1) did shinjiro take hiro's surname and if he did, why??

𝟏) 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐫𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐨'𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐬𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐲?

So, this answer is kinda two fold. Yes and no. Really, the Shinjiro profile should have just that- Shinjiro, because he is not yet Itou. Hiroki Itou is Hiro's original name. It's the name that the Itou Clan was built off of and when he really does die he doesn't want the Itou name to die again. After the yakuza war that "killed him" in the 60s, the family died right along with him and he had to watch as the Itou name was dragged through the mud and made a mockery of. He didn't chose a very good captain before and that was why it couldn't hold up without him.

This time around, with this different operation, he decided that if he was going to choose a captain, it would need to be someone that he could mold into the form of himself. He had no son and even so, the Namikawa name exists so that his home can live independent of him. When he first encountered Kenji, he never intended to bring him into the fold but after some time (and Kenji's insistence) he realized that he had the perfect opportunity to make an heir out of him.

He does genuinely love Kenji and he has become like a son to him. So, when the conversation about grooming Kenji to succeed him came up, he suggested multiple ways for him to carry on his legacy outside of simply heading up the clan and that was to truly become like his son and adopt the Itou name.

To the men in the clan, he is only (Captain) Shinjiro but the day that he becomes the first man that they answer to, and only then, will he become Shinjiro Itou.

𝟐) 𝐖𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐝𝐧𝐚 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐨?

Yes, back in 1962, when Edna was working under-the-table, she was returning to the clinic on foot from making a house call. She heard the ghastly groan of a man coming from some bushes and immediately went to inspect it. That was when she found a shirtless man bloodied, battered and gushing blood from a fresh bullet wound at the side of his neck. It was a messy grazed shot but the only thing life-threatening about it was how quickly he was losing blood. He never would have made it on his own. So, determined to save this wounded stranger, she loaded him into her wheelbarrow and rushed him back to the clinic. Upon seeing his tattoos the clinic's owner wanted nothing to do with him and even told her to "put him back where she found him", terrified that if something went wrong, the yakuza would come after everyone at the clinic. After insisting and even promising to care for him on her own, the doctor agreed to let him stay and Edna genuinely did, singlehandedly, save his life.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐝𝐧𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝?

Edna is in the hospital after suffering from a stroke shortly after being diagnosed with heart failure. In nature, it's less of a hospital and more like a nursing home for recovery.

𝟑) 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐢𝐬 '𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲'?

I can't say much unfortunately because it's too integral to the plot but what I can say is, Hiro's actions before his "death" have not been forgotten.

MEET: EDNA NAMIKAWA

◈Age: 54

◈Job: Before the time of her hospitalization, this retired nurse was a housewife.

◈Relationship Status: Second and immensely treasured wife of Hiroshi Namikawa. It's been 25 years and she still can't place what she did to deserve such love and affection but she appreciates it anyway. Then, return it 10 fold.

◈Family: Aside from her husband and daughter, Edna has no family living in Japan. Most of her family lives in the states. Before she got sick, Hiro made sure to fly her and Arika out a couple times a year to see her family for as long as she could remember. She almost forgot what being homesick was even like. For what she lacks in Japan, she makes up for it back home. She's the 5th youngest of 21 children- So, to say that she comes from a big family is a bit of an understatement. It may have contributed greatly to why she wasn't initially thrilled when she found out that she was pregnant with Arika all those years ago. It wasn't the sole reason (of course) but remembering her childhood made her petrified of motherhood. She's happy with her decision now though. She wouldn't trade her daughter for anything in the world.

◈Friends: Being the wife of a man like Hiroshi Namikawa comes with a lot of social pressure but Edna navigates it so elegantly that people naturally gravitate toward her with little effort from her end. She's made friends with the wives of Hiroshi's associates. Ironically, she knows that he truly can't stand but she's nothing if not graceful. So, they would never know it. Oh, of course! Hiro would love for the four of us to go to your husband's favorite golf resort. I'll be sure to run it by him but you know that man's schedule. He can never seem to give himself time to unwind! I just give him an earful about it... *playful sigh* But, men. What can we do? Hehe.

◈Hobbies: She's the reason Arika took up sewing to begin with. In fact, she taught her a lot of what she knows. She likes to make new things, she likes to fix old things and she likes mixing the old with the new and seeing what comes out of it. A lot of the cast can point to at least one, minimum, article of clothing that Edna has made for them at some point in time. It's not professional by any means but it's pretty good for someone self-taught. She likes to crochet as well. She's recently, taken up quilting but she only intends to make the one and leave it alone. Edna also has a knack for baking which makes her someone that people can call when they're struggling with homemade desserts. Also, (and this will come up alot) but she thoroughly enjoys singing, too. As a housewife, Edna found it was best to keep herself busy with little hobbies as much as possible.

◈Favorite food: There's no way around it: Red velvet cake. It's not food. It's dessert but still it's the best thing since sliced bread in her eyes. She's got a recipe for red velvet cake that can knock the Lord's socks off- her words, which is saying a lot because she tries to avoid blasphemy (funny). The real secret is in her cream cheese frosting but she'll never tell. Not even Hiro knows and he knows everything.

◈Favorite Item: For her 50th birthday, Hiroshi, Arika and Kenjiro all chipped in to get her this top of the line sewing machine and cabinet that she'd been eyeing for some time. She could have bought it any time but she hated spending large amounts of money on herself. And a person spending large amounts of money on her made her uncomfortable, which was why Hiroshi wasn't allowed to buy it for her. They all rationalized that if they portioned off the price, it wouldn't be as bad and she couldn't say no to all of them. She loved it so much that she cried. She made sure to make use of it as often as she could so that their money didn't go to waste. When she was sad that she had to leave it behind when she was transferred to the Okinawa facility, Hiroshi somehow made sure that thing was in her room before she even touched the ground that morning.

Random Edna Namikawa Fact #1

Edna's Japanese speaking voice claim (Sayaka Kinoshita) has already been announced but before I ever knew what Edna sounded like in Japanese, I knew what she sounded like in English. Edna is said to have a voice so powerful that she's brought one of the most powerful men in Japan to his knees- even to tears. No matter how often Hiro hears his wife sing, this reaction comes as naturally to him as breathing does. There was only one woman in this world I could think of whose voice came to mind when I wrote those words: Miss Anita Baker.

She has a smooth, soothing and deep speaking voice when her tone is at rest and when she sings her voice belts out from deep within her. It's like a million angels calling out to the room instead of one petite woman. It could leave anyone with goosebumps.

When Hiroshi first heard her, he cried. These were not light, silent tears either. These were sobbing into the palms of his hands type tears before crawling over to her and whispering into her lap that he could listen to her forever.

It was a hideous sight. 💗

She's gone to karaoke with Arika and Goro once before she fell ill and Goro still remembers looking from his girlfriend to her mother with misty eyes and wondering what the hell went wrong with Arika's vocal chords.

There's even been a time when she's made Kenjiro cry but he's far too cool to ever admit it and she's too polite to give him a hard time about it. However, you may know that Kenjiro is quite the fan of car karaoke and one of his favorite people to have with him is Edna. Simply because she's not too shy to get into it and he gets immense peace from listening to her sometimes.

We all know what Majima likes to sing his heart out to but what about the other members of the Sins of the Father cast?

Arika

When she gets old, she hopes that she can look back at her youth and remember these tunes (and tunes like them) fondly despite everything that happened in her life. Sure, there might have been a ton of misery but someday, she prays that when she hears these songs, she can still taste champage, still feel a too tight dress squeezing her body as she shimmies onto the dance floor and still hum every single word as if not a single day had gone by. She has a strong fondness for city pop and her taste in music very much reflects that.

Hiroshi

He believes these songs, and songs like these are easy to get lost in while he works. That's... about all the information that I can provide here. He likes jazz and he likes old easy listening tunes. He just misses when music was music. He's a big fan of enka. Oh, absolutely he is but he's spent one too many hours in his American wife's record collection and it rewired his brain. There's music to enjoy and there's music to get lost in your craft. He happens to spend more time with his crafts these days.

Edna

If there's one thing about this woman, it's that she loves love and she loves to sing. Put them together and you've got a woman that's passionate about singing about love and does it wellllll. She's got a voice that can bring a man to tears. No joke. She has brought Hiroshi to tears on more than one occasion and even caused Kenjiro's eyes to well up a couple times but naturally, he would never admit to that.

When it comes to understanding the hidden meaning behind music, poetry or movies, Kenjiro is the first to admit that he's sort of a dunce but that doesn't make consuming them any less enjoyable. One of his favorite passtimes, especially when he's got alot on his mind is to hop in his car, roll the windows down and blast some of his favorite tunes while having his very own karaoke session. He'll do it alone or with company. He has no shame and if the person he's with is embarrassed by him, they won't be invited for another ride. He can't have a buzzkill like that dampering the vibes.

Methods of Transportation

Despite most of the characters living in areas with reasonably reliable public transport, or could simply walk to their destinations, not all of them do so. Let's dicuss!

Note: The story begins in 1989 (I shifted it a year ahead of canon for purposes.)

Goro, of course, is more likely to stroll his way from Point A to Point B but when he can't be bothered (or he's trying to get someone off his trail) even he will hop in a taxi from time to time. If he were able to go out of Sotenbori, he would use the train to travel long distances. No doubt about it. He tries to be environmentally environmental conscious when he can.

Arika is a lot like Goro in that she doesn't turn her nose up at the idea of walking where she needs to go. She does alot of long distance travel though, and so the subway is a godsend for getting her to and from work. On the rare occasion that she can talk her father out of picking her up so that they can fly out to Okinawa, she takes the train and then a short taxi ride to the airport. Back when she was in college, she'd even bought herself a bike to help get her around despite both Hiroshi and Kenjiro offering to have someone chauffeur her around when needed.

It's not everyday that Hiroshi drives but when he does it's typically because he's given his chauffeur the day off (or he's sent him home for the day). He does prefer to be the driver when he's spending quality time with his family (work and events when his family is also present is a different story). Family Man Hiro loves to be behind the wheel playing the respectable but fun loving husband and father. Can't sell that feeling with a large, brooding gentleman with muscles on his muscles in the driver's seat, right?

He owns three vehicles: his personal, which is something very recent, that only he drives, the family vehicle and then there's the one for work that only his chauffeur is authorized to operate. His personal, the MR2 was a bit of a flashy splurge. When he and Arika have non-Edna related plans he likes to pop up on her in it simply because he knows that she gets wildly embarrassed by it. The Skyline was the source of inspiration behind a purchase Kenjiro later made as it was the vehicle he used to drive the girls around when he was a resident of the Namikawa home.

When most people think of Kenjiro Hara, they think of a few things; his looks, that damn club or that freakin car. He'd prefer it if people talked about the car and nothing else. It's his baby. Before working as a chauffeur for the Namikawa women, he never cared much for cars. He walked just as much as the next guy but just being in proximity to that family afforded him luxuries he would have never dreamed of back when he was just a punk kid on the street. One of those things being the ability to ride stylishly to and fro whenever his heart deserved (so long as he made sure the girls were sorted first, of course). After Arika moved to Osaka for college, Hiro had Kenji live in Kanto for a while and he tried the public transport thing. He did. But he couldn't stand it.

He bought himself something nice but it wasn't something that he saw himself in for long. Just until the right thing came along- it got him where he needed to go. Naturally, it was cool- of course. But then, in 1989, the right thing did come along and he was first in line with cash in hand. The only way Kenjiro would step foot on a bus or train is if he's on a mission that calls for it. Otherwise, he's spent too much damn money on his Skyline to not ride it until the wheel falls off-- Not that he'd ever let that happen. After all, that's his sweet girl.

random things about my ocs (and aizawa because why not)

Masato is quite impressive on the dance floor. It doesn't take him long to find his rhythm no matter what is playing. Chances are if music is playing, he can be found gently shimmying his shoulders and nodding his head if he's not already begun to tap his feet. It's funny, he used to be an absolute wallflower up until he reached his twenties. He never would have danced before! Sure, his mom made him dance with her a bit as a kid but the way he feels about dancing now is... different. Though his clubbing days are long over, those nights in Gunma transformed him and although he could've gone without all the drama- he does miss the nights when he could knock back a few with his boys after a long shift and just let the music move him.

Arika has a few scrapbooks now. The hobby originally started as a way to document something more nefarious that she simply wanted to 'keep up with' but she realized that she could do it for other things as well. More wholesome things. With the help of the polaroid camera Kenji gave to her as a gift after she graduated college and her bucket of craft store supplies, she's committed to making the cutest scrapbook imaginable. At any point in time her coffee table has a messy pile of polaroids just waiting to be snipped/taped onto stationary. She's got a perfectly healthy, perfectly normal collection of photos of Goro mixed in the pile. Why do you ask?

Maria was a bit of a coffee snob. It was a pain for anyone to get her to agree to join them for coffee at a café that hasn't gotten her prior stamp of approval. Masato was always the more adventurous of the two of them and he'd have to combat her "Well, I just don't know if I'll like their coffee.' with a "How will you know if it's not good if you never even try it Mãe? C'mon, I know your tastes just trust me'. But even when she reached the counter that didn't mean that she was convinced. She was always polite about it when she'd ask in her sweet, careful but accented Japanese for "a simple cup of hot, black coffee, please." Her son took her to PLENTY of cafés but there were only a handful that she truly liked. In the end, as long as she had a functioning coffee machine at home and her preferred coffee beans were still just a train ride away, she was perfectly satisfied having coffee at home while she watching tv. No, exploration necessary.

Edna has a voice so powerful that she could bring one of the most powerful men in Japan to his knees and quite frequently does- to tears, even. When she sings, her voice comes from somewhere deep within her but it sounds like a million angels are calling out to the room instead and it can leave anyone with goosebumps. When Hiro first heard her sing- he cried. It wasn't just a few tears either, he sobbed. Hideously. She's brought Kenji to tears as well but he knew how to play it off, at least. With each member of her small family spread across the country to live their own lives while she stays in her private care unit, on her better days, there's no one to bring to tears with her song but herself... but no one could ever know that or they'd worry and she can't have that.

Hiro has a private bar room at the Wynn Royale on... permanent reserve, where he goes to unwind after a long day or sometimes entertain some guests of his. Classy place. He's aptly named it The Place so that when it comes up in conversation in front of people who aren't aware- and something major is going on, no one knows exactly what they're speaking of. Only authorized staff are allowed to enter The Place, they may have been employed by Wynn Royale but they only get authorization from Hiro. Naturally, authorization comes with clearance levels. For example, waiters are authorized at tier 1, entertainers are authorized at tier 3 but the bartenders- and there are 3 of them- are tier 5. Things can... happen at The Place and after a signal, the waiter is long gone, and the pianist ushered out, the bartender is prepared to serve more than drinks... Very classy place.

Kenji used to be a glorified errand boy when he was living with the Namikawa's, that was how he earned his Itou stripes. One of his responsibilities required, not driving Hiro around, Hiro had his own driver. Actually, he had to drive Edna and Arika around instead. It was a test and the kid passed with flying colors. After Hiro gave him money for a startup, his first goal was to earn enough to buy himself his own car- one just like the Namikawa car, newer though and sleeker, cooler. Naturally, he did and he hasn't missed an opportunity to cherish that car since... It's become a source of stress relief, even! When he's stressed, a late night cruise with the right cassette and a cigarette or two never seems to fail him. He's no loner though, he doesn't mind good company. Sit in silence or chat his ears off, just don't turn your nose up at his music selection.

Casting! My Thought Process (and the horrors!)

For the most part, everyone's voice was pretty much already set before casting came up. I mostly knew who I wanted for the boys. I knew the tone and register I was going for for the girls. However, once it came time to pull the trigger, things became... complicated.

Arika (CV: Yoko Hikasa)

When I casted Arika, I was so thrilled to find out that the seiyuu that I chose also voiced one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite shows. I was actually already sold on the actress because of an anime called Summertime Rendering (I've never seen it- just clips). Her voice there sounds very much like what I have in mind for end of book one, headed toward book three and beyond Arika. Rich still but, with a sort of apathetic flatness that she's unfortunately resulted to speaking with over time. However, Yoko Hikasa's voice when playing Utahime in Jujutsu Kaisen was always very pleasant to me. It's not pinpoint, exactly what I had in mind, as she speaks with an airiness that Arika (in my mind) does not use but the register is still pretty spot on.

I like writing deep voiced women. I like deep voiced women. I am a person with a deep voice myself. But, it was not easy casting this character (and her mother whom she inherits her deep voice from) because so much of the Japanese media that I've seen personally tends to cast higher pitched voiced actresses. So, I didn't have references to go off of like I did for the boys and when I did, the voices were too deep- to the point of not fitting her at all. I think I'm pretty satisfied with this choice now though. I believe I made the right decision.

Hiroshi (CV: Kazuhiko Inoue)

I originally wanted someone like Tsudaken (Kenjiro Tsuda, funny- I have a Ken already) but I thought that Tsudaken might've been a bit too... sexy for Hiro. I imagine Hiro's voice is fairly attractive but Tsudaken's voice kinda oozes a sex appeal that Hiro does not deserve kjsahds. I don't know how many other people think of voices in the same way that I do but I think voices are just as important as the character's physical design. I don't want Hiro to come off as sexy just by opening his mouth... If you know Tsudaken, he gives that- no matter how ridiculous he is. I know what Hiro is like, and I matched that with that voice and I worried I had a monster on my hands! Soooo, I recast.

I went with Kazuhiko Inoue because, sure, his voice is reasonably attractive. It's deep, smooth and you can somewhat hear that he's a mature man when he speaks. But he sounds harmless! Until he's not- I wanted him to have the voice of a man you'd never expect to be.. Like That. Do you know what I mean? Now, am I concerned over the fact that Mr. Inoue played That Character? You bet your sweet ass I am- but I'm trying to avoid eye contact with the camera~!

Edna (CV: Sayaka Kinoshita)

Just as I mentioned with Arika, I knew that I wanted her to have a rich, deep voice. Sultry to a degree. She's described as having one of those voices that can be maternal to one ear but downright sensual to another. It's not with intention- That's just how it is. So, I had my work cut out for me because again, I didn't have a roster of names to choose from based on experience. Voices like that weren't typically main characters in the things that I watched, if anything, they were one-offs and I feel like a fool now for not making note of them! This has taught me a valuable lesson though and moving forward, I absolutely will. It will become easier as I expand the types of stuff I watch as well, I hope.

This beautiful, sweet, sweet lady gave me quite possibly the most hell out of my entire cast of characters! The seiyuu I'd originally casted her as was Romi Park. Sound familiar? It should- Think hard. I'll give you a hint, Yakuza 5. And since Edna is who she is to Majima I decided that that was just a little too close for comfort. So, I went back to the drawing board. Then, I found another voice: Atsuko Tanaka. Overwhelmingly sensual, mature but natural- you wouldn't even notice that you'd been swept off your feet until you were in the air. Then, I realized that sentiment felt quite familiar but I paid it no mind. Until, I'd gone to collect voice clips and got triggered by the word "tanjōbi"... Tanjōbi...Wikipedia...Kiwami--Reina.... I love you Edna but why must we do this?

Eventually, I found Sayaka Kinoshita by some random stroke of luck. Her resume was quite short- Perfect, no more YKZ jumpscares.

Kenjiro (CV: Hosoya Yoshimasa)

With Kenny-san, I had a mini roster of potential CVs. When I first went into his design, he wasn't meant to be handsome. He was really supposed to be your average, everyday Taro to be quite honest. Plain-faced, swagless little weasel of a Yes Man. And then... he ceased to be that. He just blossomed into what we know him as today and when I heard his lines, his voice changed from something desperate for Hiro's approval and starving to be seen to something confident, relaxed and almost arrogant- but falsely so. His physical design changed very soon after too. By the end I had an, 'Oh nooo, he's hot!' moment and that's when the voices started coming to me.

Junichi Suwabe was once at the tippity top of that list- I'd be lying if I said that that wasn't personal bias. But again, there was another issue of; is this voice Too Attractive? Distractingly so? I landed on: Yes. I was torn between Hosoya Yoshimasa and Shunsuke Takeuchi- in truth, when Shunsuke isn't using that loud, gravely voice, I think they sound eerily similar, which is perhaps why I was having such a difficult time choosing between them. In the end, I have no history with Shunsuke Takeuchi and a deep attachment to Hosoyan. So, I went with him. I hope I can live with that decision...

It's a 3-book series called Sins of the Father that has been in the works since January 29, 2021. I lost steam halfway through and dropped it a while back but I created this blog in hopes of regaining that excitement for this project again and hopefully finishing it once and for all! So, let's talk about it:

Sins of the Father

Goro Majima has been a slave to Sagawa for longer than he cared to admit in an attempt to buy his way back into the fold, to no avail. The bastard was never a man of his word but that doesn't discourage Majima from working his ass off until he gets what he wants. Until then, he has been cautiously navigating a civvy life that has kept him sane for the last year and a half by making life in Sotenbori feel a little less bleak and lonely. It's not until a brutal incident occurs that incites a chain of events that disrupts the false sense of peace he'd once sought solace in.

This forces him and the woman that he loves, Arika Namikawa, to become brutally honest with one another about the secrets they've kept throughout the course of their relationship. From there, they must decide whether or not the skeletons in the other's closet are too much to stomach and if not, where do they go from there?

MEET: ARIKA NAMIKAWA

◈Age: 23

◈Job: Full-time live-out nanny

◈Relationship Status: Current girlfriend of Goro Majima for a tad over a year and a half. She didn't move to Sotenbori with the intention of finding romance but she doesn't mind it. It is a little odd that she isn't the slightest bit put off by his former ties to the yakuza.... Ah well. Everyone has a past, I suppose.

◈Family: Only daughter of Hiroshi and Edna Namikawa. Hates being an only child and would have loved to have siblings growing up. She used to have a surprisingly close relationship with her grandmother (Hiroshi's mother) despite the woman not liking her mother up until she passed away when she was in high school.

◈Friends: Still hangs out with old classmates from college when she has the opportunity. Interestingly enough, she's met a couple fellow nannies whilst out with the children of the family she works for and she keeps in touch with them. They sometimes exchange advice or she offers an ear when they need to vent. After all they've been through, she considers Kenjiro a dear friend but she's not entirely sure where he truly stands on that, all things considered.

◈Hobbies: She enjoys going out into town for drinks, karaoke and dancing. When she prefers a more mellow way to spend her time off, she takes herself shopping for materials be it for her crafts or sewing. She's a nut for trashy magazines and never misses an opportunity to pick up a few while she's out.

◈Favorite food: She has a very Japanese palate but when her mother can get her hands on the ingredients she makes soul food that reminds her of home and it makes Arika's heart soar. Her favorite thing to eat is cornbread. Perhaps because it was so rare for her to get to eat it. She's learned how to make it but she thinks she'll never be able to make it like her mama.

◈Favorite Item: Perhaps it's not her favorite item, she doesn't place too much importance on material things. However, there was a necklace that her father gave her back when she was in high school that she has kept in great condition as he stressed how important it was that she kept up with it. It's never too far behind. Even if she's not wearing it. Perhaps it's a family heirloom? Who knows.

MEET: Kenjiro Hara

◈Age: 32

◈Job: Proprietor of Club Reign, more commonly referred to as Reign.

◈Relationship Status: Has been single for nearing two years now. He and his ex didn't even date long, the relationship lasted for about 8 months before they passed. They were friends for longer and absolutely dear to him. One of the greatest friends he's ever had. He hasn't tried again. It hasn't quite felt right. In his mind, it's like he never got to properly end the relationship. So, he feels like he'd be doing something wrong if he moved on.

◈Family: His mother was an abusive drunk who prioritized her even more abusive boyfriend over him and his siblings. He had brothers. But he couldn't say where any of them are now, though. He can barely even recall what they look like considering he left his mother's house when he was 14 and he lived on the streets for quite some time after that. He was not in his right mind the majority of the time. Alot of his youth before Hiroshi is a blur and what he does remember, he wishes he didn't.

◈Friends: He's got a couple of guys that he look to that he may call his friend but he's a little shy about using that word. It makes him feel weak. He hates that feeling. But sure, there's a couple people he could call if he's ever low. They're fellow Itou men--plants. But they're captains where they are, so they get him. He'd like to call Hiroshi his friend but deep down, he knows that he's nothing more than a pawn to him. It's alright though. He'd proudly be his chess piece until the very end. Edna is dear to him too. He adores her. He hopes that Arika can view him as a friend, someone that she can rely on but he fears that since she has a boyfriend now, she may not need him as much. Unfortunately for that guy, he treasures her. So they won't be rid of him so easily.

◈Hobbies: Kenjiro used to enjoy dancing back when he lived with the Namikawas as the girls forced him to quite often. However, he's gained an even deeper appreciation for dancing thanks to his job. Plus, how tacky would it look if the owner of the top disco in the city didn't know how to get his groove on? He likes to check out the local competition anyway. Two birds as they say. He's also really fond of cruising through town in his Skyline with windows down and the radio up as he belts his heart out to his favorite tunes. He could easily lose track of time that way. He's a very impressive bowler. His form is almost sort of elegant and he knows alot about the game on a more technical level than just 'knockin down them pins'. The man even owns his own bowling ball. He likes to invite people out for a round of drinks then end the night at the local bowling alley where another couple of rounds awaits. Get you drunk, then kick your ass. That's the Kenjiro way!

◈Favorite Food: His mouth waters at just the thought of karaage. Fresh, piping hot, crunchy karaage with pickled vegetables on the side and a nice foamy beer to finish it all off.

◈Favorite Item: If you know anything about Kenjiro it's that there's nothing on this Earth that he cares more about after the Namikawa family and Itou than his precious, precious 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Back when he used to drive the girls around, he was given the keys to Hiroshi's white sedan, a 1980 Nissan Skyline 2000GT. He'd only ever driven beater cars before then. It was like a dream every day. At some point, he began to fantasize about having one of his own. But he knew that when the time came, he'd have to get something similar but newer, cooler. Something that suited his style better. When the '89 GT-R sports car came out he could've jizzed in his pants. It was exactly what he was looking for all after these years and he had the money to pay for it- cash.

MEET: HIROSHI NAMIKAWA

◈Age: 61

◈Job: Founder and Chief Security Officer of Namikawa Securities

◈Relationship Status: Happily married to Edna Namikawa for 25 years (and counting)! She is his second wife and he wouldn't hesitate to tell anyone that she's the reason that he believes in love. His first marriage was purely done out of obligation. When he left his old life behind, that included the wife. He's sure he'd done her (Wife 1) a favor. He was a horrible husband before but now he's the Ultimate Wife Guy™️ minus the cheating.

◈Family: To his knowledge, he only has the one daughter, Arika. He wouldn't be surprised if he has more children out there somewhere from before. He doubts they would even know where to look if they did exist though and sure, he would be curious to meet them but it's likely for the best it doesn't happen. He's satisfied with the little family he has now anyway. He's fantasized about having more children with Edna more times than he could count but it took work convincing her for the one (and for good reason). He didn't want to push too hard. As far as his immediate family stemming from his parents- His father died when he was a child. He stopped dealing with his siblings so long ago he can't remember the details. As for his mother, he kept her comfortable and even allowed her to see her granddaughter up until she passed away but he never wanted anything to do with her personally.

◈Friends: Aside from his wife and his daughter and perhaps Kenjiro, Hiroshi would say that he doesn't have any true friends. Are there people that call him their friend? Absolutely, and he encourages them to feel that way. The more they trust him, the better. He has buddies. Absolutely. But he wouldn't hesitate to put those buddies' heads on the block if he perceives them as a threat in any way. Just ask Mikki.

◈Hobbies: He is a cigar aficionado. He likes to visit tobacco shops and chat up the staff about their recommendations and the selections so that he can learn more. He's even subscribed to a few magazines about cigars that teaches about the different types and what drinks pair well with them. He enjoys a nice, smooth drink as well. Preferably something that pairs well with whatever cigar he's smoking. During this, he likes to put on a record and listen to some nice tunes or chat up some good company. He also enjoys playing poker, mahjong and shogi.

◈Favorite food: If he can help it, he never misses a meal but breakfast is by far the most important to him. He enjoys a meal that is separated into several individual items. His ideal breakfast? Grilled trout, natto, steamed rice, cabbage and miso- with an option for seconds. If he could have this exact combination every single day for the rest of his life, he'd likely die a happy man. True story: The natto is his favorite part. Sorry, not sorry about his breath afterwards. At least his wife will still kiss him. That's all that matters.

◈Favorite Item: He started a watch collection back in his late 30s. The very first piece was a cheap pocket watch that Edna gave him as her wedding gift to him. Her thanks for him wanting to marry her. She joked him that he could use it to count the seconds until he was ready to rid himself of her. He remembers laughing at the watch with tears in his eyes, so happy that she was giving a gift to thank him for wanting her when really, he should have been thanking her. He gripped it tightly in his hands and bowed deeply saying, "Thank you, sweetheart. Instead, I'll use it to count every second that I get to be a part of your life." 25 years have passed but he will never forget such a beautiful night.
