Apple Highlights Some Of The Most Effective (and Most Popular) Apps Of 2022
As expected, Apple's event right this moment wasn't about heralding any new hardware -- it was about shining some gentle on among the yr's standout apps. (If Android is extra your factor, anticipate Google's own list of first-class apps to drop shortly, too.) Apple's selections this yr run the gamut from artsy -- Spectre Camera helps folks take lengthy-exposure photos with their iPhones -- to sensible fare like Affinity's desktop publishing app for the Mac. With that mentioned, a few of the alternatives listed here are notably attention-grabbing.
Sayonara Wild Hearts was simply essentially the most stylish of Apple Arcade's first games, so its nod right here feels well-warranted despite being a cross-platform title. And the same might be mentioned for Hyper Mild Drifter -- it is a little strange to see it take the crown for Best iPad sport of the 12 months when it debuted on PCs and Macs over three years ago. (Eva Gaspar, CEO of Abylight Studios, informed Engadget they took on the venture of adapting HLD for iOS after completing the Change port final year.) Regardless, there are a handful of fascinating decisions that even we hadn't heard of earlier than, so be certain to take a look at the complete listing beneath.
iPhone App of the 12 months: Spectre Camera (Lux Optics)
iPad App of the Yr: Stream by Moleskine (Moleskine)
Mac App of the Yr: Affinity Publisher (Serif Labs)
Apple Tv App of the Year: The Explorers (The Explorers Community)
iPhone Recreation of the Year: "Sky: Youngsters of the sunshine" (thatgamecompany)
iPad Game of the Year: "Hyper Gentle Drifter" (Abylight S.L.)
Mac Sport of the Yr: "GRIS" (Devolver / Nomada Studio)
Apple Tv Sport of the Year: "Marvel Boy: The Dragon's Entice" (DotEmu)
Apple Arcade Recreation of the Year: "Sayonara Wild Hearts" (Simogo)
As traditional, Apple additionally provided details on the yr's most downloaded apps. You'd most likely see many of those titles coming from miles away, however still -- it is fascinating to see how sure apps, firms and platforms stack up over time. Take TikTok as an example: It is an unabashed phenomenon now, albeit one that is also inflicting concern in the upper echelons of multiple governments. This 12 months, it was Apple's fourth most downloaded free iPhone app -- that is a pretty big leap from final yr, the place it placed 16th.) And while Photography-blogs , Instagram and Snapchat proceed to assert the first, second and third place crowns respectively, Bitmoji dropped out of the highest ten entirely this year. Guess those customized clothes weren't enough to keep individuals hooked.

Playing On Minecraft Servers Fixes Dull Game
Minecraft has been known to be addicting. Minecraft rewards block dexterity in the best ways. When playing Minecraft you get the feeling of being in a hostile terrain. You end up not only living, but also succeeding and making art. Minecraft has an unique system of level progression that lets you feel satisfied. The more resources you have, the better your creations will look.
The game is still in beta and is not flawless yet. There's currently no way to stop the enjoyment. Because there aren't any non-player characters, it can become very lame and make it obvious how poor the Minecraft terrain is. If the landscape becomes boring your sense of grandiosity in this vast and endless land is lost.
Gaming on Minecraft servers do however, treat the majority of these diseases. Other Minecraft online players can create goals. Online gamers are an excellent source of content. You'll be able to show off your sculptures to and the surroundings will be more diverse because it's 100% created by gamers. You'll be able to find unique towns as well as mazes, sculptures and towns in your expeditions.
There are many challenges with locating an online server that's suitable for you. You might want PVP enabled or a more creative gaming environment. You may require an RP server. taking an image You might also want to live in anarchy, without laws. If the rules aren't strong enough, you may end up with unneeded griefers, murderers, and thieves. If the laws are too strict, you may feel lost of control and in a position to design the way you want. It's only enjoyable for those who have power.
There are numerous server websites online however the majority of them aren't good enough, and do not meet my needs. There's a lot on voter -based spamming that turns the entire site into a popularity contest without any indication as to whether it's a good match for YOU. I was looking at an online server recently which used the same description for each of their listings so they could be ranked the top of search results quickly because they have a lot of low-content posts. Many of these directories are also biased, recognizing only those websites that are willing and able to pay for it, and there is no recognition for all other sites.

Minecraft Steve is Back with A Beard
He also cleaned his shoes, but still refuses to tuck his shirt properly.
For the first time in more than 10 years, the cult Minecraft (opens in a new tab) default skin/character Steve has a beard once more in the latest update to Minecraft's upcoming version. There are some minor changes to the texture of the skins for Alex and Steve in the beta launcher. This makes a huge difference.
Steve is now sporting, once again, that iconic beard. rolled up or cuffed sleeves and a bit more definition in color on important areas like the arms, shoes and chest. Perhaps they've just shined the shoes. It's difficult to say, all that mining dust, you know?
Alex wears the same sleeves on her sleeve as Alex but with more contrast colours on their clothing. There's a distinct layering and depth to Alex's hair.
Everyone has been affected by the pandemic that has been around for a long time. A lot of people thought that this was the best time to grow a beard since they weren't going out or doing anything, including, it seems, Minecraft Steve. Freezing A Moment Is that a canon? It's not. It was a joke.
Steve's beard was first lost in 2009, 13 years ago, well before Alex even appeared on the scene. Despite that, the neglected beard still appeared in official artwork at times and even showed up at the time they included Steve in Super Smash Brothers, all down to an Amiibo figure.
Welcome back, beardy Steve. The fans seem thrilled. (opens in a new tab)
In other Minecraft news we've put together the best texture packs (opens in new tab) for the venerable survival game. There's also a trend of ruin-restoring players updating their historical castles in the game (opens new tab) as well as their newly-added old ruin sites. (opens in new tab)

Minecraft Gets Twitch-y with the new Partnership For Integrated Streaming
Twitch and Mojang have partnered to deliver an integrated streaming experience in the indie game Minecraft the two companies announced at MineCon today. Players playing on PC and Mac with an existing Twitch account will be able stream their games to their Twitch.tv channels "soon," according to an announcement in a press release.
Matthew DiPietro, vice president of marketing at Twitch stated in the same press release that Minecraft has "struck a very powerful chord" with Twitch users. The popularity of Minecraft is growing and it demonstrates that people enjoy watching video games, even though they're not among the most popular eSports titles. If Twitch allows you to stream live gameplay you can expect a memorable moment for both players and viewers.
Although this announcement is aimed at PC and Mac users It's important to know that the Xbox One will be getting its own version of Minecraft, and Twitch is integrated into Microsoft's next-gen system. Apple Updates Xprotect Malware Definitions to Shut down "iWorm" Mac Botnet
Apple this weekend updated its XProtect blacklisting system for malware in OS X to address the recent iWorm attack, which is believed to have has infected more than 18,000 Macs. MacRumors and Business Insider noted that a modification to the XProtect.plist.plist file was released on October 4. It included definitions to safeguard users against three variants of the iWorm malware. They were OSX.iWorm.A and OSX.iWorm.B and OSX.iWorm.C.
The malware was discovered by security researchers at Russian anti-virus company Dr Web, the iWorm malware targeted OS X machines, forming an unorganized botnet using a server list posted on Reddit. Although it's not entirely specific how the malware spread, a tip from The Safe Mac suggests that the malware was distributed with pirated Mac software downloaded from The Pirate Bay.
In addition to Apple's anti-malware actions, Reddit also shut down the fake Minecraft subreddit and banned the account responsible for posting the iWorm botnet server list on the subreddit's forums. Without these posts, the iWorm-controlled Macs are unable to connect to the botnet servers that are used by hackers to send instructions to the affected machines.

WoW and FFXIV See Boosted Playtime on Raptr; ArcheAge Playtime 'cracked'
Another Raptr report for another month. Yesterday Raptr.com released its top PC games list for November and MMOs performed quite well. It's no surprise that World of Warcraft has risen to second place thanks to the Warlords Of Draenor expansion. The press release from Raptr states that "The MMO’s monthly play time was up 71% versus October." While WoW "likely" was influenced by League of Legends' numbers but it didn't quite take over the MOBA's number one spot.
Other MMOs, ArcheAge playtime "cratered by 39.97%," but World of Tanks and Final Fantasy XIV both saw an increase in their playtime. Guild Wars 2 rose in rank, Raptr says, but it saw less play time in November in comparison to. October. SWTOR has dropped two spots since October.
Raptr roundups come with the caveat that they only represent Raptr users who play on PC. Certain MMO studios also increase Raptr numbers by offering incentives in game. But as certain games are unable to publish data on population it is possible to consider this the next best snapshot of popularity outside of touring the servers yourself.
[Source: Raptr press release which we're including here] Most played PC Games November 2014 -- Dragon Age, Call of Duty debut, World of Warcraft revived
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Dragon Age: Inquisition made their debuts on the Top Played List this month. World of Warcraft's newest expansion has given the MMO a boost after a ten-year absence. Spider Solitaire also made an unexpected return to the top 20 after a long absence. They know who the guilty parties are.
Highlights
League of Legends maintained its top spot in November, despite losing 15.88% of its playtime in comparison to October. Following the sale on Halloween it reached its peak in the middle of the month. While the game was stable for most of the month, there were a few slowdowns due to the 4.20 update.
World of Warcraft's Warlords of Draenor likely pulled time from LoL as well as other important games. The MMO's monthly play time was up 71.3% versus October. As expected the expansion and the games ten-year anniversary celebrations had a significant impact on daily play, which roughly doubled after the launch of the Draenor expansion, and remained steady until the November's end.
The rest of the top five games were not as fortunate. DOTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Smite saw a net decrease in hours. Smite beat ArcheAge for fifth. Although DOTA 2 and CS:GO suffered double digits drops (12.49 percent and 11.59 percent respectively), Smite was down less than 1.
Archeage In contrast, it was cut by 39.97 percent; thus Smite's small climb to the top of the list.
The downward trend continued with Minecraft (-11.70 percent), Diablo III (down nearly 45% -- we blame WoW) and Hearthstone (-13.11%, though we expect a rebound to come in December thanks to Goblins vs Gnomes).
Chart newcomer Dragon Age: Inquisition made an impressive debut into November's Most PlayedChart, placing tenth despite a release date of late November.
World of Tanks saw a lower playtime, but it managed to gain 7.72% more play time than October. Although the WGLNA Gold League Qualifying Rounds took place throughout the month, the game was at its highest during Thanksgiving weekend due to XP multipliers, holiday deals on premium items and the Thanksgiving weekend.
Final Fantasy XIV increased in play time by 20.97%. This could be due to the release of the Game of the Year edition that added 60 days of adventure (plus all previously released content) in the late months of October and early November. Mid-month DDOS attacks caused login problems, didn't have a major impact on play time.
Each Guild Wars 2 and Warframe rose in rank, despite having less play time in November than in October. Warframe hosted a Movember community event, which resulted in a Guinness World Record. Guild Wars 2's Tangled Path content released with new areas, items, skins, and much more.
Call of Duty: Advance Warfare -- always an Xbox-based juggernaut launched in early November and based on current trends we may not see it in December's Most Played. Taking an image
For the first time since October 2013, Spider Solitaire made its way back into Most Played. Turns out Thanksgiving isn't just about turkey, football and arguing with your relatives -- it's also about playing Solitaire, as gameplay hours for the month topped out on the 27th.
Note The Share number for each game represents the percentage of time spent on the game by Raptr members. It is useful to evaluate the time of play between different games.

Steam Guides are a Waste of Time Bunch of Nonsense PC Gaming Fans Say
Steam guides are a fantastic solution to problems and finding collectibles within games. While we'd of course encourage you to come to PCGamesN for everything from Fortnite Kamehameha locations to Minecraft Enchantments, the user-created guides integrated into the Steam Community page are a quick and easy tool that can be extremely helpful in times of need. However, many users say that the feature is plagued with joke entries and players trying to get awards from Steam Points.
Steam Points are earned through the purchase of games and add-ons from the Steam store. You can use them to purchase various items from the Steam Points shop - these are mostly cosmetic items that can be used to personalize your Steam profile page and avatar and emoticons and chat effects you can use to talk to other users on Steam. Steam Points are available to other players as 'awards' - it is typically done as thanks for a helpful guide or review.
Steam Points are also frequently handed out to people who create funny content. Users claim that Steam guides is overflowing with joke guides, hoping to earn Steam Points from other players. The Steam guides section now contains many entries which, while entertaining however, aren't really useful.
This issue was brought up in a thread on Steam that was called "Steam guides in the past and now - I'd like to go back" and quickly gained traction. Many users lament the flood of spam entries and complain that they have missed the days when guides was easy to find. In theory, the best guides for a game can be voted up - but some users in the thread claim they've been putting off posting guides or browsing them on Steam because the user experience is poor nowadays.
Some commenters also point out the same issue with Steam reviews. One user complained that Valve encouraged too many Steam reviews, starting with the "Funny" button. This suggests that Steam reviews have led to a level infidelity that has impacted PC gamers' ability to find the most accurate reviews of products.
Hopefully Valve will take action to tidy up the section. Photography blogs In the meantime, if you require more useful PC game guides, we've got them to offer - whether you're looking for CS:GO console commands, an overview of the top GTA servers for RP and how to join them, all you must know about the Tower of Fantasy 1.5 update, or the most effective Sims 4 mods to install in 2022.

Minecraft Hackers Put Up Hundreds Of Non-public Login Particulars On-line
Microsoft was left red-faced over Christmas when its Xbox One service was infiltrated by hackers, and is now facing a similar problem.
Reports on a German website claim that a list of 1,800 Microsoft-owned Minecraft usernames and passwords has been published online.
If they have access to these information A security expert warns that hackers could gain access to accounts, change settings and purchase virtual items.
Heise Online reported the hack and many of those verified accounts (selection of which are shown) are believed to belong to German gamers. While it's not entirely clear how the hackers obtained the credentials, security analyst Graham Cluely stated that there are a myriad of possibilities. This includes malware and phishing attacks as well as security breaches.
Heise Online reported the hack and a large portion of the verified accounts are believed be belonging to German gamers.
It is unclear how the hackers managed to get their hands on the credentials, however security analyst Graham Cluely wrote on the Hot for Security blog: There are a variety of possibilities, from simple phishing attack to keylogging malware stealing players' details as they log into the game, or a security breach in Minecraft itself.
Is it time to update your login details? '123456' was the password for... is the end of the world nigh? Atomic scientists set to make... The app that allows you to FAKE a relationship invisible... Do you think Google plan to buy Netflix? Experts reveal the tech...

"Let's hope that it's not last time, as the game has more than 100 million registered users.
MailOnline was informed by a Microsoft spokesperson that they were able to confirm that there was no Mojang.net services were compromised.
"Normal procedures" in the industry were developed to handle situations like this. They were used to reset passwords for a small number of affected accounts.
Minecraft was first created in 2009.
A character is placed into a "virtually infinite" game world at the beginning of the game.
Players are provided with blocks and tools to construct cities and towns.
Although the original game was intended to be played on the PC There are now mobile versions and Xbox 360.
The hack isn't huge based on the large number of registered users.
But, as Mr Cluely said: 'If unauthorised users exploited the passwords and email addresses that were exposed, they could not only access other players' gameworlds and download a full version of the game which normally sells for EUR19.95 Euros ($26.95 or PS17.95).'
A cybercriminal can also access an individual's email address to hack other accounts, send malware, or even send spam.
Mr Cluely also said that there's no guarantee that the hacker who made this list of hacks also doesn't have more 'in their back pocket.'
In September, Microsoft purchased Mojang for $2.5 billion (PS1.5 Billion).
