he’s known that he was different from the beginning, but, to be fair, that’s nothing special.

cress lee. ravenclaw. one of the student leaders of the death eaters. ‘muggle’-born. is this hypocritical and against his interest? well yeah. duh. does he care?

the words i think of most when cress comes to mind are boundless. breathless. he’s a ravenclaw to the core, someone who adores the pursuit of knowledge... no matter the cost.

ill do a quick blurb of his personality bc it all takes a turn from here on out. driven. meticulous. wry. witty. persuasive. loves debates. loves philosophy. loves a good practical joke. curious. devoted. dutiful. at times, lazy, especially when it comes to schoolwork. a little cocky. normal 16 year old boy minus the whole... committed to an evil classist racist organization.

really good at duelling. loves magic in all forms. favorite subject is defense. least favorite is history of magic.

born to a squib mother and a squib father. its a sweet love story, honestly. he’ll tell you it if you ask.

here’s the start: boy meets girl. in a world where not much makes sense, they do.

here’s the breakdown: boy and girl have baby. baby gets magic. boy and girl weep.

out of joy? out of grief? look, when the wizarding world has taken so much from them already, is it a gift or a curse to be pulled back in?

the story from here is simple: he’s barely three when he starts showing signs of magic. his parents quit their jobs in the muggle world and work as nonmagical labourers in the wizarding one, so cress will grow up surrounded by the world of wonder that they did-- only this time without the waiting for a letter that never comes. the wishing for the thing that never happens. the wanting something that you can never have.

cress collins lee will get to do everything they dreamed of doing. and even more importantly, he promises them. he wants to do it.

look-- blood purity? irrelevant. antiquated. for years, he watched his parents slave away to just be a part of a world that their blood, by any sense of the word, gave them rights to.

call him what you will. he’ll agree. his blood is filthy and he is proud of it. in the end, all that matters is ability in magic. plain and simple. blood status means nothing without the firepower to back it up. the respect he has is earned, not given. that’s the way he wants things.

he joined the death eaters fairly early on. and it’s very likely that it was a surprise, even to his friends.

sure, he doesn’t believe in /everything/ that the death eaters supposedly do, but-- they are doing what no one else dares to do. tell the wizarding world to change.

the other side thinks that the death eaters are the bad guys, but they’re not any better. the muggles suffer from ailments that the magical world has cured. wixen keep things from them just to be cruel. wixen even keep things from themselves, place rules and regulations on things that could make everyone’s life better.

is that not cruel? is that not inhumane?

there are problems in the wizarding world running deep below the surface that the both sides are content to ignore. at least the death eaters are going to shake things up at all.

and cress has done the math. if everything falls apart, he can pick through the rubble and get what he wants. if the death eaters win, he can try and push his agenda all the while remaining on top. and regardless--- he gets what he wants: the opportunity to explore dark magic.

he’s been curious about it ever since he first heard of it. and though he DOES care about the societal ills that he says he wants to fix, is the idea that something is off-limits not the greatest injustice of all? there is no morality to the pursuit of knowledge. how dare they try to make it seem that way.

you don’t understand, you see -- you’re all too close to the situation.

both sides. mcgonagall’s army, the death eaters. they fight a war they cannot hope to win. they are blinded too much about who they are. cress only cares about-- who he will become. what he will know.

of course, he’s not blind to the horrors the death eaters have committed. but -- do the rest of them really think they’re better than that? they hide magic from the world when they know how much it would make life better.

just look at how it has made his----

(tw body image/minor horror, mentions of magic altering the body.) he was born with progressive hearing loss and is deaf. He uses magical hearing aids (essentially a noninvasive cochlear implant). He still knows sign language, but usually has no real need to use it-- as there is not any/many people fluent in it in the wizarding world.

he is trans. (for more specifics, he identifies as genderqueer and uses he/him). the magical world has made transitioning infinitely easier. (end tw)

wars don’t end with prophecies. they end when injustice ceases to exist. and that’s not going to happen unless the whole world crumbles. so that’s what he’s going to hope for. regardless of what the rest of the death eaters want, the future he fights for- as he will tell you- is more equal that yours.

in the end, what makes magic dark? he asks. who draws the line? if you falter when you answer, he seizes the conversation. then there is no line to draw, he utters forcefully, then there is no line to cross.

no more boundaries. no more limits. no more rules.

as surely as the rivers run, change is coming.

cress has no intention of being left behind.

The following is a Facebook status survey thing that I answered that surprisingly got more likes than most of my posts, especially for being long. I thought I'd go in depth on here.

In honor of Valentine's Day, all couples: Make this your status and answer honestly! [Or don't. Live your truth.] Just for fun [I never post about Brett, he has no social media and hates pictures. So here is a glimpse into us but is still mostly about me because I don't think he's comfortable with facts about him on my TL. I'm with the idea of having a my secret boooOOOOooooyfriend [sang to tune of secret lover].] Who's older? Me, by a couple moths I was born in July and he was born at the end of November. I'll admit it, it's shallow but I'd prefer him to be older or way younger? Or not? It actually really doesn't matter but I guess I've still bought into a patriarchal idea of being taken care of. It's not uncommon in Filipino culture for the woman to make more money. I think Filipinos in general are really caring and society accepts them more in those types of positions? Or rather men don't like to take jobs as teachers or nurses or nannies? I wish I took this position with brett more. I think about going to school and making tons of money but also I'm like, eh what for? I'm having a current crisis of what should I do with money and my life etc. I wish he was more ambitious to motivate me or for me to be more taken care of. Who was interested first? Brett Ah. I've posted about how brett and I met. I think he had the best timing because if I met him any earlier I wouldn't have been ready. Actually I still don't think I'm ready! I have a lot of self doubt about my relationship skills. I think he does too sometimes so I try to be really supportive. He already knows my grievances haha. Last holiday we talked about celebrating Festivus where they have an "Airing of Grievances". He said I would have a LOT with a laugh. He would have literally nothing to say about me. Or practically nothing. They're mostly about him being cleaner. I do think he'd enjoy being more social, but I want that to come in it's own time. I actually don't want him to change too much. It's sweet he's humble and quiet. And I know he doesn't enjoy being uncomfortable! I want him to test his boundaries just like I do mine. How long have you been together? 7 months, by the end of this month it will be the longest I've ever been with someone. He had a high school/college gf for a year. Married? [insert Lana Kane gif] NUUUUUUUPE More sarcastic? It could go either way. He's much more dry than I am. I laugh at my own jokes which really diminishes the sarcasm. Who makes the most mess? Him. Who has more tattoos? We both have zero. I have way more scars because he's pasty. Plus my moles. Better singer? [closes eyes] [brings fist inch from mouth] [clears throat] Mi mi mi mi miiiiiiiiiiiii Hogs the remote? I'm happy with anything so he always chooses Better driver? Him, you g-d racists, are you happy? Spends the most? Me Smarter? A real toss up but I'd say me. I have much better attention to detail for being blind and my deductive reasoning is better. He doesn't like to speculate, which I admire sometimes. I think I'm just more confident. Most common sense? See last question. What are your middle names? I had to ask him, it's Joseph. Do you have any children together? I get real intense food babies with him! Did you go to the same school? Nah Who is the most sensitive? I'm definitely more emotional, but his resting state is uncomfortable and the quotient raises real easy! Where do you eat out most as a couple? We rarely eat out. I feel guilty because I dragged him to dinosaur BBQ recently to meet my friends Elisa & Charles and I guess I kept pointing out how much he hated it, haha. Where is the furthest you two have traveled together? Queens. Long Island city. For my birthday. Or the aforementioned dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. Who has the craziest exes? Me. Especially if you include guys I've just dated non exclusively. Who has the worst temper? I have once screamed "I HATE YOU!" at him bc he didn't move a non working giant fridge in his hallway and I had to smash through and all my stuff fell out of my bag. I said sorry in the same breath. Who does the cooking? Me? Recently he started getting frozen food and eating that and I suppose I "cook" that. Who is more social? Hahaha duh. Moi Who is the neat freak? More me but I can be real cluttered. I'm pretty clean about kitchens/bathrooms. I'll never leave a dirty dish somewhere. Clothes and papers tho... Who is the most stubborn? Me Who wakes up earlier? Brett Where was your first date? Union Hall, park slope. He wore a tie. ☺️😻😊 Who has the bigger family? It's oddly equal. Both of us has older bros by 6 years, dads are one of 11 and mom is of 5. No kidding. Do you get flowers often? He just bought me a flowering plant for Valentine's Day Who does the laundry? He drops his off all the time but I actually meticulously do mine. Also we don't live together. Who's better with the computer? Eh. It's probably equal. Who drives when you are together? N/A (live in NYC and we both never drive) Who picks where you go to dinner? Him, see remote question. Who wears the pants in the relationship? I reject this question's sexist implications and it's me. Who eats more sweets? Me unless you count his coke a cola habit, than him by faaarrr
