So I'm playing Kiwami 2 rn and you know what pisses me off? The fact that they made Kiryu all worried about Sayama who's essentially a stranger to him at this point (not to mention a fucking COP at that) and made him pick her up when she got dizzy and shit because they wanted to set up romance between them or whatever WHEN in kiwami they literally added in that fucking pier scene where Majima gets shot in the fucking gut and pummeles down into Tokyo Bay and Kiryu just fucking LEAVES HIM THERE LIKE???!?!?!?!?!?!?! Were they afraid that Kiryu rescuing Majima and cradling him in his arms was gonna look gay as fuck???? Otherwise it just doesn't make sense (not to the story, not to Kiryu's character).

i love writing but im burdened by a chronic state of "He Would Not Fucking Say That" where i need to keep things as close to character as possible and it makes pre-canon content so difficult sometimes. especially when a character's only been around for like. a small part of the series to begin with like i need to build an entire case file on him first.

UGH daigo who pretends to wanna see strip shows and go drinking as a 12 year old because he knows everyone around him isn't cool with him being a kid, so he tries to be less lame, to be more convenient. yeah, you can take me anywhere. in fact, you have to. i'll show you just how grown i am.
daigo who sheaths himself in black clothes, all bark and some bite, all dark and mysterious. all touch me and you'll get burned. playing hard to get. not that he doesn't want to be alone, but he sure as hell doesn't want to be lonely. and for that people have to like him. want to follow him. he's got to be a magnet. leave me alone, i'm not worth your time. so whoever picked him up from the gutter would really have to want him.
daigo who struggles to get his men in line as sixth chairman. daigo who only took the job because kiryu finally needed him. daigo who's never as good as the fourth chairman (who retired after a day, who never had to be chairman). daigo who never holds that against kiryu.
daigo who does what needs to be done, daigo who makes impossible decisions. daigo who rises to the occasion and swears in, daigo determined to be a better man than sohei ever was. daigo who sees the clan as his family, and tries to protect everyone in it. daigo who refuses to screw over kiryu's new family, and daigo who is shot for it. daigo who keeps the clan from tearing each other apart, whose absence brings out the worst in them. daigo who wakes up from a coma and saves kiryu and mine, daigo who comforts mine after, unable to even sit up properly. daigo who takes on a whole baseball team to protect his high school baseball team, daigo who's expelled and thrown in juvie for it. daigo who takes the hit because he knows he'll be yakuza someday anyway. daigo who protects his city. daigo who protects his men. daigo who works a way to offer his broke high school buddy millions of yen and another chance at his dream into his plans. daigo who shows his enemies mercy, daigo who rushes out injured to save the people who've helped him. daigo who tries to get kiryu off charges, who tries to push him to stay with his new family. daigo who loves his father fiercely, daigo who can be relied on. daigo who takes care of people.
daigo who kiryu gives the guidance he needs. daigo who kiryu pulls from depression, daigo who kiryu comes to rescue. majima comes back to the yakuza for, and kiryu who makes him, so he's not alone. daigo who shows mine what it means to care for others, why that's a trait worth dying for. daigo who mine feels he is not worthy of, daigo for whom mine sacrifices himself. daigo whom kiryu covers up mine's betrayal for because he didn't want to hurt him, and because mine was better than that. daigo who's forgiven for selling out majima, for getting caught in something stupid. daigo the "little chef". daigo who kiryu nearly jumps off a building to reach when he's shot, and saejima who holds him back. kiryu who leaves a letter for him, and not haruka, the always-chosen. daigo who's joined by saejima and majima when the tojo crumbles and they have to hide. daigo whose men follow him in the security company afterwards.
daigo who needed to be loved. daigo who loved anyway. daigo who was loved.

it’s kinda funny to me how that dumb scene in kiwami 1 of majima getting shot and left for dead in the harbor was basically just added as a half-assed way to explain majima not being around for a bit of the plot, but they accidentally(?) just made it seem like start of a chain reaction where majima ended up feeling slighted and heartbroken after being abandoned like that and then lashed out about it via smashing a big truck into the building kiryu was in. and yeah that isn’t inherently a romantic thing as-is but then they go and add the part where majima grabs a hostess and performatively hits on her as in-kiryu’s-face as possible, she says she’s already in love with someone, and majima lets her go immediately, no questions asked, making a big fucking point of it just to say see THAT kiryu? I appreciate when people are HONEST about their FEELINGS. people who won’t just BACKSTAB someone who CARES about them to save themselves. is that so crazy kiryu?? huh??? anyway make it up to me get down here and fight me right fucking now
#I think on another level he was sorta saying like ‘hey kiryu. you’re making it extremely clear that you don’t trust me and my intentions#and I’ve been trying to show you- over and over again- that I’d do just about anything for you and your safety#but I can’t just let my mask fall off in front of everyone- I need to keep up the unpredictable morally grey wildcard act for both my sake#AND yours. because disguising my helping you as crazy random violent outbursts and weird stalker behavior#is the only way I CAN help you. do you think it would go over well with shimano or literally anyone else if I was outright helping you out#of the kindness of my heart and fondness for you? stop being so fucking dense and look past the crazy wacky nonsense for a second and#maybe you’ll realize that all I do at the end of the day- really- is help you and put my own life and reputation on the line for you.#I am an honest guy when it comes to my real values and when I told you I wouldn’t let anyone kill you unelss it was myself- I meant it.#I’ve taken a knife and a bullet for you now. can you REALLY not see through the act yet? am I REALLY that unpredictable when you think about#it?’#that was a longer explanation than i intended but. it was difficult to put into words#I basically feel like it could be read as him implying kiryu shouldn’t backstab the people who put themselves on the line to help him#and/or pointing out that he’s never actually done kiryu dirty and has stuck to his word protecting him in the ways he can#trying to say yeah all this is a crazy act and all but when it comes down to it you Can trust me#it really makes sense when you think about it that he’d have to help kiryu/show affection towards kiryu in unpredictable convoluted ways#at that point in time because. I mean. there’s a reason he was the only person who showed up to welcome kiryu when he got out of prison#and that’s because A) he sticks to his word and his loyalty to people he cares about and B) no one else had the balls or the batshit insane#mask to wear to ward off anyone asking real questions like majima did. because ANYONE associating themselves with the supposed#patriarch-killer was a HUGE NO-NO at the time. someone important showing up for kiryu and welcoming him back outright could’ve caused#all-out warfare probably. except majima. because majima was dedicated and smart enough to use his widely-feared wildcard persona#(that everyone tended to view as incapable of having any Real agenda to worry about) to his And kiryu’s advantage#does that make sense??? I feel like it makes a lot of sense if you get it to click in your head#kazumaji#majima#kiryu#yakuza#kiwami 1#yk1#rambling

had to take a hard break from my yakuza kiwami 2 playthrough
yeah its the kiss scene. blasted me right out of the ride. sayama just lost her father less than 12 hours ago, admits shes emotionally shaky, and the writer decides kiryu should go in for a kiss right there?
in normal situations thats just sexual harassment. and i still dont feel the chemistry bc yk2 kiryu is behaving awfully weird around women in this entry. the things he does and say sometimes crosses into sexual harassment more than once. its so weird.
dude's behaving like he's got depression from losing yumi and nishiki the year before, dealing with significant social awkwardness and just does that. after repeatedly pulling away from girls who are into him in the cabaret social outings. o<-< whats going on.
my current question being, is he unintentionally treating sayama as a rebound bc she resembles yumi physically?
i see the hint of reused tropes with yumi. the same trope of how they're both beautiful. yumi with her gekka bijin and sayama with multiple characters commenting on her beauty multiple times. the age too, matches up with roughly yumi's before kiryu got sent to jail in y1, being mid 20s.
i also cant really accept the age part. kiryu is 39. sayama is 25. sayama is also an overachiever and these types tend to be more naive and inexperienced when it comes to dating and relationships. its a little... hm.... nnmmmmmnmng. hm.
anyway, if he is using sayama as a rebound thats leaning into evil on the ethical heterosexuality scale. not as bad as yumi getting killed -- bc how dare she moved on instead of waiting for kiryu? bad faith interpretation here yes, but a plausible interpretation nevertheless.
this is definitely some kind of weird bad writing and i cant get behind it at all.
i also dont know why they didnt add sayama into minigames and write more banter fluff if she's mean to be the romance interest for kiryu. there's nothing. i can invite majima who happily hops by despite having to juggle 3 VERY big jobs, but i cant invite sayama? we have a little mechanic of increasing haruka's affection by doing her requests but all sayama gets is cutscenes...? really....? at least try...
none of these alone would be a deal breaker necessarily, bc they do actually mesh well on the surface level. there was a few scenes that made me cheer for them. but there's too much when its all added together that it cant save the bad payoff.
there is actually so much going on that im wondering if kiryu's actually into women at all, and in fact, not seeing them all as harukas. 🤔
also now looking back at that bucket list scene in y8: sayama. im sorry. the writers should have given you a life beyond yk2 and allowed you to move on.
the game isnt over yet im sure theres gonna be more Heterosexual Bullshit coming my way. i need a drink.

headcannons for a shy s/o?? ❤️❤️
On it boss, also sorry it took so long I have so many asks ahhh. Last one for today tho, see y'all tomorrow me big tired rn. Headcanons below the cut mine beloved.
Kazuma Kiryu
He's very good with shy people as he's rather introverted himself. Very good at understanding personal space. Totally fine with ordering stuff for you if you get too shy. He's usually the one that answers the phone at home, since most of the calls are for him anyways, so don't worry about that either. He's the most reassuring, always telling you it's okay and that you don't need to force yourself to do anything.
Majima Goro
Is he the total opposite of shy? Sure. Does he give a darn? Hell nah. He loves his partner and that's all there is to it, it doesn't matter to him if they're shy or not, he thinks they're neat. Anyone who makes fun of you gets a swift kick in the pants as Majima is your number 1 defender. Says things like "Don't worry 'bout a thing babe, I'll take care of it" and his bumbling wild energy is infectious, even to you.
Akiyama Shun
He thinks shy people are just the darn cutest. Fair warning, he will totally tease you about being shy as he loves seeing you blush about it but he will absolutely respect your boundaries if you tell him to stop. Most of the time though, he's just neutral about the whole shy thing. He's a bit of an introvert in some ways in that he'd rather kind of just do his own thing, so it's very easy for the two of you to just sit at home, each of you occupied by something different and just sharing the space together.
Tanimura Masayoshi
Also thinks your shyness is cute but he's a somewhat meaner tease than Akiyama. However, if someone else tries to tease you about it, he gets all protective and tells them to watch what they say next time. Confuddling boy, our Tanimura. Also has a tendency to pat you on the head, especially if you do something out of your comfort zone like make an important phone call. He's a silly goose.
Saejima Taiga
He is ALSO shy so you two can just be shy buddies. A lot of "No, ya go first" with Saejima. This goes with just about anything, from who walks into a room first to if you both speak at the same time. In the same beat, he will not hesitate to chew out a guy who says something rude or tries to be inappropriate with you before immediately speaking to you in the softest, quietest, and nicest voice. Most people wouldn't believe Saejima is actually shy himself.
Ryuji Goda
Like a human shield and a protective blanket all wrapped into one person. You're shy? No problem, big boy Ryuji's got your back. He's actually the best at encouraging you to slowly step out of your comfort zone and cares more about seeing you be able to do well on your own than trying to protect you from any potential threats. Also the MOST supportive boy, for example if you ace a job interview you were super nervous about, he's going to celebrate by picking you up, spinning you around, and loudly singing you praises like "See, I knew ya could do it!".
Nishikiyama Akira
Out of all the boys, he's the worst at handling his significant other's shy moments. Nishiki has never been shy in his life so won't intuitively understand what you're feeling but he will be able to immediately pick up on the fact that you're feeling uncomfortable with something. In that sense, he's good at saving face for you, for example if someone on the street tries to tell you something and you're too shy to tell them to stop pestering you, he'll step in and say things like "Hey buddy, they just said they weren't interested so why don't you stop bugging 'em?". His best skill is swatting away people trying to take advantage of your shyness.
Daigo Dojima
He seems very calm and collected but actually he's prone to anxiety so he relates to you a lot. You both provide each other with a lot of support. A very gentle partner. In the beginning of the relationship, he'll probably be more shy than you are just because dating is such a foreign concept to him. Once he settles into the role, he's a great supporter and the best at comforting you if you get anxious.
Mine Yoshitaka
King of overcoming things. Best person to go to when it comes to panic attacks. He knows all kinds of ways to calm you down, like breathing exercises. Mine is introverted but not shy so he helps pick up the slack when it comes to social interactions, especially with strangers. If someone is heckling you for being shy or not speaking up, he's totally the type of guy to be like "They said they want extra ketchup on their burger!", like in those memes.

Yakuza and coping mechanisms
Tumblr media
Yakuza has been my on and off hyperfocus for years now but also in particular the past month, so let's talk about it. And particularly, how many friggin coping mechanisms are in this game.
Disclaimer: I do literary analysis, not psycho analysis, don't come for me.
For all its silliness about fighting roomba's and disco minigames, the world that the Yakuza games is set in, is fucking brutal. They are, at their very core, crime drama's. People get murdered a lot, lives are ruined in various ways, a good third of protags spend large amounts of time in jail, usually for a crime they didn't commit. Most politicians and police are corrupt, racism is blatant and if you don't have a place in the very strict hierarchy of society, it's hard to get back on your feet (hence all the crime). I tend to read a lot of indictments of Japanese society in these games, partly because they are so clearly based on old school yakuza crime drama's.
This means that the characters go through some shit. And what's fascinating, is how they deal with this.
Spoiler warning for, uhh, almost all yakuza games except Song Of Life (since i never played that)
Pretending it's not real
Kasuga Ichiban
The direct reason I'm even making this blog post because he's the most blatant about it. Kasuga is Peak Himbo in that he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he manages to take being beaten down Repeatedly and overcomes that with a sense of genuine good nature and optimism that is… honestly kind of hard to believe. The way he deals with any of this, is that he's a nerd who pretends to be in a video game. It's the whole premise of Yakuza Like a Dragon.
And to be fair, Kasuga suffers from an amount of mistreatment that makes me Very Angry in his stead. He has every right to be upset! He is literally homeless in the beginning of the game. If he requires the escapism of going around pretending to be in a jrpg to survive, more power to him. Especially since it works. Dude goes around helping people and making friends. Which is a good thing, because there's no way he'd make it out of Yokohama alive if he didn't have some back-up.
Side note: something similar happens to at the very least Majima, i think, in the admittedly non-canonical events of Yakuza Dead Souls. (yes i played it solely for Majima, no i do not recommend it, the game is garbage and you get more Majima in Zero anyway). In Dead Souls, Kamurocho is overrun by zombies. As a lover of all things Horror, Majima decides he may as well have a good time mowing them down like he's in an FPS while he trudges through the wreckage of society.
Tumblr media
Self sacrifice
Mostly Kazuma Kiryu and  Saejima Taiga
If you hate yourself, at least try to be of use to someone. Let's be honest, a lot of the plot of Yakuza games is driven by self sacrifice or at least following some code of honor to its ludicrous ends.
Kiryu is the main example here. The game kinda glosses over this a lot, but he is, at least in Zero, a criminal. He goes around extorting money from businesses. He consistently solves problems through violence. It's kinda the point of the games. But he's also borderline a saint and 80% of the shit he gets into is because of his need to throw himself to the wolves for any person he cares about. He voluntarily does hard time for Nishikiyama, for one. He picks up a stray kid that he will now protect with his life. And it just goes on from there. See, Kiryu may be the famous Dragon of Dojima and the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan and all that, but he would very much prefer not to be? Dude wants to live a quiet life and raise some kids, it's just that he's the protag of a game series about how hard it is to say goodbye to the yakuza life. So the plot keeps finding ways to bring him back, usually as a reluctant warrior to save the Tojo clan or Haruka  or whatever. If he was a little less honorable, he could still be chilling as a taxi driver with an unreasonably hot girlfriend, I'm just saying.
Saejima is very similar, but somehow even worse? Much as I love the guy, he's an idiot. He suffers from the same loyalty and selflessness as Kiryu, but he doesn't even get a cute daughter out of it. He spends Twenty Five years in prison for a crime he (we later find out) didn't commit. He escapes months before his parole to solve the convoluted plot of Y4. Then Goes Back to Jail to atone for (again) a crime he only thought he'd committed, only to escape (again) when he thinks Majima, his sworn brother, got murdered in Y5. As far as i can tell he goes back to jail one last time to finish his actual sentence, and to like, protect the name of the Tojo clan or some shit. My dude. My friend. Come on.
As a side note, acts of selflessness are kind of a big deal in the Yakuza games and one of the main ways to tell if someone is a good criminal or a villain. Kasuga and his crew are pretty big on the whole 'acts of selfless kindness' thing. It also seems to be one of the traits of Daigo Dojima, whose whole being screams 'I don't want to be here but who else is gonna fucking do it'. But in the case of Kiryu and Saejima it's very much verging on reckless self-endangerment.
Tumblr media
Fabricated identities
Majima Goro, baby!
The Yakuza games really love this one, but I'll start with the big guy, everyone's favourite character: Majima. This dude has seen some shit. We see him throughout several flashbacks and the span of the games, but most tellingly we see him in Zero, at his rock bottom hero stage. And he's intriguingly unlike the other times he shows up. This is a Majima that's recovering from torture and backstabbing, and forced to do some dude's bidding for scraps. He's a chained dog (pun very much intended) and he's about to lose it.
What's fun about Majima is that he has So Many of the traits in this list. He has a lot of the reckless endangerment and self sacrifice that his buddies Kiryu and Saejima have. He gave himself up a few times for Haruka, he keeps trundling back to save Tojo and Dojima, but there's also a whole other layer of … Flamboyance to him.
And while Majima probably started out as comic relief, the games make clear that it's not all he is, and we get several glimpses of 'old Majima' throughout the series. He'll be in the middle of a self inflicted fight and drop some wisdom, for instance. He acts erratically, he is blunt, violent, exuberant in his dressing up. When given a task his first thought seems to be 'how can i make this Extra', but that doesn't mean the guy is unstable. You don't become a successful businessman with a building company, or a patriarch of your own family, without being smart and strategic. A lot of classic Majima behaviour, i feel, is a case of a mask he constructed to hide the severe depression, that became more of a second nature to him. Majima is one of the clearest examples of 'do what you need to do'. He's a survivor, through and through. Somewhere in there is a decent human being, but Majima will kill people to survive in a harsh world. It just seems like he constructed an extra layer to shield himself from all that.
Joon-gi Han (Like a Dragon): This is more a case of stolen (inherited??) identity, but again, if you don't want to be you, just be someone else. In this case someone he admires. Again: super tragic backstory, questionable life choices. As an aside, Joon-gi is fun because he is both a deadly assassin with someone else's name and face, but also  a Knight stereotype who would do everything for his queen and I think that's neat.
Zhao Tianyou (Like a Dragon): Somewhat more subtle, but Zhao is also a dude that was at one point confronted with a Situation, namely 'oh shit my dad died and now I'm in charge of a violent gang'. And to deal with that he decided to construct a persona that gives exactly zero fucks. He is very joking and very avoidant but we do learn that a fair amount of his laid back attitude is just veneer. Dude in fact gives several fucks. You don't decide to give up the throne and become a homeless sidekick to Himbo Supreme because you don't care. You do it to stop him from getting ultra-murdered by the parade of heavily armored gangsters he keeps storming into.
Akiyama Shun (Yakuza 4-5): I debated putting him here, because part of me believes Akiyama is just kind of a dick. A dick I love as a character, but still, ya know. At least some of the dickish persona is a front, though. Akiyama is another one that just saw his life's work destroyed at some point, and decided that emotional detachment was the way to go. Akiyama is different because he was never actually a proper criminal. He was homeless for a bit, and then came into some money (through Extremely Convoluted Plot Means) and now he's a moneylender. And like Zhao, he mostly pretends to be completely devoid of feelings, while having a fair amount of feelings. Enough to get into like… fist fights. With actual gangsters. Who have guns.
Tumblr media
Vice
Sex, drugs and everything in between
The preferred way for noir drama's to show someone is Going Through It, is by giving them a classic addiction and Yakuza isn't any different. It's why several characters are shown mournfully smoking, in particular Kiryu and Majima. Yes I know it's because it looks cool and harks back to old crime movie atmosphere. That doesn't make it a healthy coping mechanism.
Another obvious one, considering the setting of the games in several red lights districts, is erotica. Both Adachi, the ex-cop from Like a Dragon and Shinada, the ex-baseball player from Y5 and also my least fave protag ever, are both in various stages of obsession about porn, sex work and the likes.
Tanimura, the cop from Y4 has a pretty severe gambling problem in the actual canon, though gambling games and casino's are a general mainstay of the Yakuza series. It's just that when Kiryu interrupts his busy day of solving the convoluted intrigue du jour to gamble in an illegal underground casino, it's not a character flaw.
Also: almost everyone drinks ludicrous amounts of heavy alcohol in these games. Both in canon and as part of the gameplay. 100% ing the games usually involves drinking tons of whiskey, but the whole Ichiban crew, sans I think Eri, is shown drowning their troubles at various times.
Violence: I mean, that's kind of the game, but an unhealthy amount of characters consider fist fights to be a good way to resolve conflict, bond with people and generally reinvigorate themselves. Particularly Majima is shown to get a real kick out of doing damage and being beaten up. There's just a lot of reckless behaviour, which is what makes the games good.
Karaoke: fake it till you make it, man.
Extra note:
You'll notice there's no women on this list, and that's because honestly the game is kinda sexist. So while there's already Very Few women in the game, the ones that are present don't exactly have super complex characters.
Mukoda Saeko, the hostess from Like a Dragon, drinks like a fish but that's about her main flaw.
Other notable female characters are Kiryu's kid Haruka, Kiryu's love interest Sawamura Yumi (Kiwami) and Kamataki Eri, the business lady from Like a Dragon. They're all stereotypical Good Girls who have no flaws apart from indecisiveness and an unhealthy tendency for selflessness.
Saejima Yasuko is ever so slightly more complex: her main trait is self sacrifice. The story promptly fridges her for it.

Will we see the old flame ro from the flash back?
Like we get a bittersweet view of our old love happy and moving on with one else, or see them still suck on us even years later especially if we said for them to leave us after we save them.
For bittersweet I picture something like majima from Yakuza and makoto, saving the old ro without them knowing it's us and giving the new guy or girl the shovel talk, if we leave something for our old flame to find showing we're still out there but happy for them anyway that would definitely be a good type of painful.
Me reacting to Majima leaving behind the watch for makoto 😭
hello marvelous twelvth anon of this blog, i wonder what the tides bring up onto the shore for your question thrown at the sea... maybe it's a bottle? maybe it's a coquillage? maybe it's a fish? oh wait, that's a response in the form of words!
"There are parts to play in the story for the old flame, though what exact shape that takes you'll have to wait and see! That does sound like a deliciously bittersweet scene though."
Fun fact: I've never played Yakuza either. I know it's about gay gangsters and nothing else. Do they even fuck? If not, what's the point of having games about gay gangsters? Oh, and I know the baka mitai meme. And it's a good song too.

r u willing to talk more about how you view majimas relationship to saejima in the late games. saw ur hc about how they have difficulty finding where they fit in eachothers lives again when they suddenly have to start living together and it made me think............................... i love your headcanons.your understanding the complexities of fictional characters swag
I have a half-brother who is 14 years older than me, meaning he's in his 30s. He has his own life now, a wife and a kid, a successful career as a streamer and commentator. He moved out when I was around four, before I ever really knew him. He'd occassionaly visit from time to time, but I never truly got to know him. Now, I'm 21, he's 35, and we barely know each other. He feels more like a family friend to me than family. But, he's still my family.
Anyways, In the flashback we saw in the eighties, Majima and Saejima clearly are close friends, however there's a throwaway dialogue from Saejima that got me thinking. Something along the lines of "It's not everyday Majima comes by," meaning Majima visiting is almost a rarity in Saejima and Yasuko's apartment. To me, this extends to their entire relationship. Majima is a rare visitor in Saejima's life entirely. While their bond does run very deep, they're both young and in their own circles.
Now, we're in present day, Saejima's out of prison for the last time- no place to live except with the one person who's alive and waiting. Majima. With no mental preparation, Majima houses Saejima, and they've never actually lived together. Saejima saw the best and rare of Majima when he'd see him. They have to learn a lot about each other very quickly. But it's hard. They are both extremely different now, and Saejima can't suddenly bring back the past, fit into their old molds. And for Majima, there is never an "exception" to his trauma. He isn't suddenly going to cave for Kiryu, suddenly cave for Saejima-- neither of them are his "saviors" who will save him from his pain. He's not going to just let Saejima into his brain just like that, when he never had to in the eighties.
Regardless, their bond still runs deep. It was Saejima who stood on equal footing with Majima, saw Majima eye-to-eye, never treated him as a subordinate, and never saw him as a leader. They were brothers to the core, hands locked together. And Majima will never throw Saejima out into the cold. Though, Majima can't deny the rough spots. They argue, Majima gives the silent treatment, Saejima detaches, but they still live under the same roof, still sit together in those walls. Despite everything, they keep each other grounded.
But yeah, that's my thoughts. A level of detachment with each other they can never mend because it never existed in the first place. Regardless, they're family-- through and through. And you can't change that.

Kiryu: Haruka, you know she's my number one girl-
Majima: Excuse me?
Majima: She's your number one girl?!
Kiryu: Of course she is! You know this!
Majima: If Haruka and I were standing on train tracks, and you can only save one of us-
Kiryu: Obviously Haruka.
Majima: WHAT
Kiryu: What are you doing playing on the tracks anyway!? You're an adult, you should know better!
Majima: I cannot believe this.
Kiryu: Haruka is a child! Don't take her on the train tracks with you!

Hi loving all your prompts on the esque characters, especially the belmont and majima s/o!
If that's okay with you, could I request a various characters (your choice) opinions about majima s/o? Seeing as how the dark knight and belmont one got one too
Sure thing, I can give ya the Majima and the Belmont one!
Even though they all call them S/O, assume that Ayaka and Eula are the "canon" love interest for the respective reader.
Anyways, starting off with:
Majima!S/O
Tumblr media
(Ayaka) "S/O? Despite what everyone says about them, they are the most selfless person I have ever met. S/O has sacrificed so much of their own happiness to ensure everyone they care about is safe. Including me. I couldn't be more proud to have them in my life.
As for their eccentric side...Well, I think it has a certain charm to it. Especially when you've gotten to know how they're actually like. I could, however, do away with them terrorizing you, Traveller..."
--
Vision Hunt Decree
(S/O) "Eh, Kamisato? That stick in the mud? Why the hell would I know her, she cramps my style!"
--
Post-Vision Hunt Decree
(S/O) "Ayaka...It's astonishing how willing she is to stick with me. I've caused her no small amount of heartache and pain to her life. I avoided her for a year straight to avoid getting her in trouble during the Decree. Yet, she never gave up hope in being with me again.
Hell, that might just be why she's still here. She just never gives up on anyone. Heh, though she could've loved someone who was less of a pain in the ass. Bet Makoto would've said the same thing."
==
(Itto) "S/O might as well be an honorary Arataki Gang member! They always put up a hell of a fight for me, and I'm happy to throw down! It's pretty funny too watching them pop out of nowhere. Though uh, Shinobu definitely doesn't find it as funny..."
--
(S/O) "Itto is the only one who truly gets me! To fight and train each other, so that we may be worthy opponents! I could have no better rival!"
==
(Shinobu) "They're an absolute menace. I have no idea how they keep coming up with no stunts to drag the Arataki Gang into trouble every single time. But I'm going to fight them myself one day."
--
(S/O) "Bah, Shinobu's never any fun! She never plays along with the rest of the gang like the killjoy she is! She needs to lighten the fuck up, that's for sure!"
==
(Thoma) "Ayaka trusts S/O with her life, and for good reason! They're a good person, calling them the 'Mad Dog' is unfair. Ah, but I guess with how they act to everyone that doesn't know them is...a little justified."
--
(S/O) "Thoma's a good man, a little bit dense, but still. He took good care of Makoto while we were still hanging around. He tried to save her during the raid, and for that, I trust him like Ayaka does too."
==
(Sara) "Ugh, first it's that Oni, and now it's that lunatic. S/O is yet another daily nuisance I have to deal with. They even seem to relish in my misery! I swear when I get my hands on them..."
--
(S/O) "HAH! Oh man, does Kujou hate my guts! She ain't a bad cop, I'll give her that but boy she's got a glare that can rival Shinobu! I still don't know who's worse in the 'No Fun Allowed' department!"
===
Belmont!S/O
Tumblr media
(Eula) "S/O Belmont. They are many things. A drunkard, rude, a brute, stupid...And yet, they're the most reliable and kind-hearted person I've ever met in Mondstadt.
Outcasts are what we both are. Clan Lawrence damned Clan Belmont to extinction, so one would assume that we'd hate each other. But we're here together, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Though, they need to seriously stop spending all their Mora at Angel's Share. I like drinking as much as the next person, but NOT to that extent."
--
(S/O) "The Lawrence girl? She's not as bad as people made her out to be. Honestly when I met Eula, I expected her to be a right fuckin' prick like me. But she's got a heart of gold, explains why the Knights took her in, no questions asked.
She may not act like it, but she's a big ol' softie. Just gotta get past that icy exterior of hers. Barbatos knows I have, heh. In fact, you know she gets all emotional when she drinks? It's the funniest shit."
==
(Jean) "S/O means well, despite what they can say and act like. They came from a disgraced Noble Household from Mondstadt's history, but they have always been honorable.
The Belmonts were monster hunters and protected the people. Thanks to S/O, the Belmonts continue to do so to this very day. I just wish they would consider joining the Knights of Favonius since they always seem to tag along with Eula."
--
(S/O) "Ah, Jean. Nice gal, way too overworked if you ask me. Shit that she does is exactly why I don't join the Knights. I'm a bloody monster hunter, I don't have time to be chasing cats around. She's downright mad to listen to every single damn request these people have."
==
(Lisa) "Once S/O actually cleaned themselves up, they are quite interesting to talk to. They always come in the library to do research on old monster tomes, you'd never know how smart they were just by looking at them!"
--
(S/O) "The Librarian kinda scares the shit outta me. You know she once shocked a guy for accidentally spilling wine on her book? Poor bastard couldn't walk for a week, it's why I'm damn careful with the books I get from her. That smile hides some sadistic shit, I'll tell ya that much, Traveller."
==
(Kaeya) "Master Belmont. They hide quite a bit about themselves around me in particular. I'm not too sure why, as I just want to make conversation. But to each their own, I suppose. I would love to see how they fight in person, though."
--
(S/O) "Kaeya is the shadiest son of a bitch in this city. He knows way too much just to be comfortable with the position of Calvary Captain. And speaking of, what the hell is the point of being a Calvary Captain without any horses?!"
==
(Klee) "Master Belmont is the coolest! I taught them how to put my special bombs on their whip! It makes a HUUUGE kaboom! Hehehe!"
--
(S/O) "If you told me that a child could weaponize the Morning Star whip to be even more explosive a year ago, I'd have been VERY skeptical. That kid is going to kill us all. Pretty cute, though.
Feel sorry for the bastard that's gotta meet her parents if they get to know her when she's older."
==
(Diluc) "The Belmont. They do good work, and I'm glad they haven't joined the Knights so their independence isn't entirely gone. They're also one of my best customers with how frequently they come in. Though, I'm afraid they're going to an early grave with just how much they drink."
--
(S/O) "Master Diluc, love the red-headed emo boy! He serves some damn fantastic wine, enough to make me forget the entire day! A little too stiff, but eh? If that's how the man is, I can't change that. Has a real hate boner for the Knights though. I mean, I don't like 'em entirely myself but MAN, he really hates them."

Infinite Wealth Ch. 12
The short version:
Tumblr media
*drags hands down face*
"DON'T YOU LEAVE!" fucking wrecked my heart. Goddammit, Kiryu, at least give him a fuckin' hug before you go.
(okay no listen I love me some kazumaji and while I wish they could have actually been even 1/1000000th as delightfully gay for each other in this scene as they were in Ishin I also really dig the "Majima is way more into it than Kiryu is and knows it but keeps carrying the torch because he doesn't think he deserves better" version but also AAAAAAUGH HUG HIM DAMMIT)
...excuse me.
Damn but that was a good fight, huh? I made an extra save just so I can go back to it whenever I want because damn. The breaking of the turn system for Thematic Reasons was especially nice.
On a more plot-related note: son of a BITCH! So, over on a Discord I poke around in, one of the regulars has been running RGG Big Brother seasons using some sort of web generator thingy and at a couple of points in season 2, things happened such that we saw Ebina and Arakawa's headshots side by side, and I thought huh! Ebina kind of looks a little like Arakawa! The eyes, or perhaps the nose, or maybe even both are similar! Haha, what an interesting coincidence! and then I promptly forgot about that and went on enjoying the drama and hijinks. HIGH FIVE, BRAIN. GG. oh man this is going to fucking destroy Ichi if/when he finds out :(
(unrelated but funny: in that same season the Big Brother generator ended up making Tanimura a complete asshole who screwed his entire alliance over and the whole server lost its collective shit when he got hoisted on his own petard but anyway)

Share your fairytale AUs with the class bestie
(CRACKS KNUCKLES) alright where the hell do i even start with this
the main one i've been pretty fixated on lately is my little shop of horrors/little mermaid au with seymour and audrey. (did i make this au because howard ashman/alan menken wrote the songs for both little shop and disney's little mermaid? perhaps)
honestly i think you could put either seymour or audrey in the "mermaid" role but personally i prefer seymour as the mermaid in my au bc the plotline about sacrificing parts of yourself to a malevolent entity (sea witch or man-eating plant) in exchange for your dream life/getting to be with the person you love is a common thread in both stories (and in the original fairytale of the little mermaid AND the director's cut/stage musical ending of little shop, this deal winds up going wrong and leaves the protagonist dead by the end of the story). plus, seymour technically "rescued" audrey from orin by killing him, just like how the mermaid saves the prince.
now let's seeeeeee. i also have a majimako cinderella au that i'm pretty attached to. i read a post once about majima's plotline in yakuza 0 being almost a direct parallel to cinderella and it changed my brain chemistry honestly. it's also what birthed this au. plus he literally sings a song called 24 hour cinderella duh. so along with majima as cinderella (person forced to work for someone else who suddenly gets a chance to escape servitude) and makoto as the prince (who loses track of the person they formed a deep connection with...although makoto actually ends up finding him again in this story!!) there's also sagawa as the stepmother (but there are no stepsisters in this version bc i couldnt think of any), nishitani as the fairy godmother (because i got that idea and it was hilarious to me so it stuck) and yuki and the rest of the club sunshine crew as majima's mice friends.
uhhhhh beauty and the beast is one of my favorite fairy tales so ive made like a bajillion of those aus for various fandoms ive been in over the years. i have a majimako batb au that i like but haven't done a lot with (although im thinking to set it in the modern day rather than a more traditional fairy tale setting). i also wrote a sort of beauty and the beast-esque thing with seymour and audrey a few years ago but i reread it recently and it was cringe to me so if that idea ever comes back around it'll probably need more than a few plot tweaks.
i'd kill to have a little mermaid au with nishiki as the mermaid btw (bc helloooooooo koi imagery....pretty merman nishiki with a pretty koi tail <3) but i have no idea who his prince could be. maybe kiryu? maybe he doesn't even go up to the human world for romance at all maybe he just wants to prove a point or something idk.
anywayssss im sure i have more but i cant think of em right now and this mostly turned into rambling about half-baked ideas anyways lmao

So, I've been thinking about the Yakuza series for a long time now.
I've also just passed the 2nd anniversary of me beating Yakuza 0. So, I think it'd be appropriate, both time wise and as my first Tumblr rambling, to share a headcanon I now carry for the series.
spoilers for the Yakuza series, up to Kiwami 2/a teeny bit of 3 (mainly, Kiryu's whereabouts after K2)
After Kiryu and Makoto meet in 0, they strike up a friendship. In canon, nothing happens after that.
HOWEVER, heres where my headcanon comes in
After the events of 0, Makoto ends up visiting Kiryu at the same time she gets her watch back. They have a fun conversation, which leads to them exchanging addresses.
And then...
They start writing letters to each other.
They begin as short letters but soon evolve into pages upon pages of the two of them getting to know each other and talking about anything and everything.
Even after Kiryu is arrested, the police Date allow him to corrospond with Makoto via letter (Date would inspect them at the beginning, but eventually stopped due to trusting Kiryu)
They would talk about everything and bonded over many things, including mutual loss (Nishiki/Yumi and Tachibana), and they'd tell each other about their lives.
Eventually, Makoto would ask Kiryu about the man who saved her back in the 80s. Kiryu would identify him as Majima, the Mad Dog of the Shimano family. They'd talk ad-nauseum about him and compare stories on the intricate and complicated man.
But there's one thing.
Kiryu never described what Majima looked like, and Makoto never went looking for him, since he is yakuza. That'd be super dangerous, you know.
Kiryu never told Majima that he was in contact with Makoto, as he feared the worst. But then again, Majima was already obsessed with fighting him.
This continues, until after Majima Saga in Kiwami 2.
After giving Majima his massage, in her next letter to Kiryu, Makoto talks about the man she massaged that was oddly silent ("He seemed very intimidating, I was worried I was doing something wrong!")
In his letter back, Kiryu wrote that the silent man was Majima.
Now, Makoto is smart. However, she doesn't quite believe Kiryu at first. After receiving the new strap for her watch, she puts it all together.
The man who gave her the watch strap, the silent man who visited the massage place, the kind man who helped her all those years ago, and the person that her and Kiryu wrote about regularly, it was all Goro Majima.
Once she's settled in America, Makoto sends a package to Kiryu's orphanage in Okinawa. The majority of the shipment is gently used clothing + supplies for Morning Glory, but on the top of the package are 2 letters. One is addressed to Kiryu as normal.
The other is addressed to one Goro Majima.
Anyway, in Yakuza 3, Majima has received the letter from Kiryu, and while he hadn't gotten the guts to write back, he keeps the letter in the inside pocket of his jacket, right over his heart.
