suddenly overcome with love for my players. its a constant emotion but im feeling it so big right now. 

theyre just so invested in the world! and their characters! and theyre so kind!?! truly i think dnd brings out the best in people.

i gave them some kenku that are having trouble integrating with a community because of the language barrier and now my players are out of game diving into esl education to make a communication book to help them get basic ideas across.

it is an ongoing joke that they adopt every npc i give them and its not much of a joke bc no lie i think there are just as many npcs who travel with the party as there are actual pcs. actually i just counted there are exactly as many party npcs as there are pcs. three of those npcs are kind of just one npc who at one point shared a consciousness but are now separate(-ish) beings and one of those npcs is just a small horde of dust bunnies that occasionally either makes or cleans up messes so you could argue the numbers dont actually line up but it is still an absurd number of npcs to have adopted. i have to plan reasons npcs cant or dont want to go on adventures as one of the first character points i make otherwise their party would be triple its size. i am constantly forgetting how many npcs they have with them at all times but they Dont forget and make points to include them in conversations and decision making.

i just think dnd brings out the best in people!!!

also i lowkey hate making maps but maps are important for understanding the world so iv been doing research and shit and trying to get better at it but! my players literally help with that? not just in making it fun and rewarding but like literally help with the task of it? 

as in we just came from a city that one of my players spent a few years at so he drew a map of the city and wrote me out a Huge world building document about the city and its culture and like, climate and neighborhoods and what was important to his character while living there and everything! and another player gave me a six page document that included maps about the territory their character grew up in like, almost at the very beginning of our campaign! i havn’t even had a chance to use any of that information yet because they come from a very far away place! they dont care they Had Fun making me this big old document! and now we’re visiting a player’s childhood home and They’ve offered to make the map for the area! that would be three whole maps all player made!!! 

theyre just so invested and make things so easy on me!!! it is so easy to dm a group that is constantly focused on Working With the world and moving their characters forward!

and its a super homebrewed campaign partially bc i honestly think thats not only more fun but how dnd is Meant to be played, with some creativity and making shit up on the spot, but also my players are so good!!! about shit being homebrew!!! when something comes up we dont know the rules for or which rules dont exist for we work together to decide what happens!!! if someone knows a rule i dont they let me know and i can ask them what they think happens given the rules that do apply and we make decisions together on how it works with a focus on what makes the most compelling story! 

its just so truly OUR game!!! my beloved comrades!!!

Also like, its been off and on and we’ve taken breaks but we’ve been playing since March 2019? and people have added and left and like i said we’ve had to take breaks but in the end this is not a campaign i can imagine not being in anymore. i cannot imagine this campaign ending just because, like, there’s just so many of them who are so invested!!! and Im so invested! to be honest this campaign is one of the most fun and rewarding things in my life and one of my favorite things about it is how confident i am that it is going to be a constant in my life for a long time. like im really able to just Revel in this campaign and sink hours of work into weird bullshit and plan out arcs and enemies and friends and plot hooks and aesthetic bullshit i dont expect our party to meet for Quite a while because i just! i have no fear that this is going to end!

One of my players got a symbol from our campaign tattooed onto their flesh body? art that i made for dungeons and dragons? it will be on their human body for the rest of their life? and another got a tattoo that (partially) represents what this campaign means to them? another has told me they would love to get a campaign related tattoo with me someday? there is a tattoo in game that binds (most of) the pcs to each other and there has been talk about us getting that tattoo together?

i cannot think about this for too long or i go insane. i made some shapes on canva and spent the whole time wishing i had ms paint because ms paint is my level of art and these are designs that are being added to bodies because we have collectively installed so much emotion and meaning into them. 

i am losin gmy mind.

and like, iv already sunk lowkey a kind of unreasonable amount of time (esp for someone who just went back to school and has homework!) into making my kenku soundboard and mixtape but its been such a passion project already and the whole time iv been working on it iv had Zero fear of the reception because i Know and Trust that my players will think my first attempt at using garageband is sick as hell even if its kind of not because they are just crazy supportive and love our world like i cant even really call it my world its truly Our world and! we all love and contribute to it!!!???!!!

at the end of every session we do a rose/bud/thorn (thing we liked/thing we’re looking forward to/thing that could be improved or issue wed like to bring up) to check in with how the session went!!! we discuss things we didnt like and how wed change them!!! 

they challenge me Constantly not just in pushing my capabilities as a growing dm but they also speak up and challenge my decisions when they disagree! 

i jsut cannot get over how truly we are Working Together in all aspects to make this campaign what it is. 

i have a tendency to move dnd at a crawling pace where every hour of every day is meticulously role played. and they told me they didnt like that and now we work together to make things move faster! and it doesnt always work and we still dont move that fast but weve brainstormed several options and tried a few new things to make it easier for me to go faster!

and also also also theres like, Multiple players who really hate using technology and sometimes esp video chatting. and most sessions currently people’s thorns have been tech issues/being on video. but wer still all (mostly) show up every session! we still submit to the mortifying ordeal of being seen/heard on discord!

some of my players have an accented character voice and i love them So So So Much for this and it makes me feel confident and comfortable enough to try my best at (when i remember to) doing character voices for npcs but we are not critical role and we are certainly not voice actors so none of our voices are very good or consistent! and my players with accents get self conscious about this pretty often but like!!! they are TRYING!!! they are GIVING IT THEIR ALL!!!

what more could anyone possibly ask of them?

multiple players have come to me concerned and looking for advice/help because they dont think theyre very good at role play/staying in character. we’ve got people who so dedicated theyre stepping Way outside their comfort zone and then turning around and apologizing for how far a walk it was??? they are giving it Their All and their biggest concern is how to give MORE?

i had a moment last session where i realized that our current arc is literally exactly the kind of arc i Dreamed of dming when i was first starting out. like, not to toot my own horn but its legitimately open world and they have a mystery that they need to get to know a small community and find out what everyone knows and put all the pieces together to figure out what happened. i used to scroll through dm forums Endlessly looking for Any advice on how to plan a good mystery and i didnt think id ever be at the point where i could actually pull a mystery Or an open world arc off. but like, here i am. its going pretty great so far.

also this current arc is one of the First i ever thought up for this campaign. obviously it’s changed and evolved a lot since original concept but like. just a Bit emotional over, ya know. finally getting here and having it be even better than i imagined. how far we’ve all come, in and out of game. the fact that my players had so much fun talking to my prize npc kenku whom i have been developing for literal years now and adore beyond reason that they are learning about esl studies to help them integrate into the coven they are trying to join.

The Elder Scrolls - a disclaimer and rant

I am going to make some posts about The Elder Scrolls, and in particular, its background, setting, and characters. That means that a disclaimer is probably necessary.

Here’s the tl;dr version: yes, I know about the lore. Please trust me when I say that I was really super into it about a decade and a half ago, and I’ve kept an eye on it since. I have read the Michael Kirkbride forum posts. I have read C0DA, The Seven Fights of the Aldudagga, Sermon Zero, the Loveletter from the Fifth Era, and so on. I know the forum roleplays like The Trial of Vivec. I know that Ayrenn is really a time-travelling mining robot from outer space. I think all the stuff I just referenced varies widely in quality, opinions quite reasonably differ on it, and it’s frequently at odds with what’s actually depicted in the games, but at any rate, I promise that I know it.

So when I go on and talk about Psijics – I know, all right? I know. I am choosing to engage with the setting on a level that focuses more on characters, human stories, and, well, the narratives of the games. The TES apocrypha is interesting, but of limited relevance to the things I’m interested in. There are many valid ways to enjoy TES. Okay?

Now, the longer part:

If you haven’t played TES, and… actually, scratch that, for like 90% of people who’ve played TES, none of the above needed to be said. The thing is, when you play a TES game, it is a fairly straightforward elves-and-wizards-and-dragons fantasy setting in the D&D mould. Indeed, the earliest versions of it, back in the 90s, were based on a D&D campaign. So there’s relatively little surprising about it, and “it’s like D&D” will carry you most of the way towards understanding it.

However, TES games are also renowned for containing lots of in-game books you can read, which are often some of the most striking and evocative parts of the games. These are supplemented by a large library of apocrypha: often unofficial material, posted by developers (and ex-developers) on the internet. The most infamous of these writers is Michael Kirkbride, who has some… very unusual tastes and interests, but there are a range of other names as well. In any case, the result is that TES has an ‘expanded universe’ composed of these non-canonical writings. Often canonical texts in-game hint at some of this vast, unofficial hinterland, and sometimes ideas invented in the apocrypha sneak back into the games themselves.

Further, the apocrypha often hints at what seems to be a very different setting to the one directly experienced in the games: one that’s less about warriors and wizards and adventure and more one about divine magic, transcendence, myth, and meaning. The descriptions often seem to be somewhat at odds. This can best be demonstrated with some examples.

For instance, here is Michael Kirkbride’s description of a High Elf warship, written before any game had depicted the High Elf homeland:

Made of crystal and solidified sunlight, with wings though they do not fly, and prows that elongate into swirling Sun-Birds, and gem-encrusted mini-trebuchets fit for sailing which fire pure aetheric fire, and banners, banners, banners, listing their ancestors all the way back to the Dawn.

This is Old Mary at Water.

 You will immediately notice two things. The first is that this sounds really cool. Some of it you need some context to parse (the old elven homeland is called ‘Aldmeris’, hence ‘Old Mary’ as a mocking nickname given by its foes; the High Elves believe that they are literally, genealogically descended from the spirits that created the world at the Dawn), but even so, man, that warship sounds awesome. This Kirkbride guy can write. The second thing, though, is that it is extremely unclear what any of this even means. Given that descriptions… what does this ship look like? Try to picture it! What the heck does ‘crystal and solidified sunlight’ look like? How exactly does a trebuchet throw fire? What?

You might then go on to play a video game where the High Elves are taking part in a war to conquer the continent. If you’re like me, you’re probably keen to see one of these fabled warships. But then it turns out that in-game, High Elf ships look… like this. Or like this.

(Indeed, the High Elves are often a good example of this. An earlier written text, in a pamphlet enclosed with the video game Redguard, described the elven capital of Alinor as “made from glass or insect wings” or “a hypnotic swirl of ramparts and impossibly high towers, designed to catch the light of the sun and break it into its component colours”. Needless to say, should you visit it in a game, it does not look like that.)

After a while, you start to notice that there is very little connection between the world implied by the apocrypha and the world experienced in the games. Kirkbride says that the “closest mythical model” for the ancient knight Pelinal “would be Gilgamesh, with a dash of T-800 thrown in, and a full-serving of brain-fracture slaughterhouse antinomial Kill(3) functions stuck in his hand or head”, and says “Pelinal was and is an insane collective swarmfoam war-fractal from the future”. Indeed in Kirkbride’s descriptions Pelinal seems to have been an ultraviolent schizophrenic who led a wild, genocidal band of anti-elven warriors, was very definitely gay, and who had only a red, gaping hole where his heart ought to be (which in turn is a reference to the missing heart of the creator-trickster deity Lorkhan, whom Pelinal was in part a mortal incarnation of). You might find that really cool or you might find it banal, but there’s no denying that it’s extremely different to the Pelinal whose ghost you can meet in-game. The apocryphal Pelinal is a mad butcher whose closest mythic model, contra Kirkbride, actually seems to be Achilles; the game Pelinal is a straightforwardly sympathetic chivalric knight. This is complicated somewhat by the in-game books being written by Kirkbride and therefore being gonzo bananas insane, so the ‘canon’, such as it is, is unclear – but at any rate it is impossible to deny that there’s an incongruity.

I could go on with examples for a long time. I haven’t even mentioned the most famous – the 1st edition PGE description of Cyrodiil compared to what it actually looks like in Oblivion – or more recent ones, like the gulf between Alduin the mythic dragon who will consume the world and indeed time itself in its terrible jaws and the frankly quite underwhelming beastie you fight in Skyrim. The point I’m making is that there are effectively two TES settings: one relatively down-to-earth, immersive, and depicted in great detail in the video games, and one that’s this absurd mash-up of magic and science fiction and whatever psychedelics Michael Kirkbride has been taking this week.

I write this long disclaimer because it has been my experience discussing TES in the past that people who are mostly interested in the former – in the relatively grounded setting experience in the games – sometimes run into an elitist attitude from people who are interested in the latter. Sometimes fans of the apocrypha can come on much too strong, or gatekeep the idea of being a fan of ‘TES lore’. Any sentence that starts with “actually, in the lore…” is practically guaranteed to go on to be awful.

My point is not that the apocryphal TES is bad. As I hinted above, in my opinion its quality varies extremely widely: there are things that Kirkbride has written that I think are pretty cool (I unironically love the Aldudagga) and there are things he’s written that I think are indulgent tripe (C0DA stands out). Ultimately it’s all about what you enjoy, and I would never try to tell anyone that they shouldn’t have fun reading or speculating about or debating the zaniness of some of these texts. Indeed, as far as online fandoms and video game fan fiction goes, TES probably has the most fruitful ‘expanded universe’ that I’ve ever seen, and I think that’s wonderful. Kirkbride himself has said that “it’s really all interactive fiction, and that should mean something to everyone” and “TES should be Open Source”, which is a position I wholeheartedly endorse – and does a lot to take the edges off some of the worse things he’s said.

Rather, my point is that everyone should enjoy what they feel most interested in, or most able to enjoy. Further, I argue that there is absolutely nothing wrong – and for that matter absolutely nothing less intelligent or less intellectual – about a person preferring to engage with the version of TES most clearly depicted in the video games. Part of this might be defensiveness on my part, because in my opinion what TES has always done best is a nuanced depiction of cultural conflict: this is particularly the case in Morrowind and Skyrim, and ESO’s better expansions tend to deal in this area as well. As such I take relatively little interest in the metaphysical content of much of the apocrypha. For me, Shor, say, is most interesting as the protagonist of several conflicting cultural narratives, rather than as a metaphysical essence.

I would also argue that the most recent game content has taken a good approach by going out of its way to legitimise a range of possible approaches to the setting. The latest chapter of ESO, Greymoor, includes a system where the player can dig up ancient artifacts, and a number of NPC scholars will comment on them for you. This allows the game to indicate in-character scholarly disagreement over issues fans have previously debated. One item shows disagreement over whether the mythical character Morihaus was literally a bull, or a minotaur, or whether he was a human allegorically referred to as a bull. Another one points to disagreement over the possibility of magical spaceships: apocryphal materials have referred to ‘Sunbirds of Alinor’, ‘Reman Mananauts’, etc., as sorts of magical astronauts, but that seems so ridiculous given what we’ve seen in the games as to be easily discounted. I like items like this in-game because they seem to say to players, “It’s okay to disagree over questions like this – no one is doing TES wrong.”

That said, I am reasonably positive that I’m in the minority here, because I am in the camp that usually says that legends exaggerate, and so Morihaus probably wasn’t a bull and magical spaceships don’t exist. This is not a popular position. My reason, of course, is that I think tales are more likely to grow in the telling rather than shrink, and I have a dozen of what I think are hard-to-deny examples of this happening in TES (e.g. heroic narratives of the War of Betony are very different to the grubby reality you uncover in Daggerfall, or Tiber Septim is almost certainly from Alcaire rather than Atmora). However, this means that I openly take an opposite methodology to Michael Kirkbride. Kirkbride was once asked by a forum poster whether some in-game writings are exaggerated. His reply was: “I prefer, "It is very possible, as is the case throughout this magical world, that some of the exaggerated claims made about some subjects pale in comparison to the Monkey Truth. ZOMGWTFGIANTFEATHEREDFLUTYRANTS."”

Needless to say, I find this implausible, and it means that, for example, I interpret the Remanada as an obvious piece of propaganda, inventing a story about Alessia’s ghost in order to retroactively explain why Reman, probably born the son of a hill chieftain with zero connection to the previous dynasty, really has imperial blood. This is a very different but in my opinion more historically plausible take than Kirkbride’s, who has a naked thirteen year old Reman standing atop his harem and slaughtering recalcitrant followers.

I’m not saying that my approach is objectively correct. It’s all fiction – and as Kirkbride said, TES is open source. The only thing that matters is what you the reader, player, or interpreter find the most interesting. For me, that means generally favouring what is seen in the games over the developer apocrypha, which I can take or leave.

•    born in harajuku, tokyo to a cardiothoracic surgeon of a father and a politician of a mother, jade grew up traveling the world and becoming flighty af, never thinking she was going to make long - term friends and kinda being okay with that. 

•    her family has never stayed in one place for very long, though her aging parents eventually settled into a permanent residence in the us around the time she turned sixteen, not soon enough for jade to break the habit of wandering, but thankfully quick enough for her to meet the bratz girls who were just as adventurous and fun - loving as she. she's spent much of her teen life jumping from place to place wherever her interests are that moment, collecting people along the way, but to find friends was the only thing she was missing. jade has a brilliant mind, but she lacks patience and follow through. she needs guidance or she'll jump from idea to idea, job to job, whim to whim.

•    ngl, jade pretty much hated her home life. her parents were an overbearing presence in her life, her mother wanting jade to be a proper lady who also went into a profession like theirs (entirely serious and stifling when it came to creativity, doctor, politician, lawyer etc.) while jade herself wanted to check out the latest trends and go to the mall w her friends – so she turned all of her focus and energy into getting good grades in everything she wanted to do in the hopes that she could be the most successful fashion designer, then leaving town forever. 

•    like she spent 7 yrs in high school graduating w honours but she barely knew what was happening in 9/10 of her classes and sometimes she just slept through classes and then wing her exams which she miraculously did well at. it was just not a good idea to send jade to a public school at 11 after being in boarding school for the rest of her life and then never really enforce any rules :~\ she has trouble with that kind of thing.. as in making logical choices instead of saying "YEAH lets go watch american psycho and smoke weed!" skipping chemistry to do just that 

•    she loves fun and values doing what makes her happy over most things. it's hard to pin her down and she spends most of her life chasing after ideas that don't really follow any sort of conscious order, bc she’s really got that ‘i’ve got dreams and i’m gonna do everything in my power to achieve them’ personality. 

•    according to bratz canon she’s worked as literally everything ? she’s one of those insufferable people who r just. good everything ig and that’s just how it is on this bitch of an earth. jade’s been a photographer, a song - writer and bass player in a rock band (shout out to bratz rock angelz the best movie w the best soundtrack ever), a student studying fashion design, a fashion columnist, a quickly fired nanny, and many other things in between. 

•    so when she appears in toonsville she’s kind of out of it that she’s not doing something w her skills and sets up her own business which she loves ? being her own boss suits her fine (for now) because she’s got a Real Job and she's actually trying rly hard so she can fulfill her dreams !! like suck it mom nd dad haha !!!

•    jade has a lot of weird feelings TM about her body and her looks and struggles a lot with her self confidence :~( she had a shit time at school with boys saying she was too thin and she compensated by acting like she didn't like anyone at all for a while and now she thinks she isn't good enough for anyone when rly she is a cinnamon bun too good for this world too pure 

•    best friend ever she is so good at being a friend if u text her at 3am to go out or cry on her shoulder shes ready to go at 3:15 even if she was sleeping w lots of snacks and treats and love!!! she is sooo extroverted around those she’s comfortable w, she gains so much energy from being around people and she loves being nice and being around ppl she likes 

•    she becomes the mom of groups pretty easily (hence why she’s the leader of the bratz) bc she bottles up most of her own problems to help ppl with theirs!! which is toxic yea but she puts people first always so !! plz help her poor repressed soul!! rip kool kat.. 

•    still super into the stuff of her time so like.. she loves the x files and bad reality tv shows (i want to be a hilton) and reads gossip magazines on the reg because she enjoys that stuff! also very into girl groups.. ginger spice / posh spice is an eternal mood.

ex’s , fwb’s , possible love interests .  jade is fairly fluid romantically and is the type of person who hates labels but also just wants to be cherished and called cute pet names lowkey. she loves a lot and gives a lot to her relationships, but typically doesn't want to commit to anything important. she’s gone from one disastrous relationship to another, ending up with a boyfriend who constantly ridiculed her image that was essentially the catalyst for her cutting off romantic ties, quite a recent wound before she found herself on the island actually. worst thing is tht she’s convinced herself that she’s been the problem in these relationships –  that she turns good people bad or that she is too much for people to deal with, she’s not sure what the issue is and she doesn’t really want to know. so…. fuck everything amirite ? anyway, she’s a strong independent woman who don’t need no (wo)man.

2. Does your MC/Jacob’s family have any relation to canon characters/families? Are these relations impactful to MC and their story?

Hmm… Does Adelyn-Keira Black and Jacob-Taylor Black have any connections to any canon characters and families…. =p

Nope, happy coincidence.

(This got a little long, sorry!) 

TL;DR: House of Black via scandal with Orion - leads to more rumours about Jacob and Keira; ignored by other members of the family who grow increasingly frustrated with talk of this; but helps Keira feel connected to a family again, feel like she’s not alone, and helps her gain confidence (maybe too much? =p) and becomes motivated to change the negative, blood purity elitist perception of the House of Black name as well as the blood prejudices in the wizarding world as best as she can; connection to the Marauders - IT’S HER MAP AND SHE WANTS IT BACK!

Yes, they are part of the infamous Most Ancient and Noble House of Black. As I’ve mentioned before, my OC was originally Sirius’ daughter but since that clearly wouldn’t work in this timeline, especially with an older brother Jacob, I had to adapt (and I like to think I’m quite adaptable) and make her and Jacob half-siblings to Sirius and Regulus. (I know there’s evidence and theories about MC and Jacob being related to Queenie and Jacob Kowalski but I’m a Black, sorry =p)

So yes, these relations are impactful to MC and their story. One, you can imagine Keira’s surprise when she finds out her and Tonks are related! Of course I believe that only strengthens their bond and relationship. 

When Keira first arrives in the UK she doesn’t know much about the House of Black besides a little bit about those who resided in 12 Grimmauld Place. She wasn’t even going to use their last name and use her mother’s last name but Jacob had already caused quite the commotion when he went to Hogwarts and being done being this shameful family secret (mainly for his mom), took the Black family last name and proved he and his sister were House of Black directly by blood (I’ve done some interesting research on blood magic for paternity tests) so the secret was already out, but she was always interested in learning more about them especially after her mom died since they were not kind of the only family she had. Of course, but the time she goes to Hogwarts Orion and Regulus are dead and Sirius is in Azkaban. The rest of the House of Black, despite the proof of these two being blood related to them, go on ignoring them and pretending they don’t exist for as long as possible.

Maybe it was just her extreme curiosity or strong desire to feel connected to family again to not feel so alone, but when Walburga passes and 12 Grimmauld Place is just left abandoned (except for Kreacher) Keira gives a very passionate speech on why they should move in there. And there she’s finally allowed to learn more about that side of the family. 

And then comes a whole new wave of motivation to change the perception of The House of Black and their judgmental blood purity elitism by first making 12 Grimmauld Place a usual hangout for her friends and anyone who needs a safe place to stay (which then leads to Barnaby moving in =)  ) no matter what their blood status is (Walburga’s portrait CAN NOT). 

Despite moving into 12 Grimmauld Place and Jacob causing a stir in the wizarding world when he went to Hogwarts about being a Black, fortunately his Vault adventures outshined that so Keira was able to use her mom’s last name at first but the more she learned about the family the more she wanted to embrace it, but didn’t want to be perceived as a blood purist - finding out her and Tonks are related was really what convinced her to do it because if Tonks and her mom are part of this family then clearly they’re not all like Bellatrix (who is still a badass and Keira respects!). 

So then she fully embraces it, wears a vintage cameo necklace with the House of Black crest on it, goes by their last name, may even change her style a bit, and honestly it helps her gain a lot more confidence. Part of it is definitely the power and influence behind the name with its history and being well-known in the wizarding world, but also because she felt connected to family again and like she wasn’t all alone and lost. Of course that also means besides rumours and talk about her and her brother and the Vaults, there’s more going around about her and her brother being offspring via scandal of The House of Black. So… that’s great… Probably also greatly pisses of a lot of the other members because this is bring brought up again and Keira hasn’t disappeared like her brother so the stories of her and the Vaults (thanks Rita…) and being a Black is never ending so talk about the scandal is also never ending! (omg R is a member of the family trying to kill her because she’s ruining their reputation =p)

And if you thought Rita was annoying about the Vaults, imagine how annoying she is trying to get a story about the Vaults and the House of Black scandal. UGH....

Being a member of the House of Black helped her find family again and not feel so alone, motivate her to change the dark and negative perception that can go along with being a member of this family as well as do what she can to end this blood prejudice in the wizarding community, and gain confidence so much so that she will march right into the Lestrange mansion and greet Bellatrix as “Bella” and claim to be her favourite =p Because although there are some dark wizards and witches in the family, you can’t deny that they are badasses. With great hair. And Keira wants to be a badass with great hair also =p

This also gives her a connection to the Marauders (who we all love right? At least their map, right?!) particularly Remus Lupin (yes and Sirius but we’re talking about Remus right now) who has to be the one to take care of her because she literally has no one else in Europe to take care of this little 11 year old. (They have a very close relationship that I have written some stuff on and one day I’ll post =p) Also this means the Marauders Map is super meaningful to her (once she makes the connection because Remus has mentioned they called themselves the Marauders when she demands stories from him about him and Sirius and their friends and then she’s told to find the Marauders map and she’s like ‘where have I heard that before…’ It clicks eventually =p) And yes she’s going to throw a HUGE fit when Rakepick takes it because that’s one of few things she has to directly connect her to Sirius. Also isn’t it sort of her map now since she’s related to Padfoot? IT’S HER MAP DAMNIT!

5. What career does/did Jacob want to pursue? Did it change after he was freed from the Vault?

He’s a Keeper ;D

He wanted to play Quidditch professionally, was on track to do so, and even after all the drama with the Vaults would do anything to be able to play professionally. Nothing can squander that passion of his.

19. How do MC’s parents react to Jacob’s return?

Lots of crying, lots of tight hugs, a couple smacks upside the head - what the hell, don’t you ever do that again! They were worried sick and so glad he’s back and okay but also lots of scolding - seriously, what the hell?! Put us and your sister through hell! What were you thinking?! Here, we made your favourite for dinner but you are grounded and never leaving your room for the next twenty years! 

(They are unofficially the adopted parents of Keira and Jacob, close friends of their mom who took them in after she passed, so there was a lot of guilt also over letting their friend down by losing her son, so a lot of relief when he’s back. But they really are like actual parents to them so it was like coming home to mom and dad who were worried sick, happy he’s back, but don’t pull shit like that again! No wonder they got stricter with Keira, couldn’t lose both their friend’s children!)

23. Is MC friends with Billingsley, or is he just as much as legend to MC as they are to the player?

I have a headcanon that Billingsley is an unofficial member of the Cursed Vaults Gang (Crew, Squad, whatever =p) and they will place bets on what Billingsley will do next as well as dare him to do ridiculous things. He’s definitely a legend, but a legend they call their friend.

27. Does MC/Jacob have any interest in learning any non-human languages?

Keira loves learning languages, wishes she could speak every language in the world, seriously! So if there’s a chance to learn a new language, human or non-human, she’s going to take it. And while Jacob isn’t as keen as her, he does love creatures and learning non-human languages would be cool so he may be interested in learning one - he could also use that to chirp other players and confuse them because they won’t know what he’s saying and what he just called them =p So it’s also a Quidditch tactic! And he’s competitive so if he could learn a language his sister didn’t know or knew more of than her he would be very smug about it.

I am still all GOSH THIS EPISODE. And still all super OMG SEE? I KNEW IT. I said Virgil was a giant, lovable, cute, dork. So adorkable, my gosh. (I also have never really gone into detail, but I kinda headcanoned Virgil could get shy and stuff around like girls he likes and such. I never spoke much of it since I didn’t really have much in the way of evidence WHY I thought he might act that way... WELL. THANK YOU, EPISODE. I feel like this really could be a thing now. XDDD)

Boy, his brothers must not have paid any attention ever to his bookshelves if he has books and even an action figure of Kip. XDa

So, of course, I’m wondering when/how Virgil found out about Kip. Did Kip know Jeff? Seemed like it, given him noting Virgil looked like their Dad (Which I’m like OMG YES, to. People say Scott looks like Jeff, but my gosh, look at Virgil and Jeff in TOS. There is even more resemblance there, eyebrows, set of the eyes, nose, cheeks (chin and dimples are then more what Scott got.) Gosh, I can’t wait to see what TAG! Jeff will look like.) in a way that seemed more than just knowing a little about Jeff to feel Virgil was ‘a chip off the old block.’ (Man, this ep was so chock full of oldish and very American sayings. XD)

Did Jeff introduce Virgil to the guy’s existence? =Oa

BUT yeah, as I tried to type, but mangled... It’s exciting and interesting that it seems like Virgil had influence on him doing what he does well beyond simply his father. Obviously Kip was a huge one! And someone who does more what Virgil does than what, from what we can tell, Jeff probably did. Jeff’s about technology and space, but Virgil is definitely more mechanical, engineering and stuff like fires and explosives etc. *chinhands*

Man, it could potentially even fit together nicely... If it was even older teen Virgil who found out about him... if he still went to college in Denver... I mean, Colorado is still VERY the westerny. (I lived an hour south of Denver for 7 years. XD So, yeah. XD) LMao Maybe that’s where he got the action figure. XDa Man, I wonder where Kip was meant to be from... it was definitely a southern accent---don’t think quite Texas... at least, not some parts of it. (...Oh, his actor was a UK one. GOSH. Poor Virg. YOU KNOW, this might be the first time a note about Virgil that was in the annual might’ve actually sorta been a thing. =Oa It said sometimes he forgot his own strength... We’ve really never seen it used in any way, making it seem like a bit of out-of-date marketing. (Especially since being an artist and piano player, Virg is pretty good at being gentle. ^.^) But a distracted Virgil can seemingly cause some problems lolol

Gosh, I laugh at Gordon’s line still all ‘I’m not messing with them, they’re messing with me!’ lolol

And Virgil finally pulls himself together. \o/

I just really like how Kip’s leaning on TB2′s dash there to look out the windshield.

I’m on the fence about who it is, except no, I REALLY don’t think it’s Kyrano. It’s all in the accents... Kayo and the Hood are decidedly from the UK so I rather doubt Kyrano would have a decidedly American one. lol That just would seem... odd. Part of me is wondering if it’s Jeff, but obviously it’s a bit... not rich enough to seem quite like Jeff, although it is pretty heavily radio distorted, but still. Erf. It also might be a bit TOO accented compared to the boys... ANYHOO, I guess we’ll see, anyways.

Who’s your 1 favorite in each and every team? and what’s Your MOST Favorite team?

Oh gosh. This is a hard one to answer for me because…. they’re all my children. Oof.

Okay, I’m gonna try, though! Here we go~ buckleup buckaroos cause this will be long! (tl;dr at the bottom)

I guess I’ll just… start with the easier question- favorite team. Karasuno - they’re the main team, yes, but they’re also the most developed characters. I LOVE Nekoma and Datekou and Seijoh and Fukurodani… but I’m a trashhumanbeing for character development and Karasuno just has the most of that.

Now Favorites on each team? That’s gonna put me through an emotional ringer - bleh! ⊙︿⊙

 First up, Karasuno.

That’s so hard. I love them all - even the second years who don’t have a bunch of page/screen time. Each of them have their own reason for my love.

Tsukki is definitely high on the list because of his character arc from the week long training camp to the match between Shiritorizawa. Cause in the beginning we all KNEW he was there on the team for a reason even though he seemed to not like the game?? And we found out that he just didn’t want to get hurt. He saw his brother LIE to him and break down when he was exposed (rather shamefully, i suppose) to have been lying. 

And you could see in their faces how much it hurt them both. Tsukki ADORED his brother… he looked up to him. Joined volleyball because of that… and then it was… sort of ripped from him.

BUT THEN HE MET HIS OWL DAD AND CAT DAD. And he learned to love the game again at the Inter-High Finals. Now he’s a very passionate and dedicated player (even if he doesn’t express it outwardly like the others) you can see it in the way he plays.

ON THE OTHER HAND. There’s all the others. BUT…. the only other person that comes close to Tsukki in my favorites list is Hinata.

I mean he’s the main character for a reason. He’s a passionate, talented, growing individual and he’s already had so much development. He’s more mature than he was in chapter one. He’s stronger, mentally. He’s developing crazy amazing skills. It took, like, six chapters for him to practice basic, head on, receiving with Suga and Kags for their 3x3 match. Then… for the five day training camp at Shiratorizawa he learned new skills with receiving, and he began practicing his Jump Serves (I think? I s2g i saw a panel somewhere but I can’t find it. I will someday) and he began THINKING CRITICALLY about the game. He even said himself, “I don’t usually pay attention to the court, just watch the ball.”

And now in NATIONALS he’s getting badass receives, he’s watching national level players and learning from them, and changing chapter to chapter.

BOTH of them are first years. Can… can y’all imagine… what they’re going to be like in their third years. CAN YOu GUyS SeE ThEM bEiNG SENpAIS??!!? ! UPPERCLASSMEN?!!!?! AH I”M HERE FOR THAT I CANT WAIT FoR THAT PLEASE GIVE US ThAT FURUdATE PLeASE!

So. All in all. It’s a hardcore toss-up between Hinata and Tsukki.

pffffff….. uhm…. but. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. By one iota … it would be Hinata. BUt Tsukki is lurking behind him being salty about it. ¬‿¬

Nekoma:

Kuroo. Hands down. Kuroo. He’s a GReAT captain. He’s a great friend. He supports Kenma (even when Kenma doesn’t seem to want support - when he just wants to be left alone to play games) and he made great friends with Yaku, even through their friendly feuding. He’s SMART and he’s TALENTED and he’s ….catty (as in witty). But, from when he came out and said sorry to Karasuno, he seems to be very quick to own up to his mistakes. I mean that wasn’t REALLY a mistake… but you could tell he felt bad. He just seems like he’s a super honest person who will always help his friends be better people. (cause that’s all he was trying to do with Tsukki he just didn’t understand then how much Tsukki resented Hinata).

Also his awful laugh adds a year onto my life every time I hear it.

Seijoh:

This one is a little harder because, while I have a deep respect for the team, I don’t really…. love them. They’re great - they’re strong - they’re funny and interesting. But I just have stronger feelings for the others.

But probably my favorite character is Iwaizumi. He’s a supportive best friend. He’s handsome. He’s strong. He’s a steady presence for the team and he’s also been shown to be good at controlling Mad Dog - chan. I thought it was hilarious the way he asserted his authority as a third year, not by yelling, or threatening, but just be being himself and being a general badass.

He is SO SUPPORTIVE of Oikawa (who is adorbs too) even when Oikawa has his moments of weakness. He tries to get him to take care of himself (i.e. “Don’t stay up late we have games tomorrow! Get good sleep!” ) and the arc where he kept trying to convince a frustrated Oikawa that he IS good at what he does and even went so far as to head butt him. I tackled my best friend to the floor when they wouldn’t listen to me for similar reasons hahaha. So I feel for him - and he just seems to be the best friend anyone could ask for.

Date Tech:

This one is hard because, while we do have lots of information about the characters, we still haven’t learned too much about them. Compared to some of the other teams, I mean.

It’s actually a toss up between Futakuchi and Koganegawa. They’re both pretty interesting people. Futakuchi I hope we hear more about as Karasuno has more matches against them, practice games too. He seems like he’s trying to grow into his role as captain even though he still has his immature goofy moments. But you can be a great captain and still be goofy (hint-Oikawa-hinthint). So I hope we see some good development with him.

Koganegawa, on the other hand, is a FIRST YEAR and he’s an absolute goofball. He’s a little seal in my head after they did their penalty for losing that practice match set against Karasuno.

He’s friendly and talented and he seems like he would be a great friend to have.

I don’t really have a favorite between them cause I don’t…. KNOW them enough. they’re both cute though.

Fukurodani:

BOKUTo. BOKUTO BOKUTO BOKUTO. All the way. Except for the …. twenty percent of my love that is dedicated to Akaashi. But Bokuto is my favorite owl son sweet precious baby who needs to be protected when he’s in his emo mode and set free to roam the volleyball fields of fun when he’s happy.

I’ve written several long posts about Bokuto… but mostly I think he’s just a hard working, honest, open, amazing individual and i want to give him the world. And I’m going to cry next year when we see the team and Bokuto isn’t with Akaashi …. or he’s in the STANDS and not playing and commenting on his team and just. Ugh. My darling owl.

Shiratorizawa:

Tendou. He’s my favorite - mostly because he’s had a rough time as a kid with other kids bullying him and he overcame that and he’s still such a happy, motivated, wonderful individual. He made friends with Ushijima (and calls him by his first name so casually? like how cute is that) and he is able to just talk to him even though so many people think Ushijima is hard to talk to. Tendou talks to him and doesn’t stop and i love that.

Other than Inarizaki that’s really it I guess. I don’t have strong enough feelings about any of the other teams to pick a favorite for any of them. The Miya Twins are a wild ride so far, though. I wonder if we’ll see more of them later? If someone can convince me otherwise about any of the teams please talk to me! I love character analysis and hearing people gush over their favorites.

Anyway - TL;DR - Karasuno is my favorite team; Hinata is favorite on Karasuno; Kuroo; Iwaizumi; Bokuto; Futakuchi/Koganegawa; Tendou; all other teams we know I don’t really have strong feelings for. But if you want to convince me of anyone else please talk to me :D
