I see a lot of breeders have strict spay/neuter contracts for ALL their puppies, brag about having only 2 litters in 15 years, and some saying they don't breed for show/work quality just pets. How can someone do a breed any favor if they're not advancing the breed any further? If they alter every puppy out the door then they're not producing upstanding examples of a breed to begin with. What brings up my question was an article I read today called "Breeders, why are we so anti breeding now?"

I saw that going around but haven’t had a chance to read it  yet. I’ll try to tomorrow, as I’m reading this far too late at night!

I’ve met people who speak in this manner, and I can’t help but wonder if they say/do it to get approval from people who are more antibreeder? Because I remember, in my more rescue heavy days, things would be said like “Good breeders spay/neuter all of their animals and rarely have litters.”

Which obviously, as noted, is not actually realistic and not necessarily beneficial to the animals.
