This was supposed to be fun, just a couple of nights out on the town and perhaps a few romps in the sack; but a year and half has gone by and this relationship has brought inexplicable light to Majima’s life in Sotenbori. What happens when that light shines a tad too bright and exposes the skeletons in both their closets?
Has the gilded cage begun to rust?

MEET: ARIKA NAMIKAWA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
◈Age: 23
◈Job: Full-time live-out nanny
◈Relationship Status: Current girlfriend of Goro Majima for a tad over a year and a half. She didn't move to Sotenbori with the intention of finding romance but she doesn't mind it. It is a little odd that she isn't the slightest bit put off by his former ties to the yakuza.... Ah well. Everyone has a past, I suppose.
◈Family: Only daughter of Hiroshi and Edna Namikawa. Hates being an only child and would have loved to have siblings growing up. She used to have a surprisingly close relationship with her grandmother (Hiroshi's mother) despite the woman not liking her mother up until she passed away when she was in high school.
◈Friends: Still hangs out with old classmates from college when she has the opportunity. Interestingly enough, she's met a couple fellow nannies whilst out with the children of the family she works for and she keeps in touch with them. They sometimes exchange advice or she offers an ear when they need to vent. After all they've been through, she considers Kenjiro a dear friend but she's not entirely sure where he truly stands on that, all things considered.
◈Hobbies: She enjoys going out into town for drinks, karaoke and dancing. When she prefers a more mellow way to spend her time off, she takes herself shopping for materials be it for her crafts or sewing. She's a nut for trashy magazines and never misses an opportunity to pick up a few while she's out.
◈Favorite food: She has a very Japanese palate but when her mother can get her hands on the ingredients she makes soul food that reminds her of home and it makes Arika's heart soar. Her favorite thing to eat is cornbread. Perhaps because it was so rare for her to get to eat it. She's learned how to make it but she thinks she'll never be able to make it like her mama.
◈Favorite Item: Perhaps it's not her favorite item, she doesn't place too much importance on material things. However, there was a necklace that her father gave her back when she was in high school that she has kept in great condition as he stressed how important it was that she kept up with it. It's never too far behind. Even if she's not wearing it. Perhaps it's a family heirloom? Who knows.
Want to learn a little more about the others?

Osaka Locations: Apartment 6B
Arika's Apartment Sotenbori
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Photos are shown to offer a vague idea of what I have mind when writing but is in NO way an exact representation of the location described. Feel free to picture something different, just make note of any distinct furnishings/rooms that may be mentioned!)
Tumblr media
Arika's apartment is often described as warm and cozy. It's not clear to her what is so different about her place as opposed to other locations but characters like Goro Majima often feel at peace there, regardless of what's going on at the time.
The lighting is quite warm when using the lamps and overhead lights. On occasion, there may be an open window or two- or perhaps the balcony door is ajar, airing the place out and letting in the sun's rays.
Speaking of the balcony, this woman is quite fond of houseplants and has them scattered throughout, from the balcony to the front door. Unless a meal is being prepared, there’s always a fresh scent in the air but sometimes, she likes having a couple vases full of gorgeous and fragrant flowers to add to that.
Apartment 6-B underwent light renovation shortly before Arika moved in. The tatami that was once in rooms like the bedroom and living room were removed. Now, the majority of the flooring is dark wood with the occasional decorative rug. The formerly dingy white paint that covered the walls were also repainted with a fresher white coat. It's a nice and fairly sizable place- It's uncommon for a recent college grad to be able to afford such space.
Arika tends to keep nice and tidy. She gets quite agitated when there's a mess and often finds herself unable to maintain a clear head until it's taken care of. This does not extend to surface clutter which can be found in places like the dresser or vanity in her bedroom.
Majority of the furnishing is less than a few years old, except for say, the vanity. That originally belonged to her mother who had it since Arika was an elementary school student. The place is modest on the surface but this is deceptive. The truth lies in small details like decor: antique vases, a Tiffany lamp or two, Persian rugs, the brand names on those egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases or even the Turkish cotton bath towels.
Subtle things.
There’s a couple more things hidden in place sight at Apartment 6-B. Arika’s guilty pleasures can be found with a little rummaging through drawers and cabinets, things like savory snacks and rag mags, often paired together after a long day. There are random polaroids scattered around as well- pinned to the wall or stuck to the fridge. Mostly candid photos of loved ones. There’s also a stack of more risque photos hidden in a box beneath her bed but only she and Goro know about those.

Random Arika Namikawa Fact #1
xrewite of something posted on my old blog
Tumblr media
Arika likes to keep herself busy with little hobbies. Things that don't require too much brain power but enough to keep things quiet for a while. One of them is scrapbooking. Ironically, she picked up scrapbooking specifically because things got a little loud for a while and she needed somewhere to lay out all the information she had- somewhere to keep it too.
Just in case.
After some time, she realized though, just how fun it was despite the nefarious reasoning behind her starting it. She had been reading through different hobby magazines and became quite inspired! Over time, she'd started multiple different scrapbooks: one for memories, one for future goals, one for her fashion and interior design stuff, one for strictly jounaling and so on and so forth.
Back when she had graduated college, Kenjiro had given her a very nice, very expensive polaroid camera as a gift. Using it and her routine craft store shopping supplies, she's created some of the most aestically pleasing scrapbooks one may have laid eyes upon. Even the one detailing bloodshed.
At any point in time, her coffee table is littered with stacks of magazines awaiting snipping, stickers awaiting sticking and pictures awaiting pasting.
Huh? What do you mean there's an unhealthy amount of candid photos of Goro? Oh, please! It's fiiiiiine. Let the woman live, will you?

Listen to The Casts' Favorite Songs!
We all know what Majima likes to sing his heart out to but what about the other members of the Sins of the Father cast?
Tumblr media
Arika
When she gets old, she hopes that she can look back at her youth and remember these tunes (and tunes like them) fondly despite everything that happened in her life. Sure, there might have been a ton of misery but someday, she prays that when she hears these songs, she can still taste champage, still feel a too tight dress squeezing her body as she shimmies onto the dance floor and still hum every single word as if not a single day had gone by. She has a strong fondness for city pop and her taste in music very much reflects that.
Hiroshi
He believes these songs, and songs like these are easy to get lost in while he works. That's... about all the information that I can provide here. He likes jazz and he likes old easy listening tunes. He just misses when music was music. He's a big fan of enka. Oh, absolutely he is but he's spent one too many hours in his American wife's record collection and it rewired his brain. There's music to enjoy and there's music to get lost in your craft. He happens to spend more time with his crafts these days.
Edna
If there's one thing about this woman, it's that she loves love and she loves to sing. Put them together and you've got a woman that's passionate about singing about love and does it wellllll. She's got a voice that can bring a man to tears. No joke. She has brought Hiroshi to tears on more than one occasion and even caused Kenjiro's eyes to well up a couple times but naturally, he would never admit to that.
Kenjiro
(Dakare Ni Kita Onna is the name of that last song)
When it comes to understanding the hidden meaning behind music, poetry or movies, Kenjiro is the first to admit that he's sort of a dunce but that doesn't make consuming them any less enjoyable. One of his favorite passtimes, especially when he's got alot on his mind is to hop in his car, roll the windows down and blast some of his favorite tunes while having his very own karaoke session. He'll do it alone or with company. He has no shame and if the person he's with is embarrassed by him, they won't be invited for another ride. He can't have a buzzkill like that dampering the vibes.

Methods of Transportation
Despite most of the characters living in areas with reasonably reliable public transport, or could simply walk to their destinations, not all of them do so. Let's dicuss!
Note: The story begins in 1989 (I shifted it a year ahead of canon for purposes.)
Tumblr media
Goro, of course, is more likely to stroll his way from Point A to Point B but when he can't be bothered (or he's trying to get someone off his trail) even he will hop in a taxi from time to time. If he were able to go out of Sotenbori, he would use the train to travel long distances. No doubt about it. He tries to be environmentally environmental conscious when he can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arika is a lot like Goro in that she doesn't turn her nose up at the idea of walking where she needs to go. She does alot of long distance travel though, and so the subway is a godsend for getting her to and from work. On the rare occasion that she can talk her father out of picking her up so that they can fly out to Okinawa, she takes the train and then a short taxi ride to the airport. Back when she was in college, she'd even bought herself a bike to help get her around despite both Hiroshi and Kenjiro offering to have someone chauffeur her around when needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not everyday that Hiroshi drives but when he does it's typically because he's given his chauffeur the day off (or he's sent him home for the day). He does prefer to be the driver when he's spending quality time with his family (work and events when his family is also present is a different story). Family Man Hiro loves to be behind the wheel playing the respectable but fun loving husband and father. Can't sell that feeling with a large, brooding gentleman with muscles on his muscles in the driver's seat, right?
He owns three vehicles: his personal, which is something very recent, that only he drives, the family vehicle and then there's the one for work that only his chauffeur is authorized to operate. His personal, the MR2 was a bit of a flashy splurge. When he and Arika have non-Edna related plans he likes to pop up on her in it simply because he knows that she gets wildly embarrassed by it. The Skyline was the source of inspiration behind a purchase Kenjiro later made as it was the vehicle he used to drive the girls around when he was a resident of the Namikawa home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In order from left to right (recent personal, family, work) [1988 Toyota MR2/ 1980 Nissan Skyline 2000GT/ 1980 Nissan President Sovereign]
Tumblr media
When most people think of Kenjiro Hara, they think of a few things; his looks, that damn club or that freakin car. He'd prefer it if people talked about the car and nothing else. It's his baby. Before working as a chauffeur for the Namikawa women, he never cared much for cars. He walked just as much as the next guy but just being in proximity to that family afforded him luxuries he would have never dreamed of back when he was just a punk kid on the street. One of those things being the ability to ride stylishly to and fro whenever his heart deserved (so long as he made sure the girls were sorted first, of course). After Arika moved to Osaka for college, Hiro had Kenji live in Kanto for a while and he tried the public transport thing. He did. But he couldn't stand it.
He bought himself something nice but it wasn't something that he saw himself in for long. Just until the right thing came along- it got him where he needed to go. Naturally, it was cool- of course. But then, in 1989, the right thing did come along and he was first in line with cash in hand. The only way Kenjiro would step foot on a bus or train is if he's on a mission that calls for it. Otherwise, he's spent too much damn money on his Skyline to not ride it until the wheel falls off-- Not that he'd ever let that happen. After all, that's his sweet girl.

Edit: Edna is left out intentionally. This post will be updated at a later date!

OMG?? I love your ocs?? Really obsessed with the designs and descriptions for them! Especially that purple on Kenjiro's shirt, it's so shiny! May I ask how did Arika and Majima meet? Also, what did you make the models in?
Thank you so much!!! Fun fact, Kenji's model was meant to wear a teal colored shirt for his profile but I was too lazy to change them and redo the photoshoot! That said, I made all of the models using The Sims 4, alpha CC and heaps and heaps of photoshop! I'm glad you like them! That makes me so happy!!!
And absolutely yes you may!
How they meet:
One night Arika and a few girls she'd just met in university went into Sotenbori to bar hop. One of those bars happened to be Utahime Karaoke Bar near Ashitaba Park. Even with liquid courage none of them were bold enough to hop on the mic no matter how much she begged. However, Arika was determined to enjoy herself. After all, what was the point of going to a karaoke bar if you weren't going to sing at least once? Feeling a light buzz, Arika took the tiny stage with enough misplaced confidence to light up a few faces. One face in particular belonged to none of than Goro Majima. With her form-fitting dress, big brown curls and wide smile, he thought that she looked great with a mic in her hand- almost reminiscent one of those American pop stars he's found himself learning about at his club. That was.. until she actually began to sing. She could keep a beat but the poor girl couldn't carry a tune to save her life. It was horrendously entertaining. Majima spotted her crowd at the table next to him, cheering her on and he was feeling playful enough to join in.
After her song was over, Majima went over to collect the microphone. He told her that she had inspired him to sing his heart out too. She laughed and promised to cheer him on in that case and she did just that. As he sang, he couldn't stop looking over at her and still to this day he wasn't sure how many other people were paying attention to his performance in that crowded bar because his focus zeroed in on her as if he was intending to sing to her from the start. And he felt something. Of course it wasn't love at first sight or anything but whatever it was it intrigued him and he wanted to figure it out. As he ended his song, she gave him a standing ovation and yelled, "Wooo! Way to go, eyepatch guy!" and one of her friends snatched her back into her seat while she laughed.
Long after that finished, he caught her over at the bar ordering another round for her and her friends where he offered to pay. She refused his offer but he insisted. He told her that if she felt so bad about him treated her to a few drinks, she might as well return the favor by joining him for dinner some time and with a light hearted chuckle, she agreed. The two exchanged names and that was that.

for the ask post, megaphone and comet for arika?
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞? 𝐆𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦?
Arika's voice is fairly measured, I would say. Her voice is generally low but it might carry just a tad on account of it being on the deeper, more rich side of the typical female voice spectrum. She speaks using a slightly awkward mixture of two different dialects: Hakataben and Kyotoben. She was born in Fukuoka and lived there with her family til Hiro moved them to Kyoto when she was nine or ten years old. She did try to iron her accent more in favor of Kyoto when she was reached middle and high school but some intonations and words she just couldn't fix. I will say, (and so would Majima) her voice does come off as sort of sultry at times? Even if she's not being flirtatious and I think that's just apart of that vocal richness that I mentioned earlier.
Currently, Yoko Hikasa is casted as the voice of Arika Namikawa.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦? 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭?
People assume that she's a foreigner despite her never living outside of Japan. Sure, she's visited the States but she's not an American. She doesn't identify with the country as a whole- her mother's culture? Absolutely, but the rest- nah. She hates when, and this happens to her a lot, when people insist that they don't understand her despite her speaking perfect Japanese to them. If it's not that, she's having to answer hear compliments about how well she speaks Japanese...despite being Japanese.
Aside from that, I think that people tend to underestimate her a lot. She's seen as someone who is reliable, yes but she still needs to be led. She definitely plays up the weak, almost damsel in distress-like quality about her and not for physical reasons- rather, it's mental. She knows precisely what she's capable of but she doesn't really want anyone to know what she's capable of because she doesn't want to be found out. Even so, her true nature does slip out and she finds that when it does, she resembles her father in ways that frighten her.

Omg I finally got around to read your OC stuff and I'm so invested!! I love reading your thought out answers. ^^ If you're still answering questions, I was wondering how is Majima managing in keeping Arika and Sagawa from learing about each other? What would happen if they met?
i saw the notes and it made me soooo happy! thank you for taking the time out of your day to go through everything. i hope that you can continue to enjoy whatever it is that i put out next! and yes! i am always open for questions, especially about this! it's helped got me excited about this project again. so ask as many questions as you want ^-^ i will say though, these are really really good questions that i might not be able to give very detailed answers to simply because of how tied to the plot this entire issue is.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐰𝐚 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫?
Majima was doing alright at first but I would say that he's been operating under a false sense of security for a while. He knows that Sagawa wouldn't waste his best soldiers on babysitting him and so it led him to believing that if he moves the right way, he could easily outsmart them all long term. Unfortunately, it isn't quite that simple. By the time SOTF begins, we do actually get to see Majima become anxious about his ability to keep the two apart. I believe that since he is so mad about her, his rationality isn't quite where it needs to be. He makes decisions based off emotion in the heat of the moment that wind up biting them both in the ass. (and so does she.)
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐭?
Truthfully, if the plot had not been what it is and certain characters didn't play the roles that they do, I genuinely believe that Sagawa would either A.) not care because he would simply see her as just some girl and make crass comments to upset Majima or B.) demand that Majima end it and keep away from her just because he could and just because it would keep him as miserable as possible.
However, that's not the plot that we're working with here. I can't say a ton but what I will say is, Sagawa and Arika interacting in any capacity would be catastrophic to every party involved. Sounds stupidly dramatic, I know but just wait until you get to read what I'm talking about. If this story operated in a universe where Sagawa didn't know who Arika truly was, many, many lives would not have been lost and tons of trauma could've been avoided. (<-And I even mean this outside of Arika and Majima's relationship.)
Tumblr media
This was a realllllllly good question and it took everything out of me not fucking go an spoil the whole thing hahaha! Like I said, if you have anymore questions, please feel free to send them in! I'll ask them as best that I can with the information that I can offer currently ^-^

EEEE SO EXCITED TO HEAR MORE ABOUT SINS OF THE FATHER!!!
Can I ask, how familiar is majima with Arika's family?
Oh boy, oh man! Oh man, oh boy do I love this question! So, I'm gonna have to keep this short because just answering this is already kinda spoilery but this goes beyond Sins of the Father and even extends to The Majima Goro Way.
SO, when it comes to family, I don't really imagine Majima having much of a family outside of his men later down the line who he comes to foster deep relationships with. That said, very early on Arika senses his loneliness and sorta hopes that he can get his familial needs met by sharing hers with him. Arika has always had very expressive eyes so they could see right away just how happy she was with him once she introduced them. In different ways, Majima develops very unique and very genuine relationships with both of her parents and by the end of it all, he could honestly claim to have felt as if they were true maternal and paternal figures to him.
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐧𝐚:
Despite all of her time in Japan, there were still plenty of things about Japanese culture that she didn't quite understand because she hadn't really experienced it yet. Such as, how to treat the person that your child is dating. It has led to some very awkward first encounters but Majima always knew that her heart was in the right place. There even came a point in time where, to ease Edna of the embarrassment she might feel about flubbing an interaction, he told her to simply treat him as she would any son-in-laws had she been in America. She already loved Majima but her love for him multiplies even more after that! During and after plot relevant events, Majima comes to rely on Edna more than he ever imagined that he would and that really solidified their relationship. After a certain emotional conversation between them, he began to refer to her as Mama just as Arika does and in exchange she calls him Goro. It is because of her that he is able to get through perhaps the hardest time of his life during the SOTF timeline and he believes that if he can make life around him feel more like home to her, a few hugs and cheek kisses are a small price to pay in returning her kindness. He isn't sure how it happened but it sort of became the natural course for him to pour his heart out to her whenever it's just the two of them. And if ever there is trouble in paradise, Edna is a lot more likely to consider things from Majima's perspective than Hiro would be.
𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐨:
Anything that makes Arika happy, makes Hiro happy. The women in his life are the most important things to him, above all else. So long as Majima brought his daughter happiness, he would always welcome him into their family with open arms. Hiro peeped what Majima was the moment he met him and though he would have never in a million years wished for Arika to end up with a yakuza, he couldn't quite say much in the way against it without drawing too much attention to his own truth- which, he believed Arika to be unaware of. Hiro emulates Edna a lot in the way that he interacts with people, very personable even to strangers. So, when Hiro hugged and called him son, Majima was taken aback. He understood Edna but Hiro... it was more than a little weird. Now though, he expects the affection. After plot relevant events, Hiro and Majima's relationship deepens in a less superficial way. Hiro's respect for him intensifies because he knows firsthand how much work it takes to afford your family the ability to live in the light when you work in the dark. When it gets rough, Majima can go to Hiro for anything and the old man will do what he can to advise him in a way that's fair but from the start of this more honest relationship, Hiro reminds him that he is Arika's father first and foremost. Naturally, Majima respects this.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for asking!!!! Hehehe ^-^
