“There was no denying it, RDA descended back to Pandora after fifteen peaceful years, and the sky people are stronger than ever. Sorrow is brought upon the Na’vi once more as the younger generation is forced abandon their carefree lives in order to steel themselves for hell to come. Will they succeed in becoming formidable warriors after a life worth of tranquility? Can they close their hearts to unleash violence in the name of defending all that is dear to them? Will they cave into the cruelty?
How long will they keep that precious spark of innocence protected?”
.
This was a project I’ve been working on and off with for almost two months and only recently got the energy to finish. I’m unsure if I can commit to writing the fanfiction itself yet, which will cover all of the Sully children and how they’re dealing with the new war in the period in-between the initial return of RDA and recom encounter, but at least I’m done with the cover! The idea is to mimic the comic book covers of the avatar franchise, and I chose Spider for it because Eywa knows he never gets the spotlight.
I wanted said cover to have a dark atmosphere that reflects the seriousness of Omatikaya’s situation and the loss of innocence for the younger cast of characters. The Spider we see here is a Spider that witnessed his home go up in flames and almost lost his family trying to escape Hell’s gate. He’s cried rivers and the only emotion left in him now is anger, so he is ready to kick ass and help the war effort in whatever way he can, which is demonstrated through how he glares the viewer directly in the eye. In this particular scene, by guarding the loot that they’re transporting to high camp via scorpion. The face paint is a variant of the one Trudy wore in the first movie and I saw it fitting for him to paint himself for the coming battle.
.

As you jump on the sky people's ship you could hear your daughter calling out for you, "Mama!" Tuk shouted out. You immediately ran over and began to cut her and Tsireya's cuffs off the railing, "Tsireya get her out of here!" You told the young metkiyana girl. You didn't want your youngest child to be around all this death and destruction, you needed her to be somewhere safe. You didn't want her to be in the hands of the sky people any longer. Tsireya nodded her head and led Tuk into the water so they could swim to safety.
You then began making your way to Lo'ak, "My son are you okay?!" As you cut his cuff and began examining his body for any injuries. "Yes Mama I'm fine" he told you reassuringly so you wouldn't worry. As you looked at him you pulled him close and engulfed him into a hug "Thank you Great Mother" you whispered quietly before pulling back and grabbing his hand, "Come Lo'ak we need to go. It is not safe here" you told him as you pulled him to the other side of the ship.
"Mama! Spider is still in there, we need to save him!" He said as he held onto your wrist so you could stop moving. When he told you this you let out a frustrated hiss. You knew how much your son cared for Spider and you did as well. He was like a son to you so of course you had to save him, "Okay I will go get him but you need to go find Tsireya and Tuk and get to safety!" You told him as you grabbed the nearest loaded gun around you. "Do you understand?!"
"Yes Mama I understand, I'll go find them" Before he left he gave you a quick peck on the cheek before diving into the water. As you began to wander around the sky people's ship a figure walked out in front of you. You immediately aimed your gun towards them as your finger began to pull the trigger, "Y/N! It's just me!" Spider told you with his hand up and glimmers of fear in his eyes.
He's always looked at you as a mother figure. Unlike your mate Neytiri you embraced Spider into your family. You always felt like all he needed was guidance, nurturing, and love so that's what you gave him.
You treated him as if he was one of your children.
Once you realized it was him you immediately put the gun down and pulled him closer to you, "Spider are you okay?! Did the sky people hurt you?! I swear to Eywa if that demon (Quaritch) hurt you I will kill him!" You spoke with an evil glare in your eye as you began frantically looking over his body for any sign of injuries just like you did your son Lo'ak. "No Y/N I'm okay, he didn't hurt me" Once you heard him say that you felt some relief. "Okay good now let's get out of here" You began to walk quietly with Spider right behind you. As both of you started making your way to the open body of water in the middle of the ship, a recom walked in front of you. You immediately pulled the trigger which fired out a small metal bullet that pierced his heart and caused his body to fall limp onto the ground.
As you and Spider continued walking more recoms came toward the two of you. It was three of them and only one of you so you came up with the best plan possible at the moment, "Spider go I'll come right behind you!" Spider nodded his head and jumped into the crystal blue water.
Once you saw Spider swimming away you pulled the trigger and let out multiple rounds of metal bullets at the recoms. When you moved back around the corner they shot back but none of their bullets hit you. You began to shoot at them again and once the clip was empty you began making your escape toward the water. As you jumped over the railing the recoms shot at you once again and as your body hit the water you let out a painful hiss.
As you looked down at your body you saw crimson liquid flowing out your chest which created clouds of red in the aqua-blue water. As you struggled to keep your head above the water you could see Spider swimming toward you and Tsireya riding her ilu, "Y/N what is wrong?" Tsireya asked you as she got off her ilu and swam toward you "I've been shot" you replied breathlessly as you held your chest
Tsireya and Spider's eyes grew wide as they heard you say those words, "Help her up! quick!" Tsireya shouted frantically. Both Spider and Tsireya began lifting your body out of the water and mounted you on the ilu. Tsireya got on in front of you and held your arm over her shoulder while Spider sat behind you holding your body in place, making sure you didn't fall over. Tsireya began riding out in the water to the nearest rock.
She began whispering prayers to Eywa, asking her to keep you alive, asking her to let you continue living among them. You heard Tsireya whispering one last thing before your eyes fluttered shut, "Please Great Mother don't let Y/N die"
Tumblr media
As your eyes began to open you noticed that you were no longer riding the ilu. The next thing you felt were hands on your body lifting you up, "Jake! Lo'ak! Y/N is hurt" you could hear Spider shout as you were going in and out of consciousness. Their ears immediately perked up and began running toward you as they watched Tsireya and Spider lowering your body gently onto the rocks beneath you. "Mama!" Lo'ak shouted with a quivering voice as he ran by your side.
Jake looked over your body and could see where the metal bullet pierced your skin, he lifted you on your side to try and find an exit wound but he didn't see any. The metal bullet was swimming around your insides, causing your body stress and agony. "Jake, Lo'ak" you began looking back and forth between them as your breath began to labor. "I'm here my tìyawn" Jake said as held your head up so it wouldn't lay on the jagged rock. "Yes Mama I'm here" Lo'ak said as tears welled up in his eyes. "Where is Tuk? Where is the rest of the children?" You asked Jake.
You could feel your soul slipping from your grasp, you wanted to say your I love you's before you went completely unconscious."Don't worry they are coming" Jake knew that the girls were still on the ship but he didn't want to tell you because it would've just caused your body more stress.
"Put pressure on your mother's wound!" Jake told Lo'ak as he watched the blood flow down your chest.
As Lo'ak looked at you and felt your blood coating his hand, tears flowed down his blue cheeks "Mama I'm so sorry! This is my fault!"
Lo'ak felt like you were the only one who truly understood him, the only person who saw him for who he was. You saw through your son. You always looked past his rebellious tendencies because you knew that was just a part of who he was. You loved your son unconditionally, no matter how many reckless things he did you still loved him.
You mustered up all the strength you could and raised your arm and began to wipe his tears, "Son this is not your fault okay? Do not blame yourself. This was the sky people's doing not yours" you told him as tears flowed down your face as well. You hated that your son felt guilty for this when it truly wasn't his fault. As you continued reassuring him, Neytiri's ikran settled on the rock and she began walking towards the huddle to see what was going on.
Once she got closer she saw the blood flowing from your wound staining Lo'ak's hands and Jake holding your head. "No no no no" Neytiri said as she walked up and crouched next to you.
"Jake I want to go home, I want to go back to the forest" you cried out to your mate as your breathing became more rapid. "Okay, we're going home" Jake told you as his voice began to tremble. You looked into your other mate's eyes and you could see how Neytiri's heart was breaking right in front of you. "I love you all. I see..." is the last words that fell from your lips before your breathing slowed, eyes shut, and body became still.
You finally drifted into a fully unconscious state.
"Ma Y/N" Neytiri whispered. She didn't want to believe you slipped through her fingers, "No no no! Y/N!" Neytiri screamed out as deep sorrow flowed through her. Jake's ears pinned to the side of his head as he watched Neytiri cry over your body. He wrapped his arms around her and began to attempt to comfort her.
Neytiri's hands held your face as she pulled you into her chest, "Oh great mother, No great mother, Please!" Neytiri said as sobs emerged from her throat. "My mate! No! No! Please great mother you can't do this! you have to bring her back!" Neytiri wailed while rocking your body back and forth.
Everyone else around you was weeping, feeling the absence of you in the atmosphere. Lo'ak was looking down at his hands, looking at your blood that was staining them. He felt like this was his fault, he was the reason you were in this condition. He felt like if he didn't mention rescuing Spider you would be up talking and walking, not laying out unconscious.
Jake felt the same way Neytiri did but he kept his feelings bottled up. He knew that right now he needed to stay strong and deal with his emotions later. He knew that he needed to go get the girls. "Neytiri we need to go" Jake told her as he pulled her toward him. "No I must stay here, I need to be with Y/N" she said as she continued to sob, looking down at the ground.
Her brain could barely function clearly, the only thing she could think about was her mate's unconscious body.
"Listen to me" Jake grabbed her face and made her look into his eyes "They have our daughters. I need you with me. We have to go rescue them. I need you to be strong, you need to have a strong heart. Y/N would want you to have a strong heart" Jake moved his hand and placed it on her chest and Neytiri wrapped her hand around his.
She stood up and grabbed her bow and began walking to her ikran. As she made Tsaheylu her ikran let out a gut-wrenching screech that conveyed the emotions Neytiri was feeling. She flew toward the sky people's ship ready to rain so much havoc and destruction upon them that they would regret coming back to Pandora.
they would regret hurting her mate.
Tumblr media
Jake and Neytiri got the girls back and we're now at the rock moving you onto Tsireya's ilu so they could take you back to the village and get you some help. Lo'ak was sitting behind you and held you up hoping that they could get you to the village in time. Hoping that you would soon gain consciousness again.
Fifteen later they made it to the village and you were brought to Ronal's healing pod. She has been performing numerous healing rituals on you but nothing was working. Everything she tried didn't even scratch the surface of your condition. After Ronal performed her last ritual she called for Jake and Neytiri. "Is she going to be okay? Is she ever going to wake up?" Neytiri asked as her voice cracked at the thought of you never opening your eyes again. Jake just stood next to Neytiri anticipating Ronal's answer.
"She is currently in an unconscious state. She isn't going to die but she is in a coma. The wound she has made her body shut down from the trauma. I have tried multiple rituals but nothing has worked, the only thing you can do is wait until she wakes up. Only Eywa can determine when she will return to us" Ronal told your mates as she finished patching up your wound. Once Ronal finished she left Jake and Neytiri in the healing pod alone so they could talk.
"Ma Jake, what are going to do? We have to look out for the children and they are already falling apart, especially Tuk and Lo'ak. I- I just don't know if I could take care of them right now because I'm falling apart too" Neytiri said as she began to cry while looking at you laying peacefully on a makeshift bed.
Jake knew that Neytiri was hurting and he was hurting too. He hated that the sky people inflicted this upon you. He loathed seeing you in this predicament. It crushed his heart seeing you bleed out on that rock, watching you take such labored breaths until you became unconscious. He didn't show his pain like his mate Neytiri but he felt it immensely.
"I'll take care of the children Neytiri, you just stay here with Y/N. She could wake up any day now and I know she would love for you to be by her side when she wakes up" Jake said with a faint smile. "Thank you Ma Jake" Neytiri told him as she pulled him into her embrace, she was so grateful to have him as a mate. She was thankful that he was there for her and the children. "No need to thank me, we'll get through this together" Jake told Neytiri as he rubbed her back to comfort her.
Both of them knew that it could be a long time before you woke up from your coma but they were going to wait for you no matter how long it takes.
They were ready to have their mate back.
Tumblr media
It's been almost a week since you fell into a coma and you still haven't woken up. Your family has come to visit you every single day. All the children usually came together giving you updates about their life since you've been gone. Tuk always loved telling you about all the new friends she made and showing you the new jewelry she's created. Kiri would tell you about all her oceanic adventures and the new things she's discovered while exploring the open ocean.
Lo'ak and Neteyam would always argue over who would talk to you first before Neteyam gave in and decided to let Lo'ak go first.
Lo'ak would always begin by telling you how much he missed you and how he was anticipating your return. He would then tell you how he hasn't been as reckless and has been improving his behavior so you would be proud of him when you woke up.
After Lo'ak it was Neteyam's turn.
He would tell you about the different ways he was preparing for his metkiyana iknimaya since Tonowari told them they were now officially a part of their clan. Neteyam told you how it was different than how it was in the forest but nonetheless, he was excelling in his training. He then told you how he would remember all the encouraging words you told him when he prepared in the forest and how he enforced those same words this time around.
After the children finished their daily talks with you it was your mate's turn.
Jake would begin telling you how much he missed having you around while Neytiri would just watch over you and hold your hand. He began to reminisce about how him, you, and Neytiri would frolic through the forest until all of you began to grow tired. You would find a patch of moss and all of you would snuggle up together under the beautiful night sky until all of you fell asleep.
Neytiri would then speak about one of her favorite memories of you. One day she saw you were playing with a pack of viperwolves which was something very uncommon because of how vicious they were. But you had a way of connecting with them on a level that no other Na'vi could. That was the exact day she feel in love with you. She knew you were special and it intrigued her.
Everyone in the family noticed there was a void, they could feel a shift in their family dynamic without you. Everyone was ready for you to return.
As of this moment, Neytiri was currently sitting next to you as she weaved you a new shawl for when you woke up. She remembered how much you admired the one Kiri had so she wanted to make one special for you.
As she continued weaving she heard footsteps walking into the pod, "Hello narlor" Jake told Neytiri as he kissed her cheek and sat down next to her. "How are the children doing?" Neytiri has only been home a handful of times since your accident. She wanted to be glued to your side just in case anything happened. "They are fine. They just finished eating breakfast and now they are playing at the shore with Aonung, Tsireya, and Rotxo" Jake told Neytiri as she continued weaving.
Jake and Neytiri continued talking to each other about numerous things as they let the time go by. Neytiri completed the new shawl she created for you and began putting up her weaving materials.
As she continued cleaning Jake went next to your body and began talking to you, "Y/N we all miss you, it's been too long since we heard your voice or felt your touch" He grabbed your hand and held it up to his warm cheek "We all need you. Me, Neytiri and the kids. We need you to come back to us" tears rolled down Jake cheeks as he closed his eyes.
All of his emotions came crashing down on him at once and hit him like a brick wall.
As Jake sat there sniffing Neytiri came alongside him, "Ma Jake don't worry she will wake up soon. The Great Mother will return her to us" She began rubbing his back and soothing him by singing his favorite earth song he taught her.
As she sang the lyrics Jake felt let tense and his cries began to lessen. He found comfort in her singing, he loved hearing her sing an earth song with her heavy Na'vi accent. "Are feeling better now?" She asked him as she watched him wipe away his tears. "Yes much better thank you" Jake responded with a faint smile.
Both of them sat together peacefully as they looked at you laying on the makeshift bed. As they sat there Neytiri leaned her head on Jake's shoulder and Jake grabbed her hand and intertwined it with hers. As they sat there listening to the faint sounds of the ocean waves they heard little footsteps walking inside the pod, "Mom!" Tuk exclaimed as she jump into Neytiri's lap. "Hello, Tuk!" Neytiri smiled as she wrapped her arms around Tuk and began tickling her which made Tuk erupt in laughter.
As Neytiri and Tuk talked and played a little on the other side of the pod Lo'ak crept his way into the pod next to Jake, "Son how are you doing?" Jake asked as he put his hand on Lo'ak's shoulder. "I'll be doing better once Mama wakes up" Lo'ak told his father as he looked at you. As Lo'ak and Jake continued talking while sitting next to you, Tuk and Neytiri came and sat on the opposite side of you.
"Mom? Can we pray to Eywa that she brings Mama back to us?" Tuk asked innocently as she looked up at Neytiri with soft eyes. Neytiri's facial expression softened as she heard Tuk's request, "Of course, we can parultsyìp" Everyone began grasping each other hands as they bowed their heads and closed their eyes. Everyone began whispering prayers in Na'vi hoping that the Great Mother would hear their pleas.
After a few minutes, everyone opened their eyes and began watching over you, hoping that Eywa answered their prayers.
A few seconds later your eyes fluttered open, trying to adjust to the light. As you looked around you could see your mates and your children surrounded you with smiles on their faces because you were awake. You began to cry, letting out loud sobs as tears flowed down your face. Everyone's smiles turned to soft expressions, "Mawey Ma Y/N. It's okay, me and Jake are here for you" Neytiri told you as she caressed your cheek and wiped the tears from your face. "Yes tìyawn me and Neytiri will be here for you every step of the way" Jake began to move a piece of your hair out of your face as he smiled at you
As your mates continued to comfort you, you could see your children at the end of the bed. You had Neytiri and Jake help you sit up so you could properly see them, "Mama! Your back!" Tuk said as she ran and jumped into your embrace. From Tuk jumping on you she hit your wound which Lo'ak noticed, "Tuk be careful! Mama's probably still sore!" He slightly scolded his sister which made you shake your head. Yes, you were sore and Tuk leaping into your arms caused you a little pain but it didn't matter. The only thing that mattered is that you could hug your youngest child again.
"My Son it's okay" you told him while waving him over to join in on the hug "I missed both of you so much" You planted kisses on both of your children's foreheads. "We missed you too" Lo'ak said with a bright smile spreading across his face. He was happy that he has his mother back. He missed you so much and was happy for things to go back to normal again.
"Mama, I'm never leaving your side" Tuk said as she hugged you tighter "I hope not because we have a lot to catch up on" As you continued talking to Tuk you saw Neteyam and Kiri walk inside the pod, "Mama you're awake!" Neteyam exclaimed as he ran over to you. Both Kiri and Neteyam came in full force, wrapping their arms around you.
As you looked around you felt so much love in the atmosphere. You were so overwhelmed with joy that you were able to see and hug your family again.
You we’re thankful Eywa brought you back to them.

Mowglie!Spider and the Skimwings
(For anyone who doesn’t know this is my au where Spider was raised by the animals of Pandora and Eywa)
(More Mowglie!spider here here here Here here and also here (I’ve only just learned how to link things I’m so proud 😭😭 don’t judge me))
Summary: feral Spider greets a skimwing for the first time and gives everyone a heart attack except Tuk of course because she has priorities people ;)
Jake sighed in relief as his family was finally granted Uturu. The frantic beating of his heart had finally calmed down when he turned to smile at the reset of his family, only to notice someone was missing.
“Where Spider?” Jake tired to keep the panic from his voice as he gazed at his children and his mate, hoping his tiny feral son had just gotten distracted by something behind them and was blocked from his view.
Four pairs of eyes gazed at him in panic before they quickly began scanning the circle the Metkeyina had formed around them.
Kiri quickly ducked down to check if Spider had crawled under one of the Ikrans again, Lo’ak and Neteyam were frantically questioning the nearest villagers and Neytiri was trying her best to see past everyone’s heads and spot the boy.
Sadly, even as the crowd dispersed they were no closer to finding their human son.
“Demon! Get out of the water!!” Ronal yelled out.
Ronal, Tonowari and the Sullys instantly raced to the shallow water.
Jake felt his heart shoot up to his throat and lock into place.
Spider had waded out into the water until it reached just below his armpits, and was stood directly in front of a huge skimwing that Tonowari had rode in on, god, it had so so many teeth.
“No!” Tonowari yelled as the skimwing moved closer to Spider.
“Spider don’t!” Jake shouted desperately as he saw his son stretch his hands out.
Sadly, it seemed Spider had spent enough time with Jake’s kids to have learnt to ignore his presence completely.
Jake almost felt his soul leave his body as Spider trailed his small hands over the skimwing’s closed mouth.
The skimwing growled quietly before it quickly snapped it’s jaw, startling Spider and making him jump up slightly in the water. Jake prayed that would be enough to send his reckless son running back to the shore, but alas, his feral boy only furrowed his brow and growled back at the animal.
“Spider! Come here!” Neytiri pleaded, hoping her son wouldn’t test the animal again, only to also be completely ignored.
Spider glared as the skimwing went to snap again only to bare his teeth and……bop it lightly on the nose with his fist….Spider stared deep and unblinkingly into the animals eyes until….it huffed in acceptance!?
Spider’s eyes lit up as the animal conceded before he moved even closer.
Jake was almost sure he’d lost his mind as he watched his son trail his hands all over the animals skin, sticking his small fingers repeatedly through its incredibly sharp teeth as the skim wining seemed to playfully splash the boy with water every time it shook its head.
The skimwing seemed almost amused as it let the boy manhandle it’s face for a few moments, only to then splash Spider by raising its head and slapping it to the water, sending the boy into a fit of laughter as his hair was drenched.
Spider was just about to attempt to climb onto the skimwing’s back when Tuk wriggled free of Jakes arms and called out to him.
“Spideeeerrrrrr!” The littlest Sully called out disapprovingly.
Spider’s head snapped to her direction instantly, only to tilt to the side like a confused puppy when the the little girl huffed and placed her hands on her hips.
“Come back here! Your not supposed to wonder off without meeeeee” Tuk called back with a hint of a whine.
Spider pat the skimwing’s snout as a quick goodbye before he quickly began making his way back to shore.
Jakes eyes briefly flickered to his family, taking solace in the fact that his mate and sons seemed to be in the same boat as him.
Nytiri looked moments from passing out with worry, Lo’ak had slumped to the floor and Neteyam gripped his forehead for dear life in hopes of try to rid himself of what Jake assumed was a migraine.
Kiri however, seemed entirely too amused as she watched as Spider finally reached Tuk.
“You should have waited for me, we could have gone together ” Tuk huffed before Spider pressed his forehead to hers for a moment, only to then pat her head apologetically.
Tuk giggled slightly as Spider ruffled her hair, all annoyance vanished as she instantly accepted the boy’s apology.
“Did you have fun monkey boy?” Kiri asked as she walked over and pushed Spider’s head lightly, gaining the boy’s attention.
Spider looked up at her and grinned before giving and exaggerated nod.
“Did you like the teeth?” Kiri asked fondly, seemingly uncaring about how dangerous said teeth were.
“Sharp!” Spider grinned and flashed his own teeth, Kiri laughed and ruffled the boy’s messy hair.
“Spider, dude, I thought I was gonna have a heart attack” Lo’ak moaned as he finally dragged himself to his feet and draped himself over Spider.
“For the love of Eywa! Please stop doing that!” Neteyam sighed as he made his way over.
Jake hadn’t quite recovered from watching his son voluntarily put his hand in a skimwing’s mouth, lucky it seemed Tonowari was fairing no better.
If Jake wasn’t still reeling, he would have laughed at Tonowari’s shocked face and practically bulging eyes, the man’s hand was clutched over his heart in hopes of staving off a heart attack.
Jake almost felt sorry for the guy, he was gonna have to get used to that reaction real quick, seeing as all Jake’s kids had apparently decided make it their life’s mission to send him to an early gave.
•••
Sorry didn’t know how to end that besides I’m ready to sleep 😅
Still suffering from block but hoping that wasn’t to bad!
My asks are open & questions & suggestions welcome because I have very little idea what I’m doing at all times 😅😅
Hope you enjoyed lovelies♥️

i'm sorry (happier part 2)
Tumblr media
A/N: I was not expecting the amount of positive feedback for the first part and I was even more surprised to see people asking for a part 2! It was originally created to be a one-shot but a part 2 really fit well with how the first one ended. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you again for all of the love and support! I hope you all enjoy. I also want to thank my friend, @tummymoth, they really helped me flush out and refine my rusty ass writing (also let me word vomit at them till midnight sometimes).
Pairing(s): Past Lo’ak x Omatikayan!Reader, Ao’nung x Omatikayan!Reader, Slight mentions of Lo’ak x Tsireya
Warnings: Lo'ak's POV, Swearing, Ao'nung saying something sus ONE time
More Info: My vision for this part 2 was to create a reply in Lo'ak's pov. So we'll have a look at what he experienced and thought process (not too sure if any of that made sense) but I was inspired by Joshua Bassett's song "i'm sorry" and it played constantly as I wrote this. Hopefully I was able to do right by my idea haha.
Summary: 7,547
Part 1: Happier
Key:
(Y/N) = Your Name
Lyrics = Bolded Italics
Flashbacks = Italics
Na'vi Words:
Yuey - beautiful (refers to a person)
Skxawng - idiot/moron
Marui - Pods where the Na’vi live
Ilu - sea creature similar to dolphins
Ikran - dragon-like creature
Tulkun - sentient creatures similar to whales
Olo’eyktan - clan leader/ chief
I thought about what I would say
But I’m two years too late
I can’t imagine how you’re doing these days, hmm
Sure, it wasn’t perfect back then
I’ll be first to admit
But it was better than being strangers again, oh
It had been a couple of months since my interactions with (Y/N) dwindled to terse smiles and barely audible greetings. If you asked me to point out the moment our friendship started to change, I couldn’t tell you. When did our bond start to break? When did it even start to crack? We used to talk every day about all the things we did and planned what pranks to pull on everyone, but now? Now, she barely looked in my direction. Now, she wouldn’t even give me the time of day.
I couldn’t remember when it started, but I knew that it was somehow my fault I grew distant once we arrived in Awa'atlu. I guess I was just so fascinated by the new environment and people, I didn’t even realize a rift started to form between us in the first place, much less that it started to grow.
The night before we left to find a new home, I held (Y/N) as she let out sobs filled with fear and anxiety. It broke my heart, but all I could do was hold her and let her cry until she was calm enough to tell me what was on her mind.
“I-I am afraid, what if the sky people come to find us again? I cannot lose any of you; it would break me into a million pieces,” she sobbed.
“If they find us then we will fight and we will win,” I reassured her, gently rocking her back and forth.
“You are an idiot, I was so close to losing you, to losing Kiri, Tuk, how do you think it would make me feel to lose the most important people in my life?” she sniffled. My chest ached at how broken she sounded, but the only thing I could do was assure her and offer her more words of comfort as I held her in my arms.
“I promise that I will be with you throughout the journey as will my family. We love you, and even if you do not believe it, you are a Sully. And you know what my dad always says.”
“Sullys stick together,” we chorused.
That night, I cradled her in my arms until she fell asleep.
Fuck, I completely broke my promise to her, how could I forget? Shaking my head, I tried to reason to myself, “Maybe she just needs time alone. I’m sure she’ll come running back soon once she realizes that it's no fun without me, her best friend.” I felt a small, unfamiliar feeling in the pit of my stomach. “Right?”
I’m drunk too late talking to the moon
Writing songs I can’t sing to you, ‘cause
“Bah! Stop lying, I know you (Y/N). You would have fought alongside me and defended Kiri. You are not the same girl I knew in the forest back home,” I muttered, rolling my eyes and getting up to leave. Honestly, who did she think she was fooling? The skxawng had the balls to insult Kiri, and all she did was sit back and watch. She didn’t even make a move to help until it was to help him by pulling me off. “Talk to me when you’ve come back to your senses,” I called over my shoulder, refusing to look back.
“Lo’ak! Bro—” a hand roughly grabbed my shoulder, jolting me out of my daze, “why’re you just staring off like that?” I whipped my head to see who the hell it was that was bothering me, only to be met with Neteyam.
“Did you have to grab me that hard?” I hissed before my initial anger gave way to a heavy feeling. “It's nothing, just—just lost in thought” I sighed, shrugging his hand off my shoulder.
“Right, sure, nothing.” he crouched down beside me. “Don’t think you can lie to me lil bro, you’ve been spacing out more than you usually do. I didn’t even think it was possible to be more empty-headed than you already are,” he stated.
“Wha—no I haven’t,” I tried to argue, but of course, he wasn’t convinced.
“Can you stop arguing with me for once and just tell me what’s going on with you, you skxawng?”
I scrunched my nose in distaste and inhaled sharply, “(Y/N) and I have been…  distant,” I admitted, turning to look at him. “She won’t even look at me. She either only answers me with one word or doesn’t answer at all.”
He nodded, motioning for me to continue.
“I—the last time we talked, I said things I didn’t mean. Things that just came out because I was so frustrated and… and angry. It was the heat of the moment and I—”
“What did you say skxawng, did you hurt her?” Neteyam interrupted, face twisting to show the beginnings of distaste.
“No, no—” I sputtered and raised my hands to calm him before he could go on an hour-long lecture that I absolutely was not in the mood to hear. “At least I don’t think I did… I just wanted to ask her why the hell she was helping fish lips, that’s all—”
“You didn’t answer me Lo’ak, what did you say to (Y/N)? I don’t care why you did it, I want to know what you said to elicit such a reaction from her.” By Eywa, if he would just give me a chance to get to the point—
“I—I told her that she was not the same girl that I knew back in the forest..." my ears lowered as the weight of what I said slowly sunk in. “And that she could talk to me once she came back to her senses,” I whispered, internally cringing at my harsh words..
“You fucking skxawng—”
“Can you stop calling me that? I already know, you don’t need to keep repeating it…” I scoffed, looking out into the ocean. I’m good enough at beating myself up over the hundreds of times I’ve messed up in this lifetime, I didn’t need another disappointed set of eyes on me.
My ears twitched at the deep sigh he let out. “Look, I’m sorry that I keep calling you skxawng but that is exactly what you are for saying something so hurtful to your best friend of all people. The two of you were inseparable the moment you were born. Even if you don’t want to, suck up your dumbass pride,” my ears flattened again. It wasn’t pride, I’m not prideful. It—it was me needing (Y/N) on my side. We used to always be on the same page, and when she said I was wrong for wanting to defend Kiri against those assholes, it felt like she was siding with them instead of me, and—
Okay, so maybe it was pride.
“Admit that you were wrong, and go talk to (Y/N),” Neteyam insisted as he put a reassuring arm around my shoulders, jostling me around to prove a point. “Your friendship is so much stronger and Eywa knows that a heat-of-the-moment argument isn’t going to break that. You should have more faith in her.” His gaze sharpened before he schooled his expression into something calmer. “Just talk to her, yeah?”
“...Yeah,” I mumbled, swallowing down whatever argument was trying to bubble up from my throat and prying his arm off me. “You’re right. I’ll just clear things up with her and apologize. Everything will go back to normal after that, thanks bro—for listening,” I agreed.
Ever since that day
The things I didn’t say They haunt me, oh
And I know that I’m to blame
So, go ahead and
Blame it on me, oh
Our lessons on the ways of the Metkayina were finished, so it was rare for the entire group to be in the same place. But every once in a while, we all finished our chores at the same time and found ourselves near the shore where we first learned to ride the ilu, and sat around a fire hours before eclipse, laughing and exchanging stories.
The rarity of these moments made me cherish them that much more, but two people continued to miss our not-so-scheduled gatherings the past two moon cycles. How was it possible that they were the only two to keep missing our hangouts? Were they together? Fish lips had better not be doing anything to (Y/N) or so hel—
“(Y/N)! Ao’nung! You guys made it!” Rotxo laughed.
“Yeah, yeah, quit shouting will you?” Ao’nung shot back as he sat down next to Rotxo, (Y/N) smiling softly as she followed.
“So, what’ve you guys been up to? We haven’t seen you in what feels like ten moon cycles.” Neteyam questioned.
“Teyam, you saw me earlier today, you literally helped me feed our ikran,” (Y/N) joked. ‘Teyam? When did she start calling him by anything other than his given name?
Ao’nung swatted her side with his stupidly wide tail and swung an arm around her shoulder with a remarkably punchable smile on his face “More like he was trying to make sure you didn’t accidentally give them your fingers for breakfast. They would’ve gotten indigestion.”
“Haha very funny Ao’nung,” she drawled, “I would’ve fed you to Tekay instead, but she would’ve gagged the moment she caught a whiff of you,” she scoffed as she quickly pushed him away by the chest.
“Wait… Do they even have a gag reflex?” Fish lips didn’t budge, he just had a dumb look of confusion on his face.
“No, but they would defy the laws of biology to gag just for you,” she quipped, sticking out her tongue and moving to push him away again, but the skxawng had the nerve to pull her into a headlock.
“Oh, yuey, the ikran won’t be the only ones gagging on me tonight,” he argued with a smirk.
Did I want to punch that smirk off his face? Did I want to gag? Both? Before I could make a decision, (Y/N) grimaced, pushing him away again and smacking him upside the head.
“That’s actually repulsive. You’re disgusting.”
“Dude, keep it in your pants, her family is right there,” Rotxo laughed, doubled over as he struggled to catch his breath.
“Yeah, we’re right here,” I interjected with a smile—wanting to join in on the jokes that were being thrown around—but it was hard to keep my face from falling when I saw (Y/N)’s bright expression falter.
“Anyway, what were you guys talking about before Ao’nung and I arrived?” she asked in a too-bright tone of voice she only used when she desperately wanted to change the subject. As if everyone came to an unspoken agreement to forget about the conversation before, one by one they all started talking about who they thought would win in a fight—Toruk Makto, or our Olo’eyktan, Tonowari.
The sound of laughter and excited chatter faded as I replayed the previous conversation in my head. When did they start joking around like that? Why the hell did fish lips call her yuey like it was the most natural thing in the world? How come she smiled so easily with him but faltered when she sees me? She was probably smiling with him right now—
I looked over at her, a pit in my stomach already forming at the idea of her smiling at him, but she looked so distant, so withdrawn from everything around her. Before I could even blink, she put a delicate hand on Ao’nung’s arm to grab his attention and mumbled something in a hushed tone. After a few beats of silent conversation, Ao’nung nodded and gave her a look of understanding.
Why did he look at her like that? How much time did they spend together to be able to understand each other with just a look? How much time have I wasted breaking my promise to her while she grew closer to someone else?
Standing up, I made up my mind that I would talk to her and clear up any miscommunication. There was no way in hell I was about to let fish lips ruin our childhood friendship. Before I could even get close, Neteyam pulled me aside.
“Bro, why’re you glaring at everyone?” he asked with concern written all over his face.
“Glaring?” I tilted my head in confusion. “I’m not glaring, this is just my face.”
“No, no.” He shook his head. “I’m your brother, I know your face. Whatever look you’ve been throwing at Ao’nung and (Y/N)? You may as well have been throwing knives at them.”
Behind Neteyam, I could see (Y/N) get up to bid everyone good night and slowly walk in our direction. This was my chance, I just needed this overbearing idiot to leave me alone.
“Whatever look you think I’m giving to them, you’re wrong,” I denied. “Can you not act like this right now?” My tail flicked side to side impatiently, an obvious twinge of annoyance clear in my tone. I licked my lips nervously as I could hear footsteps coming closer. Leaning slightly to the side, I looked behind Neteyam to see (Y/N) and—
Ao’nung? What? Why is he there?
“Good night,” (Y/N) muttered, not sparing us a glance as she walked past. I followed her every move and—as if everything slowed down—my eyes narrowed as they found Ao’nung’s hand placed on her lower back, leading her gently in the direction of the marui.
I know that I’m too late
But I’ll say it anyway
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Though it's far too late
“I did it! Did you see that Reya?” I shouted—out of breath—as I showed off the shell Tsireya threw.
“Yes, yes you did it!” She exclaimed, excitedly wrapping her hand around mine. For someone who spent so much time underwater, her hand radiated so much warmth. So easy to hold. My heart swelled with pride as she continued to compliment me. “You’ve improved so much!”
“Yeah? Well, I had a great teacher,” I joked, nudging her softly with my shoulder. It wasn’t just her hands that were warm either, she just seemed to radiate it.
“Oh stop, you flatter me too much,” she denied, fidgeting with her hair. Was that a blush on her face? “C’mon, why don’t we catch up with the others? Private lessons are officially done for the day,” she announced as she led me to shore. Oh Eywa, she looked so pretty like this, with her hair flowing down her back and the way her eyes cast down when she became flustered. And her smile, it was a smile that could knock the air out of my lungs.
While we walked onto shore, we joked around and laughed with each other, talking about anything and everything. The ease of each reply and joke came as smoothly as gliding through the water on an ilu—as easy as breathing. Laughing at another one of Tsireya’s jokes, my eyes scanned the village as we approached it. Families were winding down for the day as they cooked dinner, although I didn’t see mine anywhere nearby aside from Kiri.
My smile slowly dropped when I was able to make out Kiri looking frantically around as if she was searching for someone. Tsireya and I made our way to her, worry filling the pit in my stomach. As we got closer, I could see Ao’nung climb down one of the roots of the Mangrove trees and make a beeline toward her. My eyes stayed on both of them, making sure that fish lips didn’t do anything to Kiri.
Ears twitching I was able to make out the words, “(Y/N)? Did you find her? ” from Kiri as they were carried on the wind toward us.
“Yeah I did, I was able to get her to eat, but she’s not looking too good,” Ao’nung replied with concern lacing his voice.
Brows furrowing, I pulled Ao’nung by the shoulder. “What do you mean she’s not looking good? Where is she? What did you do?”
“What the hell do you mean? I didn’t do shit, freak.” I rolled my eyes at the insult. He couldn’t use that thick head of his to think of anything else to call me? From the pained look on his face, I could tell that my grip on his shoulder had too much pressure. Good. Served him right.
Before Ao’nung and I could continue our argument Kiri groaned, “Will the both of you skxawng shut up! I’ll go talk to her.” My eyes followed her retreating form as she went to talk to (Y/N)—tail lashing back and forth in agitation all the while—before turning back to Ao’nung.
Who the hell did he think he was? I’d beat his skxawng ass if he hurt (Y/N) in any way. He had no right to look so damn worried. They weren’t even close. What even happened? How long had she been missing for Kiri to go to fish lips of all people for help? Should I follow Kiri? Why didn’t (Y/N) come to me? She always came to me, and if she came to me now, I absolutely would have listened. Why—
“Lo’ak? Hey, are you okay? Lo’ak?” a hand softly placed itself on my arm. Closing my eyes in frustration, I sighed.
“Yeah, perfectly fine.”
Damn it, was that when it started? How idiotic and blind have I been that I didn’t even notice that her trust in me started to slip and die when it was right in front of me? Why didn’t I go to her and make sure she was okay? I should’ve punched that idiot’s lights out—
“Ao’nung! Stop pulling me you skxawng, you’re walking too fast, slow down!” a hushed voice chastised.
“C’mon yuey, we only have about an hour before eclipse, we have to hurry!” His voice grated against my ears as he responded.
“That’s plenty of time!” (Y/N) insisted. I could hear the laughter bubbling up in her voice as she chased after him. “Please Ao’nung slow down, I can’t keep up.”
“It can’t be helped, you’re so short—” a whack could be heard. “Ow!”
“I’m as tall as Tsireya, you giant!”
“Both you and my sister are short—Ow! Alright, just because you did that, you leave me no choice,” Ao’nung said, throwing (Y/N) over his shoulder with a laugh.
The bickering voices got closer, and my eyes narrowed at the way he held her. My breath hitched as he whispered something in her ear that made her ears perk up and her eyes widen. What the hell was he saying to her? Before I could spring up from my spot, Ao’nung tossed (Y/N) in the water, her yelp quickly interrupted by the sound of her body hitting the water.
I stayed in my spot as shock zipped through my body. Letting out a breath I didn’t know I held, her head popped out of the water, a playful glare on her face.
“I told you, you left me no choice,” he stated, guffawing at her expression.
“Oh yeah?” she groused, spitting out seawater as she wrung out her hair. “Well fuck you too. Help me out of here?”
“Only if you say the magic word,” he taunted, crossing his arms with a smirk. “Otherwise, I’m afraid my hands are tied.”
“Please, oh great son of our Olo’eyktan, help me out of the ocean,” she beckoned dramatically, sarcasm dripping from every word while she rolled her eyes. “It’s about time you recognized my proud lineage, forest dweller,”  he said as his chest puffed out with a hand reaching towards (Y/N). And there was that stupid smile on his face.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes, a mischievous smile spreading across her face as she reached for his hand, making sure to tug with enough force to unceremoniously yank him into the water.
“So much for the son of a great warrior! Your instincts are shit!”
“My instincts are dull you say?” he questioned as his head popped up next to her. “We’ll see about that!”
“Wha—AHHH—'' she wheezed. “No, please Ao’nung stop! That tickles!” Her arms flailed wildly in an attempt to free herself from his grasp.
What the fuck.
My ears flattened at an angle as I tried to process the scene unfolding before me. When did she start laughing with him? That should’ve been me she was laughing with. Not him, not the skxawng who had been nothing but rude to us since we arrived. What… what was I even saying—Fuck I didn’t know anymore. Why did I feel like this every time I saw them together… laughing and making jokes like we used to?
And it was me, it wasn’t you
It’s cliche, but it’s true
I wasn’t thinking how I usually do, oh
And is your momma doing well?
Or does she still hate me?
But it was hard to watch me put you through hell
I’m drunk, too late, talking to the moon, ooh
Writing songs I can’t sing to you, ‘cause
Two weeks had passed since I started noticing the changes in (Y/N)’s relationship—friendship?—with Ao’nung. It was like every time I blinked, I could see her laughing loudly as Ao’nung tickled her with a triumphant smile on his stupid face. Since that day, I had been trying to find a way to talk to (Y/N), but she was never alone. She was always with him and when she wasn’t, she disappeared and I couldn’t find her no matter how hard I looked.
Now here I was, wandering around trying to look for her as I rehearsed what I wanted to tell her.
Where could she be? Dinner was in an hour and she wasn’t anywhere near our marui. I had to find her soon so there would be enough time for us to talk. I had to tell her that I miss her, that I was sorry for being so dumb, that I shouldn’t have let my pride blind me, and that I didn’t mean any of the things I said.
There was only one place I hadn’t looked yet… hopefully she was there.
As I was getting closer to the root Kiri stalked to, I could see two silhouettes beside each other. An all-too-familiar feeling bloomed in my chest once I registered that she was there with him.
Her melodic laughter made my steps falter. I clenched my fists tightly, contemplating if I should go over there and pull her away, force her to talk to me, to listen. But I couldn’t, I couldn’t do that to her, not when she looked so content, so happy.
Ever since that day
The things I didn’t say
They haunt me, oh
I know that I’m to blame
So, go ahead and
Blame it on me, oh
“Lo’ak? You said you were going to look for (Y/N) and never came back. She’s already in the marui helping mom cook,” Kiri stated, a twinge of annoyance lacing her voice. “Hey, are you listening?” She shook my arm slightly, making me jump out of my stupor.
“Yeah, sorry, you said dinner was ready?” I asked as I stared off.
The sand beside me crunched softly as Kiri made a move to sit beside me. “No, I said that (Y/N) is with mom helping her cook. Where is your head at?” she asked as she tilted her head to try and meet my gaze. “Are you alright?” The annoyance in her voice shifted to concern.
“I’m fine, yep—just… fine,” I brushed her off, hoisting myself up to head towards Mom and Dad for dinner before Kiri yanked me back down.
“Lo’ak, don’t pretend you’re okay when you’re not. Tell me what’s going on,” she urged. “Maybe I can help you with whatever it is that’s occupied your mind lately.”
I inhaled sharply, debating if I should tell her what had been muddying my mind, the reason why I had been so spaced out, why I had been glaring daggers at fish lips each time I saw his stupid face next to (Y/N)—how confused I was.
“Stop with the thinking skxawng, you might hurt yourself,” she admonished. “Just tell me. It’s not like I can’t handle it.”
Huffing, I rolled my eyes and turned away from her to look at the sea. I hadn't even said anything yet and Kiri was already making me feel idiotic. How was I supposed to tell her what's been going on like this? Maybe if I kept quiet for long enough, she would get tired of waiting for me to start talking and go on to eat dinner without me.
A couple of minutes of silence passed.
I could still feel her staring at me.
“I’ve—I’ve been conflicted,” I started, tongue feeling heavy in my mouth as I continued to stare at the shoreline. “I don’t know what I’m feeling.”
“What do you mean?” Kiri nudged my shoulder with hers. “Elaborate a little more, I can’t help if you don’t tell me the reason why you’re feeling confused.”
“...Whenever I see (Y/N) with Ao’nung, it’s as if I can feel my heart aching,” I said, motioning toward my chest to prove my point. “There’s always a… a surge of anger that rushes through me. All I want to do is pull her away from him so then everything can go back to the way things used to be—for us to be okay.”
“Lo’ak…” If I was looking at her, I’d probably see Kiri tilt her head with sympathy. But sympathy isn’t what I needed right now.
“I want her to look at me and smile, to laugh with me, hug me—but now, whenever I get close to her, she’s next to him, laughing with him, cracking the jokes we would make to each other… I just—” I rubbed at my face in frustration. It wasn’t as if the words were hard to come by—I had spent so much time bottling them up that it was hard to stop talking. No, I just hated the fact that I felt this way in the first place. “I don’t understand why seeing them makes me feel like my heart is about to explode—why it makes me want to scream. It hurts.”
“Lo’ak” she put a hand on my shoulder. “Are you—are you in love with (Y/N)?”
Love?
I sputtered in surprise and whipped my head toward Kiri to see if she was joking or not. What kind of a sick question was that? I wasn’t in the mood for any games.
“What? No, she’s like my… sister?”
She rolled her eyes and sighed. “If you’re not, then why does seeing her with Ao’nung hurt you so much? Why do you care as much as you do?”
“I shouldn’t!” I wrenched my shoulder away from her hand and stood up. The need to move around and do something—anything—was too much. There was too much energy thrumming right beneath my skin to sit still anymore.
“That’s the problem! After everything I said to her, done to her? I don’t have the right to say I’m in love with her. She’s my childhood friend, Kiri. That’s all our relationship has ever been… I just—” I paused in thought and tried to calm down. “I didn’t realize seeing her have so much fun with someone else would make me feel so, so hollow—”
“Let me ask you something, you have to promise to be completely honest with me, okay?”
I nodded, not even looking in her direction.
“When (Y/N) tried to pull you off from Ao’nung that one fight months ago, what did you feel? Angry? Betrayed? Jealous?”
Jealous? Did she really think I was sulking for months because of such a petty feeling? I’m not a jealous person. I never have been.
“Seeing her jump in to get me off him made me feel like she was siding with him and telling me that I was wrong. Her actions were clear as day to me, Kiri.” I started to pace around. “She was protecting him—caring for him when she should’ve been next to me, helping and supporting me. When she did that—I felt like the only person that’s ever been on my side—” I croaked and turned my head to look at Kiri as tears stung my eyes “The only person who didn’t see everything I did as some sort of disappointment or failure, abandoned me and chose someone else.”
“...”
“I know that I could’ve approached her a different way but how could I when I felt so broken?” I inhaled sharply, eyebrows furrowed. “ It’s all fish lips’ fault. If he wasn’t such an asshole, none of this would have happened, and (Y/N) and I would still be the same, she would still be by my side—supporting me, loving me.”
“Why do you keep blaming it on Ao’nung?”
“Because it is his fault that things have turned out the way it has.” I threw my hands up, exasperated. What wasn’t Kiri getting? “He’s getting in between my relationship—er—friendship with (Y/N)! If he wasn’t there I would be able to talk to her and tell her I’m sorry, but she’s always with him—”
“Stop! Are you hearing yourself?” She nudged at my foot to interrupt and scoffed. “You’re unbelievable, you know that? (Y/N) told me what you said to her, how ‘she wasn’t the same girl’ you knew back in the forest. Do you know what happened when you told her that? Do you know how much pain she was in?”
Pain? I snorted, turning towards Kiri. “Now I know what you’re saying is bullshit. You know how (Y/N) is—if she really was pissed at me she would’ve come to me instead of running to someone else.”
“She wasn’t pissed. She cried because of you, Lo’ak. Because of what you said.” I stopped dead in my tracks to look at her. Kiri's eyes didn’t waver. Another heavy feeling settled on my chest and clawed its way up my throat. If you had asked me what it was, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you. Was I sad? Guilty? Angry? Was I jealous like she said?
I settled on anger.
“If you’re saying what I think you’re saying—”
“The person that found her that night, the one who comforted her? That was Ao’nung. He held her in his arms as she sobbed when I found them.” She stood up too, forcing me to stop pacing.
“The last thing I want to hear about right now is him, Kiri. What the fuck—”
“Did you ever think about why she’s so comfortable with him now? Why they’re so close? While you ignored her for weeks, he made sure she was okay—made sure she ate every day. He didn’t leave her side until she finished,” Kiri pointed out, and before I could even think to open my mouth to remind her how shitty he was to her especially, she cut me off. “Yes, he was an asshole at the beginning, and yes he has a screwed-up way to show he cares, but he stepped up when you fucked up.” She poked my chest with a glare before she continued.
“Oh, so I’m a fuck-up now?” I asked wryly.
“You can’t put all the blame on someone that took care of your best friend. Stop being so blinded by your pride and hatred and see that you’re the real reason why your relationship with (Y/N) isn’t the same as it used to be.”
My heart sank a little more as I scrambled for something to say. “How could you say that—”
“No, you do not get to interrupt me right now, Lo’ak.” Her eyes flashed with something closer to anger than annoyance. When was the last time I saw her angry? “Listen and listen well. When we couldn’t find (Y/N) and we were looking for her everywhere—he was the one that found her spot, the one she isolated herself to so she could cry alone, and no one would see how much pain she was in. And what were you doing in the meantime?”
My ears flattened at her rising tone, and I was finally beginning to understand the weight stuck in my throat and chest. Not anger, not even jealousy.
“You were out there with Tsireya, stuck in your own little world.”
It was my fault.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy that you found her but you can’t have both of them. You can’t be that selfish. From (Y/N)’s perspective, you’ve already chosen the one you want.”
“It’s not like I’ve actually chosen anyone yet,” I tried to interject, but all the fight had left my voice as Kiri’s words dug into my skin and sunk in.
“Don’t you dare play with either of their feelings. (Y/N) held so much love for you in her heart, she allowed herself to break to the point of no repair because she didn’t want to show you how much it hurt her to see you at your happiest with Tsireya.” She paused before continuing, her voice losing its edge. “Let her move on, brother. And if it’s Ao’nung that makes her light up the way she used to, then you suck it up and let him. He was there when your pride wouldn’t even let you apologize or even look in her direction. Actually think about how she feels for once.”
I hated the fact that there wasn’t anything I could say to prove her wrong.
“It’s all I’ve been thinking about nowadays,” I muttered.
I know that I’m too late
But I’ll say it anyway
I’m sorry
I’m sorry, hmm
I’m sorry
Though it’s far too late
“I thought I was already doing that,” a faint voice huffed in annoyance. Turning the corner, I saw Ao’nung and (Y/N) standing on the beach together— far too close for my liking.
“You were, but you got sloppy. Here, you have to move your hips like this,” he said as he corrected her posture. My ears flattened against my head as he put a hand on her hip and gently directed her movement.
Why did he look so gentle with her?
“Ao’nung,” (Y/N)’s voice rang out, clear as crystal despite her uncertain tone. “Are you sure you should be teaching me this? This is a traditional Metkayina dance, right? I’m…” she hesitated, her voice becoming smaller. “I’m not Metkayina—”
“Yet.” He interrupted, holding her face in his hands. “You are not Metkayina yet. Once you become one of us, you will have to learn the dance to celebrate the return of our spirit brothers and sisters, so why not learn that now?” I hated how reassuring his voice was. The thought of how either of their eyes looked as they held contact made my stomach turn.
“Yeah… you’re right,” she mumbled with an unsure look on her face.
“Woah, hey pretty girl, look at me,” he insisted, laying his hands on her shoulders and bending his neck so they were at eye level. “I’m serious when I say you will become Metkayina one day, so don’t worry yourself over it right now. Okay?” Ao’nung tilted his head to the side, an unbelievably soft expression on his face. “You have me here to help you.”
“Alright…” (Y/N) mumbled, not convinced.
“If you don’t get rid of that look on your face I’ll throw you into the water,” he said as his face shifted from sincerity to something mischievous. “Or worse… I’ll tickle you,” he threatened.
“You better not Ao’nung, or I swear to the Great Mother herself I will hu—AHH—get away, you skxawng!'' She laughed as she tried to run away, but Ao’nung grabbed hold of her waist and pulled her into his arms. And despite her words of protest, it was clear as day that she was leaning into him while they scuffled on the sand.
“No!” she shrieked with glee. “You can’t make me go in there again!”
“I wouldn’t be so sure of that, forest dweller!”
A thought occurred. Should I go up to them? We never got the chance to talk, after all. I took a few steps in their direction before freezing. When was the last time I heard her laugh like that? She had the biggest smile on her face, and the one who made that happen wasn’t me—it was him.
And if you ever hear this
I hope you know that
I’m not proud of who I’ve been, ooh
And if I see you again
I hope you know that
I wish you nothing but the best
And my biggest regret
The afternoon was quiet, relative silence only interrupted by the crashing of waves. Without much to do, I just sat in our marui and lazed around with Tuk until a horn blew.
“The tulkun have returned! Everybody—our brothers and sisters have returned!” Tsireya’s voice rang out, and when I poked my head out to see what the fuss was about, I saw the megawatt smile on her face, as she swam by on her ilu.
The village came to life as everyone mounted either ilu or canoe to make their way to the tulkun. From here, I could see little more than a large group of dark shapes making their way through the water. Payakan himself was dauntingly huge, but to see a whole pod of them show up like this? It was spectacular. I watched the commotion unfold from one of the walkways, lost in thought before I felt water splashing at my feet.
“Come on Lo’ak! Don’t just stand there, let’s go see the tulkun together!” Tsireya urged, still smiling. Shaken out of my stupor, I grinned widely—diving into the water and clambering onto her ilu. lu may be lithe animals, but I could still feel sinuous muscle under velvety skin as it made adjustments in the water to keep balance.
“I’ll come, but only if you’re offering a ride,” I joked, gently holding her waist and playfully leaning onto her. The cool water around us made her skin feel that much warmer. It was nice.
Before I could see her reaction—I would’ve bet anything at that moment that her cheeks had become flushed—we began to quickly make our way toward the rest of the clan and the giant tulkun.
The air around me vibrated with the excitement and happiness of loved ones returning, and Tsireya was no exception—the speed of the ilu gave away her eagerness to be with her spirit sister. As we leaped into and out of the water, Tsireya’s laughter was carried by the wind and reached my ears. That, and the answering whoops and bellows of Metkayina and tulkun alike, was almost contagious enough to get carried away by the energy surrounding us.
“My spirit sister is down there,” she said as she dismounted, sliding off her ilu and into the water. “Wait here, yeah?” she smiled at me before diving down.
I was more than happy to watch the Na’vi around me. Looking around, I was in awe of the sheer amount of tulkun gathered in one area, and how each Metkayina was able to identify their spirit sisters or brothers so easily. Looking down into the shifting waters, I saw Tsireya catching up with her spirit sister, waving her hands around and swimming through the water alongside her.
All around, I could hear people telling stories and the deep, booming calls of the tulkun as they responded with tales of their own. New parents were showing their babies and calves, and as my eyes scanned the horizon, I could see small children holding onto the tulkun’s fins as they were lifted to the glittering ocean surface.
Not too far away, I heard the sound of a body hitting the water and the sound of grating, but familiar laughter along with an indignant (Y/N) sputtering.
“Ao’nung, what the fu—”
“Hey, hey, relax! It’s just some water. There are children here, yuey,” Ao’nung chided with a shit-eating grin on his face.
“The parents of those children are going to have to explain what it means to return to Eywa once I’m through with you,” she retorted, treading water and becoming even more unamused when he raised his hands in mock surrender.
“Woah there pretty girl, you’re talking to the son of the mightiest warrior in all of Pandora—”
“That’s funny, I don’t see Neteyam here,” she interjected, pretending to search the waters around them before turning back to Ao’nung and tilting her head, “do you?”
“Just because you said that you can have fun finding your own way back to shore,” he said as he turned his ilu around.
“Oh, c’mon Ao’nung, don’t be like that,” she rolled her eyes and reached a hand towards him. “You’d really leave me here to fend for myself?”
He turned and wagged a disapproving finger at her, “I’ll consider forgiving you if you say word-for-word that I’m the son of the mightiest warrior in all of Pandora. I can’t have you slandering my father’s name, yuey.” She groaned and leaned back into the water.
“You couldn’t pay me enough to say that load of bull—”
“Nope!” he didn’t give her a chance to defile the ears of any nearby children and crossed his arms. “I wanna hear you say it.”
“...”
“I’m still waiting.”
With a sardonic smile, she finally caved. “Why don’t I do you one better? You’re the mightiest warrior to exist since the time of the First Songs,” she declared, sarcasm dripping from every word as she slapped at the water for emphasis.
“That’s what I thought, was that so hard?” Even if I wasn’t able to see them, I still would have been able to hear the stupidly wide smile that made its way across his face.
“Don’t be such a big baby and let me meet your spirit brother!”
“Just because he’s here to visit today, I’ll let that one slide for now.” Ao’nung rolled his eyes, dismounting his ilu to join (Y/N). “Now hold on tight and hold your breath like how we practiced.”
We? Who the fuck was we? Why was he allowing her to meet his spirit brother? Why were they looking at each other like that?
I watched both of their silhouettes submerge and breathed deeply, forcing my thundering heart to calm as I slowly sank my head into the water. At first, all I could see were blobs floating around in the water, but once my eyes adjusted, I could see the fluid movement of Ao’nung talking to his spirit brother. Eyebrows furrowing, I swam a little closer and hoped that I would be able to see what was being signed. With each movement made, it was clear that Ao’nung was translating the clicks and bellows of the tulkun to (Y/N), and whatever was being said made her smile widen by the second.
I couldn’t watch anymore as my chest burned from the lack of air and I resurfaced to catch my breath. For once, I was thankful for the lack of lung capacity I had. I climbed back onto Tsireya’s ilu. Seeing as she wasn’t back yet, I sat back and leaned on its neck to face the sky.
Did she always glow like that when she smiled? Whenever she was with him—she always looked so happy, so vibrant. Would she have looked like that with me by her side if I didn’t push her away? If I was there for her like I had promised? I wanted to tell her sorry—that I was sorry for taking our friendship for granted, for making her go through it alone. I wish that it didn’t take seeing her smile and laugh with someone else to make me realize how I felt.
I willed my tears to go away.
Is this how she felt? Seeing me with Tsireya? Great Mother… I was truly horrible, wasn’t I? I wished things turned out differently. Maybe in another universe, I did talk to her—realized sooner, made her happier—but now? Right now, my heart was torn in two, watching as someone else picked up the pieces of the heart I crushed. No amount of words could fix what we used to have, and even though I wanted to whisk her away, tell her I love her—that I see her—that seeing her with him made my skin crawl, I knew I couldn’t. I was no longer worthy to be part of her life, because of me and my actions alone.
I had become nothing but a stranger.
Ever since that day
The things I didn’t say
They haunt me
I know that I’m to blame
So go ahead and
Blame it on me, ooh
I know that I’m too late
But I’ll say it anyway
I’m sorry
I’m sorry
Hmm, I’m sorry
Oh-oh-oh-oh, I’m sorry

---  omaticayan (house) cats ☆゚.*・。゚
feauturing neteyam, kiri, lo’ak, tuk
Tumblr media
headcanons of them as literal house cats bc the entire omaticaya clan are just 3-meters-tall, walking, blue forests cats with bows. change. my. mind.
Tumblr media
: ̗̀➛ tuk ; tabby kitten
“what breed is she?”
“just a little girl”
you don’t know her exact breed
no one can blame you tho, she was jus a baby left by her mother in your backyard, that you took in
could be a mix of all sort of breeds, but to you, tuk was your little girl
the moment you took her in, she was severely malnourished. so you feed her with your own hands, bathe her, sleep with her each night
she was like your own child
and you’re ready to fight every single person in this planet if someone dare to lift a finger againts her
the bravest little kitten you’ve ever know
but the silliest too,
her entire body went wet as she got in, headfirst, into her bowl when she first learned to eat wet food
and one time she jumped into your aquarium to ‘catch’ the fishes
she would snatch pieces of wings from your plate and holds on it for her dear life when you tried to take it away from her </3
you would crochet matching hats for you and her
overall, the best lil girl ever
_
: ̗̀➛ lo’ak ; bengal cat
do i need to say more
he’d run all over the house, pouncing at every moving thing in sight, playing with his toys for hours, and getting to high places you never knew he could reach
one time he somehow got to the house’s roof. it freaked you out
you were convinced that this little bundle of energy is literally a cheerful puppy in cat’s clothing
with his adorable little coat, that took some time to put on, you take him to the park each morning. this is mandatory, or else he’s too energize to sleep at night and would start knocking things over at 3am (wich you learned the hard way)
at the park, his curious self would sniff everything and anything. a tree, a man’s leg, until he got too curious to a little winged fella, that a pigeon once pecked him on the head
he befriended every single dog and cat around the park, but would get a little salty if new people tried to touch him
at night, when finally, his energy went to 0%, he got cuddly. really cuddly, he sticks to you like glue
and i know he would sleep on your chest and suffocates you in your sleep
_
: ̗̀➛ kiri ; persian cat
she so bougie ngl
and a little moody too
you wont need an alaram clock, cause every morning, at the exact same time, she would sit on your face and starts screaming for food
i hope your wallet thick as hell cause i know she would only eat whole foods, like those healthy (and super fucking pricy) food rich cat persons feed their cats
kiri right there eating salmon and chicken breasts, and you’re left slurping your sad instant ramen
things we do for our cats ammirite
half of your life savings went to her
from grooming money, for buying her expensive foods and vitamins, to all her essentials like her high tech self cleaning litter box(?)
she spoiled as hell
but i know she still has the audacity to scratch your hand and legs
don’t get me wrong, she loves you. the two things she dislikes the least was you and the big blue fish living in your pond (it was rotxo)
_
: ̗̀➛ neteyam ; golden retriever
I KNOW I SAID CATS
but none of yall could deny
even as a person, he got that golden retriever personality
always have a smile on his face, tail wagging every time
calm and loving,
would befriend every other animal you foster, you sometimes find them all cuddled up together
have i mention that he loves cuddling?
but remember he’s huge
would crush you every time he cuddles into your lap
but you never minded, cause he’s the sweetest, most gentle giant

Songcord
Tuk was the one who realized that Spider didn't have a songcord
He had been around for a while at this point, having become a constant around the time Kiri learned to walk. She doesn't understand why her Mama hates him and says to stay away - Lo'ak and Kiri like him a lot and they have more fun chasing him then Neteyam! Neteyam is too fast and Spider is her size.
He's nice and lets her climb him and carries her even though her big siblings say she's getting too big - which, if Spider can carry her she is most certainly not too big - and plays her games while the others go to their training or apprenticeships
Sometimes he even brings her feathers and pretty things for her hair!
So yeah, when she gets to have her ceremony and holds her songcord for the first time, she's beyond concerned to find out that Spider doesn't have one
While they’re little, the cords hang in their hut until they're old enough to decide what to do with them. As it is, Lo'ak wants to braid his in his hair and Neteyam wants to put it on his bow like his mother. But there's a gap, one thats probably accidental, and she knows Spider should have his there
So she makes it her mission to be the best little sister ever and make one for him
After-all, if no one else is gonna do it then she, a craft master, is most certainly qualified
Grandmother makes most of the cords in the early stages so she inconspicuously asks for the twine to start it and how to make a bead. She asks why she needs it and Tuk tells her it's for her mother. Grandmother looks hopeful at that and gives it to her easily so Tuk knows she agrees with her. It's not till years later that she'll realize that Grandmother thought her mother had a realization...or another pregnancy. But she likes to think the first.
But...making beads is harder than she thought
She uses bone she found near the cooking fires - which, gross, Spider better like it - but whittling it is hard with only sharp pieces of the bone and rocks she found
The bead she makes is jagged and not very round and she almost cut herself a dozen times cause it's sharper than it looks but finally she has something that resembles the first beads on her cord. The knots are easier and she adds it to the start with pride. She adds a little of his blue paint cause it's his and that way it starts with him and her. Right as it should.
But even her cord has more than one bead.
Making this one was hard but Spider is her big brother and she can do it - besides, the look on her siblings faces when she presents his gift will be worth it.
So she starts wandering the outskirts of high camp with the cord on her belt. While she searches, she hums the first chords she can add. A happy little tune with a dramatic flourish; perfect so he remembers her when he sings it.
However, finding anything of use near the camp is proving futile. Nothing she finds is strong enough for a bead and the feathers are muddy and gross.
With her fathers determination, she sneaks past the bushes lining camp and into the forest
She makes it approximately 5 feet before Neteyam scoops her up.
Neteyam groans and Tuk finds herself propped up on chest, legs locked around his hips. She whines and squirms but unfortunately Neteyam is a seasoned big brother and there's no success in her attempted escape.
"Tuktuk, what do you think you're doing? You know you're not allowed outside of camp." The look on his face is disappointed and her tummy twists at the sight, but she has a good reason!
"I needed better bead stuff, the stuff in camp is yucky or is too hard." She whines but it isn't until he responds that she realizes her mistake.
"Bead supplies? Tuk what do you need bead supplies for?"
And so the surprise is busted
But...maybe she could get help
"..Spider doesn't have a songcord. I have one, you have one, Lo' has one, and Kiri has one...but he doesn't...so I'm making it. But I only have one bead."
And Neteyam doesn't know how to respond to that
Spider has been around since he could walk, they were together while Jake and Neytiri visited Kiri in her incubator, he realistically should have several beads by now. His chord should have his birth, his family, his first bow, the feather of his first kill...but Spider isn't Na'vi. He's not of the People...but it's Spider
Mom really wouldn't like it
But...it's Spider
And so he finds himself snatching Kiri's arm while she leaves her lessons. Covering her mouth when she shrieks and Tuk grabs her leg. Which, he doesn't really know why she did that, but it's Tuk. He pulls her between the huts while the other kids move on and mumbles his apology.
"Tuk, 'Teyam, what in Ewya's name are you doing?" She hisses, ears bent back, and eyes narrow. Her tail swishes angrily behind her and Neteyam realizes belatedly he could have done this better.
"We need your help. It-It's for Spider, we're making him a songcord. Tuk made him a bead but...we need help making more. You work with Grandmother, can you help us?"
And if Neteyam knows anything, its his sisters weakness for their oldest friend.
It's a long pause while she processes but soon, she relaxes, and he feels the tension leave his shoulders. Her tail slows and she takes a deep breath before she replies; "..fine. But if we do this, we all do this. Get Lo'ak and meet me behind Grandmothers. Quietly. She's out with Mother but I don't want to explain this before its done...you know Mom will be pissed, right?"
And Neteyam does...damn he does, but he nods.
With determination, they're off.
And so that is how he finds himself in a clumsy circle with his siblings surrounding him. Bone and wood are in the center of their circle, small paints with them, and a jumble of small blades. Kiri has seen Grandmother do this before and so she leads them through making their beads with a different ease than Tuk found by herself
Tuk spends the time weaving feathers into the bottom of the chord and adding bits of paint to the finished beads. They make a bags worth, albeit a small bag, for Spider too. He'll need more. Their beads by no means look to par with their own but they try their best. Each painting and carving with as much patience as they can muster.
It takes them the rest of the day but soon they have a small pile ready. Kiri takes the pieces and spends the next day tying the knots and attaching them as secure as a 10 year old can.
It's time consuming but in a few days of work between apprenticeships, meals, and whatever else may keep them within sight of the adults, they have a songcord
Its messier than theirs and small, the knots aren't as tight and the symbolism in it is meager. They wanted to keep it happy but without parents to record his beginnings, its small knots of Spider growing up in basecamp with the first beads being the familial bead they each made of themselves. They added feathers from some of their favorite varieties to the bottom and, in place of training memories, added times he won a game or did something cool. It's different but so is their brother.
They decide to present it to him together, since it was something they all made. Normally he would have a ceremony for it but they decide that his could be them.
They steal him away in the evening, right before it's time for him to head back to camp. They want him alone so the adults can ruin the moment; while some of the younger adults have accepted Spider into their ranks, they don't know how the older warriors would respond.
Tuk is the one who catches him and pulls him into the treeline. They settle into the clearing where they usually play and, anxiously, they give Tuk the cord. She walks forward and nervously holds it out. The older trio sit in nervous silence as they wait for Spider to respond.
"I...guys what is this?" Spiders face is bright red and they'd worry if it weren't for the smile trying to win over his face.
"It..its your cord, Bro. Tuk said you don't have one so...we made it." Lo'ak responds first and scoots closer, Tuk at his side. "I-I made the first one and then I got the feathers and the pretty rocks on the bottom. Kiri and 'teyam and Lo' made most of the beads but I helped paint 'em. The bag has more for later cause Kiri knows how to knot 'em in. And...And we made the song too.." Tuk grins, nervous but clearly excited. She turns and runs to her sister who begins to hum
Kiri closes her eyes, humming softly the little song her siblings made for him. Spiders grinning at this point, 12 years old and teary eyed. He scoots closer and pulls the siblings into a hug as she finishes.
"Thank you, thank you-" He cuts himself off laughing, the others joining in. There they stay until eclipse is waning over their heads and time is up.
Spider braids the cord into his hair and it's with him when Quaritch catches him. They don't know its significance to take if from him but he clings to it in his cell, humming the song to himself as he waits for help thats not coming.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — what do we know about the plot and the lore?
Since many atwow fans, especially here on tumblr, seem to be unaware or not caught up on the new avatar game coming out in two months I thought I’d make this post and spill tea about all the juicy details!
First things first, let me respond to the biggest question you might have:
When is frontiers of Pandora happening, in terms of cannon time-line?
FoP is confirmed to be cannon to the movie franchise and plays out first during the events of the first movie, directly impacted by Jake’s battle in the hallelujah mountains and then continues playing out 15 years later, during the events of avatar the way of water.
What’s the story?
The character we play as is a young, unnamed Na’vi of either female or male sex (judging by promo images), depending on what you choose in the beginning of the game. Their fate is a tragic one, as MC, who lives in the west hemisphere of Pandora is kidnapped from their home by the RDA, together with many other children.
Tumblr media
The captives unwillingly become part of T.A.P, or “The Ambassador Program”, and for years go through constant brainwashing and cruel treatment, all to become perfect "ambassadors" of RDA and enforce its propaganda, most likely through force.
Tumblr media
They become soldiers, taught the weaponry and war tactics of humans, all under the rule of a frankly mentally unstable man named John Mercer.
Tumblr media
(Yes this is him yelling at an 8 year old)
John Mercer is the presumed overseer of the site, controlling the project and acts as the main villain of the game.
When battle of the Hallelujah Mountains occurs and the site looses contact with hell’s gate after it gets attacked by rogue avatars and scientists, the staff sounds the alarm and humans rush to evacuate from Pandora, afraid that Omatikaya will find the base and attack them next. In their rush, John Mercer commands his goons to get rid of the evidence of T.A.P program, namely killing all the Na’vi children they abducted years prior.
Tumblr media
They don’t get to do that however, as MC’s teacher, an avatar that has spent years teaching the children human subjects, shoots the guards dead in panic, leading her students to what presumably is an emergency bunker equipped with cryopods, and puts her students, including the MC to sleep so as they get to escape the wrath of John Mercer’s men and fly under their radar.
Tumblr media
And there they remained for the next 15 years, un disturbed in their slumber until an unknown factor triggered their pod and it opened, waking MC from their sleep and, for the first time in years, they walk free.
Tumblr media
But after an eternity in RDA’s clutches, the main character has forgotten all about their roots and customs. It is up to them now to reconnect with their home and become a true Na’vi once more, with the help of many characters we’ll meet along the way, young and old, from a number of new clans we had never seen before.
Tumblr media
(I’m mostly excited about this old lady, she seems chill af and I like her fit)
But the healing arc is only part of the story, as we know that the RDA canonically comes back 15 years after the battle in the mountains. This time, they’re stronger, meaner, and right back at their business, so it’s up to us, the player, to establish a resistance in the west and fight off the aliens who once more infested Eywa’s lands. John Mercer is, unsurprisingly, also back, though thankfully not as a recombinant.
Okay so what is the EXACT time the main story plays out?
The story plays out the year 2169 according to the timeline, which is about the same time the Omatikaya perform a train raid we see in the movie. The RDA has established their base (Bridgehead) in the east and is trying to expand its operations to the western frontier, which is where the MC comes in. As a "child of two worlds", the character can use both the classic Na’vi weaponry as well as human firearms and traps of all kinds. Ironically the RDA, through its cruelty, had created a formidable enemy that knows ins and outs of their thinking similarly to Jake Sully.
Hold up so, if FoP and Atwow happen parallel to each other, does it mean that we’ll get to meet the movie characters and interact with them?
I can’t say for sure. Geographically, the game and the movie play out in two different hemispheres, which greatly brings down the chance of meeting any of the characters we know face to face. However, it is more than likely that the game will expand on the movie lore and we’ll get to find out more about Jake’s operations, as well as the operations of RDA (including the recom program).
.
Here is the link to the overview trailer of the game that will cover the info I wrote above and some more.
I heavily recommend that you check out the game, as it looks extremely promising so far and I can’t be more hyped! If you got any more questions, feel free to drop them into my ask box!

“It’s my turn with mama!” Neteyam shouts at Lo’ak who is currently sitting on your lap as you weave your mate a new top to wear during raids and hunts. Lo’ak loves to be under you at all times, no matter what task you are doing, he always finds his way next to you –which you’ve always found adorable.
The boys always tend to argue over who would spend more time with you and Neteyam was always given the short end of the stick because Lo’ak would always make him cave, but Neteyam isn’t having it today.
“Move, Lo’ak!” Neteyam grabs Lo’ak’s arm and pulls him out of your lap, making his brother upset due to the sudden snatch from his comfort zone.
In a matter of seconds, the boys start arguing and getting physical, until you deem it necessary to step in and get the situation under control. “Boys! Stop this instant!”
They know they shouldn’t be fighting, especially with their sisters sleeping in the next room, so when your voice booms throughout the marui, they immediately separate from each other with their tails tucked between their legs.
“There is no need for the two of you to fight. Both of you can spend time with me.” You beckon and they run toward you with smiles across their faces, then they sit on your lap and begin to help you weave.
As you continue to weave, the boys begin to feel drowsy, so you put down the unfinished top, pick them up and then walk toward their makeshift beds. When you walk past the makeshift doorway, the entrance curtain rises. You turn your head and see Neytiri walking in with her bow in hand.
“Hello, Ma’ y/n.'' She comes and kisses you on the cheek and rubs Neteyam’s head as he sleeps peacefully with his head laid on your shoulder. “It looks like they tired themselves out.” She chuckles as she kisses them on their forehead, happy to see them after a long day of performing her duties for the clan.
“Yes, they did. I’m going to lay them down and then it’ll just be me and you.” You walk toward the kids’ sleeping area and gently lay them down in their beds. Once you tuck them in, you close their privacy curtain and walk back into the open area where Neytiri is sitting.
“How was it with the hunting party?” You ask as you start making your way to the cooking fire so you can start preparing dinner.
“It was fine. Same as usual.” Neytiri walks up behind you and begins to plant kisses on your cheek, neck, and shoulder blade. Neytiri couldn’t wait to come home to you after the long day she’s had. You’ve always had a way of brightening up her day no matter the situation and today is no different.
As you feel her kisses you can’t help but giggle at the sensation. “Neytiri! I can’t focus on preparing dinner with you kissing me like this!” Neytiri always has a tendency of being extra affectionate when she wants your attention. When she wants you in her warm embrace, with you laying on her chest while she strokes your hair, she would always start kissing every accessible part of you.
“Come lay with me.” She murmurs softly in your ear before she begins to nibble on your earlobe which she knows is your weak spot. Neytiri’s slowly trying to wear you down and make you succumb to her advances.
“‘tiri, I can’t. I have to make dinner.” You whine, beginning to feel breathless under her touch. You are trying to stay strong and stand your ground, but it’s hard when Neytiri is doing the things she knows are your weaknesses. When you feel her hand glide down your spine, making its way to the waistband of your loincloth, you decide to give in before it goes any further.
“Okay, Okay, ‘tiri you win. I'll lay down, but only for a little ‘cause I wanna get dinner started before the kids wake up.” When Neytiri hears that, she doesn’t waste any time and swoops you into her arms, carrying you to your shared area of the marui.
Once she gently places you down, she walks over and closes the curtain in the makeshift doorway, so both of you can have some privacy. She comes back and sits down next to you and you immediately rest your head on her chest and wrap your arm around her torso.
“So yawne, tell me about your day.” As you start giving Neytiri a run-down of your whole day, giving her a full visual of how the children acted throughout the day, she can’t help but get hypnotized by your sweet voice. Watching how your lips move smoothly against each other, she feels compelled to kiss you.
She gracefully moves her hand to your waist while using the other to grab your chin and pull you in for a kiss. The kiss is so soft yet so powerful, you can tell Neytiri has been waiting for this moment all day. The more your lips continue to linger each other, the more it begins to get more intense. Somehow Neytiri ends up towering over you and your hands wind up to the strings of her bra top, almost pulling the strings to fully loosen it.
When your nimble fingers begin to pull the string, the patter of little feet causes your eyes to widen. “‘tiri! The kids, they’re awake!” You mutter in panic, causing both of you to separate from each other, properly adjusting your clothes to how they were before you and Neytiri started the first phase of ‘adult time’. You and Neytiri pull yourselves together just in time before your curtain is pulled back to reveal all four of your children.
“Mama? Can we come in?” Lo’ak asks in a soft voice as he rubs the sleepiness out of his eyes.
“We missed mom and we heard her voice so we all wanted to come.” Kiri chimes in as her tail sways at the sight of you and Neytiri next to each other. With the way all of them stare at you with their cute faces and innocent eyes you can’t think of a reason why they can’t come in. “Of course, farultsyìp.” You flash them an inviting smile which makes all them perk up and scurry across the room to you and Neytiri.
Neteyam walks over to you and hands you baby Tuk and as you cradle her in your arms, she gives you a gummy smile while playing with your top, making your heart melt at the adorable sight. “Thank you, ‘itan.” You love how loving and caring Neteyam was for his younger siblings, especially Tuk. You know for sure that when he gets older he will definitely become protective of them, steering them away from any danger life will throw at them.
Neteyam sits above you and Neytiri heads, Kiri lays across Neytiri’s legs, and Lo’ak presses his body against Neytiri’s shoulder. All of them squirm around for a little until they find a comfortable position.
“Mama, can you tell us a vur?” Kiri has always loved hearing stories about you and Neytiri, especially about when you first joined the Omatikaya. When Neteyam and Lo’ak hear the word “story” they start chiming in, hoping you and Neytiri would entertain them with one of your adventurous stories.
“What story should we tell them, ‘tiri?”
“How about when we first met?” She knows the children like that one because they’ve always found it amusing. You are about to agree when you hear multiple excited yeses which make you chuckle. “I think that’s a good idea.”
As Neytiri begins to tell the story, all the children are tuned in, ready to soak up every word she says. “One day I was out in the forest, hunting and while I was up high in a tree, I saw your mother walking along the forest floor...”

Bullets flew past you in swarms. The crashing of the waves was shunned out by screams. The blood spatter imprinted the metal walls leaving behind an unusual work of art. Every shake of the ship caused you to believe it would tumble over and eat you alive.
Neteyam ran with you, shielding your body with his as you ran towards the middle of the ship. Your bow carried in your hand seemed heavier than before as you took down some of the sky people. War cries were let out as the pile of dead bodies grew. No mercy was spared in the water, it was either be killed or drowned by the wrath of the mother ocean.
“Y/n you need to head to the back of ship and find Tuk.” Neteyam directed you as he slit a sky person’s throat. His blood oozed out of him like everlasting rivers. The smell of metal burned your nostrils. You looked away from the body, turning back to face Neteyam who was already heading away from you.
“Where are you going?!” You yelled back quickly grabbing an arrow and shooting it at the creature heading towards you. The arrow landed itself on the chest of the victim causing him to spasm in short lived gasps.
“I need to go find Lo’ak and Kiri,” he responded back, stabbing another man in the gut. This time the blood gushed out in a blob of mush. You wanted to puke at the sight. Neteyam pulled out his knife from the man and let the red liquid stain his innocent hands.
“Promise me you will be careful,” you looked at him with worried eyes. If he died you wouldn’t know what you would do. Yes, you both barely met a couple weeks ago, but the feeling of living without him, pained you deeply. To live without his smile, was to mean you would never see the sun again. To live without his laugh, would mean your heart song would cease to exist. To live without his warmth, would mean you would never be balanced again. It was out of the question on whether he lives or not.
“I will my love, as long as you promise the same,” you nodded back at him taking off to the back in a hurry. Some of the ship’s walls curved inwards, falling onto the loose iron beams, leaving you to duck down and crawl carefully through the maze.
It seemed like the sky people were cloning after every death. After defeating two of them, four appear out of the blue, then six, then eight, it was a never ending cycle. You were starting to grow tired and low on arrows. Every punch took every ounce of energy you had left, leaving your lethargic body vulnerable, but you had to continue on.
“Tuk!” You screamed out to the abandoned area. Most of the people here were dead, their oxygen masks laid shattered on the ground next to them. You didn’t feel any remorse for them, it was their fault and only theirs.
“Tuk!” You continued to scream out still staying on guard for any unexpected visitors. Water began to rise and spread across the floor. Its blue trail guided you towards a secluded area where lite sobs were heard.
“Tuk, tuk is that you,” you shouted it out keeping your bow loaded incase it was false. Slowly, stepping closer to the dark abyss you saw the young child chained up to a metal pole.
“Y/n is that you?” She called out, even in the dark her bright yellow eyes glimmered with hope. Quickly, you bent the metal pipes causing the physical boundary between you both to be destroyed. Water rushed in, flooding the small child in its hold.
“I got you sweetheart,” you said to Tuk trying to comfort her as the water began to rise. The orange straps were tied tightly around her wrist, not wanting to hurt her, you grabbed you knife and began to saw away the tough fabric.
“Hurry Y/n the water is rising,” your hands began to shake at the reminder, finally you got the restraints off of her and picked her up into your arms.
“Come on Tuk we have to find your siblings.” You stated hurtling yourself and her through the opposing tide. Tuk gasped as the water hit her face, you swiped your hand softly across her face getting rid of the water.
“Neteyam!” You yelled out, the quietness of it all made you panic. Only the crashing waves could be heard throughout the ship. Tuk’s tight hold on you was strong, her nails dug into your skin drawing blood. You preferred she do that than get drifted away again.
“Neteyam! Lo’ak! Kiri!” You screamed out, grabbing Tuk’s head you told her to count to three. Both of took a deep breath before swimming through the sharp maze. You did most of the swimming since you were the more experienced than Tuk, and you didn’t want her to get lost.
You nodded at Tuk, swimming back up to see the sun has already settled, leaving you behind with the goddess of the night.
The both of you were about to exit the ship and swim to high ground when someone grabbed you from behind. You released Tuk, pushing her away from you quickly. The stench of his caused you to panic. How could you be so careless and forget about your surroundings?
“Run along now little Sully,” he ordered softly smiling at her. Her eyes opened in fear looking back at you. His hands tightly held your neck and hands making you defenseless. You mouthed to Tuk to go and get help, she nodded swimming away in a hurry.
“What do you want?” You groaned as he twisted your hands. He let out laugh throwing your bow to the side while still keeping a hand on your throat.
“It’s nothing personal sweetheart, I just need some leverage here, you understand right?” Quaritch said with smile, he pulled me to the corner of ship hiding me in the shadows as we waited for the Sullys.

“Mama!” Tuk yelled as she swam towards a near by rock. All her family members huddled together in exhaustion.
Neteyam turned around search for Y/n. He kept looking around hoping she would pop up from the water and greet them with victory, but she never showed up.
“Tuk where is Y/n?” Jake asked as he saw the panic on his son’s face. Everyone began to worry about the missing girl.
“She was kidnapped.” Tuk stated with tears began to fall from her eyes. The child began to blame herself for you getting captured by Quaritch.
“It is not your fault my sweet daughter,” Neytiri tried soothing her child, her anger blossomed at the thought of you being hurt. During their stay at the Metkayina tribes home, you were one of the only people who welcomed them with warm arms. You and Tsireya were there to teach them on how to adapt to their ways and teaching.
“I’m going,” Neteyam told his family as he climbed off the rock and began to swim towards the almost sunken ship.
“Son, we need to form a plan we can’t just charge in there and open fire.” He advised his son who just kept swimming towards the ship ignoring his family’s pleas.
“I guess we are just going open fire.” Lo’ak smiled as swam towards his brother.
Here goes nothing, this was for Y/n.
