Resolutions in Saezuru
In general, there is a feeling that saezuru is coming to an end soon and it really does feel like it as the conflicts are heating up. I wanted to make a post about all the “villains” Yashiro and Doumeki will have to deal with in their journey to be together.
1. Inami: he is a huge personal villain both Yashiro and Doumeki have. I have said it before that he is the physical embodiment of all the fears Doumeki has about being like his father as we see when Inami is first introduced and in the most recent chapter. And he is Yashiro’s rapist used to show how Yashiro has been stuck in a cycle of abuse for decades at this point. Based on what he has told Doumeki in chapter 54, I don’t think the last chapter is we’re going to see him in. I can see him being a contender for the final boss role along with Misumi lol. He also has a lot of power as he is a detective and in the specific division focusing on organized crime so he can use his resources to build cases against Doumeki, he probably wouldn’t do that to Yashiro for now. I see many people wanting Doumeki to hurt him seriously but again nothing good will come of that. I have said that Inami telling Doumeki about Yashiro’s impotency is like when he walked in on his father raping Aoi. But beating his father got him a 4 year prison sentence. I am not sure why anyone would want him to go through that again. Ultimately, Inami is for Yashiro to beat as he does mention that he has the information upper hand. If Doumeki does act oddly towards Yashiro because of Inami, that could be the push he needs to break the cycle.
2. The yakuza conflict: after rereading and jotting down a summary of the yakuza conflict, I believe it comes down to Kai and possibly Okuyama. The reason why I hesitate to definitively say Okuyama is involved is because Kai mentioned that the kumichou (Okuyama) is currently unaware of rising tensions between his group and the sakura group. The kyoukusekai also seem hesitant to go against Yashiro and by extension the doushinkai due to their partnership. Though it was mentioned that Kai got out of prison recently so he could have been unable to be a part of the kidnapping so we’ll have to wait for clarification on that. The way I understand it is if Okuyama was involved then there is an expectation of a war to happen. If he wasn’t and Kai was the ringleader, the conflict should calm down once he is dealt with. Yashiro also should, in Doumeki and the Sakura group’s eyes, not be interested in Kai. Yamakawa is the one with the money and once Yashiro gets his money then for all intents and purposes his role should be done.
3. Misumi: it seems like he is thought of the final boss. As we progress in the story, I think it is a toss up between Misumi and Inami. Misumi isn’t technically a villain but he doesn’t like Doumeki. He is also trying to get Yashiro to join back in. I know there are thoughts that he is somehow behind all of these conflicts. I personally think that he is not since the story would then be overrun with the yakuza conflict and become more of a crime story rather than a romantic one. I could be wrong but I don’t think that Misumi is currently the mastermind. I don’t like Misumi but I think that he does care for Yashiro and him saying “he won’t forgive Yashiro if he doesn’t join again” can be interpreted in other ways. It could be seen in a controlling parent way where he is trying to pressure Yashiro but he won’t hurt him if Yashiro doesn’t listen. Misumi is also for Yashiro to deal with as he has been a controlling, questionable parent figure in Yashiro’s life since he was a teen. Doumeki can’t fight Misumi for Yashiro considering the power Misumi has. This particular conflict can represent Yashiro being steady and strong in what he wants (being with Doumeki out of the yakuza).
Those are the 3 main outer conflicts that I can think of right now and along with Yashiro and Doumeki’s inner conflicts all need to be addressed before the end of saezuru. I have mentioned multiple times how I think Yashiro and Doumeki need to evolve on a personal level so integrating the conflicts to that was helpful for me. Hopefully it helps other see or raise a discussion.

His Persona Is Wavering
Impressions; Chapter 50
The mystery Mama has reappeared. Surprisingly, she calls Doumeki by his first name. Doumeki asks if some customers who caused trouble at her club were part of Okuyama-gumi. Kamiya, who has a grim expression (emerged blood vessel which indicates his mood is drawn in his speech bubble), appears to be trying to interrupt Doumeki, possibly because Okuyama-gumi’s turning against Sakura Family is still inside information. In contrast, Mama smoothly replies that they seemed to be old customers of her club. It implies that she has some inside information about the Family.
Back in high school age, when Kageyama got a girlfriend, Yashiro stepped down from him. He had shown no jealousy (Tadayoedo sizumazu, saredo naki mo sezu, vol.1, the translated title: Though they drift, they do not sink, but nor do they sing). When Aoi showed up, he recognized at one glance that she was a woman, and immediately presumed that she must have been Doumeki’s girlfriend (ch.2, vol.1). Yashiro is not an autonomous, solid gay man. He does not substantially accept his sexuality and more… As far as Aoi was a woman, he must have felt he was no match for her. And he was kind to Aoi in his way. He offended Doumeki, and if Doumeki had left him, that would have been fine, since it was what Aoi had wanted. Yashiro likely feels the same about even Niki. When Doumeki did not respond to Niki at the entrance of Tsunakawa’s house, giving priority to guests, Yashiro was the one who responded to her protest instead (ch.42, vol.7).
During this encounter with Mama, Yashiro maintains a poker face and keeps observing her. A woman, a real woman, and a womanly woman enhances Doumeki’s masculinity. Yashiro’s glancing expression can never be interpreted as a resignation but as disgust and jealousy. If that is the case, it would be a progress for him. It can be said that means he is trying to accept his sexuality or himself.
Being asked under Doumeki’s body, “You chose me because you wanted me to do this, right?”, Yashiro’s face turns straight for a moment. A pertinent query. Why did I grab Doumeki? However, he quickly conceals himself behind the familiar masque and retorts that he cannot put much expectation on Kamiya in this facet (Doumeki will provide better pleasure than Kamiya while he does not actually care who does it). Doumeki is listening with a slight tilt of his head. His close-up eyes look unexpectedly temperate. He has received some recognition from Yashiro only for his performance in bed. That would be the answer to Doumeki’s query. Doumeki would like to say... Is that all there? Or, even so, you have gone to Inami, too...
Demonstrating his skills without expression, Doumeki points out that Yashiro has a lecherous body. Then Yashiro barely refutes. That would be another step forward for him. Despite his advocating for ‘lechery,’ now his true face is peeking out from under his persona. Finding traces of bondage on Yashiro’s wrist, which are the marks by Inami, Doumeki clearly shows irritation. He ties Yashiro up and asks if Yashiro likes to be bound or prefers to be treated with tenderness. Yashiro looks to have a straight face again.
Later on, Yashiro cannot stay still, recalling the question. The fluctuation of his persona makes him uneasy. He casually excuses himself and heads for Kido, who has been hiding out. Kido is seemed to be one of the men Yashiro hooked up with at the casino (ch.47). But in less than no time, Doumeki appears on the scene, tosses Kido aside, grabs Yashiro by the arm, and tries to drag him away. The man is there, yet he seems faceless -- as if he is not human. The man grabs Yashiro with such force that his fingers dig into Yashiro’s arm -- unable to resist the force. The man is angry -- Doumeki is critically angry. Yashiro must have had recollections just like these. It dated from when he was seven years old. I think he is getting terrified at the end of chapter 50. He has been supposed to not fear violence or violent sex...

Directed by Thea Sharrock and written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, The Beautiful Game is an all-consuming, magnificently inspirational film that’s bound to leave a mark. Set in England and then Rome, Italy, it’s full of endearing moments left and right that feel both a little familiar and wholly unexpected simultaneously. It’s a gorgeous spectacle people shouldn’t miss, tailor-made for sports fans and possibly even those missing Ted Lasso a little extra.
Starring Bill Nighy, Micheal Ward, Susan Wokoma, Callum Scott Howells, Kit Young, Sheyi Cole, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Robin Nazari, Aoi Okuyama, Cristina Rodlo, Tadashi Watanabe, Kazuhiro Muroyama, and Valeria Golino, every player in The Beautiful Game brings something indescribably heartwarming to the screen. Like similar films within the genre, plenty of moments could’ve easily felt too saccharine or far-fetched. Still, with the inspiration drawn from actual events, every part of the film holds an authenticity that grips the audience right where they need it to.

Let's talk about the series Giri/Haji (2019) aka the most underrated series in Netflix
I literally just finished Giri/Haji and I need to talk about it. Because I don't think I've ever been this...in love with a series since ever.
First things first, I'mma share a little bit how I learned about the series:
I became obsessed with Sophia di Martino after seeing her in Loki, and like anyone with a heart, I looked through her IMDB to find where else can I see her?!
And I stumbled upon Flowers, which is an equally phenomenal series also available in Netflix, and I discovered Will Sharpe.
And lemme tell ya, he's a beautiful piece of mankind and I learned that not only did he write and direct and act in Flowers, but he is also the lucky husband of Sophia.
Then I saw that Will won a BAFTA for his role in Giri/Haji. Learned that it was also in Netflix and a week later (because I wanted to savor it), here we are.
Okay. No-spoiler thoughts first.
If you dig detective series and/or British series and/or Japanese drama, this delicious piece of bilingual media is for you.
If you love the whole "found family" premise, this is for you.
Off the bat, Will's character Rodney is the clear scene stealer of this series. Right from the first episode, you just know you're gonna love him and wanna give him all the love he sorely needs.
I adore that Kenzo isn't written as a macho detective lead. He allows himself to be vulnerable and isn't afraid to get in touch with his emotions.
Of course, as the Japanese man he is, it takes time for him to accept his emotions, but I'm happy he doesn't resort to anger or self-pity to deal with them.
I love how all the women--and I mean all of the women characters--are strong-willed and unapologetic and flawed and fierce and I-will-stab-you-in-the-legs-if-you-grope-me energy. All of em. They take no bull shit and I respect that.
It is particularly nice to see that kind of energy with Japanese women, who are often written as innocent and demure and pure.
My most favorite aspects of this series is its cinematography, its editing, and its storytelling.
The various ways it uses cinematic language and different forms of media to highlight important moments of the story really makes the series a well-crafted show.
My favorite episodes are Episode 3, 4, and 6.
Episode 4 was particularly memorable. It is one of the best flashback episodes I've ever seen and it deepens our perspective of every main character.
My favorite sequence comes in both Episode 6 and Episode 8, the finale.
Despite getting recognized by BAFTA, the show got cancelled after one season.
But you know what?
(Spoiler thoughts start under the cut)
I think it was a smart move to keep it a one-off drama.
Everything actually wrapped up nicely. There's one semi-loose end that I need reassurance about, which is whether Rodney and Sarah (our female lead detective) become friends again and Rodney can fully realize that he is loved by his newfound family.
Apart from that, this is one series where the semi-open ending finale trope works.
I think the whole Ian-might-rat-us-out subplot could have played out better? Or maybe it could not have played out at all? Like, maybe instead of Abbot being at the rooftop, maybe it could have been Ian?
I actually wasn't sure about how we should feel about Ian. I mean, he didn't deserve Sarah, but...he's...not...a bad...person? I mean, a sketchy detective and a bad boyfriend, yes, but it didn't fully read out to me as "don't trust him" or "stay away from him."
Because when Sarah said in the second episode that her ex was a man who did bad things "until he couldn't," I heard that as he physically abused her. Like, that shit of a man.
But...I don't know. Maybe I missed out on something.
Plus, WHO DID PUT THE SNAKE IN SARAH'S LETTER BOX? Was that some kind of sicko prank?! Did one of her neighbors have it as a pet and it accidentally went to her letterbox???
If Ian was worked for the mafia, maybe that would have worked better? Like, switch Vickers, for Ian, maybe?
Gosh, Vickers, am I right? I mean, who would have thought Justin Long would be a part of this?
ROY was a surprise. Did not expect that twist in the finale. I feel bad for him though because he was really just a bloke caught up in a sticky situation. Like, he's not a bad guy, too. He's just in a bad situation.
Huh.
It's like what Kenzo said, huh? "We're not bad people. We're just doing bad things."
Kenzo and Sarah, right? I felt like it wasn't necessary for them to get romantic, but after Episode 3 with that silent exchange, I appreciate that they went that direction.
I also appreciate that Kenzo was fully aware that he is married and Sarah was fully aware of it too. She knew it was the worst way to let light in.
And I'm glad that there was a moment between Kenzo and Rei where they allowed themselves (or at least Rei allowed Kenzo) to go off their separate ways.
I love the detail that Rei was actually in contact with Yuto and Natsuko is an badass old woman who likes to live on the edge.
The way she said, "Then we will fight" when Eiko and Rei worried about the yakuzas. I mean!
Okay, okay. I'mma back up a bit, because the reason why I thought the whole Ian subplot didn't work was because it felt like the writers eventually didn't know what to do with Rodney?
Like, why bring this kind of pain to Rodney?!
But then, you know, thinking about it as I am writing this, we all know Rodney would be with Taki and it might be Rodney who gets in trouble with Jiro.
Ahh, Jiro. That...dangerous specimen.
Glad he didn't kill Toshio.
But still, my biggest concern for the ending of this series is that we leave Rodney at such a low place.
Like, I just need to know that he needs up okay and he reunites with Sarah and Taki and all live together in London now. And Rodney's restarting his life with a better direction in life, but of course struggles with relapse?
Okay, I am seeing now where the second series could have went on. The creator said it would have been a "Rodney-Taki centric" season.
Gosh, so maybe they would have changed genre?! Aaaahhhhh! but who knows? I mean, I imagine the yakuzas are still after the Mori brothers.
But then again, Fukuhara and Endo are dead sooo...
Giri/Haji, right?! It's... It's a great piece of media.
Anyway, if you wanna talk about Giri/Haji, please feel free to send me a message!
PLEASE! Haha. Take care, y'all

Doumeki questioned Yashiro on how long he had been impotent and there's a panel with his fist clenched. Do you think he may have been thinking of Inami saying it was like rape having sex with him, and he got angry thinking of that going on for years. Yashiro said 'If you heard the answer then what', and then switched it up on him, as if he felt his agitation. Do you think Doumeki is done with Inami?
Doumeki has been done with Inami since the moment they met lol. Doumeki’s issues with Inami aren’t just related to Yashiro, they’re also about Aoi. Aoi is a boundary no one is allowed to cross not even Yashiro. I don’t think Yashiro was going to tell Doumeki about Inami raping him because it would cause some issues, like Doumeki attacking Inami, that Doumeki wouldn’t be able to come back from. It is just important to Yashiro that Doumeki knows that Inami means nothing and that it isn’t about his sexual pleasure or desire at all but I think he would prefer to keep the rape to himself for now. In that moment when Doumeki was clenching his fist, I think he was thinking of the 4 years they spent apart. He thought he meant nothing to Yashiro and it turned out that he meant something even if that something was purely sexual. Inami and Doumeki may even be the ones meeting up in the future since Inami seems to like or wants to impress Doumeki or maybe even to spite Yashiro. We can say a lot about Inami but he is a useful source of info. With his info, Doumeki was able to realize that Kai was behind the kidnapping and that Okuyama has disappeared. Again, I do want to reiterate that it is not up to Doumeki to make Inami be gone from Yashiro’s life. If that was the case, beating him would have worked and both Inami and Doumeki are aware that Doumeki can intimidate all he wants but he can’t keep an eye on Yashiro 24/7.
