#he’s a dhampir paladin and is struggling

Today was another great session. Only con of the session was that Faeryl/her player did not have time si we played without her.
We stepped out of the magic fog and first thing Astarion tried to do was to open the chest with money and take it. It did not work.
Then we came upon a three way for in road. Astarion kicked one of the adventurers to determine where to go by the way they will stumble into. In the end they went right first.
Three little cottages lied before them. Every player went into one of them each (plus one that stayed outside). What ensued was a fight with shadowy beings resistant to physical damage. Astarion survived without scratch.
We came back to the fork and chose the left path.
On the meadow we came to was a small shed. After a bit of struggle we opened it and found a dead person with a shovel.
Our tabaxi druid smelled something funky in the center of the meadow so paladin dug a hole there.
It was a grave. He opened the coffin and thought right after that I shouldn't do this it's disrespectful. Cleric and tabaxi found some info through investigating the mummified corpse. Then Astarion came down and checked it for valuables. After that cleric said that the body should be wrapped back in the bandages and buried.
He insisted that Astarion should wrap it as he was the one that unwrapped it when checking it. Argument ensued where both sides were adamant about their stance but Astarion prevailed at the end.
Back to the fork and centre path it is. A small fight ensues where Astarion sucks a hog dry in first turn. Now they know he is dhampir.
Cleric through his mind powers talked to Astarion as if he was some divine entity that disliked Astarion's interaction with the mummy. But Astarion quickly found out that it was him and berated him.
Long rest was needed so they camped and agreed on a guard duty. Astarion had nothing interesting to steal when he guarded the camp but when cleric was guarding he fell asleep and something stole his gold.
Next day we came to a some kind of underground hiding place. We managed to get into it and met some player character from the campaign before this one. Lots of talking mainly from Astarion as nobody else wanted to roleplay so much as me. We found out about our main quest and some side activities.
That was all, a very fun and productive session.

im New in Town but for ALL of your commanders, what paths did they take (and why); if they have a fixed team, what was it; what were their thoughts on galfrey; 5 moments in their run that define their character to you; who did they romance? (i know a lot of these for valerius but I'm curious about others!)
I only have Valerius for Wrath - generally speaking I don't tend to have more than one protagonist for each game because I always struggle to keep my attention on more than one and the playthroughs are so long that I think if I tried to have multiples, I'd burn out. The other Pathfinder kiddos are Leonelle, my MC for Owlcat's Kingmaker, and Luminița, who I play in a 2e game, but at least for Leonelle I can answer a couple of these.
Valerius (Wrath of the Righteous):
Lich -> Legend. Honestly wouldn't recommend Lich to anyone because it's so removed from the story and very mechanically underwhelming (on my first run at least, Valerius was an Inquisitor of Urgathoa but he couldn't merge his spellbook with the Lich one when he absolutely should have been able to considering Urgathoa is the mythic path's signature deity) but unfortunately it is the most in-character and flavourful option for Valerius as an Urgathoan dhampir, and I like the transition over to Legend. Legend happens as a result of three things:
What Zacharius is asking him to give up is...tricky. The lich demanded asceticism from him while on the path, but that is anathema to how Urgathoans approach that path - they're meant to make the most of their lives before they greet their ashenmorn. Valerius realises that he is not quite ready to give up being mortal; he is a dhampir with a very long lifespan ahead of him and with a different avenue to undeath being open to him in the form of his Moroi father.
Learning that his mythic power is not Urgathoa's Divine Blessing for a deed well done and a successful Reaping under the guise of the crusade nearly breaks his faith, and he doesn't want to believe it now even if he still can.
The thought of sacrificing Camellia unnerves him more than he wants to admit, and that forces him to confront the fact he is falling in love with the person he is closest to within the crusade. He doesn't want to admit it, given their relationship is complicated at this point in time, but it ends up being the proverbial nail in the coffin that has him swearing to look for a way out of this bargain with Zacharius.
Him choosing to become a Legend is not without cost. A lot of the followers he had in act 3 are now gone, save for a few Urgathoans who believe that they can 'save' Valerius from his foolishness - including Elyanka, the Whispering Way advisor, and his divine spells are now gone, and as a result he spends a lot of act 5 trying to regain his Goddess' favour - usually through sacrifices in her name. Most notably - Galfrey (RIP), Horgus and the Gwerm household servants - and generally being far more aggressive than diplomatic. He is desperate to get back into her favour, and he eventually does, but it takes a long time and a lot of blood to get there.
Galfrey's death was regrettable - he was too full of desperation, wounded pride and anger to let that opportunity to pass him by; Valerius had also seen what had happened since he'd been striped of command. The crusades couldn't afford to be divided. The official reports say Galfrey was killed in action, and those present at the time would not say anything different (Camellia and Greybor, certainly not.) Still - Galfrey was someone he'd wished he had had a better relationship with, but I imagine any good will between them was unlikely - she's a Paladin after all. She could sense his rancid vibes from a mile away.
His team has a core four, then a rotating slots for an archer. The 'core' of the party are Camellia, Nenio, Sosiel and Greybor, while Delamere/Wenduag/evil!Arueshalae take the archer slot depending on the act.
The five moments that probably defined his run: making the bargain with Zacharius at the Lost Chapel, allowing Camellia to continue her sacrifices (it is a surprise tool that will help him later), being captured in the Battlebliss, rejecting his mythic power and beating back Deskari and committing regicide at Iz. The latter made him feel near godlike, and it also set the stage for his post-game ambitions.
Romance-wise, well - he romanced Camellia canonically. She was just such a natural choice for him and I will never not find it delightful that I found the perfect option for him on my first, blind run. But his act 3 was an absolute mess romantically - at one point he had four romances active - Camellia (intentional), Wenduag (somewhat intentional), Sosiel (kinda intentional? I was toying around with it for a little bit) and Daeran (absolutely not intentional.) He shut down Daeran incredibly hard when there were suddenly roses everywhere - he found it quite embarrassing, actually, and it wasn't like Valerius had ever expressed any interest in him. Sosiel's was unintentional to an extent, but I kinda wanted to see how it meshed with him, even if it didn't commit - I like to think that Sosiel definitely had some rose-tinted glasses on in acts 2 and 3, and slowly came to realise with horror that this handsome (dark) knight in shining armour is not who he thought he was, and Valerius was...somewhat relishing the potential of corrupting a Shelynite priest. As for Wenduag - well, they hooked up a lot in act 3, but Wenduag found herself falling out of favour with him -- and also starting bar fights -- when Camellia got him wrapped around her little finger.
If there is one thing Valerius doesn't like when 'courting', it's showy displays of affection or open bragging. Wenduag, Sosiel and Daeran all did something like this (Wendu bragging that she wouldn't get punished because of how close she was to him; Sosiel's attempted gesture with the orchestra; Daeran's roses), while Camellia wished to keep things private and uncomplicated. Of course, with Camellia, it became very complicated further down the line...
Leonelle (Pathfinder: Kingmaker)
Her team is not as fixed as Valerius', aside from having Jaethal and Kanerah, but usually Regongar, Harrim and Nok-Nok make up the party.
I'm between Troll Trouble and Season of the Bloom on her run right now, so I'm not sure there's any defining moments for her just yet.
She is in an open relationship with Kanerah and Jaethal; Kanerah is her canon romance and future queen-consort, while post-game, Jaethal is her mistress. All involved are aware of the arrangement - there's a document outlining it even (tfw two of you are devil-blooded and the other is a Kyoni ex-judge) - and both Kanerah and Jaethal are allowed to pursue any fancies of theirs outside of their relationship with Leonelle.

D&D Character Profiles: Curse of Strahd
In the mists of the far-off Barovia, evil is lurking. It's up to Aveline's Devils to help break Barovia free from the curse of its undead countess.
All artwork/models are created with HeroForge.
Dimeia, 22 (she/her)
Tiefling || Criminal || Mastermind Rogue || Chaotic Neutral || My PC
Tumblr media
The bastard child of a noblewoman, Dimeia's life has been punctuated mostly by strife. She fled her home at only 8-years-old with her younger brother Morron (now known as Ignominy/Iggy) after her mother burned her and her father allowed it to happen. She set off for Barovia with her brother hoping to escape her past but found herself caught off guard in a storm. The two sought shelter in a windmill when the women there revealed themselves to be hags. Dimeia was chained in the attic and her brother was sold to Countess Strahdyana. She was eventually found and rescued by the rest of the party and ultimately was able to reunite with her brother. With a strong taste for alcohol and a tongue as sharp as her shortsword, she often finds herself on the wrong side of arguments she didn't need to be involved with in the first place. She has currently abandoned her party and her whereabouts are unknown.
Cedrick Kostner, 40 (he/him)
Human || Sage || Arillerist Artificer || Chaotic Good || My (Temporary) PC
Tumblr media
Originally born in Vallaki, Cedrick has always had a passion for learning, invention, and exploration. He found himself often turning to books as a form of escape and tries to learn everything he can. At 18, he moved to Krezk hoping to establish himself as an artisan of his craft. There he met his now-wife, Prudence. She runs her own bakery while Cedrick continues working on his various projects with their 10-year-old daughter Ari. He recently embarked on a journey with Aveline's Devils hoping to help restore Krezk's food supply after an attack from the werewolf den.
Lucy Flourea, mid-20's (they/them)
Tiefling || Warlock/Bard || Chaotic Good
Tumblr media
The child of two human Vistani, Lucy has had a rather pleasant life. Their caravan never treated them differently for their Infernal heritage and they were embraced for who they were. While they are the biggest ray of sunshine in the group, the tolls of adventuring in Barovia have put serious strain on their mental health. They are currently taking some time away from the party to recuperate in Vallaki with their family.
Creed, unknown (he/him)
Revenant || Fighter
Tumblr media
Creed was previously an elite group of mercenaries known as The Marauders until his adventuring companions turned traitor. They murdered both himself and his wife and kidnapped his daughter, Hamnah. Such betrayal was able to bring him back from death. Creed has since spent his time chasing his old party all the way to Barovia. He is currently working with Aveline's Devils to bring the group down and rescue his daughter from the werewolf den. While he may have abrasive tendencies, there seems to be a softer side of him buried deep down.
Aveline Stellocum, late 20's (she/her)
Aasimar || Noble || Paladin || Lawful Good
Tumblr media
Orphaned at a young age, Aveline grew up in a humble village with her younger brother Toka. It wasn't until she was a young adult that she learned the truth of her origins. She is the rightful ruler of Ulanthar, though she struggled to accept her prophecy at first. Through a mysterious set of circumstances she found herself in Barovia with the rest of the party. She is a down-to-Earth person with a fiercely strong sense of loyalty and swordsmanship skills.
Pandora Clairmont, unknown (she/her)
Dhampir || Noble || Twilight Cleric || @poetic-leigh-me
Tumblr media
The newest member of the party, Pandora is a meek and mild-mannered girl that was previously a member of the noble Clairmont family of Vallaki. She has no recollection of how she became a dhampir. What she does have is a box that causes mysterious and seemingly random things to occur.

Self and Partner from the relationship asks for Cinari? c:
hello!! thank you for asking about cin!!
Self: How is your OC's relationship with themselves? Does your OC like who they are? Is there anything about themselves that they would change?
kinda complicated. more complicated that she probably even registers.
her guardian, vaylin, taught her everything she knows and, as such, is very much why she grew up into such a giving, selfless person that was so willing to give herself up for the sake of others. as such, cinari found herself feeling as though she needed to be useful and help other people to have an value as a person. but vaylin was also a harsh teacher with high expectations that cinari never seemed able to meet. she always seemed to disappoint vaylin. especially when she decided to leave home to do the very thing that vaylin taught her to do. cinari always saw this as a failing on her own part and, despite evidence to the contrary, saw herself as a failure. it's not been until recently that she's considered that vaylin was at fault for her low self-esteem and saviour complex. but that's now left her in a weird spot where she thinks that vaylin was wrong in how she raised her and that she shouldn't have grown up feeling unloved. but she still struggles to feel worthy of the good things that happen to her. she's having a hard time unlearning what vaylin taught her despite knowing that she needs to unlearn it to grow as a person. she thinks she's a failure but part of her is almost screaming at herself to listen to the people telling that she is a good person because she knows, deep down, that they're right.
the thing that'll probably help her work through it all will be to return home and talk to vaylin (she's got other Shit she needs to yell at her about anyway) so, once strahd is dealt with and she's free to leave barovia, her plan is to do just that.
Partner: Does your OC currently have a partner? Multiple partners? How did they meet, and what is that relationship like?
she does! she has two partners; Cain Braun, a shifter paladin, and Durkel Glimmerbelly, a dragonborn bard.
i am gonna put the rest of my rambles for this one under the cut bc i have A Lot to say about these idiots (affectionate)
when cinari first arrived in barovia, she ran into durkel soon after. with neither having seen anyone else for a while since they started their respective journey's into barovia, decided to stick together at least for a little while, travelling to a nearby inn with asher, the other person they crossed paths with near the outskirts of the valley. at that inn, they met lillith, a dhampir that relied on her friend cain to remain safe and undetected by strahd. cain had gone missing and she needed help to find him. she asked cin, durkel and asher for their help in finding him, leading to the four of them staging a rescue. and that was the formation of most of the party, with them meeting eva, the final member of the gang the following day.
it took a while for romance to develop between the three of them. cinari is very oblivious to any romantic feelings that involve her so she didn't realise her developing feelings for either of them for a long time and was very blindsided by the suggestion that they liked her. cain is also pretty oblivious, mainly because he's not actually been in love before cin and durkel. and then by the time durkel was sure of his feelings, the fact that there was something going on between cin and cain was a pretty known quantity within the party and he didn't want to get in the way. but even before cin knew of her romantic feelings, she gravitated towards both of them pretty naturally. durkel's light-hearted, jokey demeanour was a comfort and he was also the only other non-barovian in the party so they were able to talk about the world outside the valley and bond over that somewhat. and cain has a similar sunny-disposition and inherent kindness to her. he also turned to her for advice and insight as discovered his own faith and began his steps towards becoming a paladin, since she herself is a cleric. these three made fast and easy friends.
cain fully realised how he felt after he made a really big sacrifice to save cinari from being turned into a vampire spawn by strahd. when talking to her about it, he blurted out that he loved her. cin asked for time but she did end up realising that she felt the same but also, now recognising what love felt like, that she felt that way about durkel as well. she at this point already suspected that durkel had feelings for cain so she started to hope for a polycule but struggled to know when was the right time to say anything. durkel ended up confessing his feelings for both of them when a puzzle required someone to reveal a secret. cin spoke with durkel about it, telling him that she felt the same and they agreed to speak with cain. and then she got captured by rahadin and taken to strahd in ravenloft so that was kinda put on hold until they saved her. during the time she was captive, though, cain and durkel talked. so by the time they saved her, they were a thing and so it was just a case of bringing cinari into that relationship once she was safe.
the three of them are very protective of one another which, isn't surprising from cinari; she has always based her whole identity and self-worth on her ability to save the people around her so it's no surprise that she'd do anything for the sake of her boyfriends. but they have also helped her learn to stop and take time for herself as well. before cain saved her from strahd, she didn't think she was worth such a sacrifice but the fact that he went to such lengths made her realise that maybe she was. and whilst obviously she didn't witness it, she's been told about how hell-bent durkel was to save her when she was captured (he was lashing out at people, refused to sleep, refused to wait for the others). and both of them have been very doting as she recovered from these events. through their actions, they've basically told her that she is worthy of love and it's okay for her to be the one that needs help sometimes. it's a lesson she's still learning but it's safe to say they've had a very positive impact on her life and sense of worth. the events of the last several sessions have been Very Rough emotionally and cinari has felt very, very low but she's found a lot of comfort in her relationship with cain and durkel and even just the simple knowledge that she is loved, something she hasn't felt in a very long time.
ask me about cinari!! (question list | askbox)

“I hate to be that person, but i like the manga better than the anime.
i didn't really enjoy this weeks episode. I thought it was a bit weird where they cut off the last episode with jeanne and vanitas and start the episode there. to me it felt a bit jarring, but whatever, its not that big of a deal. there were also a couple of scenes that were just wide shots of the library and the characters were small and u couldn't see them talking...maybe i'm being picky but i definitely noticed the production a lot more than previous episodes.
seeing astolfo's background was...interesting. it was interesting. i appreciated the anime-original information. You can see how astolfo struggles to uphold family values and is allowed to deviate from being a paladin, only for his choice to backfire really badly. however, i feel like it should've taken more than one child vampire to kill astolfo's whole family of paladins who've been hunting vampires for generations...I think there is still much for astolfo's character to explore.
one character i felt that was done dirty was dante. minor spoiler: dante's falshback and seeing how dhampir kind are treated and why he chooses to work with vanitas. we didn't get that in the anime and if its one thing im super curious about in the world of vanitas, its dhampirs. astolfo is a popular character so fine i understand why he gets more screen time, but... |:<this turned into a long rant...whoops“

Chelastian Campaign #5.b - Battle at Karloff’s
As the party rests, Tohmoh’s unseen servant reports that Sheriff Chaney is gathering a small army to rise up against the party under the charges of plotting to murder, assaulting an official, and treason. The party discovers an empty mine tunnel and plan on going up there, dealing with Chaney later.
Our returning PC’s are:
Sir John “Ducky” Mallard, level 3 Human Paladin who has sworn the Oath of the Ancients. Son of Duke Mallard, Ducky was sent to the Diamond Hills mercenary guild as a silencing tactic.
Tohmoh the Damarrion, level 3 Human Warlock with Cthulu as a patron. Joined the Diamond Hills mercenary guild as a way to gain power while helping others.
Marrow, level 3 dhampir Bard, as played by @the-pantsing-panda
Rohss, level 3 Half-Elf Ranger, guardian of the forest.
Aiyiri, level 3 Khajit Fighter with a two-weapon fighting style, former assassin.
Captain Voess, level 2 Half-Orc Barbarian, and pirate. Also member of the Diamond Hills mercenary guild.
Rorimac “Rori” Bracegirdle, level 2 Halfling rogue, and a member of the Dauntless of Silverstring City
Our Companions, who don’t feature in this game, are:
Fred, a devotee to the Mallard family who admires Ducky and most polishes armor
George, a more grumbly fellow who washes boots and sharpens swords, and has a fine word to say about being essentially a manservan
We are introduced to the PC for a player who also may not make it every game:
Ulfric Stormcloak, level 1 Dwarven fighter, smithy of Sapphire Lake Town.
Marrow and Rori appear from tunnel. Rori screams at Tohmoh, declaring him to be a cannibal warlock. The party out of character debates whether a human eating a halfling would be considered cannibalism, considering their different races. It was decided that if two creatures share skintypes and intelligence levels, it’s considered cannibalism. Therefore, a dragon can eat a salamander and it isn’t cannibalism, but a human cannot eat a halfling, dwarf, or elf without it technically counting as cannibalism.
Tohmoh then clears his name once Rori reveals his captor’s name had been Johmbo. Tohmoh isn’t surprised. His “grandpa” went crazy a long time ago, and the family had disowned him. Tohmoh was the only one to follow in Johmbo’s footsteps and unwittingly dedicated his life to the same god. As he begins to realize that his devotion might drive him just as mad as his grandfather, Tohmoh also decides to start being more selfless and make his legacy better.
We also, as a note, discover that Voess loves cats. In fact, as he realizes that Aiyiri is part feline, he slowly gets closer to her, wanting to “pet the kitty kitty.”
Voess: Voess love kitty kitty.
Rori lets the party know that Karloff has a place he calls home, and it’s located somewhere above them. He then begins leading the party to it.
- MEANWHILE -
Ulfric Stormborn, of the Sapphire Lake Town, has been exploring the mines. Although familiar with the local lore, he has always felt like the mines couldn’t be barren, and has spent a few days searching for any gems.
He stumbles into a large room that is encircled by the lake. On both sides of the cavern are waterfalls, which pour sixty feet down into a pool. The pool then continues on through the mountain. Although Ulfric is aware that he’s too far up for the lake to be pouring downwards, he doesn’t thinking too hard on the fact. There is a safety fence built out of rope and iron bars.
The room has a small alter in the corner, barrels of rotten fruit and vegetables, two large bookshelves with a collection of encyclopedia's and historical records from 100 years ago, and a large firepit in the center. Ulfric hears someone approaching and ducks behind the barrels, rolling an 18 to Stealth.
None of the party sees Ulfric as they enter. Ducky and Tohmoh go for the books, seemingly unimpressed by their perfect condition and collectors value. Voess goes for the fountain because it sparkles and books bore him. Marrow opens a few barrels to confirm that the food is rotten, which Aiyiri could smell before the lids came off and which overwhelmed her senses after.
Aiyiri stumbles to the side of the “room” and peers over the rope. She notices a small, pink lizard skittering around, slowly climbing up. As she warns the others, a purple lizard jumps up over the rope barrier, giggling.
The creature is described as a lizard that would stand 5 foot tall on it’s hind legs, with a distinctly dragon appearance if a dragon was drawn by someone who loved flowers. It’s wings more resembled a butterfly’s than a dragon’s, and it’s scales sparkled, like glitter.
It’s a faerie dragon, not that the party succeeds any of their Nature checks.
The party is hesitant to attack the creatures, aware of Karloff’s Charm and mind-control trickery. They decide to try and tame it. Ducky succeeds, offering the dragons food from his bag (the player was actually completely unaware of the Faerie Dragon, so this was delightful).
Another dragon appears, also purple in color, but more glittery, appearing pink in certain lights. Tohmoh tries to offer it food, but Ulfric ruins the moment by attacking, surprising everyone by his sudden appearance. Aiyiri tries to eat the dragon, and then argues with it about taking her food. It winds up casting a spell and making her give it the food it knows she’s hiding.
Marrow is hit by it’s purple, glittery gas and almost runs over the edge. Rori dives to hide in the firepit.
The battle ends as Tohmoh and Ducky calm the dragons down. One dragon offers safe passage, and the other promises answers. Before the party can claim their reward, Karloff appears. He stomps, and stamps, and, like a child throwing a tantrum, screams about them ruining his plans.
He Charms Voess, then tries to stand back and let the Half Orc do his damage. Ducky sees Voess entering a rage, and challenges him to a duel in order to protect the others.
Aiyiri doesn’t listen -- she strikes at Voess, missing her first attack and landing her second. Voess ignores Aiyiri and charges at Ducky. Ducky hits him hard, but he hits Ducky harder.
Ulfric and Tohmoh go after Karloff, both recognizing that he’s the real source of trouble and not Voess. Ulfric lands a powerful attack, and Tohmoh misses with an Eldritch blast.
Karloff attacks them with lightning, then starts running for the door. Marrow and Ulfric take opportunity attacks, weakening Karloff severely. Marrow then tries a spell, and fails.
Ducky and Voess swing at each other again, with Aiyiri deciding to take a step back.
Aiyiri: “I don’t care. This isn’t my fight.”
Ducky will remember that...
Anyway, Ducky hurts Voess again, but Voess rolls critical. He digs his axes into Ducky’s chest, cutting straight through his breastplate, and leaving Ducky struggling for life.
Tohmoh sees this and comes to his friend’s rescue. He jumps in and casts Dissonant Whispers, sending such pain into Voess that he flees. Ulfric then, not emotionally attached enough to be distracted by Voess, lands the killing blow against Karloff.
Karloff, dying: “I... failed?”
Rori appears with a potion of Cure Wounds to help Ducky, who also lays hands on himself (must be nice, being a paladin). With everything calming down, the party turn to the biggest surprise -- Ulfric. The Dwarf explains what he was doing up there, posing the question, at the same time: “Who owns the mine? They tell me you can’t. I want to.”
As he’s explaining, he spots some ruby and digs it out. He tucks it away into his pack, and the player, in the face of potential fortune, forgets that Ulfric intended to use it to prove the mines weren’t barren. Marrow collects the encyclopedias, because he understands the value of knowledge.
He still doesn’t read them, though...
The Dragons answer some questions. They reveal that Karloff was a doppelganger who had come into town shortly after the real Karloff. He had taken on Karloff’s identity and learned how to cast magic by reading Karloff’s journals. The real Karloff had met his fate at the hands of the basilisk, and was one of many statues residing in the bowels of the mine.
They also reveal that Rohss made it home safe, and the mountains are home to a tunnel into the Underworld that the Mages had been digging for reasons unknown to the dragons.
One of the dragons, named Cupcake, falls to Ducky’s natural 20 Animal Handling roll and joins them as a companion.
The party, with Voess helping Ducky, head back down. Ulfric uses the fact that Sheriff Chaney lost a bet during a card game to him in order to talk Chaney and his mob down from attacking the PC’s. There is also a debate triggered about whether or not Karloff really “owned” his cave, and if he did, does Ulfric now own it by law of battle.
Him and Chaney IC argue about it, while everyone else OOC argues about it. I’ve never seen property law become such a touchy subject in a D&D game before...
Oh, the party also explain to the mob that Karloff is dead, which helps to calm it down. They view Chaney as overreacting a bit, and disperse.
Chaney allows them to stay at the inn. After Chaney explains that Victor the innkeeper had been beheaded “for justice”, Ulfric decides he now owns the Seahorse. Chaney tells him he only needs to find the deed, as Victor had no next of kin, and Chaney doesn’t really care what happens to it.
Nobody seems disturbed by Chaney’s obvious lack of compassion, nor his overuse of the law in order to kill. One player has to leave to pick someone up from work, so the PC’s make their way to the inn, where they fall into a troubled sleep.
-End-

Is Sosiel really that poorly statted out in WOTR or is it a meme? I never really used him in hard combats.
I don't think it's terrible, but just poorly optimized, honestly. Depending on where you heard that (I’m going to assume Reddit, because they have the absolute worst takes) - that’s basically saying they’re trash when like....he could be Harrim. He at least has better domains than Harrim. Disclaimer: I don’t play on anything above normal, so I can’t say how effective this is on higher difficulties like core etc.
His stats are: STR 16 / DEX 10 / CON 14 / INT 10 / WIS 19  / CHA 14
Honestly the only stat that isn’t amazing there is his dexterity, considering Dexterity is used for AC bonus. I do think he should’ve started with 18 Wisdom and 13 Charisma to bump it up to 12 Dexterity just so he has a little of something - and in that case I would consider that a very solid starting stat array for when you get him. Remember you can find plenty of magical items that can boots your ability scores, so really, a 10 in Dex isn’t the end of the world. You don’t need to invest anymore in his STR really (unless you want him to be more melee foused) because of this. What I usually do is boost his DEX up to 12 and then put the rest of the ASI into WIS for those spell slots.
He’s also generally not as bad as people make him out to be: while he’s never going to compete with Daeran ‘Healbot’ Arendae in the raw healing output department, I never found myself struggling with healing with my party set-up. I made a couple of changes: firstly, I gave him the Boundless Healing mythic feat and the Impossible Domain mythic feat: specifically, Community. Excellent level 8 ability that’s great for longer fights and an instant heal at level 1 that you get to use 3+Wis Mod a day that does 1d6 + level in class. So for my Sosiel, that level 1 ability was available 8 times a day for 1d6 + 20 healing and it also removes fatigued, shaken and sickened. It’s like a mini Paladin’s Lay on Hands or Warpriest’s Fervor. Combine that with being to turn any prepared spell into the cure wounds spell of that level, his extra and selective channel, and he can make a very solid healer with the Good & Luck doamin buffs, cleric summoning spells and the typical buff options.
He worked for my party at least because I ran a very high AC/high HP/high self-sustain party with Valerius being a Judge/Armiger/Hellknight Legend (52AC, 700hp, can heal himself as a dhampir/Danse Macabre mythic hero), Camellia as a Cult Leader Warpriest (52AC, around 270hp) - both of them are selfish healers which suits their personalities quite well - Camellia would use positive fervor on herself as its a free action, while she used warpriest spells as self-buffs or to occasionally top up Vali on the off-chance he gets hit. I also ran Wenduag as a Divine Hound who could heal herself, and she was rarely taking damage anyway as an archer. Hard to do when you have a strong frontline. That meant I only had Sosiel to really worry about Regill and Nenio, and Nenio’s low hp isn’t a worry -- in theory, if Nenio is getting injured, then my tankline is doing something wrong or they’re getting through her Illusion buffs. Meanwhile, Regill is Regill - he’s a similar build to Vali (essentially has a modified version of the Armiger/Hellknight), can tank a lot and deal a lot of damage.
Sosiel might struggle with a lot of people being low - as I said, he can’t pump out the raw healing numbers like Daeran can - especially if they’re all squishy, but I use him as a “focus on buffs, protect the squishy wizard, top up everyone when they’re low” type and that worked quite effectively with both that Vavakia Vanguard and Areshkagal. And honestly, even if he wasn’t the best healer (again, he’s still better than Harrim), I’d still take him along anyway. That’s my best boy.
