Cecelia used to spend summers in Avalor when she was a child. There was nothing she loved more than the views of the bay and the mountains. Okay, maybe there were a few things. Like eating chocolates from La Vida Dolce, the chocolate shop owned by her Tía Abuela Luisa's family. Or music lessons with her Tío Abuelo Francisco. And playing olaball with her cousins Elena, Isabel, and Esteban. Cecelia's favorite drink is lavender lemonade. A common beverage back home in the Magical Forest, but her Tía Lucia makes it special just for her.

Some OCs. Ella's grandparents and great grandparents.

Riccardo Avellano, 1st Baron Avellano. The Right Honorable Lord Avellano. He was Ella's great grandfather and the grandfather of Cecelia. He was an Avaloran hidalgo, or gentleman, and came from a long line of lower nobility. Though from lower nobility his family was highly respected. As a young man he fell on hard times and made a new start by sailing to the Magical Forest. He settled in Aurelianum (Eudora's kingdom) and made a living serving the crown as a knight. For his service he was given a Firefly Ruby (a medal of honor) and granted the barony title, Baron Avellano. The title was granted by Eudora's grandmother; the then Queen of Aurelianum. After becoming a baron, Riccardo married Josefina Flores the daughter of an Avaloran Duke.

Josefina Flores. The Right Honorable Lady Avellano. Lady Josefina was born in Avalor to a Duke. She was the younger sister of the Lord Marquess, Francisco Flores. She became a baroness after marrying Riccardo. The couple settled down in their manor home in Aurelianum. At some point they had a daughter whom they called Julia Avellano Flores. Back in Avalor, Francisco married a woman named Luisa. One of their daughters, Lucia Flores, married King Raul Castillo of Avalor.

Julia Avellano Flores, 2nd Baroness Avellano. The Right Honorable Baroness Avellano. She was the mother of Cecelia and the grandmother of Ella. She was an an accomplished musician and enjoyed painting in her spare time. Though her home was in Aurelianum, Julia spent many holidays and summers in Avalor and was immersed in the culture. She had a very close relationship with her cousins Margarita and Lucia. As an adult, she married Carlos Marchand. Her husband took her family name and it was passed on to their daughter. Julia died of illness when Cecelia was a teenager and left her title to her daughter.

Carlos Avellano Flores. Formerly Carlos Marchand, he was a wealthy cloth merchant from Aurelianum. Carlos grew up an orphan before starting his business. He gave himself the name Marchand to reflect his trade. He caught the eye of the Lady Avellano. After they married, Carlos took Julia's last name. He was titled Mr. Avellano Flores. Because when a baroness in her own right, like Julia, marries a man below her rank she keeps her title. And the husband doesn't become a Baron. Carlos lived to see Cecelia marry twice. He met his granddaughter and his two step-daughters. Carlos continued to be a successful merchant until passing his business down to his son-in-law, Marcus Tremaine. He retired and lived out the rest of his days doting on his granddaughters before passing away peacefully in his sleep.

Ella's full name origin headcanons

Ella Avellano Flores-Mills

Ella. A diminutive of Elena which means "shining light" or "bright one." Named after her second cousin once removed Elena Castillo Flores of Avalor.

Avellano. Family name passed down from her great granddad Riccardo Avellano (OC). Means "hazel tree" in Spanish. Was originally her first last name. Made it her middle name later in life.

Flores. Second last name. Passed down from her great grandmother Josefina Flores (OC), sister of Francisco Flores (EoA character). Means "flowers" in Spanish.

Mills. Married name. Took on husband Henry's name. Was originally her adoptive grandmother in-law, Cora's, maiden name before Cora married Henry Sr. Ella's adoptive mother in-law, Regina, used it as her last name during the first curse.

The Four Amigos in Once Upon A Time

Adria Arjona as Elena Castillo Flores. Age range (16-28). Crown princess and later queen of Avalor, Elena was trapped in a magical amulet for 41 years before she was freed by her distant relative, Ella. With Ella's help, along with help from Ella's friends Henry and Regina, Elena took her kingdom back from the evil sorceress Shuriki.

Rafael Silva as Gabriel Núñez. Age range (18-30) General Gabe Núñez, formerly captain of the guard, is one of Elena's best friends. Brave and loyal, he would lay down his life to protect those he loves and Avalor.

Chloë Grace Moretz as Naomi Turner. Age range (15-27). The Royal Chancellor of Avalor, Naomi was formerly a member of the Grand Council. She was born in the Magical Forest, but was raised in Avalor since she was two. Having grown up in Avalor Harbor, she was chosen by Elena to serve on the council because of her pragmatism and perseverance.

Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Mateo de Alva. Age range (16-28). Mateo is the Royal Wizard of Avalor. The grandson of the former Royal Wizard, Alacazar, Mateo was born with magic. However, he was forced to hide it because of Queen Shuriki's ban on magic. But that didn't stop him from practicing in secret.

Elena's family/The Royal Family

Lillianna Valenzuela and Rachel Zegler as Isabel Castillo Flores. Age range (10-22). Valenzuela as Isabel ages 10-14. Zegler as Isabel ages 15-22. Princess Isabel is Elena's little sister. With a mind for science and engineering, she becomes Avalor's Royal Inventor. She, along with her maternal grandparents, was imprisoned in an enchanted painting where none of them aged for 41 years.

Tony Plana as Francisco Flores and Alma Martinez as Luisa Flores. Age range (old enough). Francisco and Luisa are the maternal grandparents of Elena. Francisco is a member of a very old noble Avaloran family. He had a sister, Josefina Flores (oc) who married a baron from the Magical Forest. Their great granddaughter is Ella. Luisa is from another Avaloran noble family, but the family fell on hard times. Luisa's grandparents opened up a chocolate shop, La Vida Dulce, which was closed down during Shuriki's rule. At some point Luisa reopens the shop. Francisco and Luisa were both members of the Grand Council.

David DeSantos as Esteban Flores. Age range (50s-60s, but appears 30s-40s because he exfoliates). Esteban is the maternal first cousin of Elena and Isabel. His mother, Margarita, was the sister of their mother, Lucia. When Esteban was little, his parents died in a blizzard at sea. He was raised by his grandparents. As a teenager, he felt unseen and desired power. He agreed to help Shuriki invade Avalor in exchange for political power under her reign. He made Shuriki promise that his family would be unharmed. Shuriki had no intention of keeping the promise and assassinated his aunt and uncle, Queen Lucia and King Raul. Esteban was the only member to age during Shuriki's 41 years of rule. Around 3 years after Shuriki's defeat, Esteban's involvement in her take over was revealed and he was banished from Avalor. His family did eventually forgive him and he was welcomed back home.

Ella is good with a sword, but we don't know how she learned.

We know from Alice that Cecelia died valiantly fighting the Jabberwock. It had attacked during a tea party and a sword can be spotted among the wreckage.

Could have possibly been Cecelia's sword. (And the sword Alice used to kill the Jabberwock.)

As a little girl, Elena learned swordplay from her mother, Queen Lucia.

If Cecelia and Elena were second cousins around the same age and Cecelia spent time in Avalor, then maybe Lucia could've also taught Cecelia swordplay. And it was something Elena and Cecelia did together as kids.

Ella learned to swordfight from Cecelia. Who was taught, along with Elena, by Lucia.

If Ella were related to Elena of Avalor she would be her second cousin once removed. Elena Castillo Flores has a materal grandfather named Francisco Flores. He has a sister Josefina Flores. (Not in the show, it's just part of the headeanon.) Josefina marries a baron from the Magical Forest. Avalor and the Magical Forest are realms in the New Fairy Tale Land and are seperated by a sea. Josefina moves into her husband's, Riccardo Avellano, manor. They have a daughter Julia Avellano Flores who became the baroness after her parent's death. Julia eventually married a wealthy merchant who took her name. They had a daughter, Cecelia Avellano Flores, who inherited the barony. Josefina, Riccardo and Julia are all OCs, but Cecelia is a canon character in "Once Upon A Time." Her last name is never given.

Back up the family tree, Francisco - a nobleman- marries Louisa whose family owns a chocolate shop in Avalor City. Louisa takes Francisco's name and they had two daughters, Lucia and Margarita Flores. Margarita marries a man whose name is never named in "Elena of Avalor." She has a son named Esteban. When Esteban was little, his parents were in the northern sea when they were hit by a blizzard and their ship sank. After his parents death, Esteban was taken in by his grandparents. Lucia married Raul Castillo the king of Avalor and they had two daughters, Elena Castillo Flores and Isabel Castillo Flores. The princess are six years apart with Elena being the oldest. Elena and Esteban are close in age as is Cecelia.

For Elena's 15th birthday, her parents gave her the Amulet of Avalor. A magical necklace that would protect its wearer. Cecelia, 14 at the time, was a guest at the party. A year later, Avalor was invaded by the sorceress Shuriki. She killed King Raul and Queen Lucia. When she tried to kill Elena, the Amulet protected Elena by trapping her inside it. Francisco, Louisa, and Isabel were protected by the Royal Wizard, Alacazar, when he trapped them in a painting. They were protected by powerful magic that Shuriki couldn't break. Shuriki took control of Avalor.

Word about Avalor's shift in power spread. Rumors and lies were spread and people believed that royal family met a tragic accident. And that Shuriki had been elected as the new ruler. Cecelia wrote to Esteban frequently, but never heard back. Unbenowest to her, Esteban had helped Shuriki invade Avalor. Eventually, Cecelia stopped trying and went on with her life. When she was 18, she met a young man named James Dufour. After a one night stand, she became pregnant. James never knew about the baby because he had gone to war. Cecelia had a daughter, Ella Avellano Flores. Ella is a short form of Elena. Cecelia named her daughter in honor of her second cousin whom she believed had died.
