Today, almost 80 years since Allied troops arrived on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, The Princess Royal attended a series of commemorative #DDay80 events in the region.

As President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Her Royal Highness visited Bayeux Cemetary, which holds the graves of those who lost their lives on D-Day.

As Colonel-in-Chief of the Regina Rifles, The Princess unveiled a statue to remember the sacrifices made by the regiment in 1944. The new memorial standards in Bretteville, which the soldiers of the Regina Rifles liberated 80 years ago.

At Bayeux Cathedral where the bells were rung in celebration of the town’s liberation in 1944, The Princess Royal attended the annual Service of Commemoration.

The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, today undertook engagements in Normandy, France, to commemorate the Eightieth Anniversary of D-Day and was received upon arrival at Caen-Carpiquet Airport by Mr Theophilus Rycroft (Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy in Paris).

Her Royal Highness, Colonel-In-Chief, The Royal Regina Rifles, accompanied by Admiral Laurence, this afternoon unveiled a statue and attended a Reception at 10 Place des Canadiens, Thue et Mue, Bretteville.

The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, later attended a Service of Commemoration and Reception to mark the Eightieth Anniversary of the Normandy Landings at Bayeux War Cemetery, 1945 Boulevard Fabian Ware, Bayeux.

Her Royal Highness, President, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, accompanied by Admiral Laurence, this evening attended the Annual Service in Bayeux Cathedral to commemorate the Anniversary of the D-Day Landings and was received by His Majesty’s Ambassador to the French Republic (Her Excellency Dame Menna Rawlings).

The Princess Royal, President, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, afterwards attended a Service to commemorate the Eightieth Anniversary of the Normandy Landings at Bayeux War Cemetery.
