QSMP LANGUAGE DAY‼️ HAVE SOME FILIPINO* TRANSLATIONS NOW THAT OUR LANGUAGE HAS BEEN ADDED :D
*Note: This will be one dialect, which is the most common dialect, Tagalog. People tend to say Tagalog = Filipino, but it's just really the most used dialect
Hi/Hello = Magandang Araw/Umaga/Gabi
We have no informal way of greetings other than just saying Hi or Hello, so we say Good day/Morning/Evening
Until next time = Hanggang sa susunod
No informal or formal way of saying bye other than just saying Bye
The Federation = Ang Federasyon
No direct translation of Federation, we change spellings sometimes of English words to fit
Eggs = Mga Itlog ▪︎ Egg = Itlog
Plural words tend to have "mga" before the noun, we don't usually add s or es at the end
The Code = Ang Kode
Same as above, change of spelling. We don't have c's or some letters in our alphabet so it's ABKD (Ah-Ba-Ka-Da) <- ABCs
Mom = Nanay ▪︎ Dad = Tatay
Child = Anak ▪︎ Grandchild = Apo ▪︎ Sibling = Kapatid ▪︎ Niece/Nephew = Pamangkin
Our language doesn't usually gender words, so daughter or son would just boil down to "anak"
Eldest [Child] = Panganay ▪︎ Youngest [Child] = Bunso
Usually people will address others or kids as "bunso" which is youngest. If we finally get Filo streamers and they call their eggs or other eggs "panganay" or "bunso", there you go!
He/She/They (singular) = Siya ▪︎ They (plural) = Sila
Sure = Sige ▪︎ Yes = Oo ▪︎ No = Hindi ▪︎ Not allowed = Bawal
*Bawal is like saying "you're not allowed". "Bawal kumain" is "You're not allowed to eat"
Gossip = Chika/Chismis
Motherfucker = Putang Ina
Some informal spelling would have it together as "putangina" or slang as "tangina"
Shit/Fuck = Puta
Idiot = Bobo ▪︎ Stupid = Gago ▪︎ Dumb = Tanga
These are slang terms or more rather, insults, for being an idiot. Do this what you will with Foolish's name
Girlfriend/Boyfriend = Kasintahan
Love = Mahal
This can also mean expensive
Duck = Bibe ▪︎ Rabbit = Kuneho
Money = Pera
If you were to say the currency of money, we use Pesos (peh-sos) <- instead of pay-sos
The Island = Ang Isla
We hope you enjoy the Island = Umaasa kami na masiyahan ka sa Isla
For informal use, say "Sana na masiyahan ka sa Isla".
Some Slang:
Sana all = [If] only all
Used when others have something that you want. "Sana all may girlfriend :-(" = "If only [everyone] had a girlfriend :-("
Mamser/s = Ma'am + Sir/s
Slang for addressing all, like ladies and gentleman but in slang
Bading = Gay
Not actual slang translation, but feel free to use this LOL + also a lot of queer filos (me) like to just say bading a lot LMFAO
KKB (Kanyang Kanyang Bayad) = "Pay with your own money"
Used when you're going out with friends and don't treat each other to paid meals. Pay on your own!
Aq = Ako = I
I personally tend to abbreviate ako as "aq" as the pronounciation is sort of the same where the q sounds like "ku" so it sounds like "aku" or ako in an informal setting
Huy/Hoy = Hey
Said usually outside as Huyyyyy or Uy. Huy is like "Heyyyyyy" while Hoy is like "HEY!" (think of it as OI!)
Shet = Shit ▪︎ Pak = Fuck ▪︎ Pakyu = Fuck you
Kyut = Cute
Pa kyut = To be cute, not to be confused with Pak-yu
This is all I could come up with for now, feel free to add more! Hanggang sa susunod! Mwah mwah kis kis

//All right, folks. I'm only going to do this once. If I'm going to reblog this post as a reminder, then so be it.
I am doing my morning work routine and decided to check my Tumblr before I make my drive when I got this lovely Anonymous message:
Tumblr media
I appreciate community warnings, but not like this. With that said, I do not block or ban people based on chismis or gossip or whatnot. Especially while you're anonymous. If you want to talk smack about someone, show me your face.
This isn't me being retaliatory against those who wish for me to shun my RP partners. I have been a game master and moderator in previous communities and I assist administration in the business I work with: I have swung the ban hammer and demanded eviction before. I have boundaries and limits, and I know what toxic behavior in a community looks like. But with that said, I am also human and I am not everywhere all at once. If you going to go to me for RP drama that I am not involved with, either you don't altogether, or be ready to for me to grill you on a barbie as to why you are asking me to drop interactions with a friend.
I am protective of my friends and partners, through ill and worse. But I am also fair to others in the community. The person in question in this Anon, I KNOW they are the subject of drama, and I am still interacting with them because I am trying to help them improve their behavior as a mentor, as we've been friends for years now. And they are not the only one. You don't have to whisper at me behind my back. I am not a sixteen year old who engages in shitty behavior, this sort of gossip-mongering is why I have social anxiety into my fucking thirties.
I consider myself and my blogs a safe space, but I cannot be a safe space if people sneak onto to me to start up a fire. If you wanna talk about drama, face me. But do it privately and civilly.
And this goes to my friends who are trying to hide from whatever drama they're engaged with too. I am not one to shut my ears against the truth against gossip. If I did that to what is the cause of my social anxiety to day, I would still be in counselling. Be willing to face the music. But I will not come to you to be accusatory. I want to help. Often times drama happens because of actions that was not intended, or there is miscommunication. Or maybe the drama IS your fault, and I want to speak to you as a friend out of concern. It doesn't matter. I am being transparent and crystal clear here. I don't like the truth being hidden from me. So if I go around asking, I am not doing it to prod. If anything, it might help me build a case in your favor.
With all this said, I do not engage with this Anon chismis bullshit. If I have an issue with you, I usually go to you directly about it. This post is a warning to anyone who wishes to pull me into drama I am not a part of. I am all about trying to help and support the community, but if you approach me this way, then I'm going to have to put my foot down and establish MY limits as to why I will not engage.
You all have a good day.

Really random but sometimes I forget that some Filipino words are borrowed from Spanish so when I saw the word "chisme" I go "oh that's a typo" not realising that "chismis" is not the original word for gossip 🧍‍♀️
- 🪼 / Jellyfish
OH NO WAY I didn't know that filipino borrows words from spanish. That's so interesting..

Of family outings, kayak/boating experience, and relatives chismis time
One thing which gives me undeniable delight, aside from a couple other things, is a family outing, free of charge courtesy of a rich generous relative. (btw, happy birthday to Ate Kat HAHA she's approaching 50s and a successful accountant I think ^^)
Is it just me or some of y'all also experience awkwardness within family reunions, especially with your cousins whom you haven’t seen in a while? As an introvert myself, it's so hard to open a conversation unless, of course, I was spoken to or there's a topic that I am very interested in which I would undeniable pitch in with no problem. I just don't know how to initiate a conversation except embrace the screaming awkwardness and silence I am most comfortable with. On the contrary, my family (also other relatives) has no problem chit-chatting with everyone else like they have been best of friends all their life, my mama and tita most especially.
The day was just as usual whenever we go to beaches. Kids were on the pool, titas and lola gossiping, and me, a semi-adult-but-don't-wanna-be-one, was splurging on the snacks that were brought (I have nothing else to do). What I'm just sad about this whole thing is that I have no other cousins my age that I can talk to during family gatherings, I just want to share fresh teas like how the other adults do it.
A half-eaten cake and a few ruined reputations later, we found ourselves pedaling in the middle of the lake after spotting the kayak and boating area (gotta enhance and flex that Filipino calves I guess). Honestly, my boating experience was one of the shakiest ever, which I would give the credit to my two nieces. There were a few times which I really considered the boat will overturn and I am just there praying, hoping on for the dear life of my old Samsung phone. And just then, the two of my genius nieces decided to have the greatest boat race in history. Aside from the unexpected leg work in this burning heat, I also have to maintain my poise to look fresh and look good in the videos and pictures so that my family can show off that they have a gorgeous family member. Kidding aside, the cherry on top on all of these chaos was probably my other 8-year-old niece yelling the P.I. word in the heat of the moment during the race which garnered a few gasps and laughs from us. Her mother (one of my cousins), a few distance away from us, was pedaling her way to us unknowing of what her daughter just said. In my mind, it's actually way funnier if her mother had heard and then they will chase each other whilst paddling the boat or my niece getting scolded after the boat ride which would be epic. In any case, this experience will undoubtedly be included in one of the conversations in future family reunions.
Our outing ended with so much fun and with a bloated stomach. I will miss, definitely.

Marites: The potential birth of IJ pieces
Tumblr media
Journalism isn’t chismis, but sometimes, we have to admit that it could provide an entry point for impactful stories that remain underground. Although trusting rumors is one of the deadliest sins a journalist could commit, you have to wonder sometimes why such stories are only being transferred from ear to ear, through word of mouth, instead of public and official dissemination. We should be thinking, maybe there is a reason why these pieces of information are repressed behind anonymity and silent voices.
In the context of investigative reporting, a rumor can sometimes serve as a lead. It could even provide us a hypothesis that we can subsequently test through proper journalistic legwork: documents, interviews, and gathering data.
Living in a country where gossiping is essentially a cultural norm— something that binds several members of a community— it is highly possible that some important truths are always lying around in their words. We just have to dig, verify, cross-check, and straighten things out.
Indeed, people are more comfortable contributing to a story or hypothesis that we already know, instead of retelling everything from scratch. If we come to think of it, it’s easier to expound on “yes and no” than answer “what, how, and why” questions. Moreover, if people think that we already have an idea on a certain issue regardless of its confidential nature, I do think they are less likely to feel guilt in correcting or giving us more details. That’s how powerful a hypothesis can be —- it gives us a sort of head start and something to follow and expect.
In fact, Hunter said that unfulfilled expectations or promises can make good hypotheses. When there is an observable gap between the reality and the “supposed to be,” a story is already unfolded. The in-betweens of point A and point B must then be connected.
Just like rumors, however, Hunter also described a hypothesis as dangerous. While it can guide us into actually coming up with stories and leads, it could also lure us to disregard evidence in exchange for a juicy story anchored on our initial hypothesis.
As journalists, we should avoid getting caught up in proving our hypothesis. If our story takes on a detour, we should accept the new facts presented to us, and build another hypothesis from it. I guess this speaks a lot about our ability to unlearn and relearn things to make our investigative report work. It speaks a lot about our resilience — to recover and push through even if the circumstances are not in our favor
