Tonight on “Late Night Aus that have Very Little Thought put into them: With Rosie” here’s a potential BatIM AU inspired by myths and triggered by one of the comics on my bookshelf. It’s about the wonderful, oceanic, Irish Fae known as the Selkie.

Basically, what if Henry was a Selkie whose coat had been stolen and was stuck on land trying to make a living until he could get it back?

And he left the studio because he finally found the person who’d stolen it, took it back from them, and returned to the sea. (And possibly to escape Joey? Depends on the relationship at that point.)

Who stole the coat? It could have been Joey. He the obvious suspect for a batim au. But, if you wanna go more comedy instead of deep personal betrayal, it could have also been someone that they didn’t know. Someone who never worked at the studio.

(Why would they take a random seal-pelt? Selkie/Animal Bride myths aren’t that uncommon. They probably thought they’d get a hot babe. Instead they ended up with a random dude panicking on the beach and “Oh, shit. I ain’t gay, and I ain’t gonna get my ass handed to me. I’m nope-ing out of here.” and then didn’t drop the pelt while taking off.)

(I’ll be real with you though--the Were-Wally AU is kinda misleadingly named...WW!Wally isn’t just “generic werewolf but Cartoony”, he’s a Were-Boris! He accidentally walked in on Joey attempting to bring Boris to life via Occult Ritual (which he’s already used to create Bendy!), and thanks to fucky haywire magic + the moon’s phase lining up just so, he ends up transforming into Boris every full moon! Everyone else in the Studio is a normal human--aside from Bendy ofc)

That being said...I lovelovelove ANYTHING to do with “characters as monsters/cryptids/mythological beasties based on their personalities” (my pal @arcadequeerz​​​​ has an entire BATIM AU based around That Exact Concept called the Monster Studio AU--also features a Bunch of our OCs), so even though this is more personal BatIM headcanon-based than anything WW related, HERE YOU GO:

Joey: Demon (but like...a really shitty low-ranking hellspawn, the infernal equivalent of a used car salesman That’s not even meant to be a parallel to Bendy or anything, I just really like the idea of Joey being an absolutely Mediocre demon jkdfdssd

Henry: Werewolf

Jack: Selkie (borrowing from the MS AU for this...the idea of Jack just Chilling as a chubby harbor seal is Too Good)

Allison: Mermaid 

Norman: I’m torn between a Dryad (bc dude is TALL and BUILT), a Dullahan (bc headless horseman) or maybe Mothman? 

Shawn: Satyr 

Grant: Kiiinda iffy on this one but...some kind of spider monster? If only because I personally hc Grant as an arachnophobe so ~irony~

Thomas: Also a werewolf? I know that kinda feels like a cop out but I Legit cannot think of anything else for him gjkdff

So, you know how you have a Selkie!Wally, right? What if we had something similar, buts its of the different varients of Bendy with seal tails instead of just Wally? All of them live in a pack of sorts, and will willingly attack anybody who gets into their territory. Anybody who isn't a demon-seal, of course.

I find it ironic that your ask header says "bother me about Henry" because that's exactly what I'm here to do. If I recall correctly you're the one who owns the Henry in the recent merfolk au where a lot of the batim cast is trapped in an aquarium? In the months after Susie finds out that Sammy is a selkie (in training) she is very supportive. However, she is also still processing the fact that her prickly, tall, intimidating boss is sometimes a 200-lb harbor seal who makes a huge mess while trying to eat tuna treats. It will take some getting used to.

Rest assured there is all sorts of body horror nonsense and seal behavior as Sammy grapples with this Fun New Thing That He's Discovered About Himself While He's Trying To Meet Deadlines and there's lots of Jack guiding him gently into a world he's familiar with.

Silly and short selkie au thing because I wanted to draw Sammy and Henry interacting. They're not super close at first, but Henry just was just trying to make polite conversation and it just ended up landing on the topic of Sammy's hair... Speaking of, Sammy didn't start off his selkiehood with long hair, but he grows it out after starting to embrace this new part of himself because it feels right. He'd wouldn't admit that to most people, though.

Selkie AU Sammy deals with all sorts of New And Fun Sensations once he finds out that he's a selkie, including but not limited to having frequent and intense cravings for fish, and sometimes this means sneaking in snacks at work (and then not wanting to admit to Jack that he gave into the craving, bc that would mean he is giving into this whole selkie thing, which he DOES NOT WANT,). The cravings are especially fun to hide when people keep bothering him without notice. Oh yeah, Susie is very present in this au :3c I'm sure Sammy and Jack will be able to keep all this selkie nonsense from her, for sure, yeah...

Omg!!! more selkie au stuff after 505035203598 year.... Was just thinking about how Jack and Sammy met again... They met as very young kids! They lived near each other in the New York harbor, and Sammy's father was a fisherman, who, for reasons related to keeping Sammy from finding out he was a selkie, expressly forbade Sammy from going into the ocean. During a walk on the boardwalk, he spotted a juvenile harbor seal all tied up in fishing nets, and he dared to disobey his father and walked on the beach to help it. The seal just happened to be Jack. They've been friends since then. Needless to say, Jack absolutely enabled Sammy to go into the ocean, and most likely taught him to swim.

Hello! I just found your selkie au! I was wondering, since Sammy didn’t find out he was a selkie until later in life, did Jack have to teach him how to swim when in seal form? (Or even at all since I wouldn’t be surprised if Sammy wasn’t allowed near water growing up lol)

Hello!! Yes, Jack has to teach Sammy how to swim in seal form since Sammy hadn't been swimming in seal form since birth. In this universe, when selkies are born, the mothers teach the babies to swim from a very very young age, and since Sammy never got that from his mother (who ran away), he has to rely on other sources for help (Jack). And you're right about the thing with his dad! Sammy in this AU has a really complicated relationship with water. His father was a fisherman and they both lived near water, but any time he went in, he felt a strange pull toward it... he wanted to be there and never leave... but it felt wrong. Something was Missing. So even after his father was no longer his primary guardian who made sure he avoided water, he just avoided it as much as he could. Wanting it but being afraid of its pull. But now that he's found out about his selkie origins, he has to learn to swim in seal form, and Jack is happy to help. Sammy ends up loving water since he no longer feels like he's Missing Something, even if he doesn't want to admit it to Jack. Especially when he already feels ridiculous in his seal form.

It's really funny u ask this actually, bc this is one of the AUs I have that like. Doesn't really involve a lot of ink nonsense, if any. As of right now, I don't have concrete plans to deal with ink stuff in this AU, but I wouldn't say it would never happen! Though I did think about it, and in case we ever do figure something out, here's a perfectly normal selkie for you :)

Do selkie Jack and Sammy turn into any particular kind of seal when they put their coats on?

Yes!!! Jack and Sammy's Full Seal Forms are harbor seals!!! I decided this based on a bunch of research I did about native seals in the NYC area. They show up offshore in NYC and also in the Hudson River during certain times of the year
