Plane nerds are kinda ehh, Ship nerds are the 300 IQ elite of the military history space, Tank nerds are in an endless knifefight to the death about the T-14 Armata. But all three can hold hands and unite in looking down on Gun nerds.
Apparently the Hollow Knight wiki is moving off fandom, in part because at one point fandom added AI quick answers which included the absolute gem that Hornet is shipped with Yorktown (her older sister) and Enterprise (her older sister).
I've started building a model of the HMS Victory recently. So far it's been going surprisingly well.
HMS Victory is definitely one of my favourite age of sail ships. She has been in service with the royal navy for 246 years. Her most notable battle is certainly the battle of trafalgar where she was Vice Admiral Nelson flagship. Today she is the flagship of the first sea lord and is a museum ship open to the public.
I think rowing has broken me as a person. I was trying to shower quickly and as soon as I got in I started chanting in my head DRAW ONE, DRAW TWO, DRAW THREE, LENGTHEN ONE, LENGTHEN TWO, SIT BACK, WIND ONE, WIND TWO, WIND THREE as if that was gonna make me shower faster
there's shipwrecks out by the river, a few miles down from the bridge. or, well, (ha) maybe it's a bit more like a graveyard. most people i mention this to are surprised: shipwrecks? so close to home? its strange to think about.
Listening to book on Eastern Front and saying "wow does anyone have a stupider and sloppier approach to strategy than Germany?" and then listening to Shattered Sword and seeing, "yeah."
She was one of the paddlewheelers I was set to play deckhand on back before the ronas stuck. I believe that one is a true paddlewheeler too, unlike the (new) Mississippi Queen who had a fake one it just dragged behind for show. Both are still neat boats tho. :3
Last night I dreamt I was the skipper of a race yacht, sailing the annual "Brisbane to Sydney". I was having a cheese toastie at South Bank minutes before we were meant to report to the start line lmao.
We won line honours. I remember my disbelief as we crossed the finish line because we kept looking behind to see if the other boats were there and they never got close. For a while I just thought we were dead last.
Also, I had forgotten to arrange transport back to Brissy so I had to figure out public transit back.
Do you have many opportunities to spend time on boats? What museum ships do you most want to see?
My interest in boats has only really started in the last two months and I haven't had any opportunities to visit any. And I live in south germany which is unfortunately far from any big harbours and boats. Really the only boat I have been on recently was during a work trip to tokyo last year. Which was a good boat but certainly not a big, beautiful sailship.
As for museum ships I would of course like to visit HMS Victory and USS Constitution but I doubt I need to explain much considering how famous they are.
I'd love to go to hamburg again at some point and go to the Rickmer Rickmers a late 19th century sail ship used for trade with Hongkong and later Chile until it was confiscated by the Portuguese during ww1 and was then used by Britain and later Portugal until it returned to Hamburg in 1983 becoming a museum ship.
And the Swedish Vasa which was a complete disaster. She sank during her maiden voyage in 1628 due to massive issues with her construction(far to top heavy). It was raised up from 1959 until 1961 and is now a museum ship.
