Edward Cullen would have had to have been changed between September 21st and November 16th (because of the timing of the Spanish Influenza outbreak in Chicago) so he would have had to face the anniversary of his Mother, his Father, and his own death possibly (depending on how early they died) days after he left his love, whilst already in a massive depression.

I'm not American, so correct me if I'm wrong, but Google says the Spanish Influenza didn't reach Chicago until September 1918, but Edward and his parents somehow died from it, in Chicago, in the Summer of 1918. Meaning it's likely, in the Twilight universe, that Edward and his parents brought the Spanish Influenza to Chicago, killing thousands of people.
Honestly, that makes the hating himself for being a monster kinda make more sense.
Either that or Stephanie Meyer, again, has not done any kind of research for he published novel and the editors simply could not be fucked.
