Could we get some hc stuff for weeping? He never gets any love. Your work is amazing btw ♡
Thank you!
You know, before this I honestly kept forgetting he exists...but after doing a lore dive and doing these general hcs I'm feeling like he's going to become a favorite.
As a note for tagging, I typically use a character's human name for my blog's tagging system, but since "Joker" is a name used in so many fandoms, his will be "weeping clown x reader"
As always, if you guys like my work consider sending me a request!
Identity(V) Headcanons: Joker
Tumblr media
-The acid which scarred him was only mixed with his colored face paints. The white base he uses didn’t harm him, so the scarring he has is mostly around his mouth and down from his eyes, following the shape of the red lips and teardrops he painted on. He still wears face paint most days to try and cover what he can of the scarring, but he’s paranoid about what he uses now. He keeps his paints locked away where others can’t access them, and always tests them on his arm before using them on his face.
-Joker has very little self-worth. It goes beyond basic insecurity, though he has plenty of that as well. His entire reason for living is based on the value he has to other people. At first, that’s restricted to just the way he can bring a bit of joy to the Hullabaloo crowds, and the few shallow friendships he’d made along the way. When Margaretha entered the picture, though, it began to twist into something even more unhealthy.
-He still has some remaining love for Margaretha, but he’s more withdrawn from her. He was disfigured, he did something horrible, and she left. But if it really came down to it, and he had no one else to talk him out of it, he probably would continue going to her whenever she calls, albeit with more inner turmoil. It goes back to that self-worth again; Margaretha makes him feel like he can be a valued protector regardless of not being very physically capable.
-At his core, Joker is a very kind and sympathetic person. He cares about others, their wellbeing and happiness, and even in a world without the above self-worth struggles he would go out of his way to help people…
-But he’s become a bit jaded since the massacre. A bit angry, even. No one did anything when he was the sole victim. No one stood up for him like he stood up for others. No one cared about his disfigured face because now it matches his disfigured body, right? …but he makes himself swallow those feelings when they start to bubble over. He doesn’t want to be that person. He doesn’t want to add more cruelness to the world.
-He’s on the quiet side. I wouldn’t go so far as to call him mute, but he chooses his words very carefully. If ever he’s unsure of what to say he would rather say nothing than ramble aimlessly. When he does speak, it’s with long pauses and shifting, thinking eyes. Conversations with him tend to move at a crawl.
-He likes gentle people. Eccentric people are fun too, but he prefers gentleness if he must choose one over the other. He got along with Mike before the massacre, but events like that have a way of either cementing or shattering bonds and theirs took the latter hit. I think he’d get along well with several people in the manor, including Luca, Emma, Victor, Eli, and Helena. He’s not exceptionally close with any of them, but few people dislike his presence.
-He’s very good at telling all manner of jokes, but he rarely does anymore. That’s a development from before even the massacre; he was required to employ depreciating humor on stage, both of himself and others, and over the years it caused him to grow heavy with guilt. Now, he may shoot off a pun occasionally, but even that is rare. He really doesn’t like to be the one joking around anymore.
-He does still like doing tricks, though! They’re not his specialty, but he didn’t go all that time in the circus without picking up a thing or two. He’s more than happy to show off these skills if they entertain his friends.
-He’s really good at finding things? It’s basically a supernatural power. If you ever lose something in the manor, he’s a good bet to check in with before you tear your room apart. Honestly sometimes he just shows up to return things before someone even knows they’ve lost it.
-Joker is completely touch starved. At first glance it may seem the opposite, as he tends to move away from incoming contact, but this is only because he often doesn’t know what to expect. As far as kind touches go, he’s given more than he’s received, and always with a nervous, shaking hand. When he has some kind of relationship where contact is both safe and common, he’s attached to your hip.
-On that note, Physical Touch is the best love language for Joker. He also appreciates the other four, but touch is his favorite. He’s a very clingy partner who always wants to sit shoulder-to-shoulder or hold hands. If his partner is less than enthused about PDA, he’s okay with more subtle touches as well, such as hooking your ankles together under the dinner table. Rebuffing his desire for contact too many times can and will result in some seriously hurt feelings. A relationship between him and someone averse to touch probably wouldn’t work in the long run.

Hey! I watched the new total drama season you send I enjoyed the new season I must say
Did you enjoyed it? What is your opinions?
I really did enjoy it, but I also think it had the same flaws as the rest of the total drama series, as expected. (the danganronpa ask is sitting half completed because I got a case of the TD brainworms!)
Namely, that except for gen 2, every generation has a character whose personality is 80% fart jokes. Now, I love me a fart joke as much as any self-respecting 12 y/o boy, so its not that I don't find them funny. But I also think that a character shouldn't just be gross-out humor, and should have some other qualities to them. How does Ripper's bullying affect the goal of the game. Why is he on total drama if his main ambition in life is something else? He clearly feels insecure, but so does his designated victim. Explore that!
One take I saw floating around is that Emma and Chase's relationship is repetitive and annoying. That was the point! You aren't meant to ship them, and Bowie's thoughts on them are meant to mirror the audiences! That being said, I hope they change up the dynamic in season 2 because doing it for another season would get stale.
This is more of a personal preference than a complaint with the writing, but I found Raj's arc in this boring. "realizing you are gay because of a crush and then kissing him" is really overdone, and it felt like the main players in the Rajbow ship were Bowie and WAYNE. This isn't a bad thing, but I hope he becomes a more distinct character in season 2. Maybe Bowie can teach him game strategy and he betrays Wayne to stay in the game longer tee hee hee.
I also don't really agree with the take that Bowie is bad rep because he's a very stereotypical gay man. A lot of total drama characters are based off stereotypes, like Lindsey being the Dumb Blonde and Heather being the Mean Girl. They evolve beyond those tropes throughout the reason of the show, and we actually see that with Bowie in just the one season he was in so far! After Raj got eliminated, he did a whole bunch of plot relevant shit that didn't involve him and was a compelling character outside of his romance plot. I call that a sign of good writing, but this is total drama so who knows if it will last.
And I don't think that TD is saying all gay man are stereotypical, because we have Raj, who is very much not that. He's a dumb jock that happens to be gay, and falls into the jock stereotype more than any gay one. I really respect that writing choice.
Pryia is one of my favorite TD characters, but season 1 Court still takes the number one spot. (even if she is hanging on Hall Monitor coattails!) I adore her! She totally deserved the win.
They made Axel too much like Eva and it felt like a really missed opportunity. We already have Eva and Jo, can we have a more GNC gal character that isn't totally aggressive? I'd like that. Hopefully, she becomes more of a player in the second series?
I also wish they gave Julia a different strategy than Heather. If a character needs constant immunity to stay in the game, then maybe they deserve to leave the game at that stage. Its overdone. I also feel like Julia showed skills in turning people against each other, which could have easily been her M.O. That being said, my favorite Villain Elimination by a longshot.
I really liked the energy brought to the jokes about Zee's leg. It doesn't come up often since my hearing aid isn't too visible, but if I have the opportunity to joke about my disability, I will take it! He's probably one of my favorite disabled rep besides Toph, and I'm glad that he wasn't looked down upon by his team during challenges. He didn't struggle with any challenges, and his leg actually helped at one point!
(one time, a teacher asked in frustration if anyone was deaf in here. Saying "Yes :)" was my crowning achievement and one of the best jokes I ever made. Its not relevant, but c'mon.)
I wish he had more of a character outside of comic relief, but still!!!

Hey, there! I saw you're busy so I'm not sure when/if you'll see this and if you'd even want to fill it, but I have this idea and I'm sure you'd give it justice: what if Dirk, after seeing how quickly Ken turned away from his friendship with Bart to join Blackwing, started thinking Todd would do the same, if offered? And him being really insecure, he would believe he deserved it, too... and maybe, in some way, Todd finds out? And he's a little pissed but mostly just wants to comfort his friend
yes I want to fill it! it’s a good prompt!
~
Finding out about Ken working for Blackwing had been like a slap in the face for Dirk. Sure, he didn’t know Ken well, or at all really, after all he’d only met the man once, but he had been one of the good guys. He’d been Bart’s friend. Bart, who Blackwing had captured, just like Dirk. Bart’s friend Ken had teamed up with the people that ruined Bart’s childhood.Every time Dirk thought about it, his heart dropped into his stomach. He knew there were bad people in the world, he’d sure met his fair share of them, but he’d never thought someone could just… Turn bad? Again, he barely knew Ken, but he did know Bart, or at least he understood Bart, so seeing someone she trusted turn on her like that made Dirk feel hopeless. He felt sad for Bart. Just like Dirk, she didn’t have many people in her life. Her first real friend had betrayed her. Dirk’s heart went out for her.More selfishly, Dirk suddenly felt very unsure of himself. Had he been foolish in trusting the people he’d befriended? They were all nice people who had helped him a lot, but wasn’t that what Ken had been for Bart? Blackwing had a way of manipulating people and Dirk wasn’t exactly the easiest person to be around. What would it take for his friends to turn on him? Todd hadn’t exactly been excited about Dirk’s entrance into his life in the first place. How much of his shenanigans would be too much for Todd to handle? Would he think it’d be easier to work against Dirk instead of with him?A while ago Dirk wouldn’t have even entertained the thought. Blackwing was pure evil. Todd wasn’t. But Bart hadn’t thought Ken was either. Yet, Ken chose to betray Bart in the worst way possible. In the end, it worked more to Ken’s benefit to ditch Bart and lock her up.What did Todd really benefit from being Dirk’s friend? Nobody wanted to be in constant danger? Nobody wanted an uncertain future? Nobody wanted to spend all their time with someone who caused those things? Nobody wanted to spend all their time with someone who annoyed them?
These thoughts wouldn’t leave Dirk alone, no matter what he did. Todd and Farah didn’t seem any different since the Cardenas case. Todd was his grumpy but caring self as Farah was her guarded but kickass self. But Dirk looked at them differently. More than once he had woken up in the middle of a night from a nightmare where Todd smiled at him fondly only for his expression to turn into a chilling, evil grin as he locked Dirk in his Blackwing cell.Dirk felt lonelier than he’d ever felt. He was with his friends, but he felt completely isolated. He didn’t know who to trust and what to think. It was like he was waiting for the other shoe to drop.Which eventually resulted into a whole debacle and a very worried Todd.Dirk had fallen asleep on Todd’s couch. Dirk wasn’t one to fall asleep in places other than his bed, actually falling asleep just like that in his bed wasn’t very common for him either, but he had been very exhausted recently.Todd had just gotten a call from a client with important information about their current case and went to wake up Dirk.Which is when Dirk freaked out.“Dirk?” Todd said and went to shake Dirk. “Come on, we have to go.”In the middle of yet another dream about evil Todd, Dirk’s eyes shot open and he jumped up from the couch.“Woah, Dirk, calm down, it’s okay. We just have to go now..” Todd tried to calm him down.“No.” Dirk said in a shaky voice and stepped away from Todd.“What?” Todd questioned.“I’m not going. I’m not. Going.” Dirk responded firmly, but his hands were shaking.“What? We just need to go-““No! I won’t go back! Not even if YOU ask!” Dirk yelled.“Dirk! Calm down! Mrs. Danes called with more information about the Hello Kitty clock? We’re supposed to go check it out?” Todd explained and carefully tried to walk towards Dirk.Dirk stared at Todd. His anxiety slightly decreasing. The case. They were on a case. They were in Todd’s apartment. Todd was talking about a case. Oh god.“Case. Yes.” Dirk whispered.Todd gave him a worried look. “Are you okay?” He asked.“Fine.” Dirk replied, rather unconvincingly.“What just happened?” Todd asked.“Bad dream.” Dirk said. Todd waited for more information but none ever came.“You sure that’s all?” Todd asked. Dirk simply nodded. Todd sighed.“What did you mean by ‘even if you asked’?” Todd asked. He didn’t feel the need to ask where Dirk was afraid of going back to.“Nothing.” Dirk whispered.“Bullshit.” Todd snapped.Dirk looked down at his feet, unable to deny Todd’s accusation but refusing to explain.Todd sighed again. “I don’t wanna push you, Dirk, but… You’ve been acting weird for a while and I’ve never seen you freak out like that?” He explained.Dirk remained quiet.“Have I done something?” Todd asked.“No.” Dirk replied immediately. “Not yet.”Todd raised his eyebrows questioningly. “What?”“Nothing. Nothing.” Dirk was quick to reply.“Dirk. Talk to me. Please.” Todd pleaded.Dirk took in a deep, shaky breath.“Please… Please don’t make me go back.” Dirk whispered.Todd frowned. “Dirk… Why would I make you go back… There?” Todd asked, somewhat offended by Dirk’s implication.“Ken did.” Dirk replied.“What?” Todd asked.“Ken was Bart’s best friend. He was all Bart would talk about. She trusted him. He was all she had. And then he went and took over Blackwing. He runs Blackwing now. He’s the main bad guy. He locked Bart in Blackwing. He was her friend and he did the worst possible thing he could have done to her.” Dirk explained.Todd stood still and quiet for a while. He didn’t know what to say. His first reaction was anger. He felt it flare up all over his body. How could Dirk think he’d do something like that? Todd knew he wasn’t the best person but to force Dirk back to the place and the people that ruined his childhood? How could he even humor that idea? Before he could explode in anger like he usually did, another thought occurred to Todd.Blackwing had hurt Dirk. Hurt him bad. Physically and especially mentally. They made it so that Dirk had a hard time trusting anyone and viewed himself so terribly negatively. They messed him up.And then Ken happened. The best friend of another Blackwing victim had done the worst possible thing Dirk could think of. He had teamed up with Blackwing. The thought of Todd doing so was insane, but surely Bart didn’t expect Ken to do so either. It made perfect sense for Dirk to doubt him, to doubt everything. After everything Blackwing had put him through… After Ken, not even his friends seemed safe to be around. It all broke Todd’s heart. He walked closer to Dirk who flinched away right away.“Dirk.” He said as softly as he could. Dirk finally looked up at him.“I understand why you’re scared. What Ken did… No one saw that coming. How could we have? What he did was… Fucking terrible. I can’t imagine how Bart must feel? But Dirk… I would never and I mean EVER do that to you. I wouldn’t.” Todd explained.Dirk sniffled. “But-““No.” Todd interrupted. “I get it. I get why you’d be worried. You’ve been through hell with Blackwing, you and Bart both, and Ken’s betrayal is… Really unbelievable. But I am not Ken.” He explained.“I can’t even begin to understand the shit you’ve been through and what kind of trauma it must’ve caused but I understand enough to know that you didn’t deserve it. No one does! I would never put you through that. I may be an asshole but I’m not sadistic. Nothing they could possibly offer me would be enough to get me to do that to you. Nothing. Okay?” Todd said. “I wouldn’t do that to anyone, let alone my best friend.” He continued. “I’m your friend, Dirk. And I know, Ken was Bart’s too, but they’re not us. We’re… We’re real, okay? I promise. I’d sooner have a pararibulitis attack for 24 hours straight than put you through Blackwing again. It hurts me to think what they did to you, I couldn’t live with myself if I was the cause of that. I promise, Dirk, you’re safe with me. I know you haven’t felt safe in a long time, but I promise, I will make sure you feel safe again. Eventually.” Todd finished.Dirk stood completely still for a moment before bursting into tears. Todd took the last remaining steps between them and Dirk basically collapsed into his arms.“It’s okay.” Todd whispered and rubbed Dirk’s back. “You’ll be okay.”Dirk sobbed out something that sounded like ‘how could he’ and ‘poor Bart’ before continuing to softly cry into Todd’s shirt, holding firmly onto Todd’s shoulders.Todd held his friend and prayed that his pain would fade. If not with Todd’s reassurance, at least with time. Right now, he wanted nothing more than for Dirk to be okay. He knew Dirk had suffered, he knew he was broken, but nothing hurt more than knowing Dirk felt so alone and unsure even around Todd. He promised himself he’d do his best to show Dirk that he was there for him.Todd’s thoughts turned to Bart. She had no one. She was in Blackwing. Put there by her friend. Todd’s blood boiled. Everyone in Blackwing was rotten to the core. And now Ken was one of them, despite knowing what they did to their ‘projects’?Todd wanted to burn Blackwing to the ground. But for now, his priority was Dirk. He would convince Dirk of where his loyalties lied and eventually, they’d take Blackwing down.Together.

Hi! So, i'm gonna do the thing: i'm going to battle through the fog of fear and take on a Jason centric batsemble fic and since your batmfam is my favorite rendition i was hoping you might have some hefty characterization tips for writing the rest of the batkids? Specifically Dick, Damian, Cass & Tim and of course the Batdad. Anything you've got to offer would be greatly appreciated!
Oh my. Well first of all, congrats on your new undertaking! Character interpretations are very subjective, but I’ll tell you some basic points that I personally keep in mind.
Dick: Something fandom often forgets is that Dick is a lot like Bruce. He’s incredibly responsible and very occupied with the Mission. He’s far better adjusted when it comes to his parents’ tragedy, so it’s not so much about fighting back the bad in the world but about protecting the good. Dick is what Bruce is most proud of in his life; he’s canonically  Batman’s heir as the world’s second best detective as well as Bruce Wayne’s legal heir for the company.
Fandom often turns him into a goofball or a ditz or someone who is extremely easygoing, and that is inaccurate. Dick’s chatty and tries to pick up Bruce’s slack in terms of emotional labor in the family, but that doesn’t mean he’s not incredibly serious about the work he does. Speaking of emotional labor, he will try to be there for people but does not like it when others try to draw attention to his own insecurities. His temper is cosmic and he will go for the throat if it means getting someone to drop an issue.
Damian: I am perpetually side-eyeing the jerk sue direction DC has started to take Damian in. I’ve made posts about Damian’s character here and here but the gist is that he’s still a kid; he’s in a constant process of learning new things and unlearning old ones. He’s proud but has insecurities, educated beyond his years but not a genius, wants approval but his social skills are incredibly terrible, is a bit spoiled/sheltered but gaining more practical life experience everyday. He shouldn’t be leading his own team imo, but working under a mentor and being guided through all these changes he’s going through.
Cass: Fandom likes to claim that Cass is some pillar of perfection, and it’s so not true. She’s a complex and nuanced character, not this dutiful, loyal, stoic asian daughter archetype. There have been many times she’s chafed under Bruce’s overbearing ways and rebelled/given him grief. She’s far more expressive, emotive and mischievous than fandom gives credit.
Cass makes mistakes. She acts on impulses. She defaults to violence in ways that are very understandable and shouldn’t be erased. She also understandably doesn’t like being controlled or confined. Her ability to read body language does not substitute social skills and she can have a hard time realizing that her loved ones (notably Babs and Bruce) can be wrong - if she reads that Barbara is upset about Dick, then bam that’s all she needs to know and she’ll throw Dick out a window. If she reads that Bruce believes it when he says Jason and Steph were too reckless to be vigilantes, then she can’t discern between truth and Bruce’s truth.
But she also loves hard and works hard and is completely dedicated to helping others. Bruce has pretty much usurped Cain as father figure, and Cass has replaced Cain’s philosophy with Batman’s. But Cass also considers Barbara her mother figure, so Bruce and Babs should be depicted as basically having shared custody of her.
Tim: Ookay so people here know that I am not happy with the way DC handled Tim. His origin is built on classism and victim blaming and I’ve got Opinions on it. But a main thing that I like to emphasize is that Tim is a very hard worker; he’s not a natural athlete but he puts in the time and effort.
A lot of the time Tim seems to be out-of-sync with other people’s social cues or emotions. He also has the tendency to fixate and obsess over specific concepts, and there are many instances of him doing things that are hurtful or cross boundaries, with seemingly no idea he’s doing it or the severity of his actions (cheating on Ariana, trying to clone Kon, the debacle with Tam and her dad, etc).
Tim is not an academic! He hated school and was happy to drop out. He’s a great researcher that is capable of parsing important details from large amounts of information, good at pattern recognition and skilled with technology. He’s like Barbara in that he’s highly valuable to have as mission support, but he’s not going to any fancy universities nor would he want to. He’s also not interested in corporate (he dreaded helping his father with Drake Industries, and his role in Wayne Enterprises was isolated to an offshoot charity project). He’s a nerd and a slob (seriously have you seen how he lives?) who cares most about his vigilante work.
Bruce: The thing about Bruce is that he’s a man of action, not words. Meaning he will show he cares through gestures, but then he won’t explain those gestures, leading to a mess of misunderstanding as people try to figure him out. He often does not do this on purpose. Miscommunication is a driving force behind most of the batfam conflict where he’s concerned.
Ever since Jason died Bruce changed, becoming the paranoid and constantly vigilant mess we know today. Bruce can be an overbearing ‘my way or the highway’ person, to no one’s surprise. He’s always been a control freak, but that took it up to eleven. He loves his family but demands their obedience so that he can eliminate risk factors to their wellbeing. He’s an anxious man with the stubbornness of a thousand mules. His coping skills are terrible and often self-destructive or self-sabotaging in some way.
But he does also have a sense of humor, can be ridiculously dramatic and Extra, and doesn’t take himself totally seriously (he’s dressed like a giant rodent ffs) despite how stoic he is. He goes overboard with his Mission, but family is incredibly important to him - his parents’ deaths are what began his journey, and his kids are a huge part of its continuation. Bruce is just kinda inept at expressing it.

So I was waiting for you to check out all the recs people left but I see you've been sucked in your past love. Should I try it? I'm a bit intimidated by the # of seasons honestly. On the other hand I do love pain so there is that. Also what with all the spinoffs? -intimidated anon
CSI is an immense universe but don’t worry about the spinoffs for now, anon. They are separate shows and you don’t have to be familiar w/ all to enjoy one.
CSI has one episode (222) that also serves as a backdoor pilot for CSI: Miami + Grissom crosses over to Without a Trace (another excellent show btw) for one episode (WaT 606) to conclude an investigation they start on CSI 806, and that’s about it. There was also a Trilogy event involving all 3 CSI teams (Las Vegas, Miami, New York) working one case together on 3 separate nights (a really cool move), but it took place after Grissom and Sara’s departure, so my memories of it are a bit faded. Anyway, if you decide to plunge in, just focus on the original. It will be plenty in itself ;)
As for the relationship in question, if pain is what you love, you have to experience this. GSR is a slowburn hell w/ specs of fluff and humor; it’s the kind of angst that flows naturally - and in abundance - from the two characters involved. Both are highly intelligent, workaholic, socially awkward, self-torturing loners prone to the kind of dark, depressive and disassociating phases that don’t magically disappear when they are together. Falling in love seems to trigger a flood of pain for both since (originally) neither of them is equipped to thrive in a relationship, but they are not willing to let each other go either. Cue Teh Angst. Grissom is plagued by insecurities (aging, isolation, health, etc issues - some even say he has a mild case of autism which has some merit imo) and terrified/paralyzed by his feelings to the point that he even (briefly) identifies w/ a doctor who snaps and brutally murders when he gets dumped for a younger man. And Sara starts self-destructing in the wake of his agonizing fence-sitting and also due to repeatedly identifying w/ victims of abuse they investigate. Love is - surprisingly realistically - not a cure-all here; it is a catalyst for some ugly things and a painful transformation process (see e.g. the butterfly imagery that keeps popping up or Grissom gifting Sara a cocoon, etc), but their ongoing struggle and search to find a way to fit together w/o suffocating each other makes the final pay-off the sweetest and most beautiful.
In short, if this ‘ship were a song, it would be a mashup of U2′s “With or Without You” and Potter Puppet Pals’ “Wizard Angst.” Sort of.
CSI, however, is first and foremost a crime procedural that deals w/ heavy topics ranging from torture and rape to cannibalism and pedophilia w/ plenty of blood and gore thrown in. While it is not as dark/oppressing as e.g. Criminal Minds (to pick another network example), I still wouldn’t recommend binging it in earnest if you are sensitive to these subjects/images bc you will burn out fast. But it is a great show w/ excellent characters, thought-provoking cases that often bleed into/comment on the character’s personal lives, and GSR is still one of the mightiest of OTPs. If you take a look at the credits, you can find several women among those in charge of the creative process and the writing itself, which I believe to be the main reason behind the mature and often critical way relationships of every kind are explored and evaluated.
I say give it a try, anon. Take breaks if it starts to get too much, there’s no shame in that. In fact, it will “sit better” w/ you if you pace yourself, imo. And if you stick with it, I think it will be ultimately rewarding. It’s one of the v few shows that made me cry like a baby on multiple occasions, so don’t be fooled by the cold procedural aspect: the characters will get to you soon enough.
