......so obviously I was scrolling through TikTok instead of reading and I got a shitton of Quebecois tiktoks (I blame my bestie who spammed me with french shit) but that means. Francophone Langa AU x TikTok AU time. But specifically, this one language test TikTok
Basically, it was a girl asking her English speaking husband questions in french and when he didn't answer or answered wrong, she was spray him with water from a spray bottle (the questions were things like "what's your name" and "what color are our sheets" things like that and they were laughing the whole time. It was actually cute)
Anyway, Langa testing Reki's french like that. Going up to him at random moments and asking shit like "on va où après le lunch?" ("Where are we going after lunch") and Reki staring before going "lunch... Lunch... Pizza?" and Langa spraying him. Obvs they're both laughing like dumbasses and there are a few more french questions. Reki gets one or two but also gets sprayed with water a few more times.
Until Langa comes in with a question while Reki's doing dishes or cleaning the shower or something where he has access to water. And before Langa can ask a question, Reki asks one. In Japanese. And with a huge grin because he can see Langa's face as he goes quiet. So Reki grinning and going "C'mon Langa, answer the question" before repeating it a little slower. Langa bolts out of there and the video cuts before he's drenched in water in return

Mon Coeur
Hi. Have some half assed Francophone Langa AU because I was thinking about petnames. Idk. Don't look at me. And don't attack me for this shit feeling OOC (also, Imma just put the singular translation at the end of this one, not in a reblog because it's just one thing)
---
“Mon Cœur.”
Reki giggles as he cuddles closer. His smile is bright as he repeats it back, though rather hesitantly. He has a hard time with the pronunciation but he doesn’t linger on that, not when Langa’s kissing the word off his lips, sweet as always. There’s no lingering on a broken syllable, Reki’s hushed tone filling the comfortable silence.
“What does that mean?”
“My Heart.”
The giggles are beautiful, like early morning waves against a sandy beach. It’s peaceful and breathtaking, a sound Langa will never get enough of. They’re in their own little universe, cuddled up in Langa’s bed. It’s just them and their love; nothing else matters. Together, they’re in paradise, they always are.
“Mon Cœur et mon Amour. ”
“My Love.”
Langa pulls back for a moment to study Reki’s face, but he quickly melts back against him. The smile is out of his control as he cups Reki’s cheeks and presses his forehead to his. The laughter that spills is involuntary, but it’s filled with love. It’s filled with the most concentrated form of love, the only love he ever wants to give His Love.
“Yeah. Yeah, you’re right. You’re picking up on the French rather quickly, mon Trésor.”
“Tré… Treasure? Sounds like the English word, so. Is it treasure?”
Another kiss, one that has Reki sighing against Langa’s lips. Or maybe he’s giggling, Langa can’t tell. All he knows is that he loves this boy. He loves this boy more than he’s ever loved anyone before.
“Mon Âme. Mon âme sœur. L’amour de ma vie. Le seul et unique. Le seul que j’aimerais de toute ma vie.”
“That…” Reki shakes his head, his fluffy red hair framing his beautiful face. “Dude, that was way too many words for me. We said go slow. I’m never gonna learn if you go that fast.”
“Which part do you want me to repeat to you? Because I’m ready to say them to you over and over, until the day I die.”
Reki snorts as he rubs his nose to Langa’s. And as always, Langa melts. He melts, because every touch of Reki’s has his heart fluttering. Every bit of affection that Reki gives him has him falling, always falling, falling like it’s all he knows how to do. Every day he falls a little more for the stars in Reki’s eyes, for the sunshine in his smile, for the comfortable and safe warmth in all that he is. Every day, Langa falls a little more in love with the boy he was so lucky to meet on that one faithful day.
“You’re a sap in any language you speak, aren’t you?”
“Teach me Japanese and I’ll be a sap in that too. Because I know you love it.”
“Then repeat after me.”
The whisper has Langa’s heart flipping in his chest. He doesn’t know what the words mean, but he can feel their meaning. He knows they mean love; they can’t mean anything else, not with the way Reki’s eyes nearly fall shut as he whispers them against Langa’s lips. They can’t mean anything but love as they kiss, slow and filled with the deepest of emotions. They can’t mean anything but love as Langa says them back, the sounds coming out slow and probably horribly butchered.
Another kiss is pressed to Langa’s lips as Reki giggles. His face is flushed but his smile is bright. He’s blushing deeper than Langa’s seen in a long time, but he isn’t hiding his face this time. He doesn’t hide anymore when he blushes, flustered from the overwhelming emotions he’s told Langa he wasn’t used to. He doesn’t try to calm his fire or his giggles as he takes Langa’s face in his hands.
“One day, babe. Someday soon, I hope.”
Langa blinks, confusion suddenly taking over. “Wha… what did I say?”
Another kiss, short and sweet. And Langa could go for another 20, but Reki’s pulling away too soon as his thumb settles on Langa’s lips.
“You’re going to have to figure that one out on your own. But for now, know that I will say yes when you’ll know what you asked me.”
The color drains from Langa’s face, a spike of stress coursing through his body. “Did you just make me p—”
Sweet bliss, that’s the only way to describe Reki’s lips, lips that have been kissed at least 100 times in the past hours. Sweet bliss is the only way to describe the love that hangs on those lips, lips Langa will never get enough of. Sweet bliss, the only way to describe Reki.
“You’ll have to figure it out on your own. But until then, I love you, Langa. Je t’aime. So much.”
Giggles mingle as they break apart momentarily. Giggles fill the air because Reki has the cutest accent. It’s by far the cutest thing Langa’s ever heard. Reki’s voice, in general, has Langa’s head spinning from the adoration he feels for this boy, but when he puts in the effort to say back the things Langa’s said to him, he feels choked up. It’s the best thing anyone has ever done for him. And for Reki, he does the same, whispering words of love right back at him, whispering them in that broken Japanese, the words Reki’s thought him.
He knows he must also have an accent, but just like how he loves Reki’s cute accent, Reki loves his. Reki loves the effort Langa’s putting into trying to learn at least a bit, because if Reki has to learn French, then it’s only fair that Langa learns a language he missed out on learning as a child. They share the struggle of learning a new language, but if they’re learning together, it’s worth it. Because for each other, they’ll go to the end of the world. For each other, they’ll traverse the darkest of paths. For each other, nothing is too great.
---
Translation:
“Mon Âme. Mon âme sœur. L’amour de ma vie. Le seul et unique. Le seul que j’aimerais de toute ma vie.” -> "My Soul. My soulmate. The love of my life. The one and only. The only one I'll ever love." (ok, not a perfect translation of that last sentence, like not a word for word translation, but it is the correct translation. so if you look up the words individually, you'll see that "toute ma vie" means "all my life" but like. There's no good English formulation with that. so just. Idk why I'm justifying myself.)

À la requête de ma grande sœur adorée 💛 j'ai encore pas fait ce que tu voulais, comme d'habitude 😘 SO HERE'S SOME CURSED FRANCOPHONE LANGA AU FLUFF FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY EXCEPT ME!
As usual, translations will be provided in a reblog
---
"Langa... I'm freezing out here! Can't we go in or something?"
Langa blinked at the boy. It was only November and he was dressed like it was the middle of winter: a thick hoodie under his coat and thick wooly socks in his boots. His hands were stuffed deep in his pockets and all he seemed to be missing was a hat and a scarf. Just looking at him Langa felt overheated despite not having a coat of his own. There was no snow yet so a simple long sleeve shirt would suffice for him.
"You... Really don't like the cold, do you?"
"It's not that I don't like it! I'm just... Not all of us are cold blooded Canadians like you! I mean, look around, man! Everyone's got coats except you!"
"It's really not that cold, Reki."
"Can we just go in before my fingers break off?"
Langa sighed as he nodded. He might not have been cold but he wouldn't say no going inside. There were always too many people walking around the downtown streets, from hurried workers to starry eyed tourists. Another thing Langa never understood: why would anyone be impressed by a university campus? It really didn't have anything special except maybe the hoards of students that flocked to the grassy area to study while the weather still permitted it. That was a little impressive.
Reki's hand left his pocket to brush against Langa's. Instinctively, their fingers intertwined, Reki's warm palm against Langa's naturally freezing hands.
"Aw, shit, dude! Your hand is freezing! What are you? A vampire?"
Langa snorted as he glanced back at the boy. "You wish."
Reki stopped dead in his tracks, causing Langa to stumble back. He shook his head as his fingers tightened around Langa who couldn't help but chuckle at the wide amber eyes staring at him. Reki's distaste for the supernatural had always amused Langa.
"Nuh-huh! No way! No monsters! I like my boyfriends very human, thank you very much!"
"Well, lucky for you I'm very much a human. Just, maybe dead inside."
"Class is that bad?"
"You can't even imagine. My professor wants-"
Langa fell quiet as he stared at Reki. He furrowed his brow as he bit the inside of his cheek.
"What?"
"Word. Merde, c'est quoi le mot? You know quand tu dois faire une recherche, mais avec plusieurs disciplines? Like, when tu prends de la psycho, pis un article en socio, pis un en éducation pour faire une recherche à propos de, I don't know, les effets de la télé sur les enfants de moins de cinq ans. Genre, inter... Interdisciplinaire? C'est tu ça? Would make sense if it's that."
"Langa, babe," Reki's eyes were kind as he gave Langa's hand a squeeze. He was so sweet, so kind, at least until exasperation became clear in his big eyes and pointed tone. "I didn't understand a single word you just said. That's honestly worse than your shitty, broken Japanese. So can you please speak English to me?"
"Never mind, it's... It's not important. Let's just go back to my dorm. You said you were cold."
Reki complied as Langa pulled him along, making his way to his building. He even laughed a little as he caught up, pulling Langa's hand into his coat pocket. And with Reki pressed against him, Langa wondered how the boy could be cold when he was so warm to touch. Reki was a walking, talking radiator.
"You just don't want to translate, do you?"
Langa didn't answer. He simply continued going forward because answering meant he would be admitting to his hatred of translation. And admitting to being bad at something, well... Langa much preferred ignoring the problem or hoping that some day, he became magically good at translations of his own incoherent thoughts.
Reki shook from all over the moment they stepped into the building. His hand slipped away from Langa's to be shaken back to life; he hopped around to get his blood circulating once more. He shook and he moved until he was warm enough to be back next to Langa, following him to the elevator. While they could have taken the stairs, Langa definitely did not have the energy to climb up to the 11th floor on his own.
The hall that lead to his dorm was eerily quiet for a Wednesday afternoon. There was no chatter that seeped through the paper thin walls of the old building. No laughter or sobs indicated the presence of anyone. The only sound that resonates through the hall was his and Reki's footsteps against the old linoleum flooring.
Without a word, they both slipped into Langa's dorm, a small room with nothing that could betray the person that Langa was. The walls were bare except for the textbooks he had set up on a suspended shelf over his desk. Nothing stood out, a twin sized bed pushed against the wall with a desk next to it. Even the window had no view, the big glass panel giving on a brick wall. Really, it was a terrible dorm, but it was what he could afford and it was right next to campus, so who was he to complain?
Reki pulled off his boots, neatly placing them by the door before taking off his coat and tossing it onto Langa's desk chair. He rubbed his hands together before blowing into them, red skin like his cheeks. Langa didn't even have to touch to know that his face was that mixture of burning heat and excessive cold, a frozen nose and some warm, blushed cheeks.
"I'm still freezing, man. Don't you have a heater in here or something?"
Langa shook his head. "Broken and I wouldn't count on anyone to fix it. But," a smile pulled at the corners of Langa's mouth as he took Reki's hands in his and guided him to the bed. Both tumbled into the mattress, Langa pulling his blanket over Reki who simply nuzzled his neck, getting comfortable on top of him. "This should do the trick."
They basked in the silence for a moment, a moment to get comfortable against one another, but silence never lasted. Silence wasn't at home between the two, always small sounds escaping Reki, be it giggles or actual words. Silence wasn't at home when Reki was there because to Langa, Reki was home. Reki and his beautiful chatter had Langa feeling happy and safe.
"Langa? Can you talk French again?"
Langa blinked as the boy tilted his head up to look at him. French? Reki wanted him to speak French, voluntarily? He only ever did slip into the language when he felt lost or when he was surrounded by French speaking people. So having Reki ask him to do it purposely, well...
"But you don't understand?"
"Doesn't matter. I just... I like it when you talk French. I don't have to understand the words because... Unless you're actually going on about something and expecting real answers, I don't have to understand the words to understand you. It's... It's in your tone, I think. And it's just calming, dude. I like listening to you."
Langa felt his heart squeeze in his chest as Reki smiled at him. Sweet, beautiful Reki was asking him to speak. Sweet, beautiful Reki was asking him to slip into a language that felt so natural and unnatural to him all at once. Sweet, beautiful Reki wanted to hear his French because he liked it. He liked listening to Langa.
"I... Okay. Uh..." What was he supposed to say? Langa never knew what to say unless asked a question directly. He had always rather be quiet than speak up; it was just easier that way. "J'aime ton rire. J'aime comment tu ris aux trucs les plus ridicules, mais genre ridicule to the point où c'est même plus drôle, mais toi tu trouves ça quand même drôle. Tu trouve juste toujours de la joie dans tout et... Et I like that of you. It's cute how-"
"French, Langa. With your cute voice."
"Right, right, uhm, j'aime ta joie. T'es toujours tellement content pis c'est juste... I don't know. C'est juste que je t'aime. Je t'aime de tout mon coeur. Je t'aime, je t'aime, je t'aime, mon amour. Et je t'aimerai toujours. Même si tu m'aimes plus, je t'aimerais quand même. Parce que tu es ma joie, Reki. Mon bonheur. Je t'aime. Infiniment."
Reki snuggled closer, his nose pressed to the soft skin of Langa's jaw. He pressed closer, legs tangling as his arms wrapped around Langa. He pressed closer as he spoke back to Langa in his native Japanese.
Despite not being fully fluent in Japanese, Langa knew what Reki was saying. He wouldn't be able to repeat the words, but he knew what they meant, the same way Reki had known what Langa had been saying to him in French. It was in the tone, in the touches, in the sweet whispers against his skin. I love you. No matter the language, they were words that always found a way through. They were words that the heart always knew.

Right so like the sinful evil being that I am, I'm cheering myself up by laughing at the chaotic potential of the francophone Langa AU. There's just something infinitely hilarious about both Reki and Langa not having English as a first language but being fluent in it, having it as their shared language. Because even if you're fluent in a secondary language, there's still that first language your brain reverts to. And it's even funnier that they both also know a bit of the other's native language, but not being fluent at all
Basically, all that incoherent rambling to say:
They're both fluent in English but also have moments where they're both shit at it so they'll stare at each other like "I only know how to say this in French/Japanese but I know you won't get it fuck"
And: Langa knows random ass Japanese words he's heard from his mother or grandparents or whatever but was never thought the language. Reki knows enough french to order takeout and say hi and thank you.
Also they have very heavy accents when they try to speak the other's native language and it's adorable

For those who want to compare a Montreal anglophone accent and a Montreal Quebecois/francophone accent, listen to Nikki Yanosky's Necessary Evil (french version) and Simple Plan's Jet Lag (ft. Marie-Mai) or even Summer Paradise (the Montreal version). It's the best examples I could find

I love how weird french pet names are for kids or whatever. Because you have cute one like Mon amour (my love), chaton (kitten), coco (idk what the English equivalent is), but then you get the weirdass ones that are very normal like ma puce (my flea), Mon chou (my cabbage), poulet/poulette (chicken, masc and fem)

Welp since I'm out of electricity, might as well overthink the TikTok au. In particular, what side of TikTok these kids would be on
Langa: Obviously and mainly on GayTok. But he's also got some Trauma content going on, skating and snowboarding. Also the good ol' "lets shit on Canada" content. (bonus point if we mix in my francophone Langa AU, so he gets terrible Quebecois tiktoks and "oh man I love Montreal *video of random ass broken things covered by an orange cone as if that's gonna fic the problem*" content)
Reki: also on the gay side of TikTok. ADHD and trans content as well. Maybe a smidge of that Traumatok, but much less than Langa. Of course he's got all that good skater content. Also lots of cosplay content (because he's always super impressed by how far the cosplayers will go and their amazing transitions, not necessarily because he's in the fandoms).
I'm sure there's more, but also. I don't like thinking.

The cursed Francophone Langa content 😔 Totally not sorta based off of this afternoon's encounter. Also, for the sake of my already broken sanity, Reki is fluent in English in this cursed au. I can't balance three languages at once. So off to the city of hell! You know her, you love her, I have to be downtown three times a week and I am losing it! Can you tell? (Also, the translation of the French will be done in a reblog)
---
"Dude, how the hell do you not get lost? Every building here looks exactly the same!"
Langa glanced around, lips pressed in a thin line. Every street corner did look the same "Yeah, I'm completely lost."
"Dude! You're supposed to be my tour guide! What do you mean you're lost?"
"I'm pretty sure we passed in front of that-!" Langa tensed as a car zipped past the two, clearly going over the speed limit, but without missing a beat, he turned to the where the car once was, shouting. "Osti calisse, ça tentes-tu d'aller plus vite que ça, bonhomme? Heureusement que c'est une zone de 40 pis qu'y a des piétons! Mais merde, osti fou."
Reki blinked, gapping a little. "What... dude, what the shit was that? What language even was that?"
"French...?"
"No. I heard Koyomi watch that insect-catboy superhero show once in French. That was French. Whatever came out of your mouth, dude, that was not French. That was something that was not French and an accent I have never heard in my life."
Langa bit the inside of his cheeks, suddenly self-conscious. He didn't particularly have a heavy accent, did he? Sure, he sometimes slipped into something heavier, especially when annoyed, but it wasn't that bad, was it? Surely, others had heavier accents than him. People still understood him when he spoke, while some people were... not so easy to understand.
"It's how I always talk French. I... I mean, my dad was from here, so..."
Langa flushed as Reki grabbed his arm, eyes sparkling brighter than restaurant neon signs. "Dude, say something else!"
"I... Like what?"
Reki shrugged. "Anything you want."
Langa opened his mouth before snapping it shut. Anything he wanted? What if he didn't want to say anything? Could he just say absolutely nothing? Or was Reki going to pester him until he did say something again?
"You could... read signs? They're written in French so?"
"I'm not reading you street signs to you. All they say is 'street closed until next June,' which we all know actually means it will be closed for the next 4 years."
"C'mon, dude!" Reki pouted as he bounced on his heels. "Just say something! It's the only time I'll ever hear you talk French!"
Langa sighed. Once again, he was giving in to Reki. Once again, he was giving him whatever it was that he wanted. Except, he was getting something out of it as well. He was not letting Reki have all the fun as he pulled the boy close, voice dropping to a hushed whisper to his ear.
"Tu veux juste que j'te dises des mots doux, mon pauvre chéri, mais ça arrivera pas. Parce que, honnêtement, je détestes chaque mots que je suis en train de te dire. Donc je parle, mais en réalité, je dis rien. Des mots vides. Mais en même temps tu m'regarde comme si j'te disais les plus belles chose de l'univers, alors je vais pas arrêter tout de suite. T'as aucune idée de ce que je viens de dire, hein, Reki?"
Reki's face burned red as soon as Langa pulled away, chuckling to himself. The boy burned red as he laughed nervously, pulling on the sleeves of his hoodie. The laughter that bubbled out of him had Langa choking on his own laughter. If gay panic had a specific look, it was whatever was going on on Reki's face.
"So now can I never talk French again?"
"Yeah, let's never do that again!"

Ok I walked around outside and no longer feel lightheaded, BUT I DID FIGURE OUT POTENTIALLY THE NEXT SUBJECT FOR THE FRANCOPHONE LANGA AU

Note
Okay, for the fanfic asks, how about L & T?
Hope your day is going well!
My day is actually going pretty well! I have 30 pages left on the novel I was supposed to finish yesterday and then I'll have to speed through an essay, but it's a lot better than yesterday! I hope your day is going well too <3
L: What’s the weirdest AU you’ve ever come up with?
To most, it's not that weird, but to me the Francophone Langa AU is the weirdest thing. From its origins to my deep, horrible connection to it, it's very, very weird. A cringe kind of weird, but I still love it in a weird way (Now, did I come up with it? Not exactly. It wasn't my original idea, but the way I write it is... I've never seen it before, not written in a way that's so horribly authentic. And I'm not saying my experience with this godforsaken province is the same as everyone here, but it's how I go about my day so.....)
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
Probably? But I can't think of any right at the moment. I'm sure there's something, but I tend to just go 'nope!' and leave, and then forgetting about it immediately, so... yeah

Ngl, I don't know if I'd want to be remembered in this fandom for my actual fics like Baked With Love or You Are My Sunshine or for the chaos that is my TikTok AU or francophone Langa AU
