Calvin Klein è nato nel ’42 da genitori ebrei ungheresi, frequenta la prestigiosa New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, benché non conseguirà mai la laurea, ricevendo soltanto nel 2003 un dottorato ad honorem. Calvin Klein comincia il proprio praticantato nel 1962 e lavorerà per cinque anni realizzando vestiti per alcune boutique di New York, per esempio fece da assistente designer per Dan Millstein per due anni. Soltanto in seguito fonderà una compagnia propria, insieme ad un amico di infanzia. Nel 1964, Klein ha sposato Jayne Centre, dalla quale ha avuto una figlia, Marci. La coppia, però, ha divorziato nel 1974 e nel 1987 si è risposato con Kelly Rector, una dipendente della Calvin Klein Inc., dalla quale ha divorziato nel 2006. Dichiaratamente bisessuale, ha recentemente avuto una love-story con il suo modello Nick Gruber; i due si sono lasciati nel 2013. Nel 1968, insieme al socio B. Schwartz, ha creato in proprio una griffe con il suo nome. Oltre che per lo stile unisex e minimalista, le creazioni di Klein si distinguono per la semplicità della linea e la rigorosità dei tagli. La Calvin Klein Inc., spesso abbreviato semplicemente in CK,ha la sua sede ufficiale a Midtown Manhattan, a New York City. Nel 1993 Calvin Klein riceve il premio del Council of fashion designers of America. Segno distintivo della CK sono anche le campagne pubblicitarie, spesso di carattere controverso, ma che nel corso degli anni si sono dimostrate di enorme impatto, al punto di lanciare rapidamente la carriera dei vari testimonial. Nel 1979 protagonista della campagna pubblicitaria della linea di intimo della ditta fu Brooke Shields, oggi attrice di grande successo. Tuttavia all’epoca delle pubblicità la Shields aveva appena quindici anni, e si creò un vero e proprio caso intorno a lei. La Shields fu nuovamente protagonista di alcune pubblicità per Calvin Klein nel 1982.Nei primi anni novanta, per lanciare la nuova linea di abbigliamento intimo maschile fu scelto Mark Wahlberg, che, sotto il nome di Marky Mark, vide decollare la propria carriera di cantante. Il particolare tipo di boxer indossati da Wahlberg fu associato in maniera indelebile al marchio CK, al punto di essere spesso chiamati calvins. Come testimonial femminile, Calvin scelse per quasi tutti gli anni novanta la top model Kate Moss. Famosissimi i suoi spot, e anche tanto contestati. Nel 1995, la campagna pubblicitaria del profumo Obsession di Calvin Klein, in cui la Moss appariva seminuda, suscitò enormi polemiche. Fra gli altri nomi noti che hanno prestato la propria immagine al marchio Calvin Klein prima di diventare celebri, si possono ricordare Antonio Sabato Jr., Kate Moss, Scott King, Natalia Vodianova, Gemma Ward, Jenny Shimizu, Tyrese Gibson, Travis Fimmel ed Eva Mendes, Sasha Mitchell insieme a tanti altri.

Klein è stato uno dei numerosi stilisti cresciuti nella comunità di immigrati ebrei del Bronx, insieme a Ralph Lauren. Sotto l’ala protettiva di Baron de Gunzburg, Klein divenne celebre nella scena della moda newyorkese, prima ancora del lancio della sua prima collezione di jeans. Anni dopo, parlando ad una intervista per Interview magazine, pubblicata poco dopo la morte di Baron, Klein ha dichiarato che l’uomo è stato uno dei suoi maggiori ispiratori e per lui è stata una grande fortuna averlo conosciuto.Nel 2002 Calvin Klein ha ceduto il marchio alla PVH (Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation) di cui fanno parte anche altre firme come Tommy Hilfiger, Izod, e altri . Dal 2003 fino al 2016 la direzione artistica della linea donna è stata affidata allo stilista Francisco Costa, mentre quella della linea maschile a Italo Zucchelli. 

A partire dall’agosto 2016 Raf Simons è nuovo Chief Creative Officier “Mr. Simons guiderà la strategia creativa del marchio Calvin Klein a livello globale attraverso la guida delle linee Calvin Klein Collection, Calvin Klein Platinum, Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans, Calvin Klein Underwear e la collezione Calvin Klein dedicata alla casa – comunica il brand nella sua nota ufficiale – In veste di nuovo chief creative officer Mr. Simons supervisionerà tutti gli aspetti del design, del marketing a livello globale, della comunicazione e dei servizi dedicati alla creatività visiva. Le prime collezioni di Raf Simons debutteranno con la stagione inverno 2017. Manhattan's Lincoln Plaza Cinemas to Shut

Lincoln Plaza Cinemas, the long-running artwork home fixture on Manhattan’s Higher West Aspect, is scheduled to shut its doorways on the finish of January.

“We misplaced our lease, and they don’t seem to be prepared to increase it,” Ewnetu Admassu, basic supervisor for the six-screen multiplex, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re not closing due to lack of enterprise.”

Positioned at 1886 Broadway between 62nd and 63rd Streets since 1981, the six-screen multiplex has been run and programmed by Dan Talbot and spouse Toby, working as a three way partnership between the Talbots, France’s Gaumont and Millstein Properties, which owns the constructing by which the theater is positioned.

Millstein Properties mentioned that it plans to reopen a cinema within the house in some unspecified time in the future sooner or later after wanted repairs and waterproofing of the plaza surrounding the property is accomplished, based on a spokesman, who issued an announcement saying, ‘Millstein Properties constructed 30 Lincoln Plaza in 1978. We’re long-term members of this neighborhood and have performed a central function in nurturing this particular theater. There may be important structural work wanted to restore and waterproof the plaza surrounding the constructing that can not be accomplished whereas the house is in use, and can start now that the cinema’s lease has expired. On the completion of this work, we count on to re-open the house as a cinema that can preserve its cultural legacy into the longer term.”
