I swear I am totally not biased when I say that I'll side with Shu's headcanon of Lightning being very into singing and then getting caught doing so and being good at doing so while putting up Christmas decorations. Okay. Maybe a LITTLE bit biased.

But I am NOT biased when I say that he and Mater BOTH do it and they have a habit of starting a lyric and waiting for the other to give them the next one so they can duet the rest. It's adorable, but it drives the town crazy just as much.

Red always puts something happy and festive on the old Stanley statue. Some years it's a wreath. Some years he has a red glowing nose. Sometimes he gets little antlers. It's a nice nod to his love for the holidays, and it makes Lizzie so happy.

Finn and Leland used to play that silly Hide the Pickle game on Christmas morning, except with very ramped up stakes because they loved a challenge. Since his passing, Finn's now dangerously taught both Mater and Holley to play. Mater tries his best, though he's not great at hiding them and he's lucky at best with finding, and Holley, well...let's just say that she did such a good job her first time trying to hide it that they all gave up looking, and ended up having to buy another one to use.

Every year, Dusty goes out and puts up tacky Christmas lights for the year. And every year, he and Chug get tangled in it. And every year until 2013, Dottie was tasked with helping them out. Since 2013, every year she puts it up to Skipper and Sparky to do instead. Never fails.

You ever heard of something called a "Drive thru nativity scene"? I've been to one, once. You sit in your car and drive through a live reenactment of the towns and the nativity, and you pay fake coin taxes at certain stops, and dad almost got put in fake jail by Roman soldiers because he wouldn't pay those taxes anyways the point is they have one that they do at Radiator Springs now and over the years they have garnered a lot of traffic. Sally and Lightning only did the Mary and Joseph bit one year, and it ended in Joseph being run over by fans and backing up the line, so he lent his role to someone else (it changes every year)

During his reign over the Lodge, Cad Spinner went above and beyond for Christmas light displays during the holidays, which ate up the electric bill for one and left a fire hazard for another. When Jammer took over his position, though, the annual display had become wildly popular, so - with the assistance and better pay of the Piston Peak fire and rescue - they kept the event running. So long as Ryker stayed close by.

The Smokejumpers pulled an Epic Christmas Prank on - or rather with - Cabbie one year. He had no idea what everyone was giggling about, as they boarded up to drop over a fire. And then later, Maru held up a photo he got of him while he was taking off with them. He rolled his eyes at the sight of the bright red "ELF BACKUP" sign written across his hatch.

Blade's not really a Christmas guy, but, there's one thing he enjoys during the Christmas season, and that's peppermints. He's fucking addicted. Maru will catch him swiping them from the little bowl Patch puts out in the mess hall, and they go through a whole bag in less than two weeks. Addicted I tell you.

Specifically in humanized land, Cabbie has whittled - while Windlifter paints - simplified wooden nutcracker statues, reflecting the features of each of the Smokejumpers. There's five on the mantle in the mess hall for them, and another shelf that holds a handful more for the jumpers past.

Yeahh. Oo what if he also goes to Cabbie for advice and stuff when he's around the base cause Skipper ain't there. And they just like hanging around each other having small convos. I wish we had more of them together in the movie honestly, they barely interacted but we know that Cabbie cared for him, especially when he was brought back to base after crashing :'D

Random Planes Headcanons :

Years later, Dusty does retire from a racer and goes into Firefighting fulltime. Yes, he loves racing, but he found out he loves helping people more.

He still stays up to date with all his many many other racing series he follows.

Ishani and Ripslinger were exes and used to date, but broke up when Ripslinger became a huge asshole.

Nick Loopin' Lopez is Filipino 🇵🇭. Why? Because I said so. Also because the name Lopez is very common here.

Blade and Nick were definitely dating behind the scenes.

As humans, Nick is around 5'6, and Blade is around 5'11. Nick is the bigger flirt of the two.

Nick's tragic passing broke Blade, and it took him an entire year to get the strength to leave his house and become a firefighter. So many tears were shed that year, and Blade spent most of it empty and alone.

In an au where nobody died, Nick went into a coma for nearly a year. Once he recovered, he and Blade quit acting and pursued their careers in firefighting, and eventually got married. His paint scheme would also be Blue, in contrast to Blade's Red.

Dipper eventually chilled out a bit after Dusty told her how uncomfortable he was with her behavior, and she makes an effort to do better. She's still a huge fangirl, but she's taking steps in respecting her crush's (crushes' (yeah, it's not just Dusty out there)) bounderies.

Cabbie is literally the dad of the entire group and I love him for that.

The Smokejumpers are practically famous on instagram and tiktok. Their posts consists of stunts and pranks. Blade does not approve.

Dusty and Chug were best friends since they were kids. Dottie's family moved into Propwash Junction when they were in their mid teens, and the three are pratically siblings.

Dusty was an orphan who was taken in by a family of farmers.

Ironically, Dusty is allergic to corn. He found that out the hard way.

Sparky and Skipper accidently stumbled into Propwash Junction one rainy night, and decided this is where they'll stay.

Windlifter does some woodcarving when he's not busy. He's made a lot of really cool stuff.

Maru has a podcast/yt channel where he tinkers with stuff while telling some stories about what goes on in HQ. Of course, he makes sure to not name drop, 'else he wouldn't hear the end of it from Blade.

I can't stop thinking about the 'if Maru had a YouTube channel' scenario based off @askthecarscharacters post. Which is here.

While most of the time, Maru uses a tripod, occasionally Blade steps in as camera man. Blade doesn't mind being behind the camera every now and then. Blade supports Maru in his video-making endeavors. Blade's pretty much the most viable option for being back up camera man. None of the Smokejumpers are allowed around the camera. Cabbie is too grumpy. Windlifter is too Windlifter. (He ends up filming nature.) And Dipper turns it into her vlog.

While we don't see Blade in Maru's videos we sometimes hear him. Sometimes Blade and Maru start bickering like an old married couple mid video. Maru could edit it out 'cause despite his age he's actually sort of in tune with technology. But he leaves it in there for humorous purposes. And it is funny.

Old Mayday likes to watch these videos from Propwash Junction. (Dusty probably shows him.) He likes to see what his old pals are up to. It brings him joy to see Blade and Maru doin' ok and making their way in the world.

Age is confusing in the World Of Cars universe and I wanna rant a bit.

I'm currently in the very, very early pre-planning and research phase for a Planes fic idea I want to write, and I decided to try and do some calculation for character ages. Not really plot relevant, but a good frame of reference to have none the less.

I decided to try and figure out Cabbie's age first, since he's presumably the oldest.

I always thought the idea that he was apart of the Korean war (and by extension Vietnam war) was just very popular fanon, but no! It's actually mentioned in the Meet the Planes book.

The Korean war took place from 1950 to 1953, meaning that, during 2014, the time the movie was set in/released, he could be around 64-61 years old assuming he was made (born? manufactured?) explicitly for the war.

This causes problems for me! In the canon cars universe, if I'm not forgetting anything, it is unknown whether or not characters are just...brought into this world as adults or if they have a childhood like real people. It also could be very possible that cars characters live longer then humans on account of them being vehicles.

Even then, I want to make this fic a human AU, meaning I have to slap on an extra 18 years to make it actually possible for a human Cabbie to join the military.

This means he'd be about 82-79 years old.

I'm all for having old characters in my fic, but Cabbie is also an aerial firefighter and I don't know if they'd let someone that old still work.

I'm just stuck between a rock and a hard place, haha. Do I keep the fact he was in the Korean war, the one piece of real backstory we have for him, and just kind of wave away the age issue? Do I retcon the Korean war stuff and make him be much younger, thus making it more plausible he's still apart of the team, but removing a large part of his character both canon (which, to be fair, isn't a lot) and fanon wise? I honestly don't know what's the best option tbh

EIther way, Cabbie is a really cool characters based off a cool, old plane model and thus causes me MANY issues because of that old plane model.
