A/N: here is the official rewritten and revamped first part of JWIN 🥹 it’s Carson and Auston discovering they’re expecting again and has been changed quite a bit. Hope you enjoy!
~*~
It was during a late evening in November when the thought of telling Auston what Carson spent the last few days running through her mind.
The two of them were at home, cuddled up on the couch together with one almost empty glass of wine, and one full one sitting on the coffee table nearby. Mia had fallen asleep fairly early that night, still adjusting to the time change of only being home from Sweden. So Carson and Auston decided to make the most of this chill Wednesday evening at home before he was set to leave the following afternoon with the team as they travelled to Chicago and then Pittsburgh. He wouldn’t be back until late that Saturday night.
At first, they were going to watch a movie together. But after Auston poured those two glasses of wine and the two of them engaged in a deep conversation about life, a movie wasn’t needed for they were both just so content with the others' presence.
It was peaceful. Frank was asleep in Mia’s room with her and Matthew had called it an early night, retreating to the basement after helping Carson clean up once they all finished eating dinner and Auston was upstairs bathing Mia. So, it was just Carson and Auston hanging out in their sweats relaxing together.
Carson wasn’t sure how or when she ended up in the position of almost laying directly on top of Auston, with her head resting against his chest and his arms wrapped protectively around her as Gloria by The Lumineers played softly from the TV and she watched their Christmas tree twinkle over in the corner by the big window, but she wasn’t too mad about either.
Everything about that moment seemed perfect, but then Carson glanced back to that full glass of wine.
There was a reason she wasn’t drinking and a huge part of her wondered if Auston had noticed. It was likely that he did but didn’t feel the need to bring it up or pressure her into giving him an answer, which made Carson feel a lot better about the thoughts running through her mind.
See, there was a reason she wasn’t drinking. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to, because realistically, she wasn’t one to pass up wine, like ever. But she had been refraining from drinking it because there was something she just had to be sure about before she did.
She’d been feeling off as of late. It started shortly before they left for Sweden. There were some days Carson wouldn’t have much of an appetite, and others that she would have trouble getting out of bed because she just felt so crappy.
Auston noticed, naturally. He always did and became a little concerned about the upcoming trip if Carson wasn’t feeling well. Carson, however, insisted she was fine. She focused on powering through whatever she was feeling because she wanted to be there, supporting her husband in Stockholm and experiencing something so unforgettable. Carson also was determined to not let a little illness get to her because there she had a very sassy little girl whom she loved more than anything in the world and needed her mama.
Mia was roughly two months away from being two years old, which was absolutely crazy to Carson. Time had flown by and earlier that day while out on a walk with her, Auston and Frank, she found herself thinking back to when she found out she was pregnant with her daughter in the first place.
Finding out they were expecting Mia was an entire whirlwind of an experience. Carson was ridiculously sick and hadn’t even considered the thought of being pregnant, but after talking with Ema about the symptoms she had, Carson knew it was a possibility. Later that same evening, was when she found out she was going to be a mom.
Remembering that while hunched over the toilet in the bathroom of their hotel in Stockholm, waiting for a wave of nausea to pass, was when Carson started to think she might be pregnant again. The signs were there, her period was late. The more Carson thought about it, the more she became convinced that’s what was going on.
Except, they were in Sweden.
Being in Stockholm was an incredible experience, but it was also hectic. There was so much going on, that Carson barely had any time to just chill and process everything. As soon as the thought of being pregnant again crept into her mind, she wanted to tell Auston. While their group was out for dinner and she hardly ate and mainly just sipped on her water, others picked up on something being off.
Steph mentioned it, Mitch did too and of course, so did Auston. However, he didn’t want to make a scene about it because he knew Carson wouldn’t want that.
During dinner, when Mia got fussy, Carson was quick to excuse her and Mia to go outside and get some fresh air, but Auston wasn’t far behind them. Not only did he want to help with Mia and make her feel better, but he needed to check in on Carson too. They weren’t outside for long before Willy showed up and took Mia from them saying he’d hang out with her and they could go back inside.
Carson tried to tell him that wasn’t necessary, but before she could, Willy was already wandering off with Mia and she was gradually getting in better spirits being with one of her favourite guys.
Before going back inside, Auston checked in on Carson. He said how he noticed she wasn’t eating and how that did concern him which made Carson feel so guilty. She wanted to tell him everything about how she was feeling and that she suspected she may be pregnant again, but she didn’t want to get too ahead of herself. Maybe it was an illness after all and it was easy for her to go along with that.
She should’ve told him and she knew that, but she just couldn’t. The trip was about the Leafs and Carson’s nagging thoughts told her if she did mention that to Auston, she’d be making it about her. She didn’t want to do that, so she held off.
As the days went on, Carson became rather low energy and the morning sickness didn’t subside. She became more convinced that what she suspected was true and she was indeed pregnant.
It killed her not knowing, but it killed her even more that she still hadn’t communicated any of this with Auston. Carson felt terrible but was so set on waiting until they were back in Toronto to tell him. She just hadn’t found the right time, but what better time than when she and Auston are having a relaxing evening at home together?
She had to do it, she couldn’t wait any longer.
“Hey, Aus,” Carson started and lifted her head off his chest so that she could look at him as she spoke. “Can I ask you something?”
It wasn’t until Carson was facing Auston that she noticed his eyes were shut, or just how content and peaceful he was lying there with her. I instantly made her feel worse for disturbing him.
Slowly though, Auston’s eyes fluttered open and he gave Carson a tiny smile. “Of course.”
“Uh, you know what? Nevermind. It’s alright. You’re resting, we can talk about it another time.”
“Bub,” Auston said and gave his wife a pointed glance before squeezing her side, making her squirm. “I can assure you that talking isn’t going to wear me out. What’s on your mind?”
“I know,” Carson sighed. “It’s just that it’s not exactly an easy topic to discuss. Pretty serious, actually. And, I don’t know, this isn’t how I planned talking about it either.”
“Carson. You can talk to me about anything at any time.”
He then leaned forward to peck Carson’s lips, making her melt on the inside a bit, but increasing her nerves.
“I- would you ever want to have another baby one day?”
At that, Auston raised his eyebrows, indicating how that was not a question he expected so out of the blue. “I mean, you know the answer. We’ve briefly talked about more kids in the future and I love the thought, but that’s not really for me to decide. It’s your body, and I don’t know. That’s something we can decide together regardless of what I want.”
“Good answer,” Carson told him with a smile as he winked at her.
“Why? Is that something you’ve been thinking about?”
“Kind of.”
“Do you want to have another baby?” He questioned while shifting so he could sit a little more upright, still careful to not shift Carson’s position in the process, though.
“I don’t hate the thought,” Carson stated. “At all. We lucked out with our little sass queen and, god, I just love her so much. Can you imagine her being a big sister?”
“That’s crazy to think about,” Auston chuckled. “But yes, I could see it. And I mean, I grew up with siblings. I’d love for my kids to have that too.”
“Mia is just such a people person already, I could see her loving having a younger sibling. Frank probably wouldn’t mind either.”
“As long as he gets his treats and belly rubs I’m pretty sure Frank will be fine with just about anything,” Auston replied, making Carson smile. “So, yes, you would like to have more kids one day?”
“I would,” Carson told him firmly. “I just don’t know when a good time would be like Mia isn’t even two yet. What is a good time gap between having children? There’s just so many questions I have.”
“Well, I think with our current life situations, there is no such thing as a bad time to have another baby,” Auston reasoned, and Carson knew he had a good point. “But we don’t have to figure that out right now. We can just go with the flow and see what happens.”
“See that’s the thing,” Carson started and took a deep breath. “There’s a reason I wanted to ask you that question.”
“And why is that?” He asked, looking at her softly but Carson could tell he was eagerly waiting for her response. So, she took a deep breath and finally shared what had been on her mind as of late.
“I think I might be pregnant again.”
It took Auston a moment to process what Carson had just said and wrap his head around the concept entirely. When she brought up the topic of having another baby one day, he didn’t think she meant right then. But at the same time, he didn’t care because there was a possibility he might have another little bean running around soon, and he loved that thought.
“Are you serious?” He finally breathed out and noticed just how anxious Carson seemed.
“I- yeah. I haven’t been physically ill like I was when we found out I was pregnant with Mia, but I’ve had quite a bit of morning sickness. Or at least that’s what I think it is. I don’t know, I feel like there’s just something going on with my body, and I mean, there’s still the likelihood that I’m not pregnant again, but, my period is late and-.”
“Hey, you don’t have to justify yourself,” Auston spoke up when Carson began rambling. She was thankful for how well he was handling what she said, but Carson still felt overly emotional about it as she shifted away from him and started fiddling with the throw blanket that covered them as a way to keep herself from crying. However, it didn’t take long for Auston to notice what she was doing. “Babe, come here. Talk to me, please.”
Auston sat upright and moved to pull Carson close to him again. Once his arm was around her waist, though, he hesitated because he wasn’t sure if she wanted her space or not, but when she didn’t move away, he took that as a sign to continue.
“How long have you been thinking this?”
“Since we were in Sweden,” Carson blubbered. “I-I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but it wasn’t the time. And I know that wasn’t a fair decision for me to make on my own because you are my partner and you deserve to know but, I just, I just couldn’t, Auston. I know you and I know that’s all you would’ve been thinking about during that trip but I didn’t want it to be.”
“As much as I wish you told me then so you wouldn’t have to keep this all on yourself,” Auston started softly. “I’m not going to be upset with you about it, Carse. But, I can tell you’re upset. What’s got you feeling this way, beautiful? This is good news.”
“I just need to know, Auston,” Carson whispered as she turned to face him again, and he didn’t miss a beat by reaching up to wipe away the tears that were rolling down her cheeks. “I need to know if I’m pregnant so bad, but at the same time, I don’t want to.”
“What do you mean?”
Carson sighed.
“I hate not knowing why I’m feeling the way that I am. If I’m not pregnant, then what’s wrong with me? And it’s also so much more than that too. The thought of having another baby right now is terrifying. What if something happens while you’re away or I just struggle because you’re not here? Remember how stressed we were about that kind of thing with Mia? Sure it all worked out, but the thought still makes me nervous, and the timing would be completely different, seeing as it’s November. You were in the off-season for pretty much the entire first half of my pregnancy last time, I had you with me when I felt like I needed it most. I don’t know, I feel like I’m getting so worked up now, but I worry about these things, Aus.”
“I understand,” Auston nodded and looked away thoughtfully, the expression on his face changing. But Carson knew that look, he was internally blaming himself over what she had said, but she refused to let him. “I’m sorry you feel stressed about this and that I can’t always be here. I wish I could, Carson. More than anything.”
“I know you do, and that’s enough, Auston. You’re enough.”
“It doesn’t always feel like it, though. I feel like I miss so many things. Mia is growing up insanely fast, and I’m not always here for it all. Who’s to say it won’t be the same or worse when we do have another baby?”
“You’re not missing anything, though. As much as I too wish you could be here all the time, you’re doing what you love. Mia and I will always be cheering you on as you do that too. Just because you’re away sometimes doesn’t mean Mia is going to forget about you or love you any less. You know damn well how much of a daddy’s girl she is. She can’t contain her excitement when you come home from a road trip because she loves you so much. I just know that if or when we have any more kids, it’ll be the same. You’re an incredible dad, Auston. I’m so lucky to have you as my partner in all of this.”
At that, Auston smiled before shaking his head.
“I thought I was the one trying to make you feel better.”
Carson chuckled.
“That’s kinda how we work, huh? Always levelling the other out in some way.”
“Always,” he replied before leaning forward to kiss her softly again. “We just get each other like that. Which is also how I know there’s something else that’s bothering you. Come on, spill.”
“You’re very observant, Matthews,” Carson mumbled while rolling her eyes.
“Please, you find it endearing.”
“I find it annoying,” she corrected, making him scoff as she chuckled at his reaction. “I’m kidding. But yeah, I guess there is something still bothering me, but it’s kind of hard to explain.”
“Try me,” Auston replied, giving her hand an encouraging squeeze.
“It’s just, yes, there are things that make me feel uneasy about the possibility of being pregnant, but as I said earlier, I really would love to have more kids. I love thinking about Mia being a big sister one day, and the thought of growing our family together. But what if right now isn’t the time to do so? Maybe there never will be a right time.”
“I don’t think the timing is an issue,” Auston stated and began tracing over Carson’s knuckles with his thumb. “I can’t think of us having more kids being at a bad time, ever. It could be now, or it could be months or years down the road, and I’d still be happy. But only if you’re ready, of course.”
“I think I am,” Carson told him honestly. “Which is also stressing me out because I want to be pregnant again. It feels weird to say out loud, but yeah, I’m hoping that I am pregnant, however, maybe I’m not Auston. I have this gut feeling that I am, but I’m afraid I’m getting my hopes up. A lot of people struggle with getting pregnant, and we can’t assume we won’t either just because we’ve already lucked out with our little girl.”
Carson stopped and wiped away a tear she could feel that was about to break free again. Auston was quiet, but after a moment of processing what she just said, he finally spoke up again.
“You’ve been thinking about this a lot, haven’t you?”
“More than I probably should be. I just really care about it, maybe a little too much.”
“There’s no such thing as caring too much,” he responded and nudged Carson’s shoulder so she’d look at him again. “You’re just full of so much love, and that’s fine. It’s part of what makes you an amazing mother to our daughter. But, regardless, we’re in this together. Although there may be some bumps along the way, everything is going to be fine. This may be one of those bumps, but it also might be what we’re hoping for. Pregnant or not, though, we’re going to be ok, Carson. I promise.”
Carson was full-on sobbing by that point. Auston always knew what to say when she needed to get out of her head a little bit, and this situation was no exception. She wasn’t crying because she was upset or frustrated, she was just so damn emotional having conversations like this one, but so thankful to have Auston help her get through them.
Once Auston realized Carson was crying again, he was quick to pull her into his embrace and hold onto her tightly. He didn’t say anything, just let her get those emotions out while gently rubbing her back and placing soft pecks on her head. After a minute or so went by, he began reassuring her and telling her how much he loved her all without letting go. It was no wonder how, after that, Carson eventually started feeling better.
“Thank you, Auston, I needed that,” she told him as she moved away, sniffling and wiping away any stray tears.
“Of course, I’m always going to be here for you, bub. Don’t feel like you have to bottle up anything, ok? We’re a team.”
“The best one,” Carson stated before letting out a shaky breath. “I love you.”
“And I love you,” Auston replied while tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. “So much. We’re going to be fine.”
“As long as we have each other.”
“Exactly,” he nodded with a smile.
Carson returned the smile before shrugging a little bit. “I don’t know how I’m going to wait until Sunday when you’re home again to take some tests and know for sure.”
“I could run to the pharmacy now and get some if you’d like,” he suggested. “Then we know. And depending on what they say, you can make an appointment with your doctor, and we can go from there.”
“Auston, I’m not going to make you go buy pregnancy tests for me,” Carson told him and shook her head.
“You’re not making me do anything, I’m offering to get them. It’ll take me no more than 20 minutes to go get some and come back. Would you feel better knowing tonight than waiting?”
“Well, yeah, but-.”
“Then I’ll do it, Carson, I’m sure I can manage to buy some pregnancy tests,” he retorted. “It’s not late, bub. It’s nothing for me to do. You stay here and relax, alright? Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it. But, I won’t get the tests if you don’t want to take them.”
“No, I do,” Carson started. “I want to see what they say at least. I just didn’t want to do it alone. That’s why I figured we wait until Sunday.”
“You’re not going to be alone. I’ll go right now and we can do this together. Deal?”
Carson smiled and looked down at his extended hand, chuckling at how he was going to make her shake in agreement with this game plan. But regardless, she took his hand and shook it; feeling even more nervous and excited than before.
“Deal.”
“Perfect,” he replied then pecked her lips once again before she rolled to the side and he got out from under her. “I’ll be right back.”
Carson watched as Auston rushed out of the living room and into the foyer where he fumbled to put on his shoes and a jacket. She tried to stop herself from laughing, but it was hard not to. He was excited and it made all soft and mushy on the inside.
“I love you!”
“I love you, too,” Carson chuckled as he blew her a kiss before rushing down the hallway to the garage. He was quiet making his way to the garage, but the noise of the garage door opening was a startle and something neither of them accounted for in their excitement.
“Oh, no,” Carson whispered to herself knowing what was about to come. Soon enough, she heard a bark from upstairs. Frank wasn’t one to go crazy with barking unless he felt threatened, but it wasn’t uncommon for him to bark at noises that startled him. It also wasn’t uncommon for the garage door to do just that, which led to the sounds of shuffling and groaning of a little girl who had just accidentally been woke up.
“Daddy?” Mia’s voice sounded through the monitor, sounding so sleepy. “Mama.”
“Should’ve seen that one coming,” Carson whispered to herself as she got up off the couch and hurried upstairs to go check on Mia. When she entered Mia’s room, unsurprisingly, Mia was sat up holding Whaley in one arm and knuckling at her eyes tiredly with the opposite hand. “Hi, sweet girl.”
Mia looked at her with a pout and then let out a dramatic huff, showing quite the resemblance to her father when he gets woken up unexpectedly.
“Fwank bawked, mommy.”
“He did bark, didn’t he? And it woke you up.”
“Yeah,” Mia replied and immediately crawled onto Carson’s lap once she sat at the edge of the bed.
“Oh, honey,” Carson said while Mia slumped against her chest and let out a big yawn. She then started gently rubbing Mia’s back as a way to soothe her back to sleep. “Why don’t we lay back down, baby? I’ll stay with you.”
“Daddy comin’?” Mia asked, not moving from her spot and letting out a sigh of contentment as Carson started playing with her curls.
“Daddy just ran to the store real quick, but he’ll be back soon. Now let’s lay back down.”
“I see him.”
“Mia,” Carson started to reason, but stopped when Mia leaned back to look up at her with those big brown eyes that were her absolute weakness. Something both Mia and Auston tended to use to their advantage. “You want to go downstairs and wait for your daddy to get home, don’t you?”
Mia just blinked in response, then giggled.
“You are your father’s daughter.”
And with that, Carson got up off the bed and carried Mia and Whaley downstairs to the living room, with Frank in tow, of course. The two girls got curled up on the couch together and Carson put on the sleepytime episode of Bluey for them to watch while they waited for Auston. Normally, Carson and Auston tried to refrain from screens when it was bedtime for Mia, but there were sometimes exceptions and this night was one of them.
Realistically, it was only 8:30pm, which was around Mia’s usual bedtime. Again, with the time change from travelling to Sweden, Mia’s bedtime routine had been off since getting home. She fell asleep almost right after dinner, hardly making it through bathtime then absolutely crashing shortly after 6:30pm. Carson knew Mia be up for a little while, but given how tired Mia was, there was no way she’d be up for very long once Auston was home.
Carson began gently scratching Mia’s head with her manicured nails, something she knew Mia loved. It was obvious Mia was content with the little sigh that left her mouth as she cuddled closer to her mom, eyes still fixated on the TV. Carson smiled as she looked down at Mia, then suddenly felt herself getting emotional over the thought of her sweet little girl potentially being a big sister. The thought hit Carson like a tidal wave and she started feeling all types of things, however, something kept her from getting too deep into her thoughts.
A door opened and closed from the kitchen and soft footsteps soon followed. It was too soon for Auston to be home yet and the only door in the kitchen that wasn’t the sliding glass ones leading to the back deck was the one that led to the basement. So there was only one other person it could be.
“Hey,” Matthew greeted as stepped into the living room. His hair was damp, indicating he showered recently and he too was dressed in a t-shirt and sweatpants. A common attire in the Matthews household. “Heard some commotion up here, just figured I’d come up and check to make sure everything’s ok.”
“Oh, shoot, I’m sorry if we were loud,” Carson said and sniffled, internally cursing herself for not realizing she started crying. But, she tried playing it off. “Auston just ran to the store to get something for me and, well, little miss over here woke up in the process.”
“Matty!” Mia greeted as excitedly as her tired little self could.
“Hi, Mia,” Matthew chuckled then stepped into the living room and in front of the couch so he could crouch down to pet Frank but also be at eye level with Mia. “Are you giving your mom a tough time about going back to sleep?”
“Nooooo,” Mia giggled. “Daddy home soon.”
“Ah, yes, everything is about Daddy,” Carson teased, making Matthew laugh as he glanced at her, his expression falling when he noticed she had tears in her eyes.
“Carson, are you alright?” He asked, concern written all over his features.
“I’m fine!” Carson assured and quickly wiped away the tears welled in her eyes before Mia noticed. Matthew picked up on what she was doing, trying to conceal her tears from Mia. So, he didn’t press it but he gave her a pointed look as he moved from his crouching position and onto the couch on the other side of Mia. “I promise. You don’t have to worry about me, but thank you for checking in.”
Carson gave him a genuine smile. Matthew was so sweet and considerate, she truly loved having him stay with them. She’d gotten to know him a lot better in Arizona during the summer as he trained with Auston. He was a great fit in their household and Mia adored him.
“Carson-.”
“It’s nothing bad, Matty. Just got a lot on my mind.”
“Auston would not be happy knowing you’re upset.”
“I know, and that’s why we don’t need to tell him,” Carson responded and looked at him with a wide-eyed expression, silently pleading that this stayed between them.
Matthew let out a breath of defeat, then nodded. He seemed like he was going to drop it but still wanted to say something. However, before he could, the garage door opening sounded and they both knew Auston was home.
“Daddy!” Mia said quietly, but excitedly. She didn’t move from her spot, though, because she knew she didn’t have to. Auston would come to her.
Even Frank knew what that noise meant and didn’t bark this time, instead, he got up and trotted out of the living room, assumedly headed down the hallway to the door that led to the garage. A moment later, that same door opened and closed.
“Oh, hi Frank,” Auston greeted quietly and Carson could picture him taking time to pet their Goldendoodle before coming further into the house. “What’re you doing down here, hmm? I thought you were upstairs with Mia. Let’s go find Carson.”
Carson smiled listening to him, then glanced down at Mia, who was still focused on her show.
“He’s gonna be in for a surprise when he sees you awake, little girl,” Carson whispered as she gently pushed Mia’s curls back away from her face, then leaned down to peck the top of her head.
She and Matthew then glanced at each other while they listened to Auston’s footsteps approach, then he soon appeared.
“Carse, I wasn’t sure which one to get so I got multiple,” Auston stated as he walked into the room holding three different pregnancy test boxes, but halted once he noticed it wasn’t just his wife in the living room anymore. Carson’s hands immediately covered her face in embarrassment at the boxes he was waving around. “Woah.”
“Hi, dada,” Mia greeted all smiley as she leaned forward so she could see him.
“Hi, baby girl. And what are you doing up?”
Mia just giggled in response while Carson peaked between her fingers to watch the scene unfold. Auston looked so puzzled at Mia being awake, then a flash of surprise when he saw it wasn’t just his girls and Matthew was there too.
“Clear Blue,” he mouthed, squinting at one of the boxes Auston held before his eyes widened in realization. “Oh, OH! Wait, are you two?”
Carson felt her face going so red, then groaned as she flopped back against the couch, earning a questioning glance from Mia.
“We don’t know,” Carson said eventually. “I, I think so, yeah. But we’re not sure. That’s why Auston ran to the store to get some tests, so we could know.”
“Yeah, surprise, I guess,” Auston spoke up then made a face that resembled the grimacing face emoji. Then his eyes fell on Mia again and he looked like he was pondering something. “Did I wake her up?”
“The garage,” Auston, Carson and Matthew said simultaneously as Auston put all the pieces together.
“Gawage,” Mia repeated as she leaned back against the couch again and let out another big yawn, still unbothered. Carson couldn’t help the smile tugging at her lips as she looked down at Mia again, but soon her gaze was back on Auston.
“You got three different tests?”
“I got five different tests, actually,” he replied, putting the three boxes he held in one hand before reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out two more. He then took off his jacket and hung it up before making his way around the couch and sitting next to Carson.“There were so many different brands and types. I kinda decided just to wing it and hope for the best.”
Carson’s heart swelled with so much love for the man sitting before her. She could feel her eyes beginning to water again, but she played it off as she let out a small laugh and shook her head.
“Thank you,” she told him softly as they made eye contact again. “I appreciate you going to get those for me.”
“Of course. Anything for you, bub. You know I don’t mind.”
Carson smiled again, but then her attention snapped back to Mia as she let out a groan then laid her head on the pillow next to her and snuggled Whaley closer to her. Carson and Auston then looked at each other and chuckled, they were thinking the same thing about their dramatic toddler.
“We need to get her back to sleep,” Carson stated and Auston nodded in agreement.
“For our sanity and hers, yes,” he replied, leaning over to tap Mia’s arm. “Mini, why don’t we go back upstairs to bed?”
“Bwuey, daddy,” Mia said as she shook her head and pointed to the TV. Her episode of Bluey was still on and she was determined to finish watching it. “Mommy cuddow?”
Carson and Auston glanced at each other again and considered their options regarding Mia being awake and Carson somehow sneaking away to drink some water and then take the pregnancy tests, despite Mia wanting her to lay down and cuddle with her.
“Maybe we should wait till morning, Aus,” Carson sighed and glanced down at the boxes. “I don’t think it’s the right time.”
Auston nodded in understanding and went to respond, but another voice spoke up before he could.
“Mia, can I watch Bluey with you?” Matthew asked as he scooted toward her.
Mia’s face lit up at the idea and she soon sat back up and moved the pillow away before patting the now-empty space so he’d sit there. “Yeah, Matty!”
Matthew smiled as he got situated in the spot next to her and Mia wasn’t long in leaning against him and letting out a sigh of contentment as she looked back at the TV. Matthew then looked at Carson and Auston and spoke up again.
“You two go do what you need to do, together. I’ll hang with Mia until you’re done, but take your time.” Then he lowered his voice into a whisper that only they would hear. “Maybe she’ll fall back asleep.”
Carson truly appreciated the offer, but she didn’t want Matthew to feel like he had to babysit. It wasn’t the first time he’d watched Mia for them since moving in. He hung out with Mia often if he didn’t have anything else going on and the two had a great relationship. He’d even talked to Carson and Auston about wanting to introduce his girlfriend to them but especially Mia when she came for a visit in the new year. But, still, Carson didn’t want him to feel like watching Mia was a trade-off for them letting him stay there or anything of the sort.
She was about to tell him he didn’t need to do that, but Auston squeezing her knee in reassurance prevented her from doing so.
“That’d be really helpful,” Auston stated, then stood up from the couch. “If you don’t mind.”
“Not at all,” Matthew assured them with a smile.
Auston nodded in thanks then looked down at Carson and smirked. “Come on, you.”
Carson looked up at him and shook her head slightly before standing up as well. She didn’t say anything as she took two of the pregnancy tests from Auston’s right hand and placed her left hand there instead, squeezing his hand before looking back at Matthew.
“Thank you,” she said, then looked back at Auston with and a small smile. “Lead the way.”
No questions came from Mia as her parents made their way around the couch and out of the living room. With how she was fighting so hard to keep her eyes open, they didn’t expect her to put up much of a fuss about them leaving.
Before going upstairs, Carson and Auston stopped in the kitchen to grab a bottle of water for Carson to drink before she took the tests. Then they headed up to their master bedroom together.
They sat on the bed together, chatting about how their lives could change depending on what those tests said while Carson sipped her water. Despite still feeling anxious, talking it all through with Auston made Carson feel a lot better and she was able to fully admit how she was hoping for a positive result on the tests.
About twenty minutes after Carson finished her water, she was ready to head into the ensuite with the tests and see what they said.
“I’ll be right here,” Auston told Carson as he gently tipped her chin up to look at him before leaning in and placing a soft kiss on her lips. He knew she wanted her space as she took the tests.
“I’ll come get you once I’m done and we can look at them together,” Carson responded then pecked his lips again before standing up off the bed. She then took a deep breath, then headed into the ensuite and did what she needed to do.
About ten minutes later, Carson left the bathroom with her phone in hand and a timer set. She remained quiet as she entered the bedroom and crawled into the spot beside where Auston was leaning against the headboard on their bed. He didn’t say anything, just pulled Carson closer and let her cuddle into his side, knowing all that needed to be said would happen in the next few minutes or so. He watched as she kept tapping her phone screen to life, anxiously counting down the seconds to when the two of them could go see what each of the tests said.
Carson was content just laying there with the love of her life that after a few moments, she did stop constantly checking the timer on her phone and just enjoyed being with him. She wasn’t sure how much time passed and could feel herself dozing off with how comfortable she was, but then the alarm went off.
They both jumped slightly and Carson scrambled to cancel the alarm so the noise would subside, then took a deep breath and looked up at Auston.
“Ready?” He asked.
“Yeah,” Carson spoke quietly. “As ready as I’ll ever be.”
The two of them got off the bed and headed to the ensuite hand in hand.
Carson had left the door open so they could easily see the four tests she took sitting where she lined them up and upon seeing them again, she felt a familiar anxious knot form in her stomach. She saved the fifth one on purpose for if she needed further confirmation of whether she was indeed pregnant or not, and after one final glance at Auston, she stepped into the room first to see what each one said.
After glancing down at the first test, Carson’s heart dropped to the pit of her stomach. There was no plus or minus symbol, no message on the tiny screen indicating what she wanted to know so badly, no nothing. Without even thinking, she reached out and grabbed Auston’s hand, hoping for some reassurance because she could already feel her hope slipping away, but then he spoke up.
“Bub, look at the other three.”
So, she did, and sure enough, each one stated that yes, she was pregnant.
“Oh, my God,” Carson gasped as a sob involuntarily left her mouth. She immediately moved a hand up to cover her mouth and looked at Auston with watery eyes before he pulled her in for a tight hug. “We’re having another baby. I- oh, my God.”
Carson was full-on sobbing while Auston chuckled at her words before moving away so that he could put both hands gently on the sides of her neck and kiss her. He had happy tears in his eyes.
“Everything’s going to be ok,” he promised then placed his forehead against hers. “We’re going to be parents again, Carse.”
“I’ve never been a mom of two before,” Carson blubbered, then let Auston pull her into his embrace again.
“I know, bub,” Auston soothed while rubbing his hand up and down her back. “But, we’re going to figure it out. We always do.”
Carson couldn’t tell with how her face was buried against the fabric of the hoodie Auston wore, but he was smiling so damn wide. He was ecstatic and instinctively wanted to know more. How far along was she? When would the doctor predict her due date would be? And most importantly, was the baby healthy?
Auston had so many questions, but he was aware that it wasn’t the time to ask them. He knew this was going to be hers and his little secret for the time being. Although he was content with that, he was just so excited and couldn’t wait to see how the rest would all play out.
The two of them stood there for a moment, relishing in the news and not letting go of one another. Eventually, Carson moved away and Auston gently cupped her cheeks, looking at her with so much love and adoration before they both laughed at how emotional they were being.
“I love you, Auston Matthews,” Carson stated firmly, acting as if he’d ever forget.
“And I love you, Carson,” he replied. “I love that we can make it through anything in this life together.”
“I don’t deserve you.”
“Don’t you dare say that.”
Carson didn’t argue, instead just wrapped her arms around Auston’s middle and crashed against his chest again. Auston started playing with her hair and the two stood there in silence for a few moments before they heard footsteps coming up the stairs.
“Mia,” they said in unison as they leaned away and looked at each other with wide eyes, suddenly remembering Matthew was watching her. The two of them moved away from the other and Auston followed Carson as she beelined out of the bathroom, through their bedroom and into the hallway before stopping.
At the other end of the hall, Matthew rounded the corner holding Whaley and a very asleep Mia in his arms. Frank was right there too.
“Oh, hey,” he greeted and came to a stop once he noticed Carson and Auston standing there. “She passed out about fifteen minutes ago so I figured I’d bring her up to bed. You two alright?”
Matthew wasn’t prying, just asking a genuine question to two people he cared for, which Carson and Auston knew. The two of them glanced at each other and then smiled when they realized they were thinking the same thing about sharing the news with him.
“Yeah, we’re alright,” Carson assured as she and Auston looked back at Matthew, then she took a breath. “But, there’s going to be a new addition to the house sometime between now and next season.”
“No way,” Matthew smiled widely. “That’s amazing. Congratulations, you two!”
“Thanks, man,” Auston said, smiling too as he walked towards Matthew and took Mia from his hold. “Here, I got her.”
Matthew gently passed Mia over, making sure she didn’t get woken up and smiled as she nuzzled closer to her dad even in her sleep. Then he glanced between Auston and Carson.
“Wait, I’m the only other person who knows, aren’t I?”
“You’re part of this household, so it seems fitting that you are,” Carson told him with a grin. “We’ll figure out how to tell our families and friends after I see my doctor and figure out all the details. Then we’ll go from there about everyone else knowing.”
She was referring to the media and fans as everyone else. Matthew knew that and respected the privacy they understandably would want during a time like this.
“Your secret is safe with me,” he promised.
“Hope you’re prepared for the absolute fit Mitch is going to have knowing that you knew before he did,” Auston said to Matthew, making all three adults laugh.
“I’ve been telling him being Carson’s twin has nothing on me being the one living in your guys’ basement!”
“Oh, I can imagine he takes that statement very personally,” Carson chuckled and shook her head. After a brief moment, Matthew spoke up again.
“Well, I’ll let you two enjoy the rest of your night together,” he said and handed Auston Whaley as well. “Congrats again. Tone, what time are we heading out for practice in the morning?”
“Probably around 10,” Auston told him.
“Sounds good.”
“I’ll have breakfast ready before you go,” Carson chimed in. “Let me know if there’s anything particular you’d like.”
“You know I’m not going to complain about any of the food you cook me, Carse,” Matthew told her. “It’s always so good.”
“Kiss ass,” Auston teased, earning a scowl from Matthew and an eye roll from Carson.
“Have a good night, Matty. Thanks again for watching Mia,” Carson said and Matthew assured them it was no problem before heading back downstairs.
“You go get ready for bed,” Auston spoke up again. “I’ll put Mia in her bed then I’ll be right there.”
“Ok, sounds like a plan.”
Auston then dipped out of sight and into Mia’s room and Carson was about to go back into their bedroom, but stopped herself when she remembered they’d left lights and the TV on downstairs.
She scurried past Mia’s room to the top of the stairs but didn’t have to go down them when she heard Matthew walking around the main level. She could tell that he was turning all the lights off before going back downstairs for the night and smiled at the thoughtful action.
Without having to go downstairs, Carson made her way back to the master bedroom. Once inside, she changed into a pair of silky pyjamas, then went into the ensuite to brush her teeth. She couldn’t help the tears that pricked her eyes or the smile on her lips as she glanced down at the positive pregnancy tests. Everything felt right in her world.
Auston entered the room just as she was finishing brushing her teeth and placed a kiss on the top of her head before he started doing the same. Carson squeezed Auston’s arm as they looked at each other in the mirror before going back into the bedroom and climbing into their bed to wait for him there.
Soon, Auston was getting into their bed as well and pulled Carson close. He held her, gently playing with her hair as they talked about the future and what this new addition to their family meant. Carson was eventually lulled to sleep by how relaxed Auston’s touches made her feel and Auston wasn’t long to do the same, welcoming a peaceful sleep as he anticipated everything that was to come.

You swore as the bus you were waiting for drove straight past, even spraying you with water from a puddle.
“I swear this day couldn’t get any worse,” You hiss, starting to walk back to your apartment you shared with your boyfriend, Auston.
Your day couldn’t get any worse. First you were late for work causing your boss to yell at you. Then when your boss wanted you to photocopy something, the photocopier jammed and they got even angrier with you. To add to the stress at work, everyone seemed to be bitching about you and gossiping about your lovelife with a certain Maple Leaf. Sadly it didn’t stop there. After work, you had broken the heel of your shoe running to the bus stop. Now the bus drove straight past you, drenching you with water on the way. You seriously doubt this day could get any worse.
But it seemed like the world was against you because heaven decided to open up and dump all the rain now while you were walking home! What made it worse was you had forgotten your umbrella so you had to walk home in the pouring rain with a broken heel.
“Fuck this,” You state, stopping and yanking off your heels, deciding to walk barefoot, “Stupid boss, stupid coworkers, stupid bus, stupid weather.”.
Auston was playing some NHL 18 with Mitch and Will when loud banging cut through his conversations with the boys.
“Auston, open up,” He hears his girlfriend beg.
His eyebrows knitted together, wondering why you didn’t just let yourself in. He shrugged his thoughts away and paused his game, going to let her in. When he did open the door though, he was greeted with you, standing in front of his, barefoot and drenched from the rain.
You pushed past Auston, just wanting to take a warm shower. Muttering about how shitty your day was, you grabbed a pair of sweatpants and one of Auston’s Leaf’s hoodies before heading to your bathroom. To your surprise, Auston was already there, drawing you a steaming bath, even having a bath bomb from lush prepared.
“Auston,” You awed, “You didn’t have to do that.”
He shrugs, smiling and wrapping his arms around your waist, “I thought you needed it, it seemed like you had a rough day.”
You couldn’t help but smile and peck his lips, before stripping from your wet work uniform. Auston helped you into the tub before disappearing from the bathroom, returning with a glass of wine and a beer for himself.
“Join me?” You ask, holding your hand out for your boyfriend.
He didn’t reply, just stripped off his pyjamas and slid in behind you. You relaxed back into Auston’s chest, his arms wrapped around your waist holding you close.
“Wanna talk about your day?” Auston mumbled, pressing a kiss to your head.
You simply shook your head, taking a sip of your wine and closing your eyes.
Auston softly smiled down at you, laying in his arms, hair in a messy bun and makeup less. He always thought you were beautiful but he couldn’t help but think you looked absolutely stunning. He nuzzled his face in your hair, pressing tiny kisses against your scalp.
“I love you,” He mumbled, holding you a little tighter.
You hum in happiness, taking hand and pressing a light kiss to it, “I love you too Aus.”

LET'S GO, BABY!
FAQs/RULES: Yes, we're going to be running a fandom event for Auston Matthews! You create something, we reblog and share it!
The rules are simple:
Your work has to feature Auston Matthews as an Alpha.
There are no restrictions on pairing. This means polyamorous relationships, or no relationships. You can ship Auston with anyone and everyone you want. Auston x Reader fics included.
There are no restrictions on the type of relationship. You can have alpha/omega relationships or go for something less conventional like alpha/alpha, alpha/beta, etc.
There are no restrictions on the rating of the fic. Omegaverse is not inherently sexual, so works of ALL ratings are welcomed and encouraged. Some examples of G/T ideas include: an act such as nesting, courting, purring while cuddling, scenting, getting territorial. Please just tag the rating accordingly.
Your work must be tagged appropriately. You must use the tag “Omegaverse” as the tag “a/b/o” is considered offensive, so we ask that you please avoid using this terminology. Kindly stick to: “omegaverse”, “alpha/beta/omega”, “alpha/omega dynamics”, “alpha/alpha relationships” or some variation of those.
All modes of creation are accepted with the following minimums:
Fics: 750 words
Art: finished sketch (inked/lined, coloured or shaded)
Moodboards (9 pictures)
Fanvids (2 minutes)
Podfics (4 minutes)
Other crafts (equivalent of the above - if unsure, give us a shout!) There is no maximum to the limits above, and no limit on how many works you create.
POSTING (APRIL 2024):
Please tag us on Tumblr (“@willyismybicycle”) when posting during the month of April 2024 to get reblogged! [Side note: sometimes Tumblr mentions kind of suck. If you don't see your work reblogged during our event, please let us know.] You can use the tags listed below for the event and we also have an AO3 Collection for this event.
AO3 Collection: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/AlphaAustonApril
Tumblr Tags: #Omegaverse, #AlphaAustonApril2024, #NHL RPF, #hockey RPF, etc.
We do not require a masterlist if you create more than one work, but it is entirely up to you if you'd like to make one. If tagged, we will reblog this masterlist too.

As It Was with Auston Matthews
In this world, it's just us
You know it's not the same as it was…
“He’s miserable without you, you know.”
You let your eyes finish scanning the skyline from your perch at the downtown rooftop restaurant. Your gaze slowly met Freddie’s again, but you said nothing.
He continued, undeterred, yet gentle. Thoughtful. “He doesn’t know I’m seeing you, so it’s not like he told me to say that,” he assured, sitting back against the patio chair which seemed far too small for his broad, muscular form. “But he misses you. I know he does. And I know that’s, like, the most cliche thing for a best friend to say to the ex post-breakup, but…” Freddie shrugged. “You’re not just ‘the ex.’ I think you know that.”
You chewed at the inner corner of your lip and, for a brief moment, wished you hadn’t agreed to this dinner after all. Because, goddammit, could this man still see right through you.
You were in Raleigh for a work conference – just a couple of days, in and out. You could have popped in and back out with no trace of you left behind; you’d debated dozens of times whether or not to tell Freddie that you’d even be in town at all.
Because, like he said. You were the ex, and he was the best friend – Auston’s, that is.
But as you’d sat at your gate at JFK the day before waiting to board, maybe against your better judgment, maybe wanting some sense of familiarity in the unfamiliar world you found yourself in these days, your fingers were soon flying across your keyboard.
Hi, Fred. I hope you’re good. I know it’s been a while, but I’m about to fly to Raleigh for a couple days for work and wanted to reach out. Wanna grab a drink sometime?
You didn’t even have time to tuck your phone back into your bag before a response flashed onscreen.
So great to hear from you. Yes, let’s meet up. Let me take you to dinner. You say when.
So, you’d arranged to meet him the very next night, and immediately fell back into your easy way with one another. His big arms nearly crushed you in a hug, leaving you giggling. You bantered back and forth just like you’d done hundreds of times back in Toronto – at Auston’s house, at bars after games, at team events both official and impromptu. Freddie considered Auston a brother, and ever since you’d seamlessly entered their social group via mutual friends, he had viewed you as something of a younger sister, making the bond among the three of you something special – even sacred.
But, no matter how much some things felt the same, many things were different now – that much was clear, from the foreign landscape of the city around you, to the fact that it had taken nearly two hours, not until after dessert and another round of drinks, for Freddie to even summon the courage to broach the topic of Auston Matthews. A subject that everyone else in your life had allowed you to avoid since the split six months back… everyone, that is, except for Freddie. You had known this would be the case, and hell, in some masochistic way, maybe this was exactly why you’d felt the need to see Fred on this trip.
You heaved a sigh, folding your arms across your torso and tucking your hair behind your ear.
“What am I supposed to say to that, Fred?” you eventually asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
“You don’t have to say anything,” he replied, shaking his head. “Or do anything. Not if you’re happy, not if you don’t miss him.” His face softened as he studied you. “But… if I’m honest, I just don’t know that I’m convinced that that’s the case. So I felt like I owed it to you to bring it up. To both of you.”
You leaned forward, resting your elbows on the table. And suddenly, your heart was on your sleeve.
“I thought I’d be good on my own again, you know?” you said, your focus shifting into the distance, past Fred, or even through him. “I was before him. I thought I needed to get back out there, find myself like everybody talks about. But you know what?” You scoffed. “Turns out that’s just… complete bullshit. Because I know who I am. I have for a long time now. And I guess I can be on my own if I have to be, but… I-I don’t wanna be. I really believe that I’m better when I’m with him,” you said, sitting up straighter with each word as if the moment of clarity was pulling you up and out of yourself.
Fred smiled proudly. “I think you’re both better together,” he concluded.
_____
Your heart thudded against your chest and inside your ears the entire way back to your hotel, through the lobby, up the elevator, and down the hallway. Your hands shook violently as you forced them to remain at your sides, though they were being drawn to your phone as if by magnetic pull. The second you opened your door, you kicked off your shoes, tossed your bag onto the table, and sat at the end of the bed, your phone already unlocked, your thumb already hovering over that name that you hadn’t been able to bring yourself to remove from your list of Favorites. You tapped the screen and held your breath.
Ring. Ring. Ri-
“Hello?” You’d never heard his usually even, unfazed voice filled with so much confusion.
“Hi… it’s me,” you greeted stupidly, then immediately winced. “As if that wasn’t obvious. Sorry, I-”
“No, no, don’t apologize,” Auston said swiftly. “I’m just… I’m glad you called. Is… is everything alright?” Suddenly he had the distinct fear that maybe something was wrong with someone in your family, maybe one of your mutual friends. Maybe you felt like there was no one else you could call. He had to get to you as fast as he could. He couldn’t leave you to deal with this alone. He-
“Oh, yeah, everything’s fine,” you answered automatically, then thought through your own response. “I mean, overall, yes, things are okay, but I… I just had dinner with Fred.”
Auston slowly switched the phone from one hand to the other, convinced he hadn’t heard you properly.
“You did…?” he spoke, clearing his throat. “How-how was that?” Your call alone, paired with this new information, had his head swimming.
“Um… you know, it was so good to see him,” you answered innocently. “It had been way too long.” You paused then, unsure of where to go next despite being the one so hell-bent on making this call.
Auston filled in the silence. “Well, that’s good,” he said softly. “I’m sure he was really happy to see you… I gotta say, I’m a little jealous.”
You stared out the window, an involuntary smirk playing at the corners of your lips. “Of who, me or Fred?” you joked. You simply couldn’t resist.
“Very funny,” Auston said dryly, pretending not to be amused, though you could literally hear the smile in his voice.
You rubbed at your forehead, eyes fluttering closed. You needed to just go there.
“How are you, Auston?” you asked sincerely, emphasizing each word so that he would recognize that you weren’t asking that with the goal of casual conversation.
He chuckled sadly, a sound your heart wasn’t prepared for. “I guess I should lie and spew some shit about how great I’m doing, how I’ve never been happier, but… that’s… not exactly true. Honestly, I’m just, I’m not doing so well.”
You tucked your chin to your chest and were surprised to watch a tear fall onto your light-wash jeans. You sniffed, swiping at your eyes with the back of your hand.
“Yeah, me either,” you all but whispered, and Auston could hear the tension in your voice.
“Baby, don’t cry,” he pleaded, the term of endearment sounding as natural as your given name.
“I never should have left you,” you cried, voice shaking. “I never should have taken this stupid job in New York. Auston, I have never been happier than those two years with you in Toronto.”
He assumed he could not be hearing you correctly, that there was simply no way, because these are the words he’d longed to hear for months now, every night as he fell asleep and dreamed of you asking to come home. This conversation had to be a figment of his imagination.
“Baby… what’s gotten into you? Are you… what are you saying?”
“I’m saying,” you began, drying your tears as best you could, “that I want you back. And I know that’s like, super fucking unfair of me to say, and you have every right to-”
“Where are you right now?” he asked, and you heard shuffling on the other end of the line, keys jingling. Your brow furrowed.
“I’m in Raleigh for work,” you answered.
“Don’t move,” he instructed, stressing the syllables as if his life depended on you hearing his words. “I’ll be on the next flight. Give me a few hours.”
Your hand flew to your mouth as you dissolved into more tears – this time tears of elation.
“I love you, Auston,” you said, beaming, because really, what else was there to say or do?
“I love you,” he echoed. “It’s me, and you, forever, alright? Just us, always.”
“Always.”

Consequences Chapter Seventeen: A.M. Imagine
Tessa wasn’t usually one to worry about Auston not contacting her all the time, but lately he hadn’t been contacting her at all. She was the one doing all of the initial texting, calling, and making plans. And when she did, she barely got any real response from him. He was, for lack of a better word, distant. And she had no idea why.
“T,” Lydia poked her head into Tessa’s room, finding her best friend laying flat on her back on her floor, her phone held tightly in one hand. “What are you doing, silly girl?”
Tessa barely moved her head to face Lydia, not wanting to move. “Just thinking.”
“Oh no, that’s never good,” Lydia laughed, moving to lay next to her on her side. “What’s wrong?”
Tessa sighed. She was being ridiculous, right? So he wasn’t calling or texting her in the mornings or right after practice or before he went to bed. So he wasn’t asking her to hang out. So he’s been a little dismissive when she asks about making plans. That doesn’t mean anything, right?
“Tess,” Lydia whispered gently, reaching her hand out to take the phone out of Tessa’s grip and replace it with her own hand.
Tessa reached up with the hand not being held by Lydia’s to wipe a stray tear that had slipped out. She wasn’t being ridiculous, and that was exactly the problem. Something was wrong with Auston, and most likely her.
“I think Auston’s pulling away from me,” she finally whispered, as more tears slipped out.
“What? Why?” Lydia was shocked. She knew Auston hadn’t really been around the apartment lately, but he had also been on a pretty long road trip and spent some time home in Arizona. Lydia also knew just how much Auston adored Tessa.
Tessa proceeded to explain his lack of contact, his general disinterest, and just how she felt. When she was finished, she was on her side facing Lydia’s sad face.
“Oh, honey,” Lydia said gently, “Are you sure it’s about you? I know he hasn’t been playing as well as he’s used to lately, and the Leafs aren’t doing so well. It could just be that? You haven’t been through a slump together yet.”
“No, it’s not that,” Tessa was sure of it. “Something is off, Lyd. I think he’s starting to have second thoughts about me and us.”
It hurt to finally say it out loud, but it also felt relieving.
“You need to talk to him, T. That’s the only way you’ll know for sure.”
__
Lydia was right and Tessa knew it. The only way she’d get any definite answers was by asking the necessary questions. Now it was just a matter of getting him to come over.
Tessa clicked on his name, dialling the familiar number. It rang longer than it usually did, and she wondered if maybe he was napping or playing video games with the guys.
On the seventh ring, he picked up. “Hey,” he said plainly. “What’s up?”
I’m fine, Auston, thank you for asking, Tessa thought.
“Hey,” she willed her voice not to tremble. “Are you busy?”
“Uh,” Auston hesitated. “Not really. What’s up?”
“Can you come over? I can make dinner or something,” Tessa offered.
“Tess, I’m pretty beat today,” Auston replied. “Coach made us bag skate today because we’ve been so shit lately.”
“I understand,” Tessa tried to push through. “But I really want to talk. I feel like we haven’t really had a chance to lately.”
“We talk every day.”
“We exchange pleasantries and give a general overview of our days, Auston,” Tessa sighed. He was making this hard on purpose. “You don’t have to spend the night.”
She could hear him sigh and start to move on the other end of the line.
“Sure, I’ll be over in a half hour,” Auston replied shortly. “But I already ate, so don’t worry about making anything.”
__
When the knock on the door finally came exactly 30 minutes later, Tessa felt her stomach drop. He wasn’t going to break up with her. He was just having a rough time and didn’t know how to ask for support. Lydia was right. She had to be.
“It’s open,” she called from the kitchen where she had been making tea. The door opened and a very cozy but tired looking Auston walked through, making his way into the living room, barely looking her way.
“Hey,” he said plainly.
“Hey,” she responded. “I’m just making tea.”
Auston finally looked at her, and sighed. This girl, the one he loved, who didn’t even know he loved her, looked so uncomfortable and unsure in her own home. A very different girl from the one he first met at the Launchpad event who said no so easily. He was being an ass and he knew it, but why did she have to make this so much harder? He knew that seeing her would just make this harder, which was why he had been avoiding her. He sat on the arm of the couch, facing her as she poured hot water into two mugs at the kitchen island.
“Tess,” Auston called gently.
“Hmm?” she responded, not looking up.
“Tess,” he repeated, with more force this time. Tessa looked up from the counter and as soon as she caught his eyes, she knew. And he knew she knew. “We need to talk.”
Tessa put the kettle down, her eyes blurring as they filled with tears. She refused to let him see her cry, so she turned her back to him to return the kettle to the counter and quickly swiped at her eyes, hoping he didn’t see it. He did, of course. Keeping her back to him, Tessa could hear him move and start walking towards her.
When Auston reached her, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her back flush to his chest, and resting his head against hers.
“I’m so sorry, Tess,” he whispered, pressing his lips against her temple. He could feel her start to shake under his grasp and just squeezed her tighter. They stood like that for ten minutes before Tessa started to pull away. She wiped her eyes and cheeks aggressively, and turned to face him.
“Why?” she asked, her eyes staring into his.
“Why?” he repeated. He tried to keep his eyes on hers, but he could see the hurt he was causing, the hurt he promised not to cause, and had to look away.
“Yes, why? Why are you doing this?”
“Tess, it’s not you, it’s-”
“Do not finish that sentence with ‘me’,” she spit out angrily. How dare he try to break up with her with some standard fucking cliche. “I deserve more than that, don’t you think?”
Auston closed his eyes and sighed. She was right, but how was he supposed to tell her that he was breaking up with her because he loved her?
“Tess, I just think with everything going on, it’s just not a great idea for us to be together right now. I have a lot going on, and I know I’ve been a pretty shitty boyfriend to you lately,” he gave her a pointed look but didn’t see any rebuttal coming his way on that point. So she agrees, he had been shitty and he knew it. “Which I am sorry for, by the way. You didn’t deserve that.”
“You’re right, I didn’t,” Tessa crossed her arms against her chest. “I also deserve more than ‘it’s not a great idea right now,’ don’t you think?”
“I don’t have another reason, Tess,” Auston sighed, fighting the urge to reach out and hold her. The fire in her eyes told him it wasn’t wise. She had shifted so quickly from being sad to being angry that he wasn’t sure what would be okay, so he kept his distance and kept his back up against her counter as they stood on opposite ends of the kitchen.
“So you fight for me to give you a chance, even though you knew I had reservations, you promise you won’t hurt me, you introduce me to your family...” Tessa trailed off, trying to compose herself. “And what? You’re having a rough couple of weeks at your job and I’m the part you think cutting out will help?”
“I just need to focus on hockey right now,” Auston responded shortly, figuring it would be easier the less gentle he was. “My priority is and has always been hockey. I’m just trying to be fair to you, here.”
“Ohhh,” Tessa laughed ruefully and rolled her eyes. “I get it. You’re breaking up with me because it’s in MY best interests. Right. I understand.”
Tessa started to walk towards the door, picking up the jacket he left hanging on the arm of the couch along the way.
“Well, thanks for coming over finally,” Tessa stated with no emotion. “I guess I’ll see you around.” She stood at her door, not looking in his direction. She waited until she heard him finally start to move. When Auston reached the door, she held out his jacket to him.
“Tess,” he began, not grabbing the jacket yet. “I never meant to hurt you. I care about you so much.” Tessa responded by pushing his jacket into his chest. Auston reached for the hand that was holding his jacket, but she pulled it away as soon as she felt contact and folded her arms across her chest again.
“I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear, but I hope we can stay friends or even just in the same friend group. Everyone really loves you and would hate it if you weren’t around anymore,” he waited for a response, some acknowledgement of his words, but it never came.
“I’ll have one of the girls bring you a box of your stuff that you’ve left here. Now please leave,” Tessa opened the door. Auston sighed and leaned forward to press a soft kiss to her forehead.
“I really am sorry, Tessa,” he whispered one last time, before making his way out the door. As soon as he was over the threshold, the door closed and locked behind him. He leaned back against the door and closed his eyes, as a single tear trickled down his cheek. He waited to hear her footsteps walk away from the door on the other side, but they never came. He turned his head slowly, pressing his ear up against the door. What he heard broke his heart even more. Tessa’s soft cries.
What had he done?

1 ★ Christmas
It was one of the few days off the guys were given across the season and most of the team were gathering at the Tavares house for christmas dinner. A tradition John started when he became captain.
Auston was watching you from across the room, a smile on his face as he saw you talk to Tessa about something. His smile widened as he watched you throw your head back laughing. When he looked back in front of him, he found 4 pairs of eyes staring him down.
“What?” he asks
“Nothing,” John, Mitch, Willy and Morgan say all at the same time.
“Here we go,” Auston says rolling his eyes
“We didn’t say anything,” Morgan says and Auston gives him a deadpan look.
“Yet” Morgan amends his statement
“Just get it over with,” Auston sighs
“You brought a date,” Morgan starts
“To a team event,” John says
“A woman. A really hot woman.” Willy says grinning a little when Auston glares at him.
“You never bring dates to team gatherings. Ever.” Mitch says
“First of all, it’s not a date, she’s a friend. The same friend I’ve been telling you guys about for months-”
“In all those months you failed to mention that she’s a woman,” Mo points out
“A very hot woman,” Willy says again and lets out a little laugh when Auston punches him on the arm.
“I don’t see why that matters,” Auston mumbles
“Mm you don’t?” Mitch asks looking at him pointedly
“So there’s nothing going on between the two of you?” John asks
“No. Now are we done with the interrogations?” Auston asks and wait for them all to nod before making his way over to you. He wraps his arms around waist from behind as you look out the window admiring the christmas lights.
You shriek when you feel his cold nose press into your neck.
“You little rat, don’t do that!” you say turning around and looping your arms around his neck.
“What you just call me? A rat? Careful, or you’re walking home tonight in the cold.” he says, pinching your waist and you laugh.
“You would never let me walk home alone…would you?” you ask pouting slightly when he jokingly takes a few seconds to think about it.
“No, of course not. I would just be punishing myself since I’d be worried sick about you the entire time.” he says and you smile, resting your cheek against his chest.
“Let’s go eat, I’m starving,” Auston says, squeezing your hip and you laugh.
“When are you not?”
Throughout dinner Auston has a hand on your thigh, tracing patterns lazily, and keeps his gaze on you, choosing to ignore the piercing stares of his teammates.
2 ★ Playoffs
“Auston, wait up, I’ve got something for you.” JT says as the guys all walk to the parking lot after practice.
Auston grimaces when John hands him the jacket, knowing he did it now so that Mitch would see it.
“Is that a…no way.” Mitch says, grabbing the jacket out of Auston’s grip and holding it out in front of him to examine the back. “Is this for who I think it is?”
“Your mom?” Auston asks immaturely and Mitch glares at him.
“The mom jokes are never funny.” Mitch replies and John shakes his head at them, saying goodbye and getting in his car, leaving Auston there to deal with Mitch on his own.
“She gets a jacket huh? What’s next a key to your apartment?” Mitch asks teasingly and his eyebrows shoot to his hairline when Auston doesn’t reply, simply snatching the jacket back and putting it on the passenger seat of his car.
“Oh my God. She already has a key, doesn’t she? Does she have a drawer?” Mitch asks and Auston sighs knowing Mitch wasn’t going to let him go home until he had the answers he was looking for.
“Yes she has a key. And yes she has a drawer, but it’s not like that! Sometimes she comes over and it’s way too late to drive back to her place, so she stays the night and then she has to go to work the next day and she needs something to wear- You know what it doesn’t matter, you’re just going to make it something it isn’t anyway.” Auston says resigned
“Something it isn’t? She has a WAG jacket and a key and drawer in your apartment. Pretty sure it is what I think it is. Why are you so against it anyway, do you not feel anything for her?” Mitch asks, tone serious. Everyone could see that there was intense chemistry between you and Auston, and Mitch knew him. He wouldn’t give a key to just anyone.
“I don’t have time for a relationship right now and we really are just good friends,” Auston claims, hoping Mitch will drop the subject.
Sensing Auston is done with the conversation, Mitch tries to get one last word in before he leaves.
“So uh, when do I get a drawer and key to your apartment? We're friends…”
3 ★ Mitch's wedding
Mitch was standing next to Matt and despite it being his wedding it felt as if at this very moment all eyes were on the two people on the dance floor. You and Auston. It was almost as if people were in a trance, not able to look away as Auston bends down to whisper something in your ear.
“I’m glad he finally has someone,” Matt says
“Oh they’re not together,” Mitch replies and laughs when Matt’s jaw nearly drops
“There’s no way,” Matt says turning his gaze back to the dance floor just as you rest your head on Auston’s chest and his hands slip dangerously low on your back, resting just above your ass.
Matt doesn’t buy it that there’s nothing going on between you and Auston. Having experienced it himself, he knows what that type of chemistry, intimacy and feelings look like.
“People are staring,” you mumble into Auston’s chest and he looks around the room. He was so caught up on you he didn’t even notice that there was barely anyone else on the dance floor, a lot eyes on the two of you.
“What can I say, we put on a good show,” Auston says and you scoff.
“It’s you they’re looking at,” you reply and Auston shakes his head.
“Trust me baby. No one is looking twice at me when you’re standing next to me in that dress. You look stunning,” he says, and your cheeks flush as his eyes run down from your eyes, to your breasts, down to your legs and all the way back up.
“Aus?” you whisper and the way you look at him nearly knocks the breath right out of his lungs because he knows what you’re about to say.
“I know. You don’t need to say it. I feel the same way,” he says and pulls you closer again, kissing your temple and making eye contact with Mitch and Matt across the room, both of them laughing when Auston discreetly flips them of behind your back.

After you opened up to your older brother about how you've been feeling lonely he insisted you join him on a roadie to get out of your apartment.
You agreed, However you didn't expect to be sat at a bar in L.A beside his teammate and bestfriend.
Mitch had spent the night running between teammates and yourself rambling on and on about anything and everything.
"He can really talk can't he?" Auston laughed as Mitch ran off to the next group to ramble on some more.
"That he can," You joined in laughing, "When we were little he would talk himself to sleep."
"No fucking way," Auston said laughing even harder.
"Now thanks to that fucker, I can't sleep without some kind of noise or someone with me," You said, slightly opening up.
"I don't mean to be nosy or anything but Mitch told me you came with us because you've been lonely?"
"Yeah, My Ex and I broke up six months ago," You sighed looking down at your glass.
"Are you not over him?" He asked.
"No I definitly am, I broke up with him," You said now looking to meet Auston's eyes.
"So then it would be okay for me to ask you on a date, when we get back to Toronto?"
"I think I would like that very much," You smiled, over at the hockey player.

“you wanna have sex with me” w/ Auston and Insecure!Gf reader

Auston Matthews x insecure gf! Reader
Warnings?; SMUT, talk of insecurities, fingering, p in v, unprotected sex(wrap it up plz!), cursing, pet names, ass slapping, I can’t think of any more.
Hope you enjoy and sorry for any errors!
The girl couldn’t help the way she felt as she stared at herself in the mirror, it seemed like no matter what she did nothing looked good.
All she had to do was simply pick an outfit for the date that her boyfriend of a few months had planned for them but her head kept telling her that nothing looked good.
Right as she felt tears about to spill from her eyes she heard a knock sound against her apartment door and she cursed herself as she knew it was Auston arriving to pick her up.
“One second!” She called and quickly slipped on one of his playoff hoodies that laid on a shelf in her closet.
As she pulled open door she was met with the sight of her handsome boyfriend dressed in a well tailored suit, pair of Nikes and his favorite watch sitting on his wrist.
But she watched as his eyes raked over her in concern as he noticed the defeated look on her face and the hoodie she was sporting instead of a dinner outfit.
“Hey, you okay?” He questioned as he stepped into her apartment
But not wanting to admit her insecurities to a man who had dated Model after model before her, she lied through her teeth.
“Yeah just having a hard time putting something together” she smiled with a shrug
And even though he didn’t believe her words he chose to go along with it and offer up help.
“Well you’ve came to the right guy, cmon” he replied and grabbed her hand to pull her back to the closet she’d just came out of.
As he entered he seen a large amount of dresses, skirts, jeans, blouses and sweaters all over the floor. As a man with sisters he had a strong feeling that this pile didn’t end up here because she couldn’t find something but more likely because she felt nothing looked good.
However as a gentleman and after a few to many times getting screamed at when he was younger he knew better than to question it out of her and waited for her to tell him on her own time.
He instead bent down to pick up his favorite dress you owned that matched his suit very well, walked over to grab a pair of shoes to match and grabbed the ‘A’ necklace he’d gotten her a few weeks back before walking up to the girl that had spent the time watching him with admiration and handing everything to her.
“Here you go baby” he smiled
“Thank you” she replied and leaned up to give him a quick peck to his cheek before pushing him into the bedroom so she could change privately.
But as she got everything on she couldn’t help but judge herself in the mirror, picking and prodding at all the things she seen wrong before another knock pulled her out of her trance.
“Baby you ready? We gotta head out soon” Auston Questioned through the door.
“Yeah! Just need you to clip my necklace” she called and waited as she heard the door open and her boyfriend come in.
She watched in the mirror as his eyes ran over her body, stopping to stare at her breast for a moment before they stared at her long legs that he couldn’t wait to have wrapped around him.
“You look gorgeous” he complimented as he finally took the necklace from her hand and placed it on her neck.
Her breath hitched as she felt his hands on her neck and how they rested there for a moment even after the necklace had been clasped.
“God I can’t wait to fuck you” she heard him whisper so quietly that she was sure he didn’t mean to say it.
However she was still shocked, they had been together six months and had never gotten past more than simple handjobs and fingering. Mostly due to her being scared of him seeing her naked body and her insecurities always getting into her head when she felt ready.
“You wanna have sex with me?” She couldn’t help but question
Auston was confused at her question until he realized he must’ve said his thoughts aloud and a bright blush took over his cheeks.
“I-uh” he stuttered with an embarrassed smile before he let out a cough and began again
“Yes” he blurted before continuing, “But your not ready and that’s okay I don’t want you to feel pressured in anyway”
“But..why?” She questioned and Auston became even more confused
What did she mean why? Because every time he sees her his cock gets hard, watching her make them dinner turned him on for fucks sake, she was unbelievably beautiful.
“I…uh I wanna have sex with you because anytime I’m around you I get a boner like I’m a teenage kid. Because you have the most beautiful body I’ve ever seen, these beautiful thighs that you don’t show off enough, these long legs that I want wrapped around me as I fuck you, this plump ass, these beautiful girls you have up here” he told her as he got close and ran his hands over every spot he had brought up.
She couldn’t help the way her thighs clenched at the feeling of his hands traveling along her body and the way his admittance turned her on.
“Let me show you how much I want you baby” he mumbled into her neck as he placed kisses on her neck
“But what about our reservations?” She questioned
“Fuck dinner, I’ll take you out another nigh”
Part of her was scared but the other part was sick and tired of pushing Auston away and not getting what she deserved.
“Okay..” she spoke quietly
“Okay? Gonna let me take care of you?”
“Mhm” she whined as he started to bunch up the skirt of her dress.
He finally pulled his head out of her neck and looked down to get a view of her pretty ass covered in a Toronto Blue thong.
“Your so fucking beautiful” he groaned as he placed a small slap to her ass.
“Take me to bed Auston, please” she pleaded as she met his eyes in the mirror.
He smirked at her before he turned her around to face him and dipped down to throw her over his shoulder.
“Auston!” She squealed but a giggle broke through as he threw her down onto her queen sized bed.
She leaned up on her elbows as he stepped back and began to remove his suit jacket along with both of their shoes.
“May I take this off?” He asked as he ran a hand along the hem of her dress
“Yes”
He smiled at her before having her sit back up and allow him to get the dress off, as he did he came face to face with a bra that matched the thong she sported.
“You damn tease” he shook his head with a smile and began to climb back over the girl.
He felt her tense up under him and listened as she released a deep breath in attempt to calm her nerves.
“You know you can tell me to stop whenever you want right? And we don’t have to do this if you don’t want to” he spoke
“I know and I’m ready I promise, just nervous” she sheepishly smiled at him
“Okay” he smiled back and began to tease her body with kisses
He started by giving her a kiss on the head before he trailed them down her face, kissing her nose, cheeks, and then pecking her lips.
He spent some time on her neck and chest, kissing and sucking all over making sure to leave marks of possession all over.
Her hands shot to his hair when he reached her stomach, one of her biggest insecurities. But when Auston looked up and locked eyes with her she knew she didn’t need to worry anymore especially when she started praising her.
“God you’re truly the most beautiful thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on”
“Austonn..” she whined at him causing him to nip her stomach in response
“Let me compliment you” he laughed and moved further down the girls body
He left a kiss along the band of her blue thong and lead down her thighs, her breath hitched in her throat at the feeling of him being so close to her core.
“I can’t wait to feel these tights wrapped around my head while I’m buried between them” he groaned
He smirked at the pitiful whine that escaped from the girls throat knowing she had the image pop into her own mind.
He stood back onto his feet and pulled her legs up while kissing down them, enjoying the view he had of her legs thrown over his shoulders.
“Auston as much as I’m enjoying this I really need you to touch me” she whined while holding his eyes
“Yeah? Where do you want me to touch you baby?”
“Want you to touch my pussy Aus” she blushed, typically not this bold
He smirked at her while he let her legs go and motioned for her to scoot up the bed and completely undressed himself.
She clenched her thighs at the sight of his tattoos, it didn’t matter how many times she’d seen them they always did something to her.
She spread her thighs wide for Auston as he began to crawl towards her on the bed. As he reached her he pulled her panties down to reveal how wet she was.
“All that for me?” He teased
All he got in reply was a nod as the air had gotten taken from the girls lungs when he ran his fingers through her sopping folds.
“Got such a pretty pussy baby” he smirked at the girl as he began to circle her clit
Her breath was stuck in her throat as she watched Auston finger her, while it wasn’t the first time this time was much more intense and intimate and her head was spinning a mile a minute.
“Auston!” She cried as he finally slipped a finger into her warm hole
He groaned feeling her clench around a single finger and anticipation continued to build as he couldn’t wait to get his cock inside her
He watched her intently as he slipped in another finger, he was having a hard time controlling himself at the sight of her head thrown back and chest heaving.
“I’m gonna Cum Aus” she cried feeling the burning in her stomach getting stronger
“Cum for me then, cum on my fingers baby” he coached and let his own groan slip out at the loud cry she let out and how beautiful she looked going through an orgasm.
He continued moving his fingers inside her helping her through her high before she was grabbing his wrist to stop him due to the overstimulation.
He laughed lightly before he pulled his fingers out and pushed them into her mouth, making her suck them clean.
One she did as he wanted he quickly gripped her throat and pulled her in for a sloppy kiss, groaning at the taste of her juices on her tongue.
When they finally pulled away Auston quickly flipped her over into a face down position before he laid a hard slap to her ass.
“Gonna fuck this pretty ass into next week baby” he groaned as he began to run his pre-cum covered tip through her folds before slowly sliding inside her tight core.
He threw his head back at the feeling of her tightly hugging him, “god your so tight” he moaned
He gave her a moment to get used to his length before he started to pick up a pace. He started off slow to allow her to get used to the feeling of him but he couldn’t hold himself back much longer.
“Shit Auston” she cried at the feeling of his thick cock filling her core to the brim
“Not my name” he warned as he laid a hard slap to her ass
“Sorry Papi” she apologized in a whine
“Good girl” he praised the girl before he slightly shifted them and began a fast pace
She felt the air get pulled from her throat at the unexpected new pace but the way his cock was hitting her cervix didn’t leave much time for much thought about it.
“Papi” she cried into the pillow her face was pressed against
“Your body was made for me baby” he moaned as he felt her clench him even tighter then she already was.
“I’m getting close again” she cried as her second orgasm of the evening was already approaching quickly
“Already? My cock fucking you that good princess ?”
“Mhm, so good papi” she mumbled, the only thoughts in her mind were the way Auston felt inside her and how close she was
Auston couldn’t help but laugh at her cock drunken state, she was absolutely ruined beneath him and he was loving it.
“Can feel you clenching me tighter, cum for me” he demanded as he quickly sped up his pace even faster.
All it took was one more harsh thrust and he was pushing her over the edge with a loud cry escaping the girl.
“Auston!” She cried feeling the knot in her stomach snap and her world go black for a short second.
“Did I just squirt?” She shyly asked
“Fuck yeah you did” Auston replied and she could hear the smirk in his voice
But it wasn’t long that her boyfriend was following behind her and she felt him quickly pull out and shoot his warm cum all over her ass and back.
“Holy shit” he groaned as he slowly got up to go grab a warm wash cloth to clean the two of you up along with a towel.
“Come on baby let me clean you” he spoke from behind you causing you to roll over and look up at him.
There was no doubt that the makeup you had applied for dinner was now all over your face and you looked like a raccoon.
“Hi” he smiled when he finally seen your face again
“Hi” you giggled back
He quickly cleaned you up before grabbing the both of you a change of clothes and carried you out to cuddle on the couch.
A few minutes into the movie he had put on you finally spoke up about the evening and even the past few months.
“Hey Aus?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you”
“For what?” He questioned a little confused
“For helping me these past few months, you may not have noticed but I’ve always been a little insecure and you’ve helped me a bunch. That’s why I looked so upset when you got here tonight and why I’ve been scared to have sex” she admitted.
“Thank you for opening up to me sweetheart, I’m glad I’ve been able to help you because you’re truly my favorite and most beautiful person on this planet and I love you” he smiled
“I love you too” she beamed back and him pulled into a small kiss

Never in a million years could you have imagined that your life would take this turn. You were just a young student, living your life in Toronto and doing the best you could.
Until you crossed paths with none other than the young hockey player Auston Matthews.
Even since Auston moved to Toronto, your lives seemed to intertwine effortlessly. From the moment you met as he wandered rather confusedly around the city, there was an immediate connection that grew into a deep and unbreakable friendship. After you’d guided him to his destination, he quickly became your confidante, your partner in crime, and dare you say it, your best friend.
It goes without saying that your friendship with Auston was a unique mix of laughter and companionship - from playful jokes to cosy movie nights, there was never a dull moment when the two of you were together. Whether teasing each other about your quirks or engaging in deep conversations about life, your bond only strengthened with each passing day.
Despite the teasing and antics, there was a profound level of support and understanding between you. You were there for Auston during the highs and lows of his career, cheering him on from the side lines and offering a shoulder to lean on when the pressure became too much. Similarly, he was always there for you, providing words of encouragement during exams as you transitioned into adulthood, and a comforting presence whenever you needed it most.
But amidst the laughter and camaraderie, there was an underlying tension that lingered beneath the surface. Your inside jokes and rather sexual sense of humour often led people to misinterpret your relationship as something more than just friendship. It wasn't uncommon for strangers to assume that you and Auston were a couple, fuelled by the chemistry and closeness that you shared.
However, despite the whispers and speculation from outsiders, the two of you never let it affect your friendship. You knew the true depth of your connection, and it went far beyond any sexual tension or societal expectations. You were content with the bond you shared, secure in the knowledge that your friendship was built on a foundation of trust, loyalty, and genuine affection.
And as you navigated through life together, hand in hand, you couldn't help but feel grateful for Auston Matthews' presence in your life. He wasn't just your friend; he was your rock and confidant. And regardless of what the future held, you knew that your friendship would always remain steadfast and unwavering.
**
That until Auston's hockey career skyrocketed, along with his fame and popularity. Suddenly, he was thrust into the spotlight, receiving constant media attention and adoration from fans cheering him on in the crowd. And while you genuinely celebrated his success, there was a part of you that couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness as the dynamics of your friendship seemed to be shifting.
With Auston's busy schedule and newfound celebrity status, it became increasingly difficult to spend as much time together as before. He was constantly surrounded by teammates, coaches, and fans, leaving little opportunity for the quiet moments of companionship you once cherished.
Initially, you tried to be understanding, giving Auston the time and space he needed to adjust to his life as a hockey star. You encouraged him to embrace his success and seize every opportunity that came his way. But deep down, there was a pang of longing in your heart for the closeness and connection you once shared.
And as days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months, you found yourself missing your best friend more than you thought possible. The frequent hangouts and late-night conversations became rare, replaced by fleeting moments of interaction amidst his hectic schedule.
Furthermore, amidst the challenges of your evolving friendship, you couldn't shake the feeling that there might actually have been some truth to what people had observed – maybe, just maybe there’d been something more between you and Auston. The way your heart skipped a beat whenever he smiled at you, or the pang of jealousy you felt when you saw him surrounded by other girls – it was becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the growing desires bubbling beneath the surface.
However, you were convinced that Auston saw you only as a friend, and nothing more. After all, he had his pick of admirers, with countless fans vying for his attention both on and off the ice. And you couldn't compete with that, nor did you want to jeopardise the precious friendship you had built over the years.
So, with a heavy heart, you began to slowly distance yourself from Auston's hectic life. You found yourself making excuses to decline invitations to events and gatherings, preferring instead to create some distance from the pain of unrequited feelings. It was a bittersweet decision, but you were determined to protect your heart, even if it meant sacrificing the closeness you once shared with Auston.
**
And as months passed, you found yourself gradually drifting away from Auston's inner circle, seeking comfort in the company of new friends and acquaintances. Meanwhile, Auston, completely unaware of the changing dynamic, continued to navigate his busy life as a hockey star.
However, it wasn't until one particular evening out with friends that his obliviousness was brought to a sudden halt. While you were engrossed in conversation with someone from outside the hockey world, Auston spotted you from across the room and felt compelled to join you.
Though it seemed out of character, he made his way through the crowd, catching your eye and subtly pushing into the conversation.
You were surprised by his sudden presence but greeted him warmly, introducing your old friend to the new one. However, amidst the introductions, Auston's grip on your waist was notably firm.
"What's going on, Auston?" you questioned, your voice betraying a hint of confusion and slight irritation at his unexpected actions. You were taken aback by his intrusion and wondered what had prompted him to intervene in your conversation.
And caught off guard by your puzzled reaction, Auston hesitated for a moment before offering a sheepish smile. "Sorry, I just... wanted to talk to you," he replied, his tone apologetic yet tinged with uncertainty.
Though you were a bit confused by Auston's actions, you chose not to make a fuss, brushing off his behaviour as a momentary lapse in judgment. After all, you knew Auston well enough to understand that he sometimes acted impulsively without fully considering the consequences.
So, you reassured him that everything was fine, and both of you simply returned to your separate company for the night. Yet, later, as the evening wore on, Auston sought you out once more when you were alone and attempted to articulate some of the thoughts that had been swirling in his mind.
"y/n, I'm sorry for earlier. I just really miss you and... maybe we could hang out sometime soon?"
Your eyes met in a tender gaze, and you couldn’t help but form a slightly curved smile.
"I've missed you too, Aus."
In that very moment, Auston realised he couldn't let you drift away any further. He needed you in his life. And so, he made a deliberate effort to pull you back into his circle, to reignite the connection that had once meant everything to him.
And you welcomed his efforts warmly, grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with the person who had always been your anchor. Yet, as you fell back into your familiar rhythm of banter and inside jokes, you couldn't shake the feeling of a subtle shift in the atmosphere – a tension that crackled between you, charged with unspoken longing. Almost as if he was flirting with you.
But was Auston truly interested in you, or was he simply caught up in the moment, relishing the familiarity of your friendship? It was a question that plagued your thoughts, keeping you up at night as you grappled with your own feelings for him.
And to add to the turmoil, as the days turned into weeks, you once again found yourself surrounded by the hockey crowd, Auston reverted back to his usual friendly demeanour, as if nothing had happened. It was as if the moment of intervention had never occurred, leaving you questioning the true nature of his feelings.
Despite the confusion and uncertainty swirling in your mind, you tried to push aside your doubts and focus on enjoying the company of your friends. But deep down, a part of you couldn't shake the lingering feeling that there was more to Auston's actions than met the eye.
**
And to say the least, Auston's mixed signals were beginning to wear on your patience. One moment, he would pull you into a warm embrace, his affectionate gestures leaving you breathless with hope. But the next moment, he would keep his distance, treating you with nothing more than friendly camaraderie. It was enough to drive you crazy, leaving you unsure of where you stood in his eyes.
Then, on a sunny winter afternoon, as the hockey players gathered for a skate at the rink, inviting their families and friends to join, the tension between you and Auston lingered in the air. Yet you tried your best to brush off his unpredictable behaviour, focusing instead on enjoying the day with friends.
But amidst laughter and cheers, perhaps fuelled by a little too much confidence on your part, a small disaster struck as you suddenly stumbled and twisted your ankle on the ice. Pain shot through your leg, and you winced as you struggled to get back on your feet. Fortunately, Auston was there in an instant, concern etched on his face as he offered you his support.
"Hey, are you okay?" his voice filled with concern.
"Yeah, I'm alright..." you tried to reassure him, stubbornly refusing his help as you insisted that you could manage on your own. But then, as you attempted to stand again, the pain intensified, and you realised you couldn't put weight on your injured ankle. "Okay, maybe I'm not alright," you finally admitted, allowing Auston to assist you.
"Let me take you home."
And with his arm securely wrapped around your waist, Auston guided you off the ice and back to his car. He drove you home in silence, yet his presence was a comforting reassurance amidst the throbbing ache in your ankle.
Once you were back at your place, Auston wasted no time in pampering you with snacks and an ice pack for your injury. He hovered nearby, fussing over you with a mixture of concern and care that melted your heart.
And as the afternoon slowly turned into evening, the two of you fell into the familiar rhythm of your deep friendship, sharing stories and laughter as you whiled away the hours together. It almost felt like old times, and for a fleeting moment, you allowed yourself to forget about the confusing signals Auston had been sending.
But just as Auston was about to head home, you once again felt a twinge in your heart that signalled your deepest desire to keep him near, and an unintentional small whimper escaped your lips.
"Aus, I want you to stay…"
Without any hesitation, Auston simply nodded and remained with you. And as he sat on the sofa, your legs crossed over his lap and his hand carefully resting on your ankle, his thumb gently caressing your skin, you made a decision to confront the elephant in the room. You simply couldn't continue to ignore the feelings stirring within your heart, and you needed to know where you stood with him once and for all.
"Auston... can I ask you something?"
“Of course.”
“What are we?”
Auston's brows furrowed in confusion as he processed your question. It was a question he hadn't quite expected, yet deep down, he also knew it was one that needed to be addressed.
"What do you mean?" he asked, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
You took a deep breath, gathering your thoughts before speaking again. "I mean... I don't understand your mixed signals, so I guess what I’m trying to ask is… are we just friends or are we more?" you explained, your words hanging heavy in the air. "Because I've never felt this way about anyone before."
Auston's gaze softened as he listened to your heartfelt confession, realising that he had been wrestling with the same question, uncertain of how to navigate the complicated emotions swirling between you two.
"I... I don't know," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "But what I do know is that you mean a lot to me, Y/N. More than I can put into words."
There was a vulnerability in his eyes that took you by surprise, a raw honesty that laid bare the depths of his feelings. And in that moment, you realised that perhaps you weren't alone in this confusing journey of emotions after all.
"I feel the same way, Aus," you confessed, your voice soft but resolute. "And maybe we don't have all the answers right now, but I'm willing to figure it out together – if you are too?”
“I am.”
With those words hanging between you, a sense of hope washed over you both. The road ahead might be uncertain, but with each other by your side, you knew that anything was possible.
And in that tender and sweet moment of vulnerability, where the air crackled with unspoken emotions, Auston made a decision. With newfound resolve, he closed the gap between you, bridging the distance that had kept you tethered to the realm of friendship and propelling you into the unknown territory of potential lovers.
With gentle hands cupping your face, Auston's lips met yours in a soft and hesitant kiss. It was a moment charged with anticipation and longing, a silent declaration of the feelings that had been simmering beneath the surface for far too long.
As your lips melded together in a tender embrace, time seemed to stand still. The world faded away, leaving only the two of you locked in a moment of pure intimacy and connection.
You let each other taste the new sweetest of one another. Your mouths exploring and tongues intertwining, mixing warmth and saliva, as air was stolen from your lungs.
And in that fleeting moment, as the weight of uncertainty melted away, you knew that there was no turning back. You had crossed the line from friends to something more, and the journey ahead was filled with endless possibilities.
As you pulled away from the kiss, breathless and exhilarated, you found yourself lost in Auston's gaze. There was a newfound depth to his eyes, a silent promise of the love and devotion that lay ahead. And with a smile tugging at the corners of your lips, you reached out to intertwine your fingers with his, silently acknowledging the unspoken bond that now connected you both.

Neck Kisses - Auston Matthews x f!reader

As Auston entered his apartment, he let out a deep sigh of relief. The high from the game still coursed through his veins. The win combined with his hat trick was putting him in a rather great mood and he wanted nothing more than to step into his apartment and fall into bed for some much needed relaxation with his favourite girl.
The second you hear the apartment door unlock, you squeal and jump up off of the couch and throw your arms around your boyfriend, nearly knocking him down. "Baby you were amazing tonight!" you exclaim, causing him to chuckle softly, his hands falling to hold your waist.
His eyes sparkled with joy as he stared down at you, a grin appearing on his face. The way you adorned one of his jerseys and looked up at him with so much love truly made him feel like the luckiest man in the world. The compliment made his heart flutter, despite the fact that he should’ve been used to it by now. “Thank you beautiful," he hummed modestly, his cheeks turning the slightest shade of pink before he dipped his head down to give your lips a peck. “You have no idea how much I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” you smile, tracing your finger along the edge of his jaw. “Had I known you were gonna get a hat trick I would've told my boss to fuck off and ask her to leave early to watch the game in person,” you sighed.
Auston brought his hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. “You can always quit you know? You don’t need to work.”
You hum, taking a step closer, your body now pressed against his. “I appreciate the offer but you know I can’t,” you mumble, before you leaned up, planting a gentle kiss on his neck, his skin warm against your lips.
Auston's breath hitched and he shivered at the sensation of your lips on his neck, his heartbeat quickening. "You're distracting me from my convincing speech, you know?" he murmured, tilting his head to give you better access.
You chuckled softly, your lips leaving a trail of feathery kisses along his jawline. "That's the idea," you replied, your voice filled with playful seduction. "But I'll think about it...because I really hate this job."
Auston's hands tightened their grip on your waist, pulling you even closer at your answer. His lips found yours, initiating a passionate and deep kiss. The taste of victory mingled with the sweetness of your affection had his head spinning.
The world outside seemed to fade away as you both lost yourselves in the moment. Your kisses grew more urgent and so did your desire for one another.
Breaking the kiss, Auston leaned his forehead against yours, his breathing ragged. "You drive me crazy, you know that?" he confessed, his voice husky.
You smiled, your eyes filled with love. "Well, maybe I enjoy driving you crazy," you teased, your fingers gently brushing against his cheek.
Auston's lips curled into a playful smirk. "Well, lucky for you, I enjoy being driven crazy by you."
With that, he lifted you effortlessly into his arms, carrying you towards the bedroom.
As Auston carried you towards the bedroom, a hunger burned within you. You wanted to explore every inch of his body. Your lips began to leave a trail of gentle kisses along his neck, savouring the taste and feel of his skin beneath your touch.
Auston's grip tightened around you, his breathing growing more ragged with each kiss.
Reaching the bedroom, Auston gently laid you down on the bed, his eyes now dark with love and lust. He moved to hover above you, his lips capturing yours once more. You couldn't resist your hands roaming his body, the feel of his heart beat strong against the palm of your hand.
Breaking the kiss, Auston leaned back, his eyes locking with yours. His neck was exposed, an invitation you couldn't resist. You took the opportunity to switch positions, with him now laying with his back against the soft bed and you straddling his waist before your head dipped down and your lips attached to his neck once again.
Auston let out a low groan, his hands tangling in your hair.
Your kisses grew bolder, leaving a trail of soft, lingering marks along his neck. Each touch elicited a gasp or a moan from Auston, his body pressing closer into you.
His fingers danced along your hips, sending shivers down your own body. "Fuck Y/N. Need you."
You lifted your head and met his gaze with a giggle, his reactions to you kissing his neck driving you even more wild if possible. "Let me do my thing. Treat you well for how good you played," you whispered, your breath hot against his skin.
Auston simply nodded, his eyes clouded with desire. "Please," he breathed, his voice barely audible.
You returned to his neck, placing gentle kisses and teasing nips, slowly working your way towards his collarbone. Every touch fuelled the fire between you, heightening the intensity of the moment.
"You know...there's other parts of my body that haven't been kissed yet," he mumbled lowly, shifting his hips beneath you to get his point across.
You smirk, lifting your head up and shrugging. "Your neck was just very inviting," you laughed, your thumb gently swiping over one of the hickies you'd given him. "Wanted to take my time with you."
"Well I'm impatient when it comes to you," he hummed, flipping the two of you over so that he was on top once more and grinning. "Gonna have to move quicker than that."

PLEASE can we get more of Auston in the hospital after being forced out of Carson’s room? 😩 literally anything
omg omg ok so instead of posting screenshots below is a direct copy and paste from my docs hehehe. It's also almost 2k words so not short hahaha enjoy! pls let me know what you think! (maybe I'll get some inspo to finally update AFTR)
Auston was hunched over in the waiting room chair with his hands stressfully gripping his hair as he stared at the grey tile flooring, still processing what he was told about what was happening with Carson. It’d only been 10 minutes since he’d been forced out of the hospital room and only five since Carson’s doula and a nurse got him up to speed, but it felt like a lifetime of hell.
What was he supposed to do? He’d never felt so useless in his life than he did just sitting there waiting to hear if Carson was going to make it. If the blood transfusion was successful and if they did it in time. Auston couldn’t even think about the chance they were too late.
With a deep breath, he sat up then leaned back into the rundown recliner he sat in, still staring at the floor. The room he was in was quiet, instead of a usual waiting room, this one was smaller as it was meant only for family members of patients in the hospital. He was thankful to be the only person in there as he processed everything, but also felt so incredibly alone.
“What am I going to do?” Auston whispered to himself, sighing as he let himself wallow in self-pity for another moment before his phone buzzed in his pocket. It made him jump slightly, seeing as with everything that just happened he hadn’t even thought to check his phone, but since he was stuck waiting, he figured he should.
Auston unlocked his phone to see that it was his mom who texted him saying “Niñita was missing you and Carson, but she’s pretty content watching Bluey with the next best thing.” The message itself was enough for Auston to let himself relax. He knew it was about Mia seeing as the message contained the nickname that only his mom called her and that was enough to ground him a bit. However, for the first time in what felt like forever, even though it’d only actually been just over 10 minutes, Auston smiled when his phone buzzed again as it received a picture.
In the photo, Mia was cuddled up right against Auston’s dad as they sat on the couch together. Her curls were messy where she leaned against her Pa while she had her arm wrapped against Whaley, who was of course part of their cuddle session. It was so simple. A sight Auston had seen many times before because Mia loved cuddling with her grandparents, but at that moment, seeing such a thing gave him a sense of normalcy. And Auston needed that.
The next thing Auston knew, he was reaching the top of his phone screen with his thumb, pressing his mom's contact so that the option to call her would appear. Once it did, Auston pressed the call button and took a breath. Ema answered almost instantly.
“Is he here?” Ema asked, excitement lacing her voice regarding her new grandchild being born and suddenly Auston’s chest felt heavy again.
“He’s here,” Auston spoke softly. “He’s perfect.”
“Oh, Auston, I’m so proud of you. We can’t wait to come meet him. How are you? How’s Carson?”
Auston took a shaky breath.
“Um, not good, Mom,” his voice cracked as he choked on his words. “Really bad, actually.”
“What do you mean?” Ema questioned, sounding so concerned. “Is Carson ok?”
“No, she, uh, she had a postpartum hemorrhage shortly after Carter was born. She went into shock and was losing a lot of blood so they’re currently doing an emergency blood transfusion but they have no way of knowing if they were too late or if it will be enough. I- I don’t know what to do, Mom. I feel so useless right now, she just has to be ok. I just- I need her. I can’t do this without her.”
Auston was sobbing by that point and could hear how Ema gasped on the other end of the phone. But despite that shock, Auston was sure she felt, it didn’t take long for Ema to respond.
“Hang tight, ok? Me and your dad will be there soon.”
“No, Mom, I don’t think Mia should be here,” Auston explained while sniffling and wiping away his tears. “Not right now while all this is happening. It’d be too much for her. I need her to stay with you guys.”
“Auston, we can’t just let you be alone right now,” Ema tried to reason. “I know your sisters will be fine to watch Mia if you want her to stay home. But I’m not letting you go through this kind of thing by yourself.”
Auston sighed, knowing he could use the support of his parents to lean on.
“Can I talk to her, please?”
“Mia? Of course, one second. I’ll put it on FaceTime so she can see you.”
“Ok,” Auston smiled because he wanted nothing more than to see his little girl. Quickly, he wiped away any stray tears and tried to hide the fact that he’d been crying before he was met with the beep of the phone call ending followed by the buzz of the incoming FaceTime. When he answered, the camera was right on Mia, still cuddled up next to her grandpa and focused on the TV, not realizing who was on the phone. Suddenly, everything felt lighter and less intense for Auston. “Hi, baby girl.”
Mia’s eyes lit right up at the sound of Auston’s voice and was quick to look at the phone and smile when she saw him on the screen.
“Daddy!” Mia greeted excitedly, then let out a yawn. It was nearing her bedtime after all.
“Are you watching your show with Pa?”
“Yeahhhhh.”
“What show?” Auston asked, already knowing the answer, but it didn’t matter.
“Bwuey,” Mia stated as a matter of fact. Despite struggling to pronounce L’s and R’s, Mia always tried her best to say them. It made Auston smile even more.
“Your favourite.”
Mia hummed and nodded in response then looked down and started fiddling with one of Whaley’s fins. “I see Mommy?”
Auston’s heart dropped.
“Mommy can’t come to the phone, baby,” Auston explained, earning himself a questionable glance from his daughter. “She’s, uhm, she’s with the doctor right now.”
“Mommy ‘kay? Comin’ home?”
Auston took a breath to try to keep himself level-headed and heard Ema ready to intervene if needed from where she was holding her phone off camera. But Auston didn’t want Mia upset over anything, so he wanted to handle this.
“She’s going to be okay,” he assured, mainly to convince himself that what he said was true. “Me and Mommy are going to be home real soon, mini. I promise.”
Mia blinked, unconvinced, and her expression showed concern as she furrowed her eyebrows and formed a pout on her lips. “Why sad, dada?”
It wasn’t until then Auston realized he was crying again and how it was worrying Mia. He was quick to wipe the tears away again.
“I’m just having a tough day, sweetheart,” Auston told her honestly and let out another breath. “And I miss you a whole lot. Daddy may be sad, but you make me feel better. I love you so, so much, Mia. And I know your Mommy does too. Don’t you worry about me, ok? But, Daddy has to go, baby. I’ll call you tomorrow but for now, you finish watching Bluey and then I think it’s bedtime. I love you.”
“Love yew, dada.”
After Mia and Auston both blew each other kisses goodbye, Auston could hear his mom asking Alex to sit with Mia while she and his dad talked to Auston privately. He stayed silent while, assumedly, Ema picked up the phone and made her way to the kitchen while still on FaceTime. A moment later, Auston could tell the phone was propped up against something because he was looking at both of his parents while his dad glanced between him and Ema confused.
“What am I missing? Did something happen to Carson?” Brian asked, noticeably trying to keep his voice low so that Mia wouldn’t hear. “And the baby. What is going on?”
Ema then looked at Auston, silently asking him if he wanted to tell his dad or if he wanted her to. Auston didn’t have it in him to go over it all again, he could already feel the tears welling yet again. So, he nodded and Ema knew what that meant. She then told Brian everything Auston had told her.
“Oh, my god,” Brian said once Ema was finished and shook his head in disbelief. “Auston, I’m so sorry. And you haven’t heard anything about Carson’s status?”
“No, it-it hasn’t been that long since it all happened,” Auston explained. “The nurse I was talking to before I came in here said no one will know for at least a couple of hours. It all depends on that blood transfusion if Carson’s body takes it well and if they weren’t too late doing it. Fuck what about her family? I gotta tell them what’s happening. I need to call her dad.”
“I can call Joel, Auston,” Brian replied. “Don’t put too much on yourself right now. This isn’t an easy situation to be in, no one expects you to handle it perfectly. You’re just trying to navigate it all.”
“Thanks, Dad, but, he’s my father-in-law. I think he should hear it from me and that’s ok. I know he, Nate and Mya are going to try to get here as quickly as possible once they know. And Mitch. God, how am I going to tell Mitch?”
Auston inhaled deeply as a way to keep the inevitable feeling of his chest getting heavy again at bay, but it was useless. This was one of the worst things he’d ever experienced.
“We can figure out how to approach this all together,” Ema spoke up. “But, Auston, as your dad said, don’t put too much on yourself. This is a traumatic thing and you need to take care of yourself. Either your dad or I will be there soon, ok? The other will stay here with Mia for the time being and we can rotate. But, Mijo, where’s the baby? You should be with him. Both of you need each other in a time like this.”
“Carter,” Auston responded softly. “We named him Carter. You’re right, though. I want to go find him. With everything that happened to Carson, they wanted to make sure he was ok and wasn’t affected during birth. I’ve just been such a mess since I didn’t even realize I hadn’t gotten an update on Carter or told where he is. I need to see my son.”
“Yes, go find Carter,” Ema said. It was obvious she was feeling a lot of emotions too but was keeping it together for Auston’s sake. “He needs you.”
“And one of us will be there soon,” Brian stated. “Once Mia is asleep, we both will be. We’re not letting you be alone.”
“I love you guys,” Auston told them. “Thank you, for everything. I’m going to go find Carter. Let me know when you’re here, please.”
“Of course.”
After saying goodbye, Auston hung up his phone and sat in silence for a moment just to calm himself down. Then, once he recollected himself a bit, he got out of the chair and exited the family room so he could go find Carter.

Today was the day Auston was meeting your family. It happened to be your mum’s birthday and she was having a family dinner. Auston had already met her and your half siblings, but he was yet to meet your aunt and nana.  The pair had travelled to come visit for her birthday. Something you weren’t looking forward to. Well not your grandmother because you love her. Just your aunt.
She was known in your family for favouring your oldest sister. Everyone knew it; all your siblings, your mother, your nana. Even your closest friends. Your sister was the daughter she never had yet you couldn’t make her proud… Despite being a world champion in your own sport. She on the other hand was an academic turned personal trainer. She is married now with a kid, your niece Chloe. One that your aunt adored as well.
You and Auston pulled up to your childhood home in the outskirts of Toronto. It was a quiet area that you enjoyed growing up in. By the amount of cars in the yard, you two were the last to arrive. Auston grabbed out your container of homemade brownies plus the birthday present before the pair of you made your way inside.
“Mum!”
A variety of footsteps were heard. Included the pitter patter of your niece. The 4 year old rounded the corner, running straight at the two of you. “Uncle Auston!”
The man besides you laughs as he lifts up Chloe into his arms. She was quick to wrap her arms around him, starting to tell him about her first few weeks at school. Your mum hugged you first while Auston was busy with your niece.
“Happy birthday Mum.”
“Thank you baby,” Mum smiled, “I’m glad you and Aus could make it. I’ve missed you both.”
Auston passed Chloe to you before getting a hug from your mum as well. They had been close over the years of your relationship with the hockey player. He loved being close to your family, coming over for dinner whenever the pair of you could. When his schedule allows it that is.
“Happy birthday,” Auston grins, handing her her birthday present. The pair of you had gotten her a bottle of her favourite perfume bottle and some other bath products. Oh and a voucher for a day at her favourite spa. “I’m looking forward to the pizza for dinner.”
“Well now you two are here we can get started on making them.”
Everyone gathered in the kitchen, around the dining table where the pizza making station had been set up. Both you and Auston greet your siblings and the couple partners. Then your nana walked in. She was your typical grandmother, short, grey hair with a warm smile. One that was always a welcomed sight.
“Hello sweetheart,” Nana smiled. You had to lean down to hug the woman. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been good thanks. Nan, this is my boyfriend, Auston. Aus, this is my Nan, Sue.”
Nana brought Auston straight in for a hug. “It’s lovely to meet the boy who treats my little girl like a princess.”
Then came your aunt. She stood beside your mum. Just like every other time, she didn’t hug you, no smile. “Hey darl.”
“Hey, this is my boyfriend, Auston.”
She nodded in return. One you got a lot. And one that Auston knew pisses you off. After years of treatment, you were used to it but it still made you mad. Your Aunt’s eyes looked you up and down. The judgy look all too familiar. Her eyes in particular came to stop at your prominent scar running down your abdomen. It was one you were proud of as well. Auston spotted this and was quick to pull you in, hand resting on the scar. He had worked hard to get you to finally think it wasn’t ugly. He wasn’t going to let a judgy family member make you think otherwise.
Without so much as another word, the rest of your family started talking again. Making the pizzas was easy. Auston and yourself agreed on a simple pepperoni pizza. You snuck to the garage to grab yourself and Auston a drink. Well you shotgunned one before grabbing two cans and heading back to the kitchen.
Whilst waiting on them to cook, everyone sat around the table on the patio. Your Aunt sat beside your eldest sister. Asking her about her life and everything in between. You watched on as no-one asked you about your life.
“How’s training been?” Nan asked you. Someone finally deciding paying your attention.
You explained what’s been going on recently with your sport. Talking about your up and coming competitions. Everyone else was listening but your Aunt. Auston noticed this. Watching how while you talked passionately and excitedly about your passion, your Aunt just scrolled through her phone. He knew this was also the first time in a year that she had seen you.
Mid sentence she cut you off, directing the attention of everyone to your sister. Auston saw you deflate. Your confidence that he loved is gone before his eyes. He slipped his hand through yours, leaning over to press a kiss to your temple. You leaned into him for comfort.
“I’ll help you mum,” You spoke up when your mum went to pull out the pizzas.
Auston watched you go back into the kitchen with both your mother and nana. Leaving him with your siblings and your aunt.
“She’s put on weight, yeah?” Your aunt pointed out, looking at the woman beside her.
Your sister hadn’t ever seen how you were treated. Or never realised. Sure, you had spoken about how she was the favourite. But never had she heard your aunt so blatantly speak like that about you.
“She’s been working hard during her training,” Auston replied.
Your aunt shrugged, “She’s always been fat.”
He couldn’t believe it. Someone who definitely was classed as obese had the audacity to make a comment about his active, healthy girlfriend.
“Aunty…”
“I’m just looking out for her,” Your aunt dismisses. “How is she supposed to keep her superstar boyfriend if she can’t look after herself?”
A pizza was slammed down on the table in front of her making her jump. To Auston’s horror, you had heard her comment. Something that he knew would trigger you. Especially after the issue of all the fan comments you had to contend with mentally. All the hate comments.
“I just can’t please you, can I?”
“Oh please, stop complaining.”
Your mum had come out of the kitchen to the sight of you seething off to the side of your aunt. Auston was on the edge of his seat. Everyone else around the table looked uncomfortable.
“You okay?” Your mum asked you.
You shook your head, “I’m sick of being the disappointment.”
Without so much as another word, you sniffled and left. Probably to go hide in your old bedroom. Everyone just watched you leave the patio. Auston stood up to follow. Not before turning to your aunt.
“She’s known she wasn’t the favourite since she was 15. But she still never spoke badly about you. And yet you can’t be nice to save your life.” He looked around at your siblings, all sitting quietly. He knew that you and your oldest sister were the only one blood related to your aunt. Your other siblings were through your sister’s dad’s side. “She puts up with you because of your family and is told to respect her elders. But I won’t let you talk about her like that.”
Auston left everyone outside and followed in your footsteps. He could hear your sniffles from down the hallway. He knocked on your bedroom door. Once he got a quiet come in, he opened the door. Your bedroom was so you. It was the only way he could explain it. You were sitting on your bed,  a pair of airpods you had found in your room in your ears. It was your way of escaping your feelings.
“Hey,” Auston whispered, pressing a kiss to your forehead before taking a seat beside you.
You didn’t say anything, only handed him a bud. Your favourite song was playing. Auston pulled you onto his lap, wrapping his arms around you. Letting you snuggle into him for comfort.
“Thank you.”
Auston chuckles, “How do you know I did anything?”
“I know you Aus,” You mumble, pressing a kiss to his lips.
“I’ll always be on your side. You’re my favourite and that won’t ever change.”
“What about your mum?” You ask. You know he and Ema are close.
“She’ll be happy knowing I found the girl I want to marry.”

“We’re parents? Like actually parents?”
Tumblr media
No warnings really… pregnancy ig if that’s a trigger
You sat on the bathroom floor. The cold tiles sending chills throughout your body, the pregnancy test on the counter sat there. Your period was late. You hadn’t told Auston mostly because you just realized it that day but you also didn’t want to freak him out, he already had so much going on during off season. Training and planning for the season to start, it was a lot and the last thing you wanted to do was stress him out. You were shaking, praying for a good outcome but you didn’t know what a good outcome was. Auston and you always talked about getting married first before having kids. That’s just the way you were raised and how you pictured your future. Starting a family was one of your biggest dreams and you had expressed it many times with him but with his career and everything going on for him, he wanted to wait a few more years. On the other hand you wouldn’t mind having a mini you or a mini him running around playing floor hockey until you were confident enough to get them in skates, imagining Auston as a dad made your heart ache longingly for those days but you had no idea how Auston would react to it being so soon. You looked down at your phone. The 3 minute timer rang loudly in your ears and you slowly stood up. Grabbing the packaging you peeled the wrapper back revealing two pink lines. Your breath was caught in your throat. You felt nauseous and shaky. Quiet sobs left your mouth but you covered your mouth because you knew you wouldn’t be able to stop once the crying really started. Your mind started racing with every outcome, truthfully you were happy but god you were terrified what Auston would think. You put the pregnancy test back in the box and threw it in the trash grabbing a wad of toilet paper and throwing it in to cover it. Auston wasn’t too observant thankfully. You knew he’d never look in the trash can and it bought you some time to think about how you would break the news to him.
You washed your hands and wiped your eye’s making yourself look presentable. It was almost 5 and he’d be home from playing golf with Mitch and Willy. Walking out of the bathroom and making your way downstairs you saw Auston pull into the driveway. You watched as the three piled out of the car grabbing their gear out of the back, you sat at the bar scrolling through instagram trying to distract yourself. The front door opening letting the warm Arizona air drift in.
“Hey baby how did the golfing go?” You asked not looking up from your phone.
“Absolutely crushed these goons.” He said laughing. He walked over lightly grabbing the side of your face, planting a kiss to your temple grabbing a beer from the fridge. Your anxiety was through the roof at this point and he knew something was up.
“Man I don’t even care, I’ve won the last 3 games buddy I just let you win this time.” Mitch said throwing his hat on the dining room table. “Sauce me a beer will ya?” Everyone was gathered around the bar at this point chatting and talking about their game mostly making fun of each other laughing.
“Mitch no one likes a sore loser bud.” Willy said cracking the beer open taking a long sip.
“I’m not a sore loser I’m just saying I won the last 3 times. This one win doesn’t mean anything.” You couldn’t help but laugh at their childish banter.
“Baby you want a drink?” Auston asked grabbing a white claw from your side of the drink fridge.
“Oh I’m okay! I’m not thirsty.” You said giving him a small smile, finally looking at him he gave you a weird look putting the drink back in the fridge. He went on with his conversation with the boys who were completely oblivious to the slight tension between you two.
You got up from the bar area heading back up to your room. Auston’s eyes not leaving your figure walking up the marble stairs, you could feel his eyes burning into the back of your head. You laid in your bed with Felix staring at the ceiling, you were so exhausted you slowly drifted off to sleep.
You woke up to it being pitch dark outside and a warm spot from where Felix was laying beside you. You checked your phone and checked the time, 9:55pm, “holy shit y/n… 5 hours?” You rolled your eyes slightly annoyed with yourself for sleeping so long. You definitely weren’t getting any sleep tonight. You got up from the bed walking into the bathroom to brush your teeth and at least get ready for the night and the trash can was spilled onto the floor. Felix had a tendency to go through the trash can and you were mentally punching yourself for not shutting the door this morning. Horror filled your mind as you realized the pregnancy test was missing.
“Fucking hell Felix!” You whispered under your breath. You were certain Auston was probably taking a night swim or watching tv downstairs. All you had to do was find Felix and get the test before Auston could find it. You tiptoed downstairs and found him sitting on the couch watching TV. His back was facing towards you. Felix’s head perked up from the couch, Auston didn’t move and neither did you.
“You wanna talk about it?” His voice was raspy. You could tell he had been crying and your heart broke at the sound of it.
He finally turned around holding the test. His face showed no emotion. Slowly walking towards him the tears started streaming down your face again.
“Auston I didn’t mean to hide it from you I swear. I - I just needed time to process it, I was going to tell you I swear.” Your voice wash shaky and small, he lightly grabbed your wrists bring you down to his lap. His eyes were glossy and his lips curved into a slight smile.
“Y/n I love you with my whole entire being God I can’t even imagine my life without you. I know we weren’t planning this but I’m ready to be a dad if you’re ready to be a mom. I want to grow old with you, I want to raise a little family, teach our kids how to skate, how to play hockey.” He was crying and his words made you cry as well. His hands travelled from your hips to your tummy. His tattooed hand rested onto your tummy lightly rubbing it. Your cheeks were on fire. The feeling of everything was so surreal.
“Auston we’re gonna be parents now…like actual parents!” Tears still poured out of your eyes but a wide smile spread across your face. He placed a kiss on your forehead placing it against yours. “You know I kind of guessed it earlier.” A cocky grin was plastered on his tear stained face. You rolled your eyes.
“Oh yeah? How’s that?” You asked now playing with the chain around his neck.
“You refused a white claw for starters and I know when you start your period and it’s been a week since you usually start. I put two and two together and when Felix brought the test to me it just confirmed it.”
“I’m mildly impressed that you pieced that together.” He just laughed. Lifting your chin up and kissing you. He scanned your features. He was so lucky and he knew it.

emotional bruises | luke hughes x matthews!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
luvhughes43 masterlist🌷
request: what ab a fic where reader and luke have been dating for a long time, say high school sweethearts. reader is the youngest sister of auston matthews (and by association, mitch marner). say after a win one night (or for any other reason) reader and luke go to a club. at said club, luke goes off with his friends and ignores reader. a random guy starts talking to reader and after seeing her talk to a random guy luke gets mad at her. they start fighting and after a bit of fighting reader calls auston to pick her up/rant or whatever and after hanging up/picking her up auston or mitch calls quinn or jack to talk some sense into luke and then reader and luke work through their problems
word count: 1.8k
it happened once you and Luke got back to michigan after Lukes season ended. a few of his university teammates were in town visiting, so everyone decided to go to a club now that everyone was finally legal.
you of course went with the boys, having been dating Luke while he was at umich so you knew and were friends with all of the boys. usually, when you went out with Luke he was very attentive to you, but not tonight.
Luke's laugh echoed through the already loud club. you watched on from the sidelines as the group of friends chatted, sending you small glances every few minutes from the corner of their eyes. you were standing behind Luke who was standing in a circle with the guys.
“I’m going to go get a drink!” you raised your voice so Luke could hear you, but he didn’t respond. you nodded your head in embarrassment and went over to the bar.
The bar was crowded, and it took forever to get your drink. Luke hadn’t even looked in your direction, and you were dreading going back over to the group of boys.
time went by and you just stood there next to the guys, no acknowledgement from Luke or anyone else for that matter.
“Luke? do you wanna go dance?” you finally got the courage to ask, pulling on one of Luke’s sleeves so he’d look at you.
“uh, no not right now i’m talking to ethan” he barely glanced at you as he was talking to you. a minute later he shakes your hand off his arm and you feel your heart fall to the pits of your stomach.
It's not like you were a clingy girlfriend. you understood that Luke wanted to spend time with your guys’ friends, but you wouldn’t let him just ignore you. you guys had been together since forever, and Luke had never acted like this. granted, he wasn’t much for pda but he always made sure to show you affection in other ways.
you took another 10 minutes of Luke's dismissal before deciding to go off on your own. you didn’t even tell him you were leaving the group, you didn’t think he’d care anyway.
“we’re matching!” a girl shouted at you, grabbing onto your hands and pulling you into her group of friends. you laughed, your feelings of hurt fading away as a group of girls easily accepted you into their circle.
you and your new friends all sang and danced together, and you were finally feeling like the night was turning out to be good.
“hey, i’m going to go get another drink!” you shouted to the group as the taylor swift song you were just screaming too faded into another song.
“hey! can you get me another beer?” the girl who originally seeked you out asked and you easily agreed.
as you were waiting for your drinks, a man approached you trying to make small talk.
“how are you doing tonight?” the dark haired brunette asked you as he leaned across the bar.
“I’m fine, how are you?” you replied, looking in the bartenders direction to see how much longer your drinks would take.
“I’m good. could be better though,” the guy smirked as he shifted his body to be angled towards yours.
“oh okay…” you trailed off awkwardly. you usually didn't have to talk to guys at bars because Luke would always volunteer to get your drinks for you but… here you were.
“okay?” the guy chuckled as he copied you. “what? you not interested or something?”
“Uh no i have a boyfriend,” you squirmed. clearly uncomfortable with this whole interaction. you craned your neck to try and look for Luke, but you couldn’t see him through the crowd of people jumping around on the dance floor.
the man just laughed more, “yeah? I’ve heard that one before”
you honestly felt frozen as he moved closer to you, the drinks the bartender just placed in front of you easily ignored.
“no please, i really do have a boyfriend hes…” you whipped around to try and catch a glance of Luke but he was nowhere to be found.
“Baby, you don’t have to play hard to get i'm right here” the guy moved even closer to you and you quickly tried backing away.
“what the fuck?” Luke interrupts the guy's speech angrily.
The unnamed man was going to say something but Luke quickly interrupted, “y/n?? what are you doing?” Luke questioned you instead of the guy, causing the guy to smirk.
“ohh damnn… i didnt realize she was your girl she never told me!” the guy lied, his admission making Luke frown at you.
“Luke what? he wouldn’t leave me alone! I was literally looking for you,” you started but Luke cut you off.
“Yeah sure. Lets just go” luke grabbed one of your arms, pulling you away from the bar and to the outside of the club.
you were so utterly confused.
“why are you being so mean to me tonight?” you asked, feeling the start of a burn rise in your throat.
“are you seriously questioning me right now? you were literally just talking to some man at the bar!” Luke argued, clearly upset at you.
“like i said Luke, he was the one pursuing ME” you argued back, completely tired with how your boyfriend was acting tonight.
“yeah whatever, let's just go home” he rolled his eyes at you, tugging on your arm to take you back towards his car.
“no! you're being such a jerk to me!” you pulled your arm roughly from Lukes grasp, leaving him to just stare at you.
Luke ran a hand frustratingly through his hair. He sighed before continuing, “just get into the car y/n”
your chest was heaving as you slid into the passenger seat.
when you got back to the lake house you immediately set your things up in the empty guest room while Luke was in the bathroom. luckily for you, off season just started so there weren't many people at the house.
As soon as you got settled, you we’re picking up your phone and calling your brother Auston Matthews.
“Auston?” you croaked when you heard the call connect.
“y/n? whats wrong?” you heard Auston sit up in bed at your upset tone.
“Luke and i fought and he- and,” you cried, explaining all of the night's events to your brother who was absolutely fuming.
“I'll take care of it y/n don’t worry,” Auston said as he pulled your boyfriends contact up on his phone.
“Aus no!” you cried out, making Auston stop what he was doing. “I'll talk to him later, I just wanted to get it all out” you cried again, making Auston soften. He hated when you were so upset.
“Okay, i won’t say anything to Luke” he relented, coming up with other strategies to yell at Luke to fix things.
you ended the call ten minutes later and by pure coincidence Luke was knocking at the door.
“y/n i’m sorry about tonight i just…” Luke trailed off and you scrambled out of bed and pulled the door open.
“I don't want to talk to you right now,” you admitted with confidence. all of your sadness had run out and all you were left with was anger.
“y/n please, i’m sorry about tonight it was a misunderstanding and-”
“no seriously Luke, i don’t want to talk to you”
you two went back and forth for awhile before Luke finally admitted defeat and sulked off to his bedroom.
you got adjusted to the guest bedroom bed, eyes closing when you heard the familiar ring tone of your brother's best friend.
“Mitchy?” you asked, and he hummed in reply.
“Aus told me what happened and I just wanted to see if you were okay. He didn’t tell me details or anything but he said you were pretty upset so…” he trailed off and you smiled softly. Mitch Marner never failed to amaze you. He was such a kind friend to not only your brother but to you as well.
“I’m just upset… Luke was ignoring me all night and then he…”
“and then he what?” mitch questioned to which you gave him the full run down.
By the time you finished re-explaining everything and Mitch was done giving you his advice, you were well and truly tired.
As soon as the call ended you instantly drifted off to sleep.
When you woke up, there was a large bouquet of flowers on your night stand. They were pink peonies, a gift Luke usually got you when you were upset or having a bad day.
You messaged Luke to come meet you in the guest room.
“I’m so sorry y/n,” Luke apologized as he rushed into the room and closed the door behind him.
“Flowers aren't going to fix this Luke. You really hurt me last night and I don't even think you understand” you began, already getting irritated.
Luke listened intently to everything you had to say. “At first you ignored me the whole night! and then some guy is being a creep and you accuse me? As if I was the one to do something wrong. You didn't even ask if I was okay! You grabbed at me like I was a child” you tried not to raise your voice as you felt the hurt creep back into your heart.
Luke wholeheartedly agreed with you. He sat down next to you on the bed and you both talked about everything that went down last night.
“I was honestly just jealous that you were talking to somebody else… I get really protective over you and I know I had no right to act the way I did last night. I feel awful” Luke started, apologizing again and trying to explain his side of things. “There’s no excuse for me ignoring you. There’s no excuse for anything I did last night” Luke continued and you nodded along. you found it hard to forgive him, but you promised you’d work on your forgiveness. Luke wasn’t one to get angry at you like that, and it had shaken you up.
Later that night you got a text from your brother.
Auston: did your boy apologize to you yet?
You: what?? I told you not to talk to him? Wtf
Auston: I didn't talk to him… I talked to Quinn instead
You: ??? why
Auston: because you were upset last night and I dont want u to be upset
Auston: especially over some boy
you shut your phone off turning over to Luke. “Your brother told you to apologize to me this morning?” you asked the curly headed boy.
“No. He just made me realize how much I fucked up. your brother messaged Quinn actually,” Luke admitted sheepishly.
You honestly didn't know how you felt about your brother talking to Quinn and then Quinn talking to Luke. You wanted Lukes apology to be genuine and to come from himself.
Luke must've picked up on your feelings because he frowned and held one of your hands, rubbing the side of it with his thumb.
“I really am sorry,” he whispered and you nodded, leaning into his side. You let Luke’s apologies and reassurance lure you into sleep.
