Was wondering what your thoughts were on the Gotchard ep 28? And the part where the phony exorcist explains his backstory?
I think it was a fun little breather episode after how heavy the last arc was. I honestly thought it was funny, everyone's scared faces wass just perfection, and Rinne laughing through it all was just too cute. And Renge's grandma was just endearing.
Also Hopper-1 was so cute... I think this episode really made me appreciate the fact that Hopper-1 is an actual physical puppet rather than just a purely CGI monstrosity, and is seemingly operated by Junsei Motojima (Houtaro's actor) for a good chunk of its screentime. There's a bit during the scene in the Academy where Houtaro was holding Hopper-1 and its little legs were wiggling, and I wonder if there was a little lever somewhere underneath that Junsei can pull to make it do that. I noticed that one of his hands wasn't visible in the shot, which is why I thought that.
(Or maybe it's remote-controlled off-screen, which is okay too I guess, but I like my theory better.)
It also makes stuff like the scene where Hopper-1 was dragging Houtaro around even better because all that physical comedy came from the actor himself.
As for that phony exorcist guy... I just found how over-the-top and obviously fake he was hilarious. That this random dude managed to somehow attract several Cosmic Chemmies is just so weird lmao
Anyway I love Gotchard, I haven't enjoyed a Rider show this much since Saber I love it with everything

Something I really like about Gotchard's MOTW designs is their henshin including a motion for their own arms and them then usually keeping that position while in monster form while they're also getting extra fighting arms. Efficient~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from ep 1 and 4) It makes for comparatively simple but cool designs, especially when they don't just do the crossed arms and stay like that but their forms can still use their arms or the gesture adds to the chara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from ep 6 and 8)
6 was really fun with how the arms were still usable
Tumblr media
8 was fun in how the gesture was adding so much to the fight scene, Lachesis just casually blocking Spanner's attacks here

i am FINALLY watching gotchard ep 1 subbed just before the second ep rolls around. seeing the switching between cgi hopper and physical prop hopper reminds me of how they did luna the cat in the 2003 sailor moon toku. except with much better cgi obviously

might start watching recent toku soon
i might start watching gotchard once the semester is over. by then at least 1/4 of it will be out, and i feel like that’s a decent amount of time to determine whether i’d continue watching or not.
i honestly don’t know if i’ll like it. i’m trying not to go into it with high expectations like i have in series past cause i don’t want to be disappointed again.
i will say (from what i’ve seen), i’m glad not everyone is a rider (yet…), that’s kind of been a pet peeve of mine for awhile (it’s complicated lol). and its episodes seem to be a similar format to wizard/drive (i don’t know how to describe it)
part of me also wants to watch donbrothers cause i still don’t believe that happened (/hj), and i didn’t necessarily dislike what i saw from it. so maybe i’ll get around to doing that in my month off.
i wish i could pay someone to wipe my memory of revice and geats, so i could rewatch those without any prejudgment. like even though i forgot about most of revice past ep. 9/10, just knowing some of the things that happen still make me mad (?) and the other one… well i think it’ll be a long time until i can touch that one again. (i’m still waiting for that summer movie though 😣)
i guess i’m just trying to get into more recent things. i see them all the time one here and twt so it’s hard to just ignore them 😅

How many episodes do you think we are getting in total for Geats?
So! I invite you to a fucking journey with me anon because I had been thinking about this for WEEKS
I had been COUNTING. Keep in mind, this is only IF there are no weeks skipped. (I did not check holidays if there would be any weeks skipped.)
So. Here goes.
Option 1 I consered: 45
Ex-Aid and Zero One were both 45 episodes (yes, I know about why in Zero One's case, don't get into my inbox about it. Still a funny thing)
If it's 45 episodes, and no weeks are skipped, 07.23 would be the last episode of Geats.
07.28. is the airing date for the movie that we know. It could always be Post-Canon movie, with Takahashi
But - I genuinely don't think we can wrap everything we need to wrap up (even if we'd want to leave a few open threads for future installments) in just 9 more episodes especially with the amount of new forms we still know are coming
Also this would mean that 07.30 would be the premiere for Gotchard which... I really do not think so
Option 2 I consider: Anywhere between 46-50
In this case ep 46 would be 07.30; ep 47 would be 08.06, ep 48 would be 06.13, ep 49 would be 08.20, ep 50 would be 08.27
definitely more room to tie up those loose ends
10-14 more episodes...
I don't think we get a full 50, 48-49 is where I am leaning towards more, honestly
In that case, Gotchard would start end of August, which feels way more likely to me
I wonder if the final episode will be a standalone too just like we had Dawn F in the beginning, we might get Twilight F in the end or something. Or Twilight O because it's a standalone. Or Twilight I because new beginnings I guess.

Some final thoughts on Geats
Nothing too specific though because honestly I don't have much to say anymore :p
Because I was out of town last week, I actually watched the final two episodes back to back. I thought they were quite well done, I enjoyed both eps a lot
Daichi showing up with the Jyamato to back Win... ok that's a thing I guess...
I did get spoiled for the scene where Ace supposedly gets killed by "Tsumuri", and yeah I never believed for a second it was our Tsumuri
Ace turning into a god though... well, I guess they foreshadowed it enough but for I kinda also wish they didn't do it -_- Idk, something about it bugged me
Loved the fight scene with the four riders. Geats never fails to impress with its fight choreography. I almost thought it was a Kamihoriuchi episode because his stuff never let me down
Last season we ended with one main Rider being forgotten (Vice) by his partner... and now it's Ace's turn... ironic considering Ace was the one who restored Ikki's memories of Vice
Btw, using the crossover theme song as an ED? Nice touch. I don't think that's ever been done before
Everyone's wishes... even Daichi's was kinda nice I guess
Neon, my dear neko, please consider a tanuki knight instead of a lion jerk who disappeared for 10 episodes and barely interacted with you in a nice way
(Seriously if they end up together I'll throw hands)
HOPPER-1 MY BELOVED! I ADORE YOU ALREADY!
I guess we're gonna get a handoff scene every year now? We had Saber -> Revice, Revice -> Geats and now Geats -> Gotchard... poor Aruto was the only Reiwa Rider not to get a handoff with his kouhai lol
Overall, I liked Geats, though it did go downhill for me as the show went on. It was... good, but not that great.
It started out really strong, with a lot of great action and good chemistry between the leads... but I had serious problems with how it handled certain characters (Keiwa in particular) during the final third of the show which affected my overall enjoyment. I also thought most of the redemption arcs for were either poorly done (like the Kurama parents) or were simply unjustified for the character in question (Daichi). It was even worse than Revice imo.
And this was the first time where the fandom wank actually affected my enjoyment of the show. Normally I don't get affected by such things but something about this show brought out a nasty side of the fandom that I felt was just too much. The Keiwa haters and Azuma apologists in particular were some of the nastiest people I've ever come across.
This is probably the first season where I'm actually relieved it's over? Like... I don't hate it, but I won't miss it either. I don't actually know if I'll watch the V-Cinema when it comes out (I'll watch the summer movie for sure though)
Anyways. Onwards to Gotchard~

✨ ooh monthly update post get excited! ✨
Tumblr media
i promise i have been making gifs. i have one (maybe 2 if i get around to it) posts for chinese/lunar new year. and i'm working on posts for my event (please consider participating!)
not only that i have a couple geats, kiva, and a couple of misc. sets (from a while ago) i should post. those will probably be posted after the 14th.
i'm not sure whether i will be giffing boonboomger. i am genuinely interested in it (more than i have a lot of past recent releases). i just don't want another geatsvice situation where i get super hyped pre-release and let down 1/4 of the way through. hell, i haven't even watched a single ep of gotchard.
the reason i haven't really been posting is because i've been busy with school. i don't even know why i i'm here really :/
i updated my desktop blog ("website"), if you go there, you'll get a sneak peak for the events i'm planning for march and april!
for a series i claim to not particularly like, i do make a lot of geats gifs. even without the win series, i think geats would be like.. a top 3 series gif wise.

Ngl, Gotchard so far just might potentially be the first Reiwa rider season to have it's potential secondary rider make it's first debut the latest, surpass Revice to a lesser extent. (Daiji became Live later than Evil but even then Evil debut earlier on) Considering in most recent times the secondary rider often makes his debut pretty early like the second episode or so.
The last time we have a secondary rider debut pretty late (as in like the mid-late teens or so) like the earlier Neo-Heisei seasons and some later early Heisei seasons was Kamen Rider Beast from Kamen Rider Wizard...approximately like 10-11 years ago!
Or maybe they're trying to break the status quo of the rider classifications? (like how they don't outright call Neon/Naago a tertiary rider) Hmm...then again, that's just speculation. But even if we pretend that speculation turns out to be true, (it probably won't because maybe marketing reasons and then again the show is still going and again, the secondary rider can still make their debut in the mid-late teens like we got a decade ago) I would sort of respect them for trying to make new changes for this new era of Kamen Rider... (whether it's for better or for worse is an entirely different matter) At the same time, I have to admit it won't exactly feel the same not exactly having an official secondary rider again as that's pretty much been a staple since Agito... (Then again, it's highly highly unlikely we get a show like Kuuga again where the main rider is the only rider in the show. It's theoretical possible and manageable, don't get me wrong but I can't deny it's still improbable by this point in this)
So yeah, my speculations for potential possibilities for why the secondary rider is making it's debut later than we expected...is either: - One, they try to replicate the secondary debut element that we have gotten back in later Phase 1 Heisei seasons to early Neo-Heisei seasons - Two, they're trying to, at least partially break the status quo of rider classifications and trying something new or replace with a new status quo of classifications Which one of the two is more likely than the other, who knows? But hey, maybe there's a third possibility/theory or more I might be missing... now let's hear your two cents in all this, Ms. Kari.
Daiji debuted as Live in ep 10, so yeah, Gotchard already holds the record for the latest debut of an official secondary Rider as far as Reiwa is concerned. Kagerou debuted in ep 5. Everyone else (Isamu, Rintaro and Keiwa) debuted in ep 2.
If I’d hazard a guess, the writers of Gotchard are taking a lot of cues from the W-OOO-Fourze era of Kamen Rider, with the (relatively) lighter tone, more episodic plots, etc. This may include scaling back on the number of Riders in the series and spacing out their debuts more. Honestly, I kinda prefer this setup more, because sometimes it does feel like half the cast is just there to be fodder in fights or something.
As far as Rider classifications go, I don’t think they’ll push so far as to be rid of the secondary rider altogether. I can see them discarding the other designations but the secondary rider has been around way too long and and is too important from a narrative perspective (e.g. a rival or foil for the main rider). I mean, some Showa Riders are technically secondaries despite being part of the “main rider” roster because they’re not even the title rider of their series (e.g. Nigou, Riderman).
Yeah, they’re not getting rid of the secondary I think.
