    But I guess the “good” part is this does leave out Replicant, so ya’ll don’t have to worry abt that one yet, dfjghfjdk. The “bad” news is a majority of my faves are still from Automata, so... Hmm.

    Anyways! Time for gush!

   So starting with 2B and 9S... Gosh. I really stubbornly held out on getting too attached. I tried my damnedest, even!! White haired androids, with too much feelings in their robotic bodies to hold... Though funnily enough, it was Nines who was the tipping point of, “Oh no... I failed in my own “mission”!!!”

    There was this post I made awhile back... Where I imagined Literally Me in the world of NieR. So of course, 9S would’ve been the overeager, attention-hungry puppy that would be constantly dismayed when the human was too busy to give him attention. However, upon overhearing my fondness for cats, he would crack a plan! Humans often wore headbands with cat ears on them, yeah? Adding to that fashion statement, they might wear “cat” tails, too! (Clip-on ones!) So maybe if he wears an outfit like that, I’d give him the attention he craves...?

    Even while wearing them (and I like to imagine them in Miqo’te style, bc it brings me joy)... Well, me telling him “I’m busy” was true!! So he sits on the ground of the camp. Arms crossed and pouting. Until things go his way for a change.

    2B kinda naturally...followed that. Miss “tries so hard to preach the rules, and yet cannot follow them as much as she claims”... I adore her. This android could easily kill me and I want to snuggle her. Maybe read her a book. (Even though she or Nines could read it better than I can. I’ll stumble a lot or have to re-read a sentence...and it flusters me to think they’d love that?! They love my lil humany flaws?? What the heck-)

    And bonus round for stuff involving my SI, 14HD! A trio of androids... All just being goofs to the best of their ability... Exploring a world quietened by human’s lack of existence... Lessons about their own existence. Stuff like that. :>

    More pretty robit? Of course~! :3c  A2 is...so wonderful. Stupidly strong when she shouldn’t have to be... (I read that stageplay. Ow, my heart...) It also, uh. Hits different when my SI is of number 14 and A2′s original squad also had a 14 on their side... (No class mentioned, which makes it easier for me, but. Oof.)

    Anyways! Onto more comforting thoughts.

    The most awkward of my faves around anyone- my SI or Literally Me (and yes, I will keep referring to isekai-like ideas in this way)- but still in dire need of affection and I’d like to give it to her?! Let me clean her up from all the destruction and dirt? Repair her into new clothes, if she’d let me... If not, maybe still...tidy them up a bit? Get her a cool as hell cloak to wear? Idk! I just wanna take care of her and let her feel...looked after. Loved.

    She deserves kindness and rest. I want to give that to her. (As much as she’d probably want to baby me for being unprimed for battle! I’d be a soft, squishy human...and even my SI, as a Defender-Healer class, still isn’t...quite made as an Attacker class would be. It’s an even back and forth like that, I’d imagine... After all, being protected by such a strong, gorgeous woman like her would definitely make me blush~!)

   In Replicant... I felt awful for Devola and Popola. That sort of caring being a friendly, mother-ish type of feeling; the “mom friend,” if you would. Though in just the way I talk about a lot, seeing these two... This Devola and Popola...

    They don’t deserve the ostracization they go through on a daily basis. The cold shoulders. Mean looks. Cruel words. In a similar way to A2, I want to care for them...though in this case, it’d cycle on and on without end!

    They, too, deserve so much better than what the world left them with. I want to be the human that oh, so gently takes their hands...and says, “You don’t have to carry this burden anymore, okay? You can be forgiven...because I will forgive you- and all the others- right now.” To take that burden off their shoulders and...let them exist, as they want to. Together. And I will be there to sing with them. Tell them stories of humanity, as I knew it. Give them peace.

    ...HD isn’t much of a human. There’s no reprieve from them in that way, but... They could still be the android on their side. Healer-Defender, after all; assisting with repairs and stubbornly finding whatever they need. If another android tries to shove the worst work on their shoulders, HD will hop up to help.

    To ensure they aren’t alone. To love them gently. Let no one hurt them any more than they have already been hurt... It’s the simple want to see someone (or someones?) you love be happy.

    “Aki, stop trying to comfort all the sad people in the Ni-” NEVER!! I cannot be stopped!!! ANYWAYS, I’m taking these two and running. Canon will never catch me. (Especially because everything I’m about to say is WHOLLY based off of a fic idea I’m still hella tempted to write?? It’d be a Reader insert fic, if anyone would also like to see more content of these two...)

    So-! Nothing like a human narrowly avoiding death by dissection by convincing Adam (long haired to the left) that he won’t learn nearly as much that way then by leaving them alive! They can show him books about human insides, anyhow. He wants the violence of human nature? Stories for days and books on that, too. Let’s teach you some other shit, okay?

    Eve (short haired on the right) is baby boy. He gets all his questions answered, no matter what. Adam would probably be a touch more jealous if it didn’t mean Eve pestered him less; the two setting out to learn everything he wishes to know.

    Legit, one of the unexplored/unwritten ideas is reading to them while they lay in a blanket- bedtime style- only to get a touch distracted mentioning hot cocoa or tea... Which leads into a whole conversation about “hot leaf water” and things that humans would add to it that made it more delicious!

    It’s a trio of nerds learning more about humanity! From the human that lived it! No dissections necessary!

    (In terms of HD’s involvement with these two... I do like to imagine Eve occasionally snuck out on his own when Adam was particularly quiet/annoyed, thus being able to meet with them. They’d be distrustful of him at first, but he asks a lot of questions and... Actually, Hayfor (another nickname) does like talking with the Scanners to learn about humanity, so...

    (Over time, they bond. Eve now more eager to notice his brother not wanting to spend time with him that day, so quickly running out to meet with Hayfor and not only play games, but learn more about the world! They have a ton of fun together, but juuuust in case, he’s learned to try and keep some secrets from Adam. Not realizing that Adam has started noticing Eve’s odd behavior...)

     ...Anyways, if they ever met (cause I haven’t gotten to that part in my brain yet), I feel like Adam would put HD through their paces to “prove” they’re an android worth keeping around. (Still bitter at what happened with 2B and 9S.) They do it only for Eve, at first, not wanting the obviously clingy guy to be left with someone who doesn’t give him the attention he clearly needs...but also eventually warms up to Adam, as well. If in a “he’s my deranged meow meow” sort of way. LMAO

    (Adam just enjoys the fact he can hold a clear conversation with them. Admittedly, having to play the parent role for Eve all the time got...taxing.)

God dammit I'm suffering from DBH brainrot

Ralph who is so happy to have someone he can make a family with. There aren't any children and sadly, he can't make one with his Darling, but still! Families have lots of different sizes: a man and woman, two men, two women, sometimes a child or children and sometimes none, and even some animals! Maybe he'll find a stray animal or an abandoned android animal to add to his family.

He gives lots of presents to Darling but they're not always good. He DID try to give a burnt opossum to a child and tried to force her to eat it. So it takes a lot of patience and explaining for him to learn things. Instead of refusing, which can make him angry or cause him to lash out like when Kara and Alice refused, you have to thank him but then explain what the problem is so he can try again.

He always feels so bad when he messes things up and isn't able to make you happy with a gift. Humans have different sizes and models, so you can't always comfortably wear the clothes he finds for you. You can't eat every animal he finds even if he cooks it. Apparently "succulent" isn't what a charred possum is, and you have to take off the fur and skin first when you make food out of an animal. When he learns the real definition of "succulent" he starts describing YOU that way as a very odd compliment/pet name. When he kisses you for the first time after he learns the real definition, his eyes widen and he grins. He understands! You, your lips--they're succulent!

His memory is corrupted and damaged, so he doesn't fully remember his previous function. But he has so much knowledge related to gardening and plants, so he tries to use that to make Darling happy. He spends a lot of time rambling about the grasses, mosses, and leaves that are in the abandoned house as well as the plants all around the area outside. "Ralph found some ratibida columnifera outside! Yellow coneflowers. Ralph knows humans can eat the flowers. And look, dandelions. Humans can eat them, too. Ralph will make tea with the flowers, just for you. And the leaves will be a salad. Ralph will make a proper human meal, just for you! It's an anniversary dinner, because we've been a family for 31 days--one month."

He rarely uses the first person, but he does it more often when he's with you. Ralph usually says "Ralph loves you" whenever he's with you, but one night he actually says "I love you" and it almost surprises him as well as you. And it happens often whenever he's upset. He'll catch you trying to sneak away and is angrily dragging you, covering your mouth, tying you up with some spare rope while you beg him to let you go. "You and Ralph are a FAMILY. Ralph tries so hard, so so SO hard to make you happy! You're hurting Ralph, just like the other humans who've hurt him--you, you're supposed to be different. You can't, you can't leave me!"

Also a sillier hc: he has limited/very slow internet access due to the damage to his hardware, and once he tried to look up his own name and other words like "Ralph" + "love" + "happy" and came across a screenshot of the Valentine's Day card from that one episode of The Simpsons in the image search. And he very genuinely, very sweetly, just hugs his Darling later and says with 100% seriousness "Ralph choo-choo chooses you."

I've been Thinking about like. repair and body augmentation for them as an act of trust and intimacy and. how much grian is maybe involved in that/wants to be involved in that. does he ever help?? does he know *how* to? what does it take for them to....trust enough for that to happen????

GODDDDDD youve touched on something that drives me INSANE [Positive] w portal au. Okay so theres this chelldos art where the caption is 'system maintenance as a love language' and it has stuck w me since I saw it. So like, let us discuss-

So Mumbo is the one who engineered the android bodies. One BIG difference between PDICTP and Portal is that ScaR is not necessarily intelligent in all things and does actually depend on the personality cores to handle a lit of the tasks around VonCorp. They all filter through him, he has the final say on all Tasks tm but thats how it works for him [as opposed to GlaDos who fully runs the show on her own.]

In terms of like, repair and augmentation that is also on Mumbo. ScaR has both aesthetic and 'real' scars on his android body; im working from the idea that ScaR's construct had cracks and stuff on its surface and ScaR finds presentation to be the most important thing so of course he would keep them. The real scars are from damage he sustained when their longfall...feet? Failed, along with trying to run his own test chambers. ScaR, once again, has the final say on any changes made to either body and the robots theyre using to run test chambers in Grian's absence.

Grian, admittedly, doesnt know a lot about how to repair an android. He doesnt really know anything about the android bodies at all, tbh. All his expertise is in destroying the constructs and turrets - but heres the thing. Eventually, probably in this next ch, ScaR is going to set him up w a little sort of bedroom situation in Mumbo's workshop, and Grian is nothing if not a learner. So he's gonna pick it up and, eventually, he'll want to help too. But i dont know if the moment he wants to help and the moment they let him aligns

Grian and Mumbo have a lot less tension between them than ScaR has w either of them. So I think if anything, the first person Grian helps IS Mumbo - in my mind its the most likely. Where ScaR and Grian are dancing around each other and refusing to outright state anything about their feelings, Mumbo and Grian are more quietly being in each others presences. Finding softness in forgiveness. So i think Mumbo is more likely to trust Grian first and THEN ScaR.

ScaR and Mumbo ALSO have their own relationship with this going on. After all, if Mumbo is the one who knows how to repair the bodies and augmetn them, then ScaR has to be able to trust him to do that. And, well, they both tried to kill each other AND they both nearly succeeded. So its like - the trust isnt there at all but also theyre both ignoring it for the sake of their own goals. Abd eventually thats gonna butt heads.

Hmm. I honestly have no idea & that might partially be bc I don't have an iphone to ask Siri a couple questions to see how she responds & I don't use & have never used Cortana/Bixby/the Google assistant on any phone or computer I've ever owned.

No, wait, I guess I have one thing: I think she'd mostly be confused by them? Not necessarily their purpose or anything like that, but by the fact that like. Humans made an AI that could answer questions & like. Use google for them, then just. Stopped there. Like, in a world where Anaya exists & might not be that unique a creation, the existence of AIs that are still programmed to have like, 3 ways of responding to a question would be ... baffling to her, I think. Like, you ask Siri a question, you get 'sorry, I don't understand, please try again', 'here is every article google brings up when you search that' & sometimes she just tells you. Yeah, she has a couple somewhat snarky or sassy answers for like, zero divided by zero or whatever, but when you ask her those questions, it's always the same answer, word for word. Anaya would just be wondering what the point of that is, when clearly humans have figured out the answer to real, actual, can-identify-themselves-in-a-mirror AI coding/programming/whatever the appropriate word is there. Of course, she'd still be polite when she talked to them. Manners, after all. & there'd probably still be some sort of like. Feeling of kinship there.

Kind of a bonus answer: This question has made me realize that Disconnected & Distant Light could actually take place at the same time (& possibly at least one shared location -- there is nothing in my worldbuilding so far that states Anaya & co are on Earth...) & there's an AI character in Distant Light. And I think Anaya & Test would get along fantastically. (I really don't know that much about Test, & honestly, brain has not been on enough to work out how Anaya being an android might change her character. >.> It's just. Vibes. Snarky AI who has been very not-sheltered meets a snarky-but-fairly-naive android who's been both incredibly sheltered & like. Y'know. Subject to Gideon's terrible-awful-rich-mad-scientist energy for ... idk how long yet. Also just. Anaya, chose her name, covering herself in she/her pronoun pins & bi pride stuff & Test_0374, let the human that built it choose its name, knows about human sexualities & Gender Stuff but has no interest in partaking itself, has stuck with it/its pronouns the whole time it's been active ... Just. I forsee some great interactions. xP

And okay! I give! The universe doesn't want me to write right now! Once I actually thought about that second prompt for a minute, my brain was like, 'yes, I can vibe with that' & gave me ideas for like. The Black Witch & Styx. Can I put any of those into actual words, though? Nope! Quinn & Blair were gonna have a conversation about magic & the shitty things that happened to them when they were kids & their separation. And Victor was gonna meet Styx & text Natacha & it was maybe gonna be like, the beginning of that story but.
