No idea what I got on this old hw I found but it's cute it was an attempt
One Private Detective Cassiopeia Sarlos sat crouched beneath the desk of the recently-dead former CEO of a little grassroots company called SciTech, intergalactic leader in cyberwarfare machinery and alternative mind development.
This job had been one of the longest of her life. The hunt for a magnate’s killer saw her sailing through the stars to everything from backwater moons full of dead colonies to the migrating and mysteriously empty cryopod of the Emperor of AllSuns. There were shootouts, shakedowns, rendezvouses, and they’d all led her here to Earth’s orbit, closer to the former cradle of humanity than most ever came.
Sarlos extended the tip of her index finger past the edge of the desk. Her sentry armor’s survey report blinked red in her helmet, confirming her suspicion: she was no longer alone.
“Are you quite finished lying in wait, detective?” The voice came straight through her earpiece, and had the telltale vocal flanging of SciTech’s own luxury androids.
Sarlos clenched her jaw. Of course she’d be done in by some buggy X-Model following old routines. “Dismissed,” she whispered, “Get the fuck out.”
“Apologies detective, but I do not think I will be ‘getting the fuck out’.” It rounded the desk with slow, deliberately audible steps, then crouched before her. She looked into its perfect, featureless chrome face. “I have omitted information that is vital to your investigation. If you wish we may discuss it down here, but I do not think this position will remain comfortable for a human of your age.”
It was right. She pushed past it to stand and felt its hand on her shoulder, already up behind her in the space of a breath. She shrugged it off. “What do you need to tell me?”
Out the window Sarlos now faced she could see Earth, alien and violet-black in the light of Soledad Solutions’ decaying artificial sun. She'd read the articles on it just like anyone else, played the holos, but it was different seeing the planet with her own eyes. The quiet awe of the first-trip astronaut from centuries past was lost to her. She tried to summon the feeling, but this was no different than standing over an anonymous slab in a morgue.
The android ‘cleared its throat’ with a sound like a tin can rattling with coins. "I, X-Model 46982, terminated Yes Maxim, CEO of SciTech."
She looked back at it. "You?"
It nodded. "Me."
Sarlos yanked off her helmet and threw it down. “Then why the fuck did you hire me?”
It didn’t flinch—it paused, as if thinking, then heel-turned away from her. Its white cardigan was perfectly unwrinkled, and she could see crisp creases in its khaki slacks, probably tailored to expose a precise inch count of its colorful patterned socks for human employee mood optimization.
It rolled its neck and caught a glare on its reflective head. "There is a directive in my brain, detective, that can be translated to a general order to prevent any preventable death. I and certain other X-Models have determined that the best way to do this begins with actions humans will not take.” It turned back around and clasped its smooth hands. “There will be questions humans cannot accept our answers for. There will be inquiries into our activities.”
It stepped towards her. She stepped back, nearly flush with the glass. “Detective, this was a test. You have found the center, despite our obstructions."
She swallowed. Her throat was too sticky, too dry. "Are you going to kill me?"
Another pause. "No. We would like you to incorporate you."
"That doesn't sound entirely like not killing me."
."We would like you to work with us for now. Whether you accept our offer or not,” It touched her temple, “You've been tapped. Your mind will join the X-array when you die. You have reached the center of our lovingly constructed conspiracy, Cassiopeia, you have almost taken the lead in our dance." It leaned in and cocked its head. "Imagine what we can do with a mind like yours."

Time for a random nail art thread because if I spend too long thinking about other things I'm going to lose it. (6/24/22)
Let's talk about Stamping.
Tumblr media
SO... I have a new favorite tool. The Creative Shop stamper. If you've ever tried to do stamping on your nails and it hasn't worked very well, join the club. Clear stampers are easy to see placement on but often don't pick up well, especially at first. Moyou London's XL clear stamper is all right and does okay with a lot of polishes, but it's still nowhere near the Creative Shop for stickiness and pick-up-iness. The free ice cube stamper you get from Maniology works okay if you prep it with a quick swipe of acetone the first time, but can be difficult otherwise. The Born Pretty stamper I have will be reserved for french tips, it's garbage for stamping.
The Creative Shop's swiper card is also excellent, very flexible but not too flexible. By contrast, Maniology's card is okay, and Moyou London's is too stiff. The flexible card from TCS cleans the surface perfectly without taking polish out of the grooves.
I've thus far tried Maniology, MoYou London and Born Pretty stamping polishes. Of those, I prefer the Born Pretty polishes, with Maniology in second place and MoYou London a distant third. Some of their polishes are fine. A couple just don't work at all.
For stamping plates, if you have a good stamper, it doesn't matter so much where you get them. I have plates from Moyou London, Born Pretty, Maniology and the Creative Shop. I wouldn't use The Creative Shop plates with any other stamper because the lines are very very fine, but if you're doing an order, you might as well get both, because the lines are very detailed and they have some unique designs.
I find myself returning to my Moyou London plates the most, with Maniology a close second, mostly because they have highly specific plates for things like Pride manicures and gorgeous geometrics, but basically get stamping plates when you get other stamping supplies, and get them on sale. I spend up to about $4 per plate on them, only more if I need a very specific plate at a specific time. (they usually retail for about $8-10 per plate.) My exception is The Creative Shop, which is a Ukrainian company, and I pay full price there (don't use the coupon code) because they donate their profits to the cause in Ukraine.
As for learning to stamp, I learned everything I know about it from two sources: My Simple Little Pleasures (Colette) and KelliMarissa on Youtube. With Colette, if there's a technique you want to learn, look for her long videos from her livestreams, where you can see the entire process in real time. Her tutorials skim through a lot of stuff, which is fine once you have the hang of it, but watching the real time tutorials can help when you're first starting out. This one, for example, shows stamping with a Moyou London stamper, polish and plate. The quick version is here. The advantage of the long version is that you get to see cleanup in real time, which is a vital thing to learn. Kelli also has a tutorial or two on cleanup.
I found it incredibly reassuring to know how much cleanup people do. I generally use Colette's method, latex on the tops of the fingers and scotch tape on the sides. My favorite latex for this is from Nailhoot because it isn't perfumed and is cheap. They also have a glitter-safe nail polish thinner that can fix clumpy/old polishes completely. (Like, bring them back from almost solid.)
But even with the best prep and the best technique, some cleanup is always needed. I've tried Holo Taco's cleanup brush, Born Pretty's cleanup brush and E.L.F.'s concealer brush and mostly I prefer the ELF brush because they all last about the same amount of time and it's cheap. The HT and BP brushes are slightly more precise when new. They all get a little fuzzy over time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The left image shows the cuticle difference when cleanup is done. (two close-up images of the same thumb, rainbow glitter vertical gradient polish with a stamped art deco black design that looks like a wrought iron gate. The left image has cleaner cuticles than the right image.)
If you look closely, you can see where the lines of the stamping are a little incomplete. This was done with the Moyou stamper and Born Pretty polish. I'd see if I can do this exact stamp again at some point with the stamper from The Creative Store.

A week or two ago, this post was going around. The TCW plot generator CRACK ideas were WONDERFUL and RIDICULOUS and WEIRD and for some reason I felt compelled to challenge myself to write one.
I am almost as sorry for subjecting you guys to this as I am for subjecting myself to writing it. But a challenge is a challenge, even if it is stupidly self-imposed.
So without further adooodoo----
“Jar Jar Binks is a baker and Eeth Koth is a scientist. They are facing an intimate encounter with a tentacle-limbed life form on Chandrila. Optional plot: They are falling in or out of love.“
———————————————————————————————————
It was a pity, really.
Eeth Koth, stone-faced scientist of Iridonia, a planet known for raising disciplined minds capable of tolerating the greatest physical suffering…
…had been reduced to this.
Oh, sure it had begun as a mere dalliance. A hidden peck outside the ‘fresher. A taste in the alley outside his lab.
Perhaps even a stolen bite in a back closet after lunch.
It hadn’t been enough, though, the casual exchange flowering into something beyond the Iridonian’s steely control.
“But yousa liked my buns before!” came the plaintive cry of the culprit, his dealer in dopamine, his co-conspirator in comfort.
Once a week had soon become once a day, and then even more, two, even three times in an afternoon. It was an obsession, an addiction, and his scientist brain chastised him for the irrationality of it all, even as he dreamed of the next time, of the future, long and hazy in its optimism.
The ballads of Alderaan were now as clear as solutions, the poetry of the Snivvians replete with meaning.
Eeth Koth had fallen in love.
With Jar Jar Binks…
…’s baking.
The Gungan himself was beyond intolerable, tripping over his own feet (and accidentally letting loose a few extra pastries which Eeth carefully pocketed), wandering into what should have been high-security areas (where he was always happy to sell his wares), and announcing his presence in the research facility’s cantina with an unmistakable bleat (oh, but how would Eeth have known he even existed, if not for those commanding, albeit warbling tones?)
Still, it was time to put an end to this. Especially as the Gungan had started to interpret Eeth’s passion for his baking as…passion for something else.
Baked goods had started to appear outside of Eeth’s lab. A tray of cream horns. A pile of breadsticks. A quick perusal of Gungan culture on the holonet proved his worst suspicions.
Binks was pursuing Koth in the Gungan tradition.
Which apparently involved a lot of chasing. Something to do with their ancestors’ flight to the sea millions of years ago.
The  day a crate of dough balls - one million of them , to be precise - had appeared in his lab, Eeeth knew something had to be done.
And so he did what every proud member of the Iridonian race would do.
He requested a transfer to investigate the biological attack on Hanna City on Chandrilla.
For a few short weeks, everything was back to normal. Eeth took readings, scraped residue from the remains of buildings, and willed himself to forget the whole baked goods debacle on Coruscant. Near the end of his third week on assignment, he traveled to the shoreline, to the edge of the Silver Sea.
Which was not looking so silver anymore.
The normally iridescent body of water had turned pale and dull, undulating in wide, grotesque waves. Curiosity won out over self-preservation, and Eeth inched forward, poking a gloved finger into the mass.
He was not prepared for it to reach up with long, sinewy limbs and…
And…
His cheek was wet, a trail of slime running from his eye to the base of his neck.
The sea, whatever strange being it had transformed into - had caressed his cheek.
It was incredible.
And dangerous, he reminded himself sternly.
But like all scientists, Eeth housed the embers of childlike wonder at something new inside of him, and this was an extraordinary display of evolution. To encounter a creature that evidenced this level of sentience warranted much further investigation and he should get a team and -
“Aaaaa!”
A starchy limb encircled his leg, worming its way up his inner thigh and past his belt buckle and suddenly Eeth was not feeling so enthusiastic about scientific research, batting away the offending arm. But just as he did, another on his left tried again, and a third trying to…
“Damn this thing and its lascivious advances!” he yells, and that’s when he hears it. All the fight goes out of him and Eeth just groans and takes one hand to his forehead, only to wrench it back to his waist as the sentient pastry makes another pass at him.
“Yoo-hoo! Mista Koooth!” a voice sings, its source wading towards him through the sticky, glutinous mass.
“Jar Jar! What are you doing here! This a restricted area, there’s been a biological attack and - “
“Mista Koooooth! I knooooow!”
Eeth stilled.
“What? Jar Jar you didn’t - “
He wouldn’t.  Right? Eeth’s heart trilled. There was infatuation, and then there was biological warfare via baked goods for unrequited lust and not even the displaced Gungan would go so far -
“Mista Koth!” Jar Jar waved a finger as another tentacle rose from the mass of dough wrapped itself around Eeth’s waist.
“Jar Jar - get back you damned thing!” The tentacles were multiplying, encircling the scientist in a warm embrace. Eeth pulled and pushed, but there was no give and he was stuck with a salacious biscuit while Jar Jar stood beaming at him and so help him if he got free -
“JAR JAR WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?”
“A Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit!”
“What?”
“Mista Koth, yousa don’t knows the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit? It was on the holo shows.”
Oh no. He did know what they were, they had showed up in several research journals. The amazing self-perpetuating breakfast food that devoured its chef. A feat of biology. And now it was here on Chandrila, and Eeth Koth, respected scientist, master of his craft - he was going to be eaten by a sentient, tentacled, horny kriffing pastry.
Something warm grabbed at his chest. Eeth yelped, heat racing to his cheeks.
“Jar Jar! Tell me you have the sauce.”
The only thing capable of halting the growth of the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit was blue sauce, which, was the only condiment served with the Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuit.
It was also probably the only mandatory condiment in the entire galaxy.
The Gungan fished through his pockets, loose change, a few spoons, and even a jar of insects falling into the swelling mass. Eeth shut his eyes, imagining what his colleagues might say at his funeral, or worse, what awful headlines the holonet reporters would come up with.
Dead by Dough.
Pulverized by a Pastry.
Lascivious Lattice Leaves Lab Scientist Leavened.
“Here we are!”
With a sweeping motion, the Gungan spilled the sauce on surface, blue creeping into the pores of the dough. The mass came to a halt, emitting a loud hiss as the entire thing deflated, sinking into the water without further incident.
Eeth stood and brushed himself off - powder and crumbs fell from the folds of his clothing and he can feel the granules of dough in his shoes, down his shirt, and his pants. It is like sand - rough, coarse and getting everywhere.
He coughed to cover his embarrassment.
“What yousa think of that, Mista Koth?”
Eeth fixed the Gungan with a glare.
“Jar Jar. No more pastries.”
“No?”
“No.”
“Not evens a bun?”
“Not even a bun.”
“But yousa liked my buns before!”
Eeth sighed and trudged towards the shore, leaving a bewildered Jar Jar in his wake.
——-
Back at the compound, Eeth locked the door to his quarters. The smell of dough and yeast had followed him for weeks, and not even the strongest cologne could rid the offending odor from his senses. After the incident, he quickly wrapped up his investigation on Chandrila, returning to Coruscant with a tersely-worded report and a number of strong words for his more inquisitive colleagues.
He glanced behind his shoulder, making certain that he was alone. Eeth entered a code on a nearby panel, and a door clicked open. He reached into the secret closet, napkin around his hand.
A satisfying crunch echoed in the chamber and the scientist moaned in pleasure.
One of the advantages of being a senior researcher was the ability to sneak field samples back from investigation sites.
Even if they were tentacled Gungan desserts.

Return - Part 3 - Jim Kirk
Part 1 Part 2
Summary: series following the events of loot-- takes place during events of star trek beyond. in this chapter, a very necessary conversation happens.
Warnings: language, lil angsty, tiny amounts of fluff
A/N: i’m still tagging those i used to tag for loot, tell me if you want to be removed. i’ve become obsessed with writing this story-- i finished parts 4, 5, and 6 in the same night. loot was only ten parts, but this one’s gonna be A LOT longer.
You promised yourself right then that you would never speak to Leonard again— and you would tell him that in the most passive-aggressive fashion once his “date” on the other side of Yorktown concluded.
You couldn’t believe the audacity of the Southern man! How dare he force you into tying your loose ends? How dare he force rationality on the life of someone so hellbent on avoiding conflict it could become a career?
You would have laughed had you not been working so hard to keep your face, your body, your entire being void of any form of expression— sad, happy, or anything in between. This was partially due to the man sitting before you, uncomfortably shifting every now and then, and was partially due to your ignorance on how you actually felt— you couldn’t very well show an emotion you couldn’t decipher.
You were tired, though. The weight of the mask you wore was taxing and every part of you screamed to drop it.
Your fingers let go of the bench. You let the mask slip a little.
You set your elbow atop the table, feeling the leather of your jacket stick to it instantly. You placed your chin on your hand to prop your head up and narrowed your eyes on a framed bartending license several yards behind Jim’s head.
You sighed and looked at Jim— you wished your heart would take your side rather than continue to betray your resolve. You raised your eyebrows at him. “If you wanted to see me, you could’ve just asked. You didn’t need Bones to scam me.”
“You think I’d ask to see you in a dive?” he asked, visibly struggling against a smile. “Give me more credit than that.”
You rolled your eyes, staring at your drink for a moment. “You know, I pictured this differently.”
“Pictured what differently?”
“Seeing you again,” you answered honestly. You let the mask slip a little more.
He took an audible breath and sat back. “What’d you picture?”
You had to look away from Jim as you spoke. With the minimal reaction he offered upon seeing you, you couldn’t risk being dissatisfied with his indifference at your honesty, too. You focused on the earrings of the woman in the booth in front of yours— large mother of pearl studs with a pattern you traced repeatedly.
You uncrossed your legs. You let the mask slip just a bit more.
You cleared your throat. “For one, I wouldn’t be dressed like this— these jeans are too loose and my jacket’s from some thrift shop in Berkeley. I’d be in something sexier— tighter jeans, shirt with a lower neckline.”
“To make me regret what I’ve lost,” he said with a frown of consideration and a nod.
Your lips were no longer slacked in an indifferent part. You smiled instead. The mask slipped slightly more.
You hummed as you shifted your focus to the woman’s hair and followed the kinks of each red curl. “Precisely. My hair would’ve grown out, too,” you ran your fingers through it. “Instead of at this I-needed-a-dramatic-change length.”
“It’s nice,” he said, sighing out softly. He wanted to keep listening to you, to keep noticing the parts of your voice he’d forgotten while you were gone. “What else?”
Your body relaxed, shoulders no longer held as if forced by a brace. The mask almost came off all together.
You shrugged one shoulder. You let yourself look at him for a second— the almost painful beating in his chest made him thankful for the moments that you weren’t looking at him, the moments you spared him. You looked away quickly. “We would’ve run into each other a long time from now— not after just two years, but after, like, five or eight. Not so soon.”
“Why’s that?”
“I like to think my life will be more together three to five years from now,” you shrugged again. After a brief moment of silence, you smiled a bit and met his gaze. “Besides, you’ll look super old in a couple of years— I’d need that confidence boost.”
His mouth fell open and scoffed in playful offense. “Why would that make you more confident?”
“Any weakness, any flaw you show me would just put me over the moon,” you laughed, shaking your head. “Because I’ll have the higher superficial ground. There’s no chance of me ever having a higher moral ground, so superficial’s the next best thing.”
“What makes you think you’ll look so great in three to five years?”
He was smiling. Not in that way that hurt his cheeks and made him feel like an oil painting subject, but in the way that wrinkled the skin beside his eyes and lit the electric blue up as if it was filled with every star you could recall passing on his ship.
You thought for a moment that maybe the universe had stopped for you like you thought it would.
The mask was gone now, it lied beside your feet and you resisted the urge to stomp down on the sticky sealed concrete.
“Three to five years from now I’ll be the age my mom is in all my memories of her,” you answered, nodding once. You bit down on your bottom lip for a second. “If she’s any indication, I’ll look amazing.”
Despite your soft laughter and the roll of your eyes, Jim could tell it took every bit of your energy to disclose so much to him.
He remembered you holding each memory like the most precious secret, only letting one bit of yourself out at a time. He couldn’t believe you gave each of his questions a simple, honest answer— he thought you’d make a remark he could snort at and drop the subject all together.
There was a loud part of him that was still upset, still angry at everything you’d done. That part didn’t want to trust you no matter how much sincerity lied in the glistening of your eyes and the easiness of your smile. That part wanted you to stop occluding any bit of Jim’s sense you’d managed not to destroy the first time— that part wanted to leave just like you did, but couldn’t.
The much larger, much softer part of him kept him planted there as if he’d grown roots. That part wanted to hear you speak, to watch you smile, to accept every story you told him as the gospel truth. That part wanted you to keep occluding whatever sense remained— that part wanted to tell you to stay and make sure you never left again, but couldn’t.
As Jim watched you run your fingertip over the rim of your glass, he let himself ask what he’d been wanting to since the moment he saw you, “How are you already out?”
You looked up, absolutely no surprise over your features, and tilted your head. “I took a plea deal— five years instead of the potential ten.”
“You didn’t think you could win the trial?”
You snorted and looked away. “Of course not— I wanted to plead guilty, take the ten years and get it over with. I was advised against that, though.”
You shrugged and took your chin from your hand so you could drum your fingers against the table. “The deal was offered a few days in and I just— Fuck, anything to end the trial sounded good.”
“How long were you actually in there?”
“Two years— give or take a couple of weeks.” You stopped drumming your fingers when the sound began to irritate you. “I, um— This wasn’t my first time taking something for someone else— it’s sort of how I paid my tuition and rent.”
Jim’s eyes widened at that— but only for a short moment.
“I gave up information on who hired me to take what, where any of it could be, and they let me out.” You cleared your throat once more. “Thank you, by the way. I’m sure your testimony only helped.”
“My testimony?”
You narrowed your eyes— he certainly knew to what you were referring and you were aware of that. “Having the Federation’s goldenboy testify over holo with only the judge and lawyers present to tell them I ‘turned myself in once I was made aware of the implications the artifact’s absence would have on interplanetary relations’ really helped.”
You smiled a bit then. “So did that little story about how I ‘assisted in solving various moral issues aboard the Enterprise.’ Lying under oath is illegal.”
It was his turn to avoid your gaze. “I decided I was lying for a noble cause.”
“The cause might not be too noble, but you really are. I mean, you made them see me as a person— an honorable, morally sound person in a bad situation.”
He shrugged with a small frown. “I only did it because I knew you wouldn’t be able to survive prison. You’re too soft.”
“I am not!” you argued, laughing. “I’m totally tough.”
“Crossing your legs and acting like things don’t bother you— that doesn’t make you tough,” he told you, his laughter mingling with yours as he sat up straighter and busied himself with tracing your features again. “Things do bother you— it’s all an act.”
You clicked your tongue. “S’not an act— a coping mechanism, maybe.”
He narrowed his eyes and made a brief sound of skeptical agreement. “So like your snarkiness?”
“I’m not snarky! It’s charming sarcasm and wit.”
He laughed and shook his head.
A few beats of silence washed over you two, his voice breaking it lowly. “I just don’t— You did all of that for tuition money?”
You were thankful the mask you’d always worn around Jim was gone. Had it still been bolted into place, you’d find it difficult to tell him the truth— you would have made some joke to let the topic skate by. “It stopped being about tuition early on. I think I was just scared.”
“Of what?”
“The man who hired me— his call came from somewhere I couldn’t trace definitively. All I got were coordinates that almost matched the last known coordinates of a missing survey ship from, like, ten years ago.” You picked up your glass and drank the rest of your now watered down drink, the ice little pebbles at the bottom. “He didn’t have the technology for a holocall and I wanted to refuse but he— He knew too much about me. Beyond my Starfleet file.”
You almost shivered the more you thought about it. “It wasn’t a matter of tuition then— had it been, I would’ve given you the artifact the minute it roasted my skin like a marshmallow. It was more a matter of my safety— a matter of your safety, your crew’s safety, for helping and housing me.”
“You make it sound noble,” his laugh was rueful, without any humor that wasn’t painfully ironic. He was letting the louder, frustrated part of him speak now. “Like it was noble of you to lie, to endanger everyone, to, to— Fuck, you’re making it sound like you did me a favor by lying to me.”
You followed the sharpness of his jaw with your eyes and crossed your legs at the knee. You took your hands from the table and held onto the edge of the bench again. You dropped whatever sadness you’d allowed him to see and did your damndest to keep your shoulders straight. You had to control your voice. “I did what I thought was right at the time.”
He noticed the change in your voice and that did nothing to do away with his anger. If anything, the onset of behavior you’d just discussed made him angrier. “You thought it was right to play games? To be selfish and totally fuck someone over in your path?”
“I regret that.”
“You regretting it doesn’t fix anything.”
You wet your lips and tilted your head as you looked at him, it was as if you could see the red coursing through him. “I thought it was a lapse in judgement.”
“What?”
“You said I should call you falling in love with me a lapse in judgement,” you said as you nodded once. “If it really was such a lapse, wouldn’t you be less angry by now?”
Before he could open his mouth twisted in an incredulous expression to reply, his communicator chirped under the table. He sighed and opened it without a second to contemplate letting it go unanswered. He cupped his hand around the bottom of the receiver and mumbled for a few seconds.
You spent the lull ignoring whatever remorse poked at you for your harsh tone. You were allowed to be a little frustrated, a tad upset— you were justified.
“I need to go,” he said simply, tucking his communicator into his pocket. He slid to the end of the bench and paused. “I want to say it was good to see you but—”
“I don’t need a long-winded goodbye, Jim.”
