Taurus cruise missiles from Germany to Ukraine?
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/14/2023 - 08:20 in Armaments, Military, War Zones
The German government is talking to the MBDA about the transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
This was reported by Reuters, which cited a security source.
“Germany is focusing on heavy artillery, armored vehicles and air defense systems. There is no new information about the Taurus cruise missile,” a German government spokesman told Reuters.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, commenting on Friday on the growing debate about sending Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, said there is no news to report.
Tumblr media
“There is no new state of affairs to report on this issue,” Scholz told the German newspaper Thüringer Allgemeine in a story published on Friday.
"Our focus continues to be the sending of weapons for air defense, heavy artillery and also tanks. This is the path we will follow, in close consultation with our international partners," he said.
Several politicians inside and outside the ruling coalition government recently discussed the sending of weapons, which can destroy bunkers and protected command posts at a distance of up to 500 kilometers. The German Ministry of Defense, however, also made it clear when asked that there was no change in policy.

Low-flying cruise missiles, such as the Taurus, are difficult to detect by air defense radars. The Taurus has a range of more than 500 km and is launched by fighters such as the Tornado, the F-15 or the F-18. It is mainly used to target high-value targets behind enemy lines, such as command bunkers, ammunition and fuel depots, airfields and bridges.
The United Kingdom and France have supplied Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles (SCALP), which are fired from Soviet-made modified aircraft, such as the Su-24 Fencer.

US Navy Lockheed P2V 7 Neptune Of Patrol Squadron VP 56 DragonsHawaiian Shirt
The Lockheed P2V Neptune was a civilian airliner converted to a naval patrol aircraft. The Neptune was originally developed as the Lockheed L-188 Electra by Lockheed in the early 1960s, but it found few buyers before the conversion to a naval aircraft. Entering service with the US Navy in 1971, the Neptune served as both a strategic reconnaissance and patrol aircraft. The Neptune remained in service with the US Navy until 1992, when it was replaced by the AgustaWestland AW101 Merlin.

The search and rescue helicopter banks steeply over Dorset’s Jurassic coastline, its downward-facing radar capable of finding a single person that might be lost, floating in the English Channel. For this demonstration flight, the weather is perfect, but as Mark Burnand, chief test pilot at Leonardo Helicopters explains, the AW101 is equally capable in zero visibility, tracking casualties in heavy…

Five NATO aircraft carriers perform exercises in large naval deployment
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/20/2022 - 17:00 in Military
NATO navies perform maneuvers in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea throughout November, bringing together five aircraft carriers, numerous warships and thousands of sailors.
The activities of the aircraft carrier will include anti-submarine and air warfare exercises, aircraft transfers from deck to deck and refueling at sea.
Tumblr media
In the North Atlantic, the USS Gerald R. Ford, the newest and largest warship in the world, arrived in the United Kingdom after weeks of exercises alongside warships from Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. The Royal Navy's HMS Queen Elizabeth left Portsmouth on November 10 for exercises with F-35 fighters in the North Atlantic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Mediterranean, the Charles De Gaulle of the French Navy - escorted by Greek, American and Italian ships - left Toulon on November 15 for deterrent patrols on the eastern flank of NATO and counterterrorism operations in the Middle East. Also in the region are the Italian aircraft carriers Cavour and the USS George H. W. Bush.
youtube
In recent weeks, jets from George H. W. Bush carried out deterrent patrols over Lithuania and Poland. The Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour still seems to be operating in the Mediterranean. The aircraft carrier, which can carry F-35Bs, AV-8 Harrier jets and AW101 helicopters, left its base port in Taranto in early October to participate in the Mare Aperto 22-2 Exercise, which also included forces from other members of NATO and the European Union (EU).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said that the developments "demonstrate our ability to project power throughout the Alliance and quickly strengthen the Allies".
Tumblr media
In the context of Russia's war against Ukraine, she said: "These aircraft carriers offer deterrence and help keep our maritime lines of communication open. Our strength sends a clear message that NATO will protect and defend every inch of allied territory." At the NATO Summit in March, the Allies decided to deploy attack groups of aircraft carriers, submarines and a significant number of combat ships on patrol on a persistent basis.

Atlantique 2 in standard 6 is declared operational in the French Navy
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/20/22 - 15:43 in Military
On November 10, 2022, Admiral Pierre Vandier, Head of the French Navy, signed the operational entry into service of the Atlantique 2 renewed to standard 6, the latest version of the maritime patrol aircraft.

Two years after the enactment of the first operational capacity, this capacity milestone attests to the aircraft's ability to conduct the full spectrum of missions assigned to it.
The upgrade of the Atlantique 2 to standard 6 offers new capabilities, in particular thanks to the new digital acoustic processing system, the Searchmaster radar, the new electro-optical sensor and the new tactical computer to accommodate the updated version of the Operational Information Processing Software (LOTI).

With nine modified aircraft, the Atlantique 2 standard 6 has already demonstrated its full effectiveness during operations carried out in the Baltic Sea, the central and eastern Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean or the Gulf of Guinea, but also outside the French approaches as part of its participation in the maritime defense of the territory.
This profound renovation of the Atlantique 2 makes it a competitive tool in the face of modern threats. Thus, by the end of its useful life, in 2035, the 18 aircraft brought to standard 6 will allow France to remain at the level of its most efficient allies.

ATL 2 was originally developed with the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) as its main mission, with the first prototype flying on May 8, 1981. However, the project was a redesign of the original Breguet 1150 Atlantic, originally flown 20 years earlier and is intended to provide a common ASW platform for European NATO operators.
The first-generation Atlantique initially served with the French, German, Italian and Dutch military, with examples also eventually exported to Pakistan. The Dassault-Breguet Atlantique 2 entered service in 1992 at Marine Nationale.

Powered by two Rolls-Royce Tyne engines, the aircraft has a maximum speed of 600 kilometers per hour and a range of more than 7,300 kilometers.
It is capable of carrying up to 3.5 tons of weapons, including deep-depth loads, mines and torpedoes, and can also fire Aérospatiale AM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles.

Portuguese Air Force Receives Two New Leonardo AW119 MkII Koala Utility Helicopters
The Portuguese Air Force (Força Aérea Portuguesa; FAP) has received two new Leonardo AW119 MkII Koala utility helicopters. The helicopters were officially received on 22 November at the Maneuver Airfield No1, in Ovar. The helicopters were delivered from Leonardo Helicopters in Italy. The two helicopters are the latest addition to the FAP's fleet of helicopters, which also includes AW101s and Super Lynx aircraft. The AW119Kx will provide greater versatility and performance compared to the current fleet of ageing single engine rotary wing aircraft, as well as an outstanding training capability for military crews before moving to the AW101, Super Lynx and other frontline types. The FAP has ordered a total of five AW119Kx helicopters from Leonardo. The first three helicopters were delivered in 2019 and 2020, and the remaining two helicopters are expected to be delivered in the near future. The helicopters are being used for a variety of missions, including search and rescue, utility, and personnel recovery. The Leonardo AW119 Koala, produced by Leonardo since 2016, is an eight-seat utility helicopter powered by a single turboshaft engine produced for the civil market. Introduced as the Agusta A119 Koala prior to the Agusta-Westland merger, it is targeted at operators favoring lower running costs of a single-engine aircraft over the redundancy of a twin. AgustaWestland promote the type as possessing excellent flight qualities with high levels of controllability, maneuverability and inherent safety. The design of the rotorcraft is derived from Agusta's earlier and highly successful A109 helicopter, differing primarily by being equipped with a single engine, a Pratt & Whitney PT6B-37A turboshaft engine, and using fixed skids in place of the A109's retractable wheeled landing gear arrangement. The AW119 shares the same cockpit and cabin of the AW109, along with commonality with various other systems, while costing roughly half of the latter's price tag.
