Une propriété de conte de Fées présentée par le magazine New Yorkais, Curbed When Sumner Freeman bought this 1960s A-frame house in Fire Island Pines in 1980, the property it sat on was so obscured by poison ivy, catbrier, and Virginia creeper that he couldn’t even see it, and yet it called to him. “It was charming, and I could see the possibilities, and it suited me,” Freeman says. In the 1990s, he bought the house next door and then, in the aughts, with his partner Roy Yeager, added a third. They rent out all but the A-frame, but they had room to expand the garden – with ponds and low bridges inspired by Monet’s garden at Giverny. It’s a short walk to the beach; when you come upon it, it feels like another world. je suis heureuse d'avoir découvert dans le magazine @curbed, l'appartement de l'artiste Sculpteur et Céramiste Simone Bodmer Turner, un véritable studio à sa mesure rempli d'oeuvres, les siennes mais aussi d'amis artistes et designers #Repost @curbed "It’s the first time that I’ve lived by myself, and it was fun to be actually making all the choices of what was in the space,” says the sculptor and ceramicist @simonebodmerturner of her garden-level Bedford-Stuyvesant rental. She had originally moved in here with an ex. After they broke up, she took her time reimagining the apartment with her own things, including her rescue dog Mort. Now, the furniture and art are mostly from artist and designer friends, “I wanted to slowly bring in pieces as I could afford them.” . This year, in her first solo show at Matter Projects, which ran from February through April, she exhibited 25 pieces, many of them quite large, that included furniture and lighting. “I built my studio around a design line I called the Permanent Collection” — which she describes as a “seasonless line of ceramic vases that draw on ancient ceremonial vessels and modern shapes” of architecture and design — “that is my bread-and-butter group of vessels.” Head to the link in our bio to read the latest #GreatRooms from @Dhwendygoodman.
