Hey Poorni, I mostly just lurk here but sometimes check in with your account and am always blown away by how quickly and drastically you change your mind on so many people and ships! Like on a Wednesday you'll post several times about a pair being a notp and by Thursday you're praising them as an otp and reblogging them constantly and then by Friday or Saturday you're disliking them again lol. For example, you've gone from going on about how much you hate Neia to suddenly calling them an OTP lol. A few weeks ago you didn't like Zaya at all and now they're like your biggest OTP ever. You liked Kitty and then hated her more than anyone I'd ever seen and then will swing back to liking her. And so on. We all change our minds about some ships and characters, and it's great to have an open mind. I'm just curious what causes you to go from hate to love to hate to love again on so many characters and ships so quickly---is it based on rewatches, reading other people's metas, Or do you just kind of wake up feeling totally different than you did the day before? You can ignore if you want to, I'm just always into learning about what makes fans tick, and you changing your opinions so frequently interests me!

First of all, I love long asks so ty for sending this haha!

Secondly, I wouldn't exactly saying that my love for characters and ships change day by day. It's actually the opposite most of the time where it's very drastic.

Like with Kitty, as a kid I liked her but then I saw a few threads on her and I was like 'ok she is kind of annoying when I think about it'. Then rewatching at like 16-17 (i think 17 tbh), she's very irritating and I feel like she's glorified WAY too much (especially in t7s). So then I started having more complex feelings but then after a few more discussions with my friend Sunshine and rewatches, Kitty is actually pretty fucking annoying. She babies Eric and literally never sees him as an adult, slut shames Donna for having sex with Eric and seems to think Donna "corrupts" him. And don't even get me started on how shitty she treats Laurie. I know Laurie is far from perfect, but no one deserves to have to hear their own mother say 'i love you because I have to' and 'Rosemary made a better baby than me'.

It sounds like I'm overreacting but honestly idc. Kitty is not this sweet little good cop to Red's bad cop and she sure as hell didn't have any "character assassination" like Jackie, Kelso, and even Eric did in T9S.

With Zaya, I really loved them as a kid but then hated them because of the shit Zig would pull on Maya. When I did come back to the fandom for good, I had moreso complicated feelings where they're pretty toxic but they can be good together and I'm glad they're endgame. And then I started looking at more Zaya stuff (mostly from Ashton haha) doing rewatches, which made me go back to loving them full force. I still have love for Matlingsworth, Camaya, Zori, and find Zesme interesting at times, but I love Zaya a lot too and I'm glad they're endgame.

As for Neia, I don't think I had much of an opinion on my first watch. I might've been annoyed by them. But I did prefer Jeia over everything. And when I got to Tumblr and did more rewatches, read fics and all that, I was really just done with Neia. My main issue with them has always been how they fucked over Nikki and don't even get me started on how ooc Gwen's advice to Leia was on handling that shit. Plus I didn't see any substance with them aside from having the same wants. Then I ended up being moreso fascinated by the idea of Neia crashing and burning, leading to a Jeia/Geia endgame.

There was a short period where I really wanted to be more open minded with Neia, so I tried looking at the more shippy stuff but I just couldn't do it haha. But eventually I tried again, hence me shipping them now.

Don't get me wrong, my issues with canon Neia are still there. Especially the substance parts, but I personally blame that on the writing more. For all Lindsey's claims of loving Neia, she sure doesn't act like she loves them. Until the 9th episode, they didn't have any alone time. Which, by a writing person, doesn't make sense because Leia is canonically best friends with Nate's sister AND in the dame friend groupl. Not to mention, Leia dated Nate's best friend, yet they don't interact one on one till the NINTH episode? Not even like them accidentally bumping into each other. Like come on!

Short answer: Metas, rewatches, (rarely) discussions, etc.

Who do you think will be endgame Neia or Jeia?

With the way the show is written, obviously Jeia. @charlieconwayy has a meta talking about this. Not to mention the parallels to Formciotti, a canonically married couple. I have a whole tag for that if you wanna check that out.

But at the same thing, Lindsey Turner (one of the writers) is clearly a Neia fangirl who highlighted Neia’s “natural connection” while reducing Jeia to “lust” (which is crazy to me considering that she WROTE The Birthday Girl, where Jeia’s emotional connection is shown a good amount):

So honestly I don’t know which’ll be endgame. But if Jeia doesn’t end up together, I will gladly be happy with a Geia endgame.

T9S Gang; Poly Ship version (how they happen & what they’re like)

Niknate: It’d be the same, with Nate making the first move and Nikki turning down a senior for him. But their relationship would be more like their pre-The Rave self. Nate would sometimes have a hard time dating someone who’s as ambitious as Nikki, but just wants to make her happy. He’d be able to remember something as simple as remembering how to spell Nikki’s name and they would be a lot more than just lust. I’d capitalize on the “smart girl/jock” thing because I love that trope. They break up briefly but get back together almost immediately.

Neia: They’d bond over their similar wants in the beginning (as friends) and would eventually develop more common ground and see what they like about each other. Nikki wouldn’t be (as) disrespected in the process. Both are hesitant because they are truly in love with their partners, but want to give it a try with each other (polyamory was something neither of them thought of at the time). Eventually they’d come clean and give it a try.

Nikkeia: Nikki would ask Leia to meet with her one day. Leia is initially nervous, since she and Nate did almost have a moment while he was dating Nikki. But Nikki ended up saying that she wanted Leia too and propositioned Nate to stay with her and be with Leia. And that she and Leia could be a thing too. Leia was hesitant but ended up giving it a try. As a couple, they bond over their love for certain subjects in school along with relationships and just anything in general.

Janate: Nate (and Leia) would feel bad about Jay and want to see him. One day, when Nate comes to their dorm, he catches Jay sleeping with Nikki (during Niknate’s brief break up). Nate gets jealous because of his want for Nikki, but also Jay as well. A fight between him and Jay leads to them hooking up and being honest. From there on, they’re together. As a couple, they are a lot similar to back when they were just “best friends”, except they call each other ‘babe’ instead of ‘bro’ and are intimate (kissing, sex, etc.)

Jikki: Nikki starts off with one hookup with Jay as a way to initially get back at N-ia while Jay just wants to move on. Eventually they continue it and stay friends but still hookup. They don’t have any romantic feelings for one another and don’t want to date, but they enjoy having sex with one another.

Gwikki: Gwen would still be coming to terms with her sexuality (she’s a lesbian here). She knows her moms will be fine with it but is hesitant about telling her dad. She accepts being a lesbian but is also…not super experienced when it comes to girls (she sleeps with one girl at fifteen but that’s it). Nikki is bi here, but at first she thought she was a lesbian because her first crush ever was a girl. She’s slept with and had dated boys and girls, so she has some experience. Gwen and Nikki hate each other for the longest time but do find each other really hot. One day they have a little bonding moment just like in Step by Step. They agree it won’t happen again and that it won’t be spoken of. They still end up bumping into each other and Gwen’s feelings for Nikki only sky rocket. She ends up writing in her diary about her feelings for Nikki and Leia. One day they bump into each other, the book falls out, Nikki sees it, Gwen gets flustered, they have sex, etc.

I’ve repeatedly talked in detail about what they’d be like a couple so I’m not gonna repeat any points.

Geia: She’s developed feelings for Leia ever since their first kiss at 12 years old (Leia was her lesbian awakening). Thinking she’s straight and believing she only wants Jay, Gwen doesn’t do anything. She talks about it with Ozzie but that’s it. Leia also feels the same way but also has them for Jay too. It comes to a boiling point for when Leia is with Nate and then sleeping with Nikki. Leia also gets jealous seeing Nikki and Gwen together because she wants Gwen too. Nikki sets up an intervention for Geia, leading them to get together too.

As a couple, they’re a lot similar to how they were when just “friends”, except they also kiss and make love.

Jeia: One day, Jay and Leia would bump into each other. At that point, Leia would already be with Nate, Nikki, and Gwen whole Jay would be with Nate and sleeping with Nikki. It’d be a little awkward at first because despite dating and sleeping with some of the same people, they’re still exes. Eventually they end up having a good conversation.

The feelings are still there but both of them are hesitant. They try to use the “dating other people” thing as a reason but they’re all cool with it lmao. Eventually they run out of excuses and decide to have a mature conversation. From there on they stay together.

As a couple, they’re very affectionate and “mom and dad” of the gang. They love to cuddle, watch tv, and just hang out.

Since you said you're always in the mood to talk about fandoms.... What are your three Jay x Leia scenes of the series so far? The birthday climbing through the window scene and their head-on-shoulder drive are probably at the top of my list. In what ways do you think Leia is like Donna? We all know the ways she's like Eric, and I personally love that about her! And will you hate me if I admit that I actually like Nate? There's a genuine sweetness about him to me. I'm one of those weirdos who shipped Leia with Jay, Gwen and Nate all at different points in the series!

Top Three Jeia Scenes

1. “I will spend every day making it up to you.” This scene was just so 🥰🥰🥰. They have to be endgame.

2. Their first kiss on Leia’s birthday and the way she was laying on Jay’s shoulder in the car.

3. Their picnic in DDB and the way Jay put his arm around her!!!

And with the Leia/Donna similarities, they’re both very kind, practical people. Plus neither of them seem to like Star Wars lol.

I’d never hate you bby! You’re too sweet! And I do like Nate. He is really kind and funny and I like his dynamic with Jay. I just think he’s a bad bf to Nikki lol. And you’re not a weirdo (and if, it’s in the best way like all of us lol)

It’s really nice to see more jeia shippers in the fandom. I rarely see any on here which makes me :(

I’m not a huge geia fan. I’ve talked about my feelings about them on here before but I do like the idea of them being each other’s first kisses and bi awakenings (which they are). I even wrote a fic on ao3 called Cherry Lips which includes geia’s first kiss.

I don’t wanna be too negative but I’m not a fan of neia personally. I’ll just keep it as short as Nikki deserves better.
