Doodledex - #706-A Hisuian Goodra
Unlike its pre-evolution, Hisuian Goodra's body isn't completely dominated by its shell, so it's free to move around without awkwardly hopping or rolling. That doesn't mean it's completely outgrown it... a startled Goodra can still completely retract into it!
Although they aren't exactly shy, either. In fact, they hate being alone and can be extremely clingy around the people and Pokemon they like! On the flip side, however, they take being alone less well than Kalosian Goodra, who just cry if left by themselves. The Hisuian variant will instead rampage until its favorite people return!

Doodledex - #001 Bulbasaur
I had a (potentially stupid) idea... what if I tried to draw every Pokemon as a little challenge to myself? And, y’know... get better at doing digital art in the process. So here’s Bulbasaur! Hopefully I can stick with this....
I also wanted to color some shiny versions for the heck of it! I probably won’t shade these since I’m not brave enough to try yet, and the main point is seeing if I could draw them anyways, so I can have fun with the flat colors!

Doodledex - #705-A Hisuian Sliggoo
While there's no outward change to the Goomy that lived in Hisui, the same can't be said for their evolution! Thanks to exposure to high concentrations of iron in the water there, Hisuian Sliggoo are Steel/Dragon types and have developed a large, round, metallic shell! (And yeah, this technically makes them snails instead of slugs.)
However, unlike normal snails that only keep their organs in their shell, Hisuian Sliggoo holes its entire body up in there, with only its head and arms sticking out! It seems like this would make it awkward to move around... but when it needs to go fast it will retract all the way into its shell, stand itself up on its side and roll away!

Doodledex - #549-A Hisuian Lilligant This is probably one of the more dramatic regional forms, isn't it? I mean, look at regular Lilligant... and then look at Hisuian Lilligant again. It's pretty drastic, right? Lilligant looks like it's wearing a big, cumbersome dress... while Hisuian Lilligant went full on ballet dancer!
The dex theorizes that this is because these Lilligant lived in the mountains, and they needed to develop strong legs so they could gracefully leap around in deep snow to get around easier... but when you stop to think about it, it's weird. Hisuian Lilligant looks like it's "dressed" in less layers! How are they not freezing their leaves off? (But then again, there's no direct evidence for this: Petilil and Hisuian Lilligant aren't actually found in snowy areas in-game!)

Doodledex - #570-A Hisuian Zorua
Normally, when you get these regional forms, the Pokemon has adapted to its new environment in some way and changed as a result.... This isn't the case here. Zorua who migrated to Hisui faced a very harsh environment, stiff competition from other Pokemon, and vicious attacks from humans... and ultimately, could not thrive under these conditions.
However, its those last two factors that enabled Hisuian Zorua to come back as very vengeful ghosts! Despite that melancholy expression, they hold a very bitter grudge against humans and other Pokemon for what happened to them (...and, technically speaking, their ancestors since they can still breed), and it's this grudge that fuels their illusions in this form.

Doodledex - #503-A Hisuian Samurott
Oshawott wound up being the Water-type starter for Legends: Arceus, and this is a choice that definitely makes a lot of sense! Despite being the starter of a region based on New York City (and the surrounding area), Samurott is pretty darn Japanese... I mean, "samurai" is literally in its English name! (Of course, this was done on purpose as part of Gen 5's starter theming showing off the diversity of the region, but still.)
Of course, there's no good way to make a Hisuian Samurott more historically Japanese as a result... so it winds up living up more to its Japanese name (Daikenki, which is either "great sword demon" or "great devilish swordsman" depending on how you read it) and has the Dark type added to it! This means that Samurott from Hisui are a lot less bound to honor than Unovan ones, and will often resort to dirty tricks and surprise attacks to win battles! (And this isn't exactly fun to be on the receiving end of... a Hisuian Samurott's attacks are compared to the ceaseless crashing of waves!)

Doodledex - #628-A Hisuian Braviary
I have to say, it's pretty hilarious that they took such an American Pokemon like Braviary.... and then managed to make it Japanese. It's also funny that literally all they had to do was change it from a bald eagle to a Steller's sea eagle! (Which, by the way, will probably be renamed? I heard something about all birds named after people getting renamed because some of said people... frequently weren't great. I'm fine with that, literally all they have to do to a bird in my neck of the woods is start calling it the jack pine warbler.)
Something about becoming a larger species of eagle (and yes, they're larger than their Unovan counterpart) has made Hisuian Braviary into a Psychic type, which actually comes in handy when it hunts. It uses its psychic abilities to generate shock waves with its cry, which it uses to stun aquatic Pokemon! Once stunned, its prey floats to the surface, where Braviary can swoop down and snatch it with its claws! (Meanwhile, I invite you to imagine this with a Unovan Braviary and a Krabby. (I'm not saying bald eagles/Unovan Braviary are inefficient... but I am saying this wouldn't happen to a Hisuian Braviary. It would probably happen to a Steller's sea eagle, though.))

Doodledex - #571-A Hisuian Zoroark
With its unkempt, white mane and the horrible malice radiating off of it, it's no surprise that the people of Hisui regarded Hisuian Zoroark as a harbinger of death. I mean, they're not entirely wrong... it's still a Ghost type. (And it's still holding onto the grudges of its deceased ancestors... it could very well live up to that title!)
Speaking of those grudges, Hisuian Zoroark's power has increased to the point where its illusions can now harm both physically and mentally. In fact, the power of its malice is so strong that it frequently harms Zoroark itself... which probably explains those eerie red spots on its body! (Or purple, in the case of the shiny. Does it have purple flesh and/or blood or something?)

Doodledex - #550-F3 White-Striped Basculin
You may be asking "What the heck? Why is there a random new form for Basculin of all things in here? Why is this not a Hisuian form?", and the answer to that is.... uh... I have no idea. I think this is treated as a regional variant, but it's officially referred to as "White-Striped", matching its other two forms. In other words, I'm treating this as if it were just a random new form, and not a variant because Game Freak is very unclear with what's going on here.
Unlike the other two varieties of Basculin, White-Stripeds are actually very calm and gentle, and don't pick any fights over territory. In fact, they tend to migrate upstream in large numbers... although many of them don't survive the journey. (...But wait a second, that's salmon! These are bass! Something odd's going on here... and we'll get to that eventually.)

Doodledex - #484-F2 Origin Palkia
As I’d previously mentioned on Origin Dialga’s post, Origin Palkia’s dex entry kind of contradicts the idea that these forms are natural.... but it does support that they’re supposed to look like Arceus. In fact, it speculates that Palkia’s new resemblance to its creator is a “strategy for gaining Arceus’ powers”.... which strongly supports the “crazed power grab theory”! (And yeah, that makes a lot of sense considering L:A’s plot!)
...But I’ll be honest, I kinda don’t want to talk about this form that long. Palkia’s my favorite Pokemon (which is why it’s the blog icon), and this is.... uh... ...Let me just say I’ll only touch the Lustrous Globe twice: once to record Origin Form into the dex, and once to change Palkia back. (Thankfully, the Origin Forms are just stat redistributions gameplay-wise. Well, that and a tweak to Spatial Rend.)

Doodledex - #215-A Hisuan Sneasel
Today’s regional variant is a bit of an odd one... unlike the modern/Johtonian Sneasel we’re used to, Hisuian Sneasel aren’t as mean and spiteful... in fact, they’re implied to be a lot nicer if the fact that they have the Fighting type instead of the Dark type is anything to go by! But that isn’t the only weird type change here... Hiusian Sneasel is also a Poison type, and injects its venom with its sharp claws!
Since the Sneasel we’re used to appear in space-time distortions in Legends: Arceus, the dex entries take the opportunity to compare them, and suggests that the differences in environment is responsible for their different temperaments (and amount of venom).... exceeeept Hisuian Sneasel are found in a lot of the same kinds of areas modern Sneasel are found in! In fact, they’re found close to Lake Acuity in both time periods! (Which makes me ask once again: what the hell happened to the Hisuian variant in modern times?! What could’ve changed that resulted in the meaner, Dark/Ice variant overtaking them?)

Doodledex - #157-A Hisuian Typhlosion
When Legends: Arceus was announced, it was revealed that the starter choices in that game would be limited to “returning” starters: Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott. Not only would this be the first game with mixed-gen starters (...not counting the Mystery Dungeon series, of course), it would also be the first “core” game that wasn’t a remake (not counting Colosseum and XD) to have starters with known evolutionary lines.... or so we thought!
Turns out if those three starters are raised in Hisui, their final stages will be regional variants! A Cyndaquil born and raised here will be influenced by energy emanating from Mount Coronet, turning it into a Fire/Ghost type by the time it evolves into Typhlosion! And that’s not because Typhlosion died: it has this typing because it’s capable of purifying lost souls and guiding them to the afterlife!

Doodledex - #483-F2 Origin Dialga
It’s natural that a revisit to Sinnoh (well, Hisui) would add something for the other two members of the Creation Trio who didn’t have alternate forms.... and after BD/SP went for more accurate remakes over doing what OR/AS, Legends: Arceus was the perfect time for it! Both Dialga and Palkia got alternate forms via the Adamant Crystal and Lustrous Globe! (They also added the Griseous Core alongside them and made that Giratina’s form-change item, reducing the Griseous Orb to a stat-buff. Cool...?)
Except, uh..... unlike Giratina’s Origin form, Dialga appears to have twisted itself into a strange facsimile of Arceus. Its dex entry claims that it’s so powerful that this “must be its true form”.... but is it really? This looks (and I’m holding back here, believe me) way too awkward to be the form it was born with! The story events of L:A also lead me to believe this form is unnatural... and perhaps, a sort of “power grab” Dialga attempted in a frenzy. (Origin Palkia’s dex entry backs me up on this theory... but it contradicts Dialga’s. :\)

Doodledex - #101-A Hisuian Electrode
It’s kind of funny how Hisuian Electrode kind of switched “temperaments” with Hisiuan Voltorb.... normally Voltorb are the grumpy ones, while Electrode look... well, very smug. Instead, Hisuian Voltorb is very cheerful and friendly, while Hisuian Electrode is, for lack of a better term, fucking pissed. (If you’re not used to me swearing here... well, that was an unspoken rule of these posts that I just chucked out the window. There it goes! It’s gone!)
Meanwhile, the Poke Ball-related mystery thickens with these guys.... the Noble Pokemon I previously mentioned in passing on Hisuian Arcanine’s post are said to be descendants of five of the ancient Pokemon granted blessings by Arceus. This was before Poke Balls were invented.... and yet, there’s a Noble Hisuian Electrode! What the hell is going on here?! (And are we actually going to learn what the hell is going on here? Probably not!)

Doodledex - #059-A Hisuian Arcanine
You would think having fur made of volcanic rock would make Hisuian Arcanine slow and heavy... and while the latter is true (it’s about 29 pounds heavier than Kantonian Arcanine) the former certainly isn’t! Hisuian Arcanine is still very quick and nimble, to the point where it practically dances around its opponents as they futilely try to chase it down!
Unfortunately, since Hisuian Arcanine are currently stuck in Legends: Arceus (and Pokemon Go) with no way to transfer them out at the moment, I don’t really have that much info to share here. (I also don’t really have a good segue into talking about the five Noble Pokemon in L: A.... all I could come up with is a joke about how Arcanine’s species name is “Legendary Pokemon” and that’s probably as close as it’s going to get to being a “real Legendary”.)

Doodledex - #058-A Hisuian Growlithe
Don’t let the fact that this is a new regional form (as a reminder, the “A” in the number stands for “alternate”) fool you, we’re still in Gen 8! The third “main” game in this generation, Legends: Arceus, may be a bit of a departure from the rest of the series... but it’s still “main” enough to include a bunch of new Pokemon, starting with regional variants that existed in Sinnoh’s past, back when it was still called “Hisui”!
Growlithe from Hisui seem to be a bit closer to komainu than their “regular” counterparts, right down to being part Rock-type as if they were actual statues! The author of Legends: Arceus’ Pokedex (which is, of course, one of the earliest known ones in-universe) suspects this is due to these Growlithe being exposed to a lot of volcanic activity around the Cobalt Coastlands, with their fur incorporating a lot of igneous rock! (That said, some prior games put regular Growlithe pretty darn close to some volcanic activity.... including Brilliant Diamond. In Sinnoh’s Underground. Hm.)
