9. Your favourite fanon.

Hi, hello, I'm gonna be humorous for a moment about this one. Because, well... if we're talking fanon, I want to be inclusive of as many different iterations of a character or situation as possible. So without further ado, I present my favorite ever fanon:

🔥 Teldryn Sero is a Bi Disaster🔥

Okay. Well this might be more just a popular HC rather than fanon, but it seems like a lot of iterations of Teldryn are, in fact, bi disasters. Some are well adjusted, or at least more well adjusted than others, so not -every- version is a disaster. But if they are also Nerevarine!Teldryns (my other favorite fanon/popular hc) the potential of becoming or behaving like a disaster is exponentially increased. This is fact lol I don't make The Rules. 🐐

Anyway, yes, I see the ships across the board and it looks like, to quote Topsy, everyone points to him and goes "that man is a bisexual" lol and idk it just works. I love reading all the different ships with him regardless of pairing and enjoy most of the content immensely. The representation is fantastic.

Shoutout once again to @changelingsandothernonsense for Danger!Josh who not only is a bi disaster, but causes ✨Bi Panic✨ during a lot of his misadventures. And also to @paraparadigm for her 'non-nectarine' Teldryn Sero, who not only is undeniably hot, but is, at points, a disaster (or at least leaning disastrous) and is unabashedly bi. And I love him for that. (: There is a lot more. A LOT. But these two are always at the top of my mind.

14. A ship or character that you started liking because of someone else (give them/their works a shout out!)

OOOh hohoho. This one again. :> I have so many! Let's do a weird one that might be outside your radar, Winter. How about Sheo/Teldryn? (: I was rec'd a fic by Muldezgron (thanks @thana-topsy!) and now this phenomenal author and I are the only two in that cursed tag and I'm still beside myself. Still absolutely floored. This particular fic is a masterpiece lol. And we were cursed by a hellship prompt, the same one, in fact, from Topsy (who is the author who changed my mind on more than half of my list of answers for this question lol).

From Muld's fic Ressentiment:

Teldryn should have been afraid. He would have been, if not for a seed of desperation in the ferocity—a poisoned man trying to coax the last drop from an empty antidote bottle. Sheogorath eventually drew back, breaking the line of saliva between their mouths with a wipe of his hand. His lids were half-closed, eyes scanning Teldryn up and down, though Teldryn had no idea what he was looking for. Whatever it was, he hadn’t found it; if anything, he looked even more tired than he had before. “It’s just not the same.” His tone was flat and emotionless, pitching low without deviation. If Teldryn hadn’t been looking directly at him, he might have doubted it came from the same source. “Sorry for wasting your time. We won’t meet again.”

No one needs to read this, I just need it to be out there. 

I never understood horror flicks. Watching people be mean to each other made no sense to me. And I had all these coping mechanisms for living in terrible situations, but the protagonists in the show never used any of them. I couldn’t relate. 

The horror that I can’t look away from is reading all the wikipedia articles about the various atrocities that happened 1935-1946. The systemic awful that humans did to each other. The awful that is a part of all of our psyche, and if the right systems are in place we would all partake, either as perpetrators or martyrs. 

The Holocaust is a giant nightmare factory. 

The system that created the holocaust included the SS, of course. Young German engineers looking to prove themselves coming up with new ways to kill en masse given the new industrialization of the country. It also included death squads, police forces, and “volunteers” - Soviet POWs who had the “option” of assisting in the genocide to avoid starving to death in the camps. 

I had grown up with stories about the German death camps, and horror stories about the Soviet gulags. I had no idea about Nanking, Unit 731, or the hellships. TVtropes claims there was meth given to Japanese soldiers with their food rations. I was not able to find this referenced elsewhere, but my library-fu is very weak.  

So, idk, go read your horror flicks if you like, or write your dead dove stories. But the idea of someone targeting one person in particular doesn’t frighten me. One perpetrator can be killed, or outsmarted. It’s the systems, the industrialized death, the normalized horror, those scare me.

DS9 Relaunch: Pros and Cons

FYI: The DS9 relaunch is a series of post-canon novels that form their own canon and tie into TNG/VGR novels. The DS9 relaunch is better established than any other “relaunch” series. For a year the DS9 relaunch was put on hold for crossover novels called “Typhon Pact,” so for our purposes, the First Half of the Relaunch was before Typhon Pact, the Second Half was after Typhon Pact.

Pros:

Ro Laren is introduced early on and only grows in importance as the series progresses.

Andrew Robinson (the actor who plays Garak) wrote A Stitch in Time, a fantastic Garak backstory novel.

David Mack and Una McCormack write high quality prose.

No spoilers but Quark gets a great relationship.

Bajoran religion is fleshed out. Specifically, there is a large debate between people who view the prophets as Gods and an alternative sect that views them as benificent aliens.

Garak gets a boyfriend (but it’s not explicitly stated, so boo)

Kira’s plotlines in the first half of the relaunch were frickin’ amazing. They really get Kira.

The first half of the relaunch introduced fantastic new characters, including a commander from SI who wants to take down S31, his estranged ensign daughter, an andorian science officer, AND A JEM HADAR ELDER WHO IS IMMUNE TO KETRICEL WHITE.

ALL ANDORIANS ARE POLYAMORUS and have four genders

The four gender thing makes mating complicated, leading to the Andorian gene crisis, a plotline that goes on for ten years. That level of worldbuilding is fab.

It gets weird at the end but Illiana Ghemor gets a big role

Ezri becomes a captain

S31 is fully explored.

Bashir gets his own novels. The genetic enhancement plotline is actually used to almost its full potential.

Background diversity (lesbian ensigns, etc.) 

Lots of fanservice nods.

A trilogy of books that focus on other alien cultures (Cardassia, Ferenginar, Trill, etc.)

Odo is great? He’s sarcastic and his return from the Dominion makes sense. Also, there’s no special effect budget limitations on his shapeshifting.

Quark is never leaving.

Ezri/Bashir break up (eventually) but idk their whole relationship is surprisingly well done and realistic with room to interpret it as something genuinely sweet and as a disaster mistake from hell.

Cons:

Even though the plot is good, the prose in the first two books is pretty weak. 

David R. George III ruins everything he touches. (Extraneous detail, boring plots, shallow characterization. It’s not all awful but it’s mostly awful). He’s been writing most of the relaunch books for the past couple of years.

Lots of books that should be DS9 books (like S31 Control, which features Julian Bashir, Sarina Douglas, and Elim Garak) are marked as TNG books so you have to know what you’re looking for.

Sarina Douglas/Julian Bashir hellship is canon.

Kira fucks off live in a past reality for two years for no fucking reason because David R. George III ruins everything he touches. She also becomes a vedek, which, ugh.

Sisko? Benjamin Sisko? Who’s he? the protagonist? what a subjective term.

Seriously very little Sisko content I hate it. 

Sisko returns from the wormhole and then leaves Kasidy to angst about being a former Emissary, even though that goes against Avery Brook’s explicit wishes for the series ending.

Una McCormack’s post-canon Cardassia is just...weird? It’s modeled after post nazi-Germany, which isn’t quite right.

All those great new characters introduced in the first half of the relaunch? They go away for the second half and newer characters are shoddily introduced.

By the late second half hardly anyone from DS9 is on DS9. The O’Brien’s come back and inexplicably David R. George will not touch them???

The plotlines in DR George’s novels make no fecking sense? TRY READING A PLOT SUMMARY OF ONE ON WIKIPEDIA I FUCKING DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU ONE CHARACTER DIES IN A TIME LOOP AND THEN TRANSCENDS TO EXIST AS THE SHAPESHIFTING SPECIES THAT ARE THE FOUNDERS GODS FOR FUCK’S SAKES WHY

i miss the days where k.ylux was just 90% shitposting and bad crack that gives you a laugh but was never serious and shit,, none of the fetishizing, woobifying and all that gross shit that its all about now (not saying it wasn’t there before but, it wasnt as prevalent as it is now) it also doesn’t help that the stans are reaching r,eylos levels of defensiveness when ever someone says something about the bad shit in their fandom. idk thats just my analysis tho, i haven’t touched the k.ylux fandom since like.,., idk fuckin early 2016 when i initially left the TFA fandom¯\_(ツ)_/¯
