USA open RWC Repechage with lop-sided win over Kenya
The USA opened the World Cup Repechage tournament with a 68-14 win over Kenya on Sunday. Sticky conditions in Dubai contributed to some sloppy play from the Eagles in the first half, but they were always in control with their dominant scrum wearing down the Simbas pack.
It was a scrappy start to the game from both sides, and Siaosi Mahoni was then sent to the bin for a reckless clearout at a ruck. The USA regained possession and Paul Lasike crashed through the defense, with Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz powering over but his grounding was deemed a second-movement and the try was waved off.
A cross-kick from Luke Carty resulted in a yellow to Geoffrey Okwach for dangerous play, the Kenyan winger leaping feet-first into the air. At last a score came for the Eagles through hooker Dylan Fawsitt, who peeled around the back of a lineout and charged through the line.
Darwin Mukidza attempted a long-range penalty goal for Kenya that was off-target. At the other end Fawsitt got a double on a straight-forward lineout drive. Before halftime Fa’anana-Schultz muscled over to redeem his earlier miss and make it 19-nil to the Eagles after 40 minutes.
Fawsitt got his hat trick not long into the second half from another lineout drive, and then Christian Dyer’s inside line caught the defense wrong-footed for another USA try. Kenya found a burst of inspiration and broke down the field, with Brian Juma on the end to get the Simbas on the board.
The Eagles fired back with three tries in quick succession. Nate Augspurger touched down after a Mitch Wilson break, then Dyer grabbed a brace at the end of a long attacking sequence that started at the USA’s 22-meter line. Dyer would match Fawsitt’s triple on a miss-out pass from AJ MacGinty.
Mike Sosene-Feagai was next to find the line from a driving maul, and then Wilson himself slipped through to make it an even 10 tries for the Eagles. A late consolation score went to Kenya as the loose forwards combined to free Joshua Weru for a breakaway try on debut.
Hong Kong will take on Portugal next to wrap up the first round in Dubai. Next week will see the Eagles playing the Dragons, while Os Lobos will square off against the Simbas.

2014 INSTAGRAM FASHION ROUNDUP PART II
After the first part of our 2014 Instagram Fashion Roundup, I’ve decided to bring you the second serving since you’re not the only ones who are eaaaager to take a closer look at the gorgeous garments Gaga wore in her Jazz-accented era.
Tumblr media
"My 'unwrapping my shoppin' outfit #ladiesnight #getthewine 👗👠👜💋"” Gaga instagrammed on July 6th after a huge shopping trip at Divine Decadence Originals in Toronto.
The singer wore a yellow and blue gingham print V-neck top and matching scarf she styled as a headband by Missoni.
Tumblr media
On July 11, Gaga showed off the outfit she wore to meet fans after her show in Chicago.
The light short-sleeved bouclé jacket with buttoned front and matching pencil skirt are from Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2009 prêt-à-porter collection, sourced from I Miss You Vintage.
Her fine sheer daisy lace corset with garters is a 1950s piece from Warner’s "Merry Widow" line which Gaga found at Divine Decadence Originals. Warner’s released its first line of "Merry Widow" foundation garments in 1952. The collection was inspired by the release that same year of the movie "The Merry Widow", whose star, Lana Turner, was featured wearing an elaborate, long-line corset.
Tumblr media
"Me and @jeffkoonsstudio giving a group chat today. Asia came along too, she dressed me." Gaga mingled among the guests at Yellowstone Club on July 18, wearing another Chanel creation - this time from the Pre-Fall 2008 “Paris-London” Métiers d’Art collection!
The short-sleeved black bouclé jacket and balloon skirt set boast jewel-embroidered floral buttons, pockets, stand-up collar and hem. And yes, this is yet another I Miss You Vintage discovery.
Tumblr media
On the same day she took a flight in a helicopter, rocking a vintage beaded coat from Carolina Herrera’s Fall/Winter 2002 collection. This romantic beauty features a floral pattern all over.
Underneath she wore her favorite vintage Iron Maiden distressed shirt.
Tumblr media
The oversized black frames are the Ultra Goliath II sunglasses are from the Vintage Frames Company x Goliath “Dr. Shapiro” collection.
Tumblr media
Back on January 22, Gaga posted a selfie on Little Monsters with the caption “#GunnarSelfie. I love these glasses. Patented technology, keep my eyes from computer/phone screen stinging. #DOPE”.
The vintage 1980s IIF orange & black suede jacket with round, gold-tone studs was customized by DOG owner Kai Satake with various Medusa medaillons, rectangular metal appliqués and many other elements.
Tumblr media
The glasses are the GUNNAR Intercept glasses in “Fire”.
With the introduction of the INTERCEPT Color Collection, they’ve given everyone, from hardcore gamers to creative designers to technophiles of all types, a chance to show off their individuality and style – while protecting and enhancing their vision.
Tumblr media
On November 18, Gaga posted a photo of herself signing copies of 'Cheek to Cheek’.
She wore Matthew Adams Dolan’s Spring/Summer 2015 blue loose-fit denim jeans with fringe details on the sides and open leg along with a vintage Mötley Crüe band tee.
Tumblr media
“Heathrow baby, on to the next flight Geoffrey Beene Vintage on the plane and some panther earrings 🐾 meow I can’t wait to see my fans in Dubai one more flight!“ were the words that accompanied Gaga’s selfie on September 8.
She sported vintage Geoffrey Beene. This satin dress belongs to his Fall/Winter 1983 collection and boasts quilted red panels, a slit neck and gold embroidery.
Pictured above is a similar jacket and dress from the same collection.
Tumblr media
The Italian-American beauty accessorized with a pair of custom shades that little monster and young hobby designer Daniel Stephen made for her.
Tumblr media
Her panther door knocker earrings are vintage Ciner with diamante and green eyes set in gold tone metal, dating back to the 1960s.
Tumblr media
She also sported this Tiffany & Co. 18k yellow-gold bow twist wire ring on her pinky finger!
Tumblr media
The same day she posted this adorable bedtime selfie with the caption "And now it's sleepy time, I'm meeting Asia in Dubai but I miss her so I dressed like a jazzy 🐷😂".
She’s looking cozy and adorable in this Kigurumi Shop fleece pig onesie which features a buttoned front and the cutest piggy face on the hood!

IL PLEUVAIT DES OISEAUX en tête des nominations du Gala Québec Cinéma 2020
Tumblr media

Now open, Fair Isle is Ballard's first brewery focused exclusively on rustic ales
This past Thursday, under a gloomy, rain-filled afternoon in January, Fair Isle Brewing finally opened their doors to eager fans. The reward for those who packed the doorway, the chairs, tables and countertop space was a list of beers unique to the Ballard neighborhood. But already many reading might make the case that Ballard already has a brewery (or two) like Fair Isle, but this ignores the fact that no brewery in Ballard currently focuses, exclusively, on rustic or mixed-culture ales.
First announced in 2016, by founders Andrew Pogue and Geoffrey Barker, Fair Isle Brewing gets its name from the traditional knitting technique, and focuses on mixed-culture and wild beers, like Saisons, Grisettes, Bier de Garde, “Farmhouse”, or American-style sour beers.

Starting with a partnership with Jester King (Austin, TX), Andrew and Geoffrey scaled their collaborative efforts as cooperative homebrewers, to educate and experiment with various ingredients sourced both organically and from various traditional suppliers. The result between Andrew, Geoffrey, and Jester King netted them their first release, a low-alcohol “farmhouse” ale, made with fireweed from the Cascades and fermented with both Fair Isle and Jester King’s cultured yeast strain - Fair Voyage.
Signing a lease agreement in August 2018, Pogue and Barker, in cooperation with North Coast Metal Design and Fabrication, Dolan Built, and Jeunesse Architects, got to work on converting four unique buildings into a brewery, commissary, taproom, and barrel room. As they expected, both Dolan Built and Jeunesse Architects were the perfect fit for Pogue and Barker’s schedule. In between design and building, the foursome invested sweat equity to produce what is now viewable to the public.
The result is a 15-barrel brewery warehouse, complete with an adjacent bottle conditioning storage area, a commissary or rental space for large party engagements, and a 48 person taproom, complete with takeaway beers from both Fair Isle and guest breweries which complement Fair Isle’s unique style. Besides the 80 person private Orchid room and the 48 person taproom, Fair Isle will have a 40 person beer garden available once the weather transitions from its seasonal rain and cold to a warmer, sunnier, disposition.

The ownership and staff would like to clarify that Fair Isle’s taproom, beer garden, and private room, are exclusive to ages 21 and over and also prohibits pets because of King County food licensing requirements. Call it the unfortunate side-effect of Washington state liquor laws but in order for the brewery to feature both in-state and out-of-state wineries, cideries, or breweries, it required a Tavern license. For the time being, there are no plans to change this and the staff and ownership hope you will still visit.
During a rare opportunity to experience the beers first hand, Fair Isle Brewing’s draft list consisted of:
Madam R. Galle. “Our standard saison inspired by our favorite Wallonian saisons.”
Petra. “Our standard saison, dry hopped with our rotating brewer’s choice hop - Hallertau Blanc.”
Bobbi. “A saison brewed and dry hopped with new world hops - Loral, Citra, and Mosaic.”
Eliot. “A petit saison brewed with Einkorn, an Ancient Wheat.”
Winona. “A departure from our typical yeast profile, we bring you tart saison brewed with spelt.”
Sadie. “A doughy saison brewed with equal part barley and wheat.”
In addition to these the following guest beers, cider, and wines were available:
Les Pouches. Chenin Blanc.
Calarius. Orange Puglia.
Cantina Furlani. Rosso Negrik.
Sete. Niero Buono.
Stevens Winery. 424.
Heater Allen / Modern Times. Rauch Tentbier.
Wayfinder. Czech Pilsner.
Art + Science. Symbiosis Cider/Wine Hybrid.
Doors are now open with hours starting Wednesday - Friday from 3 pm to 10 pm, and Saturday - Sunday from 12 pm to 10 pm. For more information, including their social media accounts and other news, visit http://bit.ly/2RmbKP7. Fair Isle Brewing is located at 936 NW 49th Street in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.

Tipping the Velvet
Tumblr media
First aired: 09 October 2002 – 23 October 2002
Number of episodes: 3
Length: ~ 1 h per episode
Genre: Drama, Romance
Language: English
Director: Geoffrey Sax
Script: Andrew Davies
Starring: Rachael Stirling, Keeley Hawes, Anna Chancellor, Jodhi May, John Bowe, Sally Hawkins, Alexei Sayle
Story: Tipping the Velvet, based on Sarah Waters’ book of the same name, tells the story of Nan Astley (Rachael Stirling), a young woman from Kent, who falls in love with the singer Kitty Butler (Keeley Hawes) and follows her to London. There, Kitty breaks her heart and Nan tries to find a new home, first as a sex slave to Diana Lethaby (Anna Chancellor), later as a housekeeper to Florence Banner (Jodhi May).
Pros:
BBC miniseries: Tipping the Velvet is a BBC miniseries consisting of three episodes, like so many famous series of the same format, most famously adaptions of Jane Austen novels. It is quite similar to the three-hour long versions of Price and Prejudice or Emma, but it’s about sapphic women. Growing up loving those Jane Austen adaptions, I also fell in love with Tipping the Velvet immediately. This three-part structure also works perfectly for this story since the novel also is structured into three parts. It’s also nice to watch a BBC miniseries which is not about the upper class, but working-class people, as is the case with this story.
Internalised homophobia (sort of): One part of the story is concerned with Nan trying to find out who she is. When the story starts, she is dating Freddy (Benedict Cumberbatch), a young man from her village. However, she doesn’t feel any attraction towards him and only does what is expected of her. She thinks there is something wrong with her for not loving Freddy. Later, she realises she has the feelings she is supposed to be having for men for a woman and accepts this as something completely normal almost right away. It becomes clear that she never even considered being in love with a woman was possible, but once she learns that, she only wants to be around people who accept her. She also doesn’t see any difference between Freddy’s attraction to her and her attraction to Kitty, thinking if these feelings are similar then she has to be normal, even though she feels them for a woman.
Gender is a construct: The book puts a lot of emphasis on the fact that gender is constructed by society and works this into the story. This is also done in the miniseries, and this transfer from book to TV works well because you can see people’s looks and clothes instead of just reading about them.
Faithful to the book: The miniseries takes its time (it’s three hours long in total), so it’s also really faithful to the book; there aren’t any major cuts or changes. The ending is a bit different than it is in the book, the finale is set in a theatre instead of in a tent and Nan returns home to introduce Florence to her family, but apart from that the miniseries almost tells the exact same story. They even kept parts which could have been controversial: The most important sex scenes are shown, including Diana Lethaby’s dildo.
Three separate love stories: Due to the structure of the book, the miniseries consists of three different love stories. Nan is shown falling in love with Kitty, then being sucked into the world of Diana Lethaby, and finally discovering her feelings for Florence. This way you get three different love stories for the price of one.
Domestic lesbians: If you watch the miniseries for nothing else, watch it for the third episode, in which Nan works as Florence’s housekeeper before falling in love with her. Then Nan is happy with a simple life, raising a child together with Florence and her brother Ralph (Hugh Bonneville), settling for a life full of domestic bliss.
Cons:
Artsy miniseries: Even though Tipping the Velvet is quite similar to other (straight) BBC miniseries, there is one major difference: It’s much more artsy and over-the-top. For example, there are lots of images insinuating sex, like a shot of Nan having oral sex with a man intercut by a close-up of a horse having a carrot inserted into its mouth and biting it. There is nothing wrong with taking a more artsy approach to the subject, but it can be off-putting if you were expecting a classical, conservative BBC miniseries.
Self-pity: Especially during the second episode, Nan suffers from self-pity, often saying she belongs in the gutter or that her life is very horrible, and she is very unhappy. Even though this is done to keep the audience feeling for Nan, it gets a bit annoying after some time because Nan moans about her life but never does anything to change it.
Homophobia: 3/10 – There are some instances of homophobia in this miniseries, mostly during the first episode. Nan’s sister Alice (Monica Dolan) warns her from getting to close to Kitty because she thinks that people like her aren’t normal. When Nan confesses to her she is in love with Kitty, Alice calls Nan disgusting and her life dirty. Kitty and Nan’s manager Walter Bliss (John Bowe) says that their relationship cannot be real because two women can’t have sex with each other – you always need a man for that. In the third episode, Nan and Florence are verbally assaulted in front of a pub, but Nan fights back.
Violence: 0/10 – There is no (physical) violence against characters because of their sexual orientation.
Ending: In the end, Nan has to decide between Florence and Kitty and chooses Florence. They lead a life of domestic bliss, raising a child together. The final scene shows them getting ready to meet Nan’s parents.
Sexual orientation: The story mostly focuses on Nan discovering that she is a lesbian. Bisexuality is mentioned and Kitty can be read as either bisexual or suffering from internalised homophobia (at least she chooses Walter over Nan). Florence is also a lesbian because she never even so much as mentions men.

Estrenos de series
Back (Channel 4)
Comedia creada por Simon Blackwell (The Thick Of It, Veep, Peep Show). Seis episodios. Estreno: 6 de septiembre
A favor: Volver a ver juntos a los protagonistas de Peep Show.
En contra: Una trama tan básica.
youtube
Tin Star (Sky Atlantic)
Completan el reparto Christopher Heyerdahl (Hell on Wheels), Genevieve O'Reilly (Episodes, The Honourable Woman), Abigail Lawrie (The Casual Vacancy), Oliver Coopersmith (Dickensian), Stephen Walters (Outlander), Ian Puleston-Davies (Coronation Street), Roark Critchlow (Pretty Little Liars), Sarah Podemski (Cashing In) y Kevin Hanchard (Orphan Black). Creada por Rowan Joffé (28 Weeks Later, Before I Go to Sleep). Diez episodios.
youtube
The Deuce (HBO)
Drama sobre el auge del porno en Nueva York durante los setenta y ochenta desde el punto de vista de los gemelos Martino (James Franco; 11.22.63, Milk), dueños de un club nocturno; la estudiante universitaria Abigail "Abby" Parker (Margarita Levieva; Revenge, The Blacklist), la prostituta de Times Square Eileen Merrell (Maggie Gyllenhaal; The Honourable Woman, The Dark Knight), un chulo llamado Larry Brown (Gbenga Akinnagbe; The Following, The Good Wife), el cuñado de los gemelos Martino (Chris Bauer; True Blood, Survivor's Remorse) o un camarero llamado Paul Hendrickson (Chris Coy; Banshee, Treme). Creada por David Simon (The Wire, Treme) y George Pelecanos (The Wire, Treme). Ocho episodios.
Y no.
youtube
The Orville (FOX)
También participan Adrianne Palicki (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Friday Night Lights), Scott Grimes (Band of Brothers, American Dad), Halston Sage (Crisis, Paper Towns), Penny Johnson Jerald (Castle, The Larry Sanders Show), Mark Jackson, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead, The Wire) y Larry Joe Campbell (According to Jim).
youtube
Strike - The Silkworm (BBC One)
Completan el cast Rosalind Eleazar (Harlots, National Treasure), Paterson Joseph (Timeless, The Leftovers), Paul Rhys (Being Human, Da Vinci's Demons), Michael Shaeffer (Black Mirror, Rogue One) y Lærke Winther (Dicte).
Completan el reparto Zoë Tapper, Warren Brown (Luther), Richie Campbell (The Frankenstein Chronicles) y Shelley Conn (The Lottery, Mistresses UK).
youtube
American Vandal (Netflix)
Una gamberrada muy cara en un instituto (penes pintados en veintisiete coches) lleva a un documentalista de segundo (Tyler Alvarez, Orange Is the New Black) a investigar la controvertida y probablemente injusta expulsión de un estudiante de último curso. Completan el reparto Griffin Gluck (Private Practice, Red Band Society), Jimmy Tatro (22 Jump Street), Camille Hyde, Eduardo Franco (Adam Ruins Everything), Lukas Gage (T@gged), Jessica Juarez, Lou Wilson (The Guest Book), Camille Ramsey, Calum Worthy (Austin & Ally) y G. Hannelius (Dog with a Blog). Sátira creada por Tony Yacenda (Pillow Talking) y Dan Perrault (Honest Trailers) y escrita por Dan Lagana (Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous). Ocho episodios.
youtube
Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All Access)
Protagonizan Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead, The Good Wife), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, The OA), James Frain (Orphan Black, Gotham), Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Memoirs of a Geisha), Rainn Wilson (The Office, Six Feet Under), Doug Jones (The Neighbors, The Strain), Anthony Rapp (Rent, A Beautiful Mind), Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful), Maulik Pancholy (30 Rock, Weeds), Terry Serpico (Sneaky Pete, Army Wives), Sam Vartholomeos (The Following), Mary Wiseman, Chris Obi y Mary Chieffo.
A favor: Narración serializada.
Completan el reparto Zachary Levi (Chuck, Heroes Reborn), David Cronenberg (Jason X, Resurrection) y Rebecca Liddiard (Between, Houdini and Doyle). Mary Harron (American Psycho) dirigirá la adaptación de Sarah Polley (Away from Her).
Por supuesto, escribe y produce Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Mom, Two and a Half Men, Disjointed). Jon Favreau (Iron Man) dirige el primer episodio.
youtube
Me, Myself & I (CBS)
Escribe Dan Kopelman (Galavant) y produce Aaron Kaplan (Divorce, The Neighbors). Jack Dylan Grazer (It), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live) y John Larroquette (Night Court, The John Larroquette Show) interpretan a Alex. Les acompañan Brian Unger (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Christopher Paul Richards (Billions), Sharon Lawrence (Shameless), Jaleel White (Family Matters), Kelen Coleman (Big Little Lies, The Newsroom), Mandell Maughan (Bajillion Dollar Propertie$), Ed Begley Jr. (Blunt Talk, Better Call Saul), Tia Mowry (Sister, Sister), Skylar Gray (Married) y Reylynn Caster. Estreno: 25 de septiembre
A favor: Ojo, no es multicámara. Con nombres interesantes y sin risas enlatadas.
En contra: Todavía nos suena This Is Us.
The Brave (NBC)
Protagonizada por Mike Vogel (Under the Dome, Bates Motel), Anne Heche (Hung, Aftermath), Sofia Pernas (Jane the Virgin), Tate Ellington (Quantico, Shameless), Demetrius Grosse (Westworld, Banshee), Noah Mills (Sex and the City 2), Natacha Karam y Hadi Tabbal.
youtube
The Good Doctor (ABC)
Protagonizan también Antonia Thomas (Misfits), Nicholas Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars), Chuku Modu (Game of Thrones), Beau Garrett (Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce), Hill Harper (CSI: New York, Homeland), Richard Schiff (The West Wing, Ballers) y Tamlyn Tomita (Teen Wolf, Berlin Station).
youtube
Law & Order: True Crime - The Menendez Murders (NBC)
Protagonizan David Boreanaz (Bones, Buffy), Jessica Paré (Mad Men) y Max Thieriot (Bates Motel). Ed Redlich (Without a Trace) es el showrunner. Estreno: 27 de septiembre
A favor: ¿Algo de acción?
En contra: Como Six pero seguramente peor.
youtube
Missions (Shudder)
Protagonizan Jean-Toussaint Bernard (The Tunnel), Vincent Londez (Ennemi public), Giorgia Sinicorni (I Cesaroni), Arben Bajraktaraj (Harry Potter, Taken), Adrianna Gradziel, Come Levin, Mathias Mlekuz, Clément Aubert y Hélène Viviès. Diez episodios.
Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones, Misfits), Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels), Serinda Swan (Graceland), Ken Leung (Lost, The Night Shift), Eme Ikwuakor (Extant), Isabelle Cornish (Puberty Blues), Mike Moh (Empire) y Sonya Balmores (Soul Surfer) serán Maximus, Black Bolt, Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Crystal, Triton y Auran. Ocho episodios.
