I just watched Gaya Sa Pelikula (Like in the movies) and oh my goodness gracious. It's a work of ART. The comfortability of the actors with each other, their skills, the girl(Anna I think) standing outside the door listening to and giving commentary on their argument. Also the condom ad at the beginning of ep 3 and the 'he likes it cold' sent me crying-laughing in the most positively agressive way possible. Everyone that had anything to do with this series deserves multiple awards. Honestly I'm not mad at the ending, it was just what was needed. Also the fact that it was said and shown many times that it's okay to not be ready to come out. And even though some characters had less screen time than the others (obviously), they were all still memorable enough even characters that didn't appear on screen at all. This was a ride. Definitely recommend to everyone. It's also really funny, I was laughing through it all.
This isn't a very well put together review, but it can't be better than this, because my hands are shaking from the excitement. Anyways, now that my rant is satisfied, how do I move on from this?
I read a lot of books and once in a while you stumble across this wonderful book that makes every other book you read for some period after look like trash and I feel like this is what Gaya Sa Pelikula will do to me. But it's fine, I love all my dramas.

I've been doing a post every episode while rewatching Gaya Sa Pelikula but episode 5 has so many moments. The montage of Vlad absolutely failing to hide his crush. Anna being like would you like Vlad if you were gay, Vlad being like ! , and Karl being like yeah with no hesitation before giving a detailed explanation as to why. Vlad having to be coaxed into dancing and then just dipping Karl. The almost kiss. It's actually my favourite episode

hiiii nico!!! 🥰💙 in honour of us: top five friendships in dramas/films <3
hiii ellis caro!! 💞💞 okay here we go, absolutely in honor of us!!
cool gang from dark blue kiss/kiss the series - they are so dear to me, the bestest of friends and the way they're together through thick and thin 🥺💘
juwon and jaeyi from beyond evil - literally the best. it all started from eggs. (it always does.) BUT LIKE they came to care about each other so much and they respect each other, they're different but, just like people naturally do in manyang, stick together in the end 😭😭
the gang in wake up chanee - they are the BEST!!!! s1 is so near to my heart they are the loveliest friends 💞💞
gamri and her besties from hometown cha cha cha - i just love old ladies sticking together until the very end and beyond, they were the best!!! i know they're having their picnic now... :cri:
karl and anna from gaya sa pelikula - they mean so much to me please i'm 😭😭 she never judges him or pushes him too far, just gently nudges him towards putting himself out there a little more, and only when she knows he's ready!!
thank you ellis!!!! 🥰🥰💙

30 DAY BL DRAMA CHALLENGE DAY 5: FAVOURITE FEMALE CHARACTER
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anna Marcos Actor: Yesh Burce Drama: Gaya Sa Pelikula (Like in the Movies) Country of Origin: The Philippines Available on: YouTube
I circled around Khim (I Promised You the Moon) and Felice (Young Royals) but in the end the only answer to this question for me is Anna. Tough, funny, sad, sweet, enthusiastic, supportive, loving Anna, who stands up for herself so fiercely and shows Karl how to do that too. Anna is the type of supporting character I call a 'tangential' because she has her own life offscreen in which she is the protagonist, but her importance to the main story is also strong. She has agency and autonomy and doesn't just exist to be a foil, cheerleader, advisor or punching bag for the main characters. In a genre that often doesn't do right by its women, Anna stands out as a fully realised character and an example of great writing.
I can't say enough about how fantastically Yesh Burce brought Anna to life. She finds the hint of sadness underneath Anna's bright, sunny, go-get-em demeanour and understands the type of sadness it is. Anna is not a melancholy or tragic figure, but more wistful; she longs in some ways for the youth she didn't get to have, but there is no bitterness in it, no real regret. Yesh plays that beautifully, the hint of sadness in a woman who had to grow up too fast, who had to give up things she wanted to have, but refuses to let that get her down.
Anna's showcase comes in episode 5, when she decides to hang out with Karl and Vlad during a blackout at the condo building, as their attraction to each other is growing and Karl is starting to consider his sexuality in the face of that attraction. The conversation between Karl, Vlad and Anna serves the dual purpose of rounding Anna out as a character by allowing her to tell her backstory (and allowing Yesh to act her face off), and giving Karl the space and support necessary to start thinking about whether he is who he thinks he is or whether there are things he's never admitted even to himself. Without Anna's presence in that scene to be nosy and get in their business (in an endearing way), maybe Karl doesn't take the leap.
Also, anybody who calls their gay bestie 'oppa' is my kinda broad.

Judit, an ally's not supposed to be cornering someone like that. Stop it. It's just so inappropriate.

I had an actual breakdown after watching episode 7 of Gaya Sa Pelikula because oh. oh. I’ve been in Karl’s shoes. I know what it feels like. The terror...the shame...the self hatred...wondering if I’ve always been ‘obvious’ and if everyone around me sees me like that...being afraid to even say or think the word. But the thing we all have to remember is that Vlad’s feelings is just as valid as Karl’s. No one should be forced to come out and no one should be pushed back in. Period. Gaya Sa Pelikula isn’t just a bl that caters to fan service, it’s an accurate representation of the struggles that those of the LGBTQ+ community face. And that’s why it’s hands down one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever seen

Anna’s Theme Song Test
Tumblr media
The way Anna saw her daughter while listening to music- her own theme song test. I’m still in awe of the parallels within this show. Power to all the single parents out there! ✊🏽 ❤️

I get why you all are angry with Ate Judit. Hell I don't even want to be in Karl's shoes in that interrogation. But she did warn us that aside from being a cool sister she can also be a fierce one.
As she said she is a sister first and I respect her for that. She already saw how Vlad was broken from his past boyfriend because the guy wasn't ready yet. Ate Judit might have seen how Vlad suppressed his affections for his ex in public or have been introduced as a friend or something and she doesn't want that to happen again.
I know it's none of her business but did you read this line?
Tumblr media
She knows Vlad will go back in (the closet) with Karl out of love. She may have seen that happen to him with his ex. And she's having none of that. Not again.
I know Ate Judi may be a shitty ally. But she's trying her best as an eldest sister.
