I started On the Moon Arts over 4 years ago as a reboot and reimagination of On the Moon Music. At OTMM I managed bands but during the course of the 5 years in between the two companies, I worked as a talent buyer doing shows Union Hall and Bell House and that’s where I really fell in love with comedy and other quirky forms of art and expression. Thus began my journey in exploring the “other” genre. While I was working Inland Empire I had the opportunity to continue to work with music and comedy, but really felt lucky when I had the amazing opportunity to work with @rupaulsdragrace on the Battle of the Seasons tour. It was the middle of the 5th season of RPDR, right before Jinkx Monsoon won and I convinced Jay Belin to buy the show for Live Nation and our show Gramercy Theatre in NYC sold out quickly. Then the industry started to pay attention to drag as a serious viable art form that can be presented in rock clubs and theaters instead of just in gay clubs. Eventually, I started my own company and On the Moon Arts was born. I changed “Music” to “Arts” because I knew I wanted to represent and give a voice to artists who don’t fit into a neatly defined box. I wanted to work with unique and innovative voices. I reached out to artists from my talent buying days to see if they wanted to work together and felt lucky to have worked on Haunting Renditions with Eliot Glazer for a bit before he moved to LA and Ophira Eisenberg also said yes to working together and now she is one of my absolute rocks in the industry but also as a genuine friend. She actually helped me ideate what I am announcing today - the On the Moon Arts Holiday Party (an intergalactic variety festival)!! It’s a two day mini fest featuring most of the artists I feel so grateful to work with plus some other artist friends who I have also adored over the years. Thursday and Friday, January 3 & 4 at Littlefield in Brooklyn. There are individual day tickets for $15 or 2-day passes for $20! Flyer by Annie Moor!

Mark Lotterman - Happy (official video directed by Alice Saey) from Alice Saey on Vimeo.

People should be happy. Even this Egyptian goose, who tries to cast a spell on us with a seductive dance. Its gracious and clumsy movements captivate us. But it’s not the only one to master the dance. Three flocks of geese each led by their guru goose also share the pond; all of them torn between their desire to express their own individuality and the urge for group behavior. Soon the water begins to rise. Never mind. The geese will keep on dancing for us until they drown. A video about the search for ones own identity through seemingly audacious self-expression on the one hand and the undeniable drowning into the masses on the other.
Rotterdam based singer/songwriter Mark Lotterman found a very special way to release his 5th record, HOLLAND. He asked painters, filmmakers, writers, scientists, and photographers to contribute something to one of the songs from the album. Visit albumholland.com

The environment of the film festival world has changed dramatically over the last few years due to the emergence of film festival portals, affordable film making tools, and online distribution models. How have these changes affected the selection process of film festivals? What are the new challenges for film makers? What is the importance and relevance of film festivals in a world of online distribution? How should you strategize your film submissions? This panel aims to address the challenges and opportunities that arise from these prominent developments, with participants from both sides of the dynamic.
Learn from the following panelists:
Susan Godfrey is the proprietor of The Productive, an affordable co-working studio located at 40 West 38th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. The Productive was created to bring New York City artists and writers together in a comfortable space, away from the distractions of life, so that they might benefit from the camaraderie, competition, and collaborative nature of working among their similarly motivated peers. Susan Godfrey attended the School of Visual Arts and received a degree in animation. Missing the discipline she used to have for her own projects while she was in school, Susan dreamed of belonging to a community of creative professionals that could help eep her motivated while she pursued her animation career. With her dedicated plotting and scheming, The Productive was born. Katie Cropper Klein is a life long New Yorker and animation artist. A graduate of the traditional animation program at Pratt Institute in 2007, she has spent most of her animation career working in and out of the independent animation and commercial studio circuit. Serving as a board member of The New York chapter of ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation / International Animated Film Association) she has been the mailing list administrator as well as blogger and web contributor. In 2012 she was made co-chairwoman of the ASIFA East awards and festival. The festival and awards have been a member curated show since its inception in 1969 and is a classic New York animation tradition. In the fall of 2015 Katie was elected president of ASIFA East by the executive board. After 3 years of working with Susan Godfrey at The Productive Studios as an associate producer, artist, and partner she joined Bustle Digital Group as part of their editorial video team. As of July 2016 she is the resident lead animator.
Don Cato is an experimental and feature film maker with a strong academic background, a BS and BLA in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State and an MLA from the University of Oregon where he also studied extensively in the department of Motion Graphics. His films have screened at an international and eclectic group of venues and festivals: Anthology Film Archives, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Lincoln Center, the Dylan Thomas Center in Wales (Best Feature for Be My Oswald in 2006), RealHeART Toronto Film Festival (Best in Venue for Be My Oswald in 2007) and Everglades Film Festival, South Africa. He was the Director of the Eugene Filmmakers Cinematique for 4 years while he distributed films from China and in 1978 he was one of the first western filmmakers allowed into China to create an immersion documentary: China: Behind Silk Curtains. Currently Don teaches at the New York Digital Film Academy and the Buckley School for Boys and under his guidance, over 20 student driven short films are produced each year.
Shannon Walker is a writer, producer, and (sometimes) actor living in New York City. She is a two time Writer’s Guild Award nominee, co-executive producer of The Writer's Guild East Awards Show, and co-founder of The Lower East Side Film Festival.
Moderator: Faiyaz Jafri was born and raised in rural Holland of Dutch and Pakistani descent. He studied at the Technical University of Delft (MSc) and is self-taught as an animation artist and music composer. His work has been exhibited in the form of print, paintings, video installations, animations and life-size sculptures all over the world. Jafri’s award-winning films have screened at prestigious festivals and museums. He has worked for commercial clients including, IBM, Coca-Cola, and Ford. In 2016 Jafri co-founded the Third Culture Film Festival, the first truly independent film festival in Hong Kong. He is also the curator and creative director of the festival.
