One Piece Chapter 1096 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And we are back
Had a feeling this one would come early though. The Kuma flashback is in swing and we are in a very historically point of intrigue
However it is also 8 weeks since we last saw Nico Robin and it'll likely end up being double digits at this rate
Still, let's not rush this flashback, let's see what it has to offer
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release Also
The trend of monkeys on the cover is ended by Chihuahuas beating Zoro at musical chairs XD Still though top 3
We're back into hunger games as the Celestial Dragons explain how all the inhabitants are 'rabbits' all worth points; 1 hit kills get you a bonus but there are also 150 rare kills worth more, and 13 super rare worth 10,000 points, the same amount Garling was deducted
There's also prizes apparently, sickening stuff
Garling looked a bit like Zoro and Shanks there as he talks big game
Mannmeyer family woman might be interesting, face is obscured, same for gas mask dude
The last one looks kinda like that Whitebeard Commander too
Of course, the natives of God Valley are confused and panicked by the situation, and are offered no mercy by the dragons who simply tell them to give them a good chase
At the Navy, Garp is being called for support, but he's not biting
Rare appearance from Fleet Admiral Kong too
Young Garp is lapping it up by the pool, but he thinks he's being called because of what the Navy did to the Rocks pirates
Seems they stole something, a 'crown jewel' they say
Ironic though that Garp is all 'you can't shake the hive' and then over 30 years later showing up to shake the hive
Seems like the intel was supposed to be kept on the down low though
Garp won't protect the Dragons from Rocks, but he's leapt out of his deck chair for Roger
So much Luffy energy when he's relaxing too, though I guess God Valley was when he started getting more serious
The Rocks pirates are already on the move too, having left Fullalead without the rest of their inhabitants
Ivankov narrates something more true than they realise, this will be a big moment made forgotten history
10,000 civilians hunted for sport, and Oda's not holding back despite current events
Urgh and the slaves all have target marks on their back
Ivankov has to drill home that nobody is going to survive, the idea that they'll be let go if they survive 3 weeks is just a way to satisfy the dragons
Garling has been chasing the bigger prizes and has thus broke even already
All in front of an audience in Marejois via Den Den Mushi too
Ivankov's chains are bitten off by a Shark Fishman, who Ivankov praises, I wonder if that was Arlong and Shyarly's father?
Ginny (they're sticking with the G) is a bit of a thief and an wiretapper it seems, leaking information to the world 2 weeks prior to create chaos while they escape
The plan requires the prizes; Devil Fruits, the Paw-Paw Fruit and the Fish Fish Fruit: Model Azure Dragon, which are at the center of the island
She makes a point in saying that Kaido's is classed among the strongest of Devil Fruits, and that the Paw-Paw Fruit is a secondary plan because it can blast things away
Kuma also volunteers to be a decoy, his strength and bulkiness being cited as increasing his chances to survive
His resolve does impress Ivankov and Ginny too
Rocks are heeeeeere!
Alas we don't see Rocks D. Xebec, but we do see all the youthful members of the crew
Whitebeard reprimands Rocks for running ahead, with Buckingham Stussy hanging off his shoulder
Seemed Stussy had competition from a Kuja, so the big surprise here: Elder Nyon (Gloriosa) was a Rocks Pirate member, not Shakky like the theories
Canon Manga Debut for Shiki as well, as Big Mom and Kaido argue with the group, also Captain John is there drinking much like he did as a Zombie
No sign of who Ochoku was though, could be the guy to Whitebeard's left (our right)
Seems Rocks wasn't here for the Celestial Dragons though, the pirates were looking for something, and they're all gonna fight even each other to get it
Ochoku could also be the 2 people underneath Gloriosa in the 3 way panel, helmet dude or the very shaded hat man
But from the other side: the Roger Pirates!
Tacheless Roger with the Straw Hat, and prime Rayleigh and Gaban, but there's also a big dude, a Viking Dude and someone in a snug coat
God look how much Roger looks like Ace, and he's been itching for a fight all year
We see a couple more God's Knights too, there's a woman and a tall dude? I dunno every time I look it looks like he's beheaded, he doesn't have the armour, but we have the woman
The chaos has earned a reprieve for the inhabitants, the farmers look a tiny bit like the Milk girl Moda from Lulusia
The younger marines don't like their chances
Until Garp arrives!
Gotta have a good reputation if Garp reassures you against Rocks AND Roger
Bogard my man is still there, the others I don't recognize though
Even more carnage leads to Kuma and Ivankov getting the fruits they want
But alas, Child Abuse, Big Mom getting that in early to knock away Ivankov and get the Fish Fruit which she will use on Kaido
Through Ivankov's encouragement, Kuma eats the fruit before Linlin can get to him
But as Ivankov rallies that saving at least 1 person will be a victory, more child abuse! This time Saturn comes to deck Kuma
Man headshots marines, Bonney and Sanji but he went for ol' fashioned fisticuffs with Kuma
There has been a lot of touching tha child here, DON'T TOUCHA THA CHILD!
"I don't understand how someone can be born to be more or less important" god what a line that is
Stood before Saturn, Kuma notes that now that he has power, he's gonna save as many as he can, just like Nika
And Saturn doesn't like that, seems that the idolization of Nika is what led to the genocide of the Buccaneers
ACOC lightning hums around God Valley as Roger and Rocks fight, it seems Rocks was trying to get to something while Roger was trying to interact
But Oda, brilliant but awful as he is, decides that's it, no more God Valley content...
Sir we needed more, we didn't even see Rocks, or why Kaido needed the fruit to survive, or Ochoku, or why it's made out that Garp and Roger were teaming up to protect the Celestial Dragons because clearly they were not
But alas, back at the Sorbet kingdom we have the aftermath
Ivankov laments that Morgans only lapped up Garp's heroics, and that he's a WG kissass
Kuma however is praying in a church, lamenting that he could've saved more
Turns out he saved 500 people though, which is a lot given how many big names were there, and that last we saw he was staring down a Gorosei
Ginny has now nicknamed Kuma the chapter's title, Kumachi, which could be written the same way as Perona's bear Kumacy not entirely sure
But Ivankov adds praise to Kuma's efforts, calling his paws the Hands of Liberation
Ivankov doesn't stick around though, heading off to sea to enjoy their freedom
"I'll never forget your face for as long as I live" oof right in the Marineford
Ginny however opts to stay in Sorbet living in a church with Kuma
Make no mistake though, Ginny's the boss, despite being a third his size she has the age factor
Chopping wood like the SBS artwork of young Kuma as they seek to feed themselves on hard work
Ginny also beats up bullies that throw stones at Kuma thinking he's lying about being 9
But Kuma as a gentle soul uses his fruit to remove the pain
Ginny is a glutton, much like her potential children/clone maybe? As Kuma offers her more of his food
They've both spent at least 5 years as a slave (since both became slaves at 4, and Kuma is 9 while Ginny is somehow 13)
But the sensation of finally feeling full makes Ginny tear up with joy, which of course makes Kuma cry too
So sweet, it's all gonna go to shit ain't it?
Well it was definitely an inviting chapter
Though I am a bit sore that we got blueballed a lot with God Valley, so many questions still left unanswered as Oda teases us. The Devil Fruits as prizes make sense though, wonder if there were more, Rocks was after something after all. Wonder if the Ope Ope no Mi was considered a prize? I doubt the Gomu Gomu no Mi was a prize though think the Gorosei would've wanted that under lock and key, maybe Doffy's fruit? or the Yami Yami no Mi? or Marco's fruit? or that Egg on Roger's Ship during the Oden flashback? Did Garling throw his son up as a prize? Answers Oda you're supposed to give Answers! We got a lot of teases though; God's Knights, other Rocks crewmates, Stussy potentially indeed being a thing with Whitebeard but atm it seems more like she was dangling off him (she was listed as a 'freeloader' in MADS, wonder if clone Stussy will have a larger role too in present because she did get sidelined quickly), also seems like Gloriosa was interested was Whitebeard the man she had love sickness for? Also got potential ancestors who were God Valley slaves. Kuma saving 500 is still super impressive too, how did he get away from Saturn? How many generations of that 500 still exist today?
But we do seem to have the blooming of Kuma and maybe a relationship with him and Ginny. It's unclear but I think the Luffy's mom bit is even lower a possibility now, still thinking that Bonney is a clone of Ginny though, wouldn't mind if she was a biological daughter it'd just make the wording of Kuma being the last Buccaneer a bit weird.
It does further fuel the idea that Kuma is gonna show up in Egghead too, but the flashback only further fuels the layer of tragedy that has befell Kuma, man has suffered so much and he continues to lose so much, this flashback has the capacity to break us.
At the least there's no break, but the wait will be long and painful regardless.

IJN Musashi at anchor outside Hong Kong. The landmass visible in the background is the Dapeng Peninsula. Note the forward trim of the patrol boat near her funnel. This was the vessel that carried an envoy from Hong Kong Governor Mark Young, supposedly to negotiate evacuations.
Japanese sailors later reported that British emissaries explained their boat's trim by saying it had a leaky hull prone to taking on water. In fact, it was loaded with several tons of high explosive. Shortly after Musashi engaged her cranes to take the enemy boat on board, it exploded, damaging her upper decks, destroying the long-range comms antenna and several anti-aircraft guns, and causing the turret at her stern to list to one side. The damage looked more serious than it really was, and initial observers reported that the armored portions of the hull had been damaged, as well as the primary superstructure. In fact, the flagship remained seaworthy and capable of combat— though in an extended engagement such as the British Exile leadership had planned, the damage to her main guns and AA complement would no doubt have left her vulnerable to further attack.
Some historians speculate that the bombs were supposed to explode at the waterline, which, judging by the damage that was done to the battleship's more lightly armored upper decks, could have inflicted a wound necessitating immediate repair and possibly even one that would sink the ship. Alternately, penetrating the stern turret's magazine and causing a secondary explosion could have broken the ship in half.
Besides the pilot and purported British negotiator, both of whom were killed by the blast, seven Japanese sailors died instantly and twenty-six were seriously injured. Of those 26, one was the ship's captain and commander of the overall blockade fleet, Admiral Mineichi Koga, who had left the bridge to meet the negotiators. His injury, and the reluctance of Vice Admiral Shigeru Fukudome to order a retaliatory bombardment, kept the fleet immobilized for over an hour before Admiral Koga's passing.

The man who raised Borsalina and Sakazuki as his own into the Fleet Destroying Monsters they became was Retired Admiral Elias “Kuroryu” Harmon.
A tobacco-chewing, revolver-wielding, cussing bastard who wields one of the rare mythical Zoan fruits, the Ryu Ryu no Mi: Model Fafnir. He takes the form of a massive, fearsome black-scaled, black-flame-breathing dragon, of a majestic western breed.
He was the first Admiral to ever receive a code name and the epithet of Island Destroyer.
Despite his ornery personality, he tends to draw women to him like bees to honey. He’s got a high sex drive (dragons 🤭) and will typically have at least two girlfriends at any time. He’s very straightforward and his girlfriends like that he never lies to them. Most of them also call him unexpectedly charming. They also tend to find his hybrid form very sexy.
He retired sometime after Roger’s execution, ostensibly because he just wanted to retire but there are rumours of a blowout fight between him and Kong.
While Elias has helped the navy numerous times since his retirement, it was always at the behest of Sengoku, Borsalina or Sakazuki. Never Kong. Never the Gorosei.
There are also rumours of an affair between him and Dark Queen Silvers Rayleigh that resulted in Elias fathering Rayleigh’s son Dracule Mihawk...that are definitely, totally only rumours and not at all truth.

Whims & Whispers of the Heart
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ang lihim na pagtingin, kailan aaminin? 13th day of September, on a Wednesday was an indelible memory was etched into my consciousness— I guess until I’m over you, but when will it come? It won’t, I’m afraid so. At first, I thought this was nothing but pure platonic admiration. I mean, what else could go wrong? That was when I knew you felt the same way I feel towards you for someone. It somewhat felt like a prick onto my chest, when I heard your sentiments about her. 6 years— what could possibly match that? Nothing I will ever top. Every time I’m around you, all I hear is about how much you admire that person that I wished I was her. It was hurting, but I learned to accept that. I learned to admire you still. Hearing that you will wait for the time when you mustered up the courage to talk to her, how you kept the things she gave you, how you describe her, how your eyes light up when you do, it made me deepen my affection for you even more. I didn’t want to, but there my heart go mindlessly doing what it wants— beating harder than it ever did. An involuntary surrender to the whims of my heart.
I grew up not believing what men say, as my father was an example. I hated men and their guts, but it was different with you. You showed me how some can be different from others, and I was not wrong for choosing to like you. You made me laugh even when I’m feeling down and yet we aren’t even friends to begin with. From afar, I observed you. Everything you do gives me romantic excitement, even the smallest things. You’re so good at everything you do. You, you, you, you, you, you always crept my mind. Your actions lingers through this in love brain. My eyes light up whenever I hear your name. I feel energized when you’re near me and shy at the same time. I would always not know how to act. What to do?
3 months kick in, as I try to make sense of it all, it gets even harder to get over you. What have you done? I’m still admiring you, scratch that, I still like you. Even with all the times I whispered to myself that I should move on from you, I just can’t. I think about our littlest interactions that means everything to me, all the damn time. The feeling of trying to talk to you without feeling nervous. Walking pass by you thinking of how I look. I have so much to give and tell you that I wish I could do.
10th day of December, year 2023 came. I am writing this for you. My mind tells me— an epiphany that you, in essence, “He is exactly the poem, I wanted to write” What has happened to anti-romantic me? I adored you, you were always so beautiful to me. The moon reminds me of you so much, so pretty, so bright yet so far away from my reach. You were the subject that inspired me to explore literature. For the first time, I learned how to just love; without asking for reciprocation just like what I always think of. It is both wonderful and strange, “I like you unfathomably.” I find myself ensnared in a state of disarray, I’m a mess. How do I tell all these things to you? Just like how heavy the air is, similar to how I feel— the weight of unspoken thoughts. Beneath the orange-hued sky, you alone are the subject of my gaze. When might you catch sight of this? It seems uncertain. This clandestine longing yearns to break free and be proclaimed to all, yet fear and apprehension take precedence, fearing you might distance yourself from me. I prefer to dwell in dreams, to have you with me even for fleeting moments. Amidst the chaotic surroundings, my focus is solely on you. I search for you in every corner of the room. There is a sense of melancholy when you’re not around. If emotions were to plummet irrevocably, is there a chance for you to catch them? I hope that one day, I gather up courage to do so. Minamahal kong estranghero, ikaw lang lagi.

Chapter Three: Resolute
[Part One] [Part Two] [Part Four] [Part Five]
Sakazuki was nervous as he marched down the hospital hallways. It’s been four days since he handed the woman over to the doctor and he felt on edge the entire time. It felt like he was losing time and his mind. He interacted with her once and that was being rather generous with the term interact. Sakazuki should not be this invested.
But he could not stop thinking about that singular moment. He tried not to but her serene face bullied its way into his thoughts. Her eyes haunted him.
It was infuriating.
He ground his teeth together as the air around him began to shimmer. He could feel heat rolling off his shoulders as he gripped the curtain that surrounded her bed. The smell of burning polyester filled his nose as he ripped the curtain back. Small metal rings rained down on him. It sounded ungodly loud in the quiet ward. The ruined fabric fluttered to the ground and for a moment his frustration was gone. He didn’t mean to do that. Yet the guilt and embarrassment vanished as soon as it surfaced.
The bed was empty.
She was gone.
“Oh Vice Admiral Sir, hello.” His blood boiled as he turned towards the nurse. Her face paled as he leaned down. He watched sweat bead down her forehead. She was holding a food tray, soup spilling over as she shook.
“Where. Is. She.” The nurse’s eyes glazed over with moisture as she fumbled over her words.
“She should be…” Her voice came out choked as she shifted to look around him. Her eyes widened as she took in the empty bed. “I don’t know.” Her tone was quiet, strained. His jaw twitched as he stormed past the trembling woman.
Sakazuki should go back to headquarters. He didn’t need to find her. She didn’t actually mean anything to him. She wasn’t his problem. He had work he needed to be doing. Yet when he exited the hospital he didn’t go back to his office. Instead he scanned every face that he could see. Stopped anyone that didn’t immediately leap from his path to question them.
But no one had seen her and he was growing irritated. She was heavily injured! How could no one have noticed her? He needed to find her and he could feel desperation starting to creep in.
“Vice Admiral Akainu Sir!” Sakazuki whirled around, his teeth barred as the approaching officer seemed to stumble.
“What!” he snarled as the younger man straightened his back. His hand flew up in a salute. He had the same look the nurse did at the hospital.
“Fleet Admiral Kong requests your presence immediately, Sir!” He glared down at the soldier. He didn’t have time to go see Kong. He didn’t have the patience to humor the old man but he couldn’t ignore him. Seething he made his way to Marine Headquarters. He hoped she hadn’t made it off of Marine Ford. He hoped that she wasn’t collapsed in some alley.
His knuckles rapped on Kong’s door as he waited. He could hear voices on the other side. They were hushed and he did not have time for this.
“Enter.”
Swinging open the door he felt the air leave his lungs. He felt his irritation melt yet simultaneously grow worse as he was met with the very person he was looking for. She was sat between Vice Admiral Garp and Admiral Sengoku. The two men were caging her in, their legs crossed in a way that made it impossible for her to get up. Her expression was melancholic and disoriented as she gazed at the ground. He had to resist the urge that screamed at him to grab her. Sakazuki had the most detestable desire for her to just look at him again.
“Take a seat Sakazuki.” He was only half listening as he took a seat. His gaze was torn between taking her all in and acknowledging his superior. The air in the room was tense.
“Girl what were you thinking?” Garp threw up his arms as Senkogu pinched the bridge of his nose. The woman wasn’t reacting, not really.
“There is no reason to yell but he does have a point. Ume what were you thinking?” The Admiral spoke quietly as he placed a hand on her shoulder. Two things went through his mind. The first one was a snarling thought of ‘Don’t touch her!’ and the second one was ‘Her name is Ume?’.
“I’m sorry.” Ume muttered as she glanced at the two men. Her head looked heavy as her dark hair acted as a curtain over her face. Garp went to say something but Senkogu spoke first.
“We know but why didn’t you stay put? We left you on Sirona for your own good.” Sakazuki zoned out the men talking and focused solely on Ume. He didn’t really notice the night he found her but she is small, unnaturally so. Her face was gaunt and she looked like a stiff breeze would break her. Her fingers were intertwined and laying limply in her lap. The nails were chipped and her wrists were wrapped in bandages. Bruises peeked out from under the thick gauze.
“What now?” The sound of her voice brought him back to the moment. She was looking up now. Though she still wasn’t looking at him.
“Well now we find another island. One that’s more isolated. How does that sound?” Ume was nodding eagerly. A flicker of contentment crossed her face. It made her look a little bit more alive.
She was going to leave? They were going to hide her away and he would never see her again. He felt his jaw twitch. It would be for the best if she left. He hasn’t been able to focus since finding her. She doesn’t mean anything to him. She didn’t need to be here. But then why did he hate it so much?
“No.” his voice came out more confident and demanding than he was feeling. All eyes snapped to him and finally, finally she was looking at him. Her eyes were wide, it was like looking at the night sky. She was confused. He was too.
“Sakazuki?” He heard Kong question him but he didn’t take his eyes off Ume.
“I’m being promoted soon.” holding her gaze he swallowed thickly. He felt his words getting caught in his throat. He knew what he wanted to say but she was looking at him and it all died on his tongue.
“What does that have to do with anything?” Garp snapped as he leaned forward, his body acting as a shield over her. Sakazuki turned to Kong.
“Tell me Fleet Admiral how has my up and coming promotion been received?” his finger tapped along the arm of the chair. He knows how he is perceived by the public and his fellow Marines. He does his job and he does it right but not everyone sees it that way. He heard his superior let out a hum.
“It hasn’t been the most positive.” He could feel Garp glaring at him.
“I know I’m not the most approachable.” He said his words slowly, ignoring the snort from the Vice Admiral.
“And what? You think Ume not leaving will make you more approachable? How did you come to that conclusion?” Garp rolled his eyes, he was still shielding her from him.
“Well the Marines have been trying to promote a more family oriented image.” He let his words sink in. The tension in the room had begun to dissipate and now it was ramping up again. It was pulled taught, ready to snap.
Sengoku was the one to break it first.
“Are you telling us that you want to marry her?” he was looking at Sakazuki like he had grown a second head.
“Yes.” Garp started yelling. He was yelling at him, at Kong, at the ceiling. Sengoku was trying to calm down his friend and Kong was pinching the bridge of his nose. His eyes were initially following the raving Vice Admiral but then he caught Ume staring at him. She was peering around the older man. Her gaze was hollow, her expression blank. It was unsettling how her eyes bore into his.
“Garp, Sengoku, take her outside. Take a minute and calm down.” Kong barked. Sengoku grabbed Garp, dragging his flailing form across the room. The Vice Admiral was still shouting as he was shoved out the door. Ume followed after them her eyes caught his one last time before she closed the door softly behind them.
The Fleet Admiral leaned back in his chair and sighed.
“You have no idea what you're asking.” he looked tired. His hand ran down his face and seemed to sink further into his chair. Sakazuki grit his teeth. His superior sounded so sure, sounded so absolute that he had no idea what he wanted.
“Yes I do.” his jaw ground together as he tried not to spit out the words.
“No you don’t. And do you know why you don’t?” The way Kong was talking made it sound like he was making a mistake. And maybe he was. This could be a mistake but he didn’t care. He just didn’t want her to leave and he had no other options to keep her. A folder was suddenly being tossed at him.
“Read it and then maybe you can be rational.” his lip twitched as he glared down at the paper. Huffing he opened it, a picture of Ume greeted him. Or well a younger version. Cheeks round with baby fat and eyes wide. She wasn’t smiling, she wasn’t emoting at all actually. Her small face was blank but looked just a bit more alive than she did now. His gaze trailed down the page.
Name: Ume
Note: Surname unknown
Date of birth: Unknown
Note: estimated date of birth July 17th
Age: Estimated age four years old.
Home Island: Redacted
He frowned as he continued reading. He didn’t understand why Kong had shown this to him. Didn’t understand why this would make him think what he was doing was a mistake. But as he got further down something struck him. Haki kept coming up, highlighted in areas and whoever had written this had pressed the pen in hard when underlining the word mutated. There were mentions of high levels of empathy and something about a parasite. That made something roll in his stomach. Yet what made him suck in a sharp breath was the jagged notes on potential infection of other hosts. The hand writing becomes ineligible past that point. But he was able to make out the need for a partner. Closing the folder he let out a low sigh. Kong was looking at him expectantly.
“That was-” he trailed off, mulling over his next word. “Interesting.” he doesn’t feel like that is the right word but it’s the best his mind can supply.
“Interesting indeed.” Kong grabbed the folder, skimming through the contents. “She’s a good kid and now you have an understanding of why you shouldn’t do this.” For a moment, a fleeting speck of a moment he agreed. The Fleet Admiral was still speaking but Sakazuki was only half listening. After reading all of that he was certain that he should retract his statement. Parasite, mutation, and infection swirled around in his mind. He genuinely had no idea what he was getting into. Though as his superior continued to speak, continued to tell him that he shouldn’t do this. Couldn't do this the more he pushed his discomforts down.
He was going to do this.
“Well?” He almost jumped at the sound of Garp’s voice. He hadn’t realized they had come back in. His eyes darted upwards. Sengoku had a hand on Ume's shoulder, her gaze flickered between him and Kong.
Kong opened his mouth, so sure that he had changed his mind. But Sakazuki beat him to it.
“Well I need to improve my image and she needs a partner.” Her full attention was on him now. Her eyes almost coming to life as she stared at him, her mouth partially open. Her expression looked close to awed. He knew the other three men were staring at him, talking even but he didn’t care. His heart was in his throat and his chest was tight. He wanted this and he wasn’t going to back down. There was no second guessing.
This was final.

DARKNESS ARISE
A/n: there was nothing more frustrating. The wait was killing them...
Tumblr media
They were holding their breath. So many of their close friends were gravelly injured. They were anxious, scared. Nothing was worse than losing them: no matter their differences, they were a family. They looked out for each other, but this time it wasn't enough.
The doctor came out, heaving a wary sigh. "They will all recover. The fleet admiral, though, is still in a coma. We don't know when he will wake or if he will wake at all" he said. Fear was getting higher and higher. So many died, and so many more were injured. It was a disaster.
"Thank you, doctor" said Tsuru.
Silence was permeating the room, daunting, threatening them. A ringing snail brought them out of their reverie, Sengoku hurried to answer. His face, though stone-cold and impassible, was morphing into a grimace of anger. He didn't shout, but whatever it was, it wasn't positive. Without turning, he said two words: WG and disappointment.
Shock. They had just been attacked and the WG had the gal to call and complain about their lack of activity? "Let me handle this, II'll talk with Kong and see if we can work out something. Our priority lays with our people, nothing else. Understood?" he said, a cold determination coursing through his veins.
Nodding, they all spread out. Only Borsalino remained. He stood there, facing the door, before he entered. He sat down, watching. Unconsciously, he was turning his ring around.
He had faith. He could only hope.
Meanwhile, Momonga sat down outside. Their home had been destroyed, he could still feel the dust of the rubbles. Although they were safe now, in another base, he couldn't shake the image off his head. Tears started to fall from his eyes, the stress finally getting to him. To all of them, truly. Stainless found him looking out the window, he didn't say anything, simply put his arms around him.
He felt his pain, he understood.
"We will be okay. We are going through a hard time, I know, but we will come out of it, together" he murmured. He needed the assurance as much as his partner. They all did.
While Tsuru studied strategy to rebuild and simultaneously track down Blackbeard, she couldn't help but think about what happened.
Garp helped the younger ones to adjust to the aftermath, telling stories and sharing some advices.
Sengoku, he was trying to save them all, not from any pirates, but from those who controlled the world. He always knew they only see them as personal toys, but there was a limit for everything.
.
.
.
The news made its way around the world, but the reactions weren't what Blackbeard expected.
People united towards a common enemy: after the WG, there was him. Enemy number 1.

❛Did I do good?❜ // A quiet whisper as Rouge's light fades on the childbed
HIT ‘EM WHERE IT HURTS
Tumblr media
ლ.    It was betrayal, he told himself. He knew. He was breaking the rules in a way unlike anything he'd ever done before.. He was going against a direct order that the whole world knew about. If Fleet Admiral Kong or Sengoku found out he wasn’t in the East Blue...
Tumblr media
Garp startled at the sudden question, wondering for a second if it were directed to one of the doctors nearby before realizing he wouldn’t be that lucky. His eyes met hers —   Rouge, she’d called herself. Portgas D. Rouge,  ( another one with that damn initial ).  Her question registered in his mind a second later, shoulders stiffening as it did, because how was he supposed to answer that ?
Good ?  She’d condemned her child the second she’d decided to fall in love with Roger;  a criminal unlike any other. And now, because of her insane plan, she was going to leave their child with him. What was she thinking ?!  Garp had thought he’d only have to protect the damn kid, not raise them !  He wasn’t fit for that, and he had a son who refused to talk to him to damn well prove it and—
“ Yes, ”   he said firmly, his voice unwavering,   “ The Government would never suspect what you’ve managed to do. You’ve saved your child. ”
He winced at the formality of his own tone. Unfitting for him and one he didn’t even use for his superiors, and then winced at the words themselves. What was he saying ?  And yet he didn’t take back a single word. The coat on his shoulders felt more weighted than usual, as though it were judging him —   but what was wrong here ?  Killing pregnant women because of a possibility ?  Killing an innocent baby ?  The things he’d witnessed and heard reported these past months made him sick. Was this really Justice ?  Was it ?
Dammit, Roger. Damn him. Damn the stupid, selfish bastard. For becoming the criminal he did. For having a child. For turning himself in and dying. For falling in love with and then leaving Rouge, and then demanding that Garp protect his damn kid like an idiot, as if it wasn’t high treason —
But there he was, watching over a dying woman   ( too late, he’d been too late. His conflict delaying the decision he’d known the answer to since the second he’d been asked, and he wondered if the guilt he shouldn’t even be feeling would ever subside ),   with undeniable intentions of doing exactly what Roger had asked from him.
Maybe, in that way, he sympathized with Rouge. They’d both been unable to deny the unyielding fool that had been Gol D. Roger.
“ ...He would’ve been proud of you, ”   Garp muttered, unsure if Rouge could even hear him anymore at this point. Because Roger would’ve been proud. The bastard would’ve probably laughed in admiration of her genius, before finding some idiotic way to save her, laws of reality be damned,   “ Your child won’t die today. ”
And that was all he could promise her. I’m sorry, he wanted to say, for not being able to promise more. But for all he acted, he was a realistic man. He couldn’t promise next year, or ten years in the future, or twenty. Arms crossed over chest, hands digging into his own flesh tightly, unable to look away.
He couldn’t promise the future, but he could promise that day. Her child would be safe  ( they were so small )  for a little longer, and he could only pray that it would be enough.

Haven't written JAG fanfiction in a while.
But writing JAG fanfiction for me started in 1998, when a JAG fanfic writer encouraged me to write my own fanfiction.
From there, I've gone from writing fanfiction about JAG to writing Sims fanfiction (illustrated liberally with screenshots from my Sims game).
But I still occasionally still write JAGfic.
Tumblr media
"Bloody hell, Rabb, they made you a Captain?! Jesus Christ. What the hell is this Navy coming to?" That caused Animal to nearly lose it with laughter. A cheery round face with a brusque demeanor. Good ol' Rear Admiral (upper half) Thomas Boone came in through the door, civvies and with the Black Aces patch prominently displayed on the right breast area of his summer-weight CWU-36/P Nomex flight jacket. Three naval aviators, all three former Black Aces. Harm - '90 cruise with that spat against Japan. (patched 1990 after killing a F-2A). Tom Boone (1967-72; 82-85) and Animal (1982-1984 - patched in 1983; 1989-1999).
Each were nursing their drinks. Mac was having a nice soda with a slice of lime. Everybody knew Mac's history with the bottle and every one was discreet about it with everyone pitching in to make sure that Mac, the bride-to-be, was always kept supplied with a non-alcoholic beverage so that she never had to pay for it.
Commander Sturgis Turner was also there passed over once on the deep-select list, he was hoping that his turn would come when the actual promotions for the Academy
Class of '85 would be coming out and the list was posted next year. If passed over there, he'd have two more chances before up or out nailed him.
Tom looked at Harm and then at Animal. Three naval aviator brothers-in-arms, all had served in the same squadron. And all knew each other well. Tom knew that through the old Navy men's Grapevine, that Animal had been posted to London and so had Harm. And being such good friends they were good-naturedly ribbing each other
There had been talk of making the London NAVAIR Attache's position a one-star position for awhile now since the Royal Navy's equivalent position was a commodore. It had been interesting for parity since there had always been a subtle one-up-man-ship with the Royal Navy brass.
And then to throw Tosh at them was really going to salt their goats.
Rear Admiral Kogo Nakamura or Animal's cousin three times removed on the Japanese side of the family was one of the naval commanders that had shelled Hong Kong for the Imperial Japanese Navy during WWII. Animal had found this out and was wincing at the cacophony that was going to erupt from the British Home Office when they found out Animal's lineage on his Japanese side of the family and the fact that Animal was now being posted to London to head the NAVAIR section of the US High Command in Europe.
The CNO was counting on it bras-sing the balls off a gold monkey after all the subtle condescension from the Royal Navy attache towards their USN counterpart being only a Captain. Give them a MOH recipient with a real notorious family history and then while that was making the Royal Navy screech like a bunch of howler monkeys, turn around and promote that Fleet Air Attache-in-Europe to Rear Admiral (lower half) to bring them into parity with the British commodore. Take that.
And truly, the US and the British were brothers-in-arms and what better than occasionally slugging the other in the arm painfully just to let the other know you love them, ya bloody piss-ant!
Tom looked over at Animal with a sardonic grin, "Animal, I hear they're posting you as attache to London as NAVAIRFOREUR. Man, oh, man the Brits are going to have a shit-fit."
"No doubt, sir..." Animal said. "JCS wanted someone notorious in the chair so I guess I'm the one."
Tom grinned evilly. "Notorious is for the guys who carked up the code that allowed the Allies to decipher German transmissions." He chuckled, "Your ancestor shelled the shit out of Hong Kong, I think that's a step above notorious." He patted Animal on the back. "I wouldn't attend the veterans soirees if I were you." He looked at Animal consolingly.
"I'll keep that in mind." Animal said while Harm and Tom grinned. Good ol' Tom's dry humor was always acidly funny.
Harm was looking forward to observing the brouhaha that went on after the British press found out and went on a tear about it. Not to mention that the Naval Air Attache was married to an Austin, a good old English-Irish last name. That would cause just as big a furor. Animal and Harm were gonna have fun in London with their wives.

I grew up not believing what men says, as my father was an example.
It is both wonderful and strange, “I like you unfathomably.”
I find myself ensnared in a state of disarray, I’m a mess.

Wat Phanan Choeng
Wat Phanan Choeng (Thai: วัดพนัญเชิง; pronunciation) is a Buddhist temple in the city of Ayutthaya, Thailand, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River at the south-eastern side of the confluence of the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers.
History / Founding
Built in 1324, some 27 years before the city of Ayutthaya was officially founded, the temple must have been partly connected to early settlements in the area. These notably allegedly included a 200-strong refugee community from Song Dynasty China.
The large wihan, the highest building within the temple complex, houses an immense gilded 19 meter high seated Buddha from 1334 CE. This highly revered Buddha statue is called Luang Phor Toh which means huge or gigantic Buddha statue by Thais, and Sam Pao Kong (Zheng He) by Thai-Chinese. The statue is regarded as a guardian for mariners. Allegedly, prior to the destruction of Ayutthaya by the Burmese in 1767 CE, "tears flowed from the sacred eyes to the sacred navel". The statue has been restored several times in history. King Mongkut named the statue Phra Puttha Thrai Ratana Nayok after its restoration in 1854 CE.
Visit by Zheng He
The temple was visited in 1407 CE by Zheng He, a Chinese Muslim eunuch admiral from Yunnan who leading his second Ming imperial voyage. He bestowed gifts upon the temple in a great ceremony that included Siamese royal participation, and is today remembered by Thai-Chinese visitors who still visit the temple in his honour.

He was originally born as Ma He in a Muslim family and later adopted the surname Zheng conferred by the Yongle Emperor. Commissioned by the Yongle Emperor and later the Xuande Emperor, Zheng commanded seven expeditionary treasure voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. According to legend, his larger ships carried hundreds of sailors on four decks and were almost twice as long as any wooden ship ever recorded.

FIVE DECEMBERS By James Kestrel Hard Case Crime 427 pgs
“Five Decembers” is one of the greatest books we have ever read. It is destined to be a classic of American fiction for so, so many reasons.
It is late Nov. in Honolulu, 1941. Tensions between the U.S. and Japan are reaching a crescendo and the ghosts of the war are once again manifesting themselves. World War I veteran, Detective Joe McGrady is called to investigate the brutal murder of a young couple; their bodies having been discovered in a rickety shack up in the hills of a dairy farm. The boy was American, the girl Japanese and their remains the grisly signature of a sadistic monster. No sooner than McGrady begin his investigation when he learns the male victim was the nephew of an Admiral in command of the island’s pacific fleet. Via this connection, the evidence suggests the killer was in fact a trained spy and had since fled Hawaii for Hong Kong.
At the Admiral’s request, McGrady agrees to take up the chase and is soon packed and saying farewell to Molly, a young college student he’d recently become involved with. His hope is to catch the killer, turn him over to the British authorities and then be home in only a few weeks. McGrady fails to anticipate the attack on Pearl Harbor the following week, Dec.7th that finds him wrongly incarcerated in a Hong Kong jail cell. Unable to convince the Brits of his identity and purpose, he helplessly witnesses the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong and is subsequently captured as a prisoner of war and brought to Japan.
What happens next to McGrady is truly mesmerizing, as Kestrel paints a setting few Americans have ever seen, let alone imagined; Japan during the war years. He masterfully depicts characters from all walks of life attempting to cope with the living nightmare that had seemingly swallowed all reality. The author captures people insightfully, his characters brokenly human regardless of race and all of them are somehow significant to the entire story of McGrady’s personal odyssey. That he survives to return back to Honolulu is a heart-wrenching narrative and only the precursor for the book’s final third in which McGrady, like a dog with a bone, picks up his old case and once again begins his hunt for a killer who had eluded all those years earlier.
“Five Decembers” is a gripping, taught, magnificent saga, unlike anything we’ve ever read in our life. No understatement there. It is a work of power, brilliant plotting, heart, and grace showing all the nobility of mankind as well as the depths of evil into which it can sink. Loves won and lost, enemies and allies encountered, and a finale that will have you transfixed by its sheer, overwhelming beauty. What else can I say except, thank you, James Kestrel, for writing this book.

Note
We've observed this phenomenon once before, back when the Third Fleet and I first arrived. We determined that a monster must be lurking at the center of the effluvium. So chances are, the elder dragon you're seeking is the one lurking in the effluvium. Let's not waste any time. You'll find the evidence at the bottom of the vale.
Within moments he had consumed the Imperial fleet and set about occupying the surrounding Lands, but it was 1 kotoba, and I dont want to be in China?. Commercials! we're not gonna leave you behind? you're determined to go no matter THE hour. Can we try and Capture Zorah Magdaros, I've received quite a disgrace and shows that we are lurking in the Bright sunlight, watching you the three days then someone makes you wear parsley? is it just me, or does this fear was that i had three left and the frontier is crossed between AUSTRIA and hungary.. Well then, let's not waste any time. And as the screaming Fire engine siren filled the air the evidence had vanished from my charred and smoking chair

Chapter Seven: Take me home
[Part Four] [Part Five] [Part Six] [Part Eight]
Sakazuki both wanted to rush home and never leave HeadQuarters. He felt like he was submerged underwater. He didn’t know which was up and the folder under his arm wasn’t helping.
He was getting married today and the little box in his pocket made it impossible to break the surface.
Kong had cornered him in his office and asked him one last time if he was sure. Told him once again that he wouldn’t be able to take it back, said he still had time to call this whole thing off. That he truly didn’t know what he was doing. He had snapped at the Fleet Admiral, he told him that he understood what he was doing. He knew what he wanted and that this was final. Initially Sakazuki was going to work the full day because even if he wouldn’t admit it he was nervous. But after that little conversation he left early. Once this was all over no one would question him. No one would second guess him.
His jaw was tense as he went to unlock the door. There was no resistance when he turned the key. No subtle sound of the lock shifting. The handle started to give under his palm as he tore the door open.
The living room was empty. The kitchen was silent.
None of this was unusual. Ume was quiet, hardly making any noise. Swallowing down the need to call out for her he made his way to the garden. She liked it there, she should be there. But when he slid open the doors it was empty.
“Ume!” He gave in and called out. He didn’t expect a verbal answer but he expected something.
“UME!” ripping the guest door off its hinges was unnecessary, it was beyond uncalled for but he didn’t care. He hoped that he would find a startled Ume and then he could apologize and everything would be fine. But he didn’t. The room was empty.
She was gone.
His heart stopped.
He had to find her.
He will find her.
This was a bad idea. Oh this was such a bad idea. Ume teetered on the knife’s edge of panicking. There was so much going on. So many people feeling so much and it was all just slamming into her unhindered. Regret swirls heavily in her gut as she tries to make herself as small as possible.
Everything is just so loud.
The chatter of passing conversations mix together with the words that never make it out. She wants to go home. Wants to curl up under Sakazuki’s cherry blossom tree and ignore the rest of the world. But when she tries to turn around and make sense of everything she can’t. She doesn’t know where she is and the pressing crowd just made it worse.
Ume felt like she couldn’t breathe. It was all too much. She could feel her vision blurring as she bumped into people. Annoyance lanced across her mind as she unceremoniously pushed people out of her way. Someone was hissing a complaint at her while someone else was muttering under their breath.
Something brushed against her, she thinks it was a hand. Whatever it was, it made her spine go rigid. Anger boils over her thoughts and she feels like a knife was being slipped through her ribs. Her own fear bleeds into her lungs as she throws herself away from that anger. Stumbling over her own legs she slams into a wall. The rough texture of stone rubs against her cheek. It stings but is grounding. Focusing on the prickling pain she cloisters herself away in the dim alley. Sinking to the ground she buries her face into her knees. Her hands come up to cover her ears as she tries to breathe.
In.
One, two, three.
Out.
In.
One, two, three.
Out.
Letting her eyes slip closed she rocks back and forth just trying to breathe.
Sakazuki was trying to be calm. He really was but it felt like he was slowly being unraveled the longer he couldn’t find her. People were practically jumping out of his way as he made his way down the streets. His eyes roamed everywhere, checking every face. He knew the air around him was shimmering and becoming stifling. He could see people pulling at their collars and casting nervous glances at him.
He knew he was being careless but he couldn’t bring himself to care. Sakazuki needed to find Ume. Anger and worry swirled around in his gut and he felt like his skin was too tight. He hated that she left, it made him absolutely furious but that was being blanketed by the overwhelming concern he felt. He didn’t know where she was or what could possibly be happening to her.
He was worried.
Ume was curled in on herself when she felt something familiar. It slithered along her fraying thoughts and made her shoulders untense. Exhaling slowly she lifted her head a little and immediately she tensed up again. Sakazuki was kneeling above her. Even with him leaning down he towered over her. His expression unreadable but nothing was hidden. The mix of displeasure, worry, and joy coated her mind like a balm.
For a moment they just stared at each other. Then a dam broke inside of Ume.
She felt her lower lip tremble and tears pricked at the edges of her eyes. In a moment of pure impulsiveness she threw herself at him. Her arms wrapped around his waist and she buried face into his stomach. His surprise was sharp and it stung but she didn’t care. He was familiar and grounding and she just wanted to go home.
Sakazuki blinked owlishly down at Ume. She was trembling as she tried desperately to get closer to him. He didn’t know how he would find her but cowering in an alley had not crossed his mind. Any anger he had vanished as he bundled her into his arms.
“Take me home.” her words were muffled against his uniform as her hands clutched at the fabric. He nodded even though she wasn’t looking. Adjusting her as he stood he held her close as he walked down the street. He couldn’t ignore the warm spread of happiness that bloomed in his chest. She wanted to go home.
And he was going to take her home.
