Nike Basketball: Holiday 2023 Showcase
The 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival will serve as the culmination of this summer’s VS tournaments that occurred in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and Toronto. But more than just a showcase of the best young talent, the 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival is a celebration of the cultural influence that only basketball has.
Embedded in Nike’s legacy across apparel, lifestyle and performance, a series of installations in adjoining Damrosch Park will showcase how the game has influenced innovation and design for decades. Classic era-defining silhouettes and other artifacts from the Nike archives will be showcased to highlight key moments in Nike Basketball. The installation is also accompanied by a first look at Nike Basketball’s upcoming holiday collection, on display here.
Check out a round-up of the silhouettes that will release Holiday 2023.

Classical Music Has a Hazy Future in Lincoln Center’s Summers
Classical Music Has a Hazy Future in Lincoln Center’s Summers
The day had been hot and muggy. But a mild breeze was blowing at Lincoln Center by the time the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra took the stage in Damrosch Park on Tuesday evening. The pianist Conrad Tao played an elegantly unruffled Mozart concerto and a daydreamy “Rhapsody in Blue.” Apart from a sprinkling of small performances last summer, this orchestra hadn’t been assembled since 2019, but…

Today in New York: Raphael Saadiq brings his seamless pairing of the old school and the new to Damrosch Park, as part of Lincoln Center Out of Doors. At only eighteen, the bassist, singer-songwriter, and funk auteur toured with Prince—an auspicious beginning to a career that has included producing award-winning music for Solange Knowles and D’Angelo, and collaborating with Erykah Badu. (He also scores Issa Rae’s HBO series, “Insecure.”)

My RECAP: Brian Stokes Mitchell free outdoor concert at Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park on July 23, 2021
Tumblr media
[Brian Stokes Mitchell performs at free outdoor concerts as part of Lincoln Center's "Restart Stages" at Damrosch Park in New York City, July 21-23 and August 12-14, 2021].
"Artists, essential workers of another kind"
I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets to see Brian Stokes Mitchell at one of his outdoor shows at Lincoln Center’s Restart Stages in Damrosch Park (7/23/21).  So, me and my friend hopped on the Metro North in New Haven and spent a fun day in New York City visiting bookstores and comic book stores, eating tapas, and dodging unexpected summer downpours.  This was a few days before all the mask mandates came back and the world seemed a tiny bit more hopeful for a change.
Trying to put into words how special it was to see Brian Stokes Mitchell live and in person on a summer night outside in New York City after falling for his music and his outlook on life and art during this pandemic and also not having seen live music for two years..and coming up short..but it was really moving and beautiful and goofy and perfect. 🕊🎶#ArtIsAWeapon #GregTate "Celebrating Greg Tate: More Than Posthuman: Rise of the Burnt Sugar Arkestra Mojosexual Cotillion" this Sunday, July 17, 2022, 7:30 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM), @lincolncenter #SummerForTheCity. Limited advance reservations: www.lincolncenter.org/series/summer-for-the-city/celebrating-greg-tate-more-than-posthuman-rise-of-the-burnt-sugar-arkestra-mojosexual-cotillion **This celebration honoring Greg's life and legacy will be live-streamed for folks who are unable to attend - go to Lincolncenter.org ** Reposted from @lincolncenter: Gregory Stephen Ionman Tate (1957-2021) was a giant of Black radical thought and creativity, and a conductor of incandescent, community-driven music. Tate's body of writing as an influential critic would be enough to enshrine him as a cultural icon, but he is equally important to a generation of musicians as both the co-founder of the @blackrockcoalition, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the complete creative freedom of Black artists; and the creator of @burntsugararkestra, a sprawling, omnivorous, and outrageously accomplished improv collective. Reposted from @burntsugararkestra - For this homecoming concert, curated & presented with The Tate Family at one of his favorite venues, more than thirty Burnt Sugar Arkestra members will perform in celebration and tribute to one of the most essential voices in the history of 21st Century Avant Groidd music and thought. On the same day, The Tate Family, Lincoln Center, and Photoville will honor Tate's life and work with the presentation, “In Praise of Shadow Boxers, Dissonance & Dissidents: A Pop-Up Tribute Exhibition to Greg Tate”. The exhibition will feature six-foot prints by 24 artists with whom Tate was in community and whose work he championed. Each image is accompanied by a personal statement by that artist about Tate. The band: Liza Jessie Peterson – MC, Freedome Bradley – MC, Pastor Kaji Dousa – MC Vernon Reid – Conduction, Lisala Beatty – Vocals, Shelley Nicole – Vocals & Conduction, Bruce Mack – Vocals/Synthesizer & Conduction, Karma Mayet – Vocals, Abby Dobson – Vocals, Sequoyah Murray – Vocals, Shariff Simmons – Vocals, Simi Stone – Violin, Satch Hoyt – Flute & Percussion, Lewis “Flip” Barnes – Trumpet, Avram Fefer – Soprano Sax, V.
