#but generally i assume tags on reblogs only count for the blog they're on
pseudophan · 16 days
Note
does fandom metrics work by counting how we tag everything on our blogs (reblogs, etc) or just original posts?
i'm not entirely sure how it works but considering search and trending only count tags on original posts i would Assume it's only those. BUT, and this is key, it's not just the amount of posts with the tag that counts it's also the engagement on those posts. which is why i'm extra !!!! about people tagging their gifsets and art and other posts they know will get a lot of notes because that's honestly probably what contributes the most

Yo I heard that some new folks are moving to Tumblr! I've only been on this site for about a year but I've learned a lot in that time about how things run around here. Here are some things newbies might wanna know, and welcome to Tumblr! 💛
Please put a PFP and name on your Tumblr blog, even if you're not using it to post stuff. A lot of folks will assume you're a bot and block you if you don't.
On the topic of bots, Tumblr has an issue with spambots right now. Spambots have PFPs of stereotypically-pretty women, weird usernames, and sometimes have a single post of explicit crap. Block and report the blog as spam.
Tumblr works with a hashtag system and although there is a large trending page, it focuses more on the sub-communities found in tags (like fandom spaces) and individual posts themselves than subscriber counts and influencer status. Your posts won't get many, if any, views unless you tag your posts (for example, art can be tagged as #art, #artists on tumblr, #drawing, etc).
Reblogs are better than likes in many circumstances because it gives posts a more widespread reach. Plus, you'll have lots of cool stuff to look at on your blog later, and it'll become like a personal gallery of your favorite things!
You can tag your reblogs for sorting purposes, but your reblogs won't show up in the main tags. However, others can see your reblogs if they look at the original post's notes (unless it's a private reblog).
Sideblogs are a thing, and they're usually created for fandoms, reblog dumps, special interests, etc. Your first blog is called your "main", and your likes and comments will always come from your main blog, so you may want to specify on your sideblog where you're interacting from. Sideblogs can also be made private if you'd like.
A lot of Tumblr users have a DNI linked somewhere in their blog description or pinned post, which it's usually a good idea to read, as many DNI lists are more than just basic criteria and some people have more specific triggers.
In general, block radfems and gender critical folks. They're not worth your time.
Tumblr is going through a lot of tests and changes at the moment, a lot of which are a little controversial, so you may see folks talking about those sorts of things.
We celebrate some weird holidays around here (Caesear's death anniversary, Out of Touch Thursday, Neil banging out the tunes anniversary, etc.) so feel free to join in the fun!
If somebody compliments your shoelaces, say you stole them from the President.

This is a general observation on discourse (not about anything in particular, don't start accusing me of commenting on some drama or other), but I think people use "support" in a way that is... maybe too vague.
Like, when people use it for celebrities like JKR and the Harry Potter franchise, you know what they mean. If you're buying HP merch, you're financially supporting her. If you talk positively about HP (even if you don't "support" her in the form of personally approving of what she does), she sees that as support for her actions, and uses it as motivation to continue harming others. So, if someone engages with HP in this day and age (with the exception of critiques, which I'm decently sure cannot be misconstrued as support even by the bitch herself), it's understandable that people would see that as supporting JKR, especially with how knowledge of these actions counts as supporting her is spreading – it's not often something one can do unintentionally, not on Tumblr at least. In other spaces, one may be more likely to be out of the loop, but I've still seen information spread on other social medias and even irl about what exactly people mean by "supporting JKR", and what that entails.
This does not really translate to online discourse, with bloggers instead of celebrities. Unless a person is remarkably horrible, you're not going to know all their bad takes and behavior unless you dig for them. And most people don't dig for them! Why would they?! There's no obvious reason they should! A lot of people barely check DNIs!! Add to that the fact that when it comes to many strands of discourse, people will have tags or words filtered out, and will thus see only that someone is speaking on a topic, but not their actual opinions, and have no reason or desire to look at discussion on something they've purposefully tried to avoid just to find out what that someone is saying. So you've got a situation where people will accuse others of "supporting" someone they would have no good reason to know the bad takes or behavior of, and it's a miracle if the person making the accusation actually elaborates.
Moreover, "showing support" for bloggers isn't the same as famous people. Reblogging a post on one topic does not mean showing support for the OP's opinion on a separate topic (assuming the reblogger even knows of it, which can be very unlikely, given how posts can spread far from their blog of origin). And you can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I don't think many bloggers assume support based on things like that. When you've seen people follow your blog even though they have a label or community you're part of in their DNI, you learn quick that engagement with your blog means shit all when it comes to people's opinions of you. I have no reason to see likes or reblogs as support for every word out of my mouth, only the specific ones that people are leaving notes on.
Circling back around to an earlier point I made, "support" in and of itself is a very vague concept. I think many folks using this term actually mean "approve", as in, "Do you approve of X's problematic actions?", but this hidden meaning makes such accusations even more ridiculous, especially when they're being leveled at a person just for a reblog or comment on another's post. Must you personally approve of everything a person has ever done in life to interact with them or treat them civilly? Must a person offer up for critique everything they have ever done in life so strangers can decide whether they deserve to be interacted with or treated civilly? This is a ridiculous demand to make of either side of an interaction, online or offline.
I know there's situations where this kind of questioning is warranted. I'm pretty sure a lot of users on here have found out they reblogged some innocuous looking post from someone they later found out was an asshole, and that put the reblogged post in a new light. But I don't see a lot of that with these accusations of "support". Instead, I often see people who others have simply decided are Bad, for one reason or another, and thus anyone who interacts with them must either denounce that interaction as soon as possible or be labeled as Bad too, even if they're not told why the OP is Bad. There's a difference between "hey, that person you reblogged from is an active asshole and bigot, just thought you might want to know" and "why do you personally approve of all these problematic actions that I will not elaborate on but assume you know about and support the continuation of (never mind if they were one-off occurrences or actually continued offenses) because you reblogged a post on the reblogging posts website. Answer quickly."
Even when you do get an explanation, it's often either a bunch of little things that aren't a big deal (which is like. Congrats, you found proof this person wasn't born perfect. Do you want a medal for your service?), or something blown out of proportion. Sometimes, yes, these little things piss me off enough to block the blog in question, but that's on a case-by-case basis based on my own feelings on the matter, not some kind of "three strikes you're out" policy. There's not a limit to how many times you can fuck up before people decide you no longer get to grow as a person. That's – and I'm not exaggerating, since I've seen similar concepts in actual books about this – something dystopian. "Yeah but they did A and B and C and D and –" and?? Are people never allowed to make mistakes or have unpopular opinions?? Do you think everything in the world must line up with how you personally feel it should?? Who the fuck are you to decide they've worded one post too many poorly and are thus A Bad Person??
And like. What's the point of it? What's the point of asking if someone "supports x blogger"? So you can label them as Bad By Association? So you can shame more and more people for interacting with people you've decided to other? That's called being an asshole at best and a bully (abuser, really, since bullying is also known as peer abuse) trying to make sure their victim has no positive relationships at worst. "I've decided I don't like this person and that they are Bad Now And Forever, so I'm going to tell everyone that they should never talk to this person ever, framing these actions in the worst possible light as I do so. And if they continue talking to this person and don't immediately accept my demands, they are also Bad Now And Forever, and all of them deserve to be othered, possibly even harassed depending on my feelings on the matter." That's fucking ridiculous.
All of this to say; accusing someone of "supporting x blogger", especially for something like reblogging a post from them, is ridiculous, and just reads as bait. You're not spreading awareness, you're not helping people keep themselves safe, you're just stirring up drama.

Formerly the Calendar Collective, now the Atypical Collective. We like the nickname Cal.
Polyfragmented DID System. 23 body age. Unknown alter count in the 200 range and many subsystems. White, trans, queer. It/Its pronouns are always OK to use for us, He/Him pronouns are OK to use unless otherwise indicated. We use both we/us and I/me personal pronouns. Sometimes we forego personal pronouns altogether.
Tonetags: In general we don't usually mind using them in message we send, but sometimes will ask them not to be used in messages to us, as they can cause us confusion and distress. We are also able to use the full word forms of tonetags as a compromise sometimes when otherwise incapable of using them.
We tag our posts with some sort of identifier like (Name).exe. This is mostly for personal/archival purposes.
Everything that you physically can reblog is OK to reblog.
We're also autistic, have ADHD, OCD, schizoaffective, and several PDs (Prism has a blog for PD stuff @prismposting )
We are physically disabled from multiple conditions and use forearm crutches.
I'm not bothered to make a DNI list and no one will probably care to DNI if they're on it so instead, know this: I curate my online experience to my personal enjoyment and safety. This means any blogs that threaten our safety or the safety of marginalized others, spread misinformation, or make us feel uncomfortable will be either removed as a follower or blocked, as we see fit.
This will always include bigotry, such as racism, homophobia & transphobia, and ableism.
I prefer not to participate in syscourse, for my mental health. My disorder doesn't need to be a debate. I'm just living here. The only "syscourse" this blog will see is correction of misinformation, regardless of "side".
Please keep in mind that our posts are not necessarily meant to be broadly relatable and may be specific to our own experience with C-DID. I tend to view my system through a very medical lense as it has helped me with recovery from my trauma. Do not assume I am forcing this choice on you or come at me with ill intent for voicing my own experience.
Do not feel entitled for more information than I have given. This paragraph is so long because I, lightheartedly, like to overshare on the internet, on my own terms. Really want to find out more and you have to sift through the endless sea of meme reblogs to find my untagged 3 am ramblings.
Anyone using the term "narc/narcisstic abuse" will be blocked on sight.
Tags we use if you need to block something (with the exception of flashing gifs or explicit talk about these subjects we only tag original posts): #alcohol ment, #weed cw, #drugs cw, #flashing gifs
OC tags: #oc.exe (catchall), #cal.oc, #poison.oc, #city.oc, #sol.oc, #von.oc, #oriel.oc, #os.oc, #chase.oc, #cora.oc
You can find our ClanGen Warrior Cats OC Webcomic at @frogclangen
The tag for our actual cat is #naomi

⋆ welcome to my uquiz blog ⋆
☆ hi! i'm mod QUEST! (they/them) ☆
i made this blog to compile quizzes that i like.
☆ ABOUT THE BLOG ☆
i won't post every day, but i'll post whenever i find a nice quiz.
feel free to suggest whether i should add or remove a tag to a quiz.
feel free to suggest new quiz content tags.
feel free to suggest what kind of content should be tagged for people to blacklist.
in relation to the above, i may not be able to guarantee that all older posted quizzes will be tagged accordingly, but if i remember or review the quiz's content i might add them!
feel free to ask for a quiz to be taken down. it'd be preferable if the reason why is stated.
☆ ABOUT SUBMISSIONS ☆
feel free to submit quizzes!
i do not accept quizzes with hogwarts houses or harry potter questions.
quizzes that are not on uquiz are allowed. this blog is only called this way because i mostly use uquiz to search for quizzes.
if you know that the quiz maker made a tumblr post that links to the quiz, i’d prefer to be sent a link to the post so i can reblog it.
relating to the above, if someone submits to me a tumblr post to a quiz that is posted here in this blog, i am willing to delete the post i previously made so that the next reblogs/likes will pile up on the original post.
please do take note that i can delete or not post submissions for any reason big or small and without notice too.
please avoid sending anything that has explicit nsfw. while i am an adult i do not feel happy with that. nsfw jokes are okay.
don't worry too much about the tagging. i have still yet to get used to submissions, but i can go through the tagging if they're done correctly and i might edit them to my own will too.
if you can’t submit via the submission box for whatever reason, it’s fine to send it via the ask box!
☆ MAIN TAG LIST ☆
18+ advised: while no explicit nsfw will be here, this tag is for quizzes i feel are best avoided by minors; if you're a minor i suggest blacklisting this.

has skippable lyric/quote question
has no song/singer question without lyrics
has skippable song/singer question without lyrics
has emotionally heavy question: eg. questions about relationship between quiz taker to their parents, questions about biggest fears.
has no emotionally heavy question
has no required romance-related question: only refers to that of the quiz taker's romance; questions about those not of the taker (eg. character shipping opinions) will not fall under this. questions such as “what do you think of romance?” with an answer option similar to “i don't like it” will fall under this.
has no lengthy choices
has skippable lengthy choices
has image choices: for when some choices include images.
has described image choices: for if the choices are described. subset of the above. images that are described in a less descriptive way will not count (eg. a picture of a dog captioned “friend”)

has low-contrast background and text: for quizzes which have backgrounds on which text can be difficult to read
hilariously bad quizzes: yes, some quizzes are very tone-deaf but they will be avoided at most times.
parody quizzes: made to make fun of something terrible. this might also be avoided at most times.
romance-related quizzes: range from assigning partners to ideal dates and other similar topics that involve the quiz taker's view on romance alone.
shipping-related quizzes: not a subgroup to the romance-related tag because that tag is less about fandom, but this tag is about shipping characters romantically.

👉 Daemon/Zephyr
👉 they/them
👉 Art blog: @daemon-doodles
👉 I don't do background checks on the people I reblog from! Please do not assume I agree with the person in question, just the post itself!
👉 DNI if TERF/radfem, MAP/NOMAP/etc, incest/pedophilia shipper, AI "art" defender, truly believe fiction doesn't affect reality, likely to say "I'm not racist/homophobic (etc) but", and anyone in that genre.
👉 Sorting Tags Under the Cut (buckle up, this is a long one)
Tagging Conventions:
- Pairings are written with each character's name and a "&" between them, with no spaces (e.g. #zelda&link, #b'elanna&tom&harry).
- Some relationship tags (ship or not) have titles attached to them (e.g. #the twilight princesses // midna&zelda, #the noceda kids // luz and vee and hunter).
- I use common acronyms/short versions for fandoms, like "tloz," "voy," etc. If a LoZ game's acronym is less than 4 letters, it'll have "tloz" in front, like "#tloz oot", "#tloz ww", etc, except for #4s.
This will all be covered in the corresponding individual sections as well, don't worry. Ok, onto specifics...
(this isn't even all of them)
Fandom & Lore Tags:
• #moimois (fandom related memes. this is what French people call memes on r/rance)
Star Trek:
• #star trek
- #best st
- #tng
- #the next gen's enterprise crew
- #the next gen boys (Worf, Riker, Data, Geordi)
- #voy
- #the voyager crew
+ other ST series tags (#tos, #aos...).
UT/DR:
• #utdr
- #undertale
- #deltarune
These tags are complimentary with #utdr for precision.
- #deltaspooks (DELTARUNE lore)
- #saltspooks (Salt Route AU lore)
- #DR friendship
- #UT friendship
... the latter are usually under #[ˈfɹɛndˌʃɪp] as well.
- #funny bigshot man
- #spamton (the more serious stuff)
- #gaster's emo band (jevil, spamton and gaster)
- #Official DELTARUNE Lore ™ (silly lore bits or theories that make sense)
Minecraft:
• #minecraft
• #Enhancement Table (formerly "Minecraft lore pun". i finally got a good name!)
The Legend of Zelda:
• #tloz
- #botw
- #botw incorrect quotes
- #best botw incorrect quotes
- #perfect botw (ideas for my ideal botw mod)
- #the hyrulean count (i fucking counted every npc- just in the settlements though- before realizing there are tons of even more compete lists online)
+ other game tags (#alttp, #hwaoc, etc). If the game's acronym that I use is shorter than 4 letters, it'll come after "tloz" (#tloz oot, #tloz tp, etc.) EXCEPT for #4s.
I have yet to go through every Zelda tag I have and put "#tloz" on each post so they're not all under this tag.
• #hyruleculture (loz lore/worldbuilding)
- #hylia's work (the best of the best in loz worldbuilding)
• #linked universe
- #lu dudes (just the LU guys in general)
• #i'm a disastor & #disastorous (anything Astor HWAoC)
Other:
• #aceattorney (I'm noting this one in particular because it's the only one I still use from back when I didn't put spaces in my tags)
• #Black Swan Archives (KotLC lore because i used to read that series when i was younger and i'm still a big fan okay? sue me)
Other fandom tags will just be the acronym or name.
AU Tags:
- #tloz au
- #modernzelda
- #botw au/#totk au
- #swap au (this one is all encompassing; could be a personality swap, a role swap, a gender swap, etc; can be any fandom)
Relationship Tags:
• #/'fæməlɪ/ (familial- including found-familial- interactions)
• #[ˈfɹɛndˌʃɪp] (quality friend interactions)
• #domestic romance best romance
• ToH:
These ones in particular have very clever little nicknames with them (I stole them from other people).
- #sworn siblings // luz and hunter
- #the twins // luz and vee
- #the noceda kids // luz and vee and hunter
- #the clawthorne kids // luz and king
There's also:
- #the owl house kids
- #the owl house parents
for group content. The pairings are all the normal format with no nicknames.
• Pairings:
Format: [name]&[name]. "[] and []" is just for general relationships, like on ao3 with the difference between "[]/[]" and "[] & []".
The following are pairings with specifics:
- #zelda&link (BotW ZeLink only)
- #post calamity
- #pre calamity
- #got the botw energy right (not entirely zelink some of it is just the botw experience, but since so many people characterize zelda and link wrong in botw, it's used to sort out the best of the best)
- #link&zelda (every other ZeLink)
- #zelink place of honor
- #link&sheik (for when Sheik is separate from Zelda. Or trans. Or both)
- #midna&zelda // the twilight princesses
- #midna&zelda&link // the tp ot3
Other pairing tags just follow the format "[]&[]".
General Tags:
Art:
• #artandartists
- #arttips
- #insp
- #style insp
- #color insp
- #lighting insp

• #pieces of humanity (it's about the love)
• #people being people (people never really change. it's about the necessity of getting a little silly with it)
• #hope
• #happy
"Saved":
• #saved (general posts, I usually just put this on everything)
- #super saved
- #ultra saved
- #saved as hell
- #saved. (i have an emotional reaction to these)
- #Dave (non-fandom-related memes)
- #minenow (the OG #saved)
• #sacred (important parts of the internet)
• #posts of all time
• #posts with a certain feel to them (the feeling is the one you get when faced with something bigger than you)
Other:
• #important
- #important.
• #2: electric boogaloo (an update to a post i've made or, more likely, reblogged)
• #a good laugh ™
-#lol_irl (fittingly, things that make me laugh out loud, in real life)

Since they were all raised on different planets, what accents do you think the primarchs would have?
probably ones we can't imagine, considering it's the far-flung future and they're not even technically speaking english (gothic seems closer to latin, so it might be derived from a romance language? was it romanian that was really similar to latin or am i mixing languages up...?), but here's some stabs at a few that we know a little of like, what their homeworld's phonetics sound like. putting a readmore so if people reblog this it doesnt get horribly long
also im taking this opportunity bc this reminded me that u should ask @horuslupercal about his primarch ocs bc theyre good. hes talked before about his accent headcanons for his ocs and they're very neat. he has a bunch of blogs dedicated to em but im just tagging him on this one just in case ajfndslk
obviously khan has something similar to like, a mongolian accent? i doubt his homeworld speaks Straight-Up Mongolian but given the extremely blatant inspiration we can at least safely assume the phonetics are similar. i don't think the accents are a 1:1 match but it's obviously the closest thing. i unfortunately know very little about mongolian so i can't elaborate more but it probably sounds real nice
leman probably has like. gruff norse accent-ish. fairly predictable. i feel like he kind of mumbles his vowels? he probably turns more vowels E-shaped than he should, and he also treats j's kind of like an additional vowel. i dunno if my mental image is getting across. i also think he has like a little, is there an english word to describe when people have a 'tonada'? like there's a little melody with how they speak? their sentences go up or down in places english doesn't mark as going up or down, i feel like leman has a little of that. but he speaks fairly flatly so it's not always noticeably, just when he's being cheery
also, there's this thing english does where it's not spoken, like, flatly? i dunno how to describe it but whenever i speak english i feel like i have a spoonful of mashed potatoes in my mouth, it's like i'm talking around the roof of my mouth or like, using more obscure bits of my mouth to speak -- it's what leads a lot of people who speak like, spanish for example, to struggle with english accent pronounciation, i dunno if you know what i'm talking about. i feel like several primarchs probably struggle with that? sanguinius, for one, but i also think fulgrim might struggle with it? only a little bc i'm projecting. especially with vowels, i feel like chemos has reasonably similar consonants to english, but has more predictable/flatter (so to speak) vowels. other primarchs i think might struggle with this: dorn, maybe angron and ferrus but in a less romance and more greek kind of way
not sure if this counts as an accent, but i feel like konrad's voice is like, very easily placeable? he speaks kind of flatly like young kids do, i think some adults do this also but i mostly see it in younger kids, where they kind of speak flat and rushed because they haven't yet kind of intuited a sort of conversation rhythm? there's definitely fancier words for this but i'm thinking about the monster truck tom cardy song. because his voice is kind of deep and hissy and in general sounds as vadery as a you can sound without 12 kilos of plastic and metal upon ye, this isn't immediately noticeable unless you're paying attention, but it's there
ferrus also has that whole "voice being kind of flat" thing and i feel like oftentimes he does modulate his voice to indicate emotion but he modulates it for kind of The Wrong Emotion? he has a tendency for acting madder than he actually is, or like, like he gets very explosively mad but he doesn't hold grudges or anything, and i feel like that gets reflected in him sounding very mad, which to most people means long term mad, but no he's just intense. being an iron hand back in the day meant dealing with mild rejection sensitivity problems because your dad was just harsh and didn't quite know it. <- actually borderline canon
konrad also. i cant explain it but like. the primarchs are british, konrad is bri'ish
i am entirely too tired to think of more thoughts. i will elaborate more in the future
also corvus corax is really good at imitating accents so he never has an accent. this too

hi i don’t think pan ppl are transphobic, just because bi ppl can be attracted to 2+ genders and pan are attracted to all doesn’t mean pan ppl or bi ppl are transphobic. i deal w panphobic things anytime anyone mentions pansexuality and i really thought your blog would be safe from that. i'm pan and don’t use bi bc i recognize i'd be attracted to someone regardless of gender identity as long as i find them attractive (and this has nothing to do w seeing trans ppl as a dif gender), if they're 1/
this is a long post & i want ppl to have the option 2 skip it so i’m putting it under a readmore; above all else i’m so thankful that you sent me these asks and deeply sorry that i rb’d something that made you feel unsafe on my blog. i agree with you; i don’t think bi or pan people are inherently transphobic and i’m really sorry i implied that with that post!
2/ if they ID as demiboy or demigirl, or genderfluid or anything else that isn't binary, then i really don’t care. i'm not saying bi ppl can’t feel the same since i said bi people are attracted to 2+ genders or all, but pan is rooted in the emphasis of all gender identities. yes theres a lot of overlap but just... i'm hurt that you'd rb smth like that, i understand the last line of its root in transphobia but being gay/straight and so many other things have issues that clash w other LGBT+ IDs
3/ if anything, i've dealt with internalized panphobia and homophobia, i just never felt comfortable with saying i was bi, not because it was "boring" or "binary" but bc everyone would just assume i was attracted to guys and women which was never the case and saying i was pan allowed for me to show that i knew that there are more than 2 gender identities and that i was attracted to all of them
hi its the 3 pt ask anon and its like i completely get why bi ppl would be upset w pan ppl but its just so hard when both are oppressed and one of the most common arguments is like: we aren't seen so we have to be seen first before you try to get into this too. i get why biphobia exists but the same biphobia exists for pan ppl. so many ppl say you're just straight bc of a het relationship or you're just bi then. or the whole theres only two genders argument. and its like i'm as open to dating
5?/ anyone. i genuinely do not care about whichever gender they ID as since i just find ppl attractive for being attractive. and bi ppl can be the same. there is a LOT of overlap and i'm not going to dismiss any worries or concerns. all i know is that the pan community i've surrounded myself with to find love in my sexuality and community have constantly explained that theres overlap but it depends to the person and neither sexuality is transphobic so i try to never overstep or invalidate either
but thank you for listening, so many ppl just invalidate pan voices who try to put both bi and pan ppl into view while acknowledging how theres overlap but theres a difference. its hard feeling invalidating when all i (and others) do is be as inclusive as possible and try to never overstep. i listen to others worries like you do and i've learned so much from your blog and your rbs which i appreciate. it was just hard seeing panphobia & biphobia when i've tagged both to filter the words out
8?? sorry i lost count/ ty again for listening
hi and again just. thank you, for sending me these. i’ve privated the post for now, because i don’t want to hurt anybody but i also don’t want to avoid accountability 4 hurtful actions; i’d most like to delete the post but probably only will if you’re ok with that. and if i ever rb something that includes biphobia or panphobia i’ll do my best to always tag them.
and again i’m so sorry to have rb’d a hurtful post especially bc that runs so opposite to what i want to be doing with this blog & i know that when i’ve found something hurtful shared in spaces i viewed as safe it’s somehow hurt a lot worse than when i’ve encountered hurtful attitudes in places i was expecting it.
in retrospect the phrasing on that post was Not kind, & didn’t convey the nuance i read into it. my baseline assumption of both bi and pan people is that neither group is inherently transphobic; both identities have extremely similar experiences and my perspective on different lgbtq+ identities in general is that our strength is in solidarity and isolating/separating can be really dangerous to the lgbtq+ community’s ability to thrive and work on making the world better and safer for us all.
i’m really glad that you’ve found love and support within the pan community and i have all the respect and admiration in the world for my bi and pan siblings in the lgbtq+ community! being able to find folks who share your identity and to find pride in yourself together is so healing and important and i’m so glad for the times i’ve experienced that in my life as well.
you’re right that all communities do have issues with transphobia, and i normally wouldn’t join in on other identity’s in-community conversations; i thought about that when reblogging the post earlier but i do my best to rb posts asking people to examine if their beliefs and identity might be formed on transphobic assumptions when it comes to all labels and that’s why i did originally rb. i do my best to rb a lot of posts asking wlw to examine potentially transphobic ideas they might hold, because i’m an afab nonbinary wlw and so regardless of the fact that i’m not cis, i have a lot more privilege than trans women do in wlw spaces and i know i need to be doing what i can to make wlw spaces safe for trans women & girls.
and the post i rb’d did just have pretty shitty & confrontational wording, which i didn’t think about when rb’ing it. i’m sorry again for that!
my reasoning in rb’ing that post was the same as when i rb posts asking wlw to examine their views; not that everyone of the groups in question are inherently shitty in some way, but that we all could use reminders to reflect sometimes and that occasionally people will be misinformed or have a shitty view/shitty views - but that that’s not the norm. i also felt more ok rb’ing this post bc i for a very long time id’d as bi, and my attraction as a lesbian still is to women and nonbinary people who don’t feel misgendered by the attraction of a lesbian; some people would call me bi for that, but it’s a common lesbian experience. i really relate to what you said about choosing pan because it really clearly sends the message that you’re attracted to people regardless of gender, bc i chose lesbian as a label bc it sends the message that i’m Not attracted to men! it’s about how i want people to see me.
my reading of the post was connected to experiences i had with some pretty shitty transphobic ex coworkers; they didn’t know i wasn’t cis, but a number of my coworkers at the time were bi. transphobia/biphobia tw for the rest of this paragraph/ the ex coworkers were pan and they adamantly told me/other coworkers that bisexuality was attraction to men and women whereas pansexuality was attraction to men, women, and trans people. my assumption based off of them wasn’t that pan people are transphobic/that pan as an identity is inherently transphobic, but that they as individuals sucked and were transphobic & biphobic?
that experience does touch on what the post was about though, i think. since the bi manifesto written in 1990 “official” definitions of bisexuality have been stating that bi doesn’t just mean attraction to men and women, and that there are more than 2 genders; it’s society’s biphobia that causes people to think that bisexuality isn’t inherently inclusive of more than 2 genders/inherently inclusive of trans people. its clear to me that you know there’s overlap in the communities and that you’re not transphobic and again that’s my baseline assumption of pan or bi people! ik that stinkers are always the exception in communities.
i rb’d the post because i think self reflection on internalized bs is good, and i didn’t realize how confrontational & potentially shitty the post was; i’m really sorry that i rb’d it and made my blog feel unsafe & i’m going to do my best to be more thoughtful in the future. i hope that me sharing why i rb’d it doesn’t come across as an excuse, either; i’m just hoping knowing my intentions might help w/ the experience.
