camilabilly vs daisybilly discourse actually surprised me at first because when i read the book i thought the point was that feelings are complicated and life is complicated and billy and camila could have a healthy loving relationship and billy and daisy could be insanely good matches for each other as well. and camilabilly were together and daisybilly werent and couldnt and it was just all very sad but its a logical ending. u dont get to love in concrete terms

uh, okay. Billy Dunne relapsed and cheated on his wife multiple times. Billy Dunne back to the life he sworn he wouldn't live it. why is that awful as it sounds?
DJATS it's an adaptation and in the book, the original source, Billy Dunne is a recovered addicted in his 70's remembering his rock star days and how those days conflicted with the man he wanted to be. Was him perfect? Jesus, no. That man was garbage. BUT he has the benefit of trying.
Show Billy was stripped of all the grace that made Book Billy complex, becoming a shallow version of himself with no depth, moral or control. Who was Billy Dunne?
Billy Dunne fought relapsing with everything he had. He made pancakes to his daughters (yes he has three, which he chose to have with his wife) and carried his wife to bed. Billy Dunne fell in love with Daisy and burned with her. They created art and chaos together. She was his twin flame and he loved her, completely. He never needed it to kiss her or sleep with her. In fact, that was the main appeal to them: he loved daisy, not her body, as all the others men in her life. Not that he wasn't attracted to her. But it wasn't that to him. He also loved Camila, his wife and soulmate, deeply. He broke her but spend all his days trying to live up to the man he thought she deserved. Camila had faith on him and looked at him seeing more than his mistakes and sins. Because she loved him, he survived and achieved his dreams. Because he loved her, she found strength to forgive.
Billy overcame addiction, which it isn't easy. Billy broke generational trauma and gave his brother a mirror of a man who could be a example of father and husband. Billy loved two women and while yes, it broke all the three of them, he did his best to be there for Camila while trying to show Daisy that she deserved so much better. Camila also shows Daisy underserved kindness. As someone whose people never had faith in, Camila's act of faith saves Daisy Jones.
We all can understand that tv shows were never keen of complex relationships and feelings, specially romantic ones, right? They would never translate the depth of Billy's love for Camila or they would never show the depth of Billy's affection for daisy, or so they thought. So they chose one of those. But in this choice, they actually stoled everything that made Billy Dunne be Billy Dunne. They stoled his strength, his loyalty, his sense of duty and his layered, complex heart.
Billy was egocentric, selfish, rude and cruel as he was in the source material. But that's all he is. Show Billy has no redeemable quality. He humiliate and abuses Camila while put Daisy in a position no woman should ever find herself in it. Hell, show fans can't even talk about Billy outside his relationship with Daisy, because they would have to acknowledge that he's empty. And to think they had Sam Claffin, who would absolutely delivery the most wonderful, heartbreaking, emotional performance while playing such complex, flawed character.

i think i've finally figured out what exactly i found so deeply flawed in the daisy jones and the six show, to the extent that i couldn't finish it at all.
in the book, the daisy-billy-camila was never a love triangle. calling them a love triangle insinuates that there was a competition between daisy and camila for billy - a narrative that the show tried so hard to push that it sacrificed all the naunces of their characters in exchange.
book!billy was always going to choose camila. he cheated on her multiple times, yes, and was a fuckup in every sense of the word. but he had the sole redeeming quality that he was trying. trying to be the man that camila deserved, the man his daughters deserved. trying to break the cycle of abuse/neglect his father had inflicted on him. and that was why camila stayed for him, because she knew he loved her above all and was never going to leave her for daisy, as she says when she confronts daisy in the book.
show!billy has all the terrible qualities of his book counterpart, but none of the 'trying'. none of things that made him likable, if only to camila. even daisybilly show fans can't talk about his character beyond them as a couple.
and camila and daisy had such a beautiful dynamic in the books. camila viewed daisy as the twin soul of the man she loved, and in that sense she loved her too. she wanted the best for daisy always, and it showed. it showed in the way she spoke to daisy - never as if she blamed her for billy, the way she cared so deeply for daisy's heartache she wanted daisy to shield herself from it. show!camila never displays that nuance in the face of billy between them the way book!camila did, and that utterly changed/destroyed the daisy, billy and camila's relationship for drama?
and all of this in context of the ending makes it seem that daisy told billy to go fulfill his obligations to his wife, like camila was a duty for him uphold begrudgingly. and aging the characters down ruins the book's narrative that billy loved his wife his whole life, and not just until she died and he went back to daisy. it doesn't show with the same extent of the book the dedication, the love between the two of them, and the respect daisy held for that. in doing so, it does all three of their characters a fucking injustice.

My DJATS au stuff (Unwritten)
Daisy's love is one-sided,as well as Eddie's.
No cheating at all.
Rumors about Daisy/Billy and Camila/Eddie that are quickly shut down
Billy goes to rehab when Camila's 5-6 months pregnant,so he's there for Julia's birth, but is afraid to pick her up at first and nearly walks out of the delivery room
On the first tour,a groupie forcibly kisses Billy, and he feels guilty about it.
Daisy and Eddie confess their one-sided love for Billy and Camila, respectively,in 1975
Daisy marries Nicky in 1976, quickly divorces him, moves on to Eddie a few months later
Karen and Graham adopt a daughter in 1980
Camila dies in 2007,instead of the 90s
10. Possibly more Camilly smut? I mean, they're literally married. They've canonically had s*x. There's Daisybilly smut, but nothing for Camilly
11. Susana and Maria exist
12. Lisa gets more characterization
Also,in a modern AU,I might give karengraham a biological kid/ maybe have them get married. What do y'all think? (It's fanfic,so it doesn't have to make sense Canon wise.)

GAH OKAY so I’m doing some light healthy re-reading of DJATS and I’ve realized why I’m not the biggest fan of show!Camila/Billy, and it’s honestly because of the fundamental way in which show!Camila’s character has been changed.
book!Camila had faith in Billy, always. She accepted him when he came back from rehab, and was committed to making a family with him, always and forever. I read this line from the book and it totally struck me as a core of book!Camila’s character, her love for Billy and her desire for a family with him, and her total commitment to making that happen for herself and him. Billy cheats, falls into a drug wormhole, misses his daughters birth, and when he comes back, Camila lets it go.
CAMILA: I think you have to have faith in people before they earn it. Otherwise it’s not faith, right?
show!Camila doesn’t do that. She didn’t even say those words, so I get the sense that show!Camila loves her daughter, on some level loves Billy, wants a family… but doesn’t 100% want that family with Billy. (Eddie, on the other hand… *cough cough*).
So, essentially I think it’s easier for me to dive into DaisyBilly and CamilaEddie as opposed to CamilaBilly, because honestly show!Camila doesn’t seem 100% convinced, deep deep down, that she wants Billy all the way.

My favorite thing about book!Billy is that he was there with Camila and the kids during the day and then wrote, recorded, and practiced at night with the band. In turn, Camila stayed up to wait for him every night. They loved each other so deeply and there wasn’t enough of that in the show.

agrees with all you said about billydaisy in your post, show crew really did cami dirty do you ship billycamilla?
oh, i'm camila girlie, so i can't even begin to explain how they didn't do justice to book!camila. so many people compare camila to tracy, the mother from how i met your mother, and i couldn't agree more! it's like she was present in the story only for billy to get together with daisy in the end. yes, it's pretty clear in book as well that billy and daisy may try reconnecting again in the end, but the main difference between those endings is the things that led to them. book!billy was the one who chose camila, he was always choosing her, he dedicated his life to that choice. show!billy was making out with daisy until daisy mentioned his wife. again, it foreshadows that camila is not his choice, she's his obligation. book!billy was many things. i hate book!billy, he's selfish ego-maniac who doesn't appreciate so many good things in his life, but book!billy was still better than show!billy. cause he makes a choice, he doesn't let anyone [and specifically daisy] make that choice for him. i don't ship camila with billy, i don't ship daisy/billy as well. i just don't think that those messy couples could be "shipped" at all. their relationships are about soul's connections which is think is way about ordinary shipping

y'know I really wish people would start tagging negativity with the proper tags in the djats side of tumblr. people are complaining about how the show did this and that but they never add tags to be blocked or filtered. I've seen 5 different posts about negativity about a ship (mostly in regards to the show adaptation but some about the book) thats tagged just with the ship tag and without any sort of anti- something.
Y'know what, I watched the show and I bought the book, but the way people are going about criticizing the show without the proper tags is making me VERY annoyed. I dont really feel like picking up the book now, if it means I'm gonna end up like that :/
