Found something awesome today!!

Screeched to a halt on my drive home from work today to snag this bad boy— an absolutely MASSIVE Calvatia gigantea aka giant puffball. Brought it home and weighed it, and it was literally 12 pounds. Couldn’t believe my luck that it was fresh and white on the inside (showing that it’s safe to eat)!!

Giant puffballs don’t have poisonous lookalikes, the only thing you have to worry about is the color of the inside. If you break it open and it’s clean, pure white, it’s perfect! Very versatile for uses (can basically be a tofu substitute among other things) and it tastes nice just pan fried in butter. If it’s discolored at all or yellow tho, don’t eat it!!

Just be sure it’s the giant kind, since people have been known to mistake young Destroying Angel mushrooms (extremely, fatally poisonous) for puffballs since they start out in a sort of ball under ground, but they’re quite small.

If you’re gonna eat any wild mushrooms do it safely tho!! Educate yourself and always be very careful!!

Wanted to pop in here and apologize for being almost entirely absent for a while.

I have been *incredibly* depressed lately, to the point where it’s almost impossible to do anything other than exactly what I need to do day to day to keep things moving and not a bit more. Work has also been physically demanding, and the heat turns my brain to soup.

Also I’ve been feeling pretty seriously burnt out. I wrote almost my entire mutant!otto fic (plus other works) in a fairly short time considering it’s over 50k words, and I think my writing muse needs a long-ass break. I know I promised y’all an epilogue, and it’ll happen— but not for a little while.

On top of all that, I just haven’t been feeling super inspired to draw lately. I think just overall I need to take a creative break, do some resting, recalibrating, and then hopefully I’ll find the creative muse and wrangle it down again so I can keep making stuff. Until then, I may do a drawing or two, but otherwise I probably won’t be creating a whole lot.

I’ll still be reblogging things, but yeah, I hope y’all who still like my art/writing don’t mind waiting a bit, cause I still have more ideas, they’re just gonna need to simmer for a while before I can make them happen.

On the current events in the US:

I’m wildly stressed and upset by the news rn. It’s really bad. Basically, I can’t even sum up how fucked up things are. The overturning of Roe v. Wade is fucking devastating, and frankly terrifying.

I am sending a soft and gentle and respectful bear hug to every single one of y’all out there who’s dealing with this news and its ramifications right now. I hope y’all can find some comfort and support from your irl friends and family, and if they’re not around, then I’m sending you as much support and love as I can through the interweb💕

I know myself well enough at this point in life to know that submerging my mind entirely into terrifying current events will simply cause me to spiral into an awful place, and it won’t help anyone at all. I’ve found that for my mental health, it’s better for me to spend that energy on devoting myself to the things that I love.

So, I’m going to be posting/rbing to this blog as usual after this.

Please take care of yourselves as best as you can, and continue to stay hydrated/make sure to eat properly if you are able to. Your body is still a machine even when your mind is in chaos, and it still needs its regular maintenance😤🛠

Alright I’m finally gonna address this because it frustrated me enough that it’s been sitting in my drafts for weeks (cw another long and angry ramble about respect and boundaries) ⬇️

This is just… very frustrating. I am an outspoken advocate for curating your internet experience, which means blocking people for any reason (from genuine irritation to just off vibes) if you feel the need to do so. I block empty blogs most of the time cause they annoy me. I’ve blocked people because I disagree with the things they post, or just because the way that they interact with me doesn’t feel great.

Not to sound like a real dick or anything, but I don’t owe any stranger on here anything. If we’ve been friends for a while, I might feel obligated to explain a hard block via DMs (which I have done before and will do again if the situation arises), but other than that, we’re all just strangers on here. If I have blocked you, it’s because I don’t want you to be interacting with my stuff anymore, that’s it.

The fact that this person felt the need to send this to me probably from an entirely separate tumblr, (despite us never having had even a whole conversation), just immediately tells me that they don’t respect my boundaries as a blog or a as person. Long answer short: no, I’m not going to explain specifically why, and I don’t think I need to.

If you’re decent and respectful, I promise I will have absolutely no problem with you. I appreciate y’all who follow me a fucking lot. Y’all have been lovely and kind and sweet to me, and I very much enjoy interacting with y’all.

If you and I don’t know each other at all and you do find yourself blocked here, though, I would prefer if you simply respect that boundary I’ve established and move on.

I’ve worked hard as fuck to try to have a good time on here, including being respectful and decent to others as best I can, but doing that work involves setting and respecting boundaries. I’m just an anxious human person existing in this wild hellscape, and I’m more than happy to do the complicated work of communicating with friends about conflict if need be, but I’ve also learned to be pretty hard and fast about those boundaries, and it’s helped me a lot.

Once again, to all y’all who follow me, appreciate what I do, and respect me (and also have gotten through all of this rambling):

I appreciate y’all endlessly. Please know that you boost my artistic self esteem and brighten my days routinely, and that means a heck of a lot to me❤️
