13.) What's their comfort item? (Teddy, jacket, etc)
We're again going to focus on Semi-Feral Polaroids Eshra for this one, since he's actually the only other one to even have a comfort item, and it's absolutely Nardo's scarf or one of his hoodies. Honestly anything that smells like Leonardo is a comfort to him, but those are his favorites.

About the ask game,
I assume that Eshra chews the seeds when he eats watermelon
Just cromch cromch
He doesn't chew them but...
...Well, how do you think trees primarily spread their seeds where he's from? ;)

Can I ask Eshra 3 and 4 for the OC ask?
3.) Do they have any hobbies?
Obviously Eshra loves to dance, but that's practically a lifestyle more than a hobby at this point. He also enjoys yoga and tai chi, and his favorite downtime activity is reading.
In Semi-Feral Polaroids, Nardo also gets Eshra into tele-novelas. No, Eshra didn't expect it either.
4.) What's their morning routine like?
Let's do this one for the (currently unnamed, lol) AU I've got going on with @sinestrosmind!
Eshra is still a morning person (we hates it, precious), and again the first order of business is some morning cuddles. Then he and Chief either share a shower -- this is reserved for lazier days for... reasons... -- or Eshra pops down to Hueso's while Chief showers to get their morning coffee.
After getting back, he makes sure Chief eats something -- no, you cannot just drink your breakfast, Chief -- then goes for his morning run/parkour session while Chief takes care of work-related things. After that is his own shower, followed by yoga or tai chi (some things are universal), and from there he kind of plays it by ear for the rest of the day.

4.) What's their morning routine like?
This is another one that varies depending on what Eshra you're asking about. Soooo... for funsies, let's think about Semi-Feral Polaroids!
(The Leonardo referenced throughout is f!Leo)
Eshra is always an early bird (gross), so typically he wakes up early. Unless he has something pressing on his schedule, the first few minutes at least are spent kind of lazily, enjoying the waking up process and cuddling with Leonardo. Eventually, however, he's coaxed out of bed, and he and Nardo go for their morning... well, run for Leonardo, parkour for Eshra, because that boy just can't keep his feet on the ground.
After that, they get a coffee from their favorite coffee shop in the Hidden City, because of course their route takes them past it, and then it's home to shower, followed by either yoga or chores, specifically cleaning for Eshra. He actually loves that chore, because it keeps him moving and he can lose himself in his music in the process. That's probably a good thing considering he lives with four teenagers and a cleanliness-casual rat man.

2.) What would their favorite book/movie be?
Eshra's favorite movie would be a horror movie, I think. The boy's an adrenaline junkie at heart, so he'd love being spooked! Especially if he had someone with him he can conveniently cling onto during the scary parts. ;)

1.) What's a song that makes you think of your oc?
Oh, this is an easy one. "Stamp on the Ground" by ItaloBrothers, 100%. It's happy and bouncy and made to be danced to, perfect for a happy, bouncy parrot who loves to dance.

2.) What would their favorite book/movie be?
13.) What's their comfort item? (Teddy, jacket, etc.)
17.) What did they want to be when they were little?
23.) How do they sleep? (In what position, how many pillows, night light, sounds, etc.)
2.) What would their favorite book/movie be?
Eshra's favorite book would definitely be some kind of modern M/M romance. You know the kind: lots of hurt/comfort, Found Family tropes as far as the eye can see, plenty of steam, and of course a guaranteed HEA. He's a sucker like that.
13.) What's their comfort item? (Teddy, jacket, etc.)
So the interesting thing is that this varies from iteration to iteration. Lost & Found Eshra ends up with a couple, specifically the purple headphones Donnie made for him and the blue, red, and orange glowstick-style necklace and tail rings he ends up adopting as regular accessories. They become little tangible symbols of affection for his new pack and physical reminders of the bonds he's formed with them.
17.) What did they want to be when they were little?
This isn't going to be any kind of surprise, but definitely some kind of entertainer, probably a dancer. Thankfully in his culture, the arts are (or... were...) highly valued, so it's not like his parents would have been praying for him to change his mind and become an engineer or something instead.
23.) How do they sleep? (In what position, how many pillows, night light, sounds, etc.)
If alone? Fitfully, curled up on his side, and surrounded by pillows and blankets (he loves to nest). Sounds, even just the normal sounds of the Hidden City at night, would bother him, but it'd still be better than silence.
With someone? He's an octopus, nuzzled up and tangled up with his bedmate, platonic or romantic. Still loves nesting -- to the point where a circular bed is preferred but he can work with anything. He finds the sound of a bedmate's breathing and heartbeat to be the best white noise in the world.

2. Has your OC ever killed someone?
12. If your OC was arrested, what would the charges be?
14. What is your OC's "villain song"?
2. Technically no? Krang aren't people, after all. :)
That only applies to Apocalypse Eshra anyway. And I suppose Back with a Vengeance Eshra has probably had a few people killed on his behalf, but he prefers not to bloody his own claws. Do you know how long it took him to get that marble effect on his nails just right?
Neither canon nor Semi-Feral Polaroids Eshra has killed anyone.
12. Breaking-and-entering, burglary, pick-pocketing, public disturbance, possibly public indecency, whatever the charge would be for treating apartment buildings and businesses as his own personal parkour courses...
14. Psh, only one? Then I think it's got to be Emeline's STRUT, because our Back with a Vengeance boy is turned up to 11.

🪨 Someone gifts your OC a shiny rock. What do they do with it? (don't eat it don't eat it don't eat it don't ea)
📚 Your OC has to improvise a 10 minute lecture about a topic of their choosing. What do they chose?
🌌 If your OC has a nightmare, what’s it most likely about?
🪨- ...He's gonna eat i-- no, he's not that kind of bird. He's gonna keep it, either because it was a heartfelt gift somehow, or because someone was trying to play a prank on him (haha look at the goofy bird distracted by shiny things) and he's going to treasure this rock forever just to spite them. ...Or maybe because he's a goofy bird who is distracted by shiny things. Depends on the day, really.
📚 - Why it's really, really weird that people keep expecting him to wear pants. It's impossible to tell if he's serious or not.
🌌 - Sigh. His brother. Always his brother. Specifically their last encounter, the explosive fight that was the catalyst for him leaving home in the first place. He'll occasionally have bad dreams about more nebulous things like abandonment or isolation, but it's only his brother he has true nightmares about, the ones that leave him gasping, shaking, and suffering phantom pains, too upset to go back to sleep.

🎻 VIOLIN — does your oc play any instruments? what is their skill level (beginner/intermediate/advanced/virtuoso/etc)?
💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know.
💤 SLEEPING SIGN — is your oc a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? how are their sleeping habits?
🍔 HAMBURGER — is your oc good at cooking? are they good at baking? which one do they prefer?
🎻 - He does not! Eshra can sing in the natural way basically all his species can, and he can dance to just about any music you put on, but he can't play an instrument.
💯 - Fffff. Uh, let's see... Oh!
He'll wear claw caps (think the kind you can put on a cat's claws to prevent scratching) if he knows he's not going to need his claws, like a lazy day in the lair, and he also loves painting both his claws and his toe talons.
He regularly snacks on chili peppers, not just to horrify his capsaicin-vulnerable friends and family, but also because peppers are great for keeping his feathers vibrant and shiny!
He has a spot on the left side of his neck, right where it meets his shoulder, that is basically an "on" button. He's, uh. He's very protective of it.
💤 - It varies. If he's alone, Eshra is quite a light sleeper because he instinctively feels ill-at-ease and vulnerable. With someone he trusts nearby? Oh, he zonks. Also he's an octopus in his sleep, so anybody sharing space with him better be okay with zero personal space.
Generally his sleep habits are... pretty okay? He's more an early bird than a night owl (gross, couldn't be me) simply because his eyes are built for daylight even more than a human's are, but he's perfectly okay adjusting his schedule as need be. He doesn't typically have sleep problems like insomnia, but he does have nightmares. Pretty bad ones, actually...
🍔 - He is good at cooking! It's a skill he's only picked up in the last few years when he was on his own and having to fend entirely for himself, and he's found he enjoys it, especially recipes where he can be more creative and free form.
He doesn't really do much baking, partly because it's a lot more exact that just throwing a bunch of ingredients together and seeing what happens, but also because cereal grains in general just aren't on his cultural radar (although he is a sucker for Asian noodle dishes like ramen or pad thai).

🍍 [PINEAPPLE] Pineapple on pizza or not?
🥦 [BROCCOLI] What do they hate about humanity/their species?
🥔 [POTATO] What do they have that others see as a flaw, but they don't care about?
...Man, I hate you, lol.
🍍 The only easy answer: absolutely! If introduced to it (by Leo, most likely, because of course by Leo), Eshra loves pineapple on pizza. (I also love pineapple on pizza and I will die on this hill.)
🥦 This is... complicated and ultimately situational, but in the last few years Eshra's come to... maybe not hate, but to a degree resent his species' biological predilection towards being group-minded and pack-focused, after seeing how it can be manipulated in the worst way. To say anything more would be super spoilery (and I do want to tell that story... someday).
🥔 His clothing, lmao! It's not so much of a problem with the turtles, who also wear next to nothing most of the time, but to humans in particular, Eshra's lack of modesty is embarrassing. He just doesn't see the point in covering up unless he's actively protecting himself from something like the weather.

@ Eshra fear: What is your OC's greatest fear? What do they do when confronted with it? Are they open with their fear, or do they hide it away?
not the yellow lantern themed mfer askin about FEARS lmaoooo
Oooof.
Eshra's greatest fear, hands down, is isolation. Not separation, necessarily -- he can handle being separated from his pack, although he's never happy about it -- but truly lacking or losing bonds and connections. His brain quite literally can't handle it for long, and when confronted with it (as happens in his canon, in fact), he quite literally starts going off the deep end, in minor ways at first, such as increased risk-taking behavior, but then more seriously as time goes on, up to and including complete loss of sanity.
As far as how open he is about it... it depends. In general it's not something he wants to think about, let alone talk about, but he'll open up and be vulnerable with someone he's particularly close to. It takes a lot of trust for him to go that deep into his psyche, though.

The Anavri
A basic (but probably still overly detailed!) overview of Eshra's species. This was originally written with the Mass Effect universe in mind, hence my efforts to keep it... biologically believable, as well as a few references to ME-specific things. It's also still something of a work in progress as I decide on or discover more aspects of the species. :)
Most of it is under the cut because as I was creating this post I realized holy hell, it's long.
Tumblr media
SPECIES: Anavri HOMEWORLD: Laethis, Corus System, Heleus Cluster
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: The anavri are a bipedal dromaeosaurid species, with a coat of short downy feathers, feathered crests, and long tails. Their upper limbs are unique, with a structure somewhere between Earth's bats and birds: like bats, they have five digits, with their opposable thumb and first two fingers forming a hand, but like in birds, the bones of their fourth and fifth digits are fused and form the structure supporting a feathered wing. Anavri never had the ability to truly fly, having evolved from a terrestrial ancestor akin to Earth's ancient dromaeosaurs, but they can glide proficiently on planets with lower gravity, such as their own. Their lower limbs are digitigrade, and each of their four toes, including the dew claw, is tipped with a sharp claw to assist with grip both on the ground and when climbing trees. They are a lightly built species in general, and average between 5-6 feet tall, with only exceptional individuals ever breaking 6 feet. Their shorter body feathers are various shades of white, black, gray, or brown, while the longer feathers on their crests, tails, and wings can be any of a wide variety of colors; most anavri tend towards bright jewel tones, aside from those few hailing from polar climes, where neutral colors are more prevalent.
Anavri are ultraviolet-sensitive thanks to a color receptor in their eyes that humans lack. Compared to humans, they have incredible vision, particularly for movement; an above average sense of smell; and average hearing. Anavri evolved to rely mostly on their vision, which allows them to both track their small, quick-moving prey, and to better read others' body language, particularly from a distance. While their sense of smell does help them to more easily forage for the nuts and fruit that make up part of their diet, its main purpose is to identify other anavri, in particular to avoid inbreeding in a culture where blended and overlapping families are common.
As Laethis is mostly tropical or subtropical, anavri evolved to be well-suited to hot, humid conditions, and for the most part they dislike climates that are dry, cold, or both, although they are perfectly capable of operating or even living in such conditions.
BEHAVIOR: Life on Laethis is dextro-amino-acid-based. Anavri are omnivorous with a preference for fish, insects, birds, eggs, fruit, and nuts. Laethis is primarily covered by oceans and massive forests, meaning a distinct lack of space for both agriculture and larger animals the anavri might prey on, although the latter isn't unheard of. A higher oxygen level also means invertebrates grow quite large; among forest-dwelling populations, arthropods often make up the bulk of an anavri's diet. As such, anavri have remained primarily a hunter-gatherer species, although the encouragement and tending of natural groves of fruit and nut trees is common.
Anavri mate for life, and polyamory is as common as monamory, with bonds being cemented and reinforced by the instinctual creation of a unique song. They are oviparous and lay a single, large egg at a time. While some anavri have come to prefer incubators, most still practice traditional nest-sitting, a duty shared by both (or all) of the egg's parents.
SOCIAL GROUPS: Having evolved from highly social pack-hunting predators, the anavri are a group-minded species. An individual anavri (the plural and singular forms of the name are the same) is part of what is still called a pack, usually made up of 6-12 individuals - although larger ones can approach double that - and consisting not only of family but often close friends as well. Packs living together usually end up forming a colony, which can be considered analogous to a human town or city. Colonies send representatives to the central Senate, and the Senate in turn is led by a small Council of members elected from the colony representatives.
The anavri are equally at home on the ground or above it, and this, combined with the lack of open land, means their colonies tend to grow up, rather than out. In addition, with the advent of space travel almost all of what little open land there is on Laethis has been devoted to ship construction and spaceports. As a result, the anavri population has stayed relatively small compared to other spacefaring species.
THE HAAN: Inside a pack, a few members might form a haan, a very close knit group of 3-5 individuals who are typically the same age and have often been together since fledgling-hood. The bonds usually last their entire lives, and any children born to members of the haan are considered children to them all. Thus, anavri routinely have more than two parents. Not all anavri become part of a haan, but it's common enough that the children of haans are as commonplace and unremarkable as the children of only a bonded pair.
When an anavri is the offspring of a haan, they use body language, such as feather position, to indicate which specific parent they might be talking about. This often creates confusion when communicating with species lacking understanding of anavri non-verbal communication.
(Eshra, for example, has three parents: his mother, who laid his egg; his father, who is pair-bonded to his mother; and his other father, who is the other member of their haan. His biological father happens to be his mother's bondmate, but that isn't always or even often the case, and Eshra certainly doesn't care which of his fathers actually sired him, nor does any other anavri child.)
CULTURE: A combination of Laethis' hot, humid environment and the anavri's need for freedom of movement has resulted in an overall preference for light, loose clothing that doesn't restrict their range of motion. Some species tend to view anavri clothing -- or lack thereof -- as unseemly, or even scandalous; humans in particular often have a negative reaction to anavri fashion, much to the confusion and amusement of the anavri themselves, for whom clothing is usually an expression of individuality first and protection second, with "modesty" rarely being on the radar.
TECHNOLOGY: Technologically, anavri are on par with the other species seen in Mass Effect, minus interstellar travel: they are a spaceflight species, but the Scourge appeared not long after they achieved it, cutting off their system from the rest of the cluster. As such, while they've managed to colonize two worlds and various moons in their own system, they haven't been able to venture further. Interplanetary travel is common.
While not common, it isn't unheard of for anavri visiting other planets to employ personal mass effect fields to account for higher gravity.
INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER SPECIES: Once introduced to the cluster at large, anavri discover they have a harder time communicating with the other races than average, because so much of their communication is built around body language that most other species can't mimic: hands, tails, feathers, and even head position are all key parts of anavri communication. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this means they get along very well with the elcor, as the elcor's similar use of subtle body language allows them to pick up on it more easily than other species, while the anavri's keen sense of smell lets them read elcor pheromones with impressive accuracy.
Anavri also get along well with turians. While the anavri are far less militaristic than the turians, both species have similar group-minded cultures. Much common ground is also found thanks to anavri and turians being dextro-based lifeforms in a universe that prefers levo-amino acid.

Dossier: Eshra
Tumblr media
Name: Eshra Gender: Cis Male Species: Anavri Yokai
Basic Concept: if a velociraptor and a cockatoo had a really gay baby. clever, showy, neurotic if isolated, and basically velcro if he likes you but will probably wreck your stuff if he's pissed off and he'll make uncomfortable eye contact the entire time
Height: 4'11" (teenager) to 5'6" (adult) Colors: White body, blue and green crest/wings/tail Eye Color: Honey gold Piercings: Tongue barbel
Physical Description: Eshra resembles an anthropomorphic dromaeosaur in basic shape, with a lean, athletic build; three-toed digitigrade feet; three-fingered wing-like arms; and a long, muscular tail ending in a roughly spade-shaped tuft of feathers. In lieu of hair (or... nothing at all), he has a crest of feathers similar to a cockatiel's that can be raised or lowered at will or on instinct. This crest is an incredibly important part of how Eshra displays emotion: it stands up and flares when he's angry or surprised/startled ("look bigger" instinct), stands up more narrowly and even quivers when he's particularly happy, and lays very flat against his head and neck when he's scared ("look smaller" instinct) or sad. It can even betray him(!) by giving away more of his emotional state than he might prefer.
Personality: As a teenager, Eshra is good-natured and happy-go-lucky, with a side of snark. His easygoing nature makes him generally willing to roll with whatever shenanigans are going on around him. He's very physically affectionate and family-oriented; his biology as part of a pack-minded species practically demands it. The downside to this is that he's susceptible to emotional and mental instability and breakdowns if isolated for extended periods of time. He loves music and dancing, although he doesn't have what you could call a concrete style. He just likes to vibe and boogie. He's chatty enough, but he also communicates extensively with body language, particularly with his crest and tail. There's a definite learning curve on both sides when communicating with those who lack either or both (which is… basically everyone).
As an adult in the Bad Future™, he's tried to hold on to his personality, although it's become decidedly muted, and his intense drive to protect his pack has led to the development of a definite vicious streak, usually only seen on the battlefield… but sometimes off it, too. His adopted family are the ones most likely to still see the real him, and he still has the same warm and affectionate bonds with them -- he would have lost his mind years before without those connections -- but the loss of family and friends has wounded him just as deeply as it has the others. The rest of the world typically sees simply a focused, no-nonsense warrior. He speaks less to non-family, and often the only clue outsiders get to his mood is from watching his crest or tail. War is hell, especially when you started fighting it at 16.
In general, Eshra leans more "feral" in behavior than, for example, the turtles or a typical yokai. He communicates with sound and body language a lot, particularly when his emotions -- either good or bad -- are high. Anger is expressed with a flared crest, exposed teeth, brandished claws, etc. Happiness or affection includes things like chirping, trilling, chirring, and grooming. This gets more pronounced in the Bad Future™.
Preferred Weapons: Wind and fire wheels Combat Style: Agile and adaptable, with lots of lower body use in the form of kicks and leg- and tail-sweeps. Not dissimilar to capoeira. Being less physically sturdy, he tries to avoid staying in close range with large, powerful opponents for long. He excels at team-based combat, often showing an almost supernatural ability to know where he needs to be and when, but can struggle as a solo fighter; he works best as part of a pack.
Mystic Powers: The manipulation of air both offensively, via turning his wheels into throwing weapons, and defensively, such as forming shields and barriers. Fueled by magic-infused "wind seeds" he buys or (more often) steals, something he hides from his adopted family, letting them believe he has a mystic weapon like they do. Donatello eventually replaces these with Genius Built™ Tech-Wheels (patent pending) that offer the same functions. (Eshra refused to let him add anything fun like laser sights or electrification. There were accusations of never letting Donnie shine. It was awkward.)
Ninpo: In the Bad Future™, Eshra's adoption eventually becomes "official" when he unlocks his ninpo some time after the initial invasion by the krang, although the circumstances weren't… great. His ninpo strengthens his abilities with air currents, allowing him to even more treat gravity as a joke, as well as granting him the ability to form energy "Feather Flechettes" that he can throw like throwing knives or form and fling from his tail. Later on, he learns how to turn these "energy knives" into what amounts to timed explosives.
In the good future, it's unlikely he ever unlocks his ninpo.

:steeples fingers: So I guess today is the day that we learn that Eshra's species both does and does not have breeding seasons.
Today is also the day we learn that males of his species have... anatomy... not entirely unlike sentient anthropomorphic turtles.
