Definitely missed that poll too!

Yeah, I'm kind of really sad about it, because I'm the one that had asked for a version of the poll specifying if it was for the TV show or the videogame character, back in September.

Since then, I had periodically been checking on the @foundfamilyadoptionagency blog to see when submissions would reopen, so I could submit Radovid with a picture and description of the character, specifically from the TV show this time, and was planning to rally other fans (especially those that I know have a large number of Radovid/Radskier fans followers) of the character to reblog the poll so fans of the TV show and the character would hopefully see it.

I'm thinking of one person, in particular, that tends to make the notes on my own Radovid posts soar whenever she reblogs them.

But Destiny apparently had other plans, I completely missed it (therefore didn't vote, nor did I get the chance to increase its visibility among fans of the TV show and the TV show character) and, at some point, it would be ridiculous to just keep insisting for it to be reposted again and again, expecting a different result.

That being said, I was extremely surprised and very touched that they'd remembered it, though!

I was not expecting they'd be doing a second version without a reminder, or someone giving a proper submission, so a part of me went "OMFG! They're so sweet!", while at the same time face-palming that most fans I know seemed to have missed it.

I have a feeling that a lot of Radovid (show version) fans tend to check out the Radskier (Jaskier/Radovid ship) tag more often, too, since that allows us to avoid posts about the videogame character (and most Radovid posts are also connected to Jaskier and their relationship anyway).

Or they simply follow the few main blogs that keep creating and reblogging content about Radovid and Radskier directly to get their fix.

But yeah, given said main blogs did not appear to notice or repost the poll, I'm actually not at all surprised by the results.

Because "The Witcher" 's fandom is a bit of an eclectic mess of clashing ideologies, values, and extremes.

Including hardcore videogame fans that were expecting the TV show to religiously follow the narrative of the games, rather than create their own adaptation of the books.

So, while you will get people disliking Radovid for the usual (and perfectly valid, BTW) fandom reasons, such as:

They simply fail to emotionally connect or relate to him,

They feel like the show had been building a romance between Geralt and Jaskier for the first 2 seasons, only to instead pair him up with another newly introduced character in season 3.

You also have some videogame fans that are having a hard time treating these two characters as two completely different persons, and will even readily admit that they have an irrational dislike of Radovid based on his videogame counterpart.

Again, a fairly reasonable thing to happen that does affect the character's overall popularity, but usually those fans are pretty laid back about it and don't mind that people that only read the books and never played the games, or have only been watching the TV show, fell in love with the show's version of the character.

Videogame Radovid and TV show Radovid, are essentially two very different original characters that were created to serve very different purposes, that were vaguely inspired by a few lines from the books.

One is a villain people love to hate.

The other basically Netflix's version of a Disney Prince.

But then, you also have a very passionate and extremely vocal group of gamers (type "The Witcher" on YouTube, and get ready to enter incel territory!), that will be losing their shit over the fact that they made Radovid a super gentle and sensitive gay prince that admits to being scared, huddles and weeps in a corner when he finds out his guards have all been slaughtered, has a romance with Jaskier on the show, and is ready to leave his life at court behind to go chase after love; instead of the cruel, paranoid badass hypermasculine dictator king that was written for the 3rd videogame.

And then, there's also the argument that: "Jaskier is straight in the books and videogames! How dare they make Jaskier queer by having Radovid be written as Vizimir's adult younger brother instead of being his 12 y.o. son? They aged up a character just to make the show more woke and gay! It's so wrong! " we keep getting from queerphobic audiences.

Basically, TV show Radovid has been getting a large amount of hate from toxic subgroups of the gaming community ever since Jaskier was announced as being in a M/M relationship with him.

It's not even an issue they have with Radovid specifically, but the show in general.

There are entire YouTube channels devoted to hating on the show, it's creators, and everything they deem to be wrong with it, such as the way it focuses too much on Yennefer and Ciri when it's supposed to be called "The Witcher" (not "The Sorceress" or "The Child of Surprise"), having chosen to cast women with healthy and diverse body types (and ethnicities) to portray sorceresses that are described as the most beautiful women on the Continent in the books (when the videogames gave them more "conventionally attractive looking", and often white, in animated form), etc.

And that sort of general resentment towards the show for wishing to explore its own themes, being more inclusive, and taking their adaptation in a different direction than the games (and the books, at times, like most TV show and movie adaptations will do), means they'll take any opportunity they have to express their discontent.

I remember a poll, at some point where the "Radovid's character was screwed over on the Netflix show" option was winning, until the fan I'm talking about earlier reblogged it, and then the "He was treated just fine!" option won (I think the "he was screwed over" ended up with only 15% votes after it was reblogged by fans of the TV show).

So, you have gamers that hate everything about the show and the way it's different from the games... that are sharing the same space/tags as people that love the show, and either have no interest in the games, or are able to appreciate each as two very different takes on the same shared source material.

Of course they positively hate the way the TV show ignored the King Radovid from the 3rd game and created their own character. So they'll wish to "ditch" that version.

And, of course they hate videogame King Radovid, given he's meant to be hated on! He's an awful human being!

Radovid might stand a chance in a context where the fans of the TV show and of the new romance with Jaskier are given a chance to mobilize on their voting.

Otherwise, the fact that he got close to half the votes without help from any Radovid/Radskier centric blogs is actually... rather impressive!

He's actually more popular and beloved than I thought! 😆

So, don't worry too much about it. It's already extremely nice and considerate that you (the poll creator) were willing to give his TV show version a chance, so that it was clearer which one of the two characters we were voting on.

But yeah, "The Witcher" 's fandom itself is a very strange and sometimes scary place to navigate.

Who is eligible for this bracket?

Any character that is a sidekick, best friend, or even assistant to a ‘bigger’ or ‘more important’ character. These characters are often overshadowed by the other character, either in their media, or in their fandom. This ‘bigger’ character does not have to be the main character, nor do they have to be a hero or a good person in the story.

Here’s a tournament for characters whose secondary ability seems to be how quickly they adopt children. To qualify for this tournament, a character must have at least two kids who are not blood related. For the purposes of this poll, adoption does not have to be legal, it can be emotional, or even just a headcanon. We are all fans of found family here.

Glasses Swag Sequel Submissions

Hey gang, in celebration of me finally getting new glasses frames after spending seven years with the same ones, I have decided to return to an old tournament, one of my first….

The Glasses Swag Tournament is where you can submit all your favorite glasses-wearing characters!

Since this is a follow-up to a previous tournament, I won't be accepting characters who made it into the previous bracket. The document linked below is a list of the submissions I got. Any characters in the "Bracket" section will not be eligible to participate, but characters in the "Extra Submissions" section are (if you want some ideas). I'm not automatically accepting anyone so if you want them in, make a quick submission!

Now, rules for submissions:

The character has to have physical glasses so no contacts. If they switch between the two that’s fine.

The character should be wearing the glasses most of the time. I’m going for them being a key part of their design.

Has to be a fictional character, so no real people in this tournament. And no OCs, sorry.

One character per submission please

Please don’t spam one character multiple times through the form but you can submit multiple forms for different characters.

Submissions will close May 19, 2024 at 12:00 AM EST (midnight). I should be done with remaining school stuff by then so I have time to put together the bracket.

Redemption Event

We're finishing 2023 with the vast amount of characters who've been submitted to this blog adopted since it began 6 months ago in August. However, 126 characters were not adopted and in some case, people have been asking for them to get another chance. At the start of 2024, they will now get their second chance: every character who was ditched in 2023 will be polled again Now, I can't be sure that they'll get a third chance, since we already have such a large amount in only 6 months, so we could potentially have double that amount this time next year. So, if you want them in, be prepared to really fight for them With that in mind, from today until Friday 4th January you'll have a chance to submit better images, tags and/or propaganda using the form below to help boost their chances:

Welcome To The Fictional Orphan Smackdown!

You ever wanted to pit a bunch of people who've gone through terrible (or not terrible, depending on the circumstance) loss against each other to see who's the best? Well, now you can!

There is no proper basis for who the "best" orphan is in this specific poll. Is it based on who's written better? It is based on who you like more? It is based on who would win in a fight? That's up to you!

Before we get started, here are some basic rules on who is qualified as an orphan for this specific poll:

Both biological parents must be dead.

Surrogate/adoptive parents as well as parental figures may still be alive.

If adoptive parents are dead, that counts as an orphan.

If a character has unorthodox parentage (ex. made in a lab, created directly by a diety, ect) and the characters they consider parental figures are dead, that is an orphan.

If they have no confirmed parents, but are theorized to be an orphan, I would have to see the evidence for that theory and judge from there.

On some level, this character should probably be affected by being an orphan (not a requirement, but it will help your chances).

Of course, there will be edge cases and I'll try to judge everything case-by-case, so even if you don't think a character qualifies, submit them anyway! I can't garuntee they get in, but the worst thing I can do is not put them in the bracket :)

Tournament size will be determined by how many submissions I get.

Welcome to the Multiple Elements Character Tournament!!

This is a tournament for characters who can use 2 or more elements!

Rules:

Remember, this is a tournament about fictional characters so please! be nice! I don’t want any hate or bigotry (racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, stuff like that) here.

No real people! That includes streamers and MCYT! I’m fine with most things but will ban certain characters/media depending on how much unnecessary discourse they will create and how much we can separate the art from the artist. So HP won’t be allowed if you want a metric.

You can submit as many characters as you want, but please submit them one form at a time.

Do NOT submit the same character over and over again!

Make sure you spell the name of the character and piece of media they are from correctly please.

The character doesn’t necessarily have to use magic to get in. A character could use a flame and water sword and they would still be eligible for the tournament.

Characters who are more proficient in one element are allowed, but the character has to use other elements somewhat frequently. The other elements shouldn’t be an afterthought essentially.

I will allow media if they have their own unconventional “elements" in. Elements that weren't necessarily featured in the last tournament (Water, Earth, Fire, Air, Electricity, Ice, Vegetation, Metals, Light, and Darkness). What I mean is that, yes, the fighting type from pokemon and almighty skills from megami tensei are considered as elements in this tournament.

That being said, power systems like the hunter x hunter nen system won’t count. This is because Nen is more like using different techniques not actual elements. While the aura types for nen are more like categorizations for a character’s abilities. It’s kinda like the quirk categorization (emitter, mutant, and transformation) in my hero academia for a more simple comparison.

The Demon Slayer breathing styles are NOT allowed! They’re not actually summoning elements, it’s a visual metaphor.

When it comes to Pokémon, they are allowed, but under specific circumstances. Either: their ability changes their type (protean, multi type, etc), have a wide and diverse move pool regarding types, if a pokemon is a dual type, and/or if a pokemon has a gimmick that meets the prior criteria (think the rotom forms or the ogerpon masks). I’m not including Terastallization as an excuse for any Pokémon who don’t meet the prior criteria because it feels like such a cop out using a gimmick, that most likely won’t appear in later gens, to include certain Pokémon.

Trainers from Pokémon are allowed! As long as the pokemon they use are diverse in their typing and/or fit any other criteria listed above.

I might add more rules later on if necessary.

Also, if you want a list of "unconventional elements" that I'd most likely allow, please look at the "Elements and Their Associated Powers And Traits" tab on the "Elemental Powers" TV Tropes page.

I made totally different form for pokemon due to how many submissions I anticipate to get from that franchise. So submit characters from pokemon to that form please.

I’m gonna try to shoot for a 128 character tournament, but idk how many characters from the same franchise will be allowed in. Probably around 2-5 characters depending on what the submissions are like.

Going to shut the forms down on April 6th or at around 700 submissions. The last tournament was 1,530 total submissions and that was a lot, so I’m going to cut this one down a bit.

Welcome to the Mid-Episode Song Showdown!

Hello to everyone! I am the same person who runs @pruechaosbracket although I don't feel ready to do an intro-post yet.

This is the Mid-Episode Song Showdown! Because somehow they are some of the best songs ever, so of course I had to make a Tumblr Poll Contest (tm) about them!

Now then, The Rules!

Despite the name, songs from games also count.

Musicals on the other hand, do not count because they're all about the music.

The song has to have lyrics.

Intros, Outros, or any song that appears in every episode does not count.

Ending songs only count if they also appear before hand.

The song has to originate from its series.

Parody songs also count as long as they follow the previous rules.

You can submit as many songs as you want, just please don't spam the same song over and over again

Propaganda is encouraged, go crazy with it but don't harass others (also you can put it in though my asks/post submissions)

Teams will not be here this time around, so if two songs are tied they will be redone.

With that out of the way, I'm am going to leave the submissions up until February, I'll see you afterwards, and have fun!
