He was not brought back to kill Madame Jin.

But perhaps making a clean sweep of it all is simply for the best. He'll have to ask Jiang Yanli what her opinions are about her mother-in-law. He assumes there nothing good.

"Stop looking like that," Jin Guangyao says, somehow without moving his mouth at all and bland smile still in place.

That's a neat trick.

"Look like what? This is just my face," he says then rubs at his nose when Jin Guangyao raises an eyebrow. "Why is she - it's hardly like you're an outlier!"

"Xuanyu-mei," he says mildly, voice low enough that they won't be overheard.

He scowls and crosses his arms. In these robes it has the unfortunate effect of pressing his breasts front and center but he's refusing to acknowledge that.

There's the sound of a scuffle and he glances to see Jingyi attempting to beat an Ouyang disciple with his sleeves and Sizhui putting in a half-hearted effort to stop him. What's that about?

They're going to have to tell Sizhui. He hopes he'll be excited. It'll be quite a bit of an age difference, but he still wants Sizhui to be happy about having a sibling. Or at least not upset about it. Or not upset about it for long, he amends, because Jiang Cheng hadn't exactly been thrilled at first. To be fair, Wei Wuxian hadn't been either.

"You're pouting like a child," Jin Guangyao says. "Can you at least pretend to have some decorum?"

"No," he says, eyes drifting to where his siblings are speaking with the Yu sect leader. How had Uncle Jiang told them about him? From his memory, he thinks that he didn't and just showed up with him one day.

That probably won't work on Sizhui. There are a couple things he might notice.

Uhg he's just gotten used to this body and it's going to start doing new and different things. He hopes this doesn't mess with his core too badly - he's worked hard on it!

"When are you coming back to Gusu?" he asks. That would be an ideal time for him to kill some people, because anyone with half a brain cell is going to suspect Jin Guangyao when Jin Guangshan dies.

Granted, getting him away from the scene of the crime won't do much to alleviate suspicion. It's not like he's not perfectly capable of orchestrating a high profile murder from half a world away, after all.

"When Xichen can devise an excuse, I suppose," he answers, mouth twisting.

Wei Wuxian leans so he can use his stupidly ornate robes as a cover for briefly grasping his forearm.

This whole marriage thing is so stupid and he understands that now in a way he hadn't when he'd first arrived. Mo Xuanyu had killed herself rather than marry and Lan Zhan had been stoic and furious and uninterested.

It was supposed to be Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen.

Making two of his favorite people miserable for no reason is more than enough reason to kill him, surely. He's done more for less.

Nope

when was the last time you cried?

At Easter. Jesus, I've had a full meltdown that morning. Ugly crying in my pillow for the first time in years. But since then I feel so light.

do you have kids?

No and I doubt I will ever have any… Sometimes I want one but this must be hormones because I would hate that lifestyle.

do you use sarcasm a lot?

Naah, I can't see the appeal. A sarcastic comment can be funny sometimes, but if you use it in excess most people will be on edge around you… I don't like to interact with people who makes me feel silly, so I try to avoid making people feel that way.

what’s the first thing you notice about people?

I don't know how to describe this but is like… The space they ocuppy. The way they move. How they interact with their surrounds, like, if they make a lot of noise, if they are careful handling things… I'm notably bad at noticing/retaining physical characteristics but that soet of thing always pick my attention.

what’s your eye color?

Brown. Unfortunately not the big, sad brown eyes type but I'm still winning.

scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings all the way. I'm not even ashamed of it anymore. I hate being scared, but even more I love to see/imagine the many different ways in which characters can find happiness/purpurose/meaning.

any special talents?

No T.T That's not me being modest, I'm average at everything I do and I have few hobbies.

where are you born?

at the riverside.

what are your hobbies?

is "consuming media" a valid answear? I'm trying to change it, I swear. For now I only write, and play chess alone. I won't be including "cooking" because even if I enjoy it, it's still something I need to do.

do you have any pets?

No ;-; I want to, in the future, but I never had pets and I'm not sure if I could take care of one properly. If I had one, it would be a cat or a small dog, because I'm that original. (And I wouldn't be allowed to have a jaguar. Or a tiger.)

what sports do you/have you played?

Bold of you to assume that I ever played sports. I'm too lazy./ I love swimming but I have no access to a pool for now.

dream job?

Ok, ok, that's a hard one. My first answar would be an editor — for fiction, especifically. Reading texts all day and helping authors in their creative process? I can't imagine anything better. But what about telling authors that they have to change their beloved creation because it isn't marketable? Doesn't sounds that nice. So is it a dream job if I'm not sure about all the aspects of it?

But the reason I didn't try to pursue it is because very few people read here so it's not a viable career option.

That's also the reason why I'm not going to the other side of the table either. Being an author is the one thing that I have yerned to be for half of my life now (it's more a curse than a dream, tbh) and I will publish a book one day, at least one, but that is something I'll have to do for fun.

There are many other things that I would like to do, cleaning, teaching, etc, but I noticed that they are more "fun things I could do if weren't for shitty people/laughable pay/violence" than "dream jobs".

Maes told Riza not to do it but the only one she'll sometimes listen to is Roy and Roy's dead.

Roy’s dead and when he wakes to a gun going off in the middle of the night, right in the center of camp, he knows that Riza’s dead too. Even if she’s managed to kill Elric instead of being killed by him, she won’t live for long. She’ll be executed for getting rid of one of the military’s most valuable assets.

Maes leaves his tent to see Elric standing there, and his heart drops.

Elric looks like shit, sleep rumpled and pale and deep circles under his eyes, and if he’s alive then Riza isn’t.

“It’s alright,” he yawns, “just a little accident with Denny. Sorry ‘bout that.”

The general steps forward. “Since you’re awake-”

“I’m going back to bed,” he says shortly. “I’ll give my report when I’m not on the verge of passing out.”

He opens his mouth, but Elric turns his back on him and heads back to his section of camp. He doesn’t say anything about Riza. He’s not going to try and hide her body, is he? There’s no point. No one’s going to care about him killing her, not with who he is and what he does.

He goes to Riza’s tent and finds Havoc already there, pacing anxiously. “Do you think-“

“I don’t know,” he says, because he doesn’t know, but he can guess.

Havoc knows that and his face tightens in misery. “Maybe she-“

“Havoc,” he says tiredly, because false hope will kill them both, and then where will they be?

The flap pushes open and he sees blonde hair but it’s Brosh, looking at them both in resignation. Was he the one that did it? Elric had said that it was Denny, but who knows, really.

“Come on,” Brosh sighs. “I really don’t want to explain this twice.”

Top Ten Five Books 2020

uh, I have the memory of a goldfish, so I’m not sure how many books I remember reading vs how books I actually read, but here’s the five books I remember, in no particular order:

1) Mo Dao Zu Shi: read this at the beginning of quarantine bc I wanted to know what the fuck was going on in the first episode of The Untamed and blew through it in 2-3 days

2) Tian Guan Ci Fu: read this more recently, in Quarantine Pt 2 (bc the USA is full of dumbasses), but I almost love it more than mdzs

3) The Umbrella Academy (Apocalypse Suite & Dallas): I wanted to read the source material for the netflix show bc I absolutely loved the show, and Gerard Way is awesome, so I wanted to read the books. It falls victim to comic book sexism and I have to say that I like the show’s portrayal of the Hargreeves much better, because they’re far more likable, but the books were decent.

4) Green Heart: this was a reread of my favorite book of all time. technically, green heart is two books, Green Angel and Green Witch, but my copy is the double, soooo.... It’s a wonderful garden-and-steam-punk story about grief and moving on and rebuilding after disaster and I love it so much. (By Alice Hoffman)

5) In Cold Blood: THIS BOOK WAS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE AND IF I HADN’T BEEN GRADED ON IT I WOULD HAVE BURNED MY COPY! IT IS ABSOLUTE GODDAMN GARBAGE AND I HATED IT SO MUCH!
