Cyberpunk au oneshot with so much worldbuilding that I probably won't do anything with
"You heard about that little vigilante down in tera?" Wilbur asks suddenly.
Techno looks over at the Admin to see him spinning idly in his chair, the holographic screens floating around him remain still as he turns, and Techno knows that even with his enhancements that Wilbur isn't actually paying attention to any of them.
Which is unhelpful when they're supposed to be working. Stuck on desk duty after their fight in the Heights that nearly leveled a building. Techno is of the opinion that it wasn't his fault, the Corp he was fighting told him he wouldn't be able to fling him through concrete. Techno was just proving a point.
Nevertheless, Phil hadn't been happy about it. Dragged all the way to the middle of the Heights for a meeting with Schlatt and as punishment he was not only stuck on desk duty, but stuck with Wilbur as well.
"No." Techno says simply, making a point to turn away from the Admin.
Wilbur, though, is never one to be so easily deterred by such a blatant rejection as he pushes his chair away from his own desk and wheels his way over to Technos.
"You like building shit, I think you'll find this cool."
Techno sighs, despite being an android that doesn't need to breath, he needs Wilbur to feel his exasperation somehow. "I mod weapons, Wil, I don't 'build sh-- crap'. I've told you this before." The way his mouth stutters over the swear just makes him even more frustrated.
Stupid Wilbur and his stupid Admin-ness turning his profanity filter on for some sick joke.
Still undeterred, Wilbur slides a hologram screen in front of Technos face and he quickly scans over the image in front of him only -- much to Wilbur's smug amusement -- to find he is quite interested.
"Are those mechanical wings?" Techno asks. "How are they attatched-- how do they even work?"
Wilbur shrugs taking the holo screen back and wheeling over to his own desk again. "No clue. Kids gotta be some sort of genius. I'm thinking about asking Dadza if we need a new agent."
"If you can ever get him out of his office," Techno says dryly. "It would be good to have an engineer on our team again."
The 'after Sam left us' goes unsaid, but still hangs in the air like a heavy weight.
"No vigilante lasts long down in tera anyway. It's better we get to him before Dream or god forbid Schlatt does."
Wilbur hums and with a flick of his wrist all his holo screens disappear in a flash of light as he pushes himself to his feet.
Techno just watches him go with raised eyebrows, noticing the determined set to Wilbur's shoulders as he walks out of their shared office, probably heading straight for Phil.
With a roll of his eyes Techno turns his attention back to his work. If they do manage to convince this vigilante to join them, Techno'll hardly be able to ask him about his wings if he's chained to this fu--
If he's chained to his desk.
Lights, he really, really hates Wilbur.
