Does anyone know what the reference to Anne Marie in showtime is about? At first I wasn’t sure if it was about the singer or not but now I’m just confused 🤷‍♀️

I think we were all wondering this when the song came out but I don’t think anyone decided on a theory! But Van does put allsorts of random stuff in his songs doesn’t he? I guess she could be like someone working on his team or something - kind of like when he wrote the song Emily. I really don’t know! Anyone got any ideas?

I was so confused by the typo on the lyrics that were originally put up on YouTube as it looked like he was singing about someone called ‘Mel’ as well but the space was just in the wrong place 😂

The first song from this album I heard: Probably 7 lmfao, again with the UK Dark Fruits Indie™ playlists.

Do I own the album?: Again, no :/

My favourite song: OUTSIDE! That one fucking rips live, it’s my second favourite CATB album closer after Tyrants off The Balcony.

(Honorable mention to Postpone, no one seems to even mention that song on here? It’s an underrated gem, imo.)

My least favourite song: Emily, but that doesn’t mean I hate it! I’ll still listen to it.

A song I didn’t like at first, but now do: It took me a bit to warm up to Twice, I thought it was annoying at first but as I started listening to it more, I like it!

A song I used to like, but now don’t: Soundcheck but that’s ONLY because my dad recently told me he almost got into a car crash listening to that song LMAO this one’s just out of spite, you can pretty much ignore this as I still adore Soundcheck as a song! The video too… 😵‍💫

Van being so chaotic and naive and excited on interviews, you could see his eyes shining and he was a kid with his dreams just came true. Always melts my heart seeing him talking because I’m his age by that time and is so sweet seeing him so excited talking about make the thing he loves the most for the people he love the most. Also I can’t believe how such a sweet boy could write that thirsty tweets my lord 🙈. I love the video tours also they should have keep doing them. I also love the Steve Lamacq interview and the video explaining the name of the band with the artwork of Rango. And making trend the stripped clothing, I was forgetting it

GUYS! I have so many CATB thoughts in my head that I can’t handle myself right now! I don’t even know where to start!

I know I’ve been MIA for about 2.5 weeks and I’ve got updates to fics headed your way, but right now I want to do a deep dive into their return! Asks are opened, and I’m considering making a TikTok series out of this.

My first thought are the postcards - back to the graft again HAS GOT to mean something. Part of me wonders if it’s a lyric, or Van just saying they’re getting back to it? Or both?!?!

Okay, clearly you guys don’t know FIDLAR lol. Their lyrics are about their experiences of being a junkie/drug addict, an alcoholic, mental health & recovery. Both their frontman and the band have been very open about it. It’s not insensitive and no secret. That’s their entire image lol and fans love ‘em for being open about it. They’re all in a much healthier place now tho! - LA anon

it's funny to think of me as a manager, but come on…

One single paragraph was enough to encourage me to take that step. I sat down and wrote "Helter Skelter" in one sitting, deciding that it would be the loudest, roughest and dirtiest in the history of The Beatles... I wanted to create something anti-social; something that we had never done before. I used the Helter skelter attraction in the lyrics as a metaphor to describe the disintegrating band. "When I get down, I get to the top of the slide / Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride .." The story of the fall of the Roman Empire was on my mind. It was a song about disintegration and decay.

Hi! I saw the question about Van continuing under the catb name that an anon sent you and made me think about something. When what i call the #speculationcrisis about what was happening with the band went out of control here, with everybody looking for info and facts in the most remotes places, i saw someone saying that maybe the band was obligated to release a new album due to a contract. This is what i remember: according the info this person found catb released the two last albums with a different label with they launched the first one and usually contracts go signed for 3. So this leaves the contract broken and may cause legal problems.

My theory is that maybe Van possibly release something with the catb name (because of all stuff of Sardy’s post) not because sentimentalism or being use to, but for let’s call it fulfil that contract. Because for me it would be weird too if he keeps the name of the band but with a whole new crew. Besides i think remember he said in an interview that they already have stuff for the fourth album so he maybe idk, recycled it? I don’t really know if he can release something that the four made as they all quit.

But i don’t really know this just popped in the back of my mind.

i think you might be onto something!! this really does seem like the most likely scenario, perhaps he’ll create one last album under the catb name before moving onto other projects. it won’t be the same without the rest of the guys though!!

i know at some point in 2019-2020 they started recording the 4th album, so maybe he can re-record the same lyrics with different instrumentation? i remember with the balance they said some of the material on it was old stuff they had written in the past. intermission was one of those songs and imo you can tell—it really stands out from the rest of the album! in a good way! the balance era stuff has a very distinct feel to it that intermission didn’t totally align with, but the end result worked. i heard b*lly b*bby took a lot of songs he wrote with him when he left/was expelled, so they’ve already had to deal with that before and overcame it.

i would love to hear some of the old stuff vans been hoarding or really anything at this point! i wonder if van got up to writing during the pandemic and i loved seeing how his writing has evolved throughout his career, i can’t even imagine what his songs would be like now! honestly i thought some of the balance was kind of corny/try hard even though i really liked the album on the whole.

My favourite song: Fuck… it’s either between Fallout or Tyrants for me! Those have to be in my top 5 favourite CATB songs for sure. The buildup towards the end for both of those songs are amazing.

My least favourite song: Business… I’m sorry! It can get a bit annoying if I’m not in the right mood for it. It’s great live though!
