a burst over to them. I’m pleased to have made the leap. Unfortunately, my effort wasn’t quite a clean break and I pull the bunch with me too much. But, I’m pleased to have been able to apply this effort without too much trouble.
Tumblr media
Fresh legs. My strategy to get to today with fresh legs looked like this:
Sunday, hard short Zwift crit, full beans for 22 mins.
Monday, easy 2.5hrs road ride
Tuesday, hard Ashwell chaingang, 1 hr 15 mins
Wednesday, hard Ashwell 10m TT, 23 mins 40 secs.
Thursday, nothing really. Home-made 40 mins HIT gym session, + 5k light run.
Friday, 20 miles easy morning tailwind ride. Was thinking about a Zwift crit too, but exhausted by a stressful day at work.
Saturday, nothing. Sports physio in the afternoon.
Sunday, racin’. 48hrs of fresh legs.
I enjoy the level-headedness of my co-riders. No stoopid moves. Though one rider does lurch to the left and I have to be evasive to avoid getting chopped. A Rapha CC rider observes this and raises his eyebrows at me and laughs, while I roll my eyes invisibly from behind my fancy new shades. Drama - but no drama - sort of thing. Grown ups.
OK. Last few laps. I don’t quite know how, but I read the lap counter wrong. On reflection, I may have read “3 laps to go” as the sign was being put out - not to announce it was actually “3 laps to go”. Anyway, for whatever reason, when I see the Colourtech rider, followed by the nippy Stow CC rider ping off the front with what I think is the final lap, I go with. I cross the line and hear the bell and don’t see the chequered flag. Oops. Racing is planning and opportunism. What to do now? Without much thought, I figure, I may as well give it full beans and see what happens. There are no points to score this season. Colourtech chap is significantly ahead and not interested in teaming up. Stow CC fella is burning up fast and I’m catching him. But I’m frazzling quickly too. The bunch are around 8-10 bike lengths behind. Into the headwind and I can see and feel this is a desperate attempt to beat the bunch. They are not relenting and I am dipping below 25mph. This is hopeless.
Tumblr media
Stow elbows me to take the front but my help is feeble. Into the final big bend and I can hear the wheels of the bunch. I’m pedalling squares in the final short sprint and swamped. 11th, 4th in Age Category again (B, 45-49). Ah well. I had a go. This might have worked if I had been allowed to escape with half a lap to go. Something to think about for another time. It was good to pressure the bunch and I will think about such a move again in the future. I need to use my TT more in races.
Race over. We’re all done. I say bye to Mark, Valentino and several other of my competitors for the day and get home without fuss. I think about a celebratory McDonalds from the one opposite the park, but the 40 car queue puts me right off an it’s a bobbins Wild Bean Cafe BP garage americano and a banana and clementine from my food bag instead.
I look forward to more adventures here and more BMCR racing too.

99 q/a for 2017
1.    What’s the toughest decision you made today? To get out of bed after a 3 hour nap.
2.    What’s the toughest decision you made this year? I would say turning around at the airport, not going to Moscow, deciding my mental health is more important than that trip. However, I was just following my fear, which is quite an easy feeling to follow. And I have not once found myself second guessing that call. I am not one to dwell too much on decisions like that. I honestly contemplate more about what I’m having for dinner, or what underwear to buy – and I always end up regretting or celebrating those decisions more.
3.    What’s the toughest decision you ever made? Once I spent over an hour deciding if I wanted carbonara or caciatora. I went with caciatora, and that day I learned that if you are in doubt, you should always go with what your dinner company orders. My dad got carbonara, and it was out of this world. If you order the same thing as your date, it might still be the lesser option, but at least you will not know what you are missing. As an intellectual, this is one of the conclusions I’m the most proud of.
4.    What have you forgotten? Almost all the math I was taught in high school.
5.    If you were guaranteed the answer to one question, what would it be? I would love to know who is answering me, and how they got the ability to answer any question ever.
6.    What’s it like being you right now? Better than it has been. A lot better. I’d say good.
7.    What makes you nostalgic? Lenny Kravitz, long car rides, the soundtrack of midsummer murders and the smell of old Swedish cabin in a Småland forest (we all know that smell).
8.    If you had two hours left on earth what would you do? Sit close to my parents, and talk about our life together. And tell them how grateful I am and how happy they’ve made me.
9.    What’s the most beautiful word in the world? The Swedish Blockchoklad or the Russian Nemnoga
10. Who makes you laugh more than anyone? Alex, no doubt.
11. What did your father teach you? How to show affection, how to make people laugh, how to interact with strangers, how to put together a good outfit, how to cook and pretty much everything I know on economy and religion. And how much it means to have amazing parents that never, not even once, let you down.
12. What did your mother teach you? How to not give a shit about anyone’s opinion, how to appreciate simplicity, how to be a storyteller, how to calm down when afraid, how to love without giving yourself up, how to be badass and pretty much everything I know on literature, self-esteem and really bad British crime stories. And how much it means to have amazing parents that never, not even once, let you down.
13. What’s the best gift you’ve ever given? An orange moose I gave to my dad. It was really cheap and dumb, but he had just been diagnosed with a chronical disease (he is much better now) and everything just seemed to fall apart. So I did what any good daughter would do, I bought him a stuffed animal. It made him smile. And he still keeps it by his bedside. It’s called the vomit moose, since that was the most… obvious symptom at the time.
14. Best gift you ever received? My friend Lin gave me a card once with pictures and drawings of us. I love it and still have it ten years later.
15. How many times a day do you look in the mirror? Way too many.
16. What do you bring most to a friendship? I’d like to think I am funny. I talk too much, and always about the wrong and often quite strange things, but when I’m in the right mood and they’re in the right mood; I’d say I am funny.
17. If 100 people in your age group were selected randomly, how many do you think they’d find leading a happier life than you? Very few if we are talking happy as in privileged. I am so very lucky and have had so many fortunate turns in my life.
18. What is or was your best subject in school? Social science.
19. What activity do you do that makes you feel most like yourself? Writing.
20. What makes you feel supported? I do. (Wow, I am actually quite proud of that answer, but it is true. Sometimes I look for help or motivation in others, but confidence and shit I truthfully only find in myself).
21. Whom do you secretly admire? Secretly? No one. I admire a lot of people, and I think I make sure to tell them.
22. What time of the day do you feel the most energetic and what do you usually do in those moments? Noon. Usually waste that energy on procrastination.
23. What’s something you never leave home without? Pants.
24. What’s a recurring dream you have? Teeth falling out. Or organs. I quite often have nightmares about some stuff that is supposed to be inside or attached to my body suddenly isn’t.
25. What makes you feel safe? Blankets and tea.
26. What’s the best thing that ever happened to you? Discovering international law as my field of work.
27. What do you want people to say about you once you’re gone? That I was smart.
28. What’s the coolest thing about science? Well… let’s go with nature science, because my field of research is not cool at all. I think it’s about the fact that nature is there. It’s not something we invent or solve, it’s something we discover. It’s all written, all the answers are out there somewhere. All the equations, all the numbers, they all correspond to a reality we only see fragments of. It’s like humanity is reading a book together, and the physicists and biologists flip the pages. And for each chapter we find out more and more about how the world around us works.
29. What’s the best money you ever spent? My skinny, black jeans.
30. What’s a bad habit you have? Listening to bad music. I don’t want to support sexist or racist producers. Still here I am, having my playlists filled with pop about grabbing pussies. I’m also weirdly addicted to marzipan.
31. What are you grateful for? My professors and a free education.
32. Whom are you envious of? Almost everyone. But it varies, passes and comes back. It depends on the day. Or the hour.
33. What’s an image you’ll never forget? Well, I have to go with a few summers ago when me and a former classmate ended up skinny dipping in a sunset down at Österlen. But actually, the first thing that came to mind was the real holocaust footage that was included in the TV-show The Promise. I had to leave the room, could not finish the series and I still think about it quite often.
34. Describe a near-death experience. My brain thinks I have one daily, but I don’t think I’ve ever had one. Once I got my luggage lost in Russia, and we had to drive around downtown St Petersburg for hours in a shady cab. It was all fine and no hostile environment what so ever, but when I tell the story it really sounds quite near-death.
35. If you had a clone, what would you have the clone do? Dishes.
36. What’s your idea of Heaven? A lot of cozy spots by windows with rain outside. Good food, good tea and good conversation. A book shelf would be nice too.
37. What’s your idea Hell? Bad food, bad tea and bad conversation.
38. When did you know? Did I ever?
39. What can you do better? I could be more structured. I literally have no routines at all.
40. When are you most yourself? When I am alone, covered in loud music.
41. What superpower would you most like to have? Time travelling but without all the complicated world-war-shit to come with it.
42. If you were granted three wishes, what would you do with the second wish? Fix up the UN.
43. What is your actual superpower? I am very, very analytic. I am also amazing at app games.
44. If you won 100 million dollars, what would you buy first? I would love to own a goat. But well, that’s more of a management problem than an actual money problem.
45. What's the best sound in the world? Waves. Or someone biting in chocolate.
46. What’s perfect about your life? My parents. And Amanda. She is a wonderful person.
47. What song do you sing only when you’re alone and what memory does it bring back? Min Kärlek av Shirley Clamp. And there is no memories connected, it’s just fucking brilliant.
48. Describe a moment you were so embarrassed you wanted to disappear. When I was 8 we had a quiz in class, and I answered cow instead of turtle (I will NOT tell you the question).
49. How many times a day do you think about money? Every time I use it.
50. Who has been the biggest influence on you in your relationship to money? My parents.
51. What's one thing you're certain of? Cows don’t have shells.
52. Describe one of your colossal failures. I think I just did.
53. What makes you cringe? People trying to make memes a thing you can refer to in real life.
54. What does your inner voice tell you? To shut up. I tell it the same.
55. What crime have you considered committing? I don’t even bike without a helmet. I am a pussy.
56. What's great about your mom? Her hair is amazing.
57. What’s great about your dad? His hair is not so very amazing (and I inherited it) but he has other good qualities. He collects post-cards for example. That’s pretty cool.
58. Which day would you gladly re-live? The day in third grade when I won the egg-cracking championship at our school.
59. What are you awesome at? Egg-cracking, obviously.
60. What do you want people you meet for the first time to think about you? That I seem decent.
61. When were you most afraid? Berlin, 2014.
62. What are you terrible at but love to do anyway? Sex, probably.
63. What weapon would you carry during the Zombie Apocalypse? An axe or a sword. Or a nuke, if bad goes to worse.
64. Which of your five senses would you keep if you could only keep one? I would like to hear shit.
65. What’s something you love to make? Pancakes.
66. What do you cook better than anyone? This weird ass pasta with butter. It’s unhealthy but so damn good.
67. What do you wish you’d invented? The airplane. Or well… the flying machine or whatever it was called when it was invented.
68. What would you like to invent? A new UN system.
69. Out of 100 random people, where would you rank yourself in terms of your intelligence? Pretty high.
70. Where do you want to be right now? Venice.
71. If you could be someone else for a day who would it be and why? Graham Norton. He seems so happy. And he is funny and smart and his job seems to be really cool.
72. What makes you feel powerful? My Hans Zimmer playlist.
73. What’s the meanest thing you’ve ever said? Considering how empty my brain is right now, I think it has done quite some work on supressing those memories.
74. What’s the meanest thing someone has ever said to you? Actually, most people are nice. I don’t think anyone has ever been really mean to me. Sometimes I get hurt, when people say I am pretentious or annoying. But the only reason they say that (and the only reason it hurts) is it’s true.
75. What three words would you have on your grave stone? Let me sleep.
76. What’s your first thought when you wake up? Let me sleep.
77. What’s one thing you wake up to in the middle of the night worrying about? Usually if I have cancer in the prostate since I need to pee ALL the time. But then I remember I am a female.
78. If you could tell someone something anonymously, what would it be? I would tell my cousin Johan to never be insecure about anything. He is probably the most awesome, complete and admirable person in the world.
79. Whom would you like to forgive and forget? The people who made two and a half men.
80. If you could get rid of one of your responsibilities today, what would it be? Dishes.
81. What type of person angers you the most? Extreme right wingers who grew up in a place where they had a choice. Of course you can’t blame people for reacting to the environment around them, and get affected by their culture – but people who grow up with access to information and without oppression – how on earth did you make those conclusions?
82. What is your greatest strength? I’m confident about my intellect.
83. What is your worst weakness? I’m insecure about pretty much everything else.
84. How do you show your love for others?  Tiny surprises. It can be buying them flowers, cleaning their apartment or just answering a two years old text and apologize for forgetting their existence.
85. Why are you here in this room right now? It’s 10 degrees minus outside.
86. When is a time you forgave someone or were forgiven for something? I forgave myself for not doing the dishes. It felt good.
87. What’s the biggest mistake you ever made? Talking too much. I always talk too much. It’s not one big mistake at one certain event. But it keeps on happening and I never fucking learn.
88. What are you hiding? Nothing.
89. What’s your unanswerable question--the question you seem to always be asking yourself? Can there be true objectivity?
90. What are you ashamed of? My fetishes.
91. What is stopping you? Panic attacks. Or walls, mostly.
92. What’s a secret you have? I really have no idea what I am going to do with my life.
93. How do you secretly manipulate people to get your way? I don’t do this on purpose, but I’ve noticed it happening without actively thinking about it. I usually express a will to rely on people, and come across as weak and fragile, making them think I need their help and protection – when I am really just better of on my own.
94. When was the last time you apologized? This morning.
95. What is the biggest lie you tell yourself? That I am a cool and mysterious person that people look up to.
96. What’s the moment you left childhood behind? Probably when I moved out from home and went grocery shopping for the first time. Deciding if I needed milk or not was my first ever adult decision.
97. What's missing from your life? Structure. And home cooked meals.
98. Do you believe in a higher power? No.
99. What are you ready to let go of? About half my closet and my fear of flying.

I don’t know if it’s a 3rd times a charm thing or if we really just found a gem of an area, but nobody wants to leave this one.  A friend posted on IG a few weeks ago that she was camping at this magical place just an hour and a half from us and 45 mins from our next destination later in the week so I looked online and found their last spot remaining for the 2 days leading up to our other trip. It was perfect. And here we are.
It’s not a mountain destination so the drive was an easy one without passes and hills. We drove through such beautiful country with both grand and modest homes all set in valleys with horses and vast pastures. It was a different landscape, and an area Mike and I hadn’t explored which is weird for 2 Colorado natives. The last 5 miles to get here was up a winding road, then sharply down to the reservoir which is in a valley with hills surrounding. The views and setting are not as lush and intense as Steamboat Lake. You don’t look around in wonder, but there’s something so charming about it that feels more homey. Our spot isn’t right on the water, but a site back from it and still close by and our view from our site is the water. It’s beautiful and perfect for us. The reservoir is smaller so we can easily paddle from one end to the other, the water is clear and glassy with no motorized boats. People are out fishing, paddle boarding, and kayaking., but not too many. The camp host came over to check us in and asked how we heard of the place then asked us not to tell anyone about it because it’s such an overlooked little gem. (Hit me up on IG and inbox me if you want to know what it is ) It’s hardly reviewed on Google, unlike some of the larger more popular spots. I’m starting to think that people do this on purpose, leave no reviews just so their fave spots can stay under the radar. It’s a good lesson for sure, the ‘popular’ places are often not the best.
We wanted to leave the house at 10 and ended up leaving close to 1:00. The days leading up to when we leave are still really busy and I can’t figure out how to streamline the food prep. I tried making 4 out of the 5 dinners ahead of time including potato soup on a day when it was rainy so I didn’t consider that it would be 100 degrees out when we actually ate it. I also made lasagna which, again, the kids will eat and it’s filling after a long busy day. Mike overcooked the first batch of noodles which were mush, then used the no-boil ones for the current pan we have which will now have to cook in the oven for like an hour. I haven’t cooked anything except a frozen pizza in there so I have no idea what to expect. We’re hooked up to electric so we can use the AC which is great especially if we need the oven on.
We don’t have water hook ups, but since we didn’t last time in Steamboat either, we know that we can go 4 days without refilling water for sure. We’ll refill when we get to our next destination after the 2 nights here. I think we’re pretty well stocked. I like our set up and it works well for us. I’m looking out our windows now and can see another site with 3 tiki torches which make a lot of sense for light and bugs. Mike and I have been so tired after the long days that we haven’t been going outside to hang out once the girls are finally sleeping to enjoy the night. We plan fo head out tonight and play gin. It’s 9:00 and Lola is still up, we’ll see how I’m feeling once she finally submits.
Mike and I were talking on the way here about how different this is from how we were living before. Everyone we knew were like WTF are you doing camping? We had never done this as a family or even as a couple pre-kids so it was out of character. There’s something about it that feels so completely comfortable and great about it and we all took right to it. I was very worried about how I would feel and if I would be comfortable, but when we’re home in between trips I can’t wait to get back out here and have been booking more and more filling in times when we’re home. We love our little ‘house’ where we feel safe and happy that we can take anywhere. It actually beats a hotel because we have just what we need and can cook when we want. We feel like we’re on vacation just a few hours from home. It’s not what I imagined but I guess I didn’t know what exactly to expect having not done this before. It would seem like this isn’t ‘me’ at all, but I guess it was the whole time and I just didn’t know it. I still literally brought like a 10 piece skincare routine with me though, so I guess I’m a little bit of both.
One of the best parts of this is not thinking about Covid all the time. We can walk around, say hi to neighboring campers, and kayak or SUP whenever we want. We hike and do school too. It’s like a whole world here that’s already safe without even putting thought into it. The whole situation feels like a complete decompression for me and I can feel my shoulders leave my ears the moment we leave. We know we made the right decision every time we arrive at our site. We are very fortunate to be able to do this and are grateful for each moment. I told Mike tonight as we were walking the dogs after dinner and the girls were riding on their bikes that I have seen him in so many different situations, but not one like this. It’s nice after almost 20 years to see each other in a different light, working for the same goal and really enjoying each day. It has helped us to grow too.
The worst part so far is that something is broken on the RV (the dealership knows and is fixing it) so we can’t get the RV leveled. I feel like when I walk in the door, I’m running down an aisle like the Price is Right which is annoying. From the outside it doesn’t look that extreme, but from the inside I have to push the water down the drain and I feel like I have an inner ear problem or just left a cruise ship.
9:06, all 3 are sleeping. Wish me luck at Gin, I’m usually too chatty to focus and ever win a hand.

Race Fuel
If nothing else, it’s an interesting diversion.

peace, love n applesauce
1.) applesauce or pudding? - i really don't think i have had either in years, but tapioca pudding is what is best
2.) what was your initial reaction when you first realized that your parents had to have had sex to have you? - my initial reaction was probably like "ew!!" or something, but i don't think i was overly traumatized because i don't know who my real father is lol!
3.) if you could create ANY mix-up or mythical animal and have it be brought to life, what would it be? - that is a very good question. i think i want a dog that looks like a baby cow. lol.
4.) what kind of bread do you prefer? - i love the maple oat bread, or onion bagels, or if i want to gain 10 lbs in   an hour i'll eat my moms crazy cheesy bread, that has sour cream and cheese melted on a sour dough bread.
5.) describe a moment that is a prominent memory, but didn't have a strong impact on your life. - this is challenging, because i feel like anything could be a strong impact on your life.   but maybe the other day when i went to star bucks, the gal there took my money, and said "have a nice day!" without   giving me my coffee. lol. no big deal in reality, but in theory that could be very dangerous in the morning :P.
6.) what is the quote/lyric that you relate to most? - oh jeez, i don't want to depress anyone haha, so i'll pick a cheerful song-- "Lose yourself to dance" by daft punk. Every time   I hear it in the car with Jon, it always reminds me of us trying to pick each other up on difficult days. the lyrics   "I know you don't get a chance to take a break this often" seems probably pretty relatable to most.
7.) if there was one problem/issue you could wipe off the face of the earth, what would it be? - i just hate the senior project so much. if it could go away forever, that'd be great.
8.) do you think everyone in our lives serves a purpose, or are some people just there? - i think in a way. what if i decided to go to the dentist office ten minutes early, rather than ten minutes later...   maybe a person was checking out their son at the reception   and then accidentally turned around too quickly hitting you and spilling your coffee all over the place. idk stupid example,   but i feel that the decisions every one does do affect the people nearest them

14.) strangest pet peeve? - i don't like when people scream/yell when they are talking... like i can hear you. no greater the age, the more annoying the loudness is, but it is still pretty annoying to me when children are loud too. so theres that thing about me. lol.

On touring Europe, making a new show each time, and learning their craft all the time. check the body language, how Dean touches J (her breast, knees, how they’re sitting).
JT: CHris is the more creative one with with a show in their own style
I would be scared to try anything new because I was afraid of hurting him.
CD: we had the blade though the hand, we had the blade through the head
4:40 on the question of the relationship off the ice CD says taking JT’s hand: we were going to make the announcement tonight but just before the programme we had a steaming row so we decided to put it off. <Audience laughs>
6:30 TW : how many more years can you go on?
7:17 song, TW: It’s a number one in Albania. Is that what you’re going ot do now?
JT <seriously>: This was his therapy after the car crash, he was very very bored, and he felt that the only thing he could do was to sing, and that’s what we did.
(Accident in ‘Dancing on ice”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKK6c_hd9Y8 )
10:12 CD: we wont take part in the olympics because everything we do in the routine is illegal
In dance you can’t touch this part of the body, you can’t spin, you can’t do this sort of lift. IT’s stricter, more contained, it’s ice dancing. And since then we’ve gone on to hold all those bits, and do all those buts and we enjoy doing it and we don’t want to let it go of it.
Interview 1995 (with Chris being late https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PIyV1xCyKs
They’ve written a book
Host: Chris is stuck in traffic. Mind you I think you’ll be able to dine out on that
JT: I am. I’m having such a hard time. He’s always the one who’s exactly on time: saying ‘you won’t be late, you won’t be late’. If anything it’s me who’s a little bit late’
When we received the MBE he actually told me the wrong time so that I could get the earlier, so i’d be actually on time.
H: Tell him to get his skates on.
1.13 - About the book:
H: It’s a wonderful insight to .. How does it feel that, you know(raises the book) here’s my life, up till now.
JT: we often thought that, you know, this is it, we had to pout it down in writing, we tried ot be as acutrate with everyting, trying ot be as open...because you know this is an account of our lives to date. WE wanted to take time. It actually took as about a year to when we started talking about it. And w e had written a book previously but it was up until 84, and it felt like we’ve done an awful lot since then as professionals and we also wanted to talk about ourselves as people. Eveeyrone is always asking about our relationship, how that works and how we spend so much time together, what’s it like, is it like brother and sisiter or like a marriage (face). It was hard, we dont really know but we tried to speak about iti n the book to see if people can understand that a little bit more.
h: I mean the speculation about that was unbelievable at one time. You laugh about that now?
JT: Yes, at the time it was very frightening and overwhelming, we didnt understand why peopel wanted to know that, information about our private lives and we thought that people will be interested in the actual skating. At the time it was frightening but we learnt to handle it. IT woudl be like:
H: it’s this crossover between sport and show business at the end of the day.
about the book - to everyone who want to knwo truth not hte mysths.
3.30 - Chris arrives (body language)
CD: THe traffic is against us this mornign.
JT: Anyway, I’m doing fine, I’m ding fine (she sits on him to cover him up)
skating , roller blading, skiing, worried abut breaking anything
5.02 H: 1994 Winte Olympics, you put yourselves through it, you put us all thorugh it, I think the viewing fugures were as high as the royal wedding or somethign like that. HAve you ever thought, why, why are we doing this, why are we putting ourselves through this
JT: Well, I think when we stepped on for te final performance, that moment of waiting, the tension is awful
Going on competitions gives usa chance to choreograph something new. It’s nice to work on new pieces.
Late Late Show 1995 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPkBMuXUUu4
2.00 H: I noticed you’ll be perfroming in Dublin on Friday 13th, Are you peolpe  s....
CD: It’s Jayne’s choice, she likes numbers like that
JT: I like 13. Like they say ‘unlucky for some’ so..I consider it lucky myself
Yo Yo MA: celoist: Bach Cello Suite #5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF5oY-_AT3s
Allemande: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF5oY-_AT3sy
Bach wanted to meet Handel. Here’s T&D choreography to Bach.

BBC - Face The Music - The Return of Torville and Dean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF5oY-_AT3sy
Streets named after them, and Bolero Close
Honour Degrees from Nottingham University
1.15 - CD (saying a joke): What’s the definition of the intellectual’? Someone who can hear the William Tel Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger. Well let’s try this one shall we (hums Bolero)
1.35 Since then anxious questions have been prompted by (the art): surely this isnt sport. Is that art? HOw can they re-enter the Olympics.
1.48 Enter the olympics in Norway next year (1994). Their return was made possible due to the change of rules about the competing styles
2.50 They hired the ice rink (in Milton Keyns) for 4 hour a day 6 days a week to work on the stepr for Rumba and their 3 min free dance on which their comback will be judged.
3.20 CD: Each day w’d work on a section and the next day we’d double it ...then break it up again
5.00 (comments during perfecting a move)
5:35 JT: ‘We’ve used the video in the past quite a bit but we probably never used it this early on
9:03 - JT: He’s very forceful, very dominant, and if i was the same character we’d have too many clashes. But in a partnership you need somebody to be the driving force.
CD: And i think it’s part of what i do, i keep pushing. ANd ok, if i see a mistake or feel the mistake umm and if it is Jaynes Mistake, i’ll tell her. And if it’s mine I’ll tell her that she’s made a mistake too. (laughs)
JT: I’m pretty sort of easy going person, I’m very, usually placid and I need someone to fire me up, to get me going sometimes and he’s always liked it
10.45 JT: Of course I have a different rapport with Phil, my husband, when oyu meet someone you fall in love with .. there’s a magic element that attracts you to each other (Phil is a soudn engeneer from CHicago ,working with Genesis, JT tripps over the leaves - ‘I thought you’re supposed to be well coordinated’)
CD: about being in love with Jill (partner) and previous marriage break up (both ice skaters)Will you get married
11:45 CD: We knew it wouldnt work to work and be partners in live
14:52 Reneissance of dancing put back into skating (hence ‘Face The Music and Dance’)
15.00 - COMMERCIAL ASPECT: Agent / costs/ making 1 million punds if they do win, merchanduse, endorsements, very marketable comodities, they need to come back to hog the headlines
19:45 About wearing lycra and friend disapproval. You can get away with wearing anythign these days 20:30 about measuring the costume for Chris
21:10 It’s about steps and what our bodies are doing, they’re not so twisted.. its about the firs time a man to hold of a woman and started dancing wiht her instead on hi own.
22:00 Costumes from Jayne. You need to have 3 outfits. 1 for practices in character, looking like oyu could wear it. One you’re there you’re on display, on the first day of practice you need to show the judges, have all the bits right. Have flattering shape of the costume and the less material - the colder it is
22:50 - 2 ment (Chris & Trainer) talk about Jayne’s expression - storng but where did the coyness go. (and later) I love her expression when she does it. Her eyes are so big.
23:30 (during practicing) JT: Too Fast Too Fast.
CD: Don’t resist me one I started
24:!7 it’s about the presentation now: ‘it’s awkward. When I see Jayne’s arm is so stiff, looks very static to me
25:00 talking about Jayne’s impressions and directing her - how she should behave/ perform aka similar to when M instructs Nicholas in the performance.
25: 58 CD: ‘there’s a girl her who wasn’t born when we won our first championship.
JT: Really? Oh Dear.
26:25 JD: We’re really hapy wit hteh draw we got because alle the skater are doing the same pattern in the compulsory dance. It get’s like tram lines out there. Whereas the ice looks smooth to the person watching, to the person skating, it’s like getting caught on lines and other peopel’s edges - you can catch them and get into the groove and it can really throw you off balance27:20 PRACTICE/ talking about the movements, drawing the movement trajectory with a finger in the air - MOVEMENT 28:15 They create the intensity and electricity between them (29:10 Chris’ partner: Jayne is calm and Chris is nervous. That’s how it works. Because I’m in love with Chris I can tell by looking in his eyes whether the smile is forced or genuine 29:50 Applying make up, helping each other with it, trying to stay calm 32:40 MOVEMENT - Post Performance ritual
