For your OCs that celebrate Christmas, what kind of Christmas tree would they have? The type and style and decorations?
Hm okay, I can't say I'm the most festive person out there but I do love a good decorated Christmas tree. Thank you for the ask!!!
Okay, first off: Ophelia is Jewish, and I know there was a Star Wars Christmas special but I can't see Indigo celebrating Christmas. So they don't get a tree lol
Rae would have a pretty typical Christmas tree I think, but a lot of the ornaments would be homemade and from her childhood rather than storebought. And she of course picks out some ornaments for Warren to "catch him up" since he doesn't have much from his childhood.
Robin would help set up the Christmas decorations in the whole X-Mansion, including the tree itself. She'd make sure every student that wanted to participate had something to represent them. And if a student didn't have an ornament to add (either because they hadn't celebrated the holiday before or because they don't have contact with their childhood home), she'd help them pick one out at a holiday store and buy it for them.
Quinn never really celebrated Christmas in the old parkour crew (too busy, too poor, no one home to stay and decorate), but usually the Ghosts try to throw something together if they can. It's a fake tree, since they live in the desert, and admittedly it's a little worse-for-wear since the decorating supplies are minimal (a lot of scrapped-together ornaments or cheap gimmicky ones), but it's the heart that counts.
Jasper would definitely help decorate a joke tree in the ER (have you seen the ones made out of blown-up nitrile gloves? something like that). At home, they're a bit too poor to buy a full tree, but I think they'd come home one day and find that Kyle's put up lights on the wall in the shape of a tree (like you can see on the internet sometimes). And at least the light-tree is better with all their pets lol
Madison, as you've seen from Smoke and Mirrors, struggles with grief around Christmastime. Putting up decorations are some of the hardest parts for her, so it's a little sporadic. Sometimes she can only get a third of it done before she has to stop and step back (or let Alex take over for a bit), so the tree might be only partially decorated for another week or so until she's ready to work on it again. In the end, it all does get decorated and ready by Christmas, but she can never guarantee the state of it before then. As for decorations, they're all pretty new since neither she nor Alex has a ton of contact with their families, but they have sentimental value since most were bought together or were gifts from their friends at the X-Mansion
Prometheus ends up surrounded by holiday festivities when it gets to winter (I mean, think about the amount of times you dreamed about Christmastime when you were little), so they get an honorable mention. And the tradition of Christmas trees started in the 16th century, so they wouldn't have a tree, but I think they'd come home one night to find that Mary Hospitality has decided to put up some holiday decorations of her own :)
Katherine definitely loved to help decorate the tree with her mother when she was a kid, and I feel like she, Jace, and Emily would put up decorations together and have their own holiday celebrations. And while I won't spoil the end of her story, she definitely helps decorate the museum around Christmastime for many years to come
Kestrel definitely puts up a Christmas tree with the others at Fablehaven, but the decorations are a bit unique - ornaments and decorative pieces from their travels, random trinkets built by the brownies and satyrs, even magical baubles courtesy of the fairies. Really, all of Fablehaven loves to get involved, though most of them don't understand the human convention of Christmas celebrations. And at first, Kestrel doesn't quite either, but they get the hang of it pretty quick (and actually really enjoy the holidays because of how it brings the family together)
thank you again for the ask!!

Writing jam: Wen Ruohan is a bird continuation XD
lol, you got it.
Part One Part Two
----------
"Oh. This can't be good."
Lan Qiren looked up from the scrolls he'd been studying to find a suddenly very pale-looking Nie Haoran frowning at the pages of a book that was so close to falling apart that it made his trained archivist sensibilities twitch. "What did you find?"
Careful to keep any pages from coming loose, Nie Haoran turned the book around for him to see. "Doesn't this look quite a bit like Han-er?"
The bird in the illustration was in fact nearly identical to the shape that the Wen sect leader was currently trapped in, but the notes underneath weren't very-
Lan Qiren suddenly felt faint as he saw the words that had made his friend turn white.
They'd left a nine-year-old tending a bird that could breathe magical fire.
A bird that could breathe magical fire and had Wen Ruohan's infamously capricious temper.
Abandoning their research, the two men very quickly made their way back across the palace compound to the sect leader's rooms, desperately hoping they weren't going to find Nie Huaisang terrified and injured or worse-
Nie Haoran stopped short after yanking the door open, causing Lan Qiren to smack into the much larger man's back. Choking back an undignified squawk, Lan Qiren leaned around him and found that dozens of candles had been set up in the middle of the room, glowing in a rainbow of different flame colors.
And in the middle of the little forest of lights sat Nie Huaisang with Wen Ruohan settled in his lap and a candle in his hands, watching in awe as the bird blew a deep violet flame onto the wick, both of them so fascinated by whatever little experiment they were conducting that neither had noticed the opening of the door.
Nie Haoran made a little wheeze and then clamped a hand over his mouth, shoulders shaking from keeping the laughter from escaping.
Lan Qiren bit his tongue hard when the mix of relief and stunned surprise threatened to make him similarly lose his composure.
Getting cursed into the shape of a bird was strange enough, but if anyone had ever told him he would find the great and terrifying Undying Sun magically lighting candles to amuse a child, he would have banned them from ever touching a drop of wine again.
"A-die, look!" Nie Huaisang said as he held up the candle, having finally become aware of their presence.
"I see that!" Nie Haoran said, voice still a little choked from struggling not to laugh. "You two have been busy. Do those do anything interesting?"
"Well, this blue one over here froze my ink stone and made it shatter, and this one-"
As Nie Huaisang rattled off colors and their effects, Lan Qiren kept watching the bird in his lap, marveling at how comfortable Wen Ruohan seemed, not minding in the slightest whenever the boy would jostle him a little in the process of reaching for another candle. At the absolute worst, he was clearly smug about having impressed Nie Huaisang with this new magical ability, but even that was a much more gentle show of power and arrogance than he had ever demonstrated as a human.
Hm.
Perhaps it wasn't actually a bad thing that their investigation into this curse was taking longer than anticipated.
Perhaps it would even be beneficial.
