Part of me is hoping the cause of the earthquakes is Groudon because it's so classic PMD but I also logically know that's almost definitely not it. I'm very curious to see what IS it though!!
I also like the idea of an Inteleon sheriff a whole lot. The only pokemon that can most accurately do wild-west shootouts deserves to be a sheriff in a desert mining town.
It is very classic PMD! No spoilers on whether or not that’s the direction this arc takes, though. :3c
Ha! Yes!!! Originally Calder was a bisharp, but I couldn’t resist the allure of a Pokemon who’s literally perfect for wild west shootouts. 😂

Last song: tulsa's last magician by willi carlisle, because apparently it's a Songs That Take Me From Zero To Crying in sixty seconds flat kind of morning
Currently watching: survivor 💀 i have a survivor personality now. it's spouse's fault.
Currently reading: i just (JUST) finally finished Pontypool Changes Everything after putting off the last fifteen pages for a century. i'm different now. i Was reading The Silent Cry: Mysticism and Resistance by Dorothee Soelle but idk, i'm struggling a little bit to get into it. i feel like the timing isn't quite right, so when i'm done chewing on pontypool i might switch to waiting for god by simone weil. or one of the 10,000 papers from Academia i have saved for "later." my next fiction book will probably be. piranesi? or moby dick, the whale weekly folks look like they're having fun.
Current obsession: i just started trying in earnest to play pathologic again so if that goes well i expect it to take over my life for the next 3-6 months. otherwise. knitting and crochet. half my wips are in time out for reasons of Need To Wash Them but check out this lace scarf i'm working on

@celepeace well "purebred" anyway, the craigslist backyard breeder situation down here is really gnarly, and anyone registered with the AKC is required to offer to take their dogs back. i've seen some really malformed ''french bulldogs'' that do not resemble anything you'd see in a proper club. for health reasons alone i'd say a shelter mutt is a better gamble than a shelter purebred (tho if i was seriously concerned about vet bills i'd do a proper search for good vetted purebred breeders)
but yeah a small shorthair dog is a small shorthair dog, we're drowning in little mexican street dog type creatures. i can search petfinder for house trained adults under 20 pounds who are guaranteed good with cats and get 60 results. i don't see any reason not to take advantage!

There is some evidence mounting on the subject of spiders not actually using wind to disperse as babies! They might use electricity, meaning they don't glide or ride the air, and depending on definition you could legitimately call it "flying"

That's incredible thanks for sharing!

Around when did shelters, rescues, and breeders start asking for veterinary information of their clients for recommendations? I've been looking around local humane societies, breeders, and rescues for awhile now for a new dog, after my old girl sadly passed last year. All of them require you provide the phone number of your regular veterinarian for a short interview, if you had pets prior to then. My old dog was almost 17, so none of my family looked at any of that between when we got her and when we had to put her down. This seems to be a new thing that arose during those 17 years.
I think it's a good thing, and a good way to get a clear, unbiased picture of an adopting family's standard of care. I'm just curious when this came about. I've heard the adopting process got more stringent during covid due to the sheer increase in demand for pets; did that become common practice recently, or is it older than covid?
vet-and-wild here.
I think it's sort of been slowly becoming more of a thing over the past decade or so. I don't have a great memory of what we had to do when my family adopted our childhood pets but all of my more recent adoptions (and breeder purchases) required it. Although it's a bit weird for me cuz I just write my own name. I don't think any of them called, but again, I think I'm probably a bit of a special circumstance. I remember for sure that I had to write down my vet's contact info when I adopted Ravioli (ferret) in vet school in 2019. Pretty sure I had to provide that info when I adopted my cat in 2015 too.

I hate the double standard in fashion so much. A skinny person wears a graphic t shirt and jeans/shorts and they're called stylishly casual. I do it and I feel like a lazy slob who can't be bothered to dress myself nicely. Fat people get criticized and called gross for wearing casual clothing but skinny people get compliments. I hate this.
Hey friend,
This is a very prevalent issue for many, so at least you're not alone (if that can be comforting).
I do believe the internet is to blame somewhat, you get bombarded with beautiful bombshells and ""perfect"" bodies achieved via photo editing programs. Even on Tumblr, the bodies you typically see are taken with fashionable outfits, with good lighting and poses, quippy captions and fun backgrounds. This isn't a knock on Tumblr Fatshion blogs, but always keep in mind how staged it all is.
Fatphobia in fashion is a big big BIG problem, within communities and the overall industry, esp as a fat woman/femme. You're absolutely right, skinny folks get lauded as fashionistas in ugly outfits and fat folks are ignored. Even looking at the notes between skinny fashion and fat fashion shows the disparity; fatshion blogs receive a pitiful amount of likes and even less reblogs (for high caliber posts) compared to mediocre skinny fashion posts.
A fun thing to watch, if you're feeling up to it, are those 'Is it Skinny or Fashion' videos, or other humorous videos!! I love watching YT for some fatshion and fat positivity, off the top of my head Sierra Schultzzie is amazing, Sarah Rae Vargas is wonderful, Carrie Dayton is fun (anyone feel free to rec their own favourites!!)
Also, I know this is hard, but please try and forget others opinions on you and your outfits!!! People that always have something negative to say aren't people you want to associate with!! I used to flat out tell my coworkers it would be a cold day in hell before I'd come to them w fashion advice, obv this won't work for every occasion but always remember you don't have to put up w negative comments about your appearance/body.
I hope this helps!! The best advice is to surround yourself with wonderful fat folks if possible and to not take any shit <3

Hey, if you wanted more of an audience for Humans-B-Gone I would recommend making a post about it on r/awwnverts and/or r/spiders. I believe both of them allow creative content posts and there's definitely an audience for it in those places!
That's a good idea! I just...feel self-conscious promoting my own stuff like that. I know I need to, though.

Would that axe be good for woodsplitting? I can't justify buying something like that unless I can use it for camping.
It might be a bit lightweight for big logs but smaller sticks and stuff sure.

Does your universe have any food crops besides the pokemon berries? Like, do they have any equivalent to cereal grains or other vegetables? I'm sorry if this is something that was already mentioned offhand at some point lol, I'm just wondering if they can make bread.
Yeah, absolutely!!! Berries are just a very prominent snack food so they tend to show up a lot in-story. I don’t know if I’ve ever actually talked about bread or other vegetables in Seekers? Maybe with the veggie hot dogs in Ghatha. Huh. I’ll be sure to throw some more detail in during the next in-story meal!

@celepeace yes and no! the foam itself is non-toxic and water-safe, it's often used when constructing outdoor ponds (you press the nozzle in between rocks and it forms an airtight seal), and i'm using aquarium silicon for the outer coat. but the coco fiber is just pressed into the outer layer and isn't itself sealed, and while it's pretty sturdy it will come free if you give it a good yank. great for frogs and crested geckos and the like but i wouldn't trust it underwater or with vigorous clawing
however! you can use other materials over the foam, the next most common one is tile grout, which finishes to something a little more like concrete. you can then paint and seal it with an acrylic concrete sealant (for heavier duty terrariums), or silicone or epoxy (for underwater). here's a paludarium by @ sunfish-exotics using that technique!

Do spiders get fat when they're gravid? I found a cross orbweaver that I think was female (very small pedipalps) with a fat abdomen like you wouldn't believe. It was also so heavy it couldn't walk on most surfaces unless they were perfectly flat or very porous. It would also fall on its back a lot and be unable to get back up, so I had to help it out a lot as I moved it. It was in a bad place so I moved it but I had to keep catching it cause it would constantly fall out of my hands and I let it grab my finger to right itself when it fell on its back.
I'm hoping it was just gravid and not suffering from ultra spider abdominal cancer or something!
Yes, orbweavers especially get SO DANG ROTUND. Like comically fat. Hopefully that tubby lady can successfully lay some eggs! It is possible, though, that she couldn’t walk because she’s already near death. Hard to say for sure! But orbweavers only live a year and generally die in fall after laying eggs, so that’s all very normal.

How often do you guys get cases of a patient eating something that was NOT food and needing medical intervention as a result, and why is it always Labradors?
vet-and-wild.
Hey sometimes it’s not Labs. It’s pit bulls equally as often!
I see it relatively often, but probably not as often as an ER vet. When I was doing my ER rotation we saw it almost every night. Ferrets are other common culprits.

Idk who else to complain to this about. I ordered a women's LARGE shirt from a band's merch website and it's so small that only skinny ultra-petite women could possibly wear it. It's labeled as a large too, I was not sent an incorrect shirt. It's even too short for me and I'm not tall, I'm 5'6. I don't know wtf to do about this cause it was kinda pricey but I feel like if I complain the company is just gonna say I should have checked the measurement chart on their site and not refund me. It's absolutely ridiculous!! I knew I should have ordered an XL but seeing the size of the actual shirt who knows what the company thinks an XL looks like. The band is Queens of the Stone Age btw.
I had few very similar experience last year, I ordered a size XL and ended up having to give it to my lil sister bc it was MAX size M. That winter I got a thermal shirt that was labeled as XL on the bad, but labeled as L on the shirt. Worst part?? The only part that was Large was the sleeves, which hung 6in lower than the hem of the shirt (!!!!)
Its such an incredibly infuriating experience, but please don't blame yourself!! Even if you had checked the size chart, who's to say they would have had the correct measurements?? They were so careless with their sizing, I wouldn't be shocked
I would contact the company, but only to get a refund. I wouldnt want you to have to deal with any extremely fatphobic BS from a company that doesn't know how sizing works. Maaaybe suggest they market them as a one- size- fits- all so fellow fat babes can steer clear, but only if youre feeling it.
Mod Fatshion <3
