Lukadrien: Observant
Summary: luka was an observant person, and his latest favourite subject? Adrien Agreste.
Tw: mentions of emotional abuse and death
Luka was observant.
It came with the quiet lifestyle he enjoyed, and his strong focus on music fostered the trait too.
He observed melodies and notes, and sometimes he observed people.
Lately his focus had fell on the class model.
He wasn't entirely sure at first where his pull to the Agreste boy had come from.
Of course they were friends, Adrien was friends with everyone after all, but something about his sweet as sugar exterior made Luka think.
He knew Adriens life was far from perfect like people made it out to be. Marinette had always closed up a bit whenever Luka had asked her about it, and a sad expression usually took over her face.
Adrien had disclosed his mothers death to him one night at a party on the boat, when he had finally convinced the blonde to take his first sip of alcohol.
His fathers protectiveness seemed to weigh on him too, and he often got the vibe that he was lonely.
But still, he showed up every day with encouraging words and a big smile.
For a little while in his observation, Luka almost gave up.
Adriens mask never seemed to slip, and he found himself questioning whether his original concerns were justified.
Maybe Adrien was just a happy person despite the crappy card he was dealt.
Then he began noticing things.
The way his smile would get a little more strained whenever modelling was mentioned.
The way he was often late to class with no viable explanation.
Then, he noticed what he began to call the teens down days.
Ones where he would show up in a hoodie rather than a perfected outfit, with his hair a little messy.
He noticed on those days Alya and Marinette seemed to keep their distance, sending him occasional looks of concern when he wasn't looking.
Adrien would spend most the day with his head on his desk, and the only person he would say a word to was Nino, and even that seemed scarce.
Interestingly enough, even Chloe usually wouldn't bother him like usual.
A month or so into him picking up on it, Adrien seemed to to have multiple bad days in a row.
Their history teacher dismissed them and Adrien upped and left immediately, hood pulled over his face as he fled.
Marinette and Alya looked to Nino, and the boy just sighed as he collected his friends things and put them into his own bag.
Alya whispered something which Luka couldn't make out, but he did hear the tail end of Ninos response.
"-no use. Nothings cheering him up and he's barely speaking. It's worse than usual, and I'm not sure what they're fighting about but I hope it's sorted soon. I hate seeing him like this" Luka frowned at the seriousness in the boys voice, and he was filled with concern for the blonde.
He quickly shoved his stuff away and raced out, catching a glimpse of Adrien heading into the bathrooms.
He rushed down the steps and followed after him.
When he pushed the door open Adrien was leaning over the sinks, splashing water over his face and... was he crying?
"For the billionth time Nino, I'm fine I just need to be a- oh. H- hi Luka" Adrien blinked when he saw him, his cheeks heating in embarrassment as he wiped at his eyes.
It seemed to be pointless, like the floodgates had opened and Adrien couldn't manage to close them again.
He seemed to realise this just as Luka did, because he cursed himself and leaned against the sink with his face buried in his hands, sobbing miserably into the fabric of his hoodie sleeves.
"I-I s-should g-go. I'm s-sorry L-Luka" he said, the words punctuated with harsh sobs as he tried to leave.
Luka wasn't making it that easy.
He quickly engulfed the model in his arms, holding him tight to his chest as he let his fingers stroke up Adriens back, strumming a melody he had always associated with the boy.
Adrien didn't fight it at all. In fact, he clung to Luka's shirt as he cried, body shaking with the force of it as he tried to bury himself in his chest.
Almost as if he believed if he hid there, the pain would go away.
Slowly but surely he began to calm down. Or run out of tears, Luka wasn't certain, but he continued to hold him regardless.
"It's ok, Adrien. Whatever your dad said-" the blonde pulled back slightly, eyes red rimmed from his crying as he blinked up at him.
"H-how did y-you..."
"I'm good at putting 2 and 2 together" he admitted and Adrien nodded, sniffling.
He seemed to realise their position and took a few steps back, his face heating with embarrassment again.
"S-sorry about that. I should go now" Luka just nodded, not wanting to push him any further and risk him closing off completely.
"Don't apologise. I'm here for you whenever you need it" Luka promised and the blonde paused, sending him a shy smile.
"T-thank you, Luka."
It was far from the last time Adrien sobbed into his arms, but with Luka's prescence in his life those off days became a little less frequent.
